Holy Ground Explorations

Israel Tours

It has been said that a trip to Israel is spiritually more valuable than a year in seminary. It’s also been said that, in traveling to Israel, your Bible will change from black-and-white to full color, but it goes further than that… your Bible will now be read in 3D.

Won’t you come with us? Walk where Jesus walked… pray where Jesus prayed… weep where Jesus wept. Picture the Exodus as we travel in the desert. Rejoice with the Resurrection at an Empty Tomb. Receive Redemption at a beach on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. A trip of a lifetime? No… you will be back for many trips of a lifetime.

Amir Tsarfati

“I highly recommend all to consider their next Israel tour with Holy Ground Explorations for a unique and unforgettable experience of the land, the people and the word of God. I’ve known Dan and Sharon for years and discovered them as great tour hosts and leaders with a genuine desire to see God changing lives and deepening faith of their tour members!”

Israel is not just another vacation or destination to check off the list. It is the most impactful place that a person can visit and it is only because I have been there that I say that. Prior to my first visit to Israel I was anxious and nervous because I didn’t know what to expect and was being questioned by many people as to whether or not I was in my right mind for going. I felt I might be making a mistake and thought maybe all the people questioning my sanity were right to do so. (more…)

Andrew

Never having been to the Middle East, or really anywhere very far from home in the U.S., a couple of friends and I were intrigued with the thought of visiting the Promised Land. We saw a promotion to go with Dan and Sharon with an organization we knew through our study of God’s Word, and we were compelled enough to book a tour. As the date approached, the idea that sounded so good as “something to do someday”, was becoming a reality and I was growing increasingly hesitant (at best) and fearful (at least). (more…)

Sean

I would say that a spiritual trip to the land of Israel is a must for every believer. If you never travel anywhere else in the world and have only one trip overseas, there is no doubt in our minds it should be Israel. We've had the privilege of seeing the Land of the Bible with Dan, Sharon and Jane on 2 occasions in 2014 and 2015. In all honesty our lives have never been the same. (more…)

Susie and Willem

We have been blessed with three opportunities to be on tours in the Holy Land with groups arranged and led by Dan and Sharon Stolebarger. Each tour was different in content — all were superbly organized, starting with a smooth arrival process into Israel with a warm greeting on arrival. (more…)

If you are thinking of visiting Israel, Jordan or the biblical sites of Turkey, then think Holy Ground Explorations. Why? Because, who you travel with will profoundly influence what you experience in these unique lands. With Holy Ground Explorations, you will be treated to more than a rushed visit to the historical and biblical highlights. You will be more than just “one of many” on a bus tour. Because for the Holy Ground Exploration leaders, Dan and Sharon Stolebarger — it’s personal. That is their vision. (more…)

Sue

My time living in Israel has proven to be one of the most spiritual growth times of my life. I told someone after 30 days that I was so ready to come home, but enjoyed every day I was there including the last day in Jerusalem, I found myself wanting to soak up every place we went from day 1 to day 30. Even while we traveled in the vans, I never wanted to sleep or even doze for fear I might miss even the smallest site. Day after day I looked with wonder at God’s land and all the Jewish people we met. (more…)

Anne

As someone from the U.K. who has done numerous trips to Israel since 1988, I have yet to come across anything that could even come close to this one. Why? Well everything from the practical and organizational side, to the choice of sights and hotels is outstanding. But a tour is only ever going to be as good as its guide (and the coach driver) and this is where they excel. Absolutely head and shoulders above anything I’ve experienced!! (more…)

HGE can also create custom Israel excursions for your group, church, or organization. Contact us for details!

Join this unforgettable Christian cruise to the Mediterranean with Amir Tsarfati

A note from amir tsarfati.

I’m excited to announce Behold Israel’s upcoming Daniel & Revelation Mediterranean Cruise, coming October 2024! After the incredible success of July’s inaugural conference cruise to Alaska, I couldn’t wait to share with you the next opportunity for teaching out on the water.

The focus of our conference will be on the companion books of Daniel and Revelation. In May 2024, I will release my next book, Discovering Daniel , as a prequel to the bestselling Revealing Revelation . Because the messages of these books complement each other so well, I have developed a series of teachings that will walk through the entire message of both powerful prophetic writings. I will share the teaching load with my dear friend and gifted prophecy teacher, Pastor Barry Stagner. By the time you make your final disembarkation, you will do so with a solid grasp on God’s end times plans as revealed through the apocalyptic visions of Daniel and the apostle John.

Regarding location, we are moving from the frigid waters of the North Pacific to the warm seas of the Mediterranean. For many, our departure and arrival cities of Athens and Rome would immediately check two items off their bucket lists. But in between those two legendary locations, we will make several incredible stops, including, among others, Mykonos, Greece; Istanbul, Turkey; Messina, Italy; and the city-state of Monaco. This is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to places many have only read about or seen in movies.

We will again be teaming up with Inspiration Travel—a tour company I have worked with for over 20 years that always provides a top-quality experience. Our launch will be on October 19, and we’ll arrive at our final port on October 29.

I would love for you to join Behold Israel for this amazing adventure. Please prayerfully consider the Daniel & Revelation Mediterranean Cruise in October 2024 for the experience of a lifetime!

Mediterranean Cruise FAQs

Please carefully review the details of the Cancellation Policy below, as well as the full Terms & Conditions prior to booking your travel event.

All prices, penalties and change fees are quoted per passenger based on selected occupancy.

The climate of the Mediterranean is subtropical. It extends throughout the Mediterranean basin and is very similar to the weather in Southern California. It is characterized by warm to hot, humid summers and cool, wet winters. Changing ocean currents help to moderate the temperatures, ensuring mild winters and some relief during sweltering summers. Areas within this environment receive almost all their precipitation during the winter, fall and spring. Summers may be entirely dry with little to no precipitation.

Below is a checklist to help you pack for your exceptional travel experience. Remember that your luggage will be delivered to your cabin at an unspecified time on the day of departure, so it’s a good idea to pack a change of clothes, toiletries and any medications you need in a carry-on bag to bring with you.

Packing Checklist

  • Casual clothes including pants, jeans, shorts, T-shirts, collared shirts or blouses
  • Light sweater or jacket
  • Semi-formal clothes or dress clothes for 1-2 evenings, depending on the length of your cruise
  • Bathing suit and a cover-up or wrap
  • Light raincoat or compact umbrella
  • Comfortable walking shoes or sandals with rubber soles
  • Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Toiletries, in a sealed, clear bag inside your luggage
  • Minor First Aid care items such as Band-Aids, aspirin, hand sanitizer, etc.
  • Medications in their original containers
  • Hair care appliances (see information on Using Electronics)
  • Small bag or backpack for port days; large enough to carry your camera and other personal items
  • Passport with separate photocopy

Dining Dress Code

On a typical seven-day cruise, you’ll have two nights of dressing up for dinner or other special events. We suggest a semi-formal dress or skirt and blouse for women and a dark suit for men. The remaining dinners on the cruise are informal—blouse and pants for women; collared shirt with trousers for men. Remember that T-shirts, shorts or tank tops are not permitted in the dining room.

Packing Tips

Make certain your suitcase closes and fastens securely. Mark your luggage and carry-on bag with your name and address so you can distinguish them easily. We also recommend you put identification information—name, address and phone number—INSIDE your luggage in case the luggage tags are lost in transit. We also suggest keeping your essential toiletries and a one-day change of clothes in your carry-on. Do not pack your passport or travel documents in your luggage. It is suggested that you keep a color copy of the information page of your passport inside your luggage if your passport is lost.

For more information, please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am – 5:30pm, Pacific Time.

We know how nice it is to have the convenience of home when traveling on a cruise. Bringing your electronics and hair appliances can enhance your overall travel experience. Every cruise ship has plugs that accept U.S. and Continental European devices, and you do not need to bring plug adaptors. Here are some things to know about your electronics before you pack them:

Phones, MP3 Players, Laptops, Cameras & Video Cameras

Most small digital devices have chargers that will fit in the plugs on a cruise ship. One thing to be mindful of is the limited plugs in each cabin; you may want to bring a multi-plug extension cord.

Blow Dryers, Curling Irons & Straighteners

Each stateroom has a hair dryer for your personal convenience. If you prefer your hair appliances, you may want to consider purchasing or borrowing compact and travel-friendly appliances.

If staying in a hotel before or after your cruise, you have three options of devices designed to help you operate personal electronics overseas:

Most Mediterranean countries use one of two electrical socket types: Type C, the standard Euro plug with two round pins, and Type F. Because Type C fits into Type F, you can bring a Type C adapter to enable your standard plug to fit into Mediterranean wall outlets. Most are relatively inexpensive, about $3 to $5 each. If you travel frequently, consider purchasing a universal adapter kit, like this: Travel Adapter .

Dual-voltage Appliances

Many small electronic devices are dual-voltage and will adjust automatically for other countries. If your appliance’s charger has a manual switch, you must change it back and forth before plugging in your appliance. Check the manual or power cord for the device to know if it will work with 220 voltage without a converter.

A power converter allows you to run U.S. devices that are not dual-voltage. Most converters cost $40 to $50. Be aware that U.S. electronics that are not dual-voltage should never be used without a converter in countries with a voltage of 220.

For more information, please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm, Pacific Time.

The scenic beauty of the Mediterranean can be enjoyed from onboard the ship and to make the most of your cruise vacation, you can also get out into the local ports. Shore excursions offer something for everyone. Choose from city tours, culinary explorations, shopping outings, cultural activities and more.

Because shore excursions have limited capacity and fill up quickly, we recommend you book early for the best selection on your cruise. Once you’ve booked your Inspiration cruise, check out the customized cruise line excursion list based on your itinerary. Using your cruise booking number, you can easily book shore excursions online as early as 60 days before your trip and up to 3 days before departure, depending on the cruise line.

Visit the cruise line’s website to find information on specific excursions:

  • Celebrity Cruises
  • Holland America Line
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Royal Caribbean International

You may also register for your Shore Excursions once onboard the ship. All shore excursion requests are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Waitlisted requests for sold-out shore excursions will be processed before requests made onboard.

For more information please call one of our Reservation Coordinators at 800 247 1899 , Monday through Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm, Pacific Time.

We want to help make your trip as smooth and as enjoyable as possible. We can book motorcoach transfers for you from the airport to your cruise departure port and on your return trip.

Hotel Stays

Remember that you always have the option of arriving earlier or staying later. For example, hotel reservations may be available if you want to arrive a few days early before boarding your cruise or stay a few days after the cruise returns.

As you plan for your upcoming Christian cruise with Inspiration, you may wonder about using money and credit cards during your travels. We’ve made the following recommendations to help you save money, avoid unnecessary fees and focus on an exceptional travel experience.

  • Consider leaving all unnecessary credit cards at home.
  • Once you determine which cards you’ll bring, remember to notify each credit card company of your intended travel dates and locations to ensure fraud alerts and holds are not placed on your accounts.
  • For each card, you’ll want to store the bank’s contact information in a separate, secure location in the unlikely event your wallet or purse is lost or stolen.

Almost all Mediterranean destinations accept U.S. credit or debit cards; sometimes you need your PIN. If you plan to use your credit cards, you’ll want to check with each credit card company to determine the international exchange fee for each card. Because the difference of a few percentage points could cost you more (depending on your purchases), we recommend using cards with lower international exchange fees. Using your credit card for large purchases gives you more protection for the items you buy on your trip. You can review your credit card statement to verify all of your purchases.

You’ll visit multiple countries on a Mediterranean cruise and encounter a variety of currencies. Here are some specifics:

EUROPEAN UNION

The euro (€) is the sole currency of the European Union member states (such as Italy, Croatia and Greece). U.S. dollars are not widely accepted in Europe, which is why we recommend ordering euros from your local bank ahead of time. You can exchange your currency at banks, exchange booths and airports.

While most cruise lines offer money exchange services onboard, please note that NCL does not provide this service. We recommend checking the exchange rate before traveling to a foreign country.  Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted.

The official currency of Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TL). The country’s tourism-oriented places and larger businesses typically accept U.S. currency and Euros. Visa and MasterCard are also widely accepted.

Today’s technology allows you to stay connected while traveling—ensuring you get that memorable photo or message from your loved ones. On most ships, you should be able to use your cell phone or smartphone to do everything you’re used to doing at home. In addition, mobile phones provide convenient access for emergencies and confirming travel plans. Some basic guidelines and tips will help you save money, keep your phone working effectively and stay in touch.

Before you leave

Spending some time contacting your cell phone carrier before your trip will help ensure you can call friends and family back home and eliminate any surprises on your phone bill when you return. Let your phone carrier know your travel plans, including how you plan to use your phone on your cruise. You’ll want to make sure you understand all of the potential charges. Contact your carrier for specific information.

Check with your carrier for international dialing access

You will want to make sure international and cruise package dialing is active on your mobile phone plan so that you can use it in the Canadian ports and remember that international and maritime roaming rates will apply to calls placed onboard the ship (charges will appear on your phone bill). Because roaming rates can be high on cruises, checking with your carrier for specific cost details before you leave is a good idea.

Aboard your flight and cruise

Your cell phone’s battery life is the key to keeping you connected. Below are some tips for staying powered up on your trip:

  • Remember to set your phone to Airplane Mode when you board your flight. You can also do this aboard the cruise when sailing to avoid roaming charges unless you have the cruise ship package with your carrier. This suspends all calling and texting functions but still allows you to play games, use your camera and listen to music, etc.
  • On the cruise, you’ll want to charge your phone every night to ensure enough battery life for the next day.
  • Try to turn off your phone when you’re not using it. Leaving your phone on all day drains the battery, so it’s a good idea to turn it off while you’re on a shore excursion, eating or reading.

Smartphone tips

As one of the most popular communication devices today, smartphones have revolutionized how we connect and the world. We know leaving your smartphone behind for an hour, much less multiple days is difficult. The following tips will help you save your phone’s battery life and get the most out of your smartphone while on the cruise:

  • Before your cruise, you’ll want to disable any applications that give you regular updates, such as sports reports and weather updates.
  • Disable the Data Enabled or Data Roaming option on your phone and keep it off until you reach your destination. Turn off the function for “Automatic” checking of emails and change the email settings to “Manual” to reduce data roaming charges. During your trip, you can check for email messages when connected to a free, wireless Internet connection, such as in a hotel lobby or Internet cafe while in port.

In-room phones and phone cards

If you choose to not bring your mobile phone, you can stay in touch with others while on your cruise using the in-room phones. Please make sure you understand all of the charges associated with this before you place your call, as the rates can be expensive.

Your cruise vacation allows you to travel without the hassle of checking in and out of hotels, packing and unpacking, and spending valuable time trying to find quality restaurants–all with excellent service dedicated to enhancing your exceptional travel experience.

Each cruise line makes rewarding the excellent service you’ll receive onboard easy. A gratuity of $16-$19 per day (depending on the cruise line and cabin category), per guest for dining and stateroom services will be automatically added daily to your shipboard account. The cruise line also will automatically add an 18% service charge to beverages purchased through your onboard account. Before the end of the cruise, the Cruise Director will address more specific questions regarding tipping procedures.

If you take a taxi to the pier, it’s common to simply round up to the next dollar when paying your tab. The cab drivers appreciate this, and it is considered part of their income. When you arrive at the ship on embarkation day, we suggest tipping the porters at the pier $1.25 per bag when they take your luggage to place it on the ship.

A 15-20% tip for restaurant service workers is appreciated when visiting restaurants off the ship and during shore excursions.

Depending on your itinerary, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore the cities, world-famous archaeological sites and attractions of each destination on your route. In Italy, you’ll find iconic works of art and soaring cathedrals. In Greece, you’ll encounter epic views and dazzling blue shores. And throughout the region, you’ll discover biblical history, delicious food and landmarks known worldwide. Here are a few articles with the top experiences we recommend:

Please note that there is no guarantee we will be able to find you a roommate.

If we are unable to match you with a roommate, you will be charged the additional cost for a single room. Matching of roommates will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Example: The first two single females that sign up will be paired together, etc.

If we are unable to find a roommate, we will keep you posted as things move along.

Enjoy delicious Israeli-style buffet breakfasts and dinners every day at your hotels, included in the tour price. Lunches will be outside of the hotel and all but two lunches are included in the tour price. The approximate price per meal can range anywhere from $10–$30.

Please know that as a participant on the tour, you will walk 3-5 miles per day. You must be able to keep up with the group with minimal assistance. Some of the sites have uneven steps, cobblestone streets, rocks or stone steps without railings, ramps or other disability accommodations. Please consider that your physical and medical conditions might prevent you from being able to keep up with the group, as it is your responsibility to do so.

Most places in Israel will take your credit cards. It is always good to have shekels on you, just in case. There is an ATM at the hotel as well. You can also exchange money at the check-in desk. It is easy to withdraw shekels from an ATM or exchange money at a money changer. Please do not walk around with all your money, put some in your safe in your hotel room. It is not advisable to request shekels in your home country as you will probably pay a high premium. It is advisable to notify your bank and credit card that you will be traveling outside of your home country since the bank/credit card will notice that you are not making regular/normal spending.

You will want to alert your phone company that you are traveling overseas and try to get a package that gives you minutes and data while overseas. In Israel, everyone uses Whatsapp for free messaging and calls and can simply be used with the hotel’s internet. Many coffee shops, etc. also let you use their internet. If you have a data package on your phone, you are set anyways. Be aware of not setting this up and receiving high charges when you get back to your home country.

Here's some things to watch for when you go to book your flights:

A. Arrival: You want to find flights that will arrive in Tel Aviv as close to the afternoon of February 14 as possible. Our tour buses pick you up from Ben Gurion airport and transport you back to the hotel if you arrive fairly close to this landing time. It helps to arrive close to the mid afternoon so you won't have to wait long for our bus to arrive. If you come in early in the morning or late that evening, you will have to find your own transportation to your first hotel, Dan Tel Aviv Hotel.

B. Departure: On our last day, February 22, we will tour all day, end with a farewell dinner, then the tour bus will take you to the airport. It is best to find a flight VERY late on February 22 (11pm - midnight), or early am on February 23 (1am etc.)

C. A typical non-stop flight to Tel Aviv from LAX is about 14 hours. If you pick flights with layovers, watch the length of the flight.

D. Look at the cities in which you'll have a layover. Is it a city that could become "snowed in"? Think about weather.

E. A great airline is El Al Airlines, the Israeli airline. They have a flight that works out very good with our schedule.

If you are interested, here's that flight info:

Tuesday, February 13, 2024:

Flight #LY6 (non-stop 14 hour flight)

Departs 2pm from LAX; arrives at Tel Aviv at 2pm on Feb 14

Friday, February 23, 2024:

Flight #LY1 (layover at JFK)

Departs 00:45am from Tel Aviv; arrives at LAX at 11:01am on Feb 23.

The tour agency does not include travel insurance, and strongly recommends every visitor gets extra insurance. We have found that there is a time limit in getting the insurance, so check their requirements as soon as you sign up for the trip.

One company that many people use for travel insurance is: allianztravelinsurance.com. You might also check Travelex Insurance Services.

Check with your healthcare provider to understand their own policies for international travel.

Please make sure your passport expiration date is good through 6 months after the end date of the tour. This is required by the country you are visiting. If you must renew your passport, do it ASAP. A normal renewal period is about three months.

The deposit of $500 is non-refundable. As time gets closer to the trip, there may be fees we are not able to refund, such as hotel deposits, etc. We will do everything possible to refund as much of your trip as possible. Airline costs are between you and the airline carrier. This is why it may be a good idea to get the travel insurance.

If you want to email a question, please ask Vickie at [email protected]

Frequently Asked Questions

With the trip being sold out, is there a waitlist.

The tour is now sold out, please join the waitlist and we’ll notify you if a spot becomes available. Join the Waitlist!

I am traveling alone and noticed the trip cost is double occupancy. Will I have a roommate?

For those traveling alone and needing a roommate, we will do our best to pair you up with a roommate of the same sex.

Can I room by myself?

Yes, but there is a significant fee for single occupancy. Single occupancy is an additional $1700 per person.

How long is the flight?

That will depend on your departure city. Please ensure you don’t have a long layover or too many stops. Those airfares are less expensive, but it makes for a long, tiring day before you arrive in Israel.

Will I receive more information when I arrive at the hotel to check in?

Yes, you will be greeted upon arriving at the hotel with all pertinent information regarding your stay.

What is the weather like?

The best thing to do is to check the weather online. Be sure to bring a light jacket and layer your clothes.

How many buses will the tour have?

We will not know how many buses until after we have sign-ups. We can take up to 10 buses.

How much spending money should I bring?

You will be responsible for two lunches, snacks, sodas, and any souvenirs you want to purchase. A good starting point would be $300-$500 cash, but remember you can also use your credit card. It all depends on your spending habits. You can purchase water on the bus for $1.00, so we advise you to bring dollar bills. You will also be able to order authentic Israeli jewelry, such as necklaces, rings, and money clips inscribed with your favorite scripture in Hebrew. The jeweler does take credit cards or cash.

Can I use my credit card while traveling internationally?

Yes, definitely. Visa and MasterCard are easier to use than American Express. Most credit card companies have international fees, so check with your banking institution. Also, it’s best to alert your credit card company that you will be traveling internationally.

Can I use my cell phone to text or call home? If so, what is the cost?

You need to contact your cell phone carrier. International calls are costly. However, many carriers have plans for international travel. Texting can be part of your plan, and it’s much cheaper to text than to make an international call. You must set up your international plan before departure.

Is the food good?

The food is excellent! Fresh fruits and vegetables are at each meal with a variety of different types of foods.

Will I be able to get baptized in Israel?

Yes, you will have the opportunity to be baptized in the Jordan River at the historical site where Jesus was believed to have been baptized.

Are there hair dryers in each hotel room?

Yes, hairdryers are supplied.

Do I tip the driver, guides, and hotel staff?

No, all tips are included in the cost of the trip.

Where should I pack my prescription medications?

Pack all prescription medications in your carry-on luggage i n case your check-in luggage is  delayed. Luggage does not get delayed often, but it is better to always have your prescriptions/medications with you.

Will I need an adaptor/transformer for my computer, curling/flat iron, electric razor, etc.?

Yes. For ladies that use curling irons, flat irons, etc., we suggest you purchase them with international dual voltage. You will still need the adaptor for these dual-voltage items but not the transformer. If you bring your computer, you will need the adaptor only as they are made to handle the dual voltage.

Can I drink the water?

Absolutely! Bottled water will be available on each bus for $1 a bottle. It is important you stay hydrated on this trip!

Do I need to exchange my American dollars for shekels?

No, that is unnecessary, as American dollars or credit cards are accepted in the shops you visit.

Is the Covid Vaccine required?

No, the Covid Vaccine is no longer required nor a vaccine card.

What age children are allowed on the tour?

Children age 5 and older.

What information is needed for registration?

Name, address, phone number, email address and credit card information.

Can I sign up all my family members on one registration form?

Yes, you certainly can and we recommend you do that to guarantee you are all on the tour together.
