If you enjoy using this tool, please consider supporting!

1. what is this.

This is the third version of Stardew Valley interactive farm planner which allows you to pre-plan the farm you'd like to build in the game without wasting any of your resources, or while being at work...

2. How do I leave feedback / report bugs / ask for new features?

There should be a feedback widget available on the right side of the screen that you can use. I'm also accepting feedback in GitHub or directly via e-mail

3. Saving doesn't appear to do anything?

When you press save, your farm layout is saved and page will be reloaded to a new URL which will always point to that exact layout. You can then use the url to link to your farm (or bookmark it). Pressing save again, will generate another unique URL and so on.

4. Planner is super laggy / with unusable performance on my #pcmasterrace rig, are you mining bitcoin?

Sadly no... Some users have reported issues with performance and I'm still looking into solving this. You can help by saving Chrome profiling and sending it to me via email

5. My old plan seems to be broken

I tried my best to keep backwards compatibility with the v2, but sadly I can't guarantee it. I'd advise starting from zero.

6. There are ads on the page which are getting in the way of planning!

I'm sorry, ad provider has been instructed very clearly that nothing should block the planner. All floating ads should be closable, if not report them (there should be a way to do so on the ad)

Screen Rant

Best farm layouts for all farm types in stardew valley.

Each farm type in Stardew Valley has a unique layout. It's important to place your crops, animals, and equipment in the best spots on each farm.

There are eight different farm types in Stardew Valley . When you start a new game, you pick one of these eight types. Each one focuses on certain skills or play styles over others. Each one requires maximizing the amount of crop-land available. By catering to your farm's focus, you can dominate the economy of Pelican Town and use every available tile.

In a well-balanced farm, you'll have lots of land for crops, a pasture for your livestock, and various buildings to support your processing needs. The best farm layouts place each of these elements in their most productive areas. The layout takes into account the ease of managing that area, what the farm is best suited for, and the various goals their player wants to fulfill with their new farm.

10 Essential Tips & Tricks For Returning Stardew Valley Players

8 standard farm best layout, the go-to farm type.

The Standard Farm is the basic farm in Stardew Valley , designed for players of all sorts. Nearly every strip of land is open for crops, making them your go-to source of income. With the Standard Farm, you want to spread your crops out far and wide , allowing your Sprinklers to care for them as you go about and collect them.

Place Shipping Bins near each large chunk of crop land so you can quickly sell your products rather than truck back to the House.

Because the whole area is open, there is little you can do wrong with your layout. If you want to start raising livestock in a grassy field, build your Barns and Coops in the southern portion of the farm where the grass is thicker. Otherwise, so long as you grow lots of crops and build your Greenhouse, this farm is the best for those who just want to have fun with their designs .

7 Riverland Farm Best Layout

Plant crops on the islands.

The Riverland Farm is perfect for farmers who want to focus on fishing while providing neatly organized patches of tillable land via the islands. Fill your shorelines with Crab Pots to collect freshwater resources like Crayfish and Snails for good early income. Meanwhile, build your Barn and Coop on the land between the Greenhouse and the Farmhouse . This is the biggest patch of land for livestock and includes a large patch of grass that is useless for crops. Your crops should take up the land right outside your House and some of the smaller islands .

The large island in the middle of the farm is perfect for placing Sheds, Preserves Jars, Kegs, and other equipment . That way, everything is localized into one neat area. You can quickly harvest your crops from the islands and use them on the large island. You should also keep a second Shipping Crate on that island to send off your Artisan Goods and island crops.

6 Forest Farm Best Layout

Build barns and coops by the stumps.

The Forest Farm is designed for easy Wood collection and foraging. While the area may seem cramped, the little grottos on the west side of the farm are perfect for grazing livestock. Build a Barn or Coop above the Large Stumps , fence in the area, and let your animals wander about. Just keep an eye out for any special Weeds that may spawn inside.

Keep the large patch of grass between your House and the Greenhouse full of trees. The trees will naturally populate the area if you let them drop seeds, providing a steady and reliable source of Wood.

If you want to invest more in livestock, you can build more animal housing on the tillable land in the southwest corner . That land is also good for extra buildings like Sheds and Mills.

Focus your crops in the two northern corners. The land in front of your House should have your most important crops , like those needed to complete the Community Center in Stardew Valley . The land outside the Greenhouse, meanwhile, can grow some of your longer-term crops and flowers to improve the quality of Honey provided in Bee Houses. Lastly, the southeast corner is perfect for irrigated crops such as Rice Shoots , building A Fish Pond, and adding whatever you're missing on your farm.

5 Hill-top Farm Best Layout

Make the most of limited space.

The Hill-top Farm helps you collect Ore and Geode nodes without diving into the depths of the Mines or unlocking the Quarry. The upper area, including your House, Greenhouse, and Cave, is better for Mills and other buildings than anything else due to the awkward shape of the tilling area.

The land around the quarry and the small hill south of the House are the best spots for growing crops on this farm . However, your crops pale in importance to your quarry, where you'll get the Ore and Geodes you need to run an equipment-oriented farm. The one problem with the quarry is that a Boulder, Large Stump, or Large Log may block the entrance. If that's the case, upgrade or Pickaxe or Axe as soon as possible .

The land below the House is the only area of the farm with enough room to support a Barn and Coop . Simply dedicate the area to your livestock and place your buildings wisely.

4 Wilderness Farm Best Layout

Open space and monsters.

The Wilderness Farm has a similar build to the Standard and Forest Farms. The main difference is the looping shape, large pond, and tendency to spawn enemies at night. The enclosed nature of the farm's western side makes it perfect for Fish Ponds, Sheds, Mills, or Stables . Don't forget to take advantage of the nearby bodies of water , either, as they offer quick access to lake fish usually restricted to the Mountains.

Whether you want to be a Rancher or Tiller in Stardew Valley , the Wilderness Farm has lots of room for both. The southern portion of the farm allows you to build a giant enclosure with Coops and Barns . You'll have more than enough room for all your animals to roam and enough space for more than a couple buildings. Meanwhile, the northern side of the farm gives you plenty to work with if you want to grow the best produce on the land.

3 Four Corners Farm Best Layout

Naturally divided workloads.

Four Corners Farm is a multi-player farm with corners representing the Standard, Forest, Hill-top, and Riverside Farms. It's designed for multiple players who can each command one corner of the farm, depending on their interests. This farm is perfect for dividing your tasks. By playing to your corner's interests, you and your friends can run a highly productive farm.

The top right corner is your Standard Farm, and as such should be full of crops . You can refill your Watering Can in the tiny pond by the cliffs and succinctly organize your fields. Give this land to the farmer who is most attentive to their crops. Meanwhile, in the top left corner, you have your Forest Farm for collecting Wild Seeds and raising livestock. Line the upper cliff with Barns and Coops and let your animals roam among the trees and weeds . This area is good for new players to manage since they just have to pet animals and collect their resources.

If you don't want to give up the entire northwest corner to livestock, consider making a small patch of cropland and growing your Wild Seeds there. For more cropland, plant some seeds outside the Greenhouse in the center of the farm.

The bottom left corner is the Riverland Farm for any player who loves fishing . Place some Crab Pots in the pond and build a few Fish Ponds to take advantage of your catches. Use the pond's edge to plant Rice Shoots for easy Unmilled Rice production. Because this area is focused on fishing, it's a good pick for a farmer who wants to try multiple chores around the farm. They can build smaller variations of the other quadrants in their extra space.

Finally, in the bottom right, we have the Hill-top Farm with a tiny quarry along the lower cliffs . This quadrant should go to the farmer that loves visiting the Mines and forging Ore the most. Use the land around the quarry for extra buildings and storage for all your mining goodies.

2 Beach Farm Best Layout

Fewer crops, bigger challenge.

The Beach Farm is designed for experienced players who don't want to focus on crops, but rather challenge themselves with a focus on the other four skills in Stardew Valley. While you can grow crops in the sand, you can't use Sprinklers, making it a waste of time. Instead, plant all of your crops on the small rectangle of regular land and build your Greenhouse for extra crops.

The cove between the dock and the path to Cindersap Forest is perfect for collecting saltwater Crab Pot resources . You can build rows of equipment marked by Sheds and the occasional Mill, Stable, or other buildings. The best spots to raise livestock are either above or below your plot of crops , as both areas are well-shaped for enclosures.

While the lack of crops may be a struggle, it can also be a blessing for entrepreneurial Stardew Valley players who want to place rows of Bee Houses or Kegs along their lovely little beach.

1 Meadowlands Farm Best Layout

A new farm for lots of livestock.

The Meadowlands Farm in Stardew Valley is the newest farm type of the bunch with a unique focus on livestock over crops. It's the only farm to grow blue grass and has less tillable land than most other farm types. Since you start with a Coop next to your House, take advantage of that pre-built fence and expand from it. Connect it to any future Barns or Coops you build , stretching out towards the blue grass patches in the southern half of the farm.

Place your Sheds and equipment and fancy decor along the strip of grass cutting your farm in half . Since you can't plant crops on that grass, and it doesn't start with any blue grass, it's better to use it for non-Farming activities, like Artisan Good production. Focus your crops on the tillable land outside your house, and you should have enough land for any crops you need until the Greenhouse is built.

Since your farm will focus more on animal products than crop products, consider building rows of Mayonnaise Machines, Bee Houses, and Cheese Makers near your livestock as opposed to more crops. You'll be able to take full advantage of your resources this way. Even so, at the end of the day, it is up to you how to lay out your farm in Stardew Valley , and up to you what you want to focus on.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley: Forest Farm Guide

Want to call the Forest Farm your home? Here's everything you need to know about it!

Quick Links

Tillable and buildable space, hardwood stumps.

Before you start a new save file in Stardew Valley , there are eight farm types, or maps, to choose from. While each of them boasts their strengths, none of them do the Foraging skill justice like the Forest Farm does. However, that's not the only reason you should consider picking this layout.

Stardew Valley: 9 Tips To Level Up Your Foraging Skill Fast

With early access to Hardwood, lots of room to build, and an absolutely beautiful landscape, this map is a favorite for Speedrunners. Whether you're doing some research into which farm type is right for you, or looking to learn more now that you've chosen it, here is everything to know about the Forest Farm.

Having reduced space for farming means there are less tillable tiles for you to use . These are tiles of space that can be hoed and used to grow crops .

The Forest Farm only has 1,413 tillable tiles . And, although that does mean you can technically grow 1,413 crops, you will have to give some of that space up to sprinklers .

The Forest Farm has the least number of tillable tiles in the game.

However, what it lacks in tillable tiles, it makes up with buildable tiles . That is, tiles that you can place farm buildings on. For example:

  • Slime Hutches

The Greenhouse and Farmhouse are also technically farm buildings , but you start with both of these buildings and can't build another of either .

The total number of buildable tiles is 1,490 . And that amount is just un-tillable land . This means you can have more buildings set up without compromising any farming space . Not to mention, you can always build on land that could otherwise be used for crops .

This lends itself to many play styles. And, although you would have the least amount of space for farming, you can still easily have over 1,000 fruits or vegetables of your choice.

Plus, as the game progresses, you'll gain access to the Greenhouse as well as Ginger Island , which grants you two additional areas where you can grow crops .

So, what may sound like a con on the surface doesn't keep you from growing and selling a lot of crops throughout your save file, no matter how many in-game years you plan to play for.

The skill that this farm helps you with the most is Foraging. This skill is difficult to master because it is so dependent on spawn chances , but the Forest Farm increases your chances of finding forgeable items right on your farm.

These are the following items you can find without leaving your home:

It doesn't increase your chances of finding any Winter foragables, but even in the Winter season, you can still get more Foraging EXP because of the Forest Farms design.

Although it doesn't increase foragable spawns in the Winter, you can still find Winter Roots and Snow Yams in any dig spots on your farm.

Berry Bushes

In addition to different foragables spawning on your farm, there are also more bushes, including more berry bushes .

During Spring 15 through 18 , these will spawn salmonberries . Depending on your Foragaing level, when these berries start growing, you can harvest between one and three of them .

They won't produce anything during Summer. But between Fall 8 and 11 these bushes will instead grow blackberries you can harvest.

You will get one EXP for each berry you harvest. So, having more berry bushes on your farm increases the total number of berries and experience you can gain.

Berry bushes also spawn all over Stardew Valley. You can find them in the Cindersap Forest , all along the path leading to The Mountains , and even around the town itself . The only place you don't find them is on The Beach.

Stardew Valley: Complete Mushroom Guide

Each farm has Hardwood stumps you can chop up, but they never grow back. On the Forest Farm, however, there are eight that grow back every day.

The only other place Hardwood stumps behave like this are in the Secret Woods , where six stumps will grow back after you chop them apart.

That increases the number of Hardwood you can get each day from 12 to 28 pieces .

This also means a steep increase in Foraging EXP you can get every day from 150 to 550 .

These will keep growing back unless you cover them . A lot of people build farms and coops in the areas with the Hardwood stumps. If one of these buildings covers a stump, then it will be unable to grow back .

If you don’t want to cover up stumps, leave them in place any time you go and talk to Robin. You’ll know exactly where you can place these buildings without losing the stumps .

Although this doesn't impact your Foraging level, the Forest Farm allows you to catch a special fish that can only be found in the Secret Woods. And that is the Woodskip .

This is a small chance, only five percent , but that's before your Daily Luck is factored in . The higher your Luck, the higher the chance you can catch the Woodskip. The rest of the time you're fishing, you can expect to either hook pond and river fish or, unfortunately, trash .

But, the Woodskip is needed for one of the Fishing Bundles you can be asked to complete by the Junimos in order to fix up The Community Center .

Being able to catch the Woodskip on your farm can help if you're struggling to get into the Secret Woods .

stardew valley farm tour

  • Farm Type: Standard
  • Best for: A wide variety of resources

Youtuber Kyper shows off a gorgeous, well-optimized Standard farm that he’s been building for ten in-game years.

He proudly says that he has no mods for the game and that this run is 100% completed.

Kyper’s farm features three Deluxe Barns, three Deluxe Coops, and three storage silos.

He has lots of pigs, goats, chickens, and dinosaurs, seeming to focus on these as his main resource producers.

In terms of crops, Kyper has several large crop plots around the farm, fenced in and set up with Iridium sprinklers at regular intervals and Junimo huts to automate resource collection.

His greenhouse is optimized (in a very similar way to our recommended layout) with all kinds of fruit-bearing trees and Rare Fruits.

Additionally, he’s constructed a slime hutch and several large sheds, all filled with kegs for wine production, forges, displays, and ample material storage.

2. Sapphic Farmer’s Full-Map Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: Multi-player, aesthetics, and usage of the entire Stardew map

Sapphic Farmer on YouTube has a beautiful Standard farm that rocks a rustic, open aesthetic.

Her farm is laid out in wooden paths with several guest farmhouses so that her friends can join her whenever they like.

She has several sheds uniquely designed to match what they produce, including wine, tea, refined mining products, artisan goods, and more.

Her crops are separated into smaller lots dotted with fish ponds, bee hives, and Junimo huts.

Her Deluxe Barn and Coop rest in a fenced-in area full of pigs, goats, cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, and even ostriches.

She also has a fully finished farm on Ginger Island, complete with island crops and a beautifully-decorated beach house.

Uniquely, she has filled the quarry with production materials – namely kegs to produce wine and ale.

3. SharkyGames’s Efficient and Aesthetic Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: Planners and profit focus

SharkyGames was asked by his community to give tips about how to build an efficient and beautiful farm.

He recommends using the Stardew Valley planner website to pre-build your farm so that you can see the best farm layouts for you.

In this video, he creates a farm that has two Deluxe Barns (which he fills with pigs to produce truffle oil), three sheds, a Delux Coop, and several crop plots, all connected by stone paths.

He dedicates a large section of the farm to Ancient Fruit production as the main source of income.

He’s also dedicated areas to smithing, beehives, a tree farm, and battery production.

He recommends separating out areas for earnings and resource production, especially creating a tree farm for wood sources and tapping.

He also says that you should keep as much grass as possible for animal feeding.

4. StardewValleyTanner’s Year 20 Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: Long-haul players

Reddit user StardewValleyTanner has the top upvoted farm layout of all time on the Farms of Stardew Valley subreddit.

This beautiful setup includes rings of trees surrounding a central mushroom grove, a tapping farm, a heart-shaped trough area in the animal yard, and many storage sheds containing a wide variety of resources.

It took Tanner quite a long time to build up this setup – 20 in-game years!

Many fellow Redditers applaud them for their use of obelisks in interesting places and the symmetry of the central circle.

5. Hawkster78’s Retirement Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: multiplayer, aesthetics

Reddit user Hawkster78’s farm is a beautiful patchwork of dedicated areas connected by wooden walkways.

The centerpiece is the Golden Clock, framed by two heart-shaped paddocks of trees surrounding a bee farm above and the small lake below.

There are functional areas for farming in the bottom right and animal raising, but there is also a large chess board and a decorative walk to Grandpa’s shrine.

They also have cabins built in the bottom left for “city slickers from Zuzu City” – an imaginative reason for adding them in-game!

6. Scy_lla’s Junimo Sanctuary

stardew valley farm tour

  • Farm Type: Beach
  • Best for: Junimo lovers

This adorable farm takes full advantage of the 1.5 Update’s Beach farm map to create a safe haven for our little forest friends, the Junimos!

Scy_lla uses some minor modding to create a peaceful forest retreat full of fruit trees and Junimo huts connected with winding wooden paths.

Lining the edges are lovely cherry blossom trees.

The comments under their post praise the beauty of the farm and claim that “this must be where the fairies come from!” We couldn’t agree more.

7. plantmagicdust’s Micro Farm

A Stardew Valley frm layout consisting of the top-right corner of a Four-Corner's farm decked out with wooden walkways and crops.

  • Farm Type: Four Corners
  • Best for: micromanagers, those overwhelmed by large farms

Reddit user plantmagicdust designed a comfortable micro-farm using only one of the titular Four Corners.

Without mods, they’ve created two fair-sized crop plots, an orchard for their fruit trees, bee farms, and a section for kegs.

They’ve also created a spacious area for their farm animals and keep a fish pond nearby.

The comments applaud this user for their creative use of space and express their excitement for the possibility of a mini-farm map to be introduced sometime in the future.

8. RequestMe69’s Summer Dream Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Farm Type: Hilltop
  • Best for: nighttime foragers, monster hunters

This user created a “mystical” farm full of high-efficiency areas, including a wheat farm, organized crop plots, four siloes, and three sheds filled with artisan machines and other tools.

Their farm is dotted with streetlamps and stone paths, weaving their way through grass and trees of all kinds for a slightly ethereal effect.

They recommend a trick for cheap lighting:

The mines has the “torches” often times lighting up the path. These can be removed with your pickaxe & other tools (for free/no materials) and then hidden behind other structures for a soft-lighting look 💕👍🏻 – Reddit user RequestMe69.

9. Fadith’s Crop-Friendly Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: crop growth and fishing resources

Fadith’s farm is practical and well-organized, with a mild twist.

They take full advantage of the Four Corners map to create dedicated quadrants for ranching, crops, beekeeping, and fishing.

What’s interesting about their map is the sheer number of fish ponds – there are even some rarer fish on display in red, purple, and green ponds!

Additionally, they have sections for smithing and gem work, as well as a display for all of the Rarecrows.

10. HowToStopTime_’s IRL-Inspired Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: those who want a more “realistic” experience

This farm layout, according to the creator, was inspired by the organization of real-life gardens into crop rows with paths between them.

It includes small areas for racing among a massive, sprawling layout of crops of all kinds, intermixed with trees for all seasons.

There is also a beekeeping section, fish pond, and sheds for other resources.

11. LifeByLacy’s Optimized Year-5 Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Farm type: Standard
  • Best for: efficiency farmers

Lacey’s farm is beautiful and well-organized.

It features large plots designed to prompt Giant Crop spawning and sections for preserving, beekeeping, smelting, and other resources.

She also keeps ample crab pots on the pond at the bottom and a separate area for grass to keep the animals fed.

Her video offers tips and advice to players for keeping farms well organized and running smoothly.

For instance, she recommends planting trees as close as possible to create tapping and forestry farms that take up as little room as possible.

12. Lichatton’s 1,000-hour farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: dedicated players and completionists

Those who play single files on Stardew Valley for quite a long time will appreciate the effort that Lichitton has put into her massive, completely unmodded farm.

Using the advantages of multiplayer multi-item collection and more than 1,000 hours of playtime often while streaming, she has set up a fully-optimized and well-decorated farm.

It features:

  • A large fish pond area with different fish
  • Many, many animals in multiple coops and barns
  • Unique multiplayer cabins featuring full aquariums and a menagerie of hat displays
  • A massive crop field surrounded by Junimo huts.

13. dangerous-stain-builds’s Lazy Rancher Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: farmers who do not want to farm

This Tumblr user created a farm set up specifically for those Stardew players who don’t want to spend much time on their farm in the late game.

It features a whopping eight barns and five coops, as well as four silos and several self-watering crop plots.

Interestingly, they don’t take advantage of Junimo huts for auto collection – perhaps they mean to add those in the future.

They also have a beautiful fruit tree orchard and a shed for other resource production.

14. YoshiActual’s Fish Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: serious fishermen

Reddit user YoshiActual’s farm is unique, to say the least. It features more than 60 fish ponds!

While that doesn’t leave room for anything else, it does mean that there are enough ponds for every type of fish in the game, “and then some!”

Apparently, the blank space on the map is an incorrectly-rendered storage shed, which houses, you guessed it, even more fishmongering equipment.

15. Gamoonian’s Ginger Island Bee Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Farm Type: Ginger Island Farmland
  • Best for: late game players, bee lovers

Though not as extensive as the base farm maps, the Ginger Island farmland clearly has some room to play.

This interesting setup takes advantage of the added farm space accessible once players unlock Ginger Island.

Reddit user Gamoonian has put the ample free space to use as both a massive crop field and an impressive apiary featuring five distinct sections of bee hives producing different kinds of honey.

16. Emil_2125’s Ginger Island Crop Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: late game players, crop optimization

Another beautiful use of the Ginger Island farmland, Reddit user emil_2125 has put together a fully-optimized crop farm, including four unique plots and crops growing along the riverbank.

The farm also includes ample fruit trees, a tapping orchard, and a battery-production station, which makes excellent use of the frequent rain and storms on the island.

They also have a Statue of Perfection producing Prismatic Shards, which is a stroke of genius.

17. Bloodless’s Simple Vineyard Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: wine makers and fruit tree harvesters

This Ginger Island farm, created by a Stardew Valley forums user going by the username Bloodless, focuses on fruit and wine production, which suits the island vibe quite well.

It features many small crop plots interspersed between fruit trees, with one long row of kegs at the bottom of the farmland, producing a huge amount of wine guaranteed to turn a tidy profit.

18. Flowrs’s Simple Fall Farm

stardew valley farm tour

  • Best for: a variety of resources

Steam user Flowrs created the most upvoted farm layout on the Steam Community tab for Stardew Valley.

This farm features a massive forest for wood collection, several small crop plots for different crops, an apiary with its own self-sufficient flower garden, and a deluxe barn and deluxe coop with two silos each and ample grass.

It also features a keg and preserve jar station as well as a crystallarium area and shed for additional resources.

This farm is perfect for a well-rounded, resource-rich layout that takes advantage of every inch of usable space without feeling crowded.

19. Heraizen’s Full Farm Tour

  • Best for: full-use optimizers

Steam user Heraizen was kind enough to share their entire farm, inside and out.

They’ve optimized their main farmland for crop growth and animal products, including a mill for flour production and an apiary.

Beyond that, their greenhouse is fully optimized with Ancient Fruit and fruit trees, and their basement is full of casks, kegs, and preserve jars.

They also have some aesthetically designed guest cabins and a beautiful, fully-upgraded farmhouse.

20. Sweaty’s Little Big Farm

  • Farm Type: Forest
  • Best for: space maximizers

Steam user sweaty put together a clean, well-organized Forest farm that has space for everything.

Their farm has a large central crop section with smaller plots for individual crop types, sections for a deluxe barn and deluxe coop with a silo and ample feeding grass, and an apiary featuring a Junimo hut.

This farm also features an inconspicuous section for obelisks beside the greenhouse and three fish ponds, as well as a slime hutch and several sheds for additional resources, all connected with clean brick roads.

There’s also a Golden Clock near the farmhouse, keeping the whole space clean and tidy.

Bonus: My Farm!

  • Best for: farmers who don’t know how to plan.

While it isn’t an exact replica of my layout, this is as close as a first-time Stardew Planner user could get.

This is my personal farm in Year 6. I’ve been running this particular game for several real-life years; it’s not particularly well optimized or aesthetically laid out, but to me, it feels like home.

I focused largely on animal rearing and crops for the first few years, then switched to artisan goods, and most recently added a slime hutch at last!

Stardew Valley: Best farms to start with

P icking the best Stardew Valley farm is a daunting task, especially if you’re new to the hit farm-sim game . Some of them are more helpful than others, and those others are best left by the wayside unless you want a very specific kind of experience. While you can rarely go wrong with the basic starter farm, once you're familiar with how the game works, it's a good idea to branch out a bit and find new challenges that encourage you to think differently about the game.

Our Stardew Valley best farms guide explains which starting location is right for most occasions and what you get out of the others. We’ve listed them from worst to best.

Stardew Valley: Best Farms

Wilderness farm.

I get the idea behind Wilderness Farm. It’s just not a very good one. You have a little over 2,000 tiles to till and some additional ones you can build one, and that’s about it as far as worthwhile features unless you really enjoy fighting. Monsters invade at night. You can ignore them entirely or do battle and walk away with monster parts or, sometimes, rare items. The chance of getting something like a diamond off a Wilderness Golem is very low, and since you can ignore the monsters at night, there’s not much actual challenge involved. Only pick this one if you’re curious to see how things play out.

Forest Farm

The Forest Farm outstays its welcome after the first year or so. Its big draw is the increased number of items you can forage each season, which is handy when you’re just getting started and can’t get quite as much as you want from Cindersap Forest every day. That perk becomes less useful as you unlock options to grow your own mushrooms and flowers, though, which just leaves you with a lot of untillable land on your farm and a bunch of items you don’t need.

Hill-Top Farm

Hill-Top Farm finds itself beset with a similar problem. You trade tillable land for a section of the farm that spawns mining nodes, and what you get depends on your mining level. That sounds convenient, and it is – except by the time your mining level is high enough that the farm spawns valuable ore, you probably farmed enough ore from the actual mines while raising your farm level. Still, it’s a handy way to get a bit extra without having to spend time down the shafts.

There’s not much room for actual crops, though.

Four-Corners Farm

Four-Corners is decent if you’re playing Stardew Valley in multiplayer, though you’ll want to coordinate well with your fellow farmers. This map has just under 3,000 squares of tillable land, though each quadrant has a different theme. One is based on the forest map, for example, while another pushes you toward fishing like the River Farm. You never have enough room to expand every operation, though, so it’s a bit of a “jack of all trades, master of none” situation. Still, it’s a good way to shake up your game, if you want something a little out of the ordinary.

Riverland Farm

The Riverland farm is an excellent choice for intermediate players who want a different kind of playthrough. A river runs through this farm, unsurprisingly, which cuts the number of tillable and buildable tiles down to roughly 1,500. The lack of space means you have to plan your seasonal planting with more care and get creative with how you maximize your profits, and fishing becomes more important. You likely won’t pull treasures out of the water, but you do get access to town and forest fish from the start.

If you lose steam after Year 2 and the abundance of gold you usually start raking in from more spacious farms, this is the map for you.

The Beach Farm is deceptive and takes getting used to, but once you know how to work around it, its strengths make up for the annoyances. The beach farm has 2,700 tillable tiles, making it almost as spacious as the Standard Farm – but there’s a catch. Almost all the tillable tiles are sand tiles, and you can’t place sprinklers on sand. Manually watering your crops forces you to think hard about managing time and produce and get creative about what and where you plant.

You also get a bit of foraging, similar to what the Forest Farm offers, some ocean fishing, and – if you upgrade your home – a chance of finding supply crates with rare goods inside. The Beach Farm should absolutely not be your first farm. Stick to the Standard Farm for that. But it makes for an excellent time once you know what you’re doing.

Standard Farm

The standard farm lives up to its name. This one comes with no bells and whistles, but in exchange for the lack of frills, you get over 3,000 tiles of tillable land, and you can use almost all of it for crops after you clear out the trees and vegetation, minus a few tiles that ponds take up. There’s more than enough room to experiment with layouts and focus on crops and animals without having to skimp on either. You can do pretty much whatever you want, so there really aren’t any drawbacks to picking this one.

‘Stardew Valley’ update adds 40 new mines and fish frenzies

The 1.6 update is coming to consoles “as soon as possible”

'Stardew Valley' screenshot

ConcernedApe has released a new patch for Stardew Valley , bringing 40 new mines and a fishing update to the sim.

  • READ MORE: ‘Stardew Valley’ creator Eric Barone discusses his life in music, concert tour, and ‘Haunted Chocolatier’

Last month, Stardew Valley received an absolutely massive 1.6 update that included new festivals, a new mastery system and a new farm alongside fixes, “secrets” and easter eggs.

Shortly after that, creator Eric Barone confirmed the launch of a 1.6.4 patch that would feature “ a new fishing thing, and some new mining related stuff ”. Well, that patch has now gone live and it seems Barone was underselling it somewhat.

According to the patch notes , the 1.6.4 update includes various quality of life, gameplay and technical fixes as well as updates for multiplayer and a number of balance edits.

The 1.6.4 update is out for PC! This patch adds some new content, as well as many improvements, balance changes, and bug fixes. Patch notes can be found here: https://t.co/H1PZNit3ZD pic.twitter.com/Lku1SRsQkV — ConcernedApe (@ConcernedApe) April 18, 2024

It also brings a wave of new content, including 20 new “alternate” mine layouts that will start appearing once a player reaches the bottom of the mines as well as 20 new volcano mines. These will appear after the shortcut between caldera and the volcano entrance has been unlocked.

Stardew Valley has also introduced “a special cutscene” that’s viewable after a player has helped their new neighbours grow their family to the max while pouring vinegar on a tree will now stop moss from ever growing there.

Ahead of a fishing-based festival set to take place this summer in Stardew Valley , ConcernedApe has launched “fish frenzies” which will make catching certain fish easier while fish tanks can now hold eight additional non-fish items. Four new fairy styles have also been added to the game. Check out the full patch notes here .

As it stands, the 1.6 patch is only available for PC players. Earlier this month though, Barone gave an update on when it would be launching for mobile and console. “They are in progress and will be released as soon as possible. I have no specific release date, but I will give updates if there is anything significant to share. I really appreciate your patience and understanding,” he wrote on social media.

Over the past week, fans on social media have also been using Chappell Roan ’s new single ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ to soundtrack a queer romance in Stardew Valley .

In other news, Larian Studios has confirmed it is working on two new projects based on original IPs. “ What we’re working on now will be our best work ever ,” added CEO Swen Vincke.
