It's time to tee it up in Charleston

Charleston, South Carolina -- voted America's #1 Small City, nine years and counting. Where world-class golf courses are situated on breathtaking coastal terrains, ranging from true links style to tight wooded Lowcountry layouts.

Whether you're looking to immerse yourself in a rich coastal culture, hop on a historic tour, splash in the waves or feast on Southern flavors - and as you saw in person or on TV in May at the PGA Championship - you will definitely find what you're looking for on your visit to Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

To help you plan, we wanted to provide you with a few schedules to consider...

  • Before a round at Kiawah Island visit the Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island on your way to walk the Ravenel Bridge to catch a glimpse of the Charleston sunset.
  • Start your day with a sunrise stroll down The Battery and stop for a flavorful, Southern brunch. After a midday stop for a round of golf, head downtown for a late dinner on King Street and rooftop drinks.
  • Wake up to the surf of Folly Beach. Grab lunch in this local, seaside town before a final few holes on The Ocean Course. Stop by Bohicket Marina for a bite to eat on the water while enjoying a Charleston sunset.
  • As you head out of town, wander the cobblestone streets of Charleston in search of your dream historic home, taking in the sights of Rainbow Row and King Street.

PGA Tour adds Myrtle Beach Classic to 2024 calendar as part of significant schedule changes

A second pga tour event is coming to south carolina, though exact dates aren't yet known.

south carolina pga tour events

The PGA Tour has added an event to its 2024 schedule, bringing a second event to the state of South Carolina in the form of The Myrtle Beach Classic. Because the 2024 schedule (which starts in January this season) is still being put together, exact dates haven't been selected. The Tour did announce, however, that this tournament will be run the same week as one of the eight designated events throughout between January and September, though it is not yet known which designated event that will be.

Regardless, the deal with the Myrtle Beach Classic is a four-year commitment. This tournament -- and a second stop in South Carolina -- is around to stay for a while.

"We are thrilled to announce the debut of the Myrtle Beach Classic, an exciting new playing opportunity for our members in one of our country's most recognized and visited destinations," said PGA Tour President Tyler Dennis in a statement. "With its incredible passion for golf, the Myrtle Beach community is a natural fit to bring this tournament to life. We look forward to partnering with Visit Myrtle Beach for a first-class tournament at a championship venue in Dunes Golf and Beach Club."

The Dunes Golf and Beach Club will be the host course for this tournament and its $3.9 million purse, which is good money but a far cry from the presumed $20 million (or more) the designated event will pay out.

Additionally, the 2024 PGA Tour schedule is undergoing significant changes. With the WGC-Dell Match Play going away, the Houston Open moving from its fall spot and so many new rhythms for the Tour to find, it's going to be the most interesting schedule release in recent memory.

Jordan Spieth said at the Masters that the 2023 gap year -- after the introduction of designated events but before getting rid of the wraparound schedule -- has been too condensed and too intense.

"I would attest some of my decision-making [at the Masters] just to a level of focus that I wish I had a little bit more of," Spieth said. "If I'm trying to pinpoint it, it seems like I don't remember the last time I tried to peak on my eighth out of 10 weeks in a row. I don't remember ever having that.

"This is a year that's a bridge year for us on the PGA Tour," he continued. "So I want to keep playing the elevated events as well as the other events that I really love to play. So I knew that was going to happen this year, but it should be decided for me in the future, which would be a good thing."

The Dunes Golf and Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is once again hosting a men’s professional golf event.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is the newest event on the PGA Tour’s schedule. It’s the third of five opposite field events on the 2024 schedule. Also going on the same weekend will be the limited-field Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Dunes Club previously hosted the PGA Tour Champions season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship from 1994 to 1999. It was also the host venue for PGA Tour Q-School Finals in 1973, when Ben Crenshaw took medalist honors.

PGA Tour returning to South Carolina's Grand Strand in 2024

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The PGA Tour is returning to the Grand Strand.

The tour announced Wednesday a four-year agreement to hold a full-field event with a purse of $3.9 million starting in 2024 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

The event, called the Myrtle Beach Classic, will be held the same week as one of the tour's designated events that feature increased prize money. The dates will be announced when the tour releases next season's schedule.

"With its incredible passion for golf, the Myrtle Beach community is a natural fit to bring this tournament to life," PGA Tour president Tyler Dennis said in a statement.

The tournament will give the Palmetto State multiple tour events for the third time in four seasons to go along with the annual RBC Heritage, played last month as an elevated event, with $3.6 million given to winner Matthew Fitzpatrick.

The PGA Championship was played on Kiawah Island and a tour event was held at Congaree Country Club in Ridgeland, South Carolina, near Hilton Head Island, in 2021. Congaree hosted the CJ Cup in October 2022.

The Dunes Club has hosted several pro golf events. The season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on PGA Tour Champions was played there from 1994 to 1999. The venue also held the PGA Tour Q-school finals in 1973.

South Carolina House of Representatives Passes Resolution Recognizing May 9, 2024 “PGA HOPE Day” As Part of PGA TOUR Myrtle Beach Classic

Project golf initiates national recognition for military program.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Project Golf takes the lead on requesting May 9, 2024, the first day of PGA TOUR Myrtle Beach Classic Player competition, be recognized as PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) Day by the State of South Carolina. On March 27, 2024 the House of Representatives of South Carolina passed the resolution led by Rep Heather Crawford. The resolution was passed based on the positive impact that the PGA HOPE program has on improving the quality of life for our Active Military, Reserves, and Veterans in South Carolina. The dedication and celebration of this resolution will take place as part of the PGA TOUR Myrtle Beach Classic on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at the Marriott Myrtle Beach Resort & Spa at Grande Dunes at 7:30AM and presented by South Carolina House of Representatives Rep Cam Crawford.

PGA HOPE is a national PGA of America Program and part of their charitable PGA REACH Foundation with 500+ programs nationwide. Each year the program impacts over 17,000 Veterans taught by over 3,000 PGA Professionals. The PGA Carolinas Section has 11 programs in South Carolina that positively impact 600+ Veterans each year. Nationally there are 14,000 Veterans on the waitlist for the program and 140 in South Carolina and 50 in Myrtle Beach. The Myrtle Beach Chapter is one of the largest and fastest growing nationally.

Project Golf is a 501(c)3 charity of PGA Professionals providing specialized golf instruction free of charge as a therapeutic means of improving the quality of life for our disabled Veterans. With its headquarters at the Barefoot Golf Resort, each year they positively impact 150+ disabled Veterans as part of PGA HOPE.
