Trending on billboard.

The tour kicks off on October 4 in Lexington, Ky., before making its way through cities like Nashville, Tempe and Orlando before wrapping up on October 25 in Las Vegas. While Carter will be honoring his Backstreet Boys pop roots, fans can also expect to see a new side of the singer.

“I’m going to go out with a band, and I play guitar. I’m going to be playing drums throughout the show. So, it has a bit more creative personal expression and is a little bit more organic, I guess you could say,” he says of how his tour differs from a BSB run, before sharing the “surprising” songs he hopes to add into the setlist. “There’s no walls for me when it comes to music,” Carter says with a laugh. “One of the songs I really want to do is Simple Mind’s ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ from The Breakfast Club and another one I want to do is Bon Jovi’s ‘Wanted Dead or Alive.’ I’m actually going to do some rap because I grew up listening to rap music. I’m gonna tear up some rap and do my own East Coast versus West Coast!”

Carter’s Who I Am tour comes at a particularly poignant time in the superstar’s life. In November, his younger brother and fellow pop star Aaron Carter died at age 34 after he drowned in the bathtub at his home in Lancaster, Calif., after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam. His cause of death was deemed accidental .

“It’s been a very rough year for me and my family and losing my brother is still something that I’m processing,” Nick shares. Following Aaron’s death, Nick and his sister Angel launched a donation fund in their late brother’s memory to benefit On Our Sleeves , which advocates to break the stigma surrounding mental health and provides children’s mental health resources to families and teachers nationwide.

“You try to find ways to cope with the things that are being thrown at you in life. Leaning into anything philanthropic or charitable, it makes it about something bigger than yourself,” Nick says of his past few months. “When my sister and I [launched the donation fund], I think that was the only way we were able to process what we’ve been going through. It’s become about how can we turn what we’ve been feeling into something that can hopefully help somebody else, and then we can learn from it and then somebody else can learn from it.”

“I love my brother. He’s my baby brother and I love him. Losing him, it’s been really hard,” he adds, before taking time to offer some advice for those also going through the loss of a loved one. “You just have to take life as it comes and learn from it and, most importantly, just know that you’re not alone.”

As for now, Nick says that the Who I Am tour has provided a much welcomed beam of light in a particularly tumultuous year. “I’m a musician. I’m an artist. I’m a performer, but I’m also a human first,” he explains. “Music is therapeutic to me and we all find ways to manage the things that we’re going through in life. Getting out there and performing for fans and just being who I am — it’ll help me during this this time.”

Nick Carter, originally from Backstreet Boys is still doing his thing as a singer songwriter. He has released two solo albums to date, “Now Or Never” and “I’m Taking Off”. I’ve got to give credit where it’s due and I can definitely confirm that this singer songwriter still has a fantastic voice. Tonight, he is performing work from his album “I’m Taking Off”. This is quite a “different performance to watch. The theatrics are like none I have ever seen before. Carter walks onstage as though he is an astronaut with all the gear on him ready to go, the audience are in absolute hysteria. They scream all the way through his set. One of my favourite things about his set is that he is performing with a live band playing a PRS electric guitar. His opening song “I’m Taking Off” is a huge pop rock song that is pretty close to “It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi in terms of the huge hooks that draw you in as a listener. “Blow Your Mind” is another song similar to “I’m Taking Off”, that is essentially driven by guitars throughout, but of course it features some huge hooks.

Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter Announces Solo Tour

Jon Mendelsohn

Updated:

Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter has recently opened up to Billboard about his upcoming solo tour, which has been dubbed the Who I Am 2023 Tour. It will mark Carter’s first solo tour in seven years.

Videos by American Songwriter

Carter’s tour will begin on October 4 with a show in Lexington, Kentucky. The brief tour will come to an end on October 25 with a concert in Las Vegas. Throughout the tour, Carter will play gigs in Nashville, Tampa, and Tempe.

“I was born in 1980 and there was a lot of music that influenced me throughout the years to be one of the members of the Backstreet Boys,” Carter told Billboard . “So, I’m going to perform a lot of songs that I love.”

Carter later explained that he is going to take on many roles throughout the tour. “I’m going to go out with a band, and I play guitar,” he said. “I’m going to be playing drums throughout the show. So, it has a bit more creative personal expression and is a little bit more organic, I guess you could say.

“There’s no walls for me when it comes to music,” Carter continued.

Carter has faced tragedy recently with the passing of his brother, Aaron Carter, who drowned in his bathtub last year at the age of 34. “It’s been a very rough year for me and my family and losing my brother is still something that I’m processing… I love my brother. He’s my baby brother and I love him. Losing him, it’s been really hard. You just have to take life as it comes and learn from it and, most importantly, just know that you’re not alone.”

Carter also addressed the serious allegations held against him by former Dream singer Melissa Schuman. Schuman filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against Carter earlier this year. In regard to the legal situation. “I’m a really strong believer in the legal system,” he said. “I’m confident that justice will be served in the end, and I actually look forward to speaking about it more when it’s all over.”

Tickets for Carter’s upcoming tour will be on sale starting July 21 . A complete set of dates are below:

The return of boy bands? Backstreet Boys Nick Carter talks about why they never went away

A fter spending 2022 touring the world with the Backstreet Boys' "DNA World Tour," popstar Nick Carter is taking some time to perform on his own and kicks off his "Who I Am" tour this week in Kentucky.

"I like to say I am coming home because we have two Kentucky boys in this group," Carter told the Courier Journal.

Carter is referring of course to Backstreet Boys members Kevin Richardson and his cousin Brian Littrell, who grew up in Central Kentucky.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

"I definitely wanted to do a show in Kentucky because it's a part of our story," he said. "When we started in 1995, Orlando, Tampa and Kentucky were the homes of the Backstreet Boys and so we have lots of family in Kentucky whether they are blood-related or not."

On Wednesday, Carter will start his 14-date solo tour at The Otis A. Singletary Center for the Arts on the University of Kentucky campus. The performer's "Who I Am" tour will continue through cities like Nashville, Tempe, and Orlando before wrapping up on Oct. 25 in Las Vegas.

"I wanted to play smaller venues on this tour so that I can really connect with people in a more intimate way than when we play big stadiums. It's fun to see all the faces in the audience," he said. "I'm going to perform a lot of songs that I love, [like] 80s songs, 90s songs. MTV had a big influence on me so I am performing songs I grew up with, and then also some solo songs and a lot of the Backstreet Boys songs. It’s just going to be a real fun show.”

Carter's show will feature a mix of old and new music and will include his most recent single "Superman."

“I've been in the Backstreet Boys for the past 30 years and I've had an onstage persona but when I'm home, I'm just a normal guy," Carter said. "I have a family, three kids, and this song is about the fact that I'm not superhuman, I'm just a dad trying to be the best person I can be. I think a lot of people can relate to that."

Now 42 years old, Carter may no longer be the teen idol he was in the 1990s, but his fan base, which to be fair has also matured, remains devoted. In fact, across the board, boy bands and their individual performers are as popular as ever. To date, the Grammy-nominated Backstreet Boys are the best-selling boy band in history and rank among the world's top-selling music artists of all time.

Thanks to their signature choreography, perfected vocal harmonies and dedicated fans, boy bands have stood the test of time and continue to thrive. NSYNC has released "Better Place," its first new song in more than 20 years, The Jonas Brothers are back together and recently performed at Lexington's Rupp Arena and in 2022, the Backstreet Boys' wildly popular "DNA" tour sold out across the county.

"I think people are trying to find music that makes them feel good," Carter told the Courier Journal. "People like to go back to things that made them feel connected and good, whether that's the clothing of the 90s or the boy bands that are still here and current."

Tickets for Carter's "Who I Am" tour start at $52 and are available at nickcarter.com . The concert is Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Otis A. Singletary Center for the Arts, 405 Rose St., Lexington. Maddie Poppe , the winner of Season 16 of "American Ido," will open for Carter.

Nick Carter Fires Off Subpoena to Late Brother Aaron Carter’s Estate Over Electronics

Nick Carter issued a subpoena to his administrator of his late brother Aaron Carter ’s estate regarding electronics, In Touch can exclusively report.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch , Nick, 44, and his legal team fired off the subpoena on March 15, regarding electronics.

The bombshell was revealed by Aileen Federizo , the court-appointment administrator of Aaron's estate, in a status report filed in June.

Aaron died on November 5, 2022, at the age of 34. An autopsy revealed Aaron had prescription pills in his system. His cause of death was confirmed to be drowning after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam.

In the report, Aileen said that based on her initial research, Aaron's estate was worth an estimated $757,000.

She noted that there were still several outstanding issues that needed to be handled before the probate case could close.

The first issue was pertaining to electronics. Aileen said, "electronics - items in storage as well as the ones subject to subpoena from Nickolas Carter's attorney dated 3/15/2024." She did not provide any other details on the subpoena.

Nick and Aaron had a rocky relationship over the years.

Sources told TMZ that the duo never resolved their issues before Aaron's death. An insider told the outlet that months before his death, Aaron's sister Angel Carter communicated to Aaron that Nick and she loved him and wanted to see him healthy.

In 2019, Nick obtained a restraining order against Aaron. In court documents, the Backstreet Boys singer accused his brother of threatening to kill his pregnant wife and unborn child.

The court ordered Aaron to stay 100 yards away from Nick, his wife and their kids. He was prohibited from coming near Nick's home in Las Vegas.

At the time, Nick said he had to seek protection, "In light of Aaron's increasingly alarming behavior and his recent confession that he harbors thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child."

Aaron, via a rep, told TMZ , "I am astounded at the accusations being made against me and I do not wish harm to anyone, especially my family."

The electronics could potentially be related to the lawsuits Nick is defending himself in. As In Touch previously reported, Nick was hit with three sexual assault lawsuits.

The first was brought by a woman named Shannon Ruth , who accused Nick of assaulting her on a tour bus in 2001. He denied the accusations .

The second lawsuit was brought by a former pop star named Melissa Schuman . She claimed Nick assaulted her in a Santa Monica, California, apartment in 2002. Nick denied the accusations.

Nick then countersued Shannon, Melissa, 40, and Melissa’s dad Jerome Schuman. He accused them of conspiring together to concoct fake accusations against him in an effort to extort a settlement. He demanded over $2 million in damages for the alleged harm to his career. In court documents, Nick claimed that Shannon and Melissa communicated with Aaron before his death.

He claimed the duo took advantage of Aaron’s “fragile condition” when he was fighting with Nick. Nick claimed that Aaron eventually believed he was being used by the accusers and cut off communication with him. Nick claimed Aaron apologized for his actions.

The third lawsuit was filed by a woman named Ashley Repp .

All of the cases are still pending.
