The Turtles were an influential rock band from the 1960s, and they are popular for famous hits like, "Happy Together". Their live sound was influenced by the trends of the 60s, such as psychedelia and hard rock, but the band always balances their experimentation with a pop edge, and that mix allowed The Turtles to become widely influential.
The Turtles can create intense jams and soulful, melodic verses in the same song, and the song will still rule hard. The vocalist, Howard Kaylan, is known for his incredible vocal range and lyrical prowess. The Turtles were an early example of the talent that Howard possesses. The popular song "She'd Rather Be With Me " was always one song from their concert that stood out to me. The vocals seemed to have so many different meanings, and the song was so fun, and surreal. Live, the song always seemed like a dream or a memory. It was distant and psychedelic, but the pop hooks wills till get stuck in your head and will stay there for as long as you allow them.
The Turtles trippy sound is extremely eccentric, though, and often times the brilliant whimsical world will become very overwhelming, and intense, but to me, that is intentional and one of the subtle touches that made The Turtles a creative band that utilized everything that they could to add to their song writing.

You never know what antics they will do. Last year Mark came out as Adelle. This year the theme was Beauty and the Beast.Always crazy. The Archies , new to the lineup took the audience down memory lane with graftics from the cartoon show and commercials from the 60s and 70s that featured the lead singer. The Boxtops' lead singer celebrating his 70th birthday. The Association hit it out of the ballpark as always. Chuck Negron had the best vocals. More interaction with the audience than past years. The returning Cowcills told family stories.
"Happy Together 2014" concert really delivered! Headliners Flo and Eddie were hysterical as always. Mitch Ryder's voice was just like always. Gary Lewis hit on all my teen-year heart-beating faves. Mark Farner was in incredible shape, animated and energetic with all the Grand Funk hits. And, Chuck Negron did just fine without the other two "Dogs" singing all the top Three Dog Night songs. I am looking forward to "Happy Together 2015"!!
I saw the turtles in San Francisco way back in 1986. Cannot remember the venue, as so many have closed, but it a little larger than a club, and sold out. I went because I knew their chart hits, but I was amazed at their entertainment value and range. My favorite hit was 'She'd rather be with me' and they did a fantastic job with it,all the harmonies perfect. They were value for money then for sure.

Happy Together Tour Resumes in 2022
The Turtles continue as the signature headliners, but with the voice of the Archies, Ron Dante , again joining Turtles founding member and singer Mark Volman. (Fellow Turtles founder, Howard Kaylan, hasn’t participated for several years.)
The rest of the 2022 lineup: Gary Puckett & the Union Gap , The Association , the Vogues, and The Cowsills . Together, they represent dozens of Top 10 radio hits. Watch them all perform in the opening night’s finale below.
Mark Lindsay – the longtime lead singer of Paul Revere & the Raiders – announced in 2021 that he would not be participating in 2021 or 2022, due to numerous ankle injuries. In addition, Chuck Negron (formerly of Three Dog Night) was expected to participate in 2022 but also bowed out due to concerns about a pre-existing lung condition in the era of Covid.
The new edition, began June 1 and continues through August. Many of the dates were originally scheduled all the way back to 2020.
The Turtles have sold over 40 million records worldwide. Their hits include: “Happy Together,” “She’d Rather Be With Me,” “Elenore,” “It Ain’t Me Babe” and “You Showed Me.”
Watch Volman and Dante perform “Happy Together” during the 2019 tour
Gary Puckett & the Union Gap enjoyed five Top 10 singles including their 1967 debut, “Woman Woman,” as well as “Young Girl” and “Lady Willpower.”
The Association returned to the lineup in 2021. One of the most popular singing groups to have come out of the ’60s, they are best known for their #1 hits “Windy,” “Cherish” and “Never My Love,” as well as the Top 10 singles “Along Comes Mary” and “Everything That Touches You.”
Watch them perform “Along Comes Mary” in 2019
The Vogues scored such Top 10 singles as “Turn Around, Look at Me,” “You’re the One” and “Five O’Clock World.”
The Cowsills have been part of the last several years of the tour. Bob, Paul and Susan Cowsill are a family singing group and the original inspiration for television’s The Partridge Family and are best known for the songs “The Rain, The Park and Other Things,” “Hair,” “Indian Lake” and “Love American Style.”
Watch the full lineup for the opening night medley finale on June 1

It is maddening that Chuck negron is not a part of Three Dig Night, It isn’t Three Dog Night if there is only 2 of them!
It’s now really only One Dog Night.
They can do a tour with the One Top and the Temptation.
From what I read Chuck is willing to sing with Danny Hutton but there is no interest with Danny. Hopefully, Danny and Chuck can honor Corey Wells and do a tour one summer.
Did anybody notice Gary Puckett replaced Chuck on this year billing for at least the first 3 shows of 2021? Does anybody know why?
Chuck is taking a break this year but plans to be back for 2022. He announced it on a recent podcast interview with The Cowsills.
Cory died some years ago.
Of course, the year the tour comes to my town, Erie, PA, Mark Lindsay won’t be on the bill! Not fair! Oh, well, hope you get to feeling better, Mark. Maybe I’ll get to see you in a future gig! Still love ya’, dude!
I’ve loved this show for many years, and have gone to see a whole bunch of them, going way back now. Slowly but surely age and infirmity is taking its toll on the performers of this generation, to the point where they often have to put the show together with spit and wire, and just grab whoever is able to at least walk on stage. The biggest loss has been Howard Kaylan, that incredible voice of the Turtles, who hasn’t toured with the show for several years now. This year’s lineup has a few performers who can still thrill you — The Cowsills are marvelous, The Association still has their sound, and I’m sure Ron Dante does a credible job of filling in for Howard with the Turtles, as well as his own songs, but when you hear “Eleanor” you know it’s not THAT voice. The Classics IV, also don’t have THAT voice, which has long ago passed. The Vogues? Ehh, who knows? But I saw Gary Puckett years ago with this show, and he could no longer sing then. Don’t know when this video of him is from, but according to what I saw, he is no longer THAT guy. Chuck Negron really could pretty much pull off his songs, so that is a loss. And while best wishes go out to Happy Together Tour perennial stalwart Mark Lindsay, the truth is his vocals have long had no discernable character whatsoever. So, in truth, no big loss there, except if you’re in love with him, as many still are.
Despite these problems, I still love this show, and have been grateful to the Turtles for bringing it back year after year. I’ve seen many great performances, but in later years, many not so great performances, and even some folks that just shouldn’t even have been on a stage at that point (Wayne Fontana most recently comes to mind). The truth is, you have to wonder how much longer they will be able to find folks who are physically able to do these tours, and can still sort of pull off what they’re famous for. Which is why I’ve kicked myself many times for the shows I didn’t go to that are forever lost (Jack Bruce being one). And why I now constantly remind myself to get out there if it’s something that does mean something to me, because you never know when it’s all going to be over — for you, or for them.
Gary Puckett sang in the show 2 yrs ago in Scottsdale.. sounded good.
Gary Puckett sounded great in 2019 when I saw him at The Carolina theatre in Durham NC!!!!
Saw it is Scottsdale in 2019.. was much fun.. was 62 then so I was on young end of crowd. Great tunes brought back memories. I see they are not in AZ for 2022. Hoping they make it here.
My research shows that no member of the current Association plays woodwinds. When they sing “Windy”, does anyone play the flute or recorder, which Terry Kirkman used to play? Thanks
I think they use some sort of synthesizer for the flute part …just saw them in PA tonight
I saw the Happy Together tour last night in Quakertown, PA (7-29-21). The show was excellent! You should go & see it! It’s about 90 minutes of outstanding music!
Happy Together Tour in Louisville, KY on 8/24/2021 SNUBBED the Monarchs. Totally disrespected them by not mentioning that they opened up for them and it was their 60th anniversary.
Hi Storm, Glad to hear Gary Puckett could still do it when you saw him. He must have had a cold or something at the show we saw. I guess no one wants to draw attention to it if fans haven’t noticed, but for those who do (and it was difficult not to) saying something about your condition that evening would be better than leaving fans thinking that you don’t have much voice left at all anymore.
Gary Puckett sounded good in 2019 , going to the show in Scottsdale in July
FIVE dates in Massachusetts, but not ONE in Texas? Really, guys?
good article! i looked at the book, “shell shocked”, by howard, and noticed, once again,”with jeff tamarkin”… jeff, don’t you ever sleep? take a rest… ya got it coming…
Ha, sleep is so overrated. But thank you.
Saw them Thursday night August 25, 2022 in Des Moines. Gary Puckett is 80 years old next month and he still sounds great. All the rest of them are great too lots and lots of fun! I’ve seen them for five times with different people in the lineup and love it every time!

Live Review: Happy Together Tour – The Cowsills, The Vogues, The Buckinghams, The Association, Gary Puckett, Ron Dante, The Turtles – Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater, Florida – June 1, 2022
The Happy Togethe r tour, which was created by David Fishof in the mid-eighties, has become a tradition for many baby boomers who crave the music of the sixties. Every year the tour, which consists of The Turtles (Flo & Eddie) and numerous other 60s pop bands, rolls into cities across the U.S. Patrons often show up in tie-dye attire and hair-challenged men wear hippie wigs. Adding to the atmosphere, vendors sell vintage records, cassettes, scented candles, clothing, and pop art memorabilia.
The tour has become a Rock At Night tradition in the last decade. Thanks to COVID, the world hasn’t experienced the tour since 2019 (our last show experience was 2017). So the kick-off of the tour at Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater, had a special significance as baby boomers again met to break bread with their favorite sixties artists.
As I arrived to the theater on June 1 st , the lobby was buzzing with boomers. Having spent a lot of the last two years masked and indoors, it was nice seeing this many seniors out and about—smiling and full of life. A few crochet vests, boots, and of course, tie-dyed shirts were observed, but this year, people seemed to be wearing mostly street attire. Only a few wore face masks since the requirement has been lifted in our state.
The first band that appeared promptly at 7 p.m. was The Cowsills, which consisted of Bob, Paul, and Susan Cowsill. During the evening The Cowsills sang hits like “The Rain, the Park, And Other Things,” “Indian Lake,” “We Can Fly”, and “Hair/Let the Sunshine In” (from “Aquarius”). During the “Hair” song the videos on the screen behind the band included ads for Dippity Do, Glemby Girl Salons, and hair styles of the day.
Between songs the band quipped and said, “We changed it up. We’re telling jokes.” Susan Cowsill asked, “Why did the alligator wear a vest?” As the audience shook their heads, she responded, “Because he was an investigator.” After hearing a roar of “ah’s’ and laughter, I knew it would be a nostalgic evening of music and “Dixie Riddle Cup” jokes.
After a short 20-minute set, The Vogues performed crowd favorites like “Special Angel”, “You’re the One”, and “Five O’Clock World”, which was the theme song of the The Drew Carey Show . For the tour, The Vogues consist of Troy Elich, Royce Taylor, and Shawn Stevens. Elich conversed with crowd, saying “As we passed The Cowsills they said, ‘young crowd’.” The last song was a 1968 mega hit for the band, “Turn Around, Look At Me”, which was featured in a Volkswagen commercial in 2019.
The Buckinghams came out looking extremely youthful singing “Hey Baby (They’re Playing Our Song)”, which had everyone dancing in their seats. Original members Nick Fortuna on bass and Carl Giammarese on vocals noted they have performed together for 55 years “because of you allowed us to make our music.” They told stories about performing on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour , the Ed Sullivan Show , and backing The Monkees. They performed “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy” and a personal favorite was 1967 hit “Kind of a Drag.”
There was an approximately 20 minute intermission before The Association entered the stage. The harmonies were beautiful and sounded just like the records I remembered, with hits like “Cherish”, “Windy”, and “Never My Love”. The Association noted there was controversy when they released their song “And Then Along Comes Mary, which by today’s standards would be a non-issue. There were plenty of jokes about being “old” during the evening as the band thanked the crowd for “staying up late.”
Gary Puckett came on stage looking extremely fit as he belted out hits like “Lady Willpower, “Over You”, and “This Girl is a Woman Now”. He noted, “I can’t hit the high notes now” but his voice was actually powerful and spot on. Before introducing “Young Girl”, he thanked the crowd for “making it a humongous hit by putting out your 49 cents” and added “I am a neighbor and live here in Clearwater.” He said his personal favorite song is “Woman, Woman”—and one cannot argue with that.
Last up, The Turtles came on stage, with Flo (Mark Volman) wearing a vest comprised of Snoopy and Peanuts characters and saying, “We missed you. My paycheck went out the window and I haven’t seen it since you left.” Flo was hysterically funny as he played the old, absent-minded curmudgeon most of the evening. Unfortunately, Eddie (Howard Kaylan) was not present but Ron Dante, a master in his own right, filled his formidable shoes. The crowd was even treated to “Sugar, Sugar”.
Flo explained, “We had our first hit song when I was 17 years old and in a surf band called the Crossfires. We did a Bob Dylan song. We didn’t understand the lyrics at the time—and either did Bob. It’s a really confusing song and we were too young to appreciate it.” He noted, “We were younger then but older than that now.” He asked the audience to participate by singing “No, no” and jumped into “It Ain’t Me, Babe.”
Flo introduced the phenomenal band which backed every artist during the evening: Godfrey Townsend (guitar), Manny Faocarazzo (keys), Greg Smith (bass), and Chris Camilleri (drums). Finally, The Turtles broke into crowd favorites “Eleanor” and “Happy Together”, which brought the audience to their feet dancing. The finale included all the featured bands together on stage.
I really enjoyed the show—and so did the audience which gave many standing ovations during the evening. The performances were truly amazing and I was blown away by the voices–real, pure, and without Auto-Tune, people. It truly is WORTH going to see the Happy Together tour so I urge people to catch it this summer. Go alone or bring your parents for an evening of sing-along songs and AM radio nostalgia–I did!

In middle school, John Green novels were the quintessential YA diaries in which my friends and I indulged. Ferociously consuming his books and feeding our angst and inflated otherness through Margo Roth Spiegelman and Alaska Young, or pining for the love of Hazel and Augustus, the announcement of an adaptation sent us straight to theaters to see our literary parasocial relationships on the big screen.
“Turtles All the Way Down” is the newest page-to-screen translation of a John Green tale, directed by Hannah Marks and scripted by two “ Love, Simon ” co-writers Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker . With both the novel’s publication and film’s release taking place years after my entry to adulthood, the persistence of Green’s youthful narrative charm was in question. But “Turtles All the Way Down” is the opposite of tired, certain to find an audience in its targeted teens and tweens and delight the minds and hearts of those who may suspect themselves too old for it.
Aza ( Isabela Merced ) is a timid teen with OCD, habitually finding herself in intrusive thought spirals concerning infection and the human microbiome, feeling like an endless Russian doll of a person, unable to find herself in the layers. Juggling her mental health alongside the grief of her late father and the angst of feeling misunderstood by her hovering though well-intentioned mother ( Judy Reyes ), Aza often feels drowned in her own humanity. Her best friend Daisy (Cree) is the opposite of her in every way: outgoing, witty, and perpetually unbothered, at times to the point of recklessness.
When a local billionaire goes on the run to avoid pending charges, Daisy convinces Aza to sneak onto his estate in search for clues, in the hopes of snagging $100k worth of reward money for pertinent info. When caught by security, their saving grace from a call to the cops is that Aza knows the magnate’s son, Davis ( Felix Mallard ), from a childhood summer spent at grief camp. This reunion prompts a swift change from a childhood crush to a budding romance. But as Aza desires closeness, the expected butterflies of anxiety are metastasized by the oppressive influence of her OCD.
“Turtles All the Way Down” is on the pulse of a very present sense of youth, one marked by discussions of mental health. Marks’ direction and excellent sound design, which sets Aza’s thought spirals to a soundtrack of pulsing static, places us effectively into her interiority. Neither the film nor Merced’s highly emotive performance pities Aza or people like her in an othering way. The proximity we’re given to her inner dialogue through Merced’s narration, as well as the palpable, smile-inducing chemistry of Merced and Cree’s Daisy root Aza so empathetically that we, with ease, can pinpoint our own anxieties, present and remembered, amidst her shallow breaths. However, her OCD and intrusive thoughts are not defining. Equally, the film's tenderness and humor are touching and exciting in the wealth of moments that are peripheral to lapses where she’s trapped in her mind. It’s also undeniably relatable.
Aza and Daisy spend their days waxing sarcastic on their love lives, coupon-dining at Applebee’s, and driving around habitually listening to the CD stuck in the player of Aza’s car, Stankonia by Outkast (a sweet moment of them rapping to "Ms. Jackson" being just one highlight in the film’s colorful soundtrack, which also boasts needle drops from LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala, and Billie Eilish ).
The Davis-Aza relationship is responsible for a large amount of heartwarming, kick-your-feet sweetness, but Mallard’s performance struggles to match Merced’s authenticity. While a handful of their one-on-one moments and preciously awkward text convos may recall your first big crush, and others your dreams of what it could’ve been like (unless your high school sweetheart whisked you off on a private jet to Chicago, in which case, good for you), there’s simply no match for the Aza-Daisy dynamic. Through all their ups and downs, the feeling of best friendship perseveres through the film’s love, lust, and bacteria.
Marks’ “Turtles All the Way Down” shines with John Green’s trademark whimsy. It’s a charming, delightful YA romance that doesn’t bind itself to the sole enjoyment of its target market. “Turtles All the Way Down” will find the youth identifying and everyone else remembering.

What an amazing experience! And one that exceeded the expectations of our family group. We watched a loggerhead turtle lay her eggs, bury them and return to the ocean…she was a 1 in a 1000! The conservation efforts and knowledge shared by experts and volunteers amplified the experience!

A fascinating beach that changes so much as you walk it. Starting as golden sand at one end, moving through to shellgrit then pebbles and finally volcanic rock. Beautiful.

Went this arvo to see if we could see any baby turtles, just saw the one, the ranger said he was deformed and they had found him stuck under roots while checking hatched nests..

Wonderful volunteers, lots of information provided. My husband walks with crutches, we had a volunteer assigned to us who ensured we got the full experience. The Centre itself is world class with displays and images to maintain interest while waiting to head for the beach. Good compromise between turtle conservation and public information and propaganda. Money well spent. I would come again.

Wonderful time here today, we watched a cinematic tour of turtles, hatchlings, and how we can all do our bit to help these creatures. Starting one man at a time to becoming a world wide cause. The cafe offered plenty of choices to eat and drink and the artwork on display was totally stunning, no photography allowed so I cannot add a photo. Go see for yourself, you won't be disapointed. Very helpful staff too. Thank you.

The action in Turtles All the Way Down (screenplay by Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker) kicks off with news of a fugitive billionaire. Russell Pickett, a scientist facing federal charges, has been missing for days, and police are offering a $100,000 reward for any information on his whereabouts. During one of their regular lunch dates at Applebee’s, Aza’s best friend Daisy, a boisterous and witty teen who works at a Chuck E. Cheese-coded venue and writes Star Wars fan fiction, plots a way to get the cash. She reminds her friend that they are not the kind of people who can afford to turn up their noses at money. (It’s one of only a few moments where Turtles All the Way Down does more than gesture at deeper class politics.)
Remembering that Aza spent a summer with Pickett’s son, Davis (Mallard), at a retreat for grieving children (aka “sad camp”), Daisy urges her friend to rack her brain for useful memories about the family. When Aza recalls a random camera on the Picketts’ property, the Indianapolis teens embark on an investigation.
It only takes a few smiles and one longing look for Davis and Aza to rekindle their relationship. The pair hang out every day and their texts buzz with a familiar adolescent urgency and frequency. Aza wonders if she might be able to have a life that resembles, in her words, that of “normal people.”
But the obsessive thoughts never stay quiet for long enough. They hum in the background of her budding relationship with Davis, whose character struggles to escape the one-dimensionality of the Boy Next Door prototype. Mallard sheds the downbeat misanthropy of his character in Ginny & Georgia for a more sensitive and nurturing posture here, but despite the actor’s best efforts and real chemistry with Merced, Davis is essentially a one-note character. We know he appreciates art and attends private school, but the emotional texture of his life falls comparatively flat to Aza’s. This plagues the central love story, which, although quite tender at times, runs almost exclusively on a cursory kind of sweetness.
Conversations between Aza and her psychiatrist (Poorna Jagannathan) help us better understand the push and pull of the teenager’s condition. The resolute doctor urges Aza to take her medication, talk more about her father’s death and take therapy seriously. But Aza is resistant and, at one point, confesses that the pills make her feel too subdued. These sessions give the teen’s later attempts to cleanse herself by swallowing hand sanitizer a poignant desperation.
Merced’s performance hits its stride in these scenes, as well as when Aza navigates difficult confrontations with her mother and Daisy. A particularly challenging argument with the latter makes for some of the movie’s most stirring moments. Merced and Cree’s natural chemistry, affirmed early on through montages of their characters grooving to Outkast, draws us into this friendship and keeps us invested through the highs and lows.
What a shame that we don’t get to experience even more of Aza and Daisy, whose conversations capture many of the lessons Turtles All the Way Down has to offer. It’s through this relationship — above all others — that Aza wakes up to the ways pining for a “normal” life has kept her from being present for her own.
