‘It’s Called Go-Go Dancing’—Alex Magala Addresses Accusation He Is a ‘Stripper’; James River Church Says They Didn’t Know
Near chicago, a lutheran church finds new life at the ymca, ‘flynn’ portrays the christian nationalist evangelist’s fight with the deep state, rebecca mclaughlin defends cru, weighs in on richard hays’ new book on sexuality, ‘overcomer’ singer and grammy award-winning christian artist mandisa dead at 47, ‘journey to hell’ is a faith-based movie that aims to change hearts and lives.
When it hits theaters this Friday (August 5), “Journey to Hell” will sound a clear and frightening warning to anyone who doesn’t believe in Jesus Christ. The faith-based movie , delayed several times by the pandemic, offers a glimpse into what awaits non-believers in the fiery underworld.
Director Timothy Chey says the movie has a two-part goal: to help people “understand how real hell is” and to have “many people coming to Jesus .”
‘Journey to Hell’ Is Based on a John Bunyan Allegory
John Bunyan, author of the classic 17 th -century allegory “ The Pilgrim’s Progress ,” provides the inspiration for “ Journey to Hell .” In the film, a man named Shane Badman (who thinks he’s a Christian) dreams about hell during a near-drowning. The terrifying experience makes him realize he had been a Christian in name only. When Badman recovers, he dedicates his life to Jesus.
In interviews about the movie, Chey says he “changed the ending to make it completely uplifting” because “no one would go [see the movie] if it’s just about a man being in hell.”
The trailer for “Journey to Hell” shows Badman wandering a flame-covered landscape, encountering notorious figures such as Judas Iscariot, Nero, and Adolf Hitler. Viewers see glimpses of a prosperity preacher , someone saying no “magic prayer” guarantees salvation, someone claiming hell is an “old-school fundamentalist belief,” and someone quoting this Old Testament warning: “Remember him—before the silver cord is severed” ( Ecclesiastes 12:6 ).
Badman (played by John Terrell) eventually acknowledges he is “just a filthy sinner” who needs Jesus Christ. When he regains consciousness, he thanks God for sending his Son. He also admits he deserves hell but promises to start praising and living for Jesus.
Can You Scare People to Faith?
Promotional materials for the movie note that only about half of Americans believe in a literal hell. Chey says “Journey to Hell” will alert lukewarm Christians to change their ways. Then on Judgment Day they won’t hear Jesus say, “I never knew you; depart from Me” ( Matthew 7:22-23 ).
The director notes that in the Bible, Jesus speaks about hell more than heaven. And the film’s trailer features Charles Spurgeon ’s warning that “ Hell is filled with almost-saved people.”
Chey says he thinks we’re living in the last days, and he describes himself as “a firm believer” in the Rapture . “Only the Rapture will rescue [God’s] church before the seven years of tribulation that will come on the entire earth,” he says.

Blame After Last Season, maybe. I never got to be one of the few, the proud, to see that incomprehensible trainwreck in cinemas, and I have never actually seen it, because I so envied the perhaps-suspecting but nonetheless wholly unprepared audiences for the brainbreaking experience they had, and I knew a home viewing could never compare.
So when I discovered Internet schadenfreude-watch trailer sensation Journey To Hell was making what appeared to be its debut across a few cinemas in Denver while I was in town, I envisioned a similar experience: a film full of conviction, entirely lacking in talent, creating a cinematic singularity.
Alas. It's true that Journey To Hell has more (much more) than its share of risible…

A fearmongering fundamentalist propaganda movie about a churchgoer who dies and gets sent to hell because he didn't love Jesus enough? Okay, fine. But why does that movie need an extended sequence in which our protagonist in hell meets Adolf Hitler, Mao Zedong, and "the CEO of the tobacco company"?
Without the inexplicable presence of a star/good actor like Malcolm McDowell, Timothy A. Chey's ineptitude as a writer-director really shines. It's not as consistently batshit as something like Fateful Findings or even Ben & Arthur , but the competence and production value are(n't) there, and there are enough wonderfully disorienting moments (Mao Zedong doing kung fu, a demon fawning "This is the smartest, most clever human being I have ever met" over the Zodiac killer) to make this one fun for a hate-watch.

This movie is the worst garbage fire of a movie I’ve seen. It’s also not so bad it’s good it’s just legitimately bad. Also, a lot of it is in poor taste especially some of the people that show up in hell.

Occasionally, in moments of weakness, I seek out recently-made evangelical propaganda movies. I have a few thoughts on this one, and I plan to inflict it on friends and family.
- Pay the guy who played actual Mao Zedong a million dollars. Right now. - Once a month, one of my friends shows me their new boytoy with exactly the same delivery that Legion the Demon uses while introducing Judas Iscariot to the protagonist. Make of that what you will. - Please picture a hard cut to the most normal, accountant-esque guy you've ever seen saying "I'm the Zodiac Killer! 😙" right now. - I do not advocate watching this entire film. I do, however, implore you to watch the…

It is a breed of Absolute z-grade unaware Christian filmmaking I thought the Evangelical market moved away from in recent years. Every filmmaking choice more puzzling than the previous one. There are laughs at every corner and everytime the paradox of them showing an actual big expensive house to shoot on set and then transitioning to a green screen inside of a church had me roaring.
I also feel the need to share my favorite YouTube comment on the upload that I cannot even discern if it is unironic or not "I love this movie and find it very relatable. I wasn't in Hell but I was in Newark, NJ, which is very similar."

Movie Review: Journey to Hell
While Christian movies aren’t the most popular genre, we can still expect a few of them to come out every couple of years. Frequently positing moral quandaries and engaging the audience in thoughtful exploration of religion, the best of these movies can present a good experience for believers and non-believers alike. One such movie is Journey to Hell, based on the book by John Bunyan.
The movie was directed by Timothy A. Chey , a creator with a pretty consistent artistic vision. For Chey, every movie is a chance to not only entertain the audience but present an important message through his work. Among his 15 feature films, Timothy A. Chey has been able to present many of the important morals of Christianity.
In this new movie, Timothy A. Chey takes a deep look into the perception of faith. As surveys show, 50% of Christians do not believe in Hell. This movie takes a deep look into the biblical representation of Hell and the acts that may fool a man into thinking he is no sinner. While the movie is slated to come out on August 5th, we caught an early screening of it. The impressions of the movie are laid below but if you wish to learn more, check out the trailer at
The movie follows a rather simple structure, being focused on the main character’s experiences in Hell after a near-death experience. This journey leads him to a revelation of his position in life and the afterlife while introducing some examples of past sinners. While simple, the plot is very engaging and flows well with the message. Characters feel like regular people, even some of the denizens of Hell end up being just regular people on the wrong path.
As far as the visual presentation of the movie goes, it’s quite evocative. While scenes in the living world are pretty standard and present little more than background for characters to interact in, Hell is well-realized in a rather raw manner. The effects can falter at times, but the overall feel of Hell is adequately uncomfortable. Murky colors and the unexplainable nature of it bring over enough unease to punch up the mood of every scene set there.
Acting does a good job of transferring the emotional weight of the scenes within the movie. Both the main character and his loved ones play a huge role in the greater scheme that leads him to the revelation. While his change is bolstered by the experiences in Hell, the people that surround him are no less important to it. This wouldn’t be possible without the cast doing a decent acting job.
While the movie is certainly flawed, its core principles aren’t. The proper pacing of the movie leads to the elements falling neatly into place. It lasts as long as it has to and compounds all the story elements well. Acting and scenery aid the presentation, leading to an overall engaging experience that’s worth a watch.
The movie comes out on August 5th in select theaters, but if you aren’t near one of those, don’t worry! The plan is for the movie to have showings in all states of America, giving you a chance to catch it live. If that fails, there’s always online streaming which may be a good alternative for those away from such theaters.

Highly-awaited movie 'journey to hell' hits oc theaters on october 7, 2022.
LOS ANGELES, CA / ACCESSWIRE / August 25, 2022 / The new Christian movie 'Journey to Hell' hits Orange County, CA theaters on October 7, 2022.
The film has premiered to great applause from audiences in Colorado Springs, Phoenix, Denver, and Honolulu.
"We so appreciate the huge crowds coming to see this film," says a spokesperson for Rock Studios and VGC Productions. "It's incredible."
Based on the best-selling, highly-acclaimed classic novel by John Bunyan, the film is about a man who dreams he goes to a literal Biblical hell and wakes up a changed man for the Lord.
"My hope and prayer," says Director Tim Chey, "is this film scares people out of hell, not scares the hell out of people."
At a time when only 50% of Christians believe hell exists, according to a recent Barna study, ‘JOURNEY TO HELL' shows one man's journey to hell where he discovers a real hell populated by real characters (Hitler, Nero, Mao Tse Tung, the Zodiac killer etc). The film will show how the Lord Jesus Christ can save anyone from hell.
"The film is very uplifting in the end," continues Chey. "We have a very happy ending and people are reporting lots of tears and cheering, it's incredible."
Over 9,000 actors submitted for ‘Journey to Hell'.
"Hell is real," says Chey. "And as CH Spurgeon said, ‘Hell is filled with many who were almost saved and he also said, more importantly, ‘If hell must be filled, at least let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go there unwarned and unprayed for.'"
Chey is a former atheist when he went to Harvard and later when practicing law. He became a filmmaker following his passions and is the most prolific Christian producer/director of over 15 movies, including 'Freedom' (Cuba Gooding, Jr. Sharon Leal), 'The Islands' (Mira Sorvino, John Savage), and 'Interview with the Antichrist'.
He also wrote and directed ‘David and Goliath' filmed in North Africa and London, ‘Epic Journey' for Daystar TV that reached 85 million homes, and '20 Minutes' which hits theaters in the fall.
"It's all about Jesus," says Chey. "I'm a nobody and the chief of sinners. But the blood of Christ saved me and I understand how awesome and merciful God is. I deserve hell more than anyone on this planet, but God forgave me."
"Journey to Hell' hits OC theaters on October 7, 2022.

Discovery Sets New Docuseries ‘Expedition From Hell: The Lost Tapes’ for May | Exclusive
Watch the teaser for the limited series about a doomed expedition through the Amazon
Discovery is preparing to go where few have gone before with its upcoming docuseries, “Expedition From Hell: The Lost Tapes,” TheWrap can exclusively reveal.
“Expedition From Hell” premieres on Discovery Channel and Max on May 12 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with a two-hour premiere.
The limited series uses over 700 hours of archival footage to tell the story of Mickey Grosman, a former special forces demolitions expert who took a group of amateur adventurers across South America. The journey was supposed to be a charity trek for cancer as participants traveled 5,000 miles across the continent, exploring the deepest parts of the Amazon jungle. The only problem is only one person claims to have made it to the journey’s end — Grosman.
The series shows the perils and ineptitudes that turned this charity trek into a battle for survival. The doomed expedition involved “kidnapping, prison escapes and a missing person,” according to a press release for the series. “Expedition From Hell” promises to shock even those who were beside Grosman in this doomed adventure.
The first promo for the series starts with an interview with a man who went on the expedition being asked what he wished he was told before he went. “I wished they would have told me about Mickey Grosman,” he says, laughing.
“I think he’s trying to make it about him,” another participant says. “Not just the Amazon, but can you survive Mickey?” The teaser then cuts between footage of Grosman yelling at the travelers, someone falling through a bridge and another explorer trapped in the rapids of a river. Watch the teaser above.
“Pulled from hundreds of hours of footage, every episode of this compelling docuseries includes terrifying obstacles endured by those who chose to join the expedition,” Howard Lee, president of Discovery Networks, said in a press release. “As we dug deeper to understand the motives behind those who took part in this doomed adventure, even we were surprised by what we saw.”
The docuseries is produced for Warner Bros. Discovery by Sony Pictures Television’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC) in association with Wrigley Media.
