Some of the best family travel destinations worldwide:

1. Daintree Rainforest, Australia

Recommended by Caz and Craig from YTravelBlog.

One of our favorite destinations for families is the Port Douglas Daintree region in Tropical North Queensland .

Port Douglas has the largest reef system and the oldest rainforest in the world to explore. What more can you ask for? Our girls loved snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, zip-lining over the canopy of the Daintree Rainforest, playing on stunning beaches, searching for wild crocodiles on riverboat cruises, and enjoying delicious exotic ice cream made from the rainforest fruits.

It’s a relaxed and beautiful tropical destination with plenty for all members of the family to love.

TIP: You can also easily visit Daintree as a day trip from Cairns or Port Douglas. You can find the best selection of organized tours here .

Here you can find everything you possibly may want to know about visiting the Daintree Rainforest .

Snorkelling at the Great Barrier Reef

Recommended by Kevin and Christina from Wandering Wagars.

There are few places in the world that offer the opportunity for a family adventure like Iceland .

Where else can you spot Blue Whales from a schooner, swim in ice-cold glacier water while continents tear themselves apart around you, and feel the roar of Europe’s largest waterfall, all within a few hours drive of each other. If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite, Iceland is one of the safest countries in the world. You can even lookup the Prime Minister in the phone book.

Icelandic people understand the unique needs of children and families. It’s rare to find a restaurant that doesn’t have an area set aside for children to play.

Furthermore, Iceland is really easy to visit on your own. In summer, you can drive the entire Ring Road , or just focus on the South Coast attractions – there’s plenty to see and do, also with kids. If you don’t feel like driving in Iceland in winter , you can just stay in Reykjavik and make a couple of day trips.

You can read more about Kevin and Christina’s family trip to Iceland on their blog.

Our experience: We have been to Iceland multiple times and in all seasons and indeed, it’s a great place for a more adventurous family trip! On our blog, you can find a huge selection of Iceland destination guides, itineraries, and practical tips. Check our Iceland travel guide for the complete overview.

3. Bali, Indonesia

Recommended by Eric from Travel Babbo.

Bali has become one of our favorite family travel destinations the past couple of years. There’s a perfect mix of beaches and culture, and there’s always something to do, from attending festivals (which seem to take place all the time) to visiting water parks to hiking through rice fields.

The weather is warm year-round, although the rainy season (November through March) is exactly what it sounds like. The food is excellent and inexpensive. My 10-year-old’s favorite restaurant in the world is Cuca, near Jimbaran Beach.

Bali’s hotels are amazing, and virtually all welcome kids. We’ve stayed at hotels on the beach, but also in villas with private plunge pools overlooking river valleys and villas surrounded by rice fields. We always try to do activities through our hotels, like fish feeding, anti-gravity yoga, rice planting, ceramics, and local walks. We’re never ready to check out.

Even though there are more tourists every year, Bali never feels touristy. Ubud retains a really cool, artsy vibe. Plus there’s a monkey forest there – what kid doesn’t want to be surrounded by monkeys?

You can find more tips for visiting Bali with kids on Eric’s blog.

4. Costa Rica

Recommended by various families, including us.

Costa Rica is one of the most recommended family travel destinations in the Americas. It has all the ingredients for a perfect family-friendly travel experience: tropical climate, beaches, rainforests, lots of sightseeing possibilities, fun adventurous activities, and a big variety of wildlife.

No matter what kind of a family travel experience you’re looking for, Costa Rica makes it all possible.

Looking for a relaxing family vacation at a beautiful resort? Head to one of the many coastal destinations.

Looking for an adventure and action-filled vacation with teens? Check out the La Fortuna – Arenal area , aka the adventure capital of Costa Rica.

Want to see wildlife? Visit the famous Manuel Antonio National Park !

Or plan a road trip and see the best that Costa Rica has to offer, and add some relaxing pool/beach time to make it fun for the whole family.

The good thing about Costa Rica is that it’s an extremely family-friendly destination. And – if you’re coming from the USA, you won’t have to cross too many time zones. It’s also a place that you can visit the whole year round (a tropical rain shower is always possible, however).

Here you can find a sample 2-week Costa Rica itinerary that covers some of the best places, gives you plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, get to know the culture, try some fun activities such as zip-lining or wild water rafting, and also plan some relaxing time by the pool or at the beach.

5. Crete, Greece

Recommended by Paul from A Luxury Travel Blog.

The Greek island of Crete is somewhere we’ve frequently holidayed as a family. Crete has everything we could possibly want – a lovely climate, pure relaxation, great beaches, excellent food, and a beautifully slow way of life. There are some superb hotels on the island too!

We’ve often been drawn to a small fishing town Elounda which has some excellent luxury accommodation and plenty to see and do.

If you are looking for a family-friendly destination in southern Europe, a place that has is all, then you can’t go wrong with the Greek Islands and especially Crete!

Check Paul’s blog for all things luxury travel .

6. Whitefish, Montana, USA

Recommended by Nicole – The Passport Kids.

If you are thinking about experiencing what a winter wonderland would be like, our recommendation is the Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort in Montana, USA. The resort offers many family-friendly amenities and activities including daycare and kids ski & ride school directly on the resort.

Enjoy some outdoor winter fun with snowboarding, skiing, snowshoeing or sledding; then cozy up by the fire with some hot chocolate.

The resort and city of Whitefish offer a small-town American feel where life slows down for a while but still offers a great selection of hotels, restaurants and shopping.

Check Nicole’s blog for more information about Whitefish ski resort .

7. Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA

Recommended by Karen from Family Travels on a Budget.

Gulf Shores, Alabama is perfect for families because it’s got all the beach without all the crowds!

We love Gulf Shores for its white sand, seashells, sunsets, and seafood. But what makes it special is the space — wide beaches and smaller crowds mean we have more space to unwind.

Gulf Shores is more than a beach, though. We also enjoy hiking and biking the trails at Gulf State Park, catamaran day trips, paddle boarding and sunset dinners at local restaurants. It’s our home away from home — at the beach!

8. Cape Town, South Africa

Recommended by Keri from Baby Globetrotters (and one of our personal favorites too).

Everything about Cape Town is simply breathtaking! Nestled beneath the unmistakable Table Mountain, many start their South African adventure at the lively V&A Waterfront.

Near to the city, you will find the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens and Tree Canopy Walkway, the Table Mountain Cable Car or why not take a ferry and tour around the now infamous Robben Island?

Heading further out of Cape Town for a couple of days is a must – head to where the oceans meet at the Cape of Good Hope, visit the Penguins at Boulders Beach and spot the seals at Hout Bay.

Next head east to the Stellenbosch wine region – so many family-friendly wine farms it’s hard to choose where to start. Finish off your Cape Town adventure with a simply breathtaking sunset over the Atlantic Ocean from Signal Hill or Camps Bay.

Find out more about Cape Town family vacation on the Baby Globetrotters blog.

Our experience: We completely agree with Keri – Cape Town and the whole of South Africa is amazing with kids and one of our own personal favorite places in the world. Cape Town in South Africa is one of the favourite family travel destinations

Recommended by several families, including us.

If you are looking for a truly unique family vacation destination, then definitely consider Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. It’s such a special place (and totally different from anything else on this list), but it has so much to offer for families!

From beaches to deserts, impressive skyscrapers, and sensational attractions for the whole family, there’s so much to see and do in Dubai that you can easily fill several family vacations here and never get bored.

Visit the world’s highest building, ride a camel in the desert, spend time at one of the many theme parks, or go swimming at some of the world’s most impressive water parks… These are just a few of the amazing things to do in Dubai with kids !

And while visiting a destination like this with the whole family can quickly get quite expensive, there are quite a few really nice free and cheap things to do in Dubai as well.

Furthermore, Dubai enjoys warm weather the whole year round (albeit a bit too hot in the summer months), and it’s a perfect family vacation destination for off-season travel as well.

What we also love about Dubai is that it’s extremely multicultural, and kids can get in touch with different traditions. We were pleasantly surprised by the food in Dubai as well! With so many cuisines and middle-eastern touches, the food is absolutely delicious. It’s also another great way to introduce your children to different cultures.

Here you can find more information and fun facts about Dubai , read more about the best tours in Dubai , and also find out how expensive Dubai is .

10. Cambodia

Recommended by Alanna from The Travelling Hams.

Most people don’t think of Cambodia as a family-friendly destination, but we wholeheartedly disagree! The country is full of stunning nature and some of the most beautiful temple ruins in the world.

Our toddlers loved exploring the ruins as much as we did! For our kids, the ruins were the ultimate playground. Each equipped with crumbling stairs to climb, plenty of rocks and leaves to play with, and even some wildlife to watch. It’s a great way to challenge their senses and it gives you a chance to enjoy them yourself – a double bonus!

Cambodians are some of the friendliest people in Southeast Asia. They love to stop you and chat about your children and give friendly pats and pinches. For those with really young ones- they even help to watch your children while you get a few mouthfuls of food in!

11. Rovaniemi, Finland

Recommended by Erin – Travel with Bender.

If you ask our kids out of the 67 countries they have been to in their 6 years of life, which was their favorite, they would unanimously agree – Finland . More specifically Rovaniemi to the North of Helsinki. Why? So many reasons!

First, it’s where the real Santa lives. When you send a letter to Santa it goes here. You can see all the pigeon holes from around the world with letters to Santa. You can even post your own! You can spend an evening with the elves in the forest, decorating trees, baking cookies, and learning Santa secrets.

Santa's Village in Rovaniemi Finland

In addition, when you are not visiting Santa, you can spend days doing all kinds of fun winter outdoor activities. Ride husky sleds through a winter wonderland, take a reindeer sleigh through the forest, opt for a snowmobile safari that also visits reindeer and huskies, or go snow tubing down giant hills and through ice caves.

Top that with snowmobiles to capture a glimpse of the Northern Lights and a hot dinner of reindeer meat and what could be more perfect?!

Here you can read more about winter holiday in Roveniemi Finland .

12. Portugal

Recommended by Alex – My Life Long Holiday.

Central Portugal has been a family favorite for us since my parents emigrated there a few years back. The area has such a laid-back vibe, great food, culture, and beautiful scenery.

For adventurous families, there are activities like cycling, hiking, and kayaking. But my kids equally like exploring little old villages up in the mountains which haven’t changed for ages, so long as there’s ice cream at the end of it!

The Portuguese love children and you’re welcomed wherever you go with genuine smiles and warm hospitality. Add to this the warm sunshine and you have the formula for a relaxing, easy holiday.

Check Alex’s blog for more inspiration for a trip to Portugal.

Our experience: Inspired by Alex’s suggestion, we decided to visit Portugal with kids . And we were hooked – it’s one of the most beautiful and family-friendly travel destinations in Europe! In fact, we loved it so much that we went back to Portugal and the Portuguese islands several times.

Nowadays, we go to Portugal a few times a year and the whole family loves it. Here you can read about one of our absolute favorite destinations – Algarve with kids . And here, you can find an overview of our Portugal travel tips .

13. Philadelphia, USA

Recommended by Eileen – FamiliesGo!

Philadelphia is close enough to home that it has been a frequent day trip for us. Now that we travel with a child we have begun to stay for a night or two, which has given us a new appreciation for all that this city has to offer for families.

Federal Hall is a must-see on your first visit (the Declaration of Independence was signed here). The city also has a lot of family-friendly museums.

Please Touch Museum will be a hit with younger kids, while school-going children will appreciate the Franklin Institute and the sprawling Museum of Art.

Philadelphia is also known as a great city for eating out. I recommend Federal Donuts near Rittenhouse Square, Hawthorne’s near South Street and Reading Terminal. Great city break for families.

14. The Canadian Rockies

Recommended by Melissa – Parenthood and Passports.

As a family who wants to see as much of the world as possible, it’s rare for us to visit the same destination twice. But there is one place we return time and time again: The Canadian Rockies .

The Canadian Rockies are one of the most naturally beautiful wonders on earth. The mountains have a rugged, majestic appeal. Nestled between them are glacial lakes that shimmer a vibrant shade of blue.

Banff National Park, located in the heart of the Rockies is one of the most family-friendly places we’ve ever visited. The establishments are very accommodating to children, and the area is great to explore with kids.

Banff is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. You’ll find everything from easy hikes to backcountry camping and winter mountain sports. We love exploring outdoors and hope to instill that same passion in our daughter. I can’t think of a better place to do so.

15. Cook Islands

Recommended by Karilyn – No Back Home.

One of our favorite family destinations is the Cook Islands in the South Pacific . For West Coast travelers it’s a short overnight flight with only a 3 hour time change.

The largest and main island, Rarotonga, is actually quite small with a ring road only 29 miles long! You will be welcomed to the island by beautiful white beaches with excellent snorkeling in calm lagoons and lush green mountains as your backdrop.

With plenty of adventure activities from hiking to buggy driving to kayaking to private islands, your family will have the time of their life in this island paradise!

16. Glacier National Park, USA

Recommended by Craig and Bryanna – Crazy Family Adventure.

Glacier National Park is one of the most visited National Parks in the USA and for a good reason. It’s also an amazing family travel destination! The views are out of this world, hiking is amazing, and there are so many fun activities for the whole family!

We really enjoyed driving the scary yet breathtaking beautiful Going to the Sun Road. You can see glaciers, waterfalls, and stunning mountains. There is also so much wildlife and you may even see a mountain goat, bighorn sheep, or a bear! We really enjoyed hiking to Hidden Lake, on the Trail of Cedars, and Apakuni Falls.

Each hike has something to offer from being able to step into the frigid cold glacier water, to seeing amazing waterfalls, or a lake surrounded by mountains. Everywhere you turn in Glacier National Park you are met with a view more beautiful than the last!

17. Big Island, Hawaii, USA

Recommended by Bethany – Flashpacker Family.

Our family’s new favorite destination is the Big Island of Hawaii . Hawaii is such a special place but the Big Island really takes the cake. You can do everything here!

You can swim with turtles , stay in beautiful resorts, enjoy a luau, go whale watching and snorkeling, hike to waterfalls, visit a volcano, and even sail in a submarine.

The Big Island is great for families because it’s easy to rent a car, drive around and enjoy something new every day. There’s no excuse to be bored on the Big Island!

TIP: If you are planning a trip to Hawaii, don’t miss Maui – one of the most beautiful islands. Here you can find Maui itinerary suggestions and here you can read about the very best Maui activities . It’s a wonderful destination for families as well!

18. Florence, Italy

Recommended by Scarlet – Family Focus Blog.

Our favorite family travel destination so far has been Florence in Italy . And yes, it’s a city, but Florence is wonderful for families because there is so much to do and see both indoors and outdoors!

It is a great city to walk around in and explore and make memories that will last a lifetime. The whole family will enjoy the delicious Italian food, culture, and attractions.

In addition, Florence is located in the heart of Tuscany region with the beautiful rolling hill landscapes, charming little towns, and the most friendly locals that absolutely adore children!

More tips for a family trip to Italy .

Our experience: It’s not a secret that Italy is one of our absolute favorite countries in the world and we have visited with and without kids countless times. Tuscany is indeed a wonderful region for a family vacation and Florence is the most beautiful of the Tuscan towns . Rent a villa or look for a nice hotel with a pool, and you can have the best family trip ever – a perfect combination of sightseeing and a relaxing vacation.

19. Hamilton, New Zealand

Recommended by Nadine – Le Long Weekend.

Our favorite family travel destination is Hamilton in New Zealand . Hamilton is New Zealand’s best-kept secret when it comes to family holidays.

Our favorite activities include the Waikato Museum with its dedicated kid’s discovery areas; the Zoo where cheeky Kaka land on your shoulder in the walk-through aviary; and the themed Hamilton gardens which will transport you into a new civilization at every turn!

But what really sets Hamilton apart are the many ‘destination playgrounds’. These amazing parks have the usual fun fixtures, water features, in-ground trampolines, and multi-story playhouses. Great for keeping the little ones busy while you enjoy coffee from a nearby cafe!

20. Florida Keys, USA

Recommended by Carrie Anne – Everything Mom .

When thinking about traveling to Florida with the kids the first place to pop into your mind is probably Orlando. Perfect if you’re looking for thrill rides, but the Florida Keys can offer families the chance to experience the more natural side of the state, specifically Marathon .

Take in a little history exploring the oldest home in the Florida Keys outside of Key West as well as remnants of the Flagler Railroad that connected all of the Florida Keys.

Kids, especially those too young to enjoy more adventurous water pursuits, will love a nature scavenger hunt, swimming with fish, or meeting rescued birds at the Wild Bird Sanctuary. You can even enjoy lunch under a large tiki hut restaurant just off of the scenic Seven Mile Highway.

Marathon also makes a great family destination due to how close it is to the other islands such as Key West and Islamorada. This amazing place proves that your Florida family vacation adventure doesn’t have to include any roller coasters.

21. Dordogne, France

Recommended by Kirsten – Kids are a Trip.

The Dordogne region in France is one of our favorite places to explore as a family. With beautiful castles, rivers for canoeing, and medieval towns for exploring, it is the perfect place to get away from everything and spend some quality time with your kids.

We especially enjoyed the bucolic landscape and the friendliness of the locals and found there was plenty to do for families.

If you want to learn more, please read Kirstin’s post about her family visit to Dordogne .

22. Swiss Mountains

Our personal recommendation.

This list wouldn’t be complete without me sharing at least one of our personal favorite family destinations as well. And if I have to choose just one, it has to be Switzerland!

Switzerland in general, and the Swiss mountains , in particular, has been one of our favorite travel destinations for years. We just love the Swiss Alps!

We try to go to Switzerland at least twice a year: skiing in winter and hiking in summer , and every time we don’t want to leave. Kids have asked several times if we could just move to Switzerland…

Charming mountain villages and small towns have such an amazing atmosphere that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. Add to that stunning landscapes, great food, and a huge variety of things to see and do for families with children, and you cannot go wrong planning a family trip to Switzerland.

TIP: Some of our favorite places include the Lucerne area , Zermatt , Mt Titlis , Grindelwald , Jungfraujoch , and Schynige Platte , to mention just a few.

Hi, we are a family of 4, kids aged 19 and 14 and have been to switzerland, dubai, milan, honkong, paris, istanbul already. We are unable to decide our next travel destination for November. What would you suggest?

Saturday 24th of June 2023

Hi Chitra, that's a tough choice indeed. Purely season-wise, I'd look into Southern Hemisphere for November I suppose. South Africa is amazing for a family trip and Namibia as well. Also Thailand could be a great option or Australia if you have more time. There are so many options. It also depends on where you live and how much time you have. We have quite some articles about the destinations mentioned above on our website, you can use the search button for some inspiration. Good luck!

What an amazing article Wish I could go to all these places Your suggestion for sightseeing that is not tropical for August around the world? Cities and sightseeing is the focus

Monday 22nd of May 2023

There are many places that are not too warm in August. UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia, also pretty much anywhere in Poland or Baltic States. If you are looking for destinations around the world, consider South Africa or Namibia (more nature), and certain parts of Australia (also cities). There are plenty of options. :) Good luck!

Beautiful locations, please share more.

Ha ha, I could easily add a few dozen other places to this list. There are so many amazing destinations all over the world, and more places are family-friendly than people tend to think. Our personal favorite countries to visit with kids are Italy, Portugal, and Switzerland. Happy travels!

Thursday 3rd of March 2022

Hi Jurga, thanks for all the suggestions. It's not easy to decide where to go next. We are a family of 4, kids age 8 and 11, and were thinking of Costa Rica, but are also considering Iceland. Thoughts?

Monday 7th of March 2022

Iceland vs. Costa Rica? They are so different... CR is warm, tropical, with beaches and pools, lots of fun outdoor activities, wildlife, and it's rather cheap compared to Iceland. Iceland is amazing but in a very different way - incredible vast landscapes, the most beautiful waterfalls, glaciers, great hot springs and geothermal pools to swim in... But - depending on when you travel - it can be really cold and - in winter - also dark. Even in summer, you'll usually need sweaters, jackets, etc. Iceland is also much more expensive... I think you should do a bit more research and see what interests you the most, or let it depend on the season - Iceland in summer and Costa Rica in winter. But if it's your first family trip, I honestly think that the entire family, and especially the kids will enjoy Costa Rica more, even if just for the weather. But after you do that trip, definitely do Iceland next - it's one of a kind!

On Maui, you can go on a whale-watching expedition or spend the day hiking through Haleakalā National Park. 4. Mexico City, Mexico

Museo Soumaya Mexico City Mexico

Mexico City, Mexico is an amazing destination for families . With endless kid-friendly activities, parents planning a family vacation have plenty of options to keep their little ones engaged and entertained.

I spent a month there with my family and can confirm that it is absolutely worth the trip. From the incredible museums to lush parks, Mexico City offers something for everyone.

Bonus International Family Vacation: Antarctica

Cole family with Iceberg A23a the largest iceberg in the world during a cruise to antarctica.

You can’t exactly vacation ON Antarctica as you can in other spots on this list. However, you can book a cruise from Ushuaia, Argentina to the 7th Continent . On the right cruise, you can spend several days exploring Antarctica on day trips.

This option isn’t for the faint-hearted family, though. It’s cold in Antarctica. And crossing the Drake Passage can be rough! But the views and wildlife experiences are beyond anything you’ve ever seen before if you do it.

We visited Antarctica in December 2023 and it was truly one of the coolest things we’ve ever done. We even got to see Iceberg A23a , the largest iceberg on earth!

And then there’s the price tag. The absolute lowest Antarctic cruise prices I’ve seen hover around $5,000 USD per person, and they can go up to $30,000+ per person, for a one-week cruise. Kids usually aren’t discounted.

While this isn’t a cruise you’d likely repeat, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth the effort. It absolutely is! Because of the weather and cost, I don’t recommend you plan this trip until your kids are at least 11 or 12 years old. Make it count!

🤩 I love this Tierra del Fuego tour from Ushuaia because it’s one of the prettiest National Parks on Earth!

13 of the Best International Family Vacations

Anytime someone finds out how many countries I’ve visited (66 at the time of this writing) and especially how many I’ve visited with kids (currently 48), the next question is usually, “What is the best country to visit with kids?” And I usually struggle to answer about the best international family vacations.

The truth is, every country we’ve visited has had something inspiring, beautiful, and magical about it. We’ve connected with peoples and customs in each place, and generally found something delicious to eat.

That said, there are a few places that have been especially wonderful with kids. These are places where the kids have been warmly welcomed or had activities available that truly kept them in mind. These are places that were fun and interesting for the whole family. I hope they inspire you to go exploring with your family, too!

Morocco is one of those places that wasn’t really super high on our list, especially with kids. But we were taking a trip to Spain and Portugal, so decided to extend the trip to visit Morocco, as well. And boy are we glad we did! It quickly became one of our favorite international family vacations.

Morocco absolutely blew us away. It’s an incredibly diverse country with the kindest people. And there were so many incredible activities for the whole family. From staying in a bedouin camp in the Sahara Desert to wandering the old medina in Fez, we fell in love with it all. And one of the best parts was that kids were welcomed – and encouraged – absolutely everywhere. They’re very much expected to participate as a part of society and it’s lovely. It was the best country to visit with kids (or at least one of them).

Here’s our guide to visiting Morocco with kids , as well as a 10-Day Morocco itinerary .

Having studied abroad in France, I definitely have a soft spot for the country. But many don’t, especially with kids. The French are often said to be rude, brusque, and intolerant of kids.

Fortunately, we’ve found the opposite to be true! While many French people, especially Parisians, tend to not be quite as warm and fuzzy as people from some other countries, we’ve found that a little effort of kindness (and the kids attempting a few French words) on our behalf goes a long way.

Plus, there are just so many amazing things to do in Paris with kids . We once spent a month there with 4 little ones in a home exchange and I truly think it’s one of the best international destinations with kids. Being in a local neighborhood coupled with seeing some amazing sites (some a bit off-the-beaten-path) was an incredible experience. And my kids still talk often about the cheese, pastries, and salads (my older daughter’s favorite)!

Of course, with lots of family in India and having visited there a number of times growing up, India is definitely special to me. And it was incredible being able to take our own little ones there! It’s definitely one of the best countries to visit with kids.

One wonderful thing about visiting India with kids is how absolutely welcoming everyone is to little ones. In Hinduism, children are incredibly important and are to be treated with utmost kindness, respect, and love. It’s not uncommon for people to want to give kids sweets and other snacks, and to pinch their cheeks while out and about. It can feel a little strange to those from less forward cultures, but it’s typically done out of love. This doesn’t mean you have to accept, of course, but it’s nice to know that it’s not an abnormal thing there.

India is also a very inexpensive destination to travel once you get there. Food and accommodations tend to cost much less than many other countries, making it easier to travel with kids in India.

Visiting the Galapagos Islands had been a dream destination of ours for years and years. And it 100% lived up to our expectations. What we didn’t expect was to love the rest of the country just as much.

For wildlife lovers, an Ecuador family vacation is an absolute dream. From visiting the Amazon rainforest to swimming with sea turtles in the Galapagos, it was incredible throughout. And the people were so kind and welcoming to little ones, too. Definitely one of the best international destinations for families!

Here are some pros and cons to a land tour or a cruise when visiting the Galapagos with kids .

United Kingdom

I’m one of those people who just absolutely adores London. And a big part of that is because of how amazing it is with kids!

There’s something incredible about seeing really iconic sites, of course, but I also love the oodles of history and culture around every corner. And the best part is that so many museums are free! This means we feel free to check out a lot of them, and don’t feel pressured to stay beyond what our kids can handle. So we actually are able to enjoy more museums and leave our kids feeling like they enjoyed the experience and can’t wait to return, instead of dreading those visits. Plus, who can resist the appeal of the top deck of a double decker bus??

Not to mention, London is only a tiny piece of the UK. We loved the stunning beauty of Wales and Scotland, and Edinburgh is another winner of a city.

There are few places that my kids have fell in love with like Thailand. Though our experience there was just under a week (we stopped over on our way back from India), we all connected so much and the kids immediately started asking to return. It was one of the best countries to visit with family.

From the rich cultural and religious history in Bangkok to the beautiful beaches and warm waters of southern Thailand, we loved it all. We’re anxious to go back and explore more of the country – it’s one of the best international trips for families.

While we had hoped to visit Israel for years before we went, Jordan was a bit of an add-on. It seemed that while we were so close, it was a good opportunity explore some related cultural, historic, and religious sites. We honestly had no idea that it would be so incredible.

But Jordan quickly became one of our very favorite places to visit and I would return in a heartbeat. I absolutely loved places like Petra and the Wadi Rum desert, but also lesser known ruins. I loved that it was quiet outside major cities and bustling within. I loved that the number of American tourists, and tourists in general, was fairly small, and it was easy to immerse ourselves in local culture and customs. And we loved the food!! It was one of the best overseas family vacations.

Here’s our suggested one week Jordan itinerary with kids , as well as how to spend one day in Petra !

We’ve loved a lot of international family vacations, but Italy was near the top. There’s just something so delightful about visiting Italy with kids. Of course, the people tend to gush over and really love children, which certainly helps.

But even with all the museums and walking, my kids fell in love. Maybe it was the promise of gelato with practically every stop, but we seemed to never tire of the delightful passageways, beautiful buildings, and charming cafes. And having everything from beach to climbing historic buildings (like the Duomo or Leaning Tower of Pisa) to delicious food made it a perfect international family vacation for all ages.

Here are some ways we visited Italy on a budget , and here are 5 different amazing Italy itinerary options !

New Zealand

To us, New Zealand felt like a magical fairyland with freedom to run and play in the most intense natural beauty. In short, New Zealand is stunning.

And it seems that gorgeous lakes and waterfalls and boat rides are a dime a dozen. There are so many adventures for kids of all ages – from babies to adults. Of course, the more adventuresome will find plenty of high-intensity activities, but even the youngest ones will find plenty of places to explore while surrounded by gorgeous vistas. Plus, I experienced an unforgettable shower there. 🙂

I don’t know that I’ve ever visited a place on an international family trip before that had so many child-friendly amenities. Honestly, we were blown away!

Every museum and castle had robust, beautiful, and educational areas for children. The children’s menus were not throw-away foods; instead, they were balanced and beautiful and much less expensive than the adult meals. Activities and museums were almost always free, and occasional cheaper with kids. (There was one museum that was actually cheaper for a family pass for 2 adults and children than it was to just pay for 2 adults!)

So while it’s definitely tricky to visit Sweden on a budget, we found that the accommodations for kids definitely had a big impact. We found this to be very similar in Norway – also expensive, also lots of accommodations for children. Even the train cars had incredible children’s play areas, and children’s tickets were very inexpensive.

Here are 7 reasons to visit Sweden with kids !

South Africa

There are few more gorgeous cities in the world than Cape Town. It’s absolutely stunning! And the entire country has a fascinating, if sometimes very harsh, history.

While we visited when our oldest was a baby, I’d absolutely love to return with all our kids now. I’m certain they’d be over the moon for the safaris, of course. And the history of apartheid, while difficult to discuss, would provide inroads to start needed difficult conversations. The history is so fresh, raw, and salient there, and I want my kids to understand that advocacy is important in the present. The variety makes it one of the best international trips with kids.

El Salvador

If I’m being perfectly honest, El Salvador was definitely not a full international family holiday for us. Instead, we had a long layover of one full day and a couple nights. But this should tell you how amazing it is because we fell in love even in that short period of time – it became one of our favorite international trips for kids!

The outdoor adventures in El Salvador are plentiful and wonderful for kids. While there are tons of large-scale ones for adults, there are also oodles of incredible places to explore with little ones. Our kids were obsessed with a waterfall area (even the youngest ones loved climbing and splashing!) and we all delighted in our first surfing lessons ever. Such an incredible place with the kindest people. We’d love to return to explore further.

Here’s what to do with one day in San Salvador .

We were thrilled to visit Portugal as my husband lived in Brazil for a couple years and was excited to brush up on his Portuguese. (Turns out Portugal Portuguese is quite different, but he was still able to communicate just fine!) And we loved everything else about it, too!

Living near San Francisco in California, it was so fun to see another city that was the most similar to it that we’ve seen. Lisbon was so fun to explore! But we really fell hard for Porto – a city with the most gorgeous tile, delicious food, and stunning views. The Algarve had some of the most gorgeous rock formations and blue water that we’d seen. It was all stunning!

Honestly, there are plenty of other international family vacations that we adored and that were so kid-friendly. But these were definitely some of our favorite international family vacations! I’d love to hear some of your favorites, too!

If you aren't staying directly on the beach (or just want to hop around and explore), Vanderbilt Beach is a popular spot for swimming, shelling and watersports that's also close to shopping and dining. If you travel about 20 miles north of Naples to Lovers State Park, you can swim in more seclusion than the popular in-town beaches or soak up the dog days of summer with your canine companion at Dog Beach Park.

The Ritz-Carlton, Naples reopened in July of 2023 after an extensive transformation. The hotel added three new dining outlets, newly designed guest rooms and a redesigned pool area with four pools, luxury cabanas and immersive water features. What hasn't changed are Ritz-Carlton's extraordinary guest service and the breathtaking ocean views.

Room rates start at around $783 or 80,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Beginning in October 2024, families can visit the newest location in the Great Wolf Lodge water park resort family. Guest suites in this 500-room resort are designed with families in mind. Standard family suites have two queen beds and a sleeper sofa, but we recommend opting for one of the themed suites with a queen bed for parents and a separate bunk bed area for kids. Admission to the resort's 100,000-square-foot indoor water park is included in your stay. Room rates start at around $200 per night.

Regardless of when you visit the City of Light , you'll be greeted with endless museums, historical landmarks and sprawling green spaces to discover. There is one very special reason to visit in 2024 that may dominate your time in Paris, but it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience for those lucky enough to be there in person.

The 2024 Summer Olympics are being held in France from July 26-Aug. 11, and the opening ceremonies will kick off along the Seine in Paris. Some events will require you to travel outside of the city, but some are taking place right in the heart of Paris. You can watch beach volleyball near the Eiffel Tower, fencing and Taekwondo at the Grand Palais and tennis at the 95-year-old Roland-Garros Stadium.

While you're in town, you can get to Disneyland Paris by bus or train in under an hour. If you prefer to spend more than one day at Disneyland Paris, you can stay in one of the park's eight themed hotels, including the recently reimagined five-star Disneyland Hotel .

Securing hotel reservations in Paris during the Olympics could almost be a Games event in itself. Your best option is likely going to be an official Olympics travel package , which includes a hotel stay and tickets to one or more events.

All eyes will be on the sky in Indianapolis this spring. On April 8, 2024, millions of Americans will be in the path of a rare total solar eclipse , though only a handful of major cities will be along the path of totality with up to four minutes of dark skies.

Indianapolis is one such city along the so-called path of totality, and they are planning a full weekend of fun, including educational films and lectures, games, live entertainment and more between April 5–8, 2024. The best viewing spots will be at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and White River State Park, but events are being held all over town.

international family trip ideas

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis and the Indianapolis Zoo are also getting in on the action. These also happen to be two of the best attractions for families visiting Indianapolis any time of year. The Children's Museum of Indianapolis recently renovated its interactive dinosaur exhibit, and the Indianapolis Zoo has rides and attractions in addition to animal habitats.

international family trip ideas

The JW Marriott Indianapolis is located within walking distance of White River State Park. Guest rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of downtown so you can enjoy the city skyline when you aren't looking up at the sky. Rates start at around $150 or 31,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

international family trip ideas

Families can sleep in a converted 1920s Pullman train car at the Crowne Plaza Indianapolis Downtown Union Station for a unique stay. Traditional rooms are also available, along with an indoor pool, two restaurants and nods to the property's former life as the country's first Union Station. Room rates start at around $170 or 22,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

Bottom line

At TPG, we are on a never-ending quest to provide travelers with vacation experiences that fit their budget, family size and travel style. Families have endless vacation destinations to choose from, and we've compiled the best of the best to help you create your dream getaway.

10 Best International Family Vacations for 2020

See recent posts by Judy Koutsky

Want to venture somewhere new—perhaps outside of the U.S.—in 2020? We know kids like active adventures like ziplining and kayaking (think Belize), but we also know parents want them to try new foods (like wasabi-infused specialties in Japan). Throw in some great tour leaders (we’re looking at you, Adventures by Disney) and some under-the-radar destinations (like Guyana) and you have tons of vacation options across the globe. These are the best international family vacations for 2020.

(Looking for some great vacation ideas closer to home? Check out the 10 Best U.S. Family Vacations for 2020 .)

Belize’s Lodge at Chaa Creek  is a 400-acre eco lodge specializing in adventure, with dozens of different activities offered each day. Be sure to go on a bird watching tour—this area has some of the best bird watching in the country—or take a tubing excursion deep into the jungle, where you can see plenty of beautiful toucans, the national bird of Belize . Zipline among the trees and see a view of the jungle from above. Naturalist guides will take guests horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking through the dense jungle while travelers take in the diverse flora and fauna of the region. Be sure to take a canoe trip down the Macal River to see birds, howler monkeys and other wildlife.

Next, head to the second largest barrier reef system in the world. Victoria House Resort & Spa , located on Ambergris Caye, features spacious villas, a gourmet restaurant with freshly-caught seafood, two beachfront pools and a dive shop where charter boats can be arranged for exhilarating adventures such as scuba diving in the world-renowned Great Blue Hole or snorkeling in Shark Ray Alley. Then head to Naia Resort and Spa  in Placencia, the southern part of Belize, where the family can go on leisure bike rides or spend the day on kayaks or SUP.

Recommended Belize Hotel: The Lodge at Chaa Creek

2. Curtain Bluff Resort in Antigua

Families looking for all-inclusive fun on the island of Antigua should look no further than Curtain Bluff Resort . Located on 20 acres of landscaped land nestled between two sandy beaches, the resort features one of the highest repeat guest ratios in the Caribbean. For families looking to have many options—without having to check the price constantly—this all-inclusive resort is just the ticket. From snorkeling trips to Cades Reef to water-skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking and windsurfing, kids will have plenty to keep them busy. Plus, the outdoor kids’ club—with feeding and playing with turtles, colorful paint projects, and coconut arts and crafts—will have the kids begging to go back each day.

3. Adventures by Disney Iceland

Adventures by Disney  has been leading tours since 2005, and has more than 50 itineraries on six continents, with Iceland being one of their newest (and, rapidly, most popular) tours. The  eight-day Iceland tour includes Reykjavik, Vik, Akureyri, Húsavík, and Lake Mývatn. While those names might not be overly familiar, the attractions in those towns are—namely hiking on a glacier, going to the Blue Lagoon, and visiting geysers and waterfalls. In Grindavík, about an hour by car from Reykjavik, the thermal waters of the Blue Lagoon—as well as the accompanying lava mud masks—are the perfect antidote for jet lag on the first day.

The second day is action-packed, covering the Golden Circle—one of the most popular routes that takes visitors from geysers to craters. Plus, there’s plenty to keep everyone active, including riding Icelandic horses; hiking down into Kerio Crater, a volcanic crater that was formed more than 6,500 years ago; and exploring the bubbling hot springs and geysers at Strokkur Geyser.

Other highlights include hiking on the Skaftafell glacier, going behind the waterfalls at Seljalandsfoss (which seems otherworldly), and whale watching (and being mere feet away from them) in Iceland’s longest fjord. There’s also whitewater rafting in Skagafjorour in the north (a part of Iceland that rarely gets explored), as well as visits to the lava labyrinths in Dimmuborgir.

4. UnCruise Adventures to Costa Rica and the Panama Canal

For families who want a truly unique adventure, consider a visit to Costa Rica and the Panama Canal with  UnCruise Adventures . Uncruise is so named because it’s unlike any other cruise line—it’s all about active adventure and interaction in the destination. Each day, familes will have the option to hike, snorkel, kayak, SUP and do skiff tours to see monkeys, sloths, iguanas, hummingbirds, toucans, howler monkeys, scarlet macaws, white-faced capuchins and whales.

Families also get to visit San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, before sailing to Curu National Wildlife Refuge, where a hike to Finca de Monos trail will let kids get up close to monkeys and sloths. Next up is the Osa Conservation Area, home to the country’s largest national park, Corcovado. Here, there’s a good chance to see tree frogs, caimans, anteaters, scarlet macaws, coatis, and 16 different species of hummingbird. In Panama, sail through the islands of Coiba National Park, making a stop at the postcard-perfect Granito de Oro islet for snorkeling, kayaking and relaxing in the sand. Then transfer from ocean to ocean via the world-famous Panama Canal.

5. Australia’s Outback

The Outback of Australia, located in the Northern Territory, is famous for its Red Center desert landscape. Home to the iconic sandstone monolith Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock), the red-rock domes of Kata Tjuta and the sculpted cliffs of Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park, this area offers plenty of adventure activities for families—including camel safaris into the desert and canyon hikes where kangaroos can be spotted.

For your home base, Sails in the Desert Hotel is ideal in terms of location and activities it offers. Kids can learn about the aboriginal people by taking part in the resort’s cooking class, where they’ll be taught about the native foods and seasonings—and how certain plants, fruits and grains are used in traditional cooking methods.

In Kings Canyon, there are amazing hikes including the Kings Canyon rim walk. Kings Canyon Resort  is a true family resort and a good place to stay. In Alice Springs, be sure to visit the Kangaroo Sanctuary. You’ll get a chance to get up close to these beautiful creatures and learn all about their habitat. The 188-acre wildlife sanctuary was opened in 2011 for rescued baby and adult kangaroos. It’s a great way to end your bucket-list family trip .

Recommended Australian Outback Resort: Sails in the Desert Hotel

For families interested in eco-tourism and adventure activities, Guyana is a great place to visit. It was recently named one of the top ecotourism destinations in the world by travel industry insiders, which isn’t surprising for those familiar with this under-the-radar country. Reachable via non-stop flights from New York, Miami and other U.S. hubs, this small nation is located in the northern part of South America, bordering Brazil, Venezuela and Suriname. Guyana is the only country in South America whose official language is English.

Direct flights and the absence of a language barrier aside, what really attracts people to this country are its truly unique nature and wildlife offerings. The country is often referred to by travelers as the “Land of the Giants” since people come here to see the giant river otters, giant South American turtles, giant anteaters, jaguars (considered the largest in South America), the Harpy eagle (the largest eagle on this continent and one of the world’s most powerful birds of prey), and the giant Victoria Amazonica water lily (Guyana’s national flower and the world’s largest lily). Here, the hyperbole lives up to the hype.

Be sure to visit the Rupununi region—where savannah, mountains and rainforests meet. This area is home to many endangered and protected species. We also recommend a stay at Karanambu ranch, where you’ll get to see the giant otter rehab project, which helps rehabilitate injured and orphaned otters and re-introduce them to the wild. Spend some time with the otters during the day before partaking in the caiman project once night falls. The giant black caiman is the one of largest freshwater crocodiles on the planet, and the Caiman House has been conducting research on these amazing creatures for more than 10 years. They take guests out in the dry season to catch the caimans and record data—you’ll witness them weighing, measuring and then tagging the caimans before releasing them back into the water.

Recommended Hotel: Karanambu Lodge

7. G Adventures Japan Family Journey

Hot on the heels of hosting the Rugby World Cup in 2019, Japan has no plans to slow down in 2020, as it’ll be hosting the Summer Olympics. Want to go? Consider a trip with G Adventures , which recently teamed up with National Geographic to launch family-specific itineraries. G Adventures’ travelers to the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’ have been steadily increasing, with an additional 23 percent growth in the past year.

Its 11-day Japan Family Journey starts in Tokyo, where families explore the dazzling uniqueness of this bustling city before heading to Kyoto and the mountain city of Nagano. Activities for families include practicing sumo wrestling and samurai swordplay and sampling a variety of wasabi-infused culinary delights (don’t worry, there are plenty of options, even for the pickiest eaters). This intimate experience means there won’t be more than 20 people in a group, and activity levels are appropriate for kids.

8. Tanzania

Africa for kids? Yes! Travel agents and African specialists agree that a safari can be the ultimate family vacation and no place does it better than Tanzania. The Elewana Collection camps and lodges have been designed to offer the whole family a comprehensive safari experience with an inspiring and educational slant. Each property offers specific activities geared toward families.

Of course, game drives are the big draw for all ages while on safari, but guides also love imparting knowledge and a love of Africa in the younger set, encouraging them to become the next custodians of this fragile area of the planet. Activities include village and school visits (where your kids can interact with the local children), conservation programs (chatting with anti-poaching teams to learn more about conservation), and learning about the traditional food and culture of the Tanzanian community.

At each camp, there’s also specific activies geared toward kids. In Elewana Manor at Ngorongoro, kids can go biking, go on farm visits to see local African animals and tour a coffee plantation to see how this valuable export is made. At Serengeti Pioneer Camp , kids can play safari bingo—going on game drives and walking safaris and crossing off the animals they see for a prize. At Serengeti Migration Camp , kids will learn traditions of the local people by making masks and jewelry .

Recommended Hotel: Elewana Manor at Ngorongoro

If the movie Frozen hasn’t already inspired your kids to visit Arendelle (which is based on the real Arendal in Norway), then the sequel definitely will. But beyond Frozen -inspired adventures , there are plenty of other kid-friendly destinations in Norway, such as the town of Hallingdal, which is located between Oslo and Bergen in Eastern Norway and has become a top location for family holidays. Here, the kids will love the Bjørneparken (“the bear park”), where families can get close (in a safe way, of course!) to bears, elk, lynx and even crocodiles. The nearby nature park at Langedrag allows kids the opportunity to see wolves, lynx and moose, and feed reindeer. Plus, nearby playgrounds and activities include a zipline and a brand-new water park for children.

Want an unusual place to play? Head to Gardnos meteorite park where a geologist will show you a real meteorite crater and talk about the rocks and nature that make up the area. Do you have little kids? Go to the town of the area around Lillehammer, less than two hours by train from Oslo Airport. At the Lilleputthammer miniature town in Hafjell, activities have been designed for children between 1 and 8 years old. Think small buildings perfect for the little ones to dress up in costumes , take part in arts and crafts activities, climb small towers and ride a miniature roller coaster and Ferris wheel. The little cars are also made for the junior set to cruise around.

Recommended Hotel: Scandic Hafjell

10. Fiji

Fiji is a great beach destination for families. At the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa , kids can take part in the Planet Trekkers Kids Club, which has pitch and putt, beach football, cricket, volleyball sessions and beach games .  The Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa has the Niu Beach Club for kids, which has lots of fun choices including a wet and wild splash area, an artist in residence with whom kids can tap tap into their creative side, and a climbing wall and trampoline area on the beach. Shangri-la Fijian Resort & Spa has a large floating water park and a “Kids Eat Free” program (for kids under  age 12), as well as kayaks, paddleboards and a variety of water sports for the whole family to enjoy.

Bonus: It just became easier for families to get to Fiji. Fiji Airways , Fiji’s national airline, has two new Airbus A350 XWB aircraft. If you’re lucky enough to fly business class, that means fully lie-flat beds. But even if you’re flying economy, the seats are ranked among some of the most comfortable long-haul economy class seats available. Plus, the kids will love the seemingly endless entertainment options, fast Wi-Fi and the Fijian hospitality, with some of the friendlies flight attendants in the sky.

The 7 Best International Destinations for Traveling With Kids

international family trip ideas

Taking your kids on a far-flung trip isn’t as challenging as it may sound. Yes, there are logistics to think about, and planning ahead is necessary, but you’ll find that traveling abroad will open up your kids’ eyes to new places and lifestyles. Their senses will be lit up with the exposure of dynamic and diverse foods, languages, cultures, wildlife, and landscapes. And, of course, the best part of all is the family bonding time and all of the indelible memories that you’ll create along the way.

The first step is to decide what type of trip you want. Do you have images in your head of your kids playing in the sand at an all-inclusive resort or navigating a city or zip-lining over treetops in the jungle? Once you know what you want to do, you can narrow down where to go . Keep reading for inspiration on the best worldwide destinations for family-friendly travel.

There’s much to do for families in the Emerald Isle , an island country with rolling hills in every shade of green, windswept landscapes dotted with farm animals, and vibrant smaller-sized cities. You’ll explore castles (don’t forget to kiss the Blarney Stone), churches, and fortresses here, and Ireland is home to six national parks. Explore at your own pace, rent a car, and drive the Ring of Kerry scenic loop around Iveragh Peninsula to see enchanting towns and dramatic coastal landscapes. From The Giant’s Causeway , a UNESCO World Heritage Site to Dunluce Castle to Whiterocks Beach, exploring Causeway Coast will certainly be a highlight. Of course the craggy Cliffs of Moher, on the southwestern lip of the Burren region in County Clare is worth a look-see. You'll notice that there's something to do every month .

Start your family adventure in Dublin, the capital city, and check out the Dublin Castle, Dublin Zoo, the Trinity College Library, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Kids will also get a kick out of the National Leprechaun Museum of Ireland and the National Wax Museum.

Tip: Airbnb will offer you a plethora of options for accommodations, including unique stays in the heart of Dublin or in the countryside at a farm, or in a cottage along the coast.

Hidden from the outside world in the Andes Mountains of Southern Peru, out of view from the nearby city of Aguas Calientes, sits Machu Picchu , an Incan citadel built in the 15th century and later abandoned during the Spanish conquest. Walking through the grounds, past man-made stone irrigation terraces, up and down stone staircases, and near remnants of houses built in rows, where llamas poke their heads in and out, is one of the most ethereal experiences you’ll ever have with your children.

Tip: Book a room at Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel in Aguas Calientes for two nights so you can explore Machu Picchu twice, once in the early evening and once in the early morning. This will also enable you to hike to the Sun Gate, an easy kid-friendly hike with stellar views.

You could spend weeks in Tokyo and not see everything. Kids will have a blast at Disney Tokyo, the Samurai Museum, and the Ghibli Museum. Take your family to one of the animal cafes: cat, owl, or hedgehog. You’ll sip tea or coffee while your little ones gently play with the creatures in a safe and clean environment. Have your kids’ fortunes read at Sensō-ji Buddhist temple and wander the lovely grounds. Stop at Meiji Jingu Shinto shrine, which has an enormous garden.

The Harajuku district is where you’ll find street food, bump elbows with colorful teenagers wearing brightly-hued pony tails, and see avant-garde art. One of the most amazing facts about Tokyo is that even though the city is home to nearly 14 million people, you’re never very far from green spaces or parks . Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Ueno Park are perfect destinations for taking a break from exploring and sightseeing.

Tip: For truly unique behind-the-scenes city adventures, as well as family-friendly accommodations, utilize the services of Abercrombie & Kent, expert travel planners that can arrange for private Taiko drumming lessons or introductions to Sumo wrestlers on a custom booked tour.

Wendy Altschuler

A trip to this northern island nation won’t disappoint. Your family will see geysers, volcanoes, lava fields, glaciers, and so much geothermal activity that you’ll understand how local Icelanders can heat their homes relatively inexpensively. You’ll drive past moss-covered hills and wonder where all the trees and forests went. Visit the famous Blue Lagoon thermal pools, Gullfoss Falls, and spend time wandering around Reykjavik, the country’s largest city and capital.

Tip: Consider booking a farm stay or accommodations in a bed and breakfast for a unique family-friendly Icelandic stay on the land of fire and ice.

Courtesy of  Visit London

You’ll find that there’s much to explore in the city of London , including new attractions and family-friendly entertainment. You may consider booking a city tour to make the best use of your time and to see the important sites: Tower of London, Tate Modern, British Museum, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Piccadilly Circus, Tower Bridge, and more. Harry Potter fans will love the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, and little kids will have fun at Sea Life London Aquarium and the London Transport Museum.

Tip: Start by booking accommodations in central London, where you’ll be within walking distance to many of the sites and attractions. While it’s more expensive than finding a room farther outside of the city, you’ll make up for it by saving on transportation costs.

Wendy Altschuler

No matter what ages your kids are, everyone in your multigenerational family will love spending time together under a star-filled sky, roasting marshmallows, riding horses, fishing, and playing in a spring-fed river. Get back to nature on an adventuresome vacation like no other with a stay at The Resort at Paws Up , a luxury dude ranch located just east of Missoula, Montana .

Thrill seekers will love taking an ATV through rugged landscapes, river rafting, rappelling off of a 170-foot cliff, shooting sporting clays on a guided course, and making their way through The Sky Line Aerial Rope Course. Take it slow and hike through the 100 miles of wilderness trails, admiring the wildflowers on the forest floor. The Kids Corps of Discovery will get your little ones off of screens and into nature, making friends as they play outside. And, if options are what your family needs in terms of dining, options are what they’ll get. The resort has two restaurants—one casual, one fine dining—and the chefs are more than accommodating for particular needs or tastes.

Tip: You’ll be able to plan out your activities and dining program in advance with the resort’s concierge services. There are a number of fun happenings and events at the resort year round including wilderness workshops, special musical guests, cooking classes, and more.

Bimini, Bahamas

Just south of Florida, in the Bahamas archipelago, sits Bimini . A trip here will surely ease your family into international travel as the island is just 50 miles from Miami. Head straight to the beautiful beaches, stretching from Alice Town to Bailey Town, include Porgy Bay Beach, Radio Beach, and Blister Beach. Kids will love looking for washed up conch shells dotting the sand.

Book a stay at The Hilton at Resorts World Bimini , a beachfront property that offers an on-property beach, jet skiing, kayaking, and paddle-boarding. When you’ve worked up an appetite, check out The Beach Club for casual kid-friendly fare.

Tip: When you need a break from lounging on the beach, take a golf cart to Gallant Lady, a sunken ship with exposed rusty parts, and spend some time shopping at Fisherman’s Village.

I simply adore the time I spend with my grand-family. Yes to international family travel vacations with ALL the family. And most definitely yes to skip-gen trip with just me and my grandkids – although sometimes Papa comes along for the fun.  But it’s a big world out there, and this Grammie loves to travel, so the question remains?  Where are the best international family vacations for multigenerational travel?

I’ve got my favorites, but I also enlisted a lot of help from my family travel blogger friends including these family bucket list destinations . Read on my family travelers, go ahead and create your own international multigenerational family vacation — but do share your favorites with me!

1. London, England

All aboard a double-decker bus to visit iconic attractions in London, England, like Big Ben.

Hop-on-and-hop-off the bus all day and discover the iconic Big Ben clock tower, Westminster Abbey, the Palace and the changing of the guards, the London Eye observation wheel with panoramic views of the Thames River and the South Bank, plus so much more.

If you have more time, I’d highly suggest an Eating Europe London East End Food Tour This guided tour is a great way to explore neighborhoods, learn about its history all while enjoying the local cuisine

On our latest visit, we chose to stay near the Tube at The Colonnade Hotel in Little Venice, set in the quiet family-friendly Naida Vale neighborhood, walking distance to the Warwick Avenue Underground on the Bakerloo Line. While this particular visit I wasn’t traveling with the multigenerational family, the hotel’s second-story loft suite would be perfect for families.

For more tips for visiting London, read more about Best Places to Visit when in London and Uncovering the Darker Side of London .

When visiting Ireland with your family, everyone can feel like royalty when booking a room at Dromoland Castle.

I could live in the beautiful and welcoming country of Ireland. Dublin is one of the best family vacation destinations for multigenerational travel as there is so much to see and do.

Like London, I feel this city is best explored by using the City-Sightseeing double-decker bus to transport you to all the iconic places in Dublin . These buses stop at more than 30 places, including Temple Bar, Dublin Castle, Guinness Storehouse, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Merrion Square, and much much more.

And since you’ve already chosen Ireland for your international family vacations, go ahead and explore more of the Emerald Isle. I’d also recommended adding a night to visit Belfast and the Titanic Museum. Then continue on a road trip exploring and experiencing Ireland’s rugged landscape and dramatic sea cliffs along the Wild Atlantic Way and the Giants Causeway.

Other awe-inspiring stops included Slieve League Cliffs, The Burren, Ailwee Caves & Cliffs of Moher.  As a fan of Game of Thrones, I also planned a stop at the Dark Hedges, a tunnel of beech trees featured in Season 2, Episode 1, and in typical Irish fashion, we also experienced a steady dose of rain.

Here are my favorite hotels to stay in Ireland.

3. Nice, South of France

Nice, South of France, is a favorite for international multigenerational family travel. Photo: Clare, Epic Road Rides

~Contributed by Clare, Epic Road Rides

Nice, on the Cote d’Azur in the south of France, is a brilliant choice for a multigenerational family vacation. For adults, there’s a fantastic range of restaurants, bars and cafés, beautiful Belle Epoque architecture and art galleries. Artists including Picasso, Chagall, and Matisse made the French Riviera their home and Nice is home to the Chagall museum, as well as more contemporary works in the modern art gallery, MAMAC. For adults that happen to love cycling, Nice is also a world-class cycling destination!

For kids, Nice offers the beach, the Promenade des Anglais for cycling/scooting/skateboarding, a huge, traditional carousel and awesome parks and playgrounds. Our favorite park is the Promenade de Paillon. This park winds its way through Nice and contains a huge whale climbing frame and series of automated fountains that kids (and adults!) love to run through.

We stayed in an Airbnb property on the Place Garibaldi, between the port and Promenade de Papillon. This is a fantastic location, as you’re on a historic square and close to everything Nice has to offer. Nice has something for all the family. We highly recommend it!

4. Algarve,  Portugal

The Algarve region of southern Portugal is an ideal destination for a multigenerational family holiday. As well as family-oriented adventure and water and fun parks and an array of beaches in reasonably protected bays, there’s also a vast network of walking trails of varying duration and levels of challenge for those who enjoy the outdoors. Typical Portuguese restaurants are renowned for accommodating families although you should book ahead for large groups.

For adults who want a dose of culture, this is easy to find in the Algarve. Towns like Silves with its red sandstone castle and pretty cobbled streets can be fun for all ages while the region’s capital city, Faro, has several museums and art galleries to explore and a chilling bone chapel.

Where you stay will depend on many factors, but a good base for all ages is Lagos, which has plenty of restaurants, shops, great beaches, and fun activities. It also has a train line that connects you with central and eastern Algarve and buses to other destinations. Look for accommodation near the marina or towards Praia do Canavial or Meia Praia instead of the old town as this can be noisy in high season.

5. Barcelona, Spain

A popular European destination, Barcelona is often seen as a magnet for young singles looking for pretty Instagram shots. But, this Mediterranean city actually has a wide variety of attractions for all ages! The Gothic Quarter is fun for everyone to explore! Adults will love learning about the historic Roman columns and squares. Kids can play in leafy plazas, and parents can relax nearby at the charming terrace bars.

We can’t forget about the mass appeal of the architecture of Antoni Gaudí as well. His masterpieces like the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell fascinate children with their vibrant colors and organic shapes. Adults will be intrigued to learn about the symbolic details in each of Gaudí’s works. For example, the Sagrada Familia’s interior was designed to emulate a heavenly forest.

In a city of 1.6 million people, Barcelona is a versatile destination, which fails to bore any visitor, even if you have just one day in this Spanish city.

For a place to stay, I recommend the Barcelona Catedral Hotel in the Gothic Quarter, which is near most of the Barcelona attractions. It has also a rooftop view and a swimming pool that the kids will love!

6. Upper Middle Rhine Valley, Germany

The perfect international destination for multigenerational family travel is Oberwesel, Upper Middle Rhine Valley, Germany.

~Contributed by Katrin Walzl, Moon & Honey Travel

Germany’s Romantic Rhine Valley, also known as the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, is a perfect holiday destination for families. Famed for its hilltop castles, steep vineyards, and medieval towns, this UNESCO World Heritage Site can be experienced in many ways.

Parents and their adult children can savor Riesling in the valley’s many wine taverns, or cruise the Rhine River between the cities of Koblenz and the towns of Rüdesheim am Rhein and Bingen.

Families with children can embark on a tour of the region’s many castles starting with Schloss Stolzenfels, Marksburg, Burg Rheinfels, and Burg Reichenstein.

Active families should consider hiking a segment of the famous Rhine Castle Trail for epic views of the Rhine Gorge. Stage 10, between the towns of Oberwesel and Sankt Goar, is not to be missed.

7. Lapland, Finland

Nowhere in the world can you find more Santas, snow or activities geared toward the holidays than you can in Lapland, Finland.  Lapland is a region that spans the northernmost part of Finland, home to the official town of Santa Claus in Rovaniemi, Finland.  It is the perfect place to take everyone in the family, from grandparents to the tiniest little people.  If you are going to Lapland with kids, it is a magical place to visit year-round, with family-friendly activities and a host of things to see and do.

Going on a sleigh ride with reindeer, husky sledding, ice fishing, snowmobiling, visiting Santa Park, chasing the northern lights, and meeting Santa are just a few family-friendly activities that can be done with people of all ages. Tour operators easily accommodate all age groups and ensure everything is ready for the whole family.

The best, most central place for all this is Rovaniemi where you can stay at the Official Santa Claus Holiday Village.

In addition to Rovaniemi, there are a host of other cities to visit in Lapland including Saariiselka, Yllas, and Levi.  Doing any day trips in Lapland is entirely possible from city to city and a wonderful way to experience the region with everyone in the family.

8. Riga, Latvia

Riga is the capital of Latvia, and offers so much for multigenerational family travelers to enjoy, from exploring its cobblestoned streets and its art noveau architecture to experiencing its fantastic foodie scene.

~Contributed by Julie, Why Not Ju

Riga is the capital of Latvia and the biggest city in the Baltic states and located in the river mouth of Daugava River. It used to be an important port for European trade dating back all the way to the Viking age. The city’s historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, acknowledged for its wooden buildings and Art Nouveau architecture. In fact, Riga has the highest number of Art Nouveau buildings in the world.

The old town’s cobblestoned streets are pedestrians only, perfect for a day of walking around in calmness and enjoying the surroundings. The area has plenty of museums and cafes to take shelters in for rainy days. You can spend hours learning about Latvian and Baltic history or people spotting and tasting the local cuisine. The river and canal cruises from Riga’s old town are wonderful activities for the whole family as well.

Riga is famous for its spas and several of the hostels already offer spa access included with your room at certain times a day. Riga is a perfect multigenerational destination with its beauty, relatively short walking distances and variated attractions!

9. Baltic Sea Cruise

"<yoastmark

A Baltic Sea Cruise has been on my travel bucket list since I was a pre-teen and became fascinated with genealogy. My great-grandparents (on my father’s side) immigrated here from Norway, and my mother’s side of the family came from Norway and Sweden.

While in the past cruising wasn’t at the top of my list, Regent Seven Seas Cruise line and their Baltic Sea itinerary won me over.  For families, it’s great to unpack and stay while checking multiple destinations off your family travel bucket list.

Regent Seven Seas offers luxury cruises visiting over 300 ports worldwide. With the theme of Vikings & Monarchs, my Regent Baltic Sea cruise began in Copenhagen, Denmark and ended in Stockholm, Sweden. The cruise also included stops in the ports of Warnemünde (Rostock), Germany; Klaipeda, Lithuania; Riga, Latvia; Helsinki, Finland; St. Petersburg, Russia; Tallinn, Estonia.  And the best reason: these shore excursions are included in the price of your cruise, but be sure to book your excursions early as the popular ones fill up fast!

10. Zakopane, Poland

Take the family traveling to experience the small town of

~Contributed by Holly, Four Around the World

Zakopane is a small town located in the south of Poland. It is especially popular during the winter months when it becomes a perfect wonderland for winter sports. Situated at the base of the Tatra Mountains, Zakopane is a wonderful multigenerational destination to visit.

During the winter months, enjoy the beautiful snow-capped scenery as it comes alive with the festive season. We spent a family Christmas in Zakopane many years ago, with our extended family and friends and it could not have been a better place for it.

There is plenty to see and do no matter what season it is, with the scenery and rich culture appealing to the older generations and the adventure activities keeping the kids and young at heart entertained. A visit to the markets and some traditional Polish street food is a must, plus catching the funicular up Mt Gubalowka.

The best way to experience Zakopane is by renting a private home for your stay, rather than staying in a hotel. This is a far more popular option and it gives you plenty of room to stay as a family, fully self-contained and comfortable.

11. Wroclaw, Poland

Another beautiful city in Poland, Wroclaw, is a top pick for international multigenerational family travel destinations

~Contributed by Joanna, Overhere

Wroclaw is a beautiful city in southern Poland, located on Oder river banks. There are many tourist attractions in Wroclaw suitable for travelers of all ages – it’s a perfect multigenerational vacation destination.

Wroclaw is famous for gnomes figurines places randomly in different parts of the city. Looking for gnomes is a fun activity not only for kids.

Other great family attraction in Wroclaw is the zoo. It’s the oldest zoological park in Poland! The most interesting part of Wroclaw zoo is Afrykarium – it’s the first oceanarium in Poland presenting African fauna and flora. There are over 200 species in Afrykarium, so visit in this amazing museum will be of educational value for all members of your family.

Another fantastic place to visit in Wroclaw is Hydropolis – a multimedia exhibition which covers all the information possible about water. Thanks to numerous interactive exhibits, Hydropolis is one of the most interesting places in Wroclaw.

One of the best places to stay in Wroclaw is the Hotel Patio. Located close to the city centre, this hotel offers comfortable rooms, full board at the hotel restaurant, and the kids’ zone in the lobby.

Visit Italy: 1 of 5 must see places includes Rome's Trevi Fountain.

My first international travel was to Italy. After spending 3 weeks exploring the entire country, from Milan to Venice, Florence to Tuscany region, Rome to Pompeii, I was hooked.

The wine. The food. The locals. The history. I simply loved this country and can’t wait to return — and to take the multigenerational family. One of our favorite things to do are food tours, such as this Rome Family Food & Art Experience.

When you do visit, here are the 5 must-see places in Italy.

international family trip ideas

We are very lucky in that we have an extremely close relationship with my partner’s parents and travel with them quite often, as well as our young children. Recently, we all traveled to Bali for a holiday and there really was something for everyone!

My mother-in-law and I both love our retail therapy, so we spent hours wandering around the local markets together. She was on the hunt for beautiful fabrics for her sewing projects, and I found some great dresses and accessories to take home. All three generations enjoyed plenty of relaxing days at the beach or around the pool soaking up the sun and playing in the waves with my toddler. My partner surfed while my father-in-law built sandcastles with my daughter and everyone was happy.

Eating out was easy, with plenty of options for everyone from western food and chain restaurants to some fantastic local warungs (casual Balinese eateries).

Whether you’re looking for a cultural adventure, lazy beach days or some serious retail therapy, Bali is the perfect destination for a multi-generational holiday!

15. Kangaroo Island, Australia

Have camera ready as your family experiences all that Kangaroo Island, Australia, has to offer.

~Contributed by Delphine, Lester Lost

Australia is a destination that appeals to many types of travelers. Families, solo travelers, couples, backpackers. Finding a destination for a multi-generation wasn’t too hard. My father, 10-year-old nephew, and I opted for 5 days on Kangaroo Island in South Australia.

A large island off the south coast of Australia, Kangaroo Island is famous for its spectacular natural landmarks and its plentiful wildlife. In 5 days, we came across kangaroos, koalas, pelicans, seals, sea lions and dolphins. With a party of two keen photographers and a young boy, everyone enjoyed the encounters that had a taste of adventure.

Kangaroo Island is a big island and there is a fair amount of driving to be done. However, the roads are flat and fairly quiet so it wasn’t stressful. Kangaroo Island also has its share of beautiful beaches, much to the delight of our young companion.

In order to keep everyone happy, we were able to mix the visits to old towns and lighthouses with sandboarding on beautiful dunes! Five days of multi-generational travel on Kangaroo Island created some life-long memories for all of us!

16. The Maldives

Known for its beaches, blue lagoons, and extensive reefs, The Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 ring-shaped atolls, which are made up of more than 1,000 coral islands

~Contributed by Sara, Our Kind of Crazy Blog

The Maldives is the perfect destination for young and old. It’s a dream vacation for the adults, and will soon be for the kids as well. The Maldives is made up of local islands and resort islands. The resort islands are probably best for the multi-generational trips, as most resorts have activities that will cater to any age group.

We found a great resort in Robinson Club Noonu, an all-inclusive family resort. All you can eat, all you can drink, and all you can do. There’s a buffet with so many food choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so even your picky eaters will find something they’ll love.

Activities during the day range from pool time, walking around the island, enjoying the spa, playing sports on the courts, games in the recreational area, and of course, snorkeling right outside your room. You can even rent an overwater bungalow complete with your own private infinity pool and hammock over the water.

Robinson Club Noonu also offers a child center, so the kids won’t get bored, and the adults can enjoy some alone time. Definitely, the perfect multi-generational trip your family won’t soon forget!

17. Luxury African Safari

Fulfill your African safari bucket list vacation with these 5 Luxurious Safari Resorts in Africa

An African safari sits high on my family’s travel bucket list, as there’s just something so appealing about being at one with nature, out in the plains of Africa and the thrill of seeing animals in the wild. Since I’m not the tent-in-the-bush-kind-of-traveler, I am looking more toward luxurious safari resorts in Africa. Here are  5 top luxurious safari resorts in Africa .

18. Cozumel, Mexico

Imagine you and your next multigenerational family vacation here, Cozumel, Mexico, relaxing and enjoying the sunset.

~Contributed by Philip, Zen Travellers

Cozumel, Mexico is a beautiful travel destination that has something for any age.   Young kids will enjoy playing on the fantastic beaches while the order crowd might enjoy some time relaxing or watching the little ones…maybe even enjoying a few margaritas while doing so.  Speaking of margaritas, the older members of the family will certainly want to do a tequila tasting.  No kids allowed here, of course!

Another highlight that will be educational for the whole family is visiting the San Gervasio Mayan ruins.  These ruins used to be a place of worship for the Mayan goddess Ix Chel, a goddess of childbirth, fertility, medicine, and weaving.

Of course, there is a fantastic food scene with all of the Mexican staples and there are a lot of familiar North American restaurants for the picky eaters in the family.

Those old enough to do so will likely want to spend some time in the waters scuba diving, and the younger ones can get their exposure to marine life by snorkeling.  The reefs are teeming with fish and if you’re lucky you’ll spot sea turtles, eagle rays, or nurse sharks.

If you’re staying with the whole family I recommend booking an Airbnb as they will give you enough space for everyone and most likely, a kitchen where you can cook some of your meals.

Multi-generational families will certainly find something that everyone can enjoy in this little slice of paradise!

19. Dominican Republic

The Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana Resort in Dominican Republic is a great option for multigenerational family travel.

~Contributed by Sharon, Daily Dream 360

With resorts scattered amongst its biggest coastal cities and numerous excursion opportunities, the Dominican Republic is an excellent destination for multi-generational trips. The majority of resorts are built to provide experiences for all ages providing a variety of services, activities and room accommodations. Resorts are tremendous for multi-gen trips as they can accommodate large group bookings. Depending on the number of people traveling, you’ll find booking a resort experience in the DR very easy.

One of the top places to stay in the DR is Punta Cana . Choose a resort like the Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana which offers a variety of rooms and suites which connect into an ample space, but still provides privacy for members of your family. Most of the larger resorts feature kids clubs for young children and teenagers which offer programs geared to specific age ranges. These include arts and crafts, sports and swimming programs.

At the main pools and the beach, you will find numerous daily activities from water aerobics, water sports, and games run by the resorts’ activity staff. For those who want to relax, check if the resort has a quiet pool where you can hide away and escape with a book. The family can split up and experience different things or hang out together and explore all that the resort can offer.

I also love the many excursions available in the Dominican Republic, from family-friendly catamaran tours , visits to Saona Island National Park, to Dune buggy rides . Of course, the family can celebrate their days and special occasions at the many resort restaurants and top it off with a spectacular show.

20. Jamaica

A beautiful sunny day in Ocho Rios in Jamaica, one of the best international family vacation destinations for multigenerational travel.

~Contributed by Charmaine, Jamaica Travel Saver

Jamaica is guaranteed to provide the ultimate family vacation and satisfy the needs of all your loved ones.   For such a small island, it packs quite a punch when it comes to activities available.

If I were to pick the most family-friendly area in Jamaica that would be the town of Ocho Rios.  Kids will like it because they can visit kid-friendly attractions such as Dolphin Cove, Mystic Mountain, Konoko falls, or Yaaman Adventure Park.   Parents will like the all-natural attractions such as Dunns River falls or the Blue Hole.  Grandparents will like the fact that they can enjoy the nearby golf course, go bamboo rafting, enjoy cooking classes, or take great house tours.

There are a variety of accommodations in Jamaica that will satisfy even the most discerning family.  However, if I were to pick one hotel, I would select Beaches Ocho Rios.

For younger kids, Beaches Ocho Rios offers a sesame street themed kid’s camp supervised by certified nannies.  For older kids, there is an Xbox play lounge, a pirate island waterpark, and a teen nightclub.  Adults will love its world-class spa, sunset catamaran cruises and access to a golf course affiliated with the hotel.   The resort also offers a wide variety of water sports.  You can also play basketball, tennis, or billiards.

The island of Aruba is a paradise for all ages and one of the top international family vacation destinations for multigenerational travel

~Contributed by Asher from Asher & Lyric

Aruba is a gorgeous little Caribbean island stretching 19 miles long and 5 miles across making it small enough to explore the entire place in just one week! Traveling here with your extended family will certainly be an amazing experience because there is something for everyone.

This gem of an island is probably best known for its brilliant white sand beaches and perfect aqua water. It’s the ideal place for a multigenerational family to relax and to have fun at the same time.

Popular activities include bungee jumping, ziplining, snorkeling, parasailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, windsurfing and just floating in the warm sea letting the world slip by.

In addition to all of the above, Aruba has a lot of modern comforts with huge grocery stores and restaurants you may be familiar with (such as the Hard Rock Cafe and Benihana) along with countless other local and ethnic options.

We recommend staying at the Hyatt Regency because it sits on almost a private part of the best beach, has great food, a two-story waterslide, casino, and luxurious suites with breathtaking views.

Galapagos Islands Expedition Cruise

The Galapagos islands, which became Ecuador’s first national park in 1959, see over 250,000 visitors yearly. You don’t have to be a fan of gorgeous ocean views, stunning wildlife, and breathtaking landscapes to enjoy all the islands offer.

For a family who wants to travel to the islands, taking an expedition cruise is the best way to see and do as much as possible in a short period. Activities in the Galapagos Islands range from snorkeling and hiking to coastal exploration, wildlife sightings, and walking through volcano trails.

Peru and Machu Picchu

Are you thinking that taking the kids on a far-flung adventure to explore Inca culture and the incredible ruinsis too unrealistic? So our very own advisor, Rebecca Hogan, embarked on her own magical journey to the country of Peru with her two young children. She noted that the best experience they had as a family was walking the grounds of Machu Picchu and learning about the historical significance of what took place there. The guides were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the kids had plenty of activities to do, including partaking in kids-friendly tours and a chocolate-making class in Cusco.

Luxury and all-inclusive resorts, swimming with whale sharks, snorkeling in the second-longest barrier reef, and exploring the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza are only a few of the adventures you could enjoy if you travel to Mexico with your family. A few popular destinations with families are Puerto Vallarta, where you can enjoy excursions like swimming with sea lions and taking thrilling canopy tours where you can zip line over the Sierra Madre Mountains.

Mexico City is also a popular destination for its vibrant city and local life, entertainment scenes, incredible dining options, interactive museums, and farms where the kids can pet animals. Take a look at our blog on the “Best Family Resorts in Mexico for Kids and Teens,” in order to make for the best family vacation in 2023.

Portugal and the Azores

Portugal is a hotspot for millions of travelers every year, and it’s no question why. This beautiful country is filled with vibrant walkways and homes, stunning vineyards stretching for miles that overlook hillside landscapes, and beaches where you can sunbathe while watching surfers riding waves. If that doesn’t excite your kids, tell them there are amazing beaches perfect for swimming and playing, stroller-friendly hikes with insanely gorgeous ocean views, and underground caves to explore. To get them even more excited, check out our “Portugal 10 Day Family Vacation Itinerary Inspiration.” One of our absolute favorite spots in Portugal is actually a hidden gem. Read about how BTA co-founder discovered the authentic side of Portugal in the Algarve and explored the magical Alentejo region.

If you want to explore even more of Portugal, venture outside the mainland and head to the Azores. This string of islands lies about 800 miles off the coast of Portugal that is jam-packed with exhilarating excursions like zip lining, snorkeling, and cruising around on a boat that explores the coast. So if you find your way to Portugal, do you and your family a favor and take the 2-hour plane ride to the Azores Islands. The adventures that Portugal will offer your family will make for the best family vacation in 2023.

Christmas Markets and River Cruises in Germany and France

Every year, thousands of people travel to Germany and France to experience the magic of European Christmas markets . They look like something out of a postcard and have been around for many centuries as a way to celebrate the start of the festive season. This is a must when it comes to the best international family vacations in 2023 around the holiday season.

We suggest making a night out of it with your family and taking your time to stroll around every vendor you can find as you get the chance to enjoy local foods and cozy drinks by the scenic backdrops. The kids will love the colorful and vibrant lights, and I’m sure they’ll find a toy or two they want to take home.

Another incredible way to make the most of the Christmas season in Europe is by taking the whole family on a river cruise. Family-friendly itineraries ensure the entire family is engaged and entertained. Christmas market cruises are guided by experts who take you to small villages, hidden gems, and under-the-radar destinations unseen by many travelers and tourists. River cruises are perfect for everyone in the family and provide a variety of fun activities that’ll keep everyone in the family busy, including castle tours, vineyard trips, and shopping out on the town.

Culture in Athens and Island Hopping in Greece

Exploring the ruins in Athens, Greece, is like taking a step back in time and diving deep into Greek’s diverse history. The city is growing around the ruins, and you and your family will have plenty of monuments, churches, museums, and parks to explore. If you are particularly fond of ancient mythology, archaeological sights, and mesmerizing history, take a few extra days to explore the mainland and sights such as Meteora and Delphi.

Once the kids have fully explored the mainland, you will be ready for some authentically Greek fun-in-the-sun adventures. Island hopping can be an excellent way for the entire family to unplug, recharge and explore the infamous coves, caves, and beaches that have made Greece one of the top destinations for international family vacations. Our Co-Founder and her niece went on the Celebrity Cruises Apex Ship Mediterranean Voyage and found themselves having the trip of a lifetime. The islands are well connected with running ferries, making it easy to hop onboard and see some of the most beautiful views as you sail by the islands. In addition, the islands are the perfect place to dive, snorkel, and play with the seashells on the beaches. Be sure to look some of the best luxury hotels throughout Greece with amazing views.

Last, but surely not least, on our list of the best international family vacations in 2023 is Iceland. Iceland has some of the world’s most jaw-dropping landscapes and views. It’s a mystical land that believes in fairytale creatures and keeping the land and water in pristine condition. This makes it one of the best countries to bring your family to. It’s one of the safest countries to travel through, and the entire family will be in absolute awe wherever they go.

Adventurous family members can hike up mountains to see towering waterfalls, ride Icelandic horses down the coast, and take a boat ride along the cliffs and beaches. However, those more inclined to explore in a relaxed and unhurried manner should spend a few days driving through the different valleys, searching for the best seafood local hotspots, and taking in the extraordinary views. The highlight of many trips to Iceland is seeing the glaciers and lagoons.

Election latest: Farage on defensive after supporters caught on camera making racist, murderous and homophobic remarks

Rishi Sunak has spoken out after a Reform UK supporter was filmed making racist comments about him - with party leader Nigel Farage forced on to the defensive. Meanwhile, Sir Keir Starmer has distanced himself from a Labour colleague's previous criticism of Donald Trump.

By Faye Brown , political reporter

Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has joked about needing a new job next week as she faces being one of the Tories' most high-profile election casualties.

The cabinet minister is projected to lose her Chichester seat in West Sussex to the Lib Dems, who are aiming to smash the so-called "blue wall" in southern England.

During a visit to a school in her constituency, Ms Keegan was asked by pupils what job she would do if she was not an MP.

"I might have to answer that question next Friday", she said.

Ms Keegan later told the PA news agency that the polls were "all over the place" and "I have never taken anything in my whole life for granted".

But her initial answer reflects the defeatist mood of some Tories as multiple polls suggest Britain's political landscape is about to be fundamentally re-drawn, with Labour  on course for a historic majority.

Ms Keegan is one of more than a dozen senior figures at risk of having a so-called "Portillo moment" - a reference to Michael Portillo, the Conservative minister who was famously unseated as Tony Blair swept to power in 1997.

Read more here:

We've got six days to go until the election - and today has been slightly quieter than some of the other days on the campaign trail.

Here's everything you need to know this evening:

  • Rishi Sunak has said the reported use of the slur "P***" by a Reform UK campaigner to describe him "hurts" and makes him "angry";
  • Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer described the comments as "racist" - but did not apply that label to Nigel Farage ;
  • Although the Reform UK leader described the comments as "very prejudiced, very wrong", he claimed that the undercover reporting by Channel 4 was a "stitch up" - something the broadcaster completely rejects;
  • The campaigner who made the comment, Andrew Parker, called himself a "total fool" and said he has learned his lesson;
  • However, Essex Police said they are "urgently assessing" whether any offences were committed by Mr Parker and another canvasser who made homophobic comments.
  • A new MRP poll  predicted the Tories will crash to just 85 seats - with Labour winning a whopping 470 seats and becoming the largest party in Scotland for the first time in over a decade;
  • Data from the Electoral Commission  showed that the unions finally opened their chequebooks to Labour, giving nearly £2m in week three of the campaign (£3.3m in total) - while the Tories raised just £275,000;
  • Junior doctors in Wales  have accepted a pay offer from the Welsh administration there;
  • Rylan Clark revealed the changes he would make to the political system;
  • Education Secretary Gillian Keegan admitted no poll was showing a good outcome for the Conservatives;
  • And Conservative candidate and former defence secretary Sir Liam Fox  refused to rule out putting himself forward as caretaker Tory leader after the election if the Tories lose and Rishi Sunak resigns.

Follow along for the very latest from the campaign trail with less than a week until polling day.

Parliament "always has the opportunity" to re-examine the rules on betting for politicians, Rishi Sunak has said, following calls for a ban similar to that for footballers.

The prime minister said gambling on elections was "not something I would do" as he argued the immediate priority was to establish any wrongdoing.

He also repeated his threat to "boot" people out of the Conservative Party found to have broken the rules.

Mr Sunak made his comments in response to the ongoing gambling scandal that has engulfed the Tory campaign and added to his election woes.

Five Conservatives have so far been caught up in the inquiry  by the Gambling Commission, although reports suggest the figure could be 15 parliamentary candidates and officials, although the watchdog has not confirmed the numbers involved.

At least seven Metropolitan Police officers are also being investigated.

A Reform UK canvasser who used a racial slur against Rishi Sunak has called himself a "total fool" and said he has learned his lesson.

Footage from an undercover Channel 4 reporter showed Reform campaigner Andrew Parker using a discriminatory term about the prime minister, as well as saying the army should "just shoot" migrants crossing the Channel.

Police are now assessing the comments to establish if an offence has been committed, while Mr Sunak said the insult directed at him "hurts and it makes me angry".

Mr Parker, who was canvassing in Clacton, where Reform leader Nigel Farage is standing, told Sky News the sting operation had "proper taught me a lesson".

He said: "There's lots of old people like me who are sick to death of this woke agenda… but on that particular day, I was set up and set up good and proper.

"It's proper taught me a lesson - I was a total fool."

Nigel Farage was challenged on BBC Question Time on why he has not suspended candidates who are widely reported to have made racist or other offensive comments.

The Reform UK leader blamed a vetting company, but host Fiona Bruce stopped him and said the comments are in the public domain, in newspapers and on the internet.

He replied that he "inherited a start-up party" and that "most" candidates reported to have made offensive comments "have been disowned".

Asked why some of those accused ended up as candidates in the first place, he replied that he has "no idea" - to laughter from the audience.

He repeated that he inherited the party, meaning he was not the leader when many of these candidates were selected.

He was then asked by an audience member if he will take responsibility, "stop making excuses", and apologise.

"I'm not going to apologise," Mr Farage replied, to a smattering of applause, and repeated that the racist comments reported to have been made by an activist in his office was a "set up".

Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, is facing questions on a BBC Question Time leaders' special this evening, and he was asked firstly: "What is it about you and your party that attracts racists and extremists, whether you say you want them or not?"

The question got a loud round of applause and cheers from the audience.

Mr Farage replied that he has "done more to drive the far-right out of the British politics than anyone else alive" - to a few scoffs in the audience.

He said he "took on the BNP" and has never allowed extremists to join his parties.

Addressing the Channel 4 report that showed Reform activists in his own office making racist remarks about PM and homophobic remarks, Mr Farage said: "What happened over that last weekend was truly astonishing.

"A tirade of invective abuse directed at the prime minister - I mean, the whole thing was unbelievable."

But Mr Farage went on to say that it "didn't ring true", and claimed that the activist filmed in his office calling Rishi Sunak a "P***" was a plant of some kind.

"Let me tell you, from the minute he turned up in that office in Clacton and I saw him, he was acting from the very start."

Mr Farage continued to double-down when pushed, claiming that this was a "political set up of astonishing proportions".

"I want nothing to do with people like him and he has nothing to do with us. He's somebody who turned up. We didn't know who he was."

A spokesperson for Channel 4 News said: "We strongly stand by our rigorous and duly impartial journalism which speaks for itself.

"We met Mr Parker for the first time at Reform UK party headquarters, where he was a Reform party canvasser.

"We did not pay the Reform UK canvasser or anyone else in this report. Mr Parker was not known to Channel 4 News and was filmed covertly via the undercover operation."

One of the Green Party co-leaders is facing questions on a BBC Question Time leaders' special this evening, and he was asked about his party's migration policy.

Specifically, an audience member asked Adrian Ramsay how his party will have such an expansive and open migration policy, with immigrants being able to bring dependents, while ensuring that public services work properly.

Mr Ramsay said that it is "absolutely right and humane" that people coming to work in the UK be able to bring their spouse.

"I think we need to have a calm discussion in this country about how we approach the issue of migration, because we have always benefitted from people coming to the UK," he added, getting applause from the audience.

"We only have to listen to the horrific comments that were exposed on Channel 4 last night of people immediately around Nigel Farage to remind ourselves of what a stark future we could be heading in if people back him and Reform in this election," he said of the racist and homophobic comments made by party activists.

The Green Party website talks about "a world without borders", and Mr Ramsay is asked exactly what that would mean and look like.

But he dodged the question, saying it is a "long-term vision" and is there to talk about the manifesto for this election.

"It's not something we think is realistic in this next five years," he said, and would not get a timeframe when asked.

Britain could soon have its most diverse parliament ever but how will voters from ethnically diverse communities behave at the ballot box?

The voting trends of such groups are incredibly complex and varied. There is no single narrative but several themes stick out from YouGov's exclusive polling for Sky News.

Most notably, the handling of the conflict in the Middle East has damaged the two major parties in the eyes of British Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities. This is something the Labour Party, in particular, is very sensitive too.

Labour have historically fared well with these voters and 53% of ethnic minority voters we polled said they would vote for the party - that's a greater lead than polls we've done with the general population.

However, the Tories fare worse among ethnic minority voters on the whole - in this poll they are neck and neck with the Green Party at 14%.

But, if we drill into the detail, 32% of British Indians said they would vote Conservative - 12% higher than the general population. This is a good reminder that there is a huge variation in voting trends among communities.

Reform UK polled much worse with ethnically diverse communities than the population at large - they're on 7% - but they're still one point above the Lib Dems.

That concludes tonight's edition of Politics Hub With Ali Fortescue - scroll down to read through tonight's interviews and analysis.

Our next guest on Politics Hub With Ali Fortescue  is Claire Ainsley, Director of the Project on Center-Left Renewal at the Progressive Policy Institute, and former adviser to Sir Keir Starmer.

We discuss what the US-UK relationship could look like under a potential Labour government and a possible Trump presidency.

She replies that the shadow foreign secretary, David Lammy, has been "at pains" to build relationships across the Atlantic, and "all of the shadow foreign affairs team have really been out and present, not just in obviously a North America, but around the world".

He says: "I think there's definitely a readiness, on the part of other governments, to be able to have somewhat of a reset [with] the UK.

"So I think in the end, the US-UK relationship is going to be extremely important. And actually it's about common interests and the primarily that will be in the first instance about backing for NATO and obviously for Ukraine."

We bring in our panel, and former Labour cabinet minister Ben Bradshaw says: "I don't think it's any secret that probably most Labour people - actually most members of the current government -  would rather work with a Democrat president than with a Trump [presidency].

"But you deal with whoever the American people deliver as president."

Should Sir Keir Starmer win the election, he will have a steep learning curve, with multiple international summits scheduled for immediately after polling day.

But Ms Ainsley says he is "ready".

"You can just see in Keir Starmer that he is ready to be prime minister if that's what the voters decide next week.

From relaxing escapes with your infant to deep cultural immersions upon college graduation, here are travel ideas for families with children at any stage.

Once a traveler, always a traveler. There are folks who believe a baby doesn't have to change a thing about a couple's lifestyle, and others who subscribe to the exact opposite theory. But all can agree on one thing: Those who loved traveling before expanding their family likely dream of continuing to explore the world, little ones in tow. One of the most exciting parts of having children, after all, is the way they enrich and amplify almost every experience. Then, of course, there's the awe-inspiring discovery that goes along with watching curious youngsters see and try new things, from delicious foods to beautiful cultures.

Knowing which places around the globe are most appropriate for kids as they grow into and out of different phases can be tough to anticipate. And yes, it's more daunting to fly or contend with jet lag at certain ages. It's true, too, that as little ones become big, trips become more expensive. But all the challenges are far outweighed by the collective joy that's possible on a family vacation, especially one tailored to the brood's developmental stage and interests.

Here, with the help of a few travel experts, we break it down by age group, pairing each with a dreamy destination for exposure to the wondrous world and maximum family fun.

Infants (Ages 0-1): A Mexican Beach Resort

You'll hear it from every parent: Travel while your baby is just that — a baby — because it'll never be easier. Once they start walking, all bets are off. True, you're likely sleep deprived, but doesn't that make it the perfect time to hop on a short flight to Mexico for some R&R and vitamin D?

When planning a first vacation with an infant, Indagare CEO and founder Melissa Biggs Bradley says, "You'll want a warm location with a direct flight, a big beach since infants are still too young to enjoy a kids club, and easy access to good medical care in case of an ear infection or anything more serious."

Expect to bring way too much gear, but don't worry — any parent will empathize. A family-friendly resort in a development like the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita (for West Coasters) or Rosewood Mayakoba (for East Coasters) is a great bet since they'll happily provide the comforts of home (think: crib, mini fridge for milk, high chair, baby bathtub, or diaper pail), meaning you can focus your packing around sun protection and adorable tropical ensembles for your baby. They're also likely to offer babysitting services, in case you'd like to have dinner one night after 7 p.m. As for the new parent exhaustion, a soft, sandy beach is an idyllic place to catch up on Zs, for all of you. There's a reason sound machines come with a blue noise option — the gentle lapping of waves could lull anyone right to sleep.

Toddlers (Ages 1-4): The Island of Hawai'i

To a toddler, there's excitement to be found everywhere. They're like mini explorers, captivated by virtually every landscape and situation. Young kids who have just discovered the freedom of walking, running, and swimming will find pure magic in the Hawaiian islands. The coral reefs, beautiful beaches , Polynesian culture, soulful storytelling, near-perfect weather, and wildlife such as dolphins, whales, and sea turtles hold plenty of appeal for adults, yes, but also for toddlers.

The island of Hawai'i, specifically, offers a diversity of stunning environments, from stark and surreal lava flows to lush waterfalls, as well as resorts with little to no crowds. Mauna Lani , part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, with its ancient royal fishponds, outrigger canoes, and calm beach, exemplifies the family-forward approach. Their Holoholo Kids Crew offers thoughtful programming (think: crab hunting, Hawaiian language lessons, petroglyph walks, and natural dyeing, stamping, and feather art). And while it's designed for ages five to 12, three and four year olds can also attend with their parents (a great excuse for grown-ups to experience all the fun, too). Uncle Danny, the resort's cultural gatekeeper whose domain is the vibrant "house of knowledge," is wonderful with children.

"Many Hawaii resorts have protected ponds where you can take your toddlers into the ocean," says Biggs Bradley. "You can enjoy whale-watching cruises, and, in their later toddler years, they'll appreciate learning about the wildlife, maybe attend lei-making classes, or just relaxing by the pool or on the beach."

Elementary School (Ages 5-10): Rome, Italy

Once your kids have reached school age, they begin to hear a little more about the world around them. Basic elementary school lessons typically include ancient Rome, the Colosseum , and gladiators, says Biggs Bradley, so a trip to Rome "will further engage them in the touring, since what they've learned in school will be brought to life."

There are countless exciting activities available for kiddos, and even picky eaters will find something they love in the boot-shaped country known for pizza, pasta, and gelato. "Pizza- and gelato-making experiences are a must," says Access Italy CEO Simone Amorico, who adds that kids love making ceramics and mosaics, too. He says other can't-miss activities include, "treasure hunts in the Vatican and the Villa Borghese, where they can also ride a four-wheel bike and stop for picnics."

Meanwhile, the fairytale-like Hotel Eden is an ideal base for Roman excursions, and it's not far from Teatro Verde, a theater for puppet shows and musicals, the Explora Children's Museum, and Bartolucci, a traditional wooden toy shop where you can find Pinocchio. "At this age, a typical family tour can be boring, as they tune out and can't wait to leave," says Scott Dunn USA president John Spence. "We had our kids attend a Roman gladiator school so they could gain hands-on lessons in fighting techniques and reenact life as an ancient gladiator — they loved it."

Tweens (Ages 11-13): A Montana Dude Ranch

Between the ages of 11 and 13, kids, or tweens, will likely want some autonomy, but they also need boundaries. A dude ranch or guest ranch encompassing hundreds of acres of pristine, wide-open space makes for a wonderful compromise.

"When kids are in their early teenage years, there is nothing better than a vacation that combines adventure with something new," says Spence. "Watching our kids step outside of their element — horseback riding on mountainside cliffs or even just hiking in the beautiful Montana nature — is one of the best parts of being a parent."

Visiting a 10-square-mile property like The Ranch at Rock Creek — with a slew of included activities like fly fishing, cross-country mountain biking, photography classes, sapphire mining, and horse roping lessons — is quite a novelty for many families. Most kids, however unique their interests, will be able to find something they are stoked about. The younger ones can also attend Flint's Forest Rangers Kids Club (ages four to 12), which offers pre-booked excursions such as wildlife spotting and treasure hunting. Families can come together in the property's western-style bar for bowling, table tennis, and karaoke, too.

And perhaps the best part about Montana, home to dozens of guest ranches, is that it's gorgeous and fun year-round. It's a winter wonderland worthy of a snow globe and, at The Ranch at Rock Creek, cold-weather options include skiing (downhill and cross-country), sledding, ice skating, hockey, and snowmobiling. Expect smiles 24/7.

Teenagers (Ages 14-17): An African Safari

"It is all about the thrill of experiencing something so different from what they've ever seen before," says Extraordinary Journeys ' founder and CEO Elizabeth Gordon of taking the kids on an African safari.

Biggs Bradley adds, "Safaris are a huge area of passion for me, and I was eager to open my kids' eyes to them when they were young. The sweet spot to take children on their first safari is after 14 because by then you can ensure they will really remember the experience. They'll be able to sit in a vehicle for long periods of time and likely won't be nervous about sleeping in a tent." Plus, many camps also don't allow kids under 12 years old.

A safari is a special experience for a family to encounter together, witnessing an exciting array of animals in their natural habitat — not to mention beautiful traditions and cultures, too. "An amazing guide will teach [the kids] about tracking, get them to think like a detective, and figure out what may have happened in the area by looking at footprints," says Gordon.

As Biggs Bradley says of Kenya, "Cultural exchange is key. The opportunity for kids to meet and interact with Maasai people, for example, can be an incredibly memorable part." Properties like Sirikoi , Basecamp Explorer 's circuit, and Angama Mara provide beautiful immersion along with amazing sightings of the world's rarest species.

Another perk? Since Wi-Fi is often sparse or unavailable, families can unplug from technology and simply enjoy being together out in the bush. For even more adventure, consider adding on gorilla trekking in Rwanda (the pricier option) or Uganda (more affordable), especially if doing a safari in nearby Kenya.

College (Ages 18-21): Queenstown, New Zealand

Once kids have gone off to college, it can take a pretty enticing offer to pull them back into the fold for family vacations. Queenstown, New Zealand, is one such attractive proposition. Known as the "adventure capital of the world," it's the kind of all-season destination that offers a scene for everyone — plus, English is the main language spoken.

The birthplace of bungee jumping is home to countless thrills, from exhilarating jumps ( AJ Hackett Bungy from the Kawarau Bridge is the classic choice) to parasailing on bright blue Lake Wakatipu. "Families will love helicopter flights over the Tasman Glacier and along Milford Sound on a sunny winter day, or careening around the bends of the Shotover Canyon on a jet boat in the summer," says Gordon of this "quintessential playground."

For anyone who's not quite as much an adrenaline junkie, there are many hiking — known there as tramping — trails that reveal jaw-dropping panoramas. "New Zealand is a dream destination for a family who loves nature, landscapes, and, of course, adventure," says Biggs Bradley, adding that skydiving, rafting, caving, and fly fishing are also draws.

In the winter, Queenstown's mountains are home to epic skiing and snowboarding. The town itself is walkable and safe, with plenty of places to enjoy a sundowner, lovely meal, or the nightlife. With the kids becoming adults (and the local drinking age being 18), there's also the option to take a day for wine tasting at some of the island country's top vineyards in the Central Otago region about 45 minutes away by car.

To allow your young adults some freedom, try a couple rooms at the boutique QT Queenstown , which is full of art, quirk, and large windows showcasing the Remarkables mountain range and Lake Wakatipu.

College Graduates (Age 22 and Up): Japan

By the time they've graduated college, many young adults will be ready to dive, respectfully, into a culture as exquisite as Japan's. "Japan is a country you want to travel to when you know your family will truly be able to appreciate what it has to offer," says Biggs Bradley, pointing out the opportunity for deep cultural immersion in food and drink, museums, temples, and shrines.

In a place where there's a fine art to everything from making tea and arranging flowers to lighting incense, it's best to ensure all parties are prepared to be well-behaved and gracious guests. A more mature — or adventurous — palate is also helpful for fully enjoying all of Japan's culinary treasures. Spence calls it "the perfect place for post-graduates who want new experiences," and Japan certainly excels at providing those.

Tokyo is a dynamic urban center where exploration yields unimaginable exploits. A different energy pervades Kyoto's quieter neighborhoods of Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, bamboo forests, and famous geisha districts. ( InsideJapan offers wonderful private tours led by local experts.) "Our kids loved trains, making the bullet train around Japan one of the best parts of the trip," says Spence.

Getting around is indeed a no-brainer — trains and buses are always precisely on time, people are friendly and willing to help despite language barriers, and there are many appealing regions (prefectures) with special attributes, such as places known for sake, hot springs (onsen), and art.

Staying in a traditional ryokan is a must, and the fourth-generation Japanese-owned Hoshinoya portfolio includes several luxury options. One of the most memorable additions to the cities, however, is a couple of days near Mount Fuji, where Hoshinoya Fuji offers spectacular views of the elusive volcano alongside exceptional local cuisine and rugged outdoorsy activities, including a food smoking workshop, canoeing, and e-biking. At the end of the day, there's no better place for a globe-trotting family to relax and share stories than around a bonfire under the stars, with live acoustic music, s'mores, and Japanese whisky.
