Tour Details

According to a UNESCO article, the town of Ohrid is one of the oldest human settlements in Europe. Furthermore, it lies on the shores of Lake Ohrid, one of the oldest lakes in the world. In addition, for centuries Ohrid has been a crossway of different cultures, traditions, and the scene of different invasions.

Ohrid played a huge role in the spread of Slavic Orthodoxy which resulted in the town being called the “Jerusalem of the Balkans”. It had 365 churches, one for each day of the year, of which the oldest date back to the 11 th century.

What to Expect

On this day tour of Lake Ohrid starting from Tirana, we will be able to visit four major cities in Albania and North Macedonia. The main focus will be on Ohrid and its highlights, but we also are passing by Pogradec, Struga, and Tushemisht to get an impression of the atmosphere of these places. In addition, along the tour we will visit:

  • Samuel's Fortress in Ohrid
  • Church of St. John in Ohrid
  • Old Bazaar and Local Neighborhood in Ohrid
  • Monastery of St. Naum
  • Village of Tushemisht at the Albanian border

First Visit Samuel's Fortress in Ohrid

Leaving Tirana at 09:00 we will head toward the southeast of Albania. After crossing the Macedonian Border we’ll reach the first city, Struga, named after an ancient local legend of a young boy. Ohrid, situated next to Struga, on the shore of the same lake,  has for centuries been a place of clash of different cultures. Founded by ancient Illyrian and Greek tribes it was part of various empires and states throughout the ages, such as the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Kingdom of Bulgaria, the Ottoman Empire, the Kingdom of Serbia, and Yugoslavia, before recently becoming part of the Independent Republic of North Macedonia. Samuel’s Fortress situated on a hill near the old town of the city, was built under the rule of Bulgarian Tsar Samuil in the 10th century. It is believed that it was built on the settlements of an ancient fortification of 4 th century BCE, built by King Philip II of Macedonia.

Second Visit Church of St. John

Located on the cliff over Kaneo Beach overlooking Lake Ohrid in the city of Ohrid, the Church of St. John is dedicated to John of Patmos, the writer of Revelation, who has been by some considered to be the same person as John the Apostle.

Third Visit City Tour and Old Bazaar

Next, we are going to explore the city center and the neighborhood of the Old Bazaar where we will see the typical houses of Ohrid. Most of the city is paved in stone, the reason why it was first called Lyhnidas coming from the Latin language and meaning a precious stone that emits light.

4th Visit Monastery of St. Naum

After visiting Ohrid, we will drive toward the Monastery of Sveti Naum. This monastery was founded in the 10th century by the writer and missionary Naum who is buried here. It is considered a holy place where people from all over the world come to practice their religion. Furthermore, the monastery complex was part of Albania from 1912 – 1925 before it became part of Yugoslavia.

Visit at Tushemisht Leaving North Macedonia we will head toward Albania and stop at Tushemisht. Unlike in most villages in Albania, the main religion here is Orthodox Christianity, similar to Ohrid. After that, we will drive to Tirana where we will finish our tour.

Diddy 'sean diddy combs day' revoked miami beach says no more.

New fallout for Diddy from the Cassie video and sexual assault allegations -- the Miami Beach Commission is revoking "Sean Diddy Combs Day."

Diddy posted up with then-Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine during the 2016 Revolt Music Conference when he originally received the proclamation ... which the city's Commissioners voted to yank this week.

In fact, Diddy received the proclamation in October 2016 ... just 7 months after he was caught on surveillance video assaulting ex-GF inside an L.A. hotel. Of course, the general public -- and certainly not the City of Miami Beach -- knew that had happened until the video came out this year.

According to the Miami Herald , the MBC made the final decision this past Wednesday without any debate.

Miami Beach has long been Diddy's home ... his properties on Star Island were raided back in March and he's since been spotted out and about.

The Bad Boy Records mogul hasn't been charged but his trophy case has been getting cleared out ... he returned his key to New York City earlier this month!!!

King Charles in ‘Denial’ Over Planning of Foreign Tour in the Fall

King Charles’ reported decision to cancel the New Zealand leg of an autumn royal tour has not been announced yet, with the king leading the push to maintain a packed schedule.

Tom Sykes

Royalist Correspondent

A photo including King Charles III

Dan Kitwood / Getty

Clive Alderton, King Charles’s private secretary who was memorably nicknamed “the wasp” in Prince Harry’s memoir, has been in Australia in recent days, preparing the ground for his master’s forthcoming visit to that country, expected to take place in mid-October this year.

The absence of an Alderton sighting in New Zealand, however, has served as yet more evidence that Charles has now all but cancelled his tour of that country, which was to be bolted on to the Australia trip. A proposed trip to Fiji has also, reportedly, been shelved.

Buckingham Palace has not yet confirmed the cancellation, although even the prime minister of New Zealand came close to conceding the truth of the worst kept secret in diplomacy when he said this weekend that Charles had an “open invitation” to visit the country. Another lawmaker said, “If the royal visit is cancelled, New Zealanders will be typically reasonable about it.”

U.K. newspaper The Daily Mirror broke the news of the cancellation last week, saying it would be “a bitter disappointment on both sides,” but for now the Palace is sticking to the line that planning for the trip continues.

The Palace’s unwillingness to rush out an announcement is entirely understandable, given that they still hope Charles will be able to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) conference in Samoa despite his ongoing cancer fight. Courtiers will want to have a definitive schedule approved and signed off by the king and his doctors before they start rocking the boat.

As to why his office has appeared so intent on maintaining what many now believe is the fiction that he is still going to New Zealand and Fiji, another royal source told The Daily Beast: “They are in denial by continuing to say that planning for the overseas trip is full steam ahead, but the orders come from the top. Charles is optimistic and desperately wants to keep going with everything. Missing New Zealand is a great loss, and it will be a source of great regret for him, because to be honest he probably won’t be doing it again. But it’s frankly incredible that he is still doing Australia and that should be celebrated.

“Australia is such an important part of the Commonwealth that Charles feels it is absolutely non-negotiable. There is considerable popular antipathy to the entire concept of the British monarch being head of state there, and of course he doesn’t want to go down as the man who lost Australia. To go there when he is being treated for cancer wasn’t what he planned—but you could hardly think of a better way of letting Australians know how important they are to the crown.”

The Mirror also reported that the Australian tour is being reduced to six days—including a two-day break.

But Charles’ entirely unsurprising decision to cancel the New Zealand leg of the tour has raised questions about running a packed schedule while being treated for cancer.

A friend of the king told The Daily Beast: “Charles is keenly aware of the importance of a visit by the monarch, not just to a foreign country but to domestic charities and organizations. That is why he has been determined to do as much as he can, meet as many people as he can and support as many causes as he can. Sitting in splendid isolation in Balmoral with his feet up would not be good for his morale. But at the same time, if the doctors—and his wife—say no to something, he has to listen to them. I think that is what we are seeing now.”

The Daily Beast has previously reported that Queen Camilla is among those urging Charles to “slow down,” concerned he might exhaust himself and risk his recovery by taking on too many public engagements.

“She has been trying to encourage him to slow down,” one friend of the queen previously told The Daily Beast . “Of course, he wants to keep cracking on, but she is afraid that doing too much could set him back.”

Charles was diagnosed with cancer in February after a routine prostate procedure. He took several weeks off public-facing work but returned to public duties in April with the Palace saying his medical team had been sufficiently encouraged by his progress to allow it.

Guided Tours Gain Popularity Among Millennials and Gen Z

Jesse Chase-Lubitz , Skift

June 26th, 2024 at 12:29 PM EDT

A new survey by GetYourGuide found that 70% of respondents have a plan to book a guided tour in the next year.

Jesse Chase-Lubitz

Guided tours are experiencing a resurgence, with Millennials and Gen Z leading the trend, according to a new survey from Berlin-based GetYourGuide.

Of 1,000 U.S. individuals who traveled for leisure at least once in the past 12 months, 70% planned to book a guided tour for the next year, the survey found. Roughly two in five of Millennials and Gen Z travelers surveyed booked a guided tour in the past year, the results show – that’s 40% of Gen Z and 42% of Millennials compared to 22% of Gen X and 22% of Boomers.

“Across the board, we see travelers expressing interest in authentic experiences where local experts can unlock something deeper about a destination,” GetYourGuide’s chief marketing officer Emil Martinsek told Skift.

Authentic Experiences

Travelers seemed particularly drawn to tours that brought them closer to the society or geography they visited. They prioritized a deep dive into the history of a city or landmark, experiencing local cuisine, and the opportunity to meet locals.

Walking tours were most popular with bus or boat tours following closely behind.

Out of those surveyed, 89% of travelers believed that a local guide is essential for exploring a new destination.

An Ongoing Trend

The findings track with a previous report , published by research and events company Arival in January. This study showed that Millennials and Gen Z are prioritizing guided tours, from culinary and shopping tours to eco and adventure tours.

Arival’s 2024 U.S. Tour Taker Report found that the younger generation is shifting from sightseeing to experiential tours. Sightseeing tours remain the most popular overall, but that popularity is driven by people over the age of 55. Younger travelers are looking for something more active, experiential, or educational.

The trend is likely to stay positive. GetYourGuide’s latest study also showed that nearly all leisure travelers who booked a guided tour in 2023 plan to do so again this year.

Akshay Bhatia navigates fairway drain to share 36-hole lead with Aaron Rai at Rocket Mortgage Classic

Daily Wrap Up

Change Text Size

DETROIT (AP) — Akshay Bhatia shot a 5-under 67 that included a free drop after his golf ball fell into a fairway drain, good enough for a share of the 36-hole lead with Aaron Rai after the second round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Friday.

Bhatia's drive on the par-5 17th hole managed to fall into one of five holes in a metal drain cap that were just big enough to accommodate a golf ball. He ended up making par in his second straight bogey-free round at Detroit Golf Club.

Akshay Bhatia’s Round 2 highlights from Rocket Mortgage

Rai shot 65 to match Bhatia at 13-under 131 on a course that consistently yields low scores. The Englishman made seven birdies, including four in a five-hole stretch midway through the round, and capped his day with a 21-foot birdie putt on the 18th.

Aaron Rai lands tee shot softly with fairway wood and birdies at Rocket Mortgage

Neal Shipley, the low amateur at the Masters and U.S. Open, gave himself a chance to contend in his first PGA TOUR event as a pro. He was four shots back after a 68. Amateur Luke Clanton (68) was 7-under, flashing the talent he showed last season at Florida State, where he set a school record with a 69.3 scoring average.

The 22-year-old Bhatia chose to skip college and turned pro at age 17. He picked up his second PGA TOUR victory at the Valero Texas Open in April and is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Travelers Championship.

Rai, Montgomery and Young are each seeking their first PGA TOUR victory. Merritt and van Rooyen have each won twice.

Cameron Young’s Round 2 highlights from Rocket Mortgage

Bhatia, who opened with a 64 on Thursday to take a one-shot lead, started the second round on the par-4 10th and hit an approach from 112 yards to 3 feet for birdie. He made a 31-foot putt on the par-3 15th for his second of five birdies Friday.

Tom Kim, the highest-ranked player in the field at No. 16, followed up a first-round 73 with a 68 and missed the cut by a stroke at 3 under. After losing to Scottie Scheffler in a playoff last week in Connecticut, he may have run out of gas in the Motor City in his ninth straight tournament.

Miles Russell, a 15-year-old amateur from Jacksonville, Florida, shot 70 on Friday and missed the cut in his PGA TOUR debut at even-par 144 . Russell, the youngest player to make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour, will return to the Motor City next month for the U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills, where Tiger Woods' son, Charlie, will also be in the field.

Tour de France 2024: How to watch the cycling Super Bowl, full schedule, livestream info and more

The 111th Tour de France begins in Florence, Italy this Saturday, June 29. The annual long-distance race will bring together some of the biggest names in cycling, including two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard, Tadej Pogačar, Primož Roglič, Remco Evenepoel, Juan Ayuso, Carlos Rodríguez, Adam Yates, João Almeida and Matteo Jorgenson. The Tour De France will cover 2,170 miles across 21 days of racing, finishing in Nice on July 21. This year's Tour will be the first ever to not finish in Paris (due to the 2024 Olympics).

Want to tune into the 2024 Tour de France (AKA the cycling Super Bowl)? Here's everything you need to know about the cycling event, including the odds of who will take home the yellow jersey in 2024, where to stream the 2024 Tour de France and more.

How to watch the Tour de France from the US:

Stream the tour de france.

Tour de France dates: June 29 - July 21

Tour de France TV channel: NBC

Tour de France streaming: Peacock

How to watch the 2024 Tour de France without cable:

Starting at just $6 a month, a Peacock subscription is the easiest way to stream live sports and events airing on NBC, including this year’s Tour de France! On top of access to the Tour de France, the streaming platform is the home of the 2024 Olympics, and the easiest way to stream most live sports and events airing on NBC. You’ll also get access to thousands of hours of shows and movies, including beloved sitcoms such as Parks and Recreation and The Office . For $12 monthly you can upgrade to an ad-free subscription which includes live access to your local NBC affiliate (not just during designated sports and events) and the ability to download select titles to watch offline.

Is there a free Tour de France livestream?

Don’t want to pay for Peacock to watch the Tour de France? UK-based streaming platform ITVX will have a free livestream of their Tour de France coverage throughout the race. To access this free livestream though, you’ll need a VPN.

To watch ITVX from the US, you’ll need to sign up for a good streaming VPN and choose a UK server. From there, you should be able to watch ITVX totally free from the US.

A VPN (virtual private network) helps protect your data, can mask your IP address and is perhaps most popular for being especially useful in the age of streaming. Whether you’re looking to watch Friends on Netflix (which left the U.S. version of the streamer back in 2019) or tune in to a boxing match this weekend without paying the PPV prices, a VPN can help you out. Looking to try a VPN for the first time? This guide breaks down the best VPN options for every kind of user .

Stream free Tour de France coverage

ExpressVPN offers “internet without borders,” meaning you can catch free coverage of the 2024 Tour de France without shelling out for Peacock. All you'll need to do is sign up for ExpressVPN, change your server location to the UK and then find free livestream coverage on one of the streaming platforms mentioned above.

ExpressVPN’s added protection, speed and range of location options make it an excellent choice for first-time VPN users looking to stretch their streaming abilities, plus, it's Endgadget's top pick for the best streaming VPN . New users can save 49% when they sign up for ExpressVPN’s 12-month subscription. Plus, the service offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, in case you're nervous about trying a VPN.

Hiroyuki fujita holds the lead after cut-down day of the 2024 u.s. senior open, share this article.

NEWPORT, R.I.  — Hiroyuki Fujita said his first round of the U.S. Senior Open was lucky.

The Japan native threw luck aside on his second day at Newport Country Club.

Fujita finished with a 4-under 66 on Friday and 11 under for the tournament to claim sole possession of first place at the cut. And for the second straight day, Steve Stricker shot a 66 to finish near the top of the leaderboard.

“Haven’t seen this course in this wind before, and it was pretty steady wind right out of the chute for us today,” Stricker said. “It was a challenge; there are some holes that played a little bit easier. But some of the holes that played easy yesterday were difficult today.”

Hiroyuki Fujita is on some kind of run! 🇯🇵 23 holes played, 10 birdies and 0 bogeys for the U.S. Senior Open leader. pic.twitter.com/kRj5QbBfpT — USGA (@USGA) June 28, 2024

“It’s a long ways to go,” Stricker said. “We’re halfway, or at least I’m halfway done. There’s a lot of golf left to be played. Who knows, I haven’t looked at the conditions or the weather report going into the weekend. But I think that’s going to be the story here.”

Richard Green, of Australia, is still neck-and-neck with Fujita and finished 10 under for the tournament, one behind Fujita.

Tee times and groupings for Saturday’s third round have been adjusted due to anticipated heavy fog to start the morning. Golfers will play again in threesomes starting from the first and 10th tees on Saturday. The United States Golf Association usually plays in twosomes in the final rounds.

“Whatever I hit yesterday, I just hit the opposite club today,” Stricker said. “Just playing a totally different wind.”

Terry Francona on site

U.S. Senior Open honorary chair, Terry Francona, could be seen on Friday.

The two-time World Series-winning manager of the Boston Red Sox was following close friend Billy Andrade’s second round at Newport Country Club.

Francona is an avid golf fan and has rooted for Andrade since it was announced he was going to be the honorary guest.

“I’m going to try to, how do you say it, not steal a cart, get a cart and go watch Billy Andrade play some golf,” Francona said. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to be rooting for people this week, but [Andrade] and I have become really good friends.”

After Andrade hit a 6-under 64 on Thursday, the Bristol native followed with a Day 2 score of 74 to finish 2 under to make Friday’s cut.

“I know how much it would mean to [Andrade], but I am guessing it would be just about as much to the people in this area,” Francona said of his friend’s chance to win the tournament. “That would be really cool.”

Bensel does the unthinkable

Frank Bensel was in the first group on Friday morning and the Floridian began Day 2 with an immaculate start.

Starting on the front 9, Bensel sank a hole-in-one on the fourth hole, a 184-yard par 3.  The 56-year-old then repeated the feat on No. 5, a 203-yard hole, for back-to-back aces.

It was the first consecutive holes-in-one in USGA history.

“I’ve played a lot of golf in my life, and just to see a hole-in-one in a tournament is pretty rare,” Bensel said. “For me to have that, it was great. I’m out here trying to play well and make the cut, and at the time, it was pretty important for me to do that.

“The first one was great, so that got me under par for the day. And then the second one, I just couldn’t believe it. To even think that that could happen was amazing.”

Bensel was accompanied by his son and caddie, Hagen Bensel. The 14-year-old Bensel is still learning the game, but comes from a deep golf family and was named after Walter Hagen. Hagen called for the 7-iron on the fourth, but his father decided on a 6-iron and it paid off.

“We love spending time together, and we both love golf a lot,” Frank Bensel said. “He’s a great caddie. It’s the best.”

Bensel didn’t make Friday’s cut, but he leaves Newport with a career highlight.

“Anytime you play in a major tournament, it’s great,” Bensel said. “This will be remembered obviously forever and ever. This could be the highlight.”
