Hints and tips for improving your chances of getting Tom Jones tickets

Make sure you have a my ticketmaster account.

Get the basics covered before tickets go on sale by logging in and checking your Ticketmaster account ahead of time. If you don’t have a Ticketmaster Account then make sure you sign up in advance –  Ticketmaster.com.au .

Sign into your My Ticketmaster account ahead of time

Remember to triple check your passwords, account information, and billing information are all filled in correctly in advance, that way you’re not facing any last-minute account updates when trying to process your order.

Keep your options open with ‘Best Available’

Save time by searching “Best Available,” which scans all sections fast – it’s quicker than searching sections one at a time.

Keep an eye on the clock

There will be a time limit applied to all transactions as you are progressed through the ticket purchasing stages. Remember to keep an eye on the timer on your screen and move through the processing pages as quickly as possible (this is even easier when you’ve completed the account set-up stage we mentioned above).

Don’t refresh your screen

Stick to one window while you’re in the  Waiting Room  and when you’re being pushed through  the Smart Queue  and always resist the urge to refresh.

Hitting the refresh button means you’ll lose your place in the queue and, as frustrating as it can get, patience is the only way to win this game. Ticketmaster is equipped with sophisticated systems that are designed to manage and process ticket purchases as quickly as possible. The queuing system that appears on your screen will place you at the front of the line as soon as possible.

Remember: there are a lot of fans

We’re expecting this to be a very popular event. When a popular event goes on sale there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands, of customers all attempting to purchase tickets at the same time. Tickets are sold as long as seats are available, and when an act is this popular, sometimes they go very quickly.

Be sure to follow the above tips to ensure you have the best chance of snapping up some tickets.

Widely considered one of the greatest singers and recording artists of all time, with a remarkable career spanning more than six decades, Jones has announced he will be returning to perform in Australia for the first time since 2016.

His run of 2024 dates includes shows in Perth, Bowral (as part of Day on the Green, with special guest Delta Goodrem), Adelaide, Newcastle and Sydney. Jones will also headline Bluesfest in Byron Bay on March 30, 2024.

In 2006, Jones was also knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

Tom Jones Delivers His Own Eulogy For Stunning ‘Ages & Stages’ Tour Melbourne 2024

by Paul Cashmere on April 1, 2024

Tom Jones was sharing way more than just his songs with his Melbourne audience this week. If you have listened to any of Tom’s albums since ‘Praise & Blame’ in 2010 you already know Tom has reached a different plane to where he was as “Pop Star” Tom in the 60s, and “reinvented” Tom in the 90s.

On the surface, this setlist looks like it is full of holes. I’m sure many of the old fans left wondering what all that new stuff was all about when a lot of the old stuff was missing. This show felt like Tom was delivering his own Eulogy. And let me tell you why that was brilliant …

Tom is clearly at a stage in life when you realise there is less ahead than there is behind. Tom is using the stage to express his wisdom by instead of singing his history, he is telling his history in the words of others (like Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, Leonard Cohen, Terry Callier and Todd Snider).

The choice of the songs drilling into the lyrics was masterful. This was a theatrical choice. Tom was giving away more of himself in the songs of others than I’m sure most in the audience even realised.

Cat Stevens ‘Pop Star’ talks about the very start of what Tom went through, about wanting to be a pop star, going on TV, the first gig, making the money (and he used he song of a friend to tell that tale). Ry Cooder’s ‘Across the Universe’ may seem a strange choice for Sir Tom, but check the continuity after performing ‘Pop Star’, then showcasing the fame with ‘Green, Green Grass of Home’ (the centre of Tom’s popdom), into Ry’s potent words:

There’s a place where I’ve been told Every street is paved with gold And it’s just across the borderline And when it’s time to take your turn Here’s a lesson that you must learn You could lose more than you’ll ever hope to find

And the story unfolds …

Dylan’s ‘One More Cup of Coffee’ brings Tom to today and the realisation that the end if closer to the start…

One more cup of coffee for the road One more cup of coffee ’fore I go To the valley below

To the warning about today and in particular, America 2024 in ‘Talking Reality Television Blues’:

As we hurdled ever forward towards alternative facts Then a show called “The apprentice” came on and pretty soon An old man with a comb-over had sold us the moon We stayed tuned in, now here we are Reality killed by a reality star

The depth of this show is stunning. We were in the Temple of Tom, wise old Tom. To Leonard Cohen’s ‘Tower of Song”:

Well, my friends are gone and my hair is grey I ache in the places where I used to play

This setlist was no accident. Right from the first song Tom told us:

I’m growing wise I’m growing, yes I’m growing old

That was followed by the first of two Dylan tracks in this show. ‘Not Dark Yet’ says:

Shadows are falling and I’ve been here all day It’s too hot to sleep, time is running away Feel like my soul has turned into steel I’ve still got the scars that the sun didn’t heal There’s not even room enough to be anywhere It’s not dark yet, but it’s getting there

Tom is both commentator and performer. ‘Its Not Unusual’ and ‘Whats New Pussycat’ then quickly frame the start of the story. ‘Sex Bomb’ went before ‘Pop Star’… this was a beautifully curated show. The hits are woven through the show but they are darker, they are soulful. The horror and drama on the lyrics of ‘Delilah’, a story about a vicious murder we all danced and sang along to into in the day, a presented visually in all their gory glory.

I’m guessing in was no coincidence Terry Callier’s ‘Lazarus Man’ came after ‘Delilah’ and before Tom’s reinvention era of the 80s and 90s, with ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’, ‘If I Only Knew’ and ‘Kiss’. ‘Lazarus Man’ alludes to the times inbetween the fame when Tom figuratively was “dead to us”. When he was having hits, when he was playing in clubs. But he came back with ‘Kiss’ in the 80s and he came back with his version of Randy Newman’s ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ in ‘The Full Monty’ and ‘The Lead and How To Swing It’ in the 90s. But for 15 years from 1972 to 1987 Tom was Lazarus on the charts.

Yeah, somebody was saying “Hey, Lazarus arise!” So I sat up and opened my eyes You know I wanted to dance but I didn’t have no room I threw off the sheets and walked out of my tomb

There was so must knowledge in the songs that I haven’t even gotten to the stories Sir Tom told between the songs. His last story was about when he and Elvis both had residencies at the same time in Las Vegas. Once night after they finished their shows, they decided to go and see the real King of Rock and Roll (as Tom said Elvis called him), Chuck Berry. It was into ‘Johnny B. Goode’, and then it was over.

Tom is 83 years old. He had the energy of someone half his age and he did say he will be back. This was no farewell tour … but if it turns out that way, then this was the best I have ever seen him (and I have seen him a lot over the decades).

Tom Jones: Ages & Stages Tour, Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne, March 28th 2024 – Live Review

Sir Thomas Jones Woodward OBE otherwise known as Tom Jones is a musician that I grew up listening to. His music was frequently sourced on my parents’ karaoke machine whenever they felt like singing with accompaniment or had their house parties. Some of his songs were my dad’s favourites to sing to. While I haven’t attended karaoke in years, Tom Jones’ songs have been under regular rotation on my family’s record player, my CD player, and now my streaming playlist.

Revisiting Melbourne for the first time since 2016, Tom Jones made his long awaited return to our fair city at Margaret Court Arena for his Ages & Stages Tour . While I am fortunate enough to have witnessed Tom Jones live back at the 2014 AFL Grand Final post-match free concert, I had never actually seen Tom Jones in a headline show. So, when his Melbourne concert was announced, I just knew I had to be there.

The Ages & Stages Tour takes his generations of fans through his brilliant career, with many interesting stories along the way in between songs. In fact, Jones had wonderful introductions and stories for all his numbers, sharing on his achievements and adventures which were so fascinating to listen to. My favourite tale was when Jones happily reminisced of his time bonding with Elvis Presley when they went out to see Chuck Berry perform live in Las Vegas.

Production wise, the Ages & Stages Tour looked impressive with excellent lighting and a large screen that displayed Jones for majority of the concert. There are many concerts I’ve attended where the screen doesn’t display the artist but simply visual effects which is not great for those seated further away. But thankfully, this wasn’t the case with Jones ’ show.  It didn’t matter where you were seated, you could clearly see Tom Jones in all his glory and hear his booming voice which smoothly soared throughout the Melbourne venue. The artist was accompanied by a 5-piece band which included his musical director Gary Wallace , and together, Tom Jones and his band provided revamps of his iconic songs.

Revamped classics included, ‘It’s Not Unusual’ with its own salsa music spin, ‘What’s New Pussycat?’ which made me feel like I was transported to France for a moment, a rockabilly version of ‘Sex Bomb’ , and the dramatic ‘Delilah’ which sounded like a healthy mix of Mexican mariachi inspired music infused with rock music. It was all really cool and very refreshing for these songs that Jones (minus ‘Sex Bomb’ , his original) has made his own.

Despite this, credit was always given where it was due, Tom Jones proactively stated before every song who originated or composed it before he would sing it. I loved this because although Jones is very proud of his accomplishments ( as he should be ) and is unashamed about his age ( clearly from the tour title ), Tom Jones has remained very personable, grateful, cheeky, and extremely humble. He consistently checked on his audience to make sure that patrons were alright and having fun. After every song performed, he would also take a gracious bow to his loving Melbourne audience.

Standing and gleefully swaying to his catchier numbers, even getting the crowd to participate by singing along and clapping their hands together, it was just as easy for Jones to slow the mood down for the ballads, sometimes taking the time to sit, so that he could focus on showcasing the extent of his powerful vocals that we’ve all grown to love and admire. This was particularly evident with the ever appropriate first song of the night ‘I’m Growing Old’ , the breathtaking rendition of ‘I Won’t Crumble with You If You Fall’ , and the witty ‘Lazarus Man’ .

My favourite tune of the night was when Tom Jones performed ‘Green Grass of Home’ . Played just the way I remembered it; this beautiful song was one of my late father’s favourites and hearing it live almost moved me to tears. It was a sentimental moment and a kind reminder of just how embraced my life, as well as many others, have been by Tom Jones ’ wonderful voice and music.

Not just when he sung but when he spoke too, despite being in an arena, Tom Jones ’ concert felt intimate. It was like being reunited with an old family friend. Whenever patrons would shout that they loved him, he would immediately reply with “I love you too” . Jones never hesitated to make fun of his age too and openly displayed his silly sense of humour, cheekily explaining to his knowing audience what record players are, which gained many chuckles.

Tom Jones had pockets of fans energetically dancing but respectfully not blocking other patrons towards the end of the night to ‘If I Only Knew’ , Randy Newman’s ‘You Can Leave Your Hat On’ , and a funky cover of Prince’s ‘Kiss’ . By the time he performed the finale, Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B. Goode’ , I too was on my feet and dancing.

Tom Jones ’ Ages & Stages Tour is a celebration of music and life from this living legend that deserves every success and happiness. It was truly an honour seeing him in his element. Affectionately advising he hoped to see us again and bidding his audience, “Goodnight and god bless you all” , I found myself enamoured and really hoping we do see Tom Jones in Melbourne again.

Clearly still the coolest cat in the neighbourhood, it’s hard to believe that Tom Jones, at the tender age of almost 84, sounds the same. If anything, he’s even better than he ever was because of his lifetime of knowledge and experience which has made him the music titan he is today. The Teskey Brothers: ‘Oh My God! Since When Did We Start Playing Stadiums!?’

Live Review: Tom Jones @ Margaret Court Arena

Tonight’s show is the glorious culmination of many decades of Jones' experience as a singer and entertainer.

Tom Jones

Tom Jones (Source: Supplied)

This month sees the second knight of the realm tour our country this year! Duty bound to entertain us till the end of his days, Sir Tom Jones, dealt a wonderful show of hits that took in his expansive career. This is the kind of show we wish we could have taken our parents or grandparents to, but considering that some of them are already in aged care, it is amazing that Jones, at 83, can still tour the world and has the stamina to play a two and a half hour show every night.

Jones has carved a career on his now iconic rich and thick baritone. His voice soars on the sobering I’m Growing Old by Bobby Frank, which opens the show. It is, however, a wild demonstration that time has not diminished his voice at all. He continues in a similar vein to give us a powerful version of Bob Dylan ’s quietly reflective, Not Dark Yet .

It is reassuring to see that Jones, in old age, tends to reflect on his twilight years and mortality with a certain maturity instead of trying to present what would be an awkward, hip-swivelling twenty-something image of himself. Someone throws a bunch of flowers at the stage, and they land at his feet. Jones acknowledges that it was a very kind gesture but that he would have to leave them there because, amusingly, at his age, he might not be able to get back up after bending down to pick them up.

Jones is still plenty groovy, but it is his band that provided arrangements that take their cue from American blues, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B, funk and soul that moved familiar tunes in unexpected directions.  It’s Not Unusual, which featured Jones’ musical director Gary Wallis on congas and piano accordion, was dealt with a light and breezy tropical vibe. What’s New Pussycat? followed in a similar vein. It almost didn’t matter how they played these songs as the beaming crowd sang along loudly to these old favourites. Paying tribute to Dusty Springfield , a dreamy cover of Windmills Of Your Mind soon followed.

Jones is especially proud of the fact that his last album, Surrounded By Time , released in 2021, hit number one on the English charts, making him the oldest man to top the charts. The setlist is liberally peppered with songs from this album. We already know songs like Cat Stevens ’ Pop Sta r, Leonard Cohen ’s Tower Of Song and Dylan’s One More Cup Of Coffee but the psychedelic spoken word Talking Reality Television Blues is a fascinating interlude in the set.

The images on the screen become a flicker fest of images that move through the decades from mid century. Its not celebratory in tone, rather it’s a darkly cynical reflection on the medium that massages the minds of millions the world over, taking aim at its representations of reality and unreality. It’s a grinding bluesy workout which feels great but perhaps isn’t as pop as some fans may have expected.

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

At the heart of tonight’s set is a brooding cover of the late great Terry Callier ’s Lazarus Man . Jones’s take on the song is compelling and darkly sombre. It sounded as though he was channelling his inner Nick Cave to craft a mysteriously eerie atmosphere.

While the vibe about fans was that they wished Jones had played more of his hits, it can’t be denied that Jones dropped many hits across the set. Sex Bomb was surprisingly recast as a wild bluesy grind. Taking his cue from Jerry Lee Lewis , Jones delivered the hymnal Green, Green Grass Of Home and torrid romance of Deliah . A roughed-up version of You Can Leave Your Hat On preceded nineties hits If I Only Knew and that cover of Prince ’s Kiss .

Suddenly, it was time for encores and One Hell Of A Life, written for him by Katell Keineg , pretty much projected what Jones thinks about his life. It has been amazing and he knows it. During encores, Jones acknowledges that he has toured the world many times over and isn’t planning on stopping anytime soon.

While pop music has always been Jones's stomping ground, the ever-present fascination with rock and roll has been obvious throughout the show. A sweet cover of Sister Rosetta Tharpe ’s Strange Things Happening Every Day is where Jones and the band really started to let it all hang out. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was, of course, a huge influence on Elvis , and Jones couldn’t go before telling us about the time he used to hang out with Elvis in Vegas.

The story goes that Elvis took Jones to see Chuck Berry where he told Jones that Berry was undeniably the king of rock and roll. Of course, this was just an excuse to bring down the night with a raucous version of Johnny B Goode that almost instantly had some of us thinking about Marty Mcfly.

Tonight’s show is the glorious culmination of many decades of Jones' experience as a singer and entertainer. At this late stage of his career, it's surprising to see that Jones is still restless about moving forward with new songs and ideas.

Some fans were seen leaving carrying the unmentionables they had planned to throw on stage. A pair of jocks was spotted in the aisle as we were leaving raised questions without answers.

Tom Jones Confirms North American Tour (Get the Dates Here!)

Tom Jones is currently singing his heart out on a UK and EU tour and gearing up to head to North America. The crooner recently announced that he will continue on tour in the United States and Canada this fall. Despite being 84 years old, he isn’t taking much of a break between tours. Jones is heading to cities around the country including New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Atlantic City and more.

Jones proved that retirement is not an option for him right now between releasing music and touring. His most recent studio album was released in 2021, titled Surrounded by Time . After he released the album, he became the oldest male artist to top the UK album chart. Several of the songs were set aside for decades before he felt he could perform them well enough.

Jones explained at the time of the album’s release, “So I had two songs. I had ‘I’m Growing Old,’ which Bobby Cole gave me in the 70s in Vegas. I told him, ‘I don’t think I’m old enough to record that yet.’ I said, ‘If I ever get there…’ ‘Maybe 70,’ I thought. But it turns out I’m 80. So I thought, ‘Well, now’s the time to do it.’ And the same thing with ‘Ol’ Mother Earth,’ which was a Tony Joe White song. I got to know Tony Joe White and I love his stuff. I thought, ‘What a great song that is!'”

He is now 83 years old and has something to say about retirement.
