As much as we love traveling abroad, the plethora of romantic escapes in the United States also leaves us with insatiable wanderlust–and with every road trip to visit family or weekend getaway, we try to cross yet another spot off of our long wish list.

For me, the perfect couples’ trip in the US is having the opportunity to walk with my beloved around the city hand-in-hand.

Not many American cities give you this opportunity, but Boston does which makes it an ideal American romantic getaway.

Best of all, Boston has a harbor! You can enjoy a dinner of freshly caught lobsters at sunset and then walk by the waterfront.

Does this sound good? Well, here are a few more ideas about how to spend time with your significant other in Boston.

Have a dinner at the Omni Parker House Restaurant where, as the legend suggests, Kennedy proposed to Jackie Bouvier and where the original Boston cream pie was created over a hundred years ago.

Couples who share a love of cinema can check out the filming locations of their favorite movies.

For example, did you know that you can sit on a bench in the Boston Public Garden where the characters of Matt Damon and Robin Williams sat in  Good Will Hunting ?

And while you are in the Public Garden, take a ride on a swan boat, one of Boston’s iconic attractions.

You can also stop by the bar where Will Hunting and his friends had a beer after work in the same movie.

Other romantic things to do in Boston include visiting the beautiful Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, strolling along the Harborwalk, and even enjoying a sunset cruise overlooking the city .

Consider heading to a show in the theatre district, or heading to the North End to enjoy Italian-American food and beautiful architecture.

Saranac Lake

Saranac Lake is a cute city nestled among 46 High Peaks, Upstate New York.

If you are planning a road trip to the Adirondacks National Park , you can reach it by driving for about two hours from the Big Apple.

The difference between NYC and the amazing forest is striking: it feels unreal that you’re still driving in New York State!

A massive clock tower welcomes visitors to this quaint little town, full of flowers and smiling faces.

Its main street is the perfect spot where you can walk hand in hand at night, with your significant other, crossing wooden bridges, and admiring historical buildings.

Saranac Lake, one of the most beautiful – and less touristy – towns in the Adirondacks, is absolutely breathtaking in the fall: foliage in this area lasts longer than in any other part of the States!

If your beloved one is a hiking addict, you definitely should try one of the trails starting from Saranac Lake.

The difficulty goes from easy to moderately hard and the forests are full of deer and squirrels!

The perfect spot to spend a romantic vacation in Saranac Lake is the Ampersand Bay Resort.

Wooden cabins on the shores of Lower Saranac Lake become romantic love nests where you can spend your evenings enjoying the jacuzzi or drinking hot cocoa next to the fireplace.

Because Saranac Lake is one of those lovely towns where everyone knows each other, and the food scene reminds you of the old times, you won’t have any problem at all in finding the best foodie spots.

One of my favorite breakfast places in town is Origin Coffee: they bake homemade muffins every morning!

The perfect restaurant for dinner is Blue Moon Café , owned by an Italian-American couple who loves to cook and chat with their guests.

Be prepared to be treated with the best food: from the large servings alone you can definitely tell their Italian heritage!

Where to Stay in Saranac Lake

• Hotel Saranac: This historic hotel was built in 1927 and has a classic stately home feel. There is a great bar and restaurant and most rooms have views of the lake
• Franklin Manor: Another historic building perfect for your trip to Saranac Lake. Rooms are huge and feel like a luxury bedroom you may dream of at home. It is also privately owned with that personal touch.

No, not  Portland, Oregon –the lighthouse-and-lobster-loving Portland, Maine!

Known for its charming Portland Head Light, its warehouse-district-turned-trendy-neighborhood of Old Port, and many, many breweries, Portland is an absolute blast to visit.

If you and your partner are looking for a city vacation that also offers beautiful nature and a very relaxed, laid-back vibe, Portland is a fantastic choice.

While you’re there, be sure to take a quick ferry over to nearby Peaks Island for a day, tour the beautiful Victoria Mansion, and enjoy (at least) one afternoon on a sailboat.

Of course, no trip to Portland is complete without snapping photos at the Portland Head Light, but Bug Light deserves a quick look, too!

Portland is also less than an hour by car from famous Kennebunkport–so if you want to mix a famous small town into this romantic getaway in the USA, you absolutely can.

New York City

As one of the most famous and electric cities in the world, there’s no doubt that an action-packed weekend in NYC (or even a full honeymoon trip–both are popular) makes for an excellent romantic trip in the US for couples of all kinds.

Whether you and your partner are museum hoppers, foodies, park lovers, viewpoint seekers, or all of the above, New York City has plenty to offer!

For something memorable, start the day by sharing one of the enormous pastry baskets when you have breakfast at the famous Balthazar in SoHo .

This beautiful restaurant with enormous antique mirrors, red leather banquettes, and wait staff in long white aprons will transport you to another century.

For something uniquely New York, wander hand in hand through Central Park, then in summer rent a boat at the Loeb Boathouse and row around the lake before enjoying a romantic lunch at the lakeside restaurant.

In winter, go ice-skating at Wollman’s Rink before having lunch at the nearby Palm Court restaurant at the famous Plaza Hotel.

Hop over to the  Metropolitan Museum of Art for a coffee in their café overlooking the American wing or on the rooftop terrace overlooking Central Park in summer

If you’re lucky enough to have your trip for 2 overlap with New York at Christmas , don’t miss the chance to stroll hand-in-hand past the city’s legendary decor.

Of course, no romantic getaway in NYC is complete without admiring the skyline from above at a classic spot like the Empire State Building or Top of the Rock , or from a trendy angle like what you’ll find at Summit One Vanderbilt !

If you are downtown, you can rent Citibikes and cycle along the Hudson River then stop for lunch and a glass of wine at  Battery Gardens  restaurant with wonderful views of the harbor sparkling in the sunshine and the Statue of Liberty in the distance.

Don’t miss the opportunity to take in a Broadway show with your partner, either!

Finish a perfect romantic getaway with a cocktail at the Aviary bar on the 35 th  floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel where the views of midtown are to die for, or at Park in the Meat Packing District for a downtown experience in their covered garden or fireside bar.

Tiny, beautiful Nantucket is perfect for couples looking for a small island boasting both an adorable town center and sparkling beaches for their romantic getaway.

Located off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Nantucket is a classic summer retreat and one of the  best places to visit in New England .

While you’re there, consider renting bikes to explore the island together, tracking down all three of Nantucket’s beautiful lighthouses, visiting the Whaling Museum, and of course, enjoying a lobster roll or two!

The absolute best time of year to visit Nantucket is during the island’s famous hydrangea season, which typically runs from late June through most of July (though of course, it can vary).

A 4th of July trip to Nantucket, while certainly a splurge, is easily one of the most romantic US getaway ideas!

Where to Stay in Nantucket

• Seven Sea Street Inn: This cute quiet hotel in the historic district is a short walk to Harbor Beach and offers bike rentals for exploring the area.
• Jared Coffin House: A stunning historic hotel filled with antiques and classic details. You will feel you have stepped back in time!

Niagara Falls

Dial it back a few decades, and Niagara Falls was  the  place to take a honeymoon in North America–and while it’s less iconic on the honeymoon scene now, it’s still a wildly romantic place!

While this blog post does cover romantic destinations in the USA specifically, no discussion of couples vacations to Niagara Falls is complete without pointing out that while the portion of Niagara Falls located in the States is lovely, it’s well worth bringing your passport along and crossing the border into Canada as part of your trip!

However, with boat tours, hiking trails, Old Fort Niagara, and more available on the New York side, it’s safe to say that even a strictly American couples trip to Niagara Falls has plenty of romance to offer.

Don’t miss the Cave of the Winds Experience that will take you right up to Bridal Veils Falls while you’re there!

Prepare to get soaked–but that’s an excellent excuse to relax in a hot tub with a glass of wine, great views, and your partner afterward.

Where to Stay in Niagara Falls

• Stateside – The Butler House: For classic romantic accommodation this is the one to go with in the American side of Niagara Falls. Built in 1910 is the historic craftsman style, this is a cute and cozy hotel for your trip. Location wise you also can’t beat this, just 10 minutes walk from the American Falls and a mile from the International Rainbow Bridge to Canada.
• Canada – Hilton Fallsview: While not the greatest Hilton experience you might expect, but definitely worth it for the views. Expect the usual Hilton features of a good quality hotel but look over the as-close-as-you-could-get views of Niagara Falls.

Beautiful beaches, a unique culture that’s all its own, fabulous architecture, and–of course–plenty of sunshine: you’ll find all of this and far more by heading all the way south to Miami for your couples’ weekend getaway!

When it comes to beaches, South Beach is often considered one of the best urban beaches on the planet, and we’d have to agree.

Don’t limit yourself just to the beach, though!

Be sure to explore Miami Beach’s impressive Art Deco architecture, eat your way through Little Havana, admire street art in Wynwood, and check out the views from Biscayne Bay.

For a unique perspective on the city, consider  taking a boat cruise –we were very impressed with how much we enjoyed ours!

For couples who hope to experience some unique nature in south Florida during their trip, consider also planning on a day trip to nearby Everglades National Park.

Or, if you have a few more days (say, an  extra  long weekend trip), you can road trip all the way to Key West, the southernmost point of the USA (more on that option below!).

New Orleans

The ever-unique and dynamic city of New Orleans, where music spills out from every corner and the scent of food lingers in the air 24 hours a day, is absolutely one of the most romantic cities in the USA.

NOLA has such unique architecture that walking through the streets and seeing the French and Spanish influence that certain parts of the French Quarter can feel like you’re in a European city.

Due to that European influence and the Creole culture that developed, the food in New Orleans is one of a kind.

Among the best things to do is walk through the Garden District or the French Quarter and sit down to eat some beignets, crawfish, jambalaya, fried oysters, or a shrimp po’boy.

Unsurprisingly, New Orleans is home to one of the top food scenes in the country.

The arts scene is also thriving in New Orleans as well. Walking through many parts of the city, you can find local painters and crafters selling their work, as well as plenty of beautiful bookstores .

The many public fountains and squares give the city a charming feel and people-watching can be quite interesting.

Since New Orleans is located at the mouth of the Mississippi River, you can enjoy a peaceful jazz cruise on the river as part of your trip!

At night, the city comes alive with street performers and sidewalk bars to enjoy a cocktail or two. Listening to a jazz band is a great idea while in New Orleans.

There is no shortage of music anywhere you go as restaurants are often playing some type of classic New Orleans jazz.

Overall, New Orleans is a fantastic city to enjoy with a loved one and stroll through the streets, eating, drinking, and enjoying its’ unique charm.

While Nashville is a popular option for friends’ trips and girls’ getaways because of the fun nightlife, a Nashville weekend getaway  is also a solid choice for US couples looking for a unique romantic trip.

Music-loving couples will enjoy the abundance of music-themed museums as well as nightlife options.

Stroll hand-in-hand through the Country Music Hall of Fame or visit the Johnny Cash Museum for a unique insight into the artistic genius who gave the world “Walk the Line” and “Ring of Fire.”

While the honky-tonks on Broadway are always a raucous good time, couples would be better suited with a romantic visit to the Grand Ole Opry, a thrice-weekly live concert and radio show.

It’s the longest-running radio broadcast in United States history and being part of it is great fun–be sure to take the tour backstage!

Other romantic things for couples to do include strolling the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, which has beautiful views over downtown Nashville.

Couples will also love strolling around Centennial Park with its replica of the Parthenon.

Patient Instagram husbands will endure being dragged to the Gulch, a vibrant district with tons of colorful walls and street art including the famous “Nashville wings.”

Finally, couples can stuff their face with delicious Nashville BBQ – two of my favorite spots are Acme Feed & Seed and Martin’s BBQ.

Whatever you do, though, be careful with Nashville’s famous hot chicken: the resulting stomachaches from trying chicken too far out of your comfort zone are far from romantic!

Where to Stay in Nashville

• Hutton Hotel: Book into this stylish hotel for your romantic trip, relax on the hotel balcony, or stroll 10 minutes to Music Row.
• Virgin Hotels: Part of the Virgin Group and with all the luxury details you might expect, with plenty of red and white details. Many rooms have balconies with views of the city.

Without a doubt, Savannah is one of our favorite romantic getaways in the USA.

Dripping Spanish moss, Savannah’s 22 beautiful town squares, stunning antebellum architecture, and an epic food scene all contribute to making Savannah one of the most romantic cities in the USA.

During a weekend in Savannah with your beloved, be sure to stroll through the lovely Forsyth Park and down Jones Street (often called the most beautiful street in the USA!).

At night, give yourselves an excuse to hold each other tight on a ghost tour!

Art lovers can consider a visit to the Telfair Museum of Art or shopSCAD, the store run by the students of the well-known Savannah College of Art and Design, or browse the boutiques along Broughton Street.

Of course, no romantic trip to Savannah could be complete without at least one fantastic southern meal– Savannah’s restaurants are legendary in the south.

The Olde Pink House, The Grey, and Elizabeth of 37th are all popular romantic choices for a bit of a splurge, and Alligator Soul is a great option for more adventurous eaters.

For dessert, consider stopping by the famous Leopold’s Ice Cream, which has been a beloved Savannah tradition for nearly 100 years!

If ice cream isn’t your thing, consider a visit to one of Savannah’s charming coffee shops or to City Market instead–among other treats, City Market features candy stores selling pralines, one of the most well-known desserts in Savannah.

Where to Stay in Savannah

• The Marshall House: For your trip to Savannah you absolutely have to stay in one of the historic houses, this hotel is a perfect choice. Built in 1851 this is a staple part of Savannah’s history, rooms are decadent and cozy, and the hotel offers a nightly wine reception in the library and cocktails in the bar.
• Hampton Inn & Suites: Another wonderful hotel in Savannah’s historic district, this provides a modern refresh of a classic luxury hotel. Rooms are bright and comfortable, and a fabulous complimentary breakfast is served on the hotel terrace each morning.

Few other places in the country rival Key West for popular romantic getaways in the USA.

Key West is the land of “Southernmost”: Southernmost Highway, Southernmost Brewery, Southernmost Tattoos.

Understandable, as this is the southmost point in the continental United States that you can reach without ever leaving your car!

Key West is located just 90 miles from Havana, Cuba and, despite the touristy reputation, it can be an exotic and romantic destination for couples.

The island has no shortage of exciting history and tourist attractions.

Some of the more famous things to do in Key West include the Southernmost Point Buoy and Historic Marker, Duval Street, Ernest Hemingway House and Museum, The Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory, and the Key West Lighthouse.

Be sure to stop by the lighthouse for a classic Key West photo op with your partner!

Head out to Malloy Square for a romantic sunset.It is a popular place to view street performances, all while sipping coconut or pineapple drinks and snacking on fried conch bites.

And of course, no trip to Key West would be complete without trying a slice of Key Lime Pie (you might not want to bother splitting one, though–better for the relationship to each get your own!).

Charleston, South Carolina is one of the most romantic getaways in the USA.

The city is filled with southern charm, great food, colorful historic houses, gardens, parks, and much more, all perfect for exploring with your partner.

As one of the oldest cities in the south, Charleston is packed full of history–though much of it is unsurprisingly quite dark.

Taking a historic walking tour with your significant other is an absolute must.

Learning about the trials and tribulations the city endured over the years is not only educational but makes you appreciate its history even more.

The classic architecture takes you back in time, giving the city so much personality.

The lovely colors and architectural features make for great couples’ pictures–Rainbow Row is one of the most popular photo spots in Charleston , and it’s no surprise why.

One of the absolute best things to do in Charleston is to eat! The food is unbelievable and your days in Charleston should be food-centric.

Make sure to make reservations in advance if you want a great romantic dinner at well-known restaurants like FIG. Getting into the more popular restaurants can be difficult.

Of course, Charleston’s location near the beach is also a big draw for couples looking for romance: Sullivan’s Island, Folly Beach, and the Isle of Palms are all at your fingertips when visiting Charleston.

In the end, Charleston is a fun, charming city and is the perfect weekend getaway with your significant other.

Where to Stay in Charleston

• Market Pavillion Hotel : This hotel is a stunning choice in the heart of the historical district. Of all of the romantic USA weekend trips covered here, Asheville is one of the best options for a couple divided on whether to visit a city or the great outdoors.

Home to an epic craft beer scene, the incredible Biltmore Estate , plenty of street art, and delicious food options, there’s no doubt that Asheville appeals to the city lovers among us.

Its location right next door to plenty of wonderful hikes in the Pisgah National Forest and Great Smoky Mountain National Park, however, makes it a fabulous US weekend destination for couples who are outdoor enthusiasts, as well.

No matter what your interests are, try to make time during your trip to Asheville to drive a small piece of the Blue Ridge Parkway–especially if you’re visiting in the fall and can enjoy the changing colors.

Often considered one of the most beautiful road trips in the United States, it’s a romantic destination not to be missed.

For a beautiful stop on the Blue Ridge Parkway close to Asheville, hike the short trail to Craggy Pinnacle for sweeping 360-degree views of the mountains and an opportunity for some incredible couples photos.

Where to Stay in Asheville

• Cedar Crest Inn: This pink 1891 mansion house is a perfect place to base yourself in Asheville. Packed with historical details and stunning architecture you can imagine it as a mini Biltmore.
• Aloft: If your trip includes your furry family member this is the most pet friendly place you would wish for. Dogs and cats stay for free and are provided with beds, treats and facilities, exactly as human guests would expect from a luxury hotel stay. Almost no area of the hotel is off limits to your pup, and the hotel also partners with a local shelter offering homes for dogs until they are adopted.

North Carolina Coast

Whether you’re visiting classic Outer Banks beach towns like Duck, Kitty Hawk, and Nags Head, heading a bit further south to the Crystal Coast to visit places like Beaufort and Atlantic Beach , or even heading all the way south to Wilmington, there’s no doubt that the North Carolina Coast offers an incredible chance for romance.

Lined with small beach towns, historic lighthouses, excellent seafood, and even unique attractions like wild horses that live on deserted barrier islands, the North Carolina Coast is an unbeatable destination for a southern USA romantic getaway.

… And you can enjoy all that the NC coast has to offer without the prices of popular places further south in Florida or further north in New England.

While you’re there, consider driving at least part of the stunning Outer Banks Scenic Byway, climbing to the top of a lighthouse or two for an incredible view (we’re partial to Cape Lookout ourselves), enjoying the sunset from a boat, and spending plenty of time with your toes in the sand.

If you start your trip to the North Carolina Coast in Raleigh, you may be able to add other cool stops in Eastern NC as you make your way to the beach!

Consider visiting New Bern for its historic downtown, or Kinston to eat at Vivian Howard’s celebrated Chef and the Farmer restaurant (be sure to make reservations well in advance!) before making your way to the coast.

Where to Stay on the North Carolina Coast

• Outer Banks Beach Club: Better book fast because this hotel in Kill Devil Hills sells out fast! The resort is set up as residence style apartments for a homey summer vacation with access to indoor and outdoor pools and views of the ocean.
• Wild Horse Inn: Situated in Corolla this pretty Inn provides comfortable accommodation with a garden and private parking. It is also walking distance to beaches.

Carmel-by-the-Sea

If you are looking for a romantic getaway in California , consider a weekend in Carmel-by-the-Sea.

A charming little village in the Monterey Peninsula, Carmel-by-the-Sea offers a variety of activities in a really adorable setting.

Start your weekend with a romantic glass of wine and some fruit and cheese on the beautiful Carmel Beach, where you can sit on the sand and watch the sunset over the water.

Then, enjoy a romantic dinner at one of many world-class restaurants in the village before retiring to your room at one of the cute inns or bed-and-breakfasts in the village.

Carmel-by-the-Sea does not allow big chain hotels, so it’s dotted with really cozy places to stay, complete with window boxes stuffed with flowers.

The next morning, enjoy a late breakfast, followed by a walk around the one square mile of Carmel Village.

You will see wonderful art galleries, one-of-a-kind boutique stores, and lots of fun food and wine places.

With its secret passageways, lovely courtyards, and great Spanish architecture, the village is perfect for strolling arm-in-arm. Then do a lazy laid-back brunch–a Carmel-by-the-Sea must!

In the afternoon, drive out to Point Lobos State Reserve, a stunning oceanside park a scant few minutes from the village.

Walk an oceanside trail, with the sea breeze ruffling your hair, and admire the wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean.

It is not only the commercial center of the island, but is also the home of the world-famous Waikiki Beach.

Every evening tourists make a pilgrimage to this beach to watch the orange-pink sunset–at least the ones who aren’t already there from soaking up the sun all day.

If you are up for some romance, come here for sunset or book yourself a table at one of the nice hotels that are located right on the beach.

Imagine the perfect Hawai’i sunset and put some bubbles to it – sounds just perfect, right?

Waikiki has great waves for beginner surfers and is the perfect spot to try out a new skill with your beloved.

During the day it’s time to seek out viewpoints: drive up the serpentines along the Tantalus Highway to get a full picture of O’ahu and bring yourself some typical Hawaiian poke bowl which you can best get at Keeaumoku Seafood.

Also, Fremont, not Freemont. I lived in Seattle and environs for 52 years and moved to Idaho to retire and be closer than 800 miles away to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. I am surprised you didn’t also mention Jackson, Wyoming as a place to get away to! It’s turned into quite the foodie place, too. It’s also called “Jackson Hole” by many people.

And for an extra romantic experience, you can visit the Saratoga Spa State Park, which has mineral baths and a pool complex. Located in upstate New York, Saratoga Springs is one of the best places to visit for a getaway in the northern parts of the state.

The Florida Keys is one of our favorite places in the United States. This archipelago at the southern tip of Florida makes for a fantastic romantic getaway, offering a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and natural beauty.

This tropical paradise is party central, but it also boasts crystal-clear waters, making it ideal for romantic activities like snorkeling, sunset sailing, and kayaking through serene mangroves.

The Keys’ laid-back atmosphere is perfect for couples seeking to unwind, with luxurious beachfront resorts offering private cabanas and spa services. The scenic Overseas Highway connecting the islands provides an unforgettable road trip.

Key West, the most famous of the islands, offers plenty of attractions, and historical sites. Key Largo is the bridge between the mainland and the Keys while a stop at Isla Morada will give you all the island activities you could hope for.

Biscayne National Park is the place you dream about when imagining a romantic sunset. It is predominantly a region of protected water, with a collection of historical shipwrecks and beautiful coral reefs. In fact, 95% of this national park is water, so you’ll spend your time aboard boats and canoes or with a snorkel mask and diving tank. The best places to stay are nearby along the shoreline – Biscayne National Park is best for water-loving couples.

• The Palm Inn & Suites  is a lovely place to stay in Kendall, roughly between Miami and Biscayne National Park. It has everything you need, from a fitness center to a beautiful pond outside for a bit of greenery.
• Courtyard by Marriott Miami Homestead is a smart-looking chain property located in the nearby city of Homestead, providing great access to the national park. It has everything you’d expect from a major hotel, including a gym.

25. Jekyll Island State Park

Jekyll Island State Park is a beautiful 5,500-acre island off the coast of Georgia. If you’ve heard of it before, you are most likely conjuring images of giant driftwood trees on beaches – the aptly named Driftwood Beach and the top attraction on the island. However, there’s also the Georgia Sea Turtle Center and eerie Horton House, aka the ruins of an old brewery and 18th-century house. The park is the ultimate exciting island getaway for a couple.

• Courtyard by Marriott  is a familiar name, and you’ll have the bonus of big chain luxury on Jekyll Island. The beachfront property has direct beach access and a vast pool.
• Beachview Club Hotel  is a gorgeous property with private gardens and a pool. It has a boutique vibe and is a more exclusive place to stay on Jekyll Island. 

26. Savannah

Savannah is another addition from Georgia and is a significant city with horse-drawn carriages and antebellum architecture. Stroll the manicured Forsyth Park, walk past 19th-century mansions in the North Historic District, and take in Savannah’s stately waterfront. Savannah is unbeatable for a taste of southeastern culture, and its architecture and atmosphere make it super romantic.

• Cambria Hotel Savannah Downtown  is a super historic hotel in the city center. It features a fitness center and a restaurant onsite.
• Bellwether House  is a beautiful boutique and traditional hotel. The house serves afternoon tea, brunch, and high tea.

27. Grayton Beach State Park

Northwest Florida doesn’t get as much tourism and recognition, but that’s perfect for Grayton Beach State Park. This stunning white sand beach park is between Destin and Panama City Beach and is heaven on Earth. If you want a romantic beach break, this is our spot. The thin white sands are gentle underfoot, and you can also explore Western Lake and enjoy hikes like the Canopy Walk.

• Resort Style Pool  is set in Santa Rosa Beach and has a vast swimming pool. You can rent the whole holiday home, which has six bedrooms.
• This beautiful three-bedroom is pet-friendly and located right on the beachfront. It is ideal if you want a self-catered option near Grayton Beach State Park. 

28. Charleston, South Carolina

With its blend of historical charm and romantic ambiance, Charleston, South Carolina is undoubtedly one of the best getaways for couples in the USA. When I stumbled on the website for Little Palm Island in the Florida Keys, I thought I hit the jackpot with everything that I wanted for our anniversary trip. A private island, our own tropical villa, and the most romantic atmosphere I can imagine within the continental United States. And then I looked at the price and realized I needed to hit the jackpot, or the lottery, to make even a splurge trip here a reality.

But if you are ready to spend, it is no surprise that Little Palm Island was included in the top resorts in the United States (and the World) by the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.

A must-do is a bus trip to the park (there is no other way to get into the park, except for sightseeing flights). There are several alternatives and tours you can choose from (the deeper you go into the park, the more wildlife you see). You can also head out into the wild with your partner for a few days with a “camper bus”. Backpacking in Denali National Park is a very unique and romantic experience. If you decide on a backpacking adventure, start at the Ranger station to get your permit and learn about camping safety.

The coolest accommodation in the area is Kantishna Roadhouse – a full-service backcountry lodge located 90 miles into pristine nature.

The best time to visit the Denali National Park is in the summer season, approximately from June to August. At the end of August, there is a good chance to see the Northern Lights.

While some people come to Key West for the attractions alone, it’s a great place to get kick back and spend quality time with your significant other. Why not get active and explore the island together by bike. At the end of the day, treat yourself to the local delicacy Conch (pronounced Konk) at one of the many awesome restaurants in the area.

If you are feeling like a lazy couples vacation, you could always just stay all day  at any one of the many Romantic hotels in Key West and take advantage of all the amenities. After all, isn’t that what vacations are all about?!

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is a great destination for couples because it presents so many activities and amenities that’ll keep you busy all weekend. Make the most of the area by visiting Milwaukee’s downtown area and taking a tour of the Harley-Davidson Factory.

If you’re looking for nature, head over to Bradford Beach, a popular spot for sunbathing. “The Cream City” also has an array of unique restaurants with a large multi-cultural menu to enjoy. From breweries and wineries to restaurants and shops, there’s something for everyone in Milwaukee.

Mount Rainier National Park

Located south of Seattle in the state of Washington, Mount Rainier is the tallest peak in the Cascades and is a great place to visit for an outdoorsy couple.

Nicknamed Tacoma, “place where the water begins”, by Native American tribes, Mount Rainer National Park is absolutely stunning. The air at the National Park is fresh, and sweet smelling and the snow-molten water is like cold crisp air.

There are opportunities for horseback riding, fishing, and camping in the area. The Park also has several campgrounds with different amenities, such as tent sites or cabins for couples who prefer glamping. The scenic vistas from Paradise and Sunrise Points can be enjoyed by visitors on the Skyline Trail at Paradise.

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Nantucket, a small island off the coast of Massachusetts, on the Atlantic Ocean near Cape Cod . With a small population of 6,000, the island is perfect for couples who are looking for a quiet romantic getaway, away from the crowds.

If you are wondering when to visit the area, summertime is truly the crown jewel of the year with sun shining, the beaches full of people, and the warm weather.  Known as “America’s Island” because of its great natural beauty and spectacular scenery.

Napa Valley, California

Why is Napa Valley, California a good romantic destination?

First off, it’s remote, it’s charming, and it’s never overcrowded. There are also plenty of romantic places to visit in the wine-producing region. For an obvious one – vineyards. There are an abundance of awesome wineries in the area with vineyards that date back to the late 1800s.

It is also an excellent place for intimate weddings – if you are engaged and looking for your wedding spot, it is a good idea to check this out.

Nashville, tennessee.

It’s always vacation time in Nashville, which makes it the perfect place for couples to vacation. If you love country or country music you will adore Nashville. You’ll dance the night away at some clubs, or sit back, watching the beautiful scenery, sipping some local brews.

Whether it’s walking the Country Music Hall of Fame, dining at one of Nashville’s many great restaurants, or standing atop the Ryman Auditorium, a trip to “Music city”, is a great way to get a taste of some of America’s best music, and beautiful landscapes.

New Orleans

New Orleans has long been known for its romantic charm. Steamboat rides, Mardi Gras, and eating Cajun foods are perfect ways to spend intimate time with your significant other in this Southern city.

“The Big Easy”, also offers some of the nation’s best jazz clubs, where couples can enjoy live performances while getting close and personal on their dates.

The French Quarter, known for its walking tours through the French Market, is a prominent hub for tourists and locals. The French Market has plenty of restaurants and vendors, with places for locals and tourists to come and shop.

Ocean Grove, New Jersey

Ocean Grove is a great place for couples to go on vacation. The oceanfront location of the town offers some spectacular views and its proximity to New York City , makes it seem like you’re not that far away from your everyday life.

Ocean Grove also has some amazing restaurants, shops, and other attractions that make this town an ideal romantic getaway spot. There is also an amazing boardwalk that overlooks the ocean, which makes for some great scenery. The locals are friendly and welcoming to visitors who want to experience the beauty of this seaside town.

Palm Beach, Florida

Palm Beach is a beautiful place to visit. The beaches are gorgeous, the weather is perfect year-round, and there are so many things to do in the area.

Palm Beach has some great restaurants with delicious food that you can enjoy together while gazing at the ocean. A few romantic things to do in Palm Beach, Florida include going on a boat ride at sunset or having dinner by the beach. There is also an art museum that has some great exhibits for couples who want to spend time together in the town nicknamed, “The Island.”

Park City, Utah

We love Utah so anywhere in Utah is always a winner but Park City for a couples vacation springs to mind.

Park City is a unique, small town that has many things to do for couples. The city’s slogan, Parks and Rec, speaks to the various activities that are available in the area. From skiing and snowboarding to hiking or biking through scenic trails, Park City provides something for everyone.

It also offers plenty of opportunities for romance with its fantastic restaurants, spas, and other romantic spots around town. This beautiful getaway is also the location of the Sundance Film Festival, which brings in many celebrities each year. 

Portland, Oregon

Portland, Oregon is a great city for couples to go on romantic getaways. The city is filled with scenic parks and gardens where you can enjoy the natural beauty of the town. There’s also a host of restaurants, both indoor and outdoor, and unique shops with handmade items, as well as boutique stores.

The Portland Japanese Garden is a place you might want to visit in town. The garden features traditional Japanese design and is an awesome place for relaxing and taking pictures. There are also many biking trails and walking paths in the area for people who want something a little more active.

Romantic Getaways in the USA

Providence, rhode island.

Providence has a lot of history and beautiful architecture, it’s a city that people love. The town is known for its academic and economic power, but it is also a fascinating little city.

Roger Williams Park is one of the most romantic places in Providence. There are museums on Rhode Islands that give tours of the past. If you want to be active, try kayaking, at Mount Hope Bay, or a tour of Brown University on a bike.

San Diego, California

San Diego is a wonderful place to go for couples. There’s something for everyone in San Diego to enjoy.

You don’t have to worry about being too far from civilization if you want to spend time with your partner by going on hikes or enjoying the outdoors. Fresh seafood dishes can be found in many excellent restaurants. The San Diego zoo is a great place for animal lovers.  Balboa Park in San Diego features Spanish-style architecture and gardens filled with flowers, fountains, and sculptures.

San Francisco, California

San Francisco is an ideal mini vacation spot for couples. A city celebrated for romance, stunning landscapes, and a vibrant nightlife. No wonder it’s often called “the city that never sleeps”.

Savannah, Georgia

Savannah, Georgia is a romantic destination. There’s numerous beautiful squares and parks to explore, such as Forsyth Park. The Park is especially beautiful at night when all the lights are lit up.

Seattle, Washington

Seattle, Washington is a romantic place for couples because it offers tons of outdoor activities that will allow you to spend quality time with your significant other. Seattle has many parks where you can hike or cycle. Definitely a great way to get exercise and explore the city.

Seattle is breathtaking. Enjoy the view from the Space Needle, visit Pike Place Market, and the famous troll under the Aurora Bridge. Traverse City, Michigan

This getaway has magnificent scenic views of Michigan. It’s a great place to visit if you’re a foodie, tasting different flavors from around the world. The ideal romantic destination because of its beautiful landscapes. Activities such as wine tasting, and golfing are few of the activities to enjoy while visiting the ‘Queen City”.

The Grand Hotel on Lake Michigan proclaims to have the world’s largest porch. There’s several rooms at the hotel. Cruising Lake Michigan and fishing off the pier can be enjoyed by everyone. The city offers various points of interest to satisfy your getaway needs.

White Mountain, New Hampshire

White Mountain, located in the Southern part of New Hampshire. This mountain in Concord offers impressive views of the White Mountain National Forest and a picturesque train ride to the summit. The area is known for its natural beauty with a population of 3,300.

The town adds appeal to a trail, providing large portions of visitors with food and lodging as they hike. There’s a variety of restaurants, with 12 ski resorts in the area, so if you are looking for a new vacation spot for your significant other, you should consider going to White Mountain.

Let’s break this list down by region. I’ll start at the western side of the U.S. and head east. We’ll find hidden gems and bonus spots along the way!

Some of my favorite spots to visit are the underrated destinations in the US , so when you see a location you’re not familiar with, that can only be a good thing!

Also, just a quick note, here. There’s some of these states could be in multiple lists. Just go with the flow, okay? 🙂

Best romantic destinations in California

California is a huge state with a lot of incredibly romantic spots. Because of that, I’ve included more locations than any other state. It’s romantic any time of year, and a fun honeymoon idea is to take a scenic fall road trip from San Francisco to Napa Valley – how fun!

My favorite spot from the list above is Coronado Island, California. Watching the sunset on the beach in Coronado Island is like no other. The sand has a special mineral in it that literally makes it sparkle like diamonds. It looks so magical!

Stay at the famous Hotel Del Coronado for the best views. Or for a more affordable spot, head a vacation rental in nearby San Diego.

Pacific Northwest: romantic vacations in the US

Yes, it rains in the Pacific Northwest. A lot. But do you know what that rain gets you? Gorgeous, lush rainforests and bursting waterfalls ready for a couples’ adventure!

Don’t sleep on Idaho, either. With hidden gems across the state, visiting Sun Valley is one of the top cool things to do in Idaho .

My favorite on the list above is Mount Rainier National Park. I love an awesome national park trip, and Mount Rainier is one of the finest you’ll get in the USA!

The forests and coasts of the Pacific Northwest are unmatched landscape in the US. With rugged, raw beauty, you’re going to have an incredibly romantic couples vacation!

Top getaways in the Southwest

Ahhh, the American Southwest. Known for it’s heat, desert scenery and abundance of national parks. It’s a perfect spot for those who love adventure!

I actually have 2 favorites on the list above. I absolutely loved my last couples getaway to Las Vegas, mainly for all the hiking and Red Rocks Canyon scenic drive in the national conservation area.

And if you have a week for vacation, one of my very favorite romantic vacations for two has got to be Moab, Utah!

Stay in an affordable, private vacation rental and spend your time hiking in Canyonlands National Park and seeing some of mother nature’s best work at Arches National Park .

Best romantic vacations for two in the Western United States

• Glacier National Park, Montana
• Grand Lake, Colorado
• Dillon, Colorado
• Jackson Hole, Wyoming

So I loooove a good Colorado trip . But my absolute favorite on this short list above is Glacier National Park in Montana. I’m confident it’s one of the most beautiful spots in the entire United States!

It’s a phenomenal spot for couples to get some fresh air and see the Crown of the Continent together. Whether you like hiking or just enjoy beautiful alpine lakes and epic views, there’s plenty of things to do in Glacier National Park for couples.

The best time to visit Glacier NP is July through September for a fully open park, but it’s phenomenal any time of year.

I’d highly recommend a Midwest road trip for quality time in the car, and to see multiple destinations. I’ve been to many of the above spots with my husband, but my favorite on the list is Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Minneapolis is the big city that’s got friendly Midwestern vibes, and is surprisingly easy to get around. With excellent restaurants, lakes and plenty of other things to do, Minneapolis is always a good time!

While this is just a short list of romantic getaways in the Midwest, this section of the country is often overlooked and there’s so much to do here!

Just pausing as we make our way across the US for this very important list of special locations. Found across the continent, these hidden gems in the US would make awesome romantic vacations for two!

My favorite of the hidden gems in the US is definitely Sylvan Lake, Colorado. It’s nestled within the Rocky Mountains, it’s part of Sylvan Lake State Park. It’s a stunning lake perfect for a couples getaway.

Reserve your space for two in a cabin or yurt. Hike the nearby trails for incredible views of the lake, or rent a canoe for the day. It’s a beautiful mountain setting that’s far less busy than the more popular spots in Colorado like Estes Park, Aspen or Telluride.

Alright y’all – the South is a fabulous spot for a romantic vacation for two! I’ve been to many cities across the South with my husband, and it’s truly hard to pick a favorite. From the best restaurants in Greenville SC to beaches, romantic things to do in Nashville , wide open green spaces and cities with historic architecture, there’s never a dull moment in the South!

I’d have to say Austin, Texas is one of the best romantic vacations in the United States. A few years ago my husband and I celebrated an anniversary weekend in Austin and it was fabulous!

We stuffed ourselves with BBQ, enjoyed cocktails in front of live music, went mural hunting and even hit up a few hiking trails! Austin is great time, and one of my favorite romantic vacations in the South.

Best USA vacation spots in the Mid-Atlantic region

The east coast has so many amazing destinations, I wish I could include more on this list!

My favorite destination for this region is Niagara Falls. It’s such a dreamy spot for couples to enjoy! Seeing the rushing water of the falls – and feeling it from the distance – is an incredible sensation! Writing this, I can still feel the mist on my face!

While the falls are beautiful all year round, I’d recommend avoiding it in winter. You’ll want to spend plenty of time outdoors near the falls and temperatures are more tolerable the rest of the year.

By the way – be sure to bring your passports for a trip to the Niagara Falls. You can enjoy the falls from the USA but you’ll et more views if you cross the bridge to Canada.

The east coast and specifically the New England region is a beautiful spot for weekend getaways for couples. Many locations on this list are easy to make a quick weekend trip, or you can opt to spend a bit more time with a longer vacation. And during the fall, a foliage road trip is such a fun, romantic way to spend some time together.

My favorite in New England has got to be Acadia National Park. I love visiting destinations with stunning sights, and Acadia NP certainly has many of them! The sights are beautiful, and so is the wildlife.

Whale watching in Acadia National Park is such a fun thing for couples to enjoy. Take a tour for action up close or catch a glimpse of them from the coast. Seeing the largest living creature on earth flow through the water with ease is truly a sight to see!

Florida’s best weekend getaways for couples

One of the best romantic vacations in the United States must be Florida! My husband and I have traveled to Florida many times, and perhaps the most memorable of those trips was our road trip from Miami to Key West .

We spent a week in the keys, soaking up all the sunshine and couples time we could get. Relaxing on hammocks with the tropical breeze in our hair…does it get more romantic than that?

One of my favorite parts about Key West is that it’s a 2-wheel town. You can easily get around on a bicycle, scooter or moped. Rent wheels for the day and explore the island!

Romantic vacations for two: bonus locations!

Kauai is the perfect getaway for couples because it’s a nice mix of relaxation and adventure. I took my 10-year anniversary trip to Kauai and it was perfect!

Have a romantic dinner for two while overlooking the ocean sunset. See stunning waterfalls and snorkel with sea turtles. Spend the day hiking the Kalalau Trail on one of the most prestigious coastlines in the world – the stunning NaPali Coast.

Enchanting sunsets, cold drinks, cool breezes. Beach getaways are naturally wonderful vacation destinations for couples and all kinds of travelers.

Well, you don’t have to venture far to experience a gorgeous beach getaway. We’ve put together a list of some of the best romantic beach getaways in the USA, with help from fellow travel experts. Waikiki Beach

Waikiki is fantastic any time of year, although it’s less crowded in the shoulder season of February-May and September-early December.

Couples can take a morning stroll along Waikiki Beach and watch an incredible sunrise. The views of Diamond Head are especially beautiful during this time of day.

If you are adventurous, Waikiki Beach is a great place to learn how to surf or go stand up paddle-boarding.

Or check out one of the many tiki bars and taste all kinds of Hawaiian cocktails. Many of them have live Hawaiian music and hula dancing during happy hour.

Some of the resorts even offer oceanside massages and private beach cabanas, making Waikiki an awesome  Oahu honeymoon  location.

Pismo Beach, California

Located on the California Central Coast , just a 3 hour drive from both Los Angeles and San Francisco , Pismo Beach is a quiet, charming beach town. Some of the best romantic things to do include going for a romantic walk on the beach promenade or relax at the nearby Avila Hot Springs.

For sunset you can either soak in the views at Dinosaur Caves Park or opt for a horseback ride on the beach. Head for dinner to Oyster Loft, named one of the top romantic restaurants in the US in 2018, or have the best clam chowder ever at Splash Cafè. And if wine sounds like a good idea, you’re in luck as the wine country is right around the corner.

Pismo Beach is a year-long destination, but my favorite time of the year is the spring or early fall, when it’s quiet and the weather just perfect.

The Oregon Coast

The  Oregon Coast  is one of the most beautiful and romantic places to visit as a couple. Along the coast, the incredible sites, beaches, and rock formations make for a beautiful setting, in addition to the wonderful cities and places to stay as you make your way up and down the coast.

Starting on the northern section of the coast, Astoria, Seaside, Ecola State Park, and Cannon Beach are beautiful places full of outdoor adventures. The Tillamook Creamery is a fun stop where you can sample cheeses and ice cream, followed by some excursions on the Oregon sand dunes and Bandon Beach. Finish your road trip heading through the Samuel H Boardman State Scenic Corridor, one of the single most epic drives in the entire United States. Every 2 miles is an incredible beach, lookout, or hike.

Along your adventure, stop at any of the cute small towns and find a quaint hotel with a vacancy for you and your honey. These hideaways make for a great place to hang your hat, relax and recharge for another day adventuring on the Oregon Coast. Enjoy!

Naples, Florida

Florida is home to some of the most romantic resorts in the USA . Couples from around the world come to  Naples in particular for a romantic stay, usually during the fall and winter months when it’s not so hot and humid.

And if lazy afternoons on the beach is all you’re after,  Naples  is perfect for that. Just be sure and stay for one or two fiery sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico!

Kona, Hawaii

Located on the Big Island of Hawaii, Kona is one of the best beach destinations in the United States. There are tons of beautiful beaches in the area from the famous Makalawena white sand beach to the black sand beach at Kiholo Bay and many more, they are literally everywhere! 

The beaches in the Kona area are perfect for couples wanting to take a stroll on the beach or relax in the sun. There is even a beach along the main drive, Ali’i Drive where you can even sunbathe and then visit the Kona Farmers Market across the street for some shopping and delicious eats. 

Anytime is a good time to visit Kona, the weather is warm throughout the year however it can be rainy during the winter.

Newport, Rhode Island

Newport, RI is an idyllic location for a romantic beach getaway.  Newport is an island located off the coast of the smallest state in the USA, Rhode Island.

Galveston Island, Texas

A small barrier Island located just 50 miles south of Houston , Galveston has a lot to offer for couples.

If you like the beach, Galveston has 32 miles of coast with beaches ranging from State Parks where you can relax under the sun, birdwatching, to East Beach the so-called party beach, to anything in between.

If you are interested in history, this Island has plenty for you to explore, some outstanding museums and quirky and interesting tours like the red light district can entice your other half. With some great historic hotels in the downtown area or an oceanfront room on the Seawall, the choices are vast.

The Strand, a historic park of town, offers an array of bars and restaurants that are walking distance from each other and you can’t miss the Postoffice district is a must for the art galleries and antique shops.

Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Delaware is one of the most underrepresented states in America, but it’s home to one of the best beaches in the country – Rehoboth Beach . That’s especially true of those seeking a romantic getaway, and definitely true for those in the LGBT community. 

One of the most romantic beachside things a couple can do is stroll along the boardwalk and listen to the ocean. You can easily do this along Rehoboth Beach, and at the end of the boardwalk you can find the best gay beach along the east coast. It’s a romantic stop for any LGBT travelers and found where the boardwalk ends and Queen street begins.

On the awaiting beach, deemed Poodle Beach, you’ll find a friendly LGBT crowd of mostly gay men. It’s one of the cleanest beaches in the entire United States and you can guarantee a good time with friendly locals, good music and flowing refreshments. Poodle Beach is even known for local events like Drag Volleyball each Labor Day. Regardless of when you visit, you’re guaranteed a good time, decent waves and a clean beach in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

Key West, Florida

As one of our favorite beach spots in the US, Key West is also a perfect spot for a romantic getaway. Key West is Florida’s southernmost point and home to all the attractions you could want on a vacation. Plus, since Key West is located near the Caribbean, there are warm temperatures year-round so it’s a great destination any time of the year. 

Spend the day at Smathers Beach, the largest beach in Key West, to relax by the ocean. For something a little more adventurous, consider booking a sunset helicopter ride over the Florida Keys. The views are truly magical! You’ll also need to have lunch or dinner at Latitude located on Sunset Key. It’s the best spot in Key West to watch the sunset over a delicious meal. 

Once you go to Key West once, you’ll be wanting to go back again!

Luquillo Beach, Puerto Rico

Looking for the ultimate romantic beach getaway in the US? Head to Luquillo Beach in Puerto Rico! Just a short drive from San Juan, Luquillo Beach makes a fun and convenient addition to your  Puerto Rico itinerary . The crescent-shaped public beach is beautiful, and it is incredibly romantic, especially if you visit on a week day or in the off season when you might even have a long stretch of it all to yourselves.

With a one-mile stretch of silver shimmery sand and water an unbelievable blue on a bright sunny day, Luquillo Beach is the perfect place for a romantic arm-in-arm stroll or for cavorting in the water. It’s also a great place to just hang out and catch some rays. Get a cocktail in a pineapple or a coconut to share, and stop by at the famous Luquillo Kiosks for some fun street food!

The Hamptons

The Hamptons can become your next romantic getaway from New York City as it is only a 2-hour drive. The Hamptons are comprised of several villages including East Hampton, South Hampton, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, and Montauk. 

If you want to spend some romantic time on the beach and have it all to yourself, the Hamptons are the right place. There are no sunbeds, no umbrellas, and no restaurants which creates an impression of endless coastline. 

Tiana Beach is pleasant and usually not too crowded; Atlantic Beach in Amagansett is also one of the most popular beaches in these parts. There is also Ditch Plains Beach in the easternmost part of the island, which is a famous surfing spot and will be a great place for a sporty couple.

On the streets here you will not find advertising banners, and even chain cafes and shops will be arranged in old houses. 

There are many restaurants for every taste and budget. You can dine in a roadside cafe, where you will be offered incomparable fresh fish and margarita. Or you can book a table in a posh restaurant where there is always a chance to meet a celebrity.

For me, the Hamptons are like American Cote d’Azur – luxurious, yet relaxing and romantic.

Provincetown, Massachusetts

Those seeking a romantic beach getaway in the USA need not look further than Province Town.

The city has award-winning beaches. The first is Herring Cove Beach. This salt-sprayed coastline’s situated on Cape Cod Bay a great spot of swimming, relaxing, and picnicking. Because it’s in the bay the waters are warmer and calmer. It’s also one of the top sunset spots in Provincetown.

On the other side of the bay, facing the Atlantic is Race point beach. Race Points filled with sandy dunes, aquatic wildlife, and a variety of birds. Race Point embodies a raw beauty. In fact, Travel Channel named it as number 6 on the list America’s most beautiful beaches

Besides beaches, there are many other reasons to visit Provincetown. The city itself is beautiful, holding a quaint seaside charm. It’s like back in time.  Provincetown (Or P-Town as it is often called) has a buzzing nightlife. And vibrant festivals. You’ll never be bored in P-Town.

Provincetown also plays an important role in American history. Here, in 1620 the Mayflower landed. Today the town has a prolific art scene, picturesque viewpoints, and various wildlife.

Hands down, Province town is one of the best places to visit in the United States . And a perfect spot for a romantic getaway.

Schoolhouse Beach, Wisconsin

Malibu, California

I knew about how beautiful Malibu is while driving the scenic Pacific Coast Highway (known as PCH). My wife and I were exploring California on a road trip with an RV when we decided to stop and enjoy one of the most romantic beaches in Malibu: El Matador State Beach.

We managed to find a cool spot for our RV on its parking ground (it was low season) and had the right to a spectacular sunset! The road edge is relatively high compared to the beach and that made the view even better and more romantic.

El Matador State Beach is also famous for its rock formation. After walking down the stairs, you can also explore some caves made by mother nature over so many years. If it’s warm enough, make sure you offer yourself a fresh swim!

The beach is not as famous as other ones in Malibu. That is why it’s a great destination for couples to have some privacy and enjoy the place away from the crowds.

Try taking a hike up to Arthur's Seat for sweeping views, check out Edinburgh's Old Town for quaint architecture and fun museums (such as the Writers' Museum), and wander down the Royal Mile to take in street performers. Be sure to stop at a whiskey distillery for a sip or two — try Highland Park or Old Pulteney — and consider staying at Gleneagles Hotel, which sits on a 850-acre estate and has its own train station.

British Virgin Islands

Have a relaxing, sunny beach vacation in the beautiful British Virgin Islands. Idyllwild, California

Try hiking the Ernie Maxwell trail for beautiful views, and if you are in town on a Saturday, head to the town square to meet the mayor (he's a golden retriever named Max). Explore the wide-open plains and enjoy the breathtaking night skies in Montana. Door County, Wisconsin

Check out Blacksmith Inn on the Shore, a bed and breakfast where all guest rooms have a fireplace, in-room whirlpool, and private balcony with views of Bailey's Harbor. The Oregon Coast

In order to get there, travelers must take a flight to Barbados (or St. Lucia), and then take an inter-island hopper flight from there. Santorini, Greece
