The tour kicks off on October 4 in Lexington, Ky., before making its way through cities like Nashville, Tempe and Orlando before wrapping up on October 25 in Las Vegas. While Carter will be honoring his Backstreet Boys pop roots, fans can also expect to see a new side of the singer.

“I’m going to go out with a band, and I play guitar. I’m going to be playing drums throughout the show. So, it has a bit more creative personal expression and is a little bit more organic, I guess you could say,” he says of how his tour differs from a BSB run, before sharing the “surprising” songs he hopes to add into the setlist. “There’s no walls for me when it comes to music,” Carter says with a laugh. “One of the songs I really want to do is Simple Mind’s ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ from The Breakfast Club and another one I want to do is Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead or Alive.’ I’m actually going to do some rap because I grew up listening to rap music. I’m gonna tear up some rap and do my own East Coast versus West Coast!”

Carter’s Who I Am tour comes at a particularly poignant time in the superstar’s life. In November, his younger brother and fellow pop star Aaron Carter died at age 34 after he drowned in the bathtub at his home in Lancaster, Calif., after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam. His cause of death was deemed accidental .

“It’s been a very rough year for me and my family and losing my brother is still something that I’m processing,” Nick shares. Following Aaron’s death, Nick and his sister Angel launched a donation fund in their late brother’s memory to benefit On Our Sleeves , which advocates to break the stigma surrounding mental health and provides children’s mental health resources to families and teachers nationwide.

“You try to find ways to cope with the things that are being thrown at you in life. Leaning into anything philanthropic or charitable, it makes it about something bigger than yourself,” Nick says of his past few months. “When my sister and I [launched the donation fund], I think that was the only way we were able to process what we’ve been going through. It’s become about how can we turn what we’ve been feeling into something that can hopefully help somebody else, and then we can learn from it and then somebody else can learn from it.”

“I love my brother. He’s my baby brother and I love him. Losing him, it’s been really hard,” he adds, before taking time to offer some advice for those also going through the loss of a loved one. “You just have to take life as it comes and learn from it and, most importantly, just know that you’re not alone.”

As for now, Nick says that the Who I Am tour has provided a much welcomed beam of light in a particularly tumultuous year. “I’m a musician. I’m an artist. I’m a performer, but I’m also a human first,” he explains. “Music is therapeutic to me and we all find ways to manage the things that we’re going through in life. Getting out there and performing for fans and just being who I am — it’ll help me during this this time.”

Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter Announces Solo Tour

by Jon Mendelsohn July 17, 2023, 11:17 am

Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter has recently opened up to Billboard about his upcoming solo tour, which has been dubbed the Who I Am 2023 Tour. It will mark Carter’s first solo tour in seven years.

Videos by American Songwriter

Carter’s tour will begin on October 4 with a show in Lexington, Kentucky. The brief tour will come to an end on October 25 with a concert in Las Vegas. Throughout the tour, Carter will play gigs in Nashville, Tampa, and Tempe.

“I was born in 1980 and there was a lot of music that influenced me throughout the years to be one of the members of the Backstreet Boys,” Carter told Billboard . “So, I’m going to perform a lot of songs that I love.”

Carter later explained that he is going to take on many roles throughout the tour. “I’m going to go out with a band, and I play guitar,” he said. “I’m going to be playing drums throughout the show. So, it has a bit more creative personal expression and is a little bit more organic, I guess you could say.

“There’s no walls for me when it comes to music,” Carter continued.

Carter has faced tragedy recently with the passing of his brother, Aaron Carter, who drowned in his bathtub last year at the age of 34. “It’s been a very rough year for me and my family and losing my brother is still something that I’m processing… I love my brother. He’s my baby brother and I love him. Losing him, it’s been really hard. You just have to take life as it comes and learn from it and, most importantly, just know that you’re not alone.”

Carter also addressed the serious allegations held against him by former Dream singer Melissa Schuman. Schuman filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against Carter earlier this year. In regard to the legal situation. “I’m a really strong believer in the legal system,” he said. “I’m confident that justice will be served in the end, and I actually look forward to speaking about it more when it’s all over.”

Tickets for Carter’s upcoming tour will be on sale starting July 21 . A complete set of dates are below:

Oct. 4 – Singletary Center for the Arts – Lexington, KY Oct. 5 – The Family Arena – St. Charles, MO Oct. 7 – Schermerhorn Symphony Center – Nashville, TN Oct. 8 – The Classic Center Theatre – Athens, GA Oct. 9 – Harbison Theatre – Irmo, SC Oct. 11 – Shaftman Performance Hall Jefferson Center – Roanoke, VA Oct. 13 – Wilson Center – Wilmington, NC Oct. 15 – Walt Disney Theater at Dr. Phillips Center – Orlando, FL Oct. 17 – Pompano Beach Amphitheater – Pompano Beach, FL Oct. 19 – Curtis M. Nick Carter, originally from Backstreet Boys is still doing his thing as a singer songwriter. He has released two solo albums to date, “Now Or Never” and “I’m Taking Off”. I’ve got to give credit where it’s due and I can definitely confirm that this singer songwriter still has a fantastic voice. Tonight, he is performing work from his album “I’m Taking Off”. This is quite a “different performance to watch. The theatrics are like none I have ever seen before. Carter walks onstage as though he is an astronaut with all the gear on him ready to go, the audience are in absolute hysteria. They scream all the way through his set. One of my favourite things about his set is that he is performing with a live band playing a PRS electric guitar. His opening song “I’m Taking Off” is a huge pop rock song that is pretty close to “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi in terms of the huge hooks that draw you in as a listener. “Blow Your Mind” is another song similar to “I’m Taking Off”, that is essentially driven by guitars throughout, but of course it features some huge hooks.

About Nick Carter

Sparking his career at the age of 12 years old, Nick Carter became an international pop superstar as the youngest member of iconic boy band, Backstreet Boys. Carter’s 23-year entertainment career has spanned far beyond the stages of sold-out arenas, with an array of projects in television and film, as well as a philanthropist and author.

To date, the Backstreet Boys are the best-selling boy band in history and are one of the world’s best-selling music artists of all time. In 2002, Carter released his debut solo album, Now or Never, through Jive Records, which debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified Gold in the U.S., Japan and Canada.

This debut marked the beginning of a successful solo career alongside his Backstreet Boys fame, with Carter releasing three studio albums to date. Throughout the years, Nick has remained a beloved figure in popular culture, touring with the Backstreet Boys for their “DNA World Tour” beginning in April 2022 and now setting off on his solo “Who I Am” Tour in 2023.

Nick Carter Takes Fans on a Journey Through the ’80s with his ‘Who I Am’ Tour

Nick Carter (Photo credit: Brian Doherty)

Nick Carter is on the road solo for his “Who I Am” Tour, a show that carries fans through a personal journey with recognizable songs from the ’80s and early ’90s, Backstreet Boys hits, and tracks from Carter’s solo albums.

I recently attended the show at the Wilson Center in Wilmington, NC, just one of many stops in the “Who I Am” Tour, and it was one heck of a good time. Every performance was energetic and felt like a love letter to fans just as much as it showcased Carter’s own journey.

He even talked quite a bit about how much it meant to connect with fans in such a personal way.

The concept behind the show itself is brilliant. It incorporates music from the year he was born up until the time he first met the Backstreet Boys in the early ’90s, along with the Backstreet Boys songs and solo tracks. It traces his entire life and the 30 years he’s been a performer.

Nick Carter "Who I Am" Tour -- October 13, 2023, Wilson Center in Wilmington NC (Photo credit: Frances Bissette / Eulalie Magazine)

Doing this kept the audience excited throughout the show, and mixing in the kinds of songs from the ’80s and early ’90s that everyone could sing along to was a great way for Carter to showcase his many talents.

There was plenty of singing and dancing, and he also played guitar along with a full band, showing he could rock just as much as he could sing a tender love ballad. There were even a few costume changes.

Carter began the show with “Larger than Life” by the Backstreet Boys , then followed with familiar ’80s covers “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and, after throwing on a pair of sunglasses, “Sunglasses at Night.” Every cover felt organic and natural, with Carter throwing himself soulfully into every performance.

The singer stated ahead of the tour that one of his goals was to create new memories with fans, and he certainly did that during this show. He also previewed that there would be a few surprises , and well, he wasn’t kidding.

Perhaps one of the most surprising moments of the night was when Carter belted out “You Shook Me All Night Long,” by AC/DC , genuinely capturing the raspy, high-pitched singing style of Brian Johnson.  As I said, Carter was really showing off his many talents!

Other songs included “Get Over Me” from his third solo album, All American , “With or Without You” by U2, “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi, and “I Want it That Way” by the Backstreet Boys , among others.

For a few songs, he offered personal feelings and anecdotes.

Before singing Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry,” for example, he asked the audience to listen carefully to the lyrics. “Sometimes you wanna say something, but you just can’t say it, but you can say it through a song,” Carter said.

And before performing “Sharp Dressed Man,” he described his first time seeing ZZ Top on TV. He was a young boy watching the MTV Music Awards. “These three guys in these really long beards came on,” he recalled, “And I think they scared the entire stage.”

As part of a segment dedicated entirely to love songs, Carter sang “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx. He then shared that he performed a Richard Marx song for his audition to be in the Backstreet Boys , which got him the gig. So, this was a bit of an ode to Marx.

Carter’s most emotional moment of the night was his performance of one of “Hurts to Love You,” a single released early this year, a few months after the death of his brother, Aaron Carter.

“As time has gone by and we’ve gone through life together, and things have happened to all of us, we share those stories together,” Carter said. “Through music, you hear other peoples’ stories as well. And this song right here is a very important song that I have written recently. So I hope you like it.”

His performance of this song was deeply powerful and heartfelt, with the song itself being full of raw emotion.

Carter also performed an upcoming single, “Made for Us,” and his most recently released single, “Superman,” which fans were already more than capable of singing along to.

However, one of the best fan moments was at the end of the night, when Carter performed “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”

It was not only a fun and energetic way to end the night, but it was one that truly got the audience involved. The entire crowd was able to do the fan chant at the beginning of the song, and the feeling in the room was one of real camaraderie.

The evening was truly unforgettable. And even though Carter shared the history of his 30 years performing, in a lot of ways, it feels like the singer is just getting started.

The latest documentary, Fallen Idols, explores the allegations against him. Currently, Nick Carter is on tour and has already performed in over 60 cities.

Style Caster reported that Nick Carter is recording music and performing in several cities. He began his Who I Am tour in 2023 and performed in over 60 venues. Per his official website , Carter is set to perform in places such as Paris, Zurich, Denmark, Amsterdam, and more in the coming weeks.

Moreover, two weeks ago, the singer-songwriter uploaded a photo on his official Instagram account and showed his studio. In the picture, he can be seen with his children while posing for the camera. He captioned the photo , “Brought the kids to the studio. Odin met his favorite artists.”

As far as the sexual assault cases are concerned, three women have accused him of rape and sexual assault and went to court against him.

Where does Nick Carter live now & who is his wife?

Nick Carter met his wife, Lauren Kitt, in 2009. Carter’s siblings Aaron and Angel knew Kitt and introduced her to Carter during a movie night at the musician’s home. TODAY reported that Nick Carter proposed to her four years after since their introduction, and she said yes. The couple welcomed their first child in 2016 and gave birth to two more children in 2019 and 2021.

Sparking his career at the age of 12 years old, NICK CARTER  became an international pop superstar as the youngest member of iconic boy band, Backstreet Boys. Carter’s 30-year entertainment career has spanned far beyond the stages of sold-out arenas, with an array of projects in television and film, as well as a philanthropist and author.

Throughout the years, Nick has remained a beloved figure in popular culture, touring with the Backstreet Boys for their “DNA World Tour” beginning in April 2022 and now setting off on his solo “Who I Am” Tour in 2023, which will follow the release of his new music.

"Going after their accusers": "Fallen Idols" producers on Nick Carter and backlash against #MeToo

is nick carter still on tour

To believe or not to believe. That is the question. It sits squarely at the heart of "Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter," Investigation Discovery's docuseries that delves into sexual assault allegations made against Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter through interviews with his accusers. Key among those participants is Melissa Schuman, who was a member of the late '90s and early aughts girl group Dream as a teenager. In 2017, at the height of the #MeToo movement, Schuman published a blog post claiming that Carter had raped her at his...

Will Ohio State’s dream offseason lead to Ryan Day signing the No. 1 recruiting class?

WEST LAFAYETTE, INDIANA - OCTOBER 14: Head coach Ryan Day of the Ohio State Buckeyes takes the field before the game against the Purdue Boilermakers at Ross-Ade Stadium on October 14, 2023 in West Lafayette, Indiana. (Photo by Justin Casterline/Getty Images)

The college football world has gotten to see Ohio State ’s brand at its best this offseason.

After a disappointing end to the 2023 season, the Buckeyes turned around any downward momentum the program might have had. They returned 11 draft-eligible starters from last year’s team, including potential 2025 first-round picks Emeka Egbuka , JT Tuimoloau and Denzel Burke .

On top of that, they brought in seven transfers, headlined by high-impact players like Alabama safety Caleb Downs , Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins , Kansas State quarterback Will Howard and the No. 1 quarterback in the 2024 recruiting class, Julian Sayin , who originally signed with Alabama.

But now, what Ryan Day and the Buckeyes are doing in the 2025 recruiting cycle is more important for the future of the program — and arguably more impressive.

go-deeper

How Ohio State won the college football offseason with a new NIL approch

When Day took the podium to address reporters on Feb. 7, he was insistent that the Buckeyes would continue to be aggressive in the transfer portal to fill yearly holes. That’s the way college athletics is going now, and with everybody aligned on the NIL front , the Buckeyes are poised to be one of the most enticing transfer destinations for years to come.

But Day, who is entering his sixth season as head coach, was also adamant the program would not turn its back on high school recruiting.

“We always want to recruit high school players and develop them,” Day said. “I think we’re doing that as good as anybody in the country.”

Ohio State has carried over its winter momentum to the summer high school recruiting months. The Buckeyes have the top-ranked class in the 2025 cycle in the 247Sports Composite , with commitments from three five-star prospects. After receiver Quincy Porter picked the Buckeyes on Friday, nine of the 15 commitments are ranked in the top 100 .

Having a top class in the summer is nothing new to the Buckeyes. Midway through last April, Ohio State took the top spot from Georgia and was putting together what seemed to be an elite defensive line class until Justin Scott flipped to Miami, top edge rusher Dylan Stewart chose South Carolina and four-star Marquise Lightfoot chose Miami . The Buckeyes ultimately finished fifth in the 2024 class rankings.

This year feels different. It’s hard to be certain when dealing with recruiting, but the momentum Ohio State has had since losing in the Cotton Bowl should give fans optimism that a potentially historic class will hold together.

No position better illustrates Ohio State’s recruiting momentum than the secondary.

Ohio State has paired the top cornerback, Devin Sanchez, with the No. 2 corner, Na’eem Offord. Both are five-stars and top-10 overall prospects. At safety, Ohio State got a commitment last Sunday from No. 2 safety Faheem Delane to join four-star DeShawn Stewart and three-star Cody Haddad.

It could be the second consecutive year Ohio State has signed a five-star corner, after Aaron Scott was ranked No. 6 at the position in the 2024 class. The last time the Buckeyes signed two five-star corners in the same class was Jeff Okudah and Shaun Wade in 2017. That was also the last time any program had the two top corners in the same class.

If both Sanchez and Offord sign and hold their five-star billing, Ohio State will have accomplished that feat twice, something no other program has done in the 247Sports Composite rankings dating back to 2000. (Alabama did sign three of the top five corners in the 2024 cycle, though.)

“I think if they can get those two, it could be the top cornerback tandem in the modern recruiting era,” said Andrew Ivins, the director of scouting at 247Sports.

Behind the scenes, Ivins said, there have been debates about who is the top corner in the country. Sanchez has the lead and showed off why at Overtime’s 7-on-7 championships.

“It was an unreal performance in the sense of it was exactly how that type of prospect should look in a best-on-best setting,” Ivins said. “He’s 6-foot-2, he has the foot speed but I think he’s super fluid and comfortable in off man coverage. He baits quarterbacks into bad decisions.”

Sanchez been impressing for a long time. When he arrived at North Shore High School in Houston, he opened coach Willie Gaston’s eyes with his competitiveness on Day 1. He earned a starting spot by his sophomore year.

“He made plays. You could see how comfortable he was at playing press man,” Gaston said. “He got tested a lot, but he had a short memory. He never hung his head, he just wanted to compete.”

is nick carter still on tour

Still, Offord, from Parker High School in Birmingham, Ala., is right on his heels.

“Na’eem is a little bit bigger, but he’s everything you want in that position,” Ivins said. “He’s physical and can get the football.”

Ohio State is going to have to work to keep these two together. Sanchez seems like as much of a lock as you can get in recruiting, but Offord is being heavily pursued still by Auburn . He’s expected to visit Ohio State on June 21, though he went on a visit to Auburn on May 31. If the Buckeyes can pair them together, they’ll have something special.

A lot of credit for this jump in secondary recruiting goes to cornerbacks coach Tim Walton . Since his arrival at Ohio State in 2022, he’s not only helped the on-field product, but he’s also had a hand in recruiting Ole Miss transfer Davison Igbinosun , the talented 2024 class of Scott, Bryce West and Miles Lockhart and adding Downs from Alabama this winter.

go-deeper

How has Tim Walton transformed Ohio State's secondary? It's all about relationships

Walton is one of the best recruiters in the country right now, though this class’ historic potential isn’t just driven by corners. Delane was a massive addition at safety. He’s a 6 feet 3 and has versatility to play in the box, as a high safety or even in the slot at times. Andy Stefanelli, his coach at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Maryland, said he moves him around on purpose, because Delane can make plays everywhere. It makes him a perfect fit for coordinator Jim Knowles’ defense, he said.

“That is something that attracted Jim to Faheem, and conversely Faheem to Ohio State, is the defense,” Stefanelli said. “We ask Faheem to do a lot of things. That probably made the evaluation easier because he’s already doing things we’re gonna want him to do in high school.”

Throw in Stewart, and Ohio State already has a secondary class most schools could only dream of.

“If he’s your fourth DB, it’s an elite haul,” Ivins said.

But there’s one uncommitted player still looming: Trey McNutt, the top-ranked safety in the class from Shaker Heights outside of Cleveland. He already visited Florida and USC this summer and has visits on the books for Texas A&M and Oregon too. While a visit to Ohio State hasn’t been announced yet, the Buckeyes will be in the running. McNutt’s father, Richard, won a national championship with the Buckeyes in 2002.

If Ohio State lands McNutt, it will have commitments from the top two safeties and corners in the same class, a feat nobody has accomplished in the online recruiting rankings era.

There are a few reasons for that type of success. Again, Walton is recruiting at a high level, but he also has film he can point to for recruits to prove what they’re doing works. And the loss of Nick Saban has shifted the college football recruiting landscape, especially in the South. Ohio State is taking advantage.

The Buckeyes could become the first non-SEC team to get the top player out of Alabama since Clemson signed Justyn Ross in 2018.

In many ways, Ohio State’s success in recruiting talented and versatile defensive backs is reminiscent of what Saban did for so many years at Alabama. The Crimson Tide recruited well at every position, but they were especially well positioned in the secondary because of Saban’s track record there.

“Offord seems like a program trying to capitalize on a state that is undergoing changes with Saban retiring,” Ivins said. “That’s opportunistic recruiting to me.”

Though the secondary stands out, the entire class shows Ohio State executing its recruiting plan to perfection. It’s benefitted from a strong in-state class, and it has won battles in keeping outside powers from coming in and taking Ohio talent.

The Buckeyes landed four-star tackle Carter Lowe, the nation’s No. 7 offensive tackle, along with four-star Bo Jackson , the nation’s No. 5 running back. Each had attention from many SEC schools. Then there is Bellefontaine quarterback Tavien St. Clair , the biggest success story in the class.

go-deeper

Why 2025 recruit Bo Jackson is the 'home run hitter Ohio State will love to have'

Last summer, Ohio State prioritized St. Clair over Findlay’s Ryan Montgomery , who has since committed to Georgia . St. Clair was a three-star in the 247Sports Composite at the time of his commitment. Since then, St. Clair has shot up in the rankings to a five-star who is the No. 3 quarterback in the class and a top-15 overall player. St. Clair is the highest-rated quarterback in the 247Sports Composite rankings in the state’s history. Braxton Miller, in the 2011 class, was the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback, but his rating of .9847 is below St. Clair’s of .9947. Penn State quarterback Drew Allar was the No. 3 player in the country by 247Sports, but his composite rating was lower, at .9852.

“I think there’s a chance he takes another step as a senior,” Ivins said of St. Clair. “I think he’s wired the right way.”

The Buckeyes still want to land McNutt, but they have otherwise locked down their home state, as planned. Then they have gone back to some familiar pipelines for other positions. Tarvos Alford, the No. 8 linebacker, is the latest Florida product to join Ohio State. Texas has been good to Ohio State too, and Sanchez is the latest from there.

Credit for the success in the class thus far deserves to be spread around, from Day to general manager Mark Pantoni to the entire coaching staff. It’s a great start, but for the Buckeyes to lock down their first No. 1 class in the modern recruiting era, they still have some major needs.

Wide receiver is one of them, though Ohio State earned a big win on Friday in beating out Michigan, Penn State and others for Porter . The Buckeyes have been in the running for just about every major receiving prospect, including three other big-name players in four-star Vernell Brown, five-star Jamie Ffrench and five-star Dakorien Moore. Of the top 10 wide receivers, seven of them are uncommitted, and Ohio State is likely to make another splash in addition to Porter.

“They are in it for six or seven guys and all of them we think highly of,” Ivins said. “To me it’s one of the most fascinating things because we know Brian Hartline is going to get his guy — it’s just, OK, which one is it going to be?”

go-deeper

Ohio State tops Michigan, Penn State for top-50 WR Quincy Porter

Beyond that, Ohio State still needs help in the trenches. It’s in the running for a few offensive linemen, though it has a good start with Lowe. The defensive line should be a major point of emphasis too after last year’s troubles. The Buckeyes hosted four-star Cincinnati native Justin Hill already and plan to host four-star Mariyon Dye this weekend.

“Those, to me, regardless of where this class finishes, they have to get a guy who can attack from the corner and I think they can get it done,” Ivins said.

The talk all offseason has been about the Buckeyes going all-in for a national championship in the 2024 season, but the 2025 class is a reminder that expectations are for Ohio State to be competing for championships every year. And after things fell apart on the field late last season, the offseason plan is being executed to perfection.

It needs to lead to wins, of course, but since the losses to Michigan and Missouri, there’s been nothing to complain about in Columbus.

Former Eagles DE Explains What Will Be Missing Without Team Leader

John mcmullen | jun 15, 2024.

Former Eagles DE Chris Long

  • Philadelphia Eagles

PHILADELPHIA - Former two-time Super Bowl champion Chris Long was always a very cerebral player during his 11-year NFL career.

A former Walter Payton Man of the Year and two-time winner of the PFWA’s Good Guy Award for helping the media do its job, Long’s football IQ and understanding of the game are still regularly highlighted on his own “Green Light Podcast”.

Long ended his NFL journey as the 2008 No. 2 overall pick with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017-18 where he was a key rotational pass-rushing presence of the franchise’s Super Bowl LII-winning team.

During that time, Long got the front-row view of six-time Pro Bowl selection Fletcher Cox at the height of his career when Cox was perhaps the best pure football player on a Super Bowl-winning team.

Appearing on the “The Favorites” podcast , Long was asked about playing with then-St. Louis Rams future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald before pivoting to the bookend of his career with the Eagles' Cox, who retired this offseason after his own brilliant 12-year career.

"One of my biggest regrets was not staying healthier at the end of my tenure in St. Louis, because we had such a great line, and Aaron Donald was a big part of it,” Long said. “Obviously, I got banged up and was released two years later. Me and Aaron barely crossed over when it came to me being at my best.

"With Aaron on the team, it frees up a lot for other people. You know where they are going to pay attention.”

Long then turned to Cox, a four-time All-Pro.

"I also got to play with Fletcher Cox late in my career, and Fletcher Cox is the perfect type of superstar to play with because he is so team-oriented,” Long said. “There were times when, for Fletcher, it didn't matter who would get home [on the pass rush].  He knew what he was creating, and he didn't have to be the one to make the play, and you could make the play off of him.”

According to multiple team sources, one of the defensive issues during the Eagles’ collapse last season was freelancing on the defensive front.

With the defensive backfield both talent-deficient and injury-riddled, too many Eagles’ pass rushers went into business for themselves when the wheels began to fall off only exacerbating the problem.

Without Cox this season a host of younger players need to be ready to step up inside like the Georgia duo of Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, as well as first-time starter Milton Williams making discipline on the pass rush will be something to keep an eye on.

All of those players will be a big key for the Eagles’ presumptive top edge rushers in 2024: free-agent acquisition Bryce Huff, veterans Josh Sweat and Brandon Graham, and another Georgia hopeful with talent in second-year man Nolan Smith.

"People always ask, ‘What's most beneficial, having a great rusher inside or having a great rusher opposite of you (on the outside)?’ And as good as it is to talk about the bookends, I think having a guy inside is truly transformational for an edge-rusher,” Long said.
