Falls Park on the Reedy is a favorite of both locals and visitors alike. Located in the heart of downtown, the park features beautiful stonework, walking trails, waterfalls, picnic areas, lush gardens and public art installations, complemented by the graceful architecture of the Liberty Bridge. The two-acre Pedrick's Garden, which serves as the park's main entrance, honors a former community leader instrumental in the establishment of Falls Park. What's more, two eateries are located within the park: enjoy salads, sandwiches and Southern favorites at Mary's Restaurant at Falls Cottage or French fare at Passerelle Bistro.

Recent visitors said Falls Park is a popular place for families and pet lovers, noting that kids love watching the ducks and dogs enjoying the many walking trails. Many also noted the beautiful bridge and garden and some suggested bringing a picnic to enjoy this peaceful spot. Other reviewers enjoyed the park's two on-site restaurants, as well as its proximity to other popular downtown eateries.

Bring your own bike or rent one at Reedy Rides to explore the nearly 20-mile-long Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail, which runs along the Reedy River from downtown Greenville to Travelers Rest (a city in Greenville County). Stop at mile marker 24 to get your heart pumping at the Bike Skills Flow Park or pack a picnic and take a break along the way at the Furman University campus. Before you head out, download the mobile Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail food guide to find lunch and dinner spots, or the ArcGIS Interactive Map, which bookmarks features on the trail from restrooms and water fountains to ATMs.

Visiting cyclists love this paved bike trail, touting the convenient stops and the full-service bike shop along the route. Recent riders said there are fun restaurants at both ends of the trail, in Greenville's County Square and in Travelers Rest, and some recommended detouring into the Furman University campus for a rest break or picnic by the lake. Others suggested relaxing on the patio at the Swamp Rabbit Brewery & Taproom in Travelers Rest or grabbing lunch at the Cafe At Williams Hardware (also located in Travelers Rest). 

Greenville County Museum of Art Greenville County Museum of Art free

This small museum is home to the world's largest public collection of watercolors by American artist Andrew Wyeth and also boasts an extensive assemblage of works by South Carolina artist Jasper Johns. Additionally, the museum's Southern Collection offers a visual depiction of the Southern experience, ranging from the colonial period to the present.

Reviewers loved the modern feel of this small museum, calling the building itself a work of art. Others said the works on display are definitely worth seeing, especially Wyeth's watercolor collection and the contemporary works of Johns. Many visitors also praised the free admission and the convenient downtown location.

Runway Park at GMU Runway Park at GMU free

The Greenville Downtown Airport features a unique aviation-themed park that kids of all ages are sure to love. A Cessna plane mounted on a pole anchors the two playgrounds, which feature play structures, grassy areas and walking "runways." When kids aren't watching aircraft take off and land, they can learn about the history and science of aviation thanks to the park's educational displays. The Perimeter Taxiway around the park serves as a walking and jogging trail and a picnic hangar is available for family and party rentals. What's more, the adjacent Runway Café serves casual food.

Recent visitors call this park "a must" for kids, and said it's a great place for little ones to run and play or ride their bikes, commending the park's cleanliness and accessibility. Many commented on the excellent facilities including a picnic shelter, new restrooms, multiple play areas and a walking track, and several mentioned the Runway Café as an easy place to grab lunch. 

Dark Corner Distillery Dark Corner Distillery

The northeastern corner of Greenville County – an area located in the Appalachian hills – has been known for more than 175 years as Dark Corner, due to its long association with moonshiners. Paying homage to this history, Dark Corner Distillery continues the traditions of the Celts who originally settled there by producing small batch moonshine, including aged whiskey, gin and absinthe. The downtown tasting room offers samples of six spirits, accompanied by a history of each product.

Visitors loved the tastings at Dark Corner Distillery, citing inventive cocktails that pleased even those who weren't whiskey aficionados. Many applauded the reasonable $5 tasting fee, which included a souvenir shot glass, and several visitors suggested purchasing bottles to take home as gifts. While most tasters found the downtown location convenient and the tasting process a fun and quick activity, some complained of long waits during busy times. 

The Children's Museum of the Upstate The Children's Museum of the Upstate

Located on the Heritage Green cultural campus in downtown Greenville, The Children's Museum of the Upstate offers three floors of unique, interactive exhibits for visitors of all ages. Kids can build dams and float toy ducks and boats in the Reedy River Bend, play guitar in the Garage Rock exhibit, build skyscrapers in the Construction Zone or host a news show in the WTCM broadcasting studio. Meanwhile, young children can play in the Toddler Lily Pond or enjoy the outdoor recreation area. Plus, the on-site cafeteria is stocked with kid favorites like Chick-fil-A sandwiches.

Recent visitors described this children's museum as both affordable and fun for kids and adults, and said the hands-on exhibits were entertaining and educational, especially the interactive grocery store. Out-of-town visitors were pleasantly surprised by the merchandise selection and reasonable prices in the gift shop, and many appreciated the on-site cafeteria and the convenient downtown location. 

Centre Stage Centre Stage

This regional, 285-seat theater offers a subscription season of music, comedy and drama, as well as independent film screenings, chamber music concerts, lectures and special art exhibitions throughout the year.

Recent travelers called this local theater "a hidden gem," praising the in-the-round seating and the quality of the productions. Many recommended arriving early to enjoy a drink before the show or visiting the nearby Playwright Irish Pub for a meal after the performance. Some visitors complained that the refreshment stand at the theater had problems processing credit card purchases. Others recommended arriving early to locate free street parking, rather than paying $5 at the lot next to the theater. 

Paris Mountain State Park Paris Mountain State Park

Located 5 miles north of Greenville, Paris Mountain State Park is a popular retreat for families looking for outdoor recreation. The park was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, and several park structures, including the bathhouse – now the Park Center – and Camp Buckhorn Lodge, hold a place on the National Register of Historic Places. The center features historical exhibits, while the park offers campsites, picnic shelters, a swimming area with a lifeguard, a playground, a camp store and a 15-acre lake with fishing and canoe, kayak and pedal boat rentals.

Although recent visitors said the scenery is underwhelming, many enjoyed the stone bridges and informational signage along the variety of hiking paths, from the challenging Sulphur Springs Trail to the relaxing loop around the lake. Reviewers also enjoyed the variety of activities and said the park is ideal for families, dogs and groups of friends. However, a few felt the $5 admission fee was too much to pay to access the hiking trails.

The Peace Center The Peace Center

This performing arts center in the heart of downtown Greenville offers a 2,100-seat concert venue, a 400-seat theater and an outdoor amphitheater. In addition to presenting Broadway shows, comedy, dance and a variety of musical performances, the Peace Center is home to the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the Greenville Chorale, two ballet companies and the South Carolina Children's Theater.

Recent visitors called this "an exceptional venue," noting that even upper level seats offer a great view. Many also praised the attentive service from the theater's staff and said they were surprised to find such a quality venue in a city the size of Greenville. If you’re looking for free things to do in Greenville SC, the Swamp Rabbit Trail is the perfect place to get some fresh air on your visit to Greenville SC! The 22 mile trail follows the spectacular Reedy River, weaving through city parks throughout Greenville SC. Enjoying this central trail also means you’re never far from amenities and refreshments!

This greenway is ideal for walking or cycling and is listed as an easy trail. It’s also available all year round! Also, in exciting history news, the trail follows a former railway line! Amazing!

Greenville County Museum of Art

Greenville County Museum of Art is definitely one of the best things do in Greenville SC! On these Saturday mornings, around 75 vendors come together to offer the best local seasonal produce, and handmade art and crafts! In fact, all food available at the TD Saturday Market must be grown within 100 miles of Greenville!

We highly recommend you take a couple of hours to wander through the market and have a good browse, grab some breakfast and find yourself a souvenir of your vacation while supporting a local creator or farmer. One of the best ways to experience a city is through the eyes of a local, and by visiting the TD Saturday Market you’ll be just doing that, while supporting local industry. Roper Mountain Science Center

Spanning a massive 62 acres, Roper Mountain Science Center has so much to offer, including a planetarium, observatory, butterfly garden, living history farm AND even a dinosaur adventure trail! Roar! Roper Mountain Science Center relies on support from the public to keep its doors open, which it even more important to visit when you’re visiting Greenville! The opening hours vary depending on the season so be sure to plan your visit. Our favorite time to go is on a Friday night in darkest winter when there’s a new moon… we just love to see the stars!

Six and Twenty Distillery

Visiting the Six and Twenty Distillery is one of the best things to do in Greenville SC for adults! This premium craft distillery create a range of amazing and award-winning products including a heap of different whiskeys, vodka, rum, and even peach cream!

Join the Grain to Glass tour to learn firsthand about the distilling process directly from the people who do it! Tours are run across three time slots every Saturday. They also offer games nights, workout classes and happy hour, as well as cocktail masterclasses three times a month, where you can learn how to make three different cocktails!

Drop in to their bar to try their amazing range in a tasting flight, or simply spoil yourself with a cocktail or three! When you find your favorite you can buy a bottle to take home and enjoy as a wonderful memento of your vacation!

If you’re visiting Greenville SC in May, you MUST schedule your trip to coincide with Artisphere, one of the best arts festivals in the country!

Greenville has a thriving arts culture (check out the Greenville County Museum of Art if you don’t believe us!) and this incredible arts festival, which runs across a full weekend, occupies several city blocks in the heart of Greenville. As well as visual and performing arts, local restaurants also participate, with amazing food options available too! Grab a bite to eat as you enjoy the live music, theater, and dance performances, or pop into a gallery to check out more than 15 different types of art mediums, including ceramics, painting and jewelry.

There’s something for everyone at Artisphere, including kids, with crafting sessions, and exhibitions around science, technology, engineering, arts and maths! Artisphere is easily one of the most fun things to do in Greenville SC and being one of the best art shows in the country, it really is unmissable!

Table Rock State Park

Table Rock State Park is one of the best things to do near Greenville SC. Only a short 40 minute drive from Greenville, this state park is so spectacular you WILL want to stay the night! With more than ten miles of hiking trails ambling past streams and waterfalls, and two fishing lakes, it’s a nature lover’s paradise. That’s before you find out there’s kayaking and canoe hire, pedal boats and playgrounds!

Please note, hikers and campers are asked to check in when arriving at the park. The park is locked overnight and camping on the trail is prohibited, but with two campgrounds offering amenities including hot showers, who could say no? Other accommodation options include 16 cabins with a range of configurations to suit every group.

If you’re spending a few days in Greenville SC we highly recommend a visit to Table Rock State Park, it’s sure to be one of the highlights of your trip!

Children’s Museum of the Upstate

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate calls itself 80,000 square feet for fun, learning and play and it is not lying! If you’re looking for what to do in Greenville with kids, this is IT!

The museum offers 21 exciting gallery exhibitions across three floors, where kids can learn about a range of topics such as nutrition and health, the environment, and construction. It’s so hands on, there’s even a toddler lily pond and a multi-storey climbing frame! Woaaah!

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is closed on Mondays so do be sure to check local guides before you visit. Also, we really encourage you to book your tickets in advance, as only ticket holders are guaranteed entry. While ticket entry is allocated in half-hour timeslots, your visit is not timed, which means you can spend the whole day checking out this wonderful museum!

Aryana Afghan Cuisine

If you’re looking for a great place to eat, Aryana Afghan Cuisine is one of the best places to visit in Greenville!

Located in the heart of downtown Greenville, Chef Nelofar Mayar capitalizes on the very best recipes handed down through the generations in her family. This cafeteria style cheap eat restaurant offers meat or vegetarian and vegan options, with different dishes and fresh combinations cooked every day! You’ll want to go back every day!

At Aryana Afghan Cuisine, Ms Mayar is committed to using fresh, seasonal and local produce, meaning that whatever time of year you find yourself at Aryana Restaurant, you know you’ll be in for a treat! And don’t forget a slice of baklawa for dessert! Oh yes! Please note, Aryana Afghan Cuisine is only open at lunchtimes, and not every day! We recommend calling ahead to check when they’re open.

Paris Mountain State Park

Paris Mountain State Park is super romantic, with plenty on offer for families and groups too! It’s definitely one of the top things to do near Greenville!

Located just five miles from Greenville, catch a catfish, bass or bream in the glorious eight-acre Lake Placid, rent a kayak, canoe or pedal boat (available seasonally) and just spend a day chilling in this forest wonderland. With 15 miles of hiking and bike trails, you will literally not run out of things to do here. Plus, Paris Mountain State Park offers fantastic camp sites as well as a group lodging for up to 40 people, so if you’re thinking of travelling with a big group, it’s a great option!

With trees crowding the shores giving a vibe of closeness, you’ll feel like this beautiful park is your home for the day, or however long you decide to stay!

M Judson Booksellers

M Judson Booksellers is an independent bookshop located in downtown Greenville SC. Located in a former courthouse building and adjacent to the Westin, they offer a great range of books by South Carolina authors and books about the region. They also stock the usual range of kids’ books, best sellers and classics, as well as a fantastic range of gifts, including homewares! It’s a great place to stop by for a thoughtful souvenir from your holiday or gift for a loved one back home, while supporting an excellent local business!

They also offer an in-store restaurant, Camilla Kitchen, serving amazing treats and teas coffees, as well as beer and wine. Their list of specialty tea is incredible! And if you’re in the mood for a snack, we love their cheddar, bacon and jalapeno scones, salted rosemary shortbread and apple crumble breakfast bars! Oh yum! Definitely add a visit to this lovely bookshop to your list of things to do in Greenville SC!

Sassafras Southern Bistro

If you want to experience authentic southern hospitality and food, look no further than Sassafras South Bistro. It is easily one of our favorite places to eat in Greenville, and even made our list of best restaurants in Greenville!

Sassafras offers the best of fine dining – crisp white tablecloths, handmade cocktails, an ambitious menu outstandingly executed, and outstanding customer service – without the typical fine dining price tag. The Sassafras menu has a focus on seafood, and we highly recommend the peppercorn crusted ahi tuna, pecan crusted rainbow trout, and their famous she crab soup. Sassafras offers alcohol specials on weekdays (half price bottles of wine on Wednesdays? Wine-not!) and a fantastic selection of local craft beer.

Open every day and with al fresco dining available under a gorgeous green canopy, an evening at Sassafras is definitely one of the best things to do in Greenville at night! Don’t forget to tell them we sent you!

Falls Park on the Reedy and Liberty Bridge

Falls Park on the Reedy is the jewel in the crown of Greenville, an absolute diamond of a place, and definitely one of the top attractions in Greenville.

Essentially, Falls Park is a public gathering place in a beautiful setting, with multiple uses including music, theatre, festivals and even weddings! It is truly designed to be a place for the people, located in the heart of Greenville and surrounded by a bevy of local restaurants, shops and other great things to do in Greenville. Spanning across it is the Liberty Bridge, the almost 350 feet long suspension bridge that is somehow curved.

With stunning public artworks featured throughout, Falls Park represents everything that is delightful about Greenville SC. A visit to this city is not complete without a visit to Falls Park, a walk across the Liberty Bridge and maybe even a picnic in the beautiful green space. Did we mention it’s free!?

Mice on Main: The Scavenger Hunt

Mice on Main is by far THE cutest of all the best activities in Greenville, where you’re invited to take part in a scavenger hunt to find the nine bronze mice hiding along Main Street between the Hyatt Regency hotel and the Westin Poinsett hotel.

Find all the clues at the official Greenville SC website and set off on your way to find these cute critters. It’s such a wonderful idea, that was thought of by a high school student over 20 years ago, and inspired by the delightful children’s book Goodnight Moon .

As someone who has lived in Atlanta on and off since 1978, I'm still amazed at the gems that abound in every nook of the Southeast. There's great delight in discovering a new (to me) treasure like the concentration of Korean restaurants near the automotive manufacturers in Alabama or the abundance of incredible immigrant-led restaurants in Clarkston, Georgia.

I've often traveled through Greenville, South Carolina on the drive from Atlanta to Asheville to visit my parents. I can't count the number of times that I've purchased superior South Carolina peaches from the roadside stand next to the Spinx gas station in nearby Travelers Rest because I was wondering what to eat but drawing a blank. I won't have that problem after this eating expedition, because I have found that Greenville's culinary offerings make it a place worth savoring.

As a restaurant critic and a mom, I have two essential criteria for a Southern road trip: There must be good dining options and lots of activities. Greenville has both, including plenty of museums with exciting exhibits and established restaurants in every category, whether it's Bucky's Bar-B-Q or fresh regional cuisine at Soby's . There are imports from other Southern cities and towns, including the Mast General Store (with barrels of candy) and Halls Chophouse out of Charleston, but Greenville has a distinct personality all its own.

The Cook's Station presents a hyper-Southern array of products showcased next to top-of-the-line BlueStar ovens for those who have food and cooking on the brain. Enjoy The City's Green Spaces

Fall Park on the Reedy is a park located right downtown featuring a uniquely curved, single-side support suspension bridge overlooking a waterfall. It's a beautiful place to enjoy a walk or bike ride and work up an appetite for the restaurants nearby. If you're looking for more exercise , the  Swamp Rabbit Trail  is a 22-mile paved multi-use path that travels along the Reedy River and an old railroad corridor, eventually connecting to the nearby city of Travelers Rest.

Greenville, S.C., near the Blue Ridge Mountains, has emerged as a buzzy destination for the culinary and creative arts after years of economic growth and urban revitalization. One of the U pcountry city’s most intriguing areas is West Greenville, the former hub of the city’s textile production. In recent years, the enclave known as “The Village” of West Greenville has been transformed into an artistic and entrepreneurial district with an eclectic mix of small businesses. There’s a James Beard-semifinalist restaurant, a host of independent galleries, as well as the Greenville Center for Creative Arts, which houses an art school and regularly holds public events and workshops.

1. Greenville Center for Creative Arts

West Greenville’s biggest cultural draw, the four-year-old Center for Creative Arts, is housed in the city’s historic cotton factory and is largely responsible for putting Greenville on the national visual arts map. The center includes an expansive gallery featuring work from on-site studio artists and fellows, as well as another gallery dedicated to local and regional talents. It also runs permanent and temporary exhibits and events (like Greenville’s most popular monthly open-house, First Friday, which is free and geared toward engaging the community).

2. The Anchorage

The marquee restaurant i n the city’s burgeoning dining scene is an ode to local ingredients. A semifinalist for best new restaurant in the 2018 James Beard Awards, the spot has a rotating menu of small plates that might include homemade pasta with Johnston County ham, arugula and garlic, and a salad of Brussels leaf, daikon kimchi, and rainbow carrots topped with albacore tuna, all served on dishware designed by the local potter Darin R. Gehrke . The chef Greg McPhee, an alum of Husk in Charleston and Restaurant 17 in nearby Traveler’s Rest, set up shop in the village’s former mill infirmary in 2017, making The Anchorage the space’s first tenant in 40 years. You can’t miss it: The revitalized corner building has a facade kitted out with a vibrant mural depicting a vegetable garden.

This four-year-old cafe has an intimate, rustic aesthetic and specialty coffee expertise. With beans sourced from local roasters like Methodical and Due South Coffee, the shop serves pastries, from morning buns to chocolate croissants and doughnuts (Sundays only), made each morning by neighborhood bakers, including Bake Room and Golden Brown & Delicious .

4. The Flatiron Building

The triangular, two-story brick building on the corner of Pendleton Street houses the studios and galleries of the city’s most promising artists and craftspeople . The nature-inspired paintings of Joseph Bradley are perhaps the most well-known outside of Greenville, having appeared in shows and galleries from New Orleans to Boston, and have a permanent home in Charleston’s Atrium Art Gallery.

5. Indigo Flow & Art

Opened in 2018, the hybrid yoga studio and art gallery with a philanthropic bent is run by Katie Hughes, a certified yoga instructor, and her artist mother, Julie Hughes. The art-focused section of the space features permanent collections by Ms. Hughes, who describes her signature style as “abstracted realism,” and selected works by local and regional artists. The minimalist yoga and meditation studio is in the back of the shop, where Katie Hughes offers Vinyasa and Chakra yoga, mat Pilates, and meditation, as well as beginner classes for kids. The mother-daughter duo allocates 10 percent of monthly profits toward their Indigo Outreach yoga and mindfulness program, created for at-risk youth in the community.

Greenville continues to celebrate its rich history while accepting progress and growth. The downtown area is unique, with waterfalls running through it, and the mountain vistas make a beautiful backdrop as the city sits at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Greenville is a city you’ll love for its urban feel but appreciate its smaller size. 

1. Upcountry History Museum

Greenville is a city comprised of generations of history. The  Upcountry History Museum  tells the stories of people who shaped the Upcountry region of South Carolina. Interactive permanent exhibits pair with limited-time traveling exhibits for a truly unique look at the region’s history. It’s a museum designed for all ages.

2. Fall Park on the Reedy

Downtown Greenville’s crown jewel is Fall Park on the Reedy. It’s a central attraction that acts as a navigational beacon. The park has flower beds and walking paths that meander serenely around the beloved Reedy River Falls. Those waterfalls in the downtown urban space make the city unique. It also doubles as an event space for festivals and outdoor movies.

3. Swamp Rabbit Trail

The  Swamp Rabbit Trail  runs between Greenville and Traveler’s Rest. At one point, the path was traversed by locomotives and train cars, but now you’ll see cyclists, runners, and skaters all day. It’s a 22-mile asphalt pathway that’s lined with gazebos and benches. Trailside restaurants and cafes offer plenty of spots to stop and refuel along your journey. 

4. Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum

Joe Jackson was one of America’s greatest baseball legends. The museum, located in the house where Jackson lived and died, follows his humble childhood working in a local textile mill through his years playing textile league ball, his extraordinary career in professional baseball, and his later years. The museum is full of artifacts that were a part of the player’s life. Nicknamed Shoeless Joe Jackson, he was a beloved baseball player, and the museum attracts a slew of visitors daily. 

5. Traveler’s Rest

Technically, Traveler’s Rest, South Carolina is located six miles from Greenville, but the two might as well be sister cities. You’d be doing yourself a disservice for not including a half-day in Traveler’s Rest when visiting Greenville. Small in size but filled with farm-to-table restaurants, it’s worth the trip. Take advantage of the restaurant Topsoil , where chef Adam Cooke was a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef Southeast in 2020.

6. The Gorge Zipline

Swing along the Green River Gorge treetop to treetop on a tour that takes 3 1/2 hours from start to finish. Eleven zip lines, two rappels, and a sky bridge make the adventure unforgettable. Aptly named  The Gorge , this tour drops an unprecedented 1,100 vertical feet from start to finish. The tree-based platforms offer incredible views that you can’t experience elsewhere.

7. Chimney Rock State Park

Chimney Rock State Park is home to a monolith rock formation that guests can hike to. Walk the 499-stair trail to the top for a gorgeous 75-mile view. Even though that is the park’s main attraction, there are other trails to waterfalls and even an educational, family-friendly trail that showcases woodland creatures. It’s a great park for hiking lovers.

8. Flying Rabbit Adventures

Another great Greenville zipline is  Flying Rabbit Adventures . They offer outdoor tree canopy fun for all ages with 58 obstacles and a kid’s course. They also have a bike course for mountain bikers if you want to stay grounded. 

9. The Children’s Museum of the Upstate

The first children’s museum to become Smithsonian affiliated is  The Children’s Museum of the Upstate . At 80,000 square feet, it’s one of the largest children’s museums in the country. The museum houses thirty exhibits that offer hands-on learning through playtime. The interactive exhibits are thrilling for little travelers. 

10. Tour Lake Jocassee

Lake Jocassee is 7,500 acres and is known for the clean and cold Appalachian mountain rivers that flow into it. Tour the lake via kayak and see Oconee Bells blooming, a bald eagle soaring overhead, and waterfalls. Lake Jocassee has waterfalls you can swim under. During the fall, you’ll see the colorful leaf foliage; during summer, you’ll jump out of the kayak for a swim.

11. Greenville Zoo

Learn about conversation efforts while admiring the cute animals that call the  Greenville Zoo  home. The 14-acre zoo offers youth programs and animal encounters. Some of the most popular exhibits are the orangutans, red pandas, lions, and giraffes. 12. Museum & Gallery

Museum & Gallery  is known as “one of America’s largest and most interesting collections of European Old Master paintings,” its Baroque paintings (from the 1600s) continue to awe visitors, and it’s one of the country’s best collections. Western European artists like Rubens, van Dyck, Reni, Tintoretto, Le Brun, Cranach, and Ribera are featured in the museum.

13. Roper Mountain Science Center

The  Roper Mountain Science Center  has many state-of-the-art educational facilities on its 62-acre campus. Visitors experience the latest in explorative STEM education through interactive exhibits and several hands-on activities. However, there’s a catch! They aren’t open to the public for regular business hours. Look at their event calendar for times when they’re open to the public; at other times, they only serve schools.

14. 7th Inning Splash Waterpark

One of the  coolest  things to do in Greenville SC, is the  7th Inning Splash Waterpark . The park has a 5,000 sq. ft. baseball-themed Splash ‘n Spray Pad, a traditional lap pool, a giant 36-ft high funnel slide, and smaller slides for those who want less thrills. It’s the perfect escape from the summer heat.

15. Bald Rock Heritage Preserve

If you want scenic views, head to Bald Rock Heritage Preserve. You’ll find a stunning view of Greenville’s surrounding mountains. A wooden footbridge leads to a huge rock outcropping the size of a football field. The summit is so prominent you can enjoy the panorama without feeling the slightest bit apprehensive, even if you have a fear of heights.

17. Blue Ridge Escarpment

The Escarpment is the line at which the Blue Ridge Mountain Range plunges towards the rolling foothills of Upstate South Carolina. This dramatic drop, created by the movement of tectonic plates and the erosive force of water, is home to a mountainous biome of unique nature. The 10,000-acre  Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area  encompasses the Escarpment’s array of waterfalls, hardwood forests, mountain streams, and a diversity of plant and animal life. Cedar Falls Park is the place to be if you’re looking for an easy-going outing. The 90-acre park has 2.2 miles of paved and nature trails for walking and mountain biking. It also has a playground with two play structures, a swing set, and plenty of benches. It’s called Cedar Falls Park because it’s home to a waterfall over 200 feet wide, creating a beautiful natural vista.

20. Devils Fork State Park

The Upstate area of South Carolina is known for its Oconee Bells blooming, and there’s no better place to see them than at  Devils Fork State Park  in the early spring. The park sits on Lake Jocassee’s edge and offers the only public spot to put into the lake. Trout anglers love the lake’s challenge and use the park for boat access. Overnight guests can stay in a fully furnished villa or one of two campgrounds near the lake. 

21. Take a Trolley Through Downtown

When the downtown electric Greenville trolley opened in 1901, it cost a nickel. Nowadays, passengers can take a ride for free! It runs on five routes around the downtown area from Thursday through Sunday year-round. The Elf Leaf Farm is a family-owned lavender farm just outside of Greenville. The farm has a magnificent view of Hogback Mountain, and during the summer season, the farm is open for u-pick lavender. They offer several lavender varieties to pick from.

Focusing on American artists, the Greenville County Museum of Art features pieces by Andrew Wyeth, Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, and Helen Turner, to name a few. The state park’s main entrance is an easy drive north from Greenville and includes cabins, campsites, and a few easy to reach swimming holes that are the perfect places to cool off during the notoriously hot summer months.

In addition to its natural beauty and amenities, the park is also historical; much of it was built by the CCC in the ‘30s.

2. Lazy Bear Winery

Though most people don’t associate South Carolina with wine production, like many states, it’s experienced a vineyard and winery renaissance in the last decade.

The Lazy Bear Winery on Hester Store Road in nearby Dacusville is one of the most popular and is particularly well-known for its sweet and fruity wines that have distinct notes of peaches, berries, and citrus.

There’s a gift shop on site that includes the full spectrum of their products. Tours and tastings are available for groups of up to 12, but you’ll need to call and let them know you’re coming a week or two in advance.

3. Easley Therapeutic Massage & Wellness Center

These days, when it comes to muscle, bone, and joint pain, most people go running to the medicine cabinet for relief, but for many sufferers, traditional therapeutic massage is a natural and inexpensive option.

As a disclaimer, I’m no doctor, so it’s probably best to consult one first, but for those looking for an hour or two of pampered relaxation, consider heading to Easley Therapeutic Massage and Wellness Center on South 5th Street in Easley.

They offer a wide variety of therapies, so finding one that’s a good match won’t be a problem; they’re particularly adept at easing the symptoms of migraines, sciatica, and fibromyalgia.

4. Foothills Playhouse

Community theaters are wonderful places to check out when visiting a new area, and though every town doesn’t have one, many do.

The Foothills Playhouse in Easley has been around for ages and is an intimate venue that you definitely won’t mistake for Broadway, but many previous guests have noted that the productions they saw exceeded their expectations.

Nearly all the talent is local, and the cost of admission is dirt-cheap compared to big city venues.

Their productions include old favorites like Arsenic and Old Lace. The best way to see what’s on their calendar is to give them a call or check online.

5. Pickens County Museum of Art and History

Pickens County South Carolina is pretty rural, so it often comes as a bit of a surprise to visitors that it has such a fantastic art and history museum.

The museum houses permanent exhibits, and at different times of the year, temporary ones from other galleries as well, so no matter how many times you visit, you’ll likely see something new and interesting.

The museum is located inside a historic jailhouse from the early 20th century, and the outside grounds are full of wildflowers that are particularly colorful in spring.

Previous guests have noted that the facilities and exhibits were more typical of what you’d find in a larger city.

6. Hagood Mill Historic Site

Located on Hagood Mill Road in Pickens, the Hagood Mill Historic Site is the perfect destination for those looking to take in the area’s incredible natural beauty while getting a unique insight into the past.

The Hagood Mill was once a working mill that processed many of the area’s farm products like corn and wheat into meal and flour.

During the warm months, the area around the mill hosts food and music festivals that are fun for the whole family. There are trailheads nearby that lead into the forest among, where there are ancient Native American petroglyphs that are said to be more than 5,000 years old.

7. Bee Well Honey and Bee Supply

Also located in Pickens is Bee Well Honey and Bee Supply.

It’s a working bee farm with an onsite store. In addition to their honey products, they offer a full range of hard-to-get items like raw milk, organic eggs, and natural supplements and vitamins.

They’re open year-round, and for those looking to get into bee raising, they offer starter bee packages which are available in the spring.

There’s also a popular bike trail nearby called ‘Doodle Trail,’ so throw the mountain bikes on the roof and make a day of it.

The farm is located on Hampton Avenue just outside town.

8. BMW Factory Tour

Located just off Interstate 85 in Spartanburg, the BMW factory has been churning out luxury brand cars and SUVs for nearly 20 years, and tours of the facility are one of the most popular activities in the Spartanburg area.

They fill up quickly, so it’s advisable to book your tour well in advance of your trip.

The guided tours typically take about two hours; along the way, guests will see how cars are made from beginning to end.

It’s a fascinating experience for adults and children alike, and the facility and skill of the workers are pretty amazing.

9. Greer Farmers Market

Even in the most rural communities, you’ll likely find a farmer’s market or two within a few miles. For those who find themselves on the road in Greer, the Greer Farmer’s Market would be well worth a stop.

Open on Thursday afternoons seasonally from April to October; it’s full of unique products that you won’t find elsewhere.

In addition to fruit, vegetables, and dairy products, the market also sports arts and crafts, prepared food items, and locally-made health and body items.

They’re known for their fresh baked goods too, and buying a thing or two is a great way to support local farmers and entrepreneurs.

10. Pelham Mill Park

In centuries past, water was a primary source of power, especially for the small local mills that dotted the landscape from coast to coast.

Pelham Mill Park is located on East Phillips Road in Greer, and though much of the original structure is gone, it’s still a fascinating site that’s a beautiful mixing of the natural and human-made worlds.

Though it won’t take long to see the mill, there is a dog park, picnic tables, and a few plaques nearby which give interesting historical information, showing what the mill looked like and how it functioned.

Consider a short visit before heading to the farmer’s market.

11. Discovery Island Waterpark

If you’ve never been to South Carolina in the summer, you may be in for a shock.

The weather can be notoriously hot and humid, making outdoor activities unpleasant, to say the least. But for those looking for a great day-trip from Greenville, a drive to the Discovery Island Waterpark in Simpsonville would be a great way to spend the day.

The park has all the kid-friendly amenities you’d expect and was designed specifically for children up to about 10-years-old.

The waterpark is located on Baldwin Road and has plenty of shaded seating areas.

Expect a crowd if you go during peak times.

12. Heritage Park Amphitheater

Located in Simpsonville’s Heritage Park on SE Main Street, the Heritage Park Amphitheatre is one of the area’s most popular venues for live outdoor performances.

The cost of admission is inexpensive compared to larger urban amphitheaters, and they host a variety of events – from country and jazz to bluegrass and everything in between.

They’ve had a few big name performers in the past, like Willie Nelson, but depending on who you’re seeing, it may not be the best atmosphere for those with children.

It seems that there’s plenty of preshow imbibing, so keep an eye out for upcoming performers before making plans.

13. Paris Mountain State Park

About five miles from Greenville, Paris Mountain State Park is a summer mecca for fishermen, boaters, bikers, and hikers that’s easy to get to, inexpensive, and chock-full of recreational activities for nearly everyone.

The park has a variety of campsites. During spring and summer, it’s possible to rent paddle boats, which are a great way to see the lake and get some exercise in the process.

Private boats aren’t allowed and remember that if you plan on doing a little fishing, you’ll need a license – whether you’re a South Carolina resident or not.

Ninety Six National Historic Site is a great day trip destination for those living near or visiting Greenville, South Carolina. This historic site commemorates the Revolutionary War battle that took place at Ninety Six in 1781. It was also the site of the first land battle in the American Revolution south of New England (in 1775).

Visitors can explore the museum and bookstore, take a guided tour of the battle site, and view the full-size replica of a Revolutionary War earthwork.

See the original Star Fort completed in early 1781. The Star Fort is a remarkable example of an 18th-century fortification, and its earthen walls remain well-preserved.

Lake Hartwell

Stop at the Visitor Center to see the half-hour film about the battle and a museum featuring various weapons. You’ll also want to see the bookstore of course. Explore the battlefield through a 1.5-mile walking trail. There are also hiking trails and horse trails.

Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail

Distance from Greenville: 68 miles (to the Kings Mountain end of the trail) Approximate drive time: 1 hour, 15 minutes

The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail is a key component of the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution Parks in South Carolina, which also includes Cowpens National Battlefield, Kings Mountain National Military Park, and Ninety Six National Historic Site (read more about all of these in this article).

These parks not only tell their own unique stories but also how these events in the Carolinas were key to America’s success in the Revolution.

The Overmountain Victory Commemorative Motor Trail starts in Abingdon, Virginia, and follows a mostly rural route to Kings Mountain National Military Park (see above). I’m not suggesting that you could do the entire route as a day trip, but you could certainly do some of it.

Mountain Waters Scenic Byway

Distance from Greenville: 70 miles to Highlands, NC, starting point Approximate drive time: 1 hour, 50 minutes to starting point

Mountain Waters Scenic Byway is a stunning stretch of road that winds for 61 miles mainly through Nantahala National Forest from Highlands to Almond, North Carolina. Points of interest along the way include Dry Falls and Bridal Veil Falls.

I wouldn’t recommend attempting this drive in the height of winter. And exercise caution any time of year you drive this route as portions of the roadway are narrow and curvy.

Helen, Georgia

Distance from Greenville: 100 miles Approximate drive time: 1 hour, 50 minutes

This charming alpine village in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains offers plenty of outdoor activities, unique shopping opportunities, and delicious food. From exploring fun family activities to tubing on the Chattahoochee River, there’s no shortage of things to do in Helen.

Helen is also celebrated for its Oktoberfest celebration and is lauded as a top Christmas town in the United States.

Charlotte, North Carolina

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic drive that stretches 469 miles from Virginia to North Carolina. For those who want to learn more about the history of the region, Swain County History Museum, and Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Museum are good choices.

Dahlonega, Georgia

Distance from Greenville: 120 miles Approximate drive time: 2 hours, 15 minutes

Dahlonega, Georgia, is a charming town that is perfect for a day trip from Greenville. It has an abundance of history, beautiful scenery, and a variety of activities to enjoy.

The town was the site of the first major gold rush in the United States, in 1829. Visitors can still explore some of these gold mines at Consolidated Gold Mine or visit the Dahlonega Gold Museum.

Four seasons of temperate weather make Greenville a terrific place to brunch year-round. The Upstate town sheltered by the Blue Ridge Mountains is brimming with restaurants that capitalize on the sidewalks, patios, courtyards, and walls of disappearing glass. Coupled with an abundance of local produce, Greenville crushes the long, lazy weekend meal with plates built to stand out with no shortage of midday cocktails.

Topsoil Kitchen & Market

Topsoil is well known for its field fare, and its building was Travelers Rest’s original general store. Run by chef Adam Cooke and Wendy Lynam, the restaurant draws a crowd at weekend brunch with a menu influenced by their farm. Inventive pancakes, like a delicious in-season carrot edition, stand out on the menu, and there are biscuits, breads, and English muffins by pastry chef Tania Harris, a 2024 James Beard semifinalist. The Swamp Rabbit Trail runs behind the restaurant and diners often bike to the restaurant. Reservations are a good idea for Bluegrass Brunch on Saturdays.

Maverick Biscuit

Though the buildable biscuit is not new, Maverick Biscuit makes apt work of it. The former fast-food footprint is suited for the quick casual spot, and a patio out front makes for a fun sit with friends. Mimosas with fresh OJ are a steal at $7 (or bottomless for $17). The Hangover Biscuit includes hot fried chicken, milk gravy, eggs, and candied jalapeno. A doughnut riff utilizing cathead biscuit dough is a winner with lemon curd.

Fork and Plough

The market and restaurant owned by a chef and a farmer feels like a beloved neighborhood spot in Historic Overbrook. Meats and produce are nearly all local, and chef Shawn Kelly is at the top of his game at brunch. There are rotating specials like soft shell crab and grits and tomato and pimento cheese tart, as well as flaky and shareable baked goods. Fork and Plough pours a celebrated mimosa; a frozen orange juice cube is topped with farmer fizz at a stellar price.

The dining room at Nose Dive spills out onto Main Street and is well known for its brunch service. Grits are the reason to head to this Table 301 restaurant. An extensive grits bar is where locals garnish the fluffy stone ground stuff with toppings like roasted tomatoes, red pepper gravy, peppadews, and pepper jack cheese sauce. Saturday brunch is a hot ticket at Nose Dive thanks to Greenville’s Saturday Market. The award-winning farmers market is mere steps outside the restaurant’s door.

The restaurant that started downtown Greenville’s meteoric rise is an iconic place for weekend brunch in the heart of the Main Street district. Soby’s brick patio is a place to see-and-be-seen and two of its best entrees are also on the brunch menu: shrimp and grits and crab cakes. Table 301’s flagship restaurant offers friendly, adept service and a wine list that is deep and varied, under the helm of corporate beverage director and sommelier Joe Crossan. There’s an extravagant Grand Mimosa comprised of Perrier-Jouët, OJ, and a splash of Grand Marnier.

The Charleston offshoot shares one of Greenville’s best courtyards with its sister restaurant, O-Ku, and the covered porch is a comfortable place to stay and hang. The breakfast pizza is a gem here, topped with sunny-side eggs. Housemade pastries, like strawberry “Pop-Tarts” and crumb-topped coffee cake, pair with super strong coffee. The frittata arrives alongside lemony Caesar salad, and seasonal spritzes pull it all together.

The Rabbit Hole

The Alice in Wonderland-themed bar in West Greenville went from cocktail notable to full-service restaurant via the addition of Travis Giarratana, formerly of Urban Wren. Now a co-owner, Giarratana recruited chef Jacque Metras to create a menu for discerning drinkers and it shines at brunch. A pillowy frittata, snap pea salad with lamb kofta, and mini croque madam are a few standouts on the rotating menu. Cocktails follow suit, and there’s breakfast wine too.

Larkin’s may not be adjacent to the Reedy River anymore, but one of Greenville’s long-standing restaurants still knows how to throw down brunch, which starts at 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Notable plates include apple beignets, steak and eggs, and a shrimp burger with fennel and mint slaw. Larkin’s is known for reliable service and the bar opens onto the busy quad of Camperdown Plaza.

The rooftop of the AC Hotel, named Juniper for its extensive gin list, is part of the Camperdown footprint. New chef Malaki Craft updated the Sunday brunch buffet to include items like chia pudding, stuffed artichokes, and expansive charcuterie for a graze and nibble option. Juniper is a place to sip strikingly pretty cocktails and soak in the garden-themed vibe; there’s comfortable seating for two or twenty, but reservations are recommended at brunchtime.

Stella's Southern Brasserie

As the Hollingsworth neighborhood continues to expand, Stella’s remains a mainstay at brunch, now with chef James King in the kitchen. The patio is a pretty place for a group, and there’s private dining too. Some nice additions to the brunch menu include French onion soup, a shaved vegetable salad, and apple butter toast topped with lemon and mint. Look for sugar-cured bacon and maple sage sausage too. Multiple bloody mary variations are available, and a notable tart cherry mimosa.

Looking to take mom to a special Carolina restaurant brunch this Mother's Day?

Open Table has come out with a list of the country's top 100 spots for brunch.

Check out the full list here.

Though both restaurants will require some driving, and possibly a day trip, according to the website, the brunch spreads are worth it.

The closest one to Greenville is Madison's, in Highland, North Carolina. That's about an hour and 45 minutes away.

This award-winning restaurant offers Southern favorites and features an extensive wine list. All reservations are for inside Madison's only. Seating outdoors in the Wine Garden or Rooftop Terrace is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The only South Carolina restaurant on the list is Bistro 217, on Pawley's Island , near Myrtle Beach.

This spot features seafood and steak, as well as pasta dishes.

"Owners Anne Hardee and Adam Kirby, who was elected Chef Ambassador of South Carolina, have created a culinary haven," the website says, offering indoor and outdoor seating.

A is for "Axe Throwing at Craft in Hampton Station"

The doors of Craft Axe Throwing were closed for some time during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, but now that they're back open, we'll sell you on a stop with the only thing you really need to know about spending time here: You get to throw axes!

No axe-throwing experience is required to play this game. Points are scored by — you guessed it — throwing axes at a giant target, similar to darts. Located in Hampton Station with neighbors worth stopping to visit while you're in the neighborhood, you can create quite the memorable afternoon or evening that includes this unique form of entertainment.

Celebrating its second anniversary in Greenville earlier this year, think of an outing with friends at Craft Axe Throwing like going bowling — if bowling was into LARPing on the weekends, exclusively listened to the aggressive subgenre of Viking heavy metal, and made a lot of random grunting noises for no apparent reason. What we're trying to say is, it's a bit different, perhaps intimidating, but strangely appealing all the same. Toss in offerings like brew from their avian neighbors at Birds Fly South, along with a stocked bar, and it's no wonder that a whirl around Internet review sites give the experience at Craft Axe Throwing more stars than Norse constellations. So, round up your friends, reserve a lane, and enjoy a few hours of legally throwing around sharp objects in a safe environment.

B is for "Burning Rubber at BMW Performance Center"

If a stroll around Falls Park isn’t your speed and confronting mortality is your idea of a relaxing vacation plan, please abide by all highway speed limits as you make your way to the BMW Performance Center in nearby Spartanburg, where limits are laughable.

A visit here offers a variety of experiences, all with top-notch safety and training, speed, and the ever-present potential for motion sickness only German engineering can produce in common (more in a moment). This massive outdoor track complex is a motorhead’s Mecca, especially if Bimmers are your brand of choice. For speed demons, go from zero-to-curse-words in the tap of a pedal on the back straight. Performance driving enthusiasts can go for a spin — literally — on the wet concrete skid pad. Head off-road and negotiate tumultuous terrain at a slower pace but with no lack of potential to grip fingerprints into the steering wheel. All experiences are done under the tutelage of BMW’s professional racing instructors — a title one does not earn by simply filling out a job app. These are legitimate motor-melting madmen and women who exhibit a one-ness with machine that’ll push the vehicle, and your stomach, to the limits. A word on that: if you’ve never been sure if you’re vulnerable to motion sickness, you can find certainty here. Jump in the passenger seat and let a pro take you for a one-minute equilibrium-extinguishing experience known as a “Hot Lap.” Witness the peak of BMW performance as your instructor goes from dead-stop to an odometer-crushing velocity that leaves your soul standing at the starting line looking around like John Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Through twists, turns, and spins, the Hot Lap puts a thrill into those with eustachian stability while a sense of irony replaces lunch for those without as the term “hot lap” takes on new meaning. No matter why you go, or whether you’re wearing your most recent meal on the walk out, you’ll find this visit is anything but a walk in the park.

C is for "Chihuly's Crystal Tower"

Renowned glass sculptor and artist Dale Chihuly has created works that live all over the world in permanent collections, and Greenville, SC is on that esteemed list of places to boast the claim to owning one. But unlike the sculptures, murals, and plaques that partially make up more than 95 individual pieces of public art in Greenville that you'll pass as you walk up and down Main Street, Chihuly's "Rose Crystal Tower" requires just a bit of seeking to locate if you'd like to admire it with a close-up view.

Before we get to the "where," let's have a look at some of the other important W's to this unique piece. Chihuly was commissioned by the Wyche Sculpture Committee to sculpt a piece that would honor Harriet Wyche , who played a pivotal role in the creation of Falls Park. Harriet passed away in 2011, and the sculpture, which was unveiled in 2015, sits in what is known as Harriet's Garden, a small area of flowers that surrounds the 12-foot-tall tower of art.

The tower is made of a material Chihuly created himself while installing a chandelier at the Sydney Opera House in Australia when he needed something lighter than glass, but also somehow stronger. The final product was something he termed Polyvitro, which many of his sculptures would be made of following its conception.

Some of the pieces that make up the tower were used in a sculpture he did in Jerusalem and had brought to Greenville.

Now to the where of this hidden gem: You'll find the Rose Crystal Tower at a secondary entrance to Falls Park on the Reedy River, which is located behind the West End Market. Make your way to Warehouse Theater, the Eggs Up Grill, Mellow Mushroom or The Velo Fellow and you'll find Rose Crystal Tower right behind any of them , off a parking lot.

Many have noted the tower's resemblance to rock candy, so "Rock Candy Sculpture" or "Rock Candy Tower" have lovingly become unofficial names for the piece, but please, we'd encourage you to not lick the artwork and instead marvel at its beauty, especially if you stop by around sunset or after dark.

D is for "Doggy Days at the Waterparks"

If you've never wondered what could possibly make a day at a waterpark even more fun, don't worry, we did the thinking for you. The answer is obvious: dogs.

That's exactly the combination you'll find if you head to Greenville, SC for one of Greenville Rec's "Waggin' at the Waterpark" events that are always a popular ticket in town. Because of the pandemic, we'll remind you that all events are subject to change, but as of early July, "Waggin' at the Waterpark" is scheduled for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Discovery Island and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 19 at Otter Creek.

Dogs tipping the scales over 25 pounds get the run of each park from 9-10:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Small dogs and senior dogs get their chance to tippy-tap through the park from 12:30-2 p.m.

Because these doggy days are such a hit, we highly recommend registering ahead of time to ensure you've got this tail-waggin' ticket. In order to keep the event as safe as possible for attendees with two feet, four paws, and anything in between, the total number of humans and their owners must be capped. Walk-ups are certainly allowed on the day-of the event, but only if tickets haven't previously sold out.

All attending dogs must be older than three months and be up-to-date on all vaccines with documentation verified during the registration process or by bringing paperwork to the gate as a walk-up, but we'll let you get all the details on the Discovery Island event and the Otter Creek event on Greenville Rec's website while we dream of petting all the doggos at the waterparks in September!

E is for "Elevation at Sassafras Mountain"

If you've got an attitude for altitude, we've got just the place for you. Take an easy hour's drive from downtown Greenville, SC into Pickens County and you'll find yourself at Sassafras Mountain .

This local leviathan is officially the highest point in the state of South Carolina. Not only that, but the border between South Carolina and North Carolina runs smack dab through the peak of this craggy colossus, which means you can get one of those really cool Instagram-able photos of yourself straddling a state line with a witty caption about being in two states at once — always good for a handful of internet points.

Since Sassafras is shared between the two Carolinas, it isn't considered the "tallest mountain" in the state. That distinction goes to Pinnacle Mountain, which is also close to Greenville in neighboring Pickens County.

The highest point of Sassafras comes in at 3,553-feet (or 3,554, depending on how many rocks are piled up at a given time, but we're not here to debate; let's just agree that it's very tall). That means a clear day affords you a view of four different state at a whopping 30-50 miles at just shy of 360 degrees from the recently completed, absolutely beautiful observation tower, which measures 44 feet in diameter and features a compass rose bisected by the state line. 

Getting here gives you options, too. Drive on up, park the car, and walk a mere 300 feet to the observation tower with nary a drop of sweat; or earn your overachiever's badge by hiking your way up. A popular option is picking up part of the Foothills Trail for a steady, yet not-too-steep nine-mile roundtrip walk, although many hiking websites note several options for elevating by foot.

No matter how you choose to get there, we're certain you'll enjoy this acclivity activity during your visit!

F is for "Free Mini Golf at McPherson Park"

"There's no such thing as a free lunch."

This is unfortunate yet true. But we've got the next best thing in Greenville, SC: FREE mini-golf.

No catch, no strings, no money down, no APR, nothing, zip, zilch, nada, leave your wallets and purses at home because this is as free as free gets. At historic McPherson Park in downtown is where you'll find this magical space of land where the traditional monetary exchange for goods and services ceases to be. McPherson Park had an existing 9-hole mini-golf course for years, but when it became clear that the previous links could use some sprucing up, City of Greenville Parks & Rec renovated the course with some major upgrades.

The biggest change from its predecessor? There are 18 holes now — if you're keeping score, that's twice the number of holes for no additional cost!

The renovations turned this mini-golf course into one of Greenville, SC's truly unique gems. To try your skill on this pro bono putt-putt, simply bring a putter and some golf balls. These items aren't available at the course, so make sure to load them up in the car for your Greenville trip.

Hey, it's a small price to pay for no-cost fun in Greenville's oldest city park.

G is for "Gliding Through Greenville on a Segway Tour"

Greenville Glides is one of our Signature Experiences and, once you hop aboard, you'll easily see why. Offering a variety of tours, your experience starts by spending some time getting acquainted with a Segway and how to ride it safely. Then, it's all about gliding around Greenville as you're guided through some of our favorite parts.

Take the West End & Falls Park tour, which will glide you to some gorgeous views of Falls Park and the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail. Or do some noshing on the Taste & Glide tour that stops along the way to sample some of Greenville's greatest bites.

Prefer a little spooky with your Segway escapade? Wait for fall to come when the Haunted Segway Tour is running, which combines ghostly tales with visits to Springwood Cemetery and other eerie locations along the Reedy River.

No matter what you choose, the whole family can experience the history of Greenville with a fun, "glided" tour.

H is for "Hello Kitty Drummer Cole Dockter"

Can a person be considered a tourist attraction? Say hello to Cole Dockter — better known around Greenville, SC as the "Hello Kitty Drummer" — who attracts a crowd no matter where he sets his kit up. A drummer since sixth grade, Dockter bought a Hello Kitty drum set on eBay a few years ago, according to a story written by the  @gvljournal , and has been putting on must-see sidewalk shows of percussion prowess ever since. When walking around downtown Greenville, SC, on any given day or night, street performers can be found all around as the city provides permits for musicians, actors, dancers, live statues and so much more. Dockter, however, will attract your attention for a couple of reasons: 1. You don't often see a grown man playing a child's pink drum set; 2. You don't often see a grown man playing a child's pink drum set with such skill; 3. You don't often see a grown man playing a child's pink drum set, performing beats created by, say, heavy metal bands like Meshuggah, complete with stick flips and twirls meant to mesmerize passers-by.

So, if you're visiting and happen by Dockter and his kiddy kit, ask yourself if a person can be a tourist attraction. Something tells us he'll have you at "Hello."

I is for "Immersion Therapy at Drift Float and Spa"

Sure, you could go lie in a hammock in the summer heat in an attempt to relax your body, soothe your soul, and shut down your mind. Or, you could float off to zen in a unique, science-backed, far-less-sunburny way at Drift - Float and Spa . After a brief wash in a shower, you'll turn off the room light, get into the tank's perfectly-tempered water mixed with a half-ton of epsom salt in your birthday suit (worry not: Drift empties tanks and cleans and filters water twice between every appointment and has many COVID precautions in place), and you'll close the lid. Soothing music and lights set the mood for about 10 minutes as you get yourself settled. Then slowly, the music and lights fade and it's just you. In a large tank. In the soundless dark. Alone with your thoughts. OK, we made that sound more scary than soothing, but just trust us and Dr. Science: one hour floating in sensory deprivation will have you feeling brand-new. Take advantage of Drift's infrared sauna, oxygen bar, or give Lucia Light a shot (that's a whoooole different post on its own). Sure, we love being pampered in a traditional spa, but it's good to mix relaxation up by confronting your existence in the silent dark once in a while.

J is for "Jazz at Blues Boulevard Jazz"

Greenville, SC's local music scene is robust yet it flies under the radar. Those in the know just know where to scratch their live music itch, but those who haven't learned yet have plenty of stages to receive an intimate education. Few spots are better to get schooled than Blues Boulevard Jazz . Situated right on the Reedy River in the heart of downtown Greenville, the environment is perfect for a night of jazz — or blues, or R&B, or any other genre that will surely fulfill that need for live music. It's important to note that Blues Boulevard Jazz is temporarily closed as of the publish of this post due to COVID-19, but a Facebook post in August provided an update that owners are working on a re-opening plan they'll announce once finalized. When those doors do open back up, get ready for the combination of a perfectly-lit jazz club environment, local and national artists and groups, and a wide selection of beverages to sip on to make beautiful music together once again. There's a reason review after review touts Blues Boulevard Jazz's vibe, environment, atmosphere and intimacy, so when things open back up, we'll be some of the first in line to lose ourselves in a music scene that visitors and residents alike are continually discovering.

K is for "Kayaking on Lake Jocassee"

Our outdoors scene is known for a multitude of mountainous options, but looking past our lake scene would be a massive mistake. Procuring a kayak and taking to the waters of Lake Jocassee is just... well, look for yourself! Spending hours in the serene space Lake Jocassee offers is just so good for the soul, and making this happen in a kayak might be the best vehicle for this experience.

Paddle around and explore, or get directions and head right for Lake Jocassee's waterfalls that can only be seen or accessed by boat.  No kayak? No problem. Head on over to Jocassee Lake Tours or Jocassee Outdoor Center and wrangle up some rentals for a day. If you're looking for a little something more, Jocassee Lake Tours offers a six-hour guided kayak tour that includes approximately three hours of paddle time. Jocassee Outdoor Center has guided lake waterfall tours coming soon.

L is for "Liberty Bridge"

It is by far the best view of downtown Greenville, suspended high above Falls Park on the Reedy . At 345 feet long, 12 feet wide, and 8 inches thick, the Liberty Bridge has become a visitor's favorite! The bridge itself is supported by a single suspension cable and forms a miraculous curvature for locals and guests to walk across and take in the sights. 

One may be familiar with similar structural work in Europe, but within the United States, the Liberty Bridge is a one-of-a-kind creation. Constructed by Taylor and Murphy Construction Co. of Asheville, NC; designed by bridge architect Miquel Rosales of Boston; and engineered by Schlaich Bergermann, the intricately crafted bridge is described to be "floating on air". It may be hard to believe that the construction of this project took only 12 months! 

It is hard to miss this breathtaking structure in downtown Greenville, as it is one that draws everyone's attention. From panoramic views of the numerous gardens and rushing waterfalls below to the bustling city scene, one can witness all of this by just walking across the Liberty Bridge.

With distance from others a focus as we fight the spread of COVID-19, getting outside is optimal to also fight off the mental, emotional, and physical woes that come from being stuck inside. A trip to Lake Conestee Nature Preserve  could have your wits wigglin', your soul singin', and your body boppin'.⁠ Owned and operated by the Conestee Foundation, a private non-profit, Lake Conestee Nature Preserve offers 400+ acres of water, wetlands, and wildlife to wander and watch. Bring those bi'nocks because between its borders is THE best bet for birding in Upstate SC. O is for "Opulent Chicken Coop at Artifacts Greenville"

If our goal is to highlight some of Greenville's weird, wacky and wild along our alphabetical attractions tour, we're achieving it today because this gem hits all three W's in the best way possible. Artifacts Greenville is in area just outside downtown known as Sans Souci and is one of several businesses that set up shop in this up-and-coming neighborhood in recent years, along with Velo Valets  — a bike shop with one of Greenville's beautiful murals on the side of its building. Artifacts, which also boasts three artist studios on property, is among a crowd of antiques shops dotting the Greenville County landscape, but their eccentric approach makes them a standout. Why do we say that? Well, their website lists an executive staff of three chickens — Camilla, the Director of Human Resources; Chequers, their Chief Spokesperson; and Omelette, who oversees buildings and grounds. So devoted to their roles are these birds of a feather that they live on property and do so in utter opulence. The back garden is where you'll find this fowl faculty overseeing their human help, likely from the loud-looking Greek Revival chicken coop they call home. Recently featured in AtHome Magazine  and on  @atlasobscura's Instagram page — THE source for rare-bird attractions around the world — the term "masterpiece" is used to describe this purple poultry palace. According to AtHome, this banty shanty is constructed from thrifted items, including 300 golf clubs, two baseball bats, porcelain birds, trains, two hubcaps off a 1940s Cadillac, and much more you'll just have to spot for yourself. The coop has become interactive folk art as visitors discover it by stopping at this eclectic antiques shop, so don't miss out on a chance to go off the beaten path and include this eggs-travagant, eggs-traordinary eggs-ample of eggs-entricity on your egg-tinerary.

P is for "Pinot the Pig at City Scape Winery"

Greenville has built a bit of a brewery background in recent years with more than a handful operating at any given time, and while we love our brewery brethren, wine gets to shine today. While City Scape's wine offerings stand on their own as a reason to stop by, we're presenting another reason to pick a pilgrimage to Pelzer during your visit to Greenville: Pinot the Pig. City Scape Winery owners Josh and Deb Jones grew up near the touted Finger Lakes wine region of New York State and developed a love of wine before eventually making Greenville — and its much milder winters — home. A little something we all might be experiencing these days took the couple from casual consumers to vinification hobbyists: boredom. Long story short: They got bored, decided to make wine together, bought supplies, made 125 bottles for their wedding, guests gushed over the homemade handiwork, and when City Scape went up for sale in 2015, Josh and Deb took a chance and bought the winery. It's been nothing but happiness (or hap-pig-ness) ever since. Pinot The Pig plays the part in the previous parentheses. Pinot is Josh and Deb's personal pet, family member, and official City Scape mascot. His popularity at City Scape is obvious as a glance through popular online review sites laud the winery's intimate atmosphere, the wide-open outdoor space, and, of course, the wine, but Pinot always seems to root his way into the reasons reviewers rave about the experience. Speaking of: City Scape could be expanding that experience with a newly-announced plans, including a 10,000-square-foot production facility and tasting room, and, of course, a dedicated place for Pinot and pals. If all goes to plan, Pinot the Pig could be welcoming you to the new City Scape Winery in 2022. But until then, pack a picnic and head to Pelzer for some Pinot — oh, and try the wine, too.

Q is for "Quiet Time in Falls Park's Seldom-Seen Spots"

Falls Park on the Reedy River is anything but a hidden gem — it's a crown jewel. But inconspicuous installations await your discovery.

When most visitors come to Greenville, SC, they'll stop by the Liberty Bridge and its breathtaking view of Reedy River Falls with backdrop of downtown — a must for any guest. Once checked off the list, an explorer's spirit will guide you to pockets of peacefulness in the park away from its main attractions.

Weave your way below and behind the Liberty Bridge toward the river's pooling area, where the quackers spend the bulk of their lazy days. You'll find a rocky gully that intersects with a footbridge. Choose your adventure: Continue further and follow the gully to a large, lush landscape with a circular stage. This is the TD Amphitheater, a landmark that lets you know you're on the scent of serenity. Following this path further will take you to a shady, soothing spot known as The Carolina Foothills Garden Club Sanctuary. Oft-unseen, its beautiful stone walls, small waterfall, and sense of seclusion make this nook perfect for lunch and a book.

Back at the footbridge, find another quaint, quiet spot by crossing. Turn left and head down the steps. This part of the Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail leads past several swinging benches with perfect views of the Reedy River Falls. Stop and sit for a moment, but continue on for greater zen.

Under shady trees, you'll land at Old Mill Garden, home to the remaining foundation of the old Vardry Mill. A tranquil location down-river, this spot is just out of earshot of the Reedy River Falls but offers a soothing soundtrack few visitors are audience to, so explore Falls Park to find more to quench your quest for quiet!

R is for "Refractor Telescope at Roper Mountain Science Center"

Under a large dome among 62 acres of Greenville County Schools learning space sits a piece of glass so historic it might make you view  #yeahTHATgreenville  as out-of-this-world. Roper Mountain Science Center is home to the eighth largest refractor telescope in the US, and its story will blast both history hounds and astronomy aficionados into orbit. Roper Mountain might be the coolest place for kids to learn about sciences. The multi-building complex touts a planetarium, full aquarium, and much more for students to immerse themselves in. Because Roper Mountain is a learning facility, it's only open to the general public for certain events, so check its website before showing up. Finished in 1882, the telescope's first home was Princeton's Halsted Observatory. At 23 inches in diameter, it was the 2nd-largest telescope in the country then, behind only the 26-inch US Naval Observatory telescope, which was used to discover the moons of Mars. Halsted was razed in 1932 to make way for a dorm, and the telescope was rebuilt and relocated to a new observatory on campus. Around that time, Albert Einstein moved to Princeton. While there's no documented evidence, it's a safe bet that Einstein had, at the very least, taken a peek through the very same glass now in Greenville. The telescope was dubbed "The 'War of the Worlds' Telescope" because of its use by "Professor Richard Pierson, famous astronomer" to keep an eye on Mars while being interviewed in the infamous 1938 "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast that felt so real to some, they believed Martians were really attacking Earth. After a stop at the US Naval Observatory from 1964-1978, it was offered to Greenville County Schools. Your best bet to see it is to keep watch for Roper Mountain's Starry Nights laser light shows , one of a few times the campus is open to the public. Once darkness falls, the telescope is open to those who would like to see the heavens through the same lens Einstein likely peered through.

S is for "Shoeless Joe Jackson"

Baseball fans know the significance of the 1919 Chicago White Sox. Ask them about the team and they'll mention the infamous scandal that earned the team the moniker "Black Sox." The name "Shoeless" Joe Jackson won't be far behind. The scandal is a tangled web that's too much to unravel here. Even 100 years later, much is still in dispute. Perhaps most contested is Jackson's involvement. The infraction involved eight players on the team who were tried yet found not guilty of accepting bribes from a gambling syndicate to "fix" the 1919 World Series. Jackson was one of those eight — all were banned from baseball for life despite the verdict. He's synonymous with the Black Sox for the same reason it was with the White Sox: his on-field prowess. A star player, his rookie batting average of .408 in 1911 is still a rookie record today, but his popularity, some argue, forever tangled him in the scandal. Much has been done to redeem Jackson's reputation, and Greenville plays a significant role in that with several landmarks to visit. Born in Pickens County, Jackson and his family moved to Greenville, where, by age 7, he was working in one of its many textile mills. He got his start on the diamond playing for one of the mill teams and that very same diamond can be visited behind the Brandon Mill on Draper St. A stop at the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum that sits inside his old residence and bears his name is a must, but you'll have to wait. The museum — bricks, mortar, artifacts and all — is relocating just 100 yards from its current site for a luxury apartment complex being named .408 Jackson. While there, visit his statue outside the entrance of Fluor Field . Lastly, pay your respects where Jackson was laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park upon his death in 1951. Instead of flowers, bring a baseball to leave at his headstone with the others brought by visitors to his gravesite. While history may debate the accepted story of Jackson's baseball career, none can dispute his significance to Greenville.

T is for "Tuberculosis Hospital Ruins at Herdklotz Park"

Today's post is for the curious who long to understand the unexplained, and few travel guides will direct you here for the story we're about to tell. Greenville County has more than 55 parks and, on first glance, this one isn't likely to look any different — but it is. Herdklotz Park spans a beautiful 17 acres in the shadow of Paris Mountain. It's a popular playground pick and its multi-purpose fields provide lots of greenspace. The scene here on any given day belies very little about its past, unless you know what to look for. This was once the site of the Hopewell Sanatorium, a nationally acclaimed tuberculosis hospital open from the 1930s until the '50s. Hundreds of tuberculosis patients were treated and cured here. The number is unknown, but many lost their lives here, too. The hospital spent time as an asylum for "the criminally insane," as the term was used then, and a prison work-release site before sitting vacant and decaying for decades. It was badly damaged in a fire in the early 2000s and much of what was left was torn down to make way for Herdklotz Park, except for one area. Amid the laughing children and walkers on the trail, you'll find the remains of the hospital's root cellar with a plaque detailing Hopewell's past. The stones are all original and they surround a large sealed-off door. Popular among locals looking for a thrill when still standing, rumors quickly spread of something otherworldly going on as disembodied footsteps would break into a run, screams were heard, things would move on their own, and shadowy figures would roam the halls. Some report still having similar experiences today.

U is for "Unlikely Place for a Star Wars Shrine"

A long time ago, in a galaxy (not terribly) far, far away, the posting of a single image would set in motion a chain reaction that would create unrest within the Galactic Senate! OK, maybe the Galactic Senate unrest part is a bit embellished, but it was more than 20 years ago when a poster tacked to a wall took on a Force all its own and began the unlikeliest of Star Wars shrines in the unlikeliest of places — a random nook at Furman University , which has no ties to the movie we're aware of other than, well, having an unlikely Star Wars shrine. Before "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" hit theaters in 1999, Furman theater manager Danielle Hernandez honored one of her theatrical heroes — Yoda — by pinning the poster to a wall on The Dark Side (buckle up and get used to this) of McAlister Auditorium. Little did she suspect when she hung it that more than 20 years later, not only would the poster still be on the backstage wall she affixed it to, but surrounding it would be a display of offerings from members of the Furman community to the Jedi Master. And so began the saga of Furman's Star Wars shrine. Hernandez, still the theater manager, spoke to Furman's website about the shrine's 20-year anniversary and provided an epic list of some of the items left as tribute to the wise, green one: "Luke, Leia, and Solo figures, X-Wing fighter and Millennium Falcon models, Darth Vader heads, a Boba Fett, storm troopers, photos, postcards, puzzles, an R2D2 dreidel, toys and lots and lots of Yoda." There have been so many items left here, in fact, that Hernandez has an overflow box in her office of items that just won't fit in the shrine's space. Touring artists that have played the auditorium often take photos of and with the shrine. Even Furman alumni send items in by mail to add to collection. Next time you're in Greenville and catching a show at McAlister Auditorium is back on the itinerary, maybe pull a Jedi mindtrick to leave this fabulous Furman feretory an offering yourself.

V is for "Vivify at ReCraft Creative Reuse Center"

If anyone embodied words like vibrant, vigorous, voluble — it'd be Grant Cothran. Owner of ReCraft Creative Reuse Center , a little time spent with Grant reveals a venturesome personality packed with passion for vivification — that is, the act of giving vitality or animation to something. In this specific case, Grant breathes new life into old stuff with his knack for bric-a-brac. ReCraft is South Carolina's first creative reuse center, with its closest cousin residing in Greensboro. What is a creative reuse center, you may ask? In simple terms, ReCraft gathers up quality, reusable materials from manufacturers, retailers, institutions, and households that were destined for the landfill and creates craft projects for children with them. Think of it as Build-a-Bear, but with way cooler materials and projects, and the idea that you can turn anything into a robot if you just imagine it. Run entirely on donations , ReCraft is always on the lookout for bulk items to claim and craft, so if you visit and can pay in a donation of some sort, Grant and his crew of volunteers may gladly take it. Got a bunch of old thread, fabric, pipe cleaners, or buttons? ReCraft wants them. Grandpa's old stamp collection? Decor for a custom-crafted guitar. Got a bunch of corks? No, you've got a bunch of robot arms (see?). What you may see as a pile of googly eyes... well, ReCraft would definitely see a pile of googly eyes, too — but all of this material comes together to spark the imaginations of kids, foster creativity, and teach skills like building, sewing, resourcefulness, and problem-solving. Maybe the best thing about Grant's creative reuse center is its impact so far. One guy with a vehement dream and a variety of volunteers turned 7 Dumpsters' worth of material into treasure for imaginative children to build, create, and innovate with in 2019. That alone is a reason to get your vivify on at ReCraft!

W is for "Wandering One Wild Bridge in Mountain Bridge Wilderness"

This is for the adventure-addicts, the challenge-chasers, those after adventure and hiking heroics. We're going to tell you a story about a bridge (and if you get this Buzz Killington "Family Guy" reference , major points to you!; If not, moving on...) that is a bit tougher to reach than Greenville, SC's other iconic bridges. Caesars Head and Jones Gap state parks are popular must-see outside offerings, but they belong to the same 11,000-acre swath of undisturbed land called the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area , which contain lots of hiking trails to test your mettle. One, in particular, will lead you to the Raven Cliff Falls suspension bridge , a site and sight that is more earned than simply visited. Reaching it requires preparation — proper footwear; WATER, and lots of it; snacks; sun and rain protection; an innate, strict adherence to rules and signs; a sense of direction; patience; and time. Depending on which trail you take, you're looking at 8-12 miles roundtrip and 4-6 hours from stepping out of the car with a hopeful bounce to regretfully, yet satisfyingly dragging your way back in it. Experienced hikers rarely raise an eyebrow when reviewing trails online, but one look at notable sites reveals a mild reaction from the accomplished ambler — the trail is "very strenuous but worth every minute" and "great if you need a walkabout and want to examine your entire life," with an elevation gain that'll "work ya some," per reviewers — which should signal to the rest of us that this trek is terribly tricky. But if you know your limits, take your time, rest, and remain careful in the treacherous spots, the suspension bridge over Raven Cliff Falls is, indeed, worth every step to reach. Pro tips: get a trail map at the Caesars Head Visitor's Center , watch for slippery rocks, and prepare for a hike that'll give you a story about a bridge that'll be anything but a buzzkill.

X is for "XLR8 at Piney Mountain Bike Lounge's Pump Track"

Piney Mountain Bike Lounge is a passion project with a purpose. And while Greenville, SC gets a lot of attention for its road cycling, Piney Mountain exists to share its love for mountain biking. That's not to say there's any division between the two cycling styles — on the contrary, Piney Mountain Bike Lounge has become a hangout of road cyclists, mountain bikers, and everyone in between. A full-service bike shop, a craft beer taproom, and a laidback environment are the main elements that make up Piney Mountain, but it's what's out back that is the big draw. Kids and adults alike swarm outside to the pump track — a continuous loop of dirt featuring mounds, bumps, and jumps to test your mountain biking prowess. A pump track's purpose is to challenge you to use your whole body to get around the track without using pedals (but if you do, that's OK, too). For the novice mountain biker, or avid ones just looking to stay tuned up, pump tracks teach the skill of using momentum to maintain balance and speed through bumps, twists and turns. For those just looking for a fun afternoon adventure, pump tracks are just good, clean fun in the dirt. At Piney Mountain, the pump track is open when the shop is open, but will close during and after heavy rains that may affect the track. If you're looking for something active, fun, and a bit different than anything else, XLR8-ing around Piney Mountain Bike Lounge's track will definitely pump your day up!

Y is for "Yearly Leaf-Peeping in Autumn"

Fall is a favorite for many for a cornucopia of reasons: cooler weather, campfires producing that cold, smoky scent of an autumn evening, fall fashion, pumpkin-spice everything — as polarizing as that may be. But without the many colors of the occasion, it just wouldn't feel like fall. At a time when keeping our distance is imperative, the outdoors scene in and around Greenville, SC makes the upcoming autumn season so much more worth seeing. Once the trees start to change here, the popping of reds, yellows and oranges can be enjoyed from a multitude of vantage points. For the more popular spots, where you'll surely see fellow leaf-peepers yet still be able to maintain a semblance of solitude within your circle of six-or-more feet, you won't want to miss the overlook at Caesars Head . The miles and miles of foliage beneath your feet will have you floating above a seasonal sepia sea. Down the road, you'll find the most quaint of views at an outdoor chapel that's the most Pretty Place to view an autumn sunrise, or a wide open expanse at Bald Rock to welcome that same dawning of a fall day. Take a peek around Paris Mountain State Park and awe at the array of festive bursts of the season. If it's frond-fixation in isolation you seek, choosing one of Upstate South Carolina's many hiking trails will likely satisfy your search for solitude. Greenville is surrounded by South Carolina State Parks, all with their own lesser-known, lightly-to-moderately trafficked paths. At Caesars Head, try the Frank Coggins Trail for an easy stroll, or challenge yourself with the 11.9-mile Rim of the Gap Trail . Try Table Rock's Pinnacle Lake Trail Loop for an easy trot around the lake with beautiful mountain views set against an amber and gold backdrop. We've traveled a wide range of hidden gems to get to our final letter, from the serene to the spirited, so as we wrap up our tour, let's settle in for a nice, relaxing guided tour... THROUGH THE TREETOPS! *Cue Mountain Dew-fueled guitar riff* That's right, we're tethering you by the waist to a cable above your head with nothing but the air and treetops of the Green River Gorge beneath you. Just across the border in North Carolina, an easy drive from downtown Greenville, SC, The Gorge Zipline is packing a couple of adrenaline-pumping superlatives into one rad ride — America's steepest and fastest zipline canopy tour. When you were a kid, if you ever dreamed of swinging through the trees, this place is the answer to your pre-adolescent prayers.
