King Zebra is set to release their latest album, Between the Shadows, on 12th April 2024 under Frontiers Records.

The band hails from Zurich, Switzerland, and has been established in the music scene since their self-titled EP released in 2019.

Frontiers Music says that the band “…emerges as the new face of rock in a harmonious fusion of youthful exuberance and veteran wisdom”. King Zebra has shared stages with bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Rose Tattoo. Between the Shadows is highly anticipated and has been an album three years in the making.

The album opens with Starlight, an upbeat and catchy rock song. Immediately I’m engrossed by Eric St Michaels’ vocals, which are clean and smooth. St Michaels was formerly the vocalist of Swiss rock band China, and brings his passion and powerful vocals to King Zebra.

Children of the Night is the album’s first single, with a music video released on 6th March. The music video is absolutely worth a watch – it’s a superhero-eque, anime cartoon style video of the band and works great in conjunction with the song.

The song features keyboards backing up heavy guitars and chants of “we are the children of the night”. A lot of the songs have anthemic, chanting vocals during the choruses which bring the high energy and power.

Wicked is another song of that caliber; it’s a heavy song with a shredding guitar solo and that repetitive, ** chorus. What’s a better title for an 80s rock song than a woman’s name? Between the Shadows has its song named after a woman’s name: Dina. It has that 80s rock feel to it, as does Love Lies.

You can hear the arena rock inspiration with the booming drums and choruses that demand you sing along.

Cyanide compares love to poison with lyrics of “I feel the poison flowing / running through my veins / it’s my cyanide”. The chants of “hey hey hey” over the guitar solo are commanding.

It’s a dynamic, passionate track. With You Forever features melodic guitars, a loud and muddy bassline, and an impressive guitar solo. Love Me Tonight is another song that showcases the groovy bass. Listening, you can hear how this album is polished in all the right ways.

Everything is crisp from the guitars to the vocals. Out in the Wild fits its title – with an introduction of police radio sounds against guitars, precise drums, and heavy, melodic guitar solos, it’s one of my favourite tracks.

The final track, Restless Revolution, has a slightly different touch to it, yet it’s still distinctively King Zebra. It has a funky, retro feel with the guitar riff and unique percussion.

Between the Shadows nicely showcases King Zebra’s distinctive and polished sound. It’s definitely worth listening to upon its release on 12th April

I’ve waited a long time to hear this one, after enjoying the lead up singles over the last months I knew it would be good, but you know what? This has to be one of the best of the year!

Opening up with the great riff, groove and drive of the eminently singable ‘Under Destruction’ if you like old-school Blues-tinged Hard and Heavy Rock and Roll then you’ll love what Switzerland’s King Zebra have put together here. ‘She Don’t Like My R’n’R’ is of course maybe even better, slower, groovier and catchier it shows you in just two track that these guys are seriously good.

‘Desperate’ ups the pace and ticks the boxes yet strangely for me is the only track her that fails to really excite. That can’t be said for the wonderful ‘Wall Of Confusion’ which features a guest vocal from Thundermother’s Guernica Mancini – it’s wonderful stuff and one of the real highlights, but there’s plenty of competition!

‘On the Run’, another song that looks back to the good old days (which is a bit of a recurring theme here) is another sweeping melodic winner, and ‘Rush’ which adds a touch of atmosphere and some wonderful guitar is maybe even better. ‘Hot Cop Lady’ too hits the spot and makes you remember when rock was just plain and simple fun. This is an 80’s Rocker as good as we had ’em back in the day!

‘We’re the Survivors’ that leads the charge home, is perhaps the most Melodic of anything here, and whilst the vibe is a little out of kilter it’s an undeniably great song and rather reminds you of Danger Danger nd their ilk. Penultimate track ‘We Are One’ takes a heavier route and just lacks that killer punch but it’s an interesting direction. Closer ‘Be the Hunter’ is the big fat cherry on the top, made to be played loud and heard live! Great record!

King Zebra unveils their highly anticipated album, “ Between The Shadows ,” scheduled for release on April 12, 2024. The band hailing from the picturesque city of Zurich, Switzerland, emerges as the new face of rock in a harmonious fusion of youthful exuberance and veteran wisdom.

King Zebra burst into the music scene with their 2019 EP, a sonic voyage marked by the standout track “ Firewalker ,” amassing over 2 million streams and firmly establishing the band in the hearts of rock enthusiasts globally. Their presence soared as they graced renowned festivals like Rock the Ring and Rock of Ages , sharing stages with iconic acts such as Lynyrd Skynyrd , Uriah Heep , and Rose Tattoo .

In 2020, King Zebra embarked on a transformative journey to Crehate Studios in Gothenburg, Sweden, to craft their sophomore album, “ Survivors ,” under the skilled guidance of producer Oscar Nilsson . ATLANTA (AP) — The king and queen of the Netherlands began a four-day tour of the U.S. on Monday in Atlanta, where they paid tribute to the late Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and learned about the history of the church where he served as pastor.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were also scheduled to visit a music studio in the city that is a hub for hip hop artists.

The visit — and its focus on Black cultural sites — comes less than a year after the king apologized for his country’s role in slavery and asked for forgiveness during a historic and emotional speech in Amsterdam.

At the King Center, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, Bernice King, greeted the king and queen and walked with them to a marble crypt containing the remains of her father and mother, Coretta Scott King, where the couple lay a wreath. Civil rights leader and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young also attended the event.

Willem-Alexander called the visit “deeply moving” for the couple and said the “drive for emancipation among people of color” was a story of “pain and anger, but also one of pride, solidarity and the steadfast belief in peace and reconciliation.”

“In the Netherlands, too, the fight against discrimination and racism continues to command our full attention,” he said, reading from prepared remarks. “Martin Luther King inspires us never to give up. His voice continues to resonate even across the Atlantic.”

The couple later met with Black students at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where they learned about the church’s role in the Civil Rights Movement and the fight for racial justice. On Tuesday, they are scheduled to visit Savannah State University, the oldest public historically Black college or university in Georgia.

The trip also has an economic motive. In 2023, total trade between Georgia and the Netherlands was $2.9 billion, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

The king and queen met earlier Monday with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp at the state Capitol, where they and a delegation of Dutch business leaders planned to discuss economic cooperation.

They were scheduled to be on hand later for the opening of a new cold storage facility by Dutch company NewCold.

On Tuesday, they plan to visit the Port of Savannah. The trip concludes with a visit to New York on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kicking off (literally) on June 20, the legendary international Copa América tournament is taking place at U.S. stadiums for just the second time in its 108-year history.

Major squads set to compete at the 16-team round robin tourney include Lionel Messi’s 2022 World Cup winners Argentina , streaky Colombia (who have won 22 straight matches), the always competitive Brazil and, of course, the United States .

New York and New Jersey fútbol fans are in luck, too. A trio of matches will take place at East Rutherford, NJ’s MetLife Stadium over the course of the 25-day tourney.

First up,  Chile and Argentina  square off on Tuesday, June 25. After that,  Uruguay and Bolivia  meet up on Thursday, June 27. Finally, a  TBD Semifinal  hits the Meadowlands on Tuesday, July 9.

Other notable can’t-miss matches spread out over the US include Argentina vs. Peru at Miami Garden, FL’s Hard Rock Stadium on June 29, USA vs. Uruguay at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium on July 1 and Brazil vs. Colombia at Levi’s Stadium on July 2.

When all is said and done, the Final will take place at Miami Garden, FL’s Hard Rock Stadium on July 14.

And if you want to be at the match of your choosing, it isn’t too late to snag last-minute tickets to witness fútbol history live.

At the time of publication, some Copa América seats are going for as low as $41 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Other matches have tickets starting anywhere from $47 to $659 before fees.

As Regional Dive Officer, I always wondered if I would get the call, "Can you activate the dive team and respond to a mission critical request from the Regional Office in less than 48 hours?"

Recently, this scenario came to pass. The orders were, "All other work priorities are to be postponed, and this mission is the highest priority." How important is it to maintain dive readiness? Extremely! Questions quickly ran through my mind: What is the mission? Is it safe to dive? Who is available? How will they get there? What will they need to accomplish the objectives?

I knew everyone on the dive team would want to support the mission, but with the travel window so short, who would be available to do it? Unfortunately, even I was limited by family responsibilities and was not available to travel. Well, it so happens that in Region 4, we are fortunate to have an amazing team to choose from.

Quickly, calls went out and responses came in. Four divers were able to change work and/or personal plans to provide assistance. Shout out to Tyler Hern (TN), Thomas Inebnit (AR), Jenna King (AL), and Bill Tate (FL). These divers accepted the call on a Tuesday afternoon, traveled all day from their home stations on Wednesday, went diving on Thursday, and traveled back on Friday.

What is the mission, you ask? Let me tell you.

The Challenge

Sightings of invasive zebra mussels ( Dreissena polymorpha ) were reported in a recreational dive quarry in Region 4. Their unwelcome presence can destroy ecosystems and cost millions of dollars. Learn more about invasive species heard of this report and was very concerned; the state agency reached out to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Regional Office in the Southeast to request if any individuals on the dive team were able to conduct dive surveys in the quarry as soon as possible. Due to the highly sensitive nature of potential positive results, any biological samples from the dive operation were closely monitored by both state and federal wildlife officers. The management of the dive quarry also limited the ability of the divers to be allowed on the property, only allowing them access one day from 12pm - 5pm. When it comes to aquatic invasive species, rapid response is critical for early detection and implementation of control and containment measures. Time was of the essence.

Challenge Accepted

Divers prepared gear and rolled out, arriving close to the destination on Wednesday evening within 24 hours of activation. The next morning, the team assembled with state representatives to discuss dive safety, sampling protocols, and chain of custody for samples. Then, everyone proceeded to the dive quarry to execute the dive plan.

During the first dive, the divers split into two teams with one team collecting eDNA water samples for cross-verification, and the other team starting visual searches. After nearly an hour of intensive searching, the divers were able to locate positive samples of zebra mussels on the first dive. Following a surface interval to offload gas nitrogen in their bodies and exchange SCUBA cylinders, the divers continued to visually inspect for zebra mussels on a second dive. The team found even higher zebra mussel densities and spent more time collecting additional water samples, taking photos, and documenting the infestation.

Although it is unfortunate that zebra mussels were found in the quarry, the dive team members were composed and professional, executed the dive plan flawlessly without incident or injury, and were able to provide a much-needed service to the state agency. Our divers traveled from multiple states and verified the presence of zebra mussels within 48 hours of the initial request for assistance.

So, when I ask, "How important is it to maintain dive readiness?" Extremely!
