Ringo Starr Announces Summer 2022 All-Starr Band Tour

Ringo Starr is hitting the road with his All Starr Band this summer for a monthlong tour featuring longtime bandmates and the return of All Starr alum Edgar Winter .

You can see the tour dates below.

The band — which includes  Steve Lukather , Colin Hay , Warren Ham, Gregg Bissonette, Hamish Stuart and Winter — will kick off the trek on May 27 in Rama, Ontario, and conclude on June 26 in Clearwater, Fla. Tickets are on sale now; more information can be found at Starr's website .

"I can't wait to get back out on the road and play," Starr said in a statement. "This is the longest I've been off the road in years — up until 2020 I was touring every year with the All Starrs — and I've really missed it. Making music in the studio has been great, and it certainly saved me during the pandemic, but nothing beats playing live with great musicians in front of an audience. I love my fans and they love me, and it's going to be wonderful to be peace and loving and playing for them again."

Starr has kept busy during the coronavirus pandemic by releasing two EPs, Zoom In and Change the World , in 2021. He also released the commemorative Ringo Rocks: 30 Years of the All Starrs retrospective book and will soon issue a new Beatles coffee-table book titled Lifted: Fab Images and Memories of My Life With the Beatles From Across the Universe .

Ringo Starr Essentials

Ringo Starr rarely gets credit for being a gifted drummer, yet his effortless-sounding skills helped Beatles songs change culture. The Liverpool-born songwriter is also an oddly engaging singer with a baritone that's part lounge rat, part plainspoken rocker. Since The Fab Four split, Ringo has issued nearly 20 solo albums—starting with his George Martin-helmed '70 debut Sentimental Journey—embracing everything from rumbling country and classic standards to swooshing dance and pop-flecked rock. Ringo leveraged his stardom into film roles during the '70s and has since mastered the art of celebrity. Though he has suffered life-threatening illnesses, he continues to record and tour with his All-Starr Band.

Ringo Starr, 84, Cancels the Rest of US Tour After Announcing Illness

Ringo Starr, former drummer for The Beatles, has been forced to cancel the final dates of his U.S. tour after falling ill, leaving fans in Philadelphia and New York City disappointed as they await news of his recovery.

Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band were scheduled to perform in Philadelphia on September 24 and in New York City on September 25. However, due to a cold, the legendary musician was advised by his doctor to cancel these remaining tour dates. Subsequently, fans and netizens quickly took to social media to express their worry.

The musician has been touring across North America since the fall leg of his 2024 tour kicked off in San Diego on September 7. The tour had planned stops across the U.S., with the final shows scheduled for the East Coast.

However, just hours before his performance in Philadelphia, Starr's team announced that the remaining dates of the tour would be canceled due to his illness.

"Ringo has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest," the official statement read .

The announcement also explained that ticket holders for the canceled performances at TD Pavilion in Philadelphia and Radio City Music Hall in New York would be refunded automatically, or they could contact their point of purchase for assistance. Starr's signature message of "peace and love" was included at the end of the announcement.

This sudden cancellation marked the end of what had otherwise been a successful tour. Starr and the All Starr Band began performing earlier in the year, with shows on the West Coast and in Mexico, as well as a residency at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

News of the canceled shows came as a disappointment to many fans, some of whom were just moments away from seeing the drummer perform live. One fan voiced their sadness on Instagram, writing , "Im gonna cry. 4 hours before the show is diabolical 😕😕 [sic]." while another echoed , "I was really looking forward [to] tonight's show. 😢 But I hope Ringo has a quick recovery [sic]!"

Many fans expressed their support and wished him a speedy recovery. One netizen shared , "I'm sad we don't get to see him tonight, but first and foremost, we just want him to be healthy and happy! Get well soon, Ringo! ☮️❤️ [sic]."

Another wrote , "Take care of yourself, Ringo, listen to the doctors. You are precious to us and need to be around for a long time ❤😘 [sic]."

Others who had made significant efforts to attend the concerts also expressed their feelings. One fan from Chile posted , "I had traveled from Chile to see him in NY, I feel sad but I prefer he gets better [sic]."

Another netizen shared , "Oh no, we were half way there when I saw this. Sad for sure but we understand. Hopefully we can see you next time around. Peace and love [sic]." Some fans expressed a desire for the shows to be rescheduled. One said , "Reschedule please, I been dying to see you [sic]."

One netizen added , "Oh, Ringo, please get well soon. I was about to get ready and drive to your show. This would have been my first concert to see a Beatle and I'm 61 years old. It would have been worth the long drive. However, the concert is not as important as your HEALTH. Thank you for following DOCTOR'S ORDERS. Love you forever, Ringo!"

These heartfelt messages highlight the strong bond Starr has maintained with his fans, many of whom have followed his career for decades.

Born on July 7, 1940, in Liverpool, England, the musician rose to fame as the drummer for The Beatles. He became known for his steady rhythms and charismatic personality.

His contributions, including lead vocals on tracks like "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "Yellow Submarine," cemented his place in music history.

Starr joined The Beatles in 1962, replacing Pete Best, just before the band achieved global stardom. After the group disbanded in 1970, he launched a successful solo career, releasing hits like "It Don't Come Easy" and "Back Off Boogaloo." His 1973 album "Ringo" produced singles such as "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful and You're Mine)."

Recognized for his contributions, Starr has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice—once as a Beatle and again as a solo artist. In 1989, he formed the All Starr Band, which featured a rotating lineup of musicians that has toured successfully for decades.

In addition to music, he is known for his "Peace & Love" message, shared annually on his birthday, July 7. Moreover, Starr has acting credits in films like "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" and his 2013 book "Photograph."

As reported previously, Starr's daughter, Lee Starkey, experienced a devastating loss when her mother died of leukemia in 1994. The tragedy was compounded when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor the following year .

Starkey underwent brain surgery at the Brigham and Woman's Hospital in Boston to remove the tumor. The surgery went well, and doctors informed her that she had a great chance of recovery. They happily revealed later that her prognosis was good and that the tumor was "completely removed."

After she was discharged, Starkey was expected to remain in Boston for around six weeks to receive daily treatments at the hospital. She eventually fully recovered, but in 2001, six years later, she faced her second trial with the same disease.

Upon her return to the Boston hospital, tests showed another tumor had developed, and it was a rare form known as an ependymoma. Luckily, Starkey underwent more procedures, managed to beat her second diagnosis, and has since lived a fulfilling life, welcoming triplets along the way.

The triplets consist of two boys, Smokey and Jakamo, and one girl, Ruby Tiger. They have been photographed with their parents at public events over the years, including attending the Rockins Happening event at Liberty London in June 2016.

The following year, Lee opened up about her kids in a rare interview. She revealed that the triplets, who were seven then, were receiving lessons from their famous grandfather.

Jakamo played the drums, Smokey also played drums and guitar, and their sister was more into the piano. Lee also shared how she envisioned the triplets starting their own band when they were older.

The 84-year-old ex-Beatle was supposed to play Tuesday night in Philadelphia and Wednesday at Radio City Music Hall. But on Tuesday afternoon, he announced the cancellations in an Instagram post.

“Ringo has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest,” the post read.

Ringo and his All Starr Band were almost done with a short tour they announced earlier this year. Earlier this month, they played shows in Medford, Mass.; Uncasville, Conn. ; and Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Anyone with tickets to the New York and Philadelphia shows “will be notified via email and will be automatically refunded,” according to Ringo.

“As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon,” the Instagram post concluded.

Ringo and his All Starr Band have been touring in various formations since 1989, led the entire time by the former Beatles drummer. In addition to the East Coast swing this fall, they played several shows out West in the spring, including six concerts in Las Vegas at the Venetian hotel.

“We love it. I know the audience loves me. And I love them,” Starr told Billboard last year when asked about touring. “The band has only one rule: We’re not there to be miserable.”

The current iteration of the All Starr Band includes Steve Lukather from Toto, Warren Ham from Kansas, Edgar Winter, Colin Hay from Men at Work, Hamish Stuart from the Average White Band and Gregg Bissonette.

RINGO STARR ROLLS OUT 2022 ALL STARR BAND DATES

RINGO STARR ROLLS OUT 2022 ALL STARR BAND DATES

PRPhotos.com

Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band has rolled out its rescheduled dates — which were first booked back in 2020. As it stands now, Ringo and the band will kick off the season on June 2nd at Boston's Boch Center Wang Theatre and — as of now — wind things down on June 26th in Clearwater, Florida at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Along the way, Ringo is set to play double nights in Atlanta and Baltimore — with a triple-night run at New York City's Beacon Theatre.

The current edition of the All Starr Band features such veteran All Starr's as Toto 's Steve Lukather , Men At Work 's Colin Hay , Santana and Journey co-founder Gregg Rolie , along with percussionist Warren Ham , drummer Gregg Bissonette , and Hamish Stuart from the Average White Band — and a longtime Paul McCartney sideman.

Over 30 years since launching the first All Starr Band tour, Ringo Starr told us that the format of the show remains an unbeatable proposition: ["Y'know, and if you look at those clips, and the bands I put together, there was an incredible array of musicians. Y'know, it's just. . . for me, it works as a great formula. I didn’t wanna. . . when I thought about this in ’89, I didn’t want to be, like, up front all night. I wanted to play with really good players; I wanted to be able to come down in front and do some numbers like I do, and to play on the (drum) kit. And while I’m playing, I’ve got, y'know, all these different people, so it’s really a great way for me to do it, to have fun."] SOUNDCUE (:31 OC: . . . to have fun)

Ringo Starr cancels Philadelphia and New York shows to recover from illness

By Joe Brandt

September 25, 2024 / 9:46 AM EDT / CBS Philadelphia

Ringo Starr fans expecting to hear "Yellow Submarine" and "Octopus' Garden" were left pleading "Don't Pass Me By" this week as the artist announced he was canceling the final two shows of a tour with his All Starr Band due to illness.

A post on Starr's official Instagram and Facebook pages says the 84-year-old former Beatle "has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor, he was advisted to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ringo Starr (@ringostarrmusic)

Starr and the All Starr Band were set to play Sept. 24 at The Mann in Philadelphia, and on Sept. 25 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

The band started its fall tour on Sept. 7 in San Diego, and most recently performed in Medford, Massachusetts; Uncasville, Connecticut and Niagara Falls, Canada. The current touring group features former members of Toto, the Average White Band and Men at Work.

Starr was using a replica of the drum kit he played when The Beatles performed on CBS' "The Ed Sullivan Show" in 1964 .

Ticketholders should be automatically refunded, according to Starr's post, or customers can contact where they purchased the ticket to receive a refund.

"As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon," the post concluded.

Ringo Starr has been forced to call off the remaining gigs of his American tour due to health reasons. The beloved former Beatles drummer, 84, had to forgo his Philadelphia show on Tuesday.

It followed a subsequent cancelation of Wednesday night's concert in New York. In an announcement on social media , it was shared: "Ringo has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest. As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon."

Fans with tickets for these two scrapped performances will be receiving refunds. The famed musician embarked on this latest series of shows beginning on September 7, having graced the stage last on September 22 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, along with his All Starr Band, reports the Mirror .

The recent April release of Starr's Crooked Boy EP saw a collaboration featuring guitarist Nick Valensi from The Strokes, as he sought more lively tunes from songwriter and producer Linda Perry for the record.

Explaining to Variety , Starr said: "Even on 'February Sky,' it was all about the dark sky everywhere in February, so that's an emotion in there. But I told her, 'There's gotta be a crack - a break in the sky - and the sun is coming out.' Because all my songs have that. They can be 'I'm down, I'm this, I'm that... But things are getting better, things are going up.' They always have a positive upside.

The pair looked thrilled to be back in each other's company again

"'Rewind Forward' [the title song of his previous EP, from 2023] was like that. 'Rewind forward' meant, sometimes you're in a mood, and if you just backtrack a little and then find that (previous) space, and then carry on from that moment, it helps sometimes."

Ringo also requested more rock songs. He added: "I did. (At first) she wrote 'Crooked Boy,' and it was all about the story of my life - you know, I was ill, I was better, I found my own way "She sent me a couple of them, and then I called her and I said, 'Linda, write me a rock song!' And she says, 'What's that?' I said, 'I'll leave it there. Just write me a rock song. ' And she did, of course, and it's called 'Gonna Need Need Someone'. And it did rock, and she put the band together, and then we did a video with the song playing and we are popping in and out."

Ringo's sad tour axe comes after he celebrated his 84th birthday in July with a message of "peace and love". The former Beatle was joined by friends including rock star Joe Walsh, comedian-turned-actor Fred Armisen and musician Diane Warren as well as a limited number of fans to mark the occasion in Beverly Hills.

Ringo celebrated his traditional midday 'peace and love' birthday ritual, leading fans in chanting the familiar phrase and enjoying a birthday serenade. Discussing the lasting impact of the ritual with PA news agency, Sir Ringo noted: "I think a lot of it is a throwback from the 60s, I was in that band and then a lot of it's still from the 60s onwards, but people love it.

"People enjoy the peace and love moments, that's what it's about and that's all I do, peace and love," he added. Since the event's inception in 2008, it has grown internationally.

Overwhelmed by the response in 2022, Sir Ringo said during the gathering: "I am getting overwhelmed, there are so many of you now, we started with like 50 people in 2008," while expressing gratitude to attendees. "(I am) truly grateful that you all turned up today otherwise I'd be lonely all I do is say peace and love. That's all I'm doing and we're going around the world, now we're in 35 countries, most of them have gone back to bed."

Joe Walsh led a celebratory song onstage as the ex-Beatle danced along. Interacting with the audience, Sir Ringo jested, "you can dance if you want too", before concluding with, "I'll be in my room eating cake".

Musicians paid homage to Sir Ringo's work with tribute acts from Ben Harper, Gabe Witcher, Willie Watson, Greg Leisz, Don Was, Ben Dickey and Gregg Bissonette with Steve Dudas.

Ringo stuck down by illness and forced to cancel remaining tour dates

The Beatles legend has been advised to step down from his final two gigs and seek rest

Ringo Starr

Ring Starr and the All Starr Band’s extensive and ongoing tour has been cut short due to illness. The ex- Beatles living legend has had to cancel his final two gigs under doctor’s orders as he recovers from a cold – doubtless with a little help from his (Fisherman’s) friends…

Starr is currently being backed by Toto legend, guitarist Steve Lukather alongside Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, with Gregg Bissonette behind the kit.

The planned nine-date Autumn leg of the band’s tour has now been cut short to seven with the remaining two at TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia on the 24th of September and tonight's scheduled gig at New York’s Radio City Music Hall being cancelled.

Previously the band had spent 2024 touring the West Coast of America and Mexico after kicking off with a six-night mini-residency at The Venetian in Las Vegas.

Ringo Starr’s concert with his All Starr Band at the Mann Center, that was scheduled for Tuesday night , has been cancelled due to illness.

An official statement from the band on Tuesday read: “Today Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band announced that unfortunately they have to cancel their upcoming last two shows including tonight’s performance at TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia, Pa. and tomorrow at Radio City Music Hall in New York City due to illness.

“Ringo has come down with a cold, and after consulting a doctor, he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest.”

Starr, who turned 84 in July, last played in Philadelphia at the Met Philly in 2022. That show had been rescheduled twice due to COVID-19 protocols.

The Philadelphia and New York shows were the final two date on Starr’s 24-date 2024 tour following his latest EP Crooked Boy .

In a press conference to promote the tour earlier this year, the Beatles drummer said of his continued touring and set lists: “It’s a great day out, because people get to hear the songs they love. It’d be funny if I didn’t do “With a Little Help From My Friends,” wouldn’t it? So I do it, because I know they love it. And I love it. So that’s what we do.”

The show will not be rescheduled. In a message to ticket holders, the Mann Center said their ticket office “will process refunds within 7-10 business days. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
