Description [ | ]

For each suspended card you own and each permanent you control with a time counter on it you may add or remove a time counter. This way, cards with Suspend are accelerated, while cards with Vanishing stay around longer, or the other way around if needed. Some cards in the set use time counters as generic trackers, which can also be manipulated with time travel.

Time travel acts like proliferate with the unbound selection of cards and counters, but it is modified to encapsulate suspended cards in exile. Additionally, it can also remove counters, but it cannot affect an opponent's cards.

From the Comprehensive Rules (April 12, 2024— Outlaws of Thunder Junction )

  • 701.54a To time travel means to choose any number of permanents you control with one or more time counters on them and/or suspended cards you own in exile with one or more time counters on them and, for each of those objects, put a time counter on it or remove a time counter from it. See rule 702.62, “Suspend.”

Rulings [ | ]

  • If you're instructed to time travel, for each suspended card you own and each permanent you control with a time counter on it, you may add a time counter to it or remove a time counter from it. You make this choice for each one individually. For any of those cards or permanents, you may also choose to leave it be. Those changes all happen simultaneously.
  • A suspended card is a card you've put into exile via the suspend ability.
  • If a card with suspend is in your hand, any time you could cast it, you may pay its suspend cost and exile it with the specified number of time counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter from it, and when the last is removed, you cast it from exile without paying its mana cost. If it becomes a creature, the creature has haste.
  • Time counters are usually found on cards with suspend and vanishing, but may be found on other cards as well. Notably, Sagas use lore counters to track their progress, not time counters. You can't move a Saga's chapters forward and backward this way.

What is Time Travel in MTG and how does it work?

Image of Jose Pedro Eichenseer

With the recent release of Universes Beyond BBC Doctor Who set in Magic: The Gathering , players have been introduced to a brand new mechanic: Time Travel. The Tenth Doctor and his Timey-Wimey deck are arguably the most powerful and most popular of all four preconstructed Commander decks. Hence, players should expect to see the Time Travel ability quite a bit in the upcoming weeks and months.

The Izzet-colored Timey-Wimey deck is one out of four preconstructed Commander decks released during this set and it heavily focuses on the concept of time manipulation. Speaking of manipulating time, let’s slow down and get the basics out of the way first. What is Suspend, what is Vanishing, and how do Time Counters work?

What are Time Counters in MTG?

Time Counters in MTG are inherently different from other types of counters in Magic . They specifically represent the passage of time and are used in conjunction with the Suspend mechanic .

Most other counters are used to track things like power and toughness on creatures, loyalty counters on planeswalkers, or charge counters on artifacts. Each type of counter serves a distinct purpose within the game. Up until very recently, time counters were hard to manipulate. That all changed with the new Time Travel mechanic.

Cards with Suspend in MTG

Hypergenesis

  • Mana Cost: –
  • Type: Sorcery
  • Rarity: Mythic Rare
  • Ability: Suspend 3 – 1GG. Starting with you, each player may put an artifact, creature, enchantment, or land card from their hand onto the battlefield. Repeat this process until no one puts a card onto the battlefield.

Suspend allows the player to move the card into exile with time counters instead of playing it directly. While in exile, the card loses one time counter at the beginning of a player’s upkeep , which is at the beginning of his or her turn. When the last time counter is removed, the spell resolves.

Some of the most popular Suspend cards include Ancestral Vision , Crashing Footfalls , Hypergenesis , and Living End . The one thing they all have in common is they do not have a Converted Mana Cost at the top right corner of the card.

Therefore, the Suspend cost is not presented as an alternative cost but as the only way to cast the spell . Famously, Cascade strategies take advantage of these cards by casting them for free with the Cascade mechanic.

Cards with Vanishing in MTG

Crack in TIme

  • Mana Cost: 3W
  • Type: Enchantment
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Ability: Vanishing 3 (This enchantment enters the battlefield with three time counters on it. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a time counter from it. When the last is removed, sacrifice it.) When Crack in Time enters the battlefield and at the beginning of your precombat main phase, exile target creature an opponent controls until Crack in Time leaves the battlefield.

Cards with Vanishing are different from cards with Suspend. They too have time counters on them, but instead of exiling the card and waiting for it to be cast, these cards are played normally like any other MTG card.

Like Suspend cards, the player removes one time counter from the card at the beginning of their upkeep. When the last Time Counter is removed the player is sadly forced to sacrifice the permanent .

Time Travel in MTG

All of History, All at Once

  • Mana Cost: 2UU
  • Ability: Time Travel (For each suspended card you own and each permanent you control with a time counter on it, you may add or remove a time counter.) Storm (When you cast this spell, copy it for each spell cast before it this turn.)

For the first time in MTG history, there is now a mechanic that expressly plays around with time counters. Time Travel allows the player to choose whether to add or remove time counters from the permanents they control or suspended cards they own in exile. This is an extremely powerful ability for both Vanishing and Suspend cards .

For the most part, Vanishing cards are creatures and enchantments considered too good for such a small investment. Vanishing helps to keep them in check by forcing the player to sacrifice them when the time comes. Not anymore; with Time Travel you can continue adding time counters to your permanents, thus keeping them on the battlefield indefinitely .

Time Travel works like a charm on cards with Suspend. Players can now remove Time Counters to cast their spells much sooner . Cards such as Ancestral Vision, Mox Tantalite, Profane Tutor, Delay, and many more become much more attractive to play if they lose one or more time counters. If a player is able to use the Time Travel mechanic efficiently more than once, it could greatly change the game to their benefit.

Each new Universes Beyond set has brought with it new and exciting mechanics to spice things up for MTG players. BBC Doctor Who is no exception, and the Time Travel mechanic will certainly speed things up in Commander games.

MTG Keywords Explained: What is Time Travel in Magic: The Gathering?

Wibbly wobbly timey-wimey!

By Emma Partlow | @emmadpartlow | Published 10/17/2023 | 2 min read

Brand new for Universes Beyond: Doctor Who, Time Travel is an exceptionally flavorful way to manipulate the speed you cast spells in Magic: The Gathering. With all the wibbly wobbly timey-wimey nonsense that goes on in Doctor Who, being able to utilize Time Travel with the Doctor Who Commander Precons is a surefire way towards victory!

What is Time Travel in Magic: The Gathering?

magic time travel

Time Travel is a fun way to make the most of spells that are in exile with time counters, such as Suspend , Vanishing, or any other permanent you control with a time counter. With Time Travel, you can accelerate Suspend cards so they can be cast ahead of schedule, and keep Vanishing cards in exile for longer, or even do this the other way round if needed! So for example, if you happen to have The Tenth Doctor in play and Ecstatic Beauty on Suspend with three time counters on it, you can activate Tenth Doctor's ability to Time Travel three times, where you can remove three counters from Ecstatic Beauty to cast the spell!

In essence, Time Travel acts similarly to Proliferate but with an unbound selection of cards and counters, but it is modified to interact with Suspend cards in exile. In addition, Time Travel can also remove counters so you can cast spells with Suspend (that are in exile) much quicker, but it cannot affect an opponent's card.

How to Play With Time Travel

magic time travel

Suspend and Vanishing are historically tricky keywords to play with in Magic, but Time Travel allows you to alter the course of time and delay (or hasten) to cast these exiled spells. Here are a few things to bear in mind when playing with the timey-wimey keyword:

  • If you are forced to Time Travel, for each suspended card you own and each permanent you own with a time counter on it, you may add or remove a time counter from it. You make the choice individually, where you can choose to remove time counters on certain cards and add them on others as the Time Travel ability resolves.
  • A suspended card is a card you've put into exile via the Suspend ability.
  • If a card with Suspend is in your hand, any time you could cast it, you may the Suspend cost and exile with the specified number of time counters that are on the card. At the beginning of your upkeep, you must remove a time counter from it, and when the last counter is removed, you cast the spell from exile without paying its mana cost. if the suspended card is a creature, it has haste.
  • In most cases, time counters appear on cards with Suspend and Vanishing, but feature on other cads as well. As there may be some confusion, Enchantment Saga cards use lore counters and not time counters, which cannot be used in conjunction with Time Travel.

Magic: The Gathering Doctor Who – How Time Travel Works

Image of Scott Baird

The Magic: The Gathering and Doctor Who crossover will introduce the Time Travel mechanic to the game and its associated Time Counters. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans of the show, as Doctor Who is a science-fiction show centered around traveling across time and space, with the various incarnations of The Doctor visiting almost every important moment in human history.

Time manipulation is not a new concept for Magic: The Gathering. Indeed, two of the earliest banned cards in the game are Timetwister and Time Walk, being members of the infamous Power Nine, alongside Magic: The Gathering’s incredibly expensive Black Lotus card . Timetwister lets you shuffle your hand and graveyard into your deck and then draw seven cards for only three mana, while Time Walk let you take an extra turn for the cost of two mana, both of which are considered overwhelmingly powerful effects for their cost.

How Time Travel & Time Counters Work In Magic: The Gathering’s Doctor Who Crossover Set

magic time travel

On a basic level, the Time Travel keyword lets you add or remove Time Counters on cards in play . Time Counters are used with two existing mechanics: Suspend and Vanishing. Time Travel is linked to suspended cards and can help speed up or slow down the effect, keeping to the most common Doctor Who storyline. It bears mentioning that Time Travel usually only affects one card per turn, rather than each card in play with Time Counters on them, but the number of counters can vary, as The Tenth Doctor can do it three times with his Timey-Wimey ability.

The Suspend mechanic lets you play a card for a much lower cost , but they are exiled from play with several Time Counters on them. At the start of your upkeep, you remove one of those Time Counters, and when they’re all gone, the card is played onto the field. The idea is that you are getting a card for cheap, but you have to wait for it. The Time Travel cards can hasten this process.

Suspend debuted in the Time Spiral set, but it will appear on new cards in the Doctor Who crossover. The Tenth Doctor’s Companion, Rose Tyler, will also be tied to the Time Counter mechanic, as she gains one whenever she attacks, with each adding a +1/+1 to her stats. This means The Tenth Doctor can empower Rose Tyler with his effect.

It’s fitting that Time Counters play such a big role in The Tenth Doctor’s Commander Deck, especially as he’s the one Doctor who never seems to stay dead. His Timey-Wimey Time Travel effect is expensive to use, but it has the potential to pay off big time if used at the right moment.

Time Travel Has Always Been A Magic: The Gathering Staple

The new Doctor Who Universes Beyond set will have time travel as a mechanic, but it's not the first time Magic: the Gathering has gone timey-wimey.

Time travel is being introduced as a mechanic in Magic: the Gathering with the new Doctor Who Universes Beyond set based around the temporal hopping adventures of that universe. While Time Travel is a new mechanic in the game of Magic , time manipulation in general has been relevant throughout Magic 's history as both a mechanic and a story element.

In fact, time magic and its consequences have had an exceptionally prominent role in Magic 's story, from travel through time to long periods of temporal stasis. However, that magic has always been firmly mystical in nature, and when they strayed into sci-fi they did so with fantasy trappings. By being more firmly sci-fi, the Doctor Who set brings a new twist to time travel in Magic . The set also promises to revisit some of the coolest time travel mechanics from the past.

Teferi and Dominaria

The most famous manipulator of time magic in Magic history is Teferi. Teferi hails from Dominaria, one of Magic 's most historic planes. He has had several cards, always as a blue planeswalker or creature and often as a multicolor Blue/White planeswalker. Generally, his cards contribute to slow and controlling gameplans by limiting when opponents can cast spells, removing permanents, or drawing more cards. His most infamous card was Teferi, Time Raveler. This Teferi prevents opponents from casting spells at instant speed, which displays his mastery over time magic by thematically freezing opponents. He also has cards that influence when and how often players can activate planeswalker abilities, influencing what players can do in a turn, which is the basic unit of time for the game.

Teferi's claim to fame is the Phasing of Zhalfir, where he managed to put his home country of Zhalfir out of phase with the rest of Dominaria's timeline during the first Phyrexian Invasion. Zhalfir would eventually return to the normal flow of time in one of the big moments of the March of the Machine storyline. During March of the Machine , the Phyrexians were performing another invasion, but this time of the entire Multiverse at once. The dryad planeswalker Wrenn managed to reconnect Zhalfir with the Multiverse as a whole, swapping its position with New Phyrexia. Zhalfir's residents had only experienced a decade of time in the many years since the Phasing of Zhalfir and were still preparing for the first Phyrexian Invasion. As a result, they were able to contribute to the war effort immediately. This was one of the more interesting twists of the March of the Machine storyline as it effectively brought back a culture that had been sealed off from the rest of the Multiverse.

Other examples of time travel exist on Dominaria as well, most of them centered around the Phyrexian Invasion. One of Magic 's most legendary Planeswalkers, Urza, used his incredible skill with magic artifacts to create a time machine in order to try and stop the first Phyrexian Invasion. While this has never really been represented in a card, it did lead to the creation of the iconic planeswalker Karn, a metallic golem with sentience. Commodore Guff is another example of someone who could manipulate time on that plane. Guff is a planeswalker who gained access to a library of all the information in the multiverse, including information about future events in the timeline. Guff was convinced to change some of these events to give the Dominarians a chance against the Phyrexians. This moment was recently referenced in a card from the new Commander Masters set called Guff Rewrites History.

Tarkir and Alternate Realities

Tarkir was a plane introduced in 2014 with the Khans of Tarkir set. In Khans of Tarkir , the dragons of the plane all died out after years of being hunted by the Khans of the Five Clans of Tarkir, groups aligned with three colors of magic. The Clans were not to last, however. The planeswalker Sarkhan Vol wished to return the dragons to his home, and so traveled back in time to the fateful duel between the powerful draconic planeswalkers Ugin and Nicol Bolas that effectively decided the war between the Dragons and the Khans. He managed to save Ugin and thereby change the future of Tarkir. In this new timeline, the dragons had an exceptionally powerful planeswalker dragon to protect them. This split between the two realities was represented by the Fate Reforged set, which depicted the period of War between Khans and Dragons that Sarkhan went back to, and then the final Dragons of Tarkir set where the Clans of Khans of Tarkir had been replaced by two-color Dragon Clans.

The Tarkir block was an exciting experiment with alternate realities and time travel well after much of the crazy time travel of Dominaria. The Khans of Tarkir block is best summed up by the card Crux of Fate, which represented the fateful showdown between Nicol Bolas and Ugin and how each outcome would lead to the destruction of the Dragons or the Khans respectively. While the block structure was beginning to wear out its welcome, the Khan's storyline was perhaps the most inventive use of time travel in Magic history.

Doctor Who and a New Take On Time Travel

In general, the Magic story in its early years was very experimental in blending science fiction and fantasy, especially on Dominaria. The Phyrexians are inspired by the artwork of H.R. Giger and deal with the horror of blending flesh and metal. The Brothers' War, a conflict that nearly destroyed Dominaria, was fought with industrialized machines and displayed the destruction of industrialized war in a fantasy setting. The whole multiverse in general is similar to scientific theories about alternate realities. However, recently Wizards of the Coast has been more focused on telling more traditional fantasy stories in the Magic multiverse. While some sci-fi elements remain, they have largely been those grandfathered into the setting like the Phyrexians. Tarkir was the first instance of major time travel in a long time and an experiment with the way Wizards told unfolding stories through Magic cards.

But Doctor Who is not a part of Magic: the Gathering 's storyline, instead it is part of a crossover set. While Magic was no stranger to time travel, it was never quite as sci-fi as Doctor Who . While sets like Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty have explored sci-fi subgenres like cyberpunk as an aesthetic, Magic still does so within the trappings of fantasy. Even Warhammer 40,000 was more science-fantasy than science-fiction. Doctor Who is science fiction through and through, and so it will be interesting to see if the set perhaps encourages Magic to explore those more experimental sci-fi roots.

So far, it appears to be a good fit. Time Travel, a key mechanic in the Doctor Who set, manipulates the time counters on Suspend cards to either make them resolve earlier or later. In effect, players are either traveling into the past, making these cards resolve later, or into the future, and making them resolve sooner. Playing with the time mechanics of the game itself is a good way to represent this strange new form of time travel in Magic: the Gathering .

History

Time Travel

"Don't you understand? We're breaking one of the most important wizarding laws! Nobody's supposed to change time, nobody!" -- Hermione Granger ( PA21 )

Time Travel

Time travel is an extremely dangerous magical effect which allows a person to travel back in time. Because of the potential for catastrophe should history be altered, time travel is all but forbidden in wizarding society. Certain magical devices can be used for time travel, but access to them is strictly controlled.

References from the canon

  • Hermione once used a Time-Turner to repeat hours of the day and take more classes than would otherwise have been possible ( PA21 ).
  • The Pensieve and Tom Riddle's diary allowed a form of time travel, although the person or persons traveling were not actually part of the time they entered. Instead, they became observers, unseen and unheard. This form of time travel is tied to stored memories and the traveller views the past from a vantage point near the person whose memories are used. This form of time travel might be better termed "memory travel." ( CS13 , CS17 , GF30 , OP28 , HBP10 , HBP13 , HBP17 , HBP23 , DH33 )
  • Time is studied in one of the rooms of the Department of Mysteries; a Death Eater whose head fell into a huge bell jar in that room was changed from the neck up into a baby ( OP35 ).

Lore:Time Magic

magic time travel

Time Magic also known as time travel magic , [1] time alteration , and chronomancy , [2] is a type of magic which involves the manipulation and perversion of time. Manipulating time is notoriously difficult, with most known successes being entirely accidental or full of unintended, and very dangerous, consequences. This could lead to various outcomes, such as the birth of individuals who did not exist in another timeline, or the lives of different people taking unexpected turns. [3] [4]

magic time travel

Another potential consequence of mages attempting to contain temporal distortion is the possibility of becoming subject to multichronal existence—a state in which one experiences existence at multiple points in time simultaneously. One such individual was Saresea, a member of the Psijic Order who intervened at the settlement of Bal Sunnar. [5] [6]

The most notable and most devastating examples of time manipulation in history are known as Dragon Breaks , the most prominent of which being the Middle Dawn . [7] This disaster was caused when the Marukhati Selective attempted to remove elven aspects from the Dragon God of Time, Akatosh , [8] but instead wound up destroying linear time entirely for the equivalent of one thousand and eight years. Observers described it as a time of chaos and confusions, where all laws of reality were broken and causality did not matter. [9] As such, most tried to steer away from causing such events going forward. The Psijic Order in particular took an active role in attempting to prevent future Dragon Breaks, regularly interfering when it seemed that time was fracturing. [10]

Others, however, are unswayed by the dangers and have continued to attempt manipulating time, typically at a smaller scale than a Dragon Break. Sorcerers throughout history have often used powerful Tower -based artifacts such as the Numidium or the Staff of Towers to, either intentionally or unintentionally, alter the current timeline. [11] [10] Some have traveled through time through simpler and relatively safer means, such as entering and exiting Oblivion , where causality is not always concurrent with Nirn . The downside with this tactic is the unpredictability and unreliability of when you might end up. [12] [13] Others have relied on the power of Daedric Princes to corrupt time, such was the case with Hermaeus Mora's library of time-traveling books in Shadowfen . [14] Tonal Architecture has also been used repeatedly to send people and objects across space and time, both by Dwemer devices [15] and Elhnofex inscriptions. [16] During the Dragon War , the Nords used an Elder Scroll to fling Alduin thousands of years forward in time. [17] [18]

Worshippers of Alkosh are known to create hourglasses capable of time manipulation via sacred ritual. Focusing on the time-lost sands within such an hourglass causes local perception of time to shift, making it seem as if time is standing still. [19] [20]

Some inhabitants of the Shivering Isles were known to practice chronomancy. They could use this ability to slow one's heart rate, breathing, movements, and even thoughts. [2]

ChronomancerTimeTravel

A spellcaster uses time travel to escape from his enemies.

Time travel was the means by which an individual, a group of people, or even an entire city could travel backward through time to experience a previous year in any time decades or even centuries prior. They could see their home as it was years past or even visit an ancient civilization of which they were only somewhat familiar. [note 1] It was an extremely difficult and demanding feat that came with great risk to anyone involved. [1] [2]

Time travel was distinctly different from seeing into or predicting the future, a power that was granted by magical school of divination . [3]

Description [ ]

Restrictions [ ].

Time travel was strictly regulated by deities of the Realms . In the ages before and up to the fall of Netheril , Mystryl , the ancient goddess of time and magic, allowed no being to change the "stream of time". This law generally held, save for a single manner of her choosing, the time conduit , and was omniscient to any anomalous events that attempted to bypass her law. [1]

Limitations on time travel continued under the goddess' successors, the two incarnations of Mystra , and her allies Oghma and Deneir , for at least the next 1700 years. [4] Mystra lent certain powers to her daughters, the Seven Sisters , along with a select few of her Chosen and other great spellcasters , to empower them to help monitor chronomancers in Faerûn and prevent them from changing or creating any new timelines. [5] It was unknown what role if any Chronos , the Orvan god of time, played in this role. [6]

It was impossible for a being to travel in time on another plane of existence , specifically the Demiplane of Time , and then return to the crystal sphere of the planet Toril , or its predecessor Abeir-Toril . [1]

Consequences [ ]

Many sages believed that if an individual altered a crucial or decisive event, they could alter the "stream of time" and begin the formation of a new timeline, one that could be markedly different from the one they have known. [1] Some believed that travel from one timeline to another was wholly impossible even for the gods , as they could not perceive of such different realities. [4]

Some scholars believed there was some unperceived power greater than the gods that scrutinized these alternate timelines and made it their duty to ensure their wholeness. [4]

Chrono5

A chronomancer moves through the Temporal Prime.

Time-manipulation and time travel were often used by chronomancers, practitioners of arcane magic that focused on their own specific school of magic called chronomancy . These individuals tapped into the Temporal Prime , [7] a collection of timestreams, where one timestream represented a single reality. It was possible to travel from one reality to another via these timestreams, usually via temporal vortices. [8]

Most chronomancers native to the Realms were devotees of either the goddess of Mystra, or of the deities of history, Deneir and Oghma. In most instances they were devout guardians of historical knowledge and used their powers solely to gather information. [5]

The spacefaring illithid race was said to have traveled back from the "very end of time" when their civilization was on the brink of complete annihilation, to various different cosmologies across the multiverse. [9]

Means of Time Travel [ ]

The primary magical means of time travel was time conduit , an ancient chronomancy spell created by Mystryl that opened a temporary portal to another time. [1] The caster and their allies could venture through the conduit to a time and realm with which they were at least moderately knowledgeable, under the safeguards placed forth my Mystryl. Their journey would last for the duration of one year exactly, beginning on the year's first day and ending on its last. No individual could later return to that same year, lest the anomaly be detected and they were violently shot back in time up to an entire century, hundreds of miles away. [11] [12]

The time conduit spell required specific knowledge of the year or era during which the destination time occurred. As such, there were no signs it could be used to travel forward in time. [1] [11]

While it was believed by some that there were magical means to bypass the restrictions of the time conduit , [2] a spell originating form ancient Netheril belayed that notion. The transmutation spell teleport through time allowed a select group of people to travel back in time thousands of years, albeit with some temporal shift in their exact desired destination. It was possible that a being casting teleport through time could even encounter another version of themself in the same timeline. The explanation for this apparent exception to Mystryl's precise temporal rules remained unexplained as of the 14 th century DR . [13]

While not time travel per se , practitioners of chronomancy were able to temporarily cease the movement of time for a select number of beings using spells such as temporal stasis or time stop . [14] [15] [16]

Portals [ ]

The Realms were home to at least five time gates , permanent portals that allowed for time travel, [2] [17] and two very different portals that allowed for some limited form of time travel. [18] [19] As was demonstrated in at least one specific occurrence, the knowledge to create new portals was not entirely lost to time. [13]

Three time gates were recorded by the ancient of scholars of Mystryl, whose studies back to the time of ancient Netheril : [2] [17]

  • A cave set deep within the Spine of the World mounts in the North . [2] [17]
  • Atop the toppled apex of Misken's Peak , frozen beneath the Great Glacier . [2] [17]
  • In a cave within Mount Andrus in the Vilhon Reach ; current whereabouts unknown due to an erroneous transcription of the locale as "Andrio's Peak". [2] [17]

The fourth time gate known only by ten elves of the city of Chrysalis : [2]

  • Within a cave beneath a waterfall that fed Mirror Lake in Synnoria . [2]

A fifth time gate reconstructed by the Imperial Society of Historial Study for use in their study of ancient history: [20]

  • Hidden inside a monastery set deep within the Orsraun Mountains in Turmish . [21]

The constantly moving whirlpool associated with the goddess Umberlee :

  • The mysterious vortex called Umberlee's Fist was actually a traveling undersea portal that transported vessels across great distances, and due to its poor temporal anchoring, occasionally back in time. [18]

Finally, a malfunctioning portal created by an unnamed and unconventional wizard : [19]

  • Found in Triel , the one-way portal operated by Conrath Isthan would sporadically and repeatedly send its "passengers" centuries in the past to a singular moment, the summoning forth of a balor somewhere on Toril. [19]

At some unknown time and place, a group of powerful spellcasters known as the Weavers crafted the first of the black obelisks , powerful magical artifacts that were capable of transporting an entire city back in time. [note 2] The knowledge of their creation eventually passed down to the arcanists of ancient Netheril, who crafted a number of them for use on their great flying cities . [22] Mystryl's restrictions did not appear to affect this mode of time travel, as it was entirely possible to travel back directly to the beginning of Spring in some past year. [23]

After the fall of Netheril , the remaining black obelisks remained scattered across the Realms. [22] Known locations of their discovery included the Tomb of the Nine Gods in Chult , [24] the great dungeon-complex of Undermountain , [25] within the tunnels beneath Gracklstugh in the Underdark , [26] the ruined necropolis of Ythryn beneath the Great Glacier, [22] and even out on the open lands of the Sword Coast North . [27]

Psionics [ ]

Psionicist practitioners of the psychoportation discipline were capable of reversing or moving forward time in a limited scope for a matter of seconds, using powers such as time regression and time hop . It was unknown how if at all these powers were affected by the rules of limitation placed forward by Mystryl. [28]

History [ ]

At some point in history the Weavers created the original black obelisks, devices that had the power to change time and reality in profound ways. They were subsequently removed from all known existence by the being known as Vecna , and the knowledge of their creation remained only with the Oerthian lich -god. [22]

The legendary arcanist Jeriah Chronos was born in the in the −2207 DR , a date birth marked the beginning Netheril's Golden Age . The vain arcanist would formulate and craft his first time-manipulation spell a mere 68 years later , and begin the school of magic that carried on his name and legacy. [note 3] [29] Over the course of his life he became increasingly concerned about the arcanists' collective arrogance, believing that it would be the undoing of their great magocratic empire. [30]

At some point during the first three millennia of the Age of Humanity , the arcanists of Netheril recovered the specifications of the black obelisks originally created by the Weavers. They crafted a number of these powerful artifacts as a means to circumvent any catastrophic consequences they may have befell their empire. There was no recorded evidence that any of the obelisks were successfully used in that manner. [22]

The last known journey to recover one of the time gates was recorded to have occurred in the Year of Withered Flowers, 404 DR . [17]

Appendix [ ]

  • ↑ For the purposes of this article, time is referred to how it exists on the Prime Material Plane except where otherwise noted. Time is experienced differently on certain planes of existence .
  • ↑ Page 262 of Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden refers to "reset(ing) the world to a previous time", but for the purposes of this wiki is not taken as a literal statement.
  • ↑ According to page 62 of the 2 nd edition sourcebook Chronomancer magical school of Chronomancy was "discovered" by a number of different beings at a myriad of different locations across time and space. While its name may be attributed to its founder in the Realms, in other instances it may be mere coincidence.

Time Travel

  • Edit source
  • View history

Time Travel WP  (時間旅行, Jikan Ryokō ? ), is the process of traveling to a different time axis, typically through the power of the Magic . [1]

Characteristics [ ]

Timelines in Case Files

The nature of time in the Nasuverse.

The Second Magic , the Operation of Parallel Worlds, possesses the ability to actualize time travel. The Fifth Magic is also able to perform a form of it as a side effect, but time travel isn't its actual domain. [2]

Other processes [ ]

  • Holy Grail - Saber during the Fifth Fuyuki Holy Grail War believed she could use the Holy Grail to alter the past and save Camelot by preventing herself from pulling Caliburn out of the stone. [1] Francesca Prelati at least believed it would have worked, but implies that the Holy Grail Mud may time slip with her. [3] Romani Archaman likewise claims it is impossible to travel through time and change the past without a holy Grail. [4] In Fate/Grand Order Arcade , Draco used the Holy Grail to send Nebuchadnezzar II 's soul back in time to possess Gilgamesh 's corpse, where " Gilgamesh II " then began to expand Babylon , turning it into a city of sin. [5]
  • Rayshifting - Through Pseudo-Spiritron transference, individuals with aptitude can be projected into a different time axis. [6]
  • Hourglass Mystic Code - Kanata Akagi time travels after accidentally activating a Mystic Code prepared by Tsukumo Fujimiya . It is unknown how it performs the action. [7]

Unpacking the Magic of Minimalist Travel Packing: A How-to Guide for the Modern Wanderer

D o you ever find yourself hauling an overloaded suitcase up a flight of hotel stairs, panting and wishing you'd packed less? You're not alone. According to a survey conducted by OnePoll in 2019, 62% of travelers admitted to overpacking, with 34% saying they never wear all the clothes they bring. It's time to shed the extra weight and embrace the art of minimalist travel packing.

  • Less luggage means more freedom, ease, and enjoyment during your travel
  • The essentials-only packing list for minimalists
  • Expert tips and techniques for packing light
  • Benefits of minimalist packing for your travel and overall lifestyle

Lightening the Load: The Appeal of Minimalist Packing

Traveling light isn't just about saving on baggage fees. It's about simplifying your journey, enhancing your experiences, and adopting a mindful approach to travel. As Yogi Bhajan rightly stated, "Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light."

Packing Like a Pro: The Minimalist's Essentials

When it comes to minimalist travel packing, less is definitely more. However, what does 'less' actually look like? Here are some essentials that should make it to your packing list:

  • A capsule wardrobe comprising versatile pieces
  • Travel-size toiletries
  • A small bag of electronics like a phone, charger, and adapter
  • Important travel documents
  • A reusable water bottle and snacks

The Science Behind Packing Less

It's no secret that packing light is a game-changer for the modern traveler. Rick Steves, a renowned travel expert, articulates this belief, emphasizing that "packing light is essential for happy, hassle-free travel."

Packing Techniques for the Minimalist Traveler

Once you have your essentials sorted, the next challenge is to fit everything in your bag efficiently. Here's where packing techniques come into play:

  • Roll your clothes instead of folding them
  • Use packing cubes to organize your items
  • Wear your heaviest clothes on the plane to save space

Benefits of Minimalist Travel Packing

Adopting minimalist packing habits can revolutionize your travel experiences. Some of the benefits include:

  • Increased mobility
  • Less stress about lost or stolen items
  • Saving money on baggage fees
  • Greater focus on experiences rather than possessions

The Minimalist's Guide to Clothing

Packing clothing for a trip tends to be one of the most challenging aspects of minimalist travel packing. You want to look stylish , yet you also need to consider comfort, practicality, and varying weather conditions. Start with your absolute essentials, such as underwear and socks. Next, consider your activities. If you're hiking, pack appropriate gear. If you're dining at fancy restaurants, pack a versatile outfit that can be dressed up or down. Aim for a capsule wardrobe: choose clothing items in neutral colors that can be mixed and matched to create different outfits. Opt for lightweight fabrics that can be layered. Always remember that it's better to do a quick wash halfway through your trip than to lug around excess clothing.

A Deep Dive into Toiletries

Toiletries are another area where travelers tend to overpack. A key principle of minimalist packing is to embrace travel-size items. Most toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste can be bought in travel sizes or transferred into smaller containers. Another tip is to embrace multi-purpose items. For example, a bar of soap can be used for washing your body, face, and even your clothes in a pinch. Such mindful approaches not only save space but also promote sustainable travel practices.

The Art of Letting Go

The cornerstone of minimalist travel packing is the art of letting go. It's about releasing the fear of "what if I need this" and trusting that you'll be able to navigate any situation that arises. Embrace the journey with an open mind, carrying with you the essence of Yogi Bhajan's wisdom, "Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light". It's time to step out of your comfort zone, lighten your load, and embark on your travel adventure. Minimalist packing is not just about the stuff you leave behind; it's about the experiences and memories you make along the way.

Wrapping Up

By following these steps, you can transform your travel experience from a burdensome task into a joyful adventure. It's time to ditch the excess baggage and embrace the liberating art of minimalist packing.

How Much Do Disney Travel Agents Make Per Year?

If you’re considering turning your passion for Disney into a career as a travel agent, you might wonder how much Disney travel agents can make per year. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the annual income potential for Disney travel agents, the factors that influence their earnings, and insights from experienced agents in the industry. We’ll also discuss whether being a Disney vacation planner is worth it from a financial perspective and provide tips on becoming a Disney travel agent .

Understanding Disney Travel Agent Commissions

Disney travel agents earn money primarily through commissions paid by Disney for each booking they make. Disney typically pays travel agencies a 10% commission on Disney World vacations, which the agency then splits with the agent. Commission splits typically range from 50/50 for new agents to 80/20 for experienced agents , though some agencies might operate outside of that range. Splits are usually expressed as agent/agency; a 70/30 split means the agent gets 70% while the agency keeps 30%.

Examples of Commission Splits

To better understand how commission splits work, consider the following examples:

  • For a $4,500 Disney World vacation with a 60/40 split, the agent would earn $270
  • For a $7,500 Disney Cruise* with a 70/30 split, the agent would earn $525
  • For a $10,000 Adventures by Disney* package with an 80/20 split, the agent would earn $800

* (Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney: 10% base commission is common for most agencies. Some high-volume agencies might receive commission rates of up to 16% for cruises and adventures, which would also increase the amount you earn. Client incentives such as onboard credits are usually deducted from the total commission before the split is calculated, so you might earn a bit less in those cases.)

It is important to note that Disney travel agents receive a commission on tickets, accommodations, and most add-ons as part of a vacation package. However, they do not earn a commission on annual passes. Additionally, Disney travel agents do not receive payment for making dining reservations (but they do receive payment for booking Disney Dining Plans ).

Factors That Influence a Disney Travel Agent’s Annual Salary

First, let’s be clear: there is usually no actual salary for being a Disney vacation planner. Most agents work solely for commission (a percentage of the cost of each booking made), not for a salary (which is a fixed paycheck regardless of sales).

That said, several key factors play a role in determining how much a Disney travel agent can earn per year:

Booking Volume and Client Base

The number of bookings an agent makes directly impacts their annual income. Agents who consistently secure a high volume of reservations and maintain a loyal client base often enjoy higher yearly earnings. Building a strong network of clients through exceptional service, marketing efforts, and referrals is crucial for long-term success in the industry.

Average Trip Cost

The average cost of the trips an agent books also influences their annual income. Agents who specialize in luxury Disney vacations, such as Disney Deluxe Resort packages, VIP experiences, and high-end cruises, can potentially earn larger commissions per booking . Encouraging clients to book higher-value packages and upselling add-ons can significantly impact an agent’s annual bottom line.

At high-volume agencies, Disney Cruises may earn a higher commission rate than Disney World vacations

Commission Split with Agency

As agents gain experience and prove their value to their agency, they may have the opportunity to negotiate higher commission splits, leading to a greater annual income. Experienced agents with a proven track record of success can often secure more favorable splits, such as 70/30 or 80/20, which allows them to keep a larger portion of the commissions they earn. Note that it’s also common for splits to be higher on bookings where the agent finds the client, and lower on those where the agency provides the initial lead.

Graphs showing the difference between an 50/50 Commission Split and an 80/20 Commission Split

An agent with an 80/20 split earns $150 more on a $5,000 vacation than an agent on a 50/50 split

Full-Time vs. Part-Time

An agent’s work status – whether full-time or part-time – can significantly impact their yearly earnings. Full-time agents generally have more opportunities to secure bookings and build their client base, resulting in higher annual earnings. Part-time agents, while earning less overall, can still supplement their income and enjoy the flexibility of working in the travel industry on their own terms.

Income Potential for Disney Travel Agents

So, do Disney travel agents make good money ? Based on our research and discussions with experienced agents, a dedicated full-time Disney travel agent working with a reputable agency can realistically expect to earn $40,000 to $60,000 per year . However, top-performing agents who consistently secure high-value bookings and maintain a large client base can potentially earn $70,000 or more annually. Even $100,000+ is not unheard of, but is admittedly rare.

Let’s consider a few scenarios to showcase the potential range of annual earnings:

  • A part-time agent with a 50/50 commission split who books only ten trips with an average cost of $5,000 would earn $2,500 annually .
  • An agent with a 60/40 split who books 50 trips at the average cost of a Disney World vacation in 2024 ($6,559 for a family of four) would earn $19,677 per year .
  • An agent with a 70/30 split who books 75 trips with an average cost of $6,000 would earn $31,500 annually .
  • A top-performing full-time agent with an 80/20 split who books 125 trips with an average cost of $7,000 could earn $70,000 per year .

The earning potential of a Disney travel agent depends on the number of bookings, average trip cost, and commission split. The cost of a trip can vary based on the customer’s package, but the agent’s assertiveness, time investment, and agency choice largely determine their success. By controlling these factors, travel agents can increase their earning potential and achieve success in the industry.

Curious what you’d make in a year? Use our interactive calculator to estimate your income as a Disney travel professional .

Real-World Insights from Disney Travel Agents

We contacted experienced agents in the industry to provide a realistic perspective on how much Disney travel agents make per year. (We’re not publishing their last names because they have allowed us to publicly share their income data.)

Cheryl, a full-time Disney travel agent, shared her experience:

“I’ve been working as a Disney travel agent for five years, and last year I earned around $45,000. Building a strong network of clients and consistently delivering exceptional service has been key to my success. It’s important to remember that this career requires dedication and effort, but the rewards are well worth it.”

Aimee, a part-time agent, offers a different perspective:

“As a part-time Disney travel agent, I typically earn between $8,000 and $12,000 per year. While it’s not a full-time income, it’s a rewarding way to supplement my earnings while helping others create magical memories. I love sharing my passion for Disney with my clients and helping them plan their dream vacations!”

Can You Make a Good Living as a Disney Travel Agent?

When considering a career as a Disney travel agent, it’s essential to evaluate whether the annual income potential aligns with your financial goals and lifestyle. While the earning potential is attractive for dedicated full-time agents, it’s important to remember that building a successful business takes time, effort, and patience. Because there’s usually no set salary — only commission — you’ll need to allow time for your income to grow to a sustainable level.

Agents who treat their work as a true profession, consistently market their services, and provide exceptional customer service have the best chance of making a good living in the industry. As with any career, the more you put into it, the more you can expect to get out of it.

In addition to the financial aspects, many agents find the job rewarding in other ways. For example, Disney travel agents may receive free trips to Disney destinations, allowing them to experience the magic firsthand and better serve their clients.

Tips for Maximizing Your Annual Income as a Disney Travel Agent

To increase your annual income and build a thriving career as a Disney travel agent, consider the following tips:

  • Cultivate the essential character traits of a successful Disney travel agent , such as passion, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a willingness to go above and beyond for your clients.
  • Invest in the right equipment for Disney travel agents to work efficiently and professionally, such as a reliable computer, high-speed internet, and a dedicated workspace.
  • Market yourself   rather than relying solely on agency marketing. Not only will you get more bookings, but you might earn higher commission splits on bookings where you found the client versus those where the agency provided the lead.
  • Encourage clients to book higher-value packages and upsell add-ons — such as dining plans and special experiences — to increase your commissions and provide more comprehensive service.
  • Stay informed about Disney promotions, discounts, and new offerings to attract more clients and boost your booking volume. Regularly attend training sessions and webinars to expand your knowledge and stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends.
  • Provide exceptional service to your clients by being responsive, attentive, and genuinely invested in helping them plan their dream Disney vacations. Building strong relationships with your clients will lead to repeat business and valuable referrals.

The Bottom Line

To summarize, the amount of money earned by Disney travel agents annually depends on various factors such as the number of bookings made, the cost of trips, commission splits, and the level of dedication to growing their business. By focusing on these aspects, acquiring the necessary skills, and consistently promoting their services, agents can establish a satisfying and profitable career in the Disney travel industry.

Attaining success as a Disney travel agent necessitates time, effort, and a sincere passion for assisting others in planning their dream vacations. If you’re ready to take the plunge, you can start by researching agencies and preparing your Disney travel agent job application . By doing so, you can take the first step toward transforming your love for Disney into a flourishing profession.

The cast of Magic Mike : Where are they now?

Here's what Channing Tatum has been up to since busting out that pony dance (if you know, you know).

Claudette Barius/Warner Bros./Courtesy Everett Collection

Magic Mike burned up the screen when it hit theaters in 2012. Directed by Steven Soderbergh , the comedy-drama stars Channing Tatum as Mike, the proverbial stripper with a heart of gold, and exploits of the Kings of Tampa, an all-male revue. His well-oiled comrades include the Kid ( Alex Pettyfer ), Ken ( Matt Bomer ), Tarzan (Kevin Nash), and of course, Big Dick Richie ( Joe Manganiello ), who all carry a show run by the seductive and shifty Dallas ( Matthew McConaughey ). Mike introduces the Kid to this particular branch of show business, promising Adam's sister Brooke (Cody Horn) that he'd keep her brother out of trouble, but the Kid finds that the stripping lifestyle has its temptations — and dangers. The movie inspired two sequels, Magic Mike XXL (2015) and Magic Mike's Last Dance (2023), as well as a spinoff stage musical and reality TV show.

While Tatum originally conceived the film’s premise, based on his own eight-month experience as a male stripper, Magic Mike wasn't intended as a biopic. As the actor explained to EW in 2012, "This isn’t a movie about my life. [The plot] has nothing to do with me other than that there’s an 18, 19-year-old kid coming into this world. That’s it. [But] I think the world is pretty damn accurate. Everything you see in the movie is stuff that I saw."

Here’s what the Magic Mike cast has been up to since dancing (and stripping) their hearts out.

Channing Tatum (Mike Lane)

Claudette Barius/Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; River Callaway/WWD via Getty Images

Channing Tatum had the eponymous role as the ambitious and talented stripper "Magic Mike" Lane.

Tatum's breakthrough role came in 2006 with the dance film Step Up , where he met his future ex-wife, costar Jenna Dewan . Tatum also starred in She's the Man opposite Amanda Bynes in 2006, played Duke in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009), and shared the screen with Amanda Seyfried in Dear John (2010).

2012 was a big year for the actor; In addition to Magic Mike , Tatum starred in the rom-com The Vow with Rachel McAdams and the buddy-cop action comedy 21 Jump Street with Jonah Hill.

Next, Tatum jumped into a political action thriller, White House Down (2013) and reunited with Hill for the 2014 sequel 22 Jump Street . He also costarred with Steve Carell in the biographical sports film Foxcatcher in 2014. Tatum starred in and co-produced the sequel Magic Mike XXL in 2015 before appearing in Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), Free Guy (2021), and The Lost City (2022). In 2022, he directed his first film, the road-trip comedy Dog , which he also starred in. The movie also featured his Magic Mike costar Kevin Nash. In 2023, Tatum returned to the "stripperverse" to wrap up the story in Magic Mike's Last Dance.

Tatum has two upcoming films coming up in 2024: a romantic comedy set in the 1960s space race with Scarlett Johansson , and the thriller Blink Twice directed by his fiancée, Zoë Kravitz .

Tatum was married to Jenna Dewan from 2009 to 2019. Their daughter Everly was born in 2013. The former couple is currently in a legal dispute over Tatum’s Magic Mike profits . He started dating Zoë Kravitz in 2021, and they recently got engaged in October 2023.

Alex Pettyfer (Adam)

Claudette Barius/Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; Mark Sagliocco/Getty Images

Alex Pettyfer played Adam, a.k.a. "The Kid" who Mike took under his wing and introduced to stripping.

Pettyfer's first major film role was in the 2006 teenage spy movie Stormbreaker . In 2011, he starred in the Y.A. sci-fi movie I Am Number Four and the romantic fantasy drama Beastly with Vanessa Hudgens.

Following Magic Mike , Pettyfer appeared in the 2014 romantic drama Endless Love , the historical dramedy Elvis & Nixon (2016), and the crime drama Echo Boomers (2020).

Despite Adam's strong relationship with his "best friend" Mike, the character didn't return for the 2015 sequel, Magic Mike XXL , reportedly because of personal differences between Pettyfer and Tatum. "Channing Tatum does not like me," he told EW in 2015, "and for many reasons — many being my own fault."

Most recently, he's appeared in the 2024 vampire film Sunrise , and the upcoming spy comedy The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

In 2012, Pettyfer was briefly engaged to Riley Keough , who played Nora in Magic Mike . He married German model Toni Garrn in 2020, and the pair have a daughter Luca, born in 2021. Garrn announced their separation in April 2023.

Cody Horn (Brooke)

Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; Amanda Edwards/Getty Images

Cody Horn played the breakfast-loving Brooke, Adam's sister and Mike's love interest.

Horn had a recurring role in 2010 on the FX series Rescue Me and a brief arc on The Office in 2011. She appeared in a 2011 episode of White Collar , starring Magic Mike costar Matt Bomer, and the film Violet & Daisy (2011) with Saoirse Ronan and Alexis Bledel.

Following Magic Mike , Horn appeared in the 2012 action thriller End of Watch with Jake Gyllenhaal, her last role in a major film.

Olivia Munn (Joanna)

Claudette Barius/Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; Sarah Morris/WireImage

Olivia Munn played Joanna, Mike's on-again/off-again girlfriend who — apparently during an "off" period — acquired a fiancé.

Munn began her career in television in 2006 on the gaming network G4, notably the series Attack of the Show (2006–2010) before becoming a correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show (2010–2011) and landing a main cast role on the Aaron Sorokin political drama The Newsroom (2012–2014).

After Magic Mike , Munn costarred in the horror movie Deliver Us From Evil (2014) and the Gwyneth Paltrow comedy Mortdecai (2015). She played Psylocke in the superhero blockbuster X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Casey in the sci-fi action film The Predator (2018). The actress recently portrayed Thomas Edison in the 2021 Netflix comedy America: The Motion Picture and appeared in an episode of Tales of the Walking Dead in 2022.

Munn began dating comedian John Mulaney in 2021. Their son, Malcolm, was born in November 2021. She announced her breast cancer diagnosis via Instagram in March 2024 and shared that she had a double mastectomy.

Matthew McConaughey (Dallas)

Glen Wilson/Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; John Nacion/Getty Images

Matthew McConaughey played the strip club boss Dallas, who taught the Kid how to make love to a mirror.

For McConaughey, it was an easy decision to take the role, telling EW in 2012 , "I didn't really seek anyone's advice. This is one of the few times I've ever said yes to a part over the phone. It was [because of] who was talking to me. Soderbergh. He pitched this story and I was on two knees laughin' my ass off."

In 1993, McConaughey got his big break by playing Wooderson in Richard Linklate r's cult comedy Dazed and Confused , a much-loved role that was mostly improvised, including his classic stoner catchphrase, "Alright, alright, alright".

McConaughey soon began to take on more serious roles, including a heroic lawyer in A Time to Kill (1996). He costarred in the science-fiction movie Contact (1997), the historical drama Amistad (1997), and the submarine film U-571 (2000). The actor spent several years in popular romantic comedies including The Wedding Planner (2001) with Jennifer Lopez, and opposite Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Fool’s Gold (2008). He also notably starred in The Lincoln Lawyer (2011).

The same year as Magic Mike , McConaughey starred in the drama Mud (2012). He then won an Oscar for his lead role as a cowboy with HIV in Dallas Buyers Club (2013). A brief but iconic turn in The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) soon followed in which he memorably drums on his chest with Leonardo DiCaprio . The actor received an Emmy nomination for playing Rust Cohle in True Detective season 1 (2014).

Since then, McConaughey has starred in the science-fiction film Interstellar (2014), the animated musical comedy Sing (2016), the science fantasy adventure The Dark Tower (2017), the mystery thriller Serenity (2019), and the crime movie The Gentleman (2019).

McConaughey married Brazilian model and designer Camila Alves in 2012. They have three children: Levi, Vida, and Livingston.

Joe Manganiello (“Big Dick Richie”)

Claudette Barius/Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; Todd Williamson/NBC via Getty Images

Joe Manganiello plays “Big Dick Richie,” who demonstrates in silhouette how he earned his raunchy stripper name.

Manganiello was already well-known for playing the often-shirtless werewolf Alcide in HBO's vampire series True Blood when he auditioned for the Magic Mike role. "When I came in for a meeting with the casting director, she hadn't seen True Blood ,” he told EW in 2012 . “So she said, 'Are you going to be comfortable with partial nudity?' And I go, 'Have you seen my show? I'm the poster child for that.'"

Manganiello had early roles in superhero films Spider-Man (2002) and Spider-Man 3 (2007) as Flash Thompson before breaking big in True Blood from 2010 to 2014. He also had recurring roles on How I Met Your Mother (2006–2012) and One Tree Hill (2008–2010).

Following Magic Mike , Manganiello appeared in several comedies, including Pee-Wee's Big Holiday (2016), as well as action films like Sabotage (2014) and Rampage (2018). He's acted opposite Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson in 2023's comedy thriller The Kill Room . Manganiello also reprised his Big Dick Richie role in Magic Mike XXL (2015) and Magic Mike's Last Dance (2023).

Manganiello married actress Sofía Vergara in 2015; the couple divorced in 2024.

Matt Bomer (Ken)

Claudette Barius/Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; Michael Kovac/Getty Images

Matt Bomer brought the Kenergy to the Magic Mike films as a stripper with the body of a muscular plastic doll.

"The whole idea terrified me,” Bomer told EW in 2012 about playing a stripper. “That's part of why I wanted to do it — not just to work with these great actors and Steven [Soderbergh]. It pushed the envelope and made my family go, 'What?'"

Bomer began his career with roles in soap operas like All My Children and Guiding Light. He soon appeared in season 1 of the Fox supernatural drama Tru Calling (2003–2004) and had a recurring role on NBC’s action-comedy Chuck (2007–2009).

The actor's first lead television role was the USA Network’s police procedural White Collar , which starred Bomer as con artist Neal Caffrey (2009–2014). He scored an Emmy nomination for the HBO film The Normal Heart (2014), starred in American Horror Story seasons Freak Show and Hotel (2015–2016), and voiced Negative Man in the Max superhero series Doom Patrol (2019–2023).

In addition to reprising his Magic Mike role in both sequels, Bomer starred in the 2016 Ryan Gosling buddy comedy The Nice Guys .

Bomer recently played Hawk, a closeted gay State Department employee during the McCarthy years, in the Showtime miniseries Fellow Travelers (2023) opposite Jonathan Bailey , and appeared in Bradley Cooper’s Oscar-nominated film Maestro (2023). He also portrayed the Flash in several DC Animated Universe films, including Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths (2024) .

Bomer married publicist Simon Halls in 2011. The couple has three children: son Kit, and twin brothers Walker and Henry.

Adam Rodriguez (Tito)

Adam Rodriguez played the stripper Tito in all three Magic Mike films.

Rodriguez is best known for his lead role as Detective Eric Delko on the CBS police procedural CSI: Miami (2002–2012). He joined the cast of CBS' Criminal Minds as Luke Alvez in 2016.

He's also appeared in the TV miniseries Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (2020), and the comedy film Scrambled (2023).

Rodriguez tied the knot with model Grace Gail in 2016. They have three children: daughters Georgie and Frankie, and son Bridgemont.

Kevin Nash (Tarzan)

Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection; Gabe Ginsberg/Getty Images

Wrestling superstar Kevin Nash took on the role of beefy jungle-themed stripper Tarzan in Magic Mike and the sequels.

Nash's wrestling career included long stints with the WWE, World Championship Wrestling, and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. He won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship five times, along with many other contests and accolades.

The wrestler's first film was the 1991 action comedy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II , playing the mutated Super Shredder. He later enjoyed roles in The Punisher (2004), and The Longest Yard (2005). Since Magic Mike , Nash has also appeared in John Wick (2014), Chick Fight (2020), and Channing Tatum's directorial debut Dog (2022).

Nash has been married to his wife, Tamara McMichael, since 1988. Their son Tristen was born in 1996.
