The 10 best record bags for taking your vinyl on the road

Amar ediriwira, published on, june 10, 2016.

travel heavy record case

Having explored shelving alternatives to IKEA , record consoles to reimagine your living space and crates for carting vinyl around the home , it’s now time to roundup the very best record bags on the market.

Whether it’s an industry standard trolley for gigs, something casual to sling over your shoulder, a cycling bag, or, you know, just a Jean-Michel Basquiat-designed record box, we’ve got all shapes, sizes and bank balances covered.

And whilst we’ve picked solutions for different situations, the key thing to note about these ten products is that they will all keep your vinyl safe on the fly.

Dive in below and let us know if we’ve missed something special.

Magma 7″ Single Bag 150 II

Price: £74.00

From over-the-shoulder messenger bags to tour-ready trolley board systems, Magma has been serving DJs since 1999. Their 7” single bag isn’t the cheapest around but then again you wouldn’t want to risk crushing that Turkish psych 45, would you? 2.5cm of thick interior padding keeps 150 singles feeling extra fresh. Also available as a Carnival-ready Rasta Edition .

travel heavy record case

Citronic CVA50

Price: £39.99

If you shift vinyl around quite a lot, then Citronic’s robust aluminium flight case is perfect for giving your records the added protection they need. Built like a safe, the case’s exterior is rock solid with chrome plated steel corners, a tough diamond patterned finish, padded carry handle and a lockable lid catch. With padded interior throughout and space for 50xLPs, you can’t go wrong.

The Record Tote Price: $109.00

For the casual record shopper with an eye for independent design, Kate Koeppel’s newest vinyl accessory is this rather fetching Japanese demin tote. Capable of holding between 15 and 20 albums, we believe that calling this a tote is doing it a disservice (most record shop freebies will groan and fray at the edges when filled with more than 10). Instead let’s call this a proper record bag, an alternative to your fusty old satchel, which marries style and substance, with the added gravitas of being beautifully hand-crafted in San Francisco.

Beat Bop Box

Price: c.£95.00

What better way to carry your 45s than in a box designed by every rapper’s favourite artist and iconoclastic street art pioneer Jean-Michel Basquiat. Featuring licesned images from Rammellzee and K-Rob’s 1983 classic ‘Beat Bop’, the box is said to hold “50 records or a week of greenery” (to quote Madlib) and was produced in a limited edition of 1000, making it just about as rare as the record it’s based on. Practically sold out at source, these surface regularly on eBay so don’t despair.

UDG Trolley To Go Price: £104.25

As close as you get to the industry standard, the Technics SL-1200 of the DJ bag world, UDG’s trolleys need little introduction. The hard-wearing, compact design, complete with lock, is aimed at traveling DJs primarily, the smaller variants are able to be carried on as hand-luggage (just don’t let them weigh it!) Standard and deluxe versions both have extra storage space for 7”s and accessories. While the strap is a life-saver when navigating sodden festival sites, the wheels will save you a decade of back pain when things start to go south. To paraphrase a great man: “Real DJs let the earth help carry their records”.

travel heavy record case

TTL Roll-Top Backpack

Price: $149.00

Whether it’s heavy-duty turntable weights or all-in-one consoles, the good minds at Turntable Lab are continually at the forefront vinyl accessories and equipment. Their take on the record bag is this brilliant roll-top backpack, developed by their Brooklyn neighbours Mer Bags. Using the signature Mer style but tweaking for the 12″ (you can easily fit 40 records) and added a roomy side-opening stash pocket for headphones or cables, it’s a handcrafted and durable bag, perfect for shipping around your records.

travel heavy record case

Bicycle Record Bag Price: €154.00

Let’s face it, the options for transporting your records by bicycle aren’t great. Sling a record bag over the shoulder? Crush an LP mailer into a rucksack? Wing it with a plastic bag? Not ideal. Designed in cycle culture capital Copenhagen (where else?) this deluxe cycle record bag has the answer. Fit snuggly to your frame, it can carry up to eight records to make your afternoon record buying experience that little bit more civilized. The cotton waxed waterproof military textile, soft leather and brass detail don’t half look good either.

travel heavy record case

Cosmo Baker North To South DJ Messenger Bag

Price: $249.00

Billed as the real DJ’s DJ bag, this messenger bag was designed with input from New York veteran Cosmo Baker, himself a DJ’s DJ, a crate-digger’s crate-digger. “Being on the road over 150 days per year, I need a bag that is all business,” he says. “Functionality is key but that doesn’t mean that one should sacrifice style. Together with Tucker & Bloom, we’ve created this DJ bag that no only works perfectly with my lifestyle. I’ll throw my laptop in, some vinyl and my DJ gear, a book, a change of clothes and toiletries, and I’m out the door.” There you have it.

travel heavy record case

Airbag A2 Chateau Price: €268.00

Where to start with Airbag? These guys could have a whole list to themselves. Fast becoming a contemporary classic, these German bag-makers have got all your record carrying needs covered. Rucksacks, satchels and handbags for casual collectors are all represented, all made to dimensions that have your records in mind, with the Taunas and Offenbach lines worth seeking out. However, if you really want to steel the show behind the booth, Airbag’s Chateau and Playhouse lines are for you. Sleek, minimal design, the former opens via a circumference zip to make selection even easier, both cushioned on the inside, hard-wearing on the outside (like an armadillo?). This is one of the best looking bags out there.

Original Peter: The Record Rucksack

Price: £265.00

One evening, out of a frustrated bag discussion, vinyl nuts Jonny Trunk (of Trunk Records) and Ed Griffiths (the man who started blaxploitation.com) decided it was time to design the ultimate record bag; and so, Original Peter was born. These delightful bags are made by a traditional British manufacturer that’s been crafting classic hunting, shooting and fishing bags for hundreds of years. Whether you go for the market-ready Utrecht range, the straight-up LP carrier, or the dinky 7-inch selection, these bags will age handsomely, last you a lifetime, and feel pretty damn good on your shoulder all the while. If that wasn’t enough, all of these bags come with a ‘lucky dip’ record from Jonny’s and Ed’s collections. Ace.

Best DJ Bags, Boxes and Trolleys 2024

We pick the best ways transport your vinyl and DJ equipment, with record bags , boxes and trolleys from UDG, Magma and more featured.

travel heavy record case

The humble record bag is no longer humble. Most DJs used to be happy with anything that would do a half-decent job of protecting their vinyl, but we’ve come to expect storage for headphones, adapters, memory cards, laptops and even controllers.

These days there’s something for everyone, whether you want a lightweight bag for crate digging or something as sturdy as possible for checking in on a flight. Options range from streamlined and simple all the way through to ultra-high-tech luggage systems with more compartments and hidden pockets than Batman’s utility belt.

Here we run through our favourite options. Every brand on our list makes a range of bags and cases to suit different needs, from lightweight shoulder packs through to full-on rolling trolley systems, so be sure to click through and explore the rest of the range if you like the look of a particular model but need something a little different to the spec we’ve chosen.

Bag, box or trolley?

Just records, or more, udg ultimate slingbag mk2, magma lp40 bag ii, technics backpack, underground resistance record bag, udg trolley to go, magma 45 7″ bag, sound lab eurostyle case, reloop club series 50/50 case.

What to look for

The most basic questions when choosing from our list are what size of record you’re going to carry and how much protection you need.

In terms of size, the choice is very simple. Bags aimed to fit 7-inch and 12-inch records are available, with the latter also suitable for 10-inch records. Choose your size appropriately, then you face the slightly trickier question of whether to go for a bag, box or trolley.

Most DJs will instinctively have a good feel for how much they’re going to rely on their bag to protect their records. Casual daily use probably doesn’t necessitate quite such a sturdy, padded bag as hard gigging, for example. Air travel could mean even more protection is required to keep your vinyl safe during the flight.

The basic fabric bag is the starting point here, offering little in the way of protection but light weight and convenience for daily use. It’s probably the best choice if you’re going crate digging or using it for day-to-day activities, perhaps carrying a mixture of records, magazines and maybe a tablet or laptop.

A hard record case or box offers the ultimate protection, but the obvious downside is the added weight. With that said, there are definitely certain times when that doesn’t really matter – if you mainly travel by car, for instance, and don’t have to shoulder the burden of your record collection by hand too often. Hard cases also offer a good option for long-term storage, allowing you to shut out the elements and keep your most valued records safe and secure.

One small detail worth noting is that most hard boxes designed for 12-inch records will also be too large to qualify as carry-on/cabin luggage for most airlines. If you want to keep your records with you in order to ensure they don’t get lost, a slightly smaller padded bag is the way to go. Padded soft bags are the most common compromise between the two extremes, offering some added protection over a simple fabric bag.

These padded bags are also typically what you’ll encounter when considering trolleys, which are effectively bags with wheels and handles, similar to wheeled luggage but specifically designed for vinyl and typical DJ accessories.

The most basic record bags are just designed to carry records. For some DJs, that’s perfectly sufficient, but others will want to carry accessories and essentials such as headphones.

Mid-range DJ bags such as the Magma LP40 Bag II typically add at least one large pocket for a pair of DJ headphones. At the cheaper end of the price range, you might not get much in the way of separate sections or secure zips, but at least you’ll be able to fit in one or two more items.

The more advanced record bags on the market, such as UDG’s Ultimate Slingbag MK2, feature multiple pockets, allowing you to organise and protect your headphones, perhaps a pair of styluses or USB sticks if you also use CDJs or other digital DJ decks. There’s much more variety in pocket sizes and locations on the more expensive bags, giving you a safe home for everything you need to carry.

The best DJ bags, boxes and trolleys

slingbag

Founded in 2000, UDG are widely seen as the market-leading brand for serious DJ luggage. The Dutch brand’s commitment to quality and innovation is reinforced by the fact that they’re used by a who’s who of A-list names, including Sven Väth, Carl Cox and James Zabiela.

If you asked us to recommend one bag that would work best for the vast majority of DJs, the second-gen Slingbag would be our choice. It’s sturdy, it’s versatile, it’s got pockets for headphones and accessories, plus it’s stylish and comfortable to wear. The Slingbag is the definition of an all-rounder, suitable for most vinyl DJs. You might want to look elsewhere in the UDG range if you have specialist requirements for laptop storage or controllers, but as far as simple and trustworthy record luggage goes, it’s very hard to beat. We know DJs who’ve clocked up hundreds of gigs with a Slingbag, which is why we don’t hesitate to recommend it.

magma 12

As a smaller, lighter alternative to the Slingbag, we like the Magma LP40. With a capacity of up to 40 12-inches it’s about half the size of the Slingbag, which makes it significantly lighter and easier to manage. Magma tend to come in a little cheaper than UDG, but the German brand’s product range is extensive and the quality is very good, offering excellent value for money. Just like UDG, Magma also boast an array of big name users, including Seth Troxler, Goldie and Luciano.

The LP40 is the brand’s smallest 12-inch offering, making it easy on the back. As a rule of thumb, it’s generally better to go for a bag that’s just big enough rather than using one that’s much bigger than you need; not only is it lighter and less bulky, but there’s less chance of damaging your records if they’re tightly packed than there is if they’re loose and free to move around.

technics

At first glance, the Technics Backpack looks like the definition of a classic record bag: understated design in a range of colours, capacity somewhere around 50 12-inches and that iconic logo embroidered on the front flap. What sets it apart from most of the other options on our list is that it’s also got a pair of straps on the back allowing you to wear it on your back like a conventional rucksack.

In our experience, most DJs tend to prefer a single shoulder strap purely because the size of a 12-inch record bag makes it a bit cumbersome when worn on the back, but there’s no denying that it can get tiring and even painful to carry a full record bag on one shoulder for extended periods of time. Having the option of wearing the Technics bag as a backpack does provide relief when walking longer distances, such as lengthy airport transfers. It’s a nice option to have, and much cheaper than stepping up to a trolley system.

travel heavy record case

Label-branded record luggage can be a bit hit and miss, with some of the cheaper options being little more than a generic courier bag with a logo printed on the front. You’d expect Underground Resistance to do things properly, and the iconic Detroit collective don’t disappoint with this typically solid offering, which holds up to 50 records with a good level of protection.

You can see that thought has gone into the design process here, with a hybrid courier bag/backpack design allowing you to carry the bag comfortably in different ways. A combination of zippable inner and outer pockets, adjustable straps and protective flaps keeps all of your vinyl and accessories safe. And, of course, it’s all branded with that legendary UR logo on the outer flap.

udg trolley to go

Some vinyl DJs used to take a masochistic pleasure in lugging huge crates of records to gigs, but the days of taking pride in putting yourself through physical turmoil are thankfully over. For longer trips and international travel, a wheeled, trolley-style bag takes all the strain off your back, allowing you to roll your records with ease and then packing the extendable handle away when necessary. Given that a fully packed 80-capacity 12-inch bag can easily weigh 20kg, that’s a very good idea as far as we’re concerned.

You can easily go even bigger and more fully-featured in the UDG range, which extends up to huge multi-bag systems and dedicated bags for controllers and other hardware, but the Trolley To Go is one of our favourites because it’s designed to meet the size criteria for cabin luggage on any airline. There are lots of flight cases and bags designed to protect your records even when checked into the hold, but the advantages of a cabin-sized bag are obvious: you can keep your luggage in sight at all times and there’s almost zero chance of your bag getting lost or damaged by baggage handlers. Even if you only occasionally fly with records, it’s a great trolley for regular use, taking the strain off your back and making life easier when hauling stacks of vinyl. Highly recommended.

magma 45

DJing with 45s presents its own challenges, not least in the sense that the shorter run time of a 7-inch record dictates that DJs generally need to carry lots of them. We’ve probably all seen soul DJs unloading stacks of impractical cardboard boxes and plastic crates into the DJ booth but there are, thankfully, much better options available these days.

Magma’s smartly designed bags are a neat and versatile solution for 45 DJs, offering enough capacity for up to 150 7-inches each in a simple format with dividable internal space and a few side pockets for good measure. Constructed from durable black ballistic nylon, they’re sturdy and unpretentious, which we like a lot. We also like the fact that the width is almost exactly the same as a 12-inch record bag, which means they stack nicely together if you’re carrying different formats. There’s also a strap on the back designed to slide over the handle of most wheeled luggage, allowing you to roll a larger bag and the 45 bag as one, which is a nice touch.

sound lab

Hard flight cases used to be the go-to option for any self-respecting DJ. Back in the day, when vinyl was the default choice, there was no real alternative; a hard case was the only reliable way to avoid damage to your precious cargo. Hard cases have fallen out of favour a little bit in recent years simply because premium soft bags such as the UDG and Magma designs have caught up and now offer a good level of protection, but if you’re checking records in as luggage on a flight or just looking for the ultimate level of protection in a club environment, there’s no doubt that a hard case is still the best option.

Sound LAB’s Eurostyle cases are (literally) a solid offering from a brand that consistently offers good value for money. They’re not the flashiest or most contemporary design, but they get the job done at an unbeatable price. For ultimate protection on a budget, it’s hard to quibble.

reloop

The next step up from the Sound LAB would be something like this sturdy offering from Reloop. The 50/50 design means that the two halves of the case can be separated once you arrive in the DJ booth, and the 80 records inside can be split between the two, giving you a bit more space to flick through and select tracks. In practice it does make a big difference having that little bit more space to work with your crates, and there’s no sacrifice in terms of durability or security once the two pieces are clipped back together.

Despite the fact that it’s part of Reloop’s Club Series, it’s also worth mentioning that we love the slanted Reloop for home use. Anyone with a decent vinyl collection knows how easy it is to get carried away pulling records off the shelves and stacking them up in a pile next to the hi-fi or decks; the 50/50 case gives you two temporary boxes to tidy things up as you go, keeping your records safe until you have time to file them away properly.

Tucker & Bloom DJ Sidekick 45

tucker and bloom

At the higher end of the DJ bag market, you can expect a whole lot more style as a bonus on top of the functional storage you take for granted. Tucker & Bloom are relative newcomers to the record bag market, but the family-owned brand has been producing bags in its hometown of Nashville, Tennessee for over three decades. That experience shows in DJ-friendly offerings like the Sidekick, shown here in an understated olive colourway.

Just the materials used to construct the Sidekick make impressive reading: a waterproof ballistic nylon outer is teamed with a vegetable-tanned leather handle, shearling shoulder strap, velveteen-lined interior and nickel-cast brass hardware. It reads like it belongs on a fashion blog, but the Sidekick is thankfully not an example of style over substance; the well-designed layout gives internal storage for 100 45s and there are three pockets for accessories and headphones.

The brand also produces a further range of 12-inch packs, messenger bags and 45 luggage, giving plenty of stylish options to suit most requirements.

Transporting your records shouldn’t mean compromising on style, convenience or comfort. Thankfully there are now options to suit every size of vinyl, every level of protection and every potential use.

As with other DJ essentials such as headphones or mixers, the choice of record bag is quite a personal decision. Some DJs prefer the casual approach of a simple fabric messenger bag, while others opt for the safety and protection of a hard box or case.

Maybe the best compromise of all is the UDG Trolley To Go, a hugely popular hybrid of a record bag and wheeled luggage, with an extending handle and locking zip. It’s not the cheapest option on our list, but it does everything very well. We make it the best all-rounder for anyone regularly travelling with vinyl.

Anky Oversized Chaise Rocker Recliner with Extra Extension Footrest

by Lark Manor™

Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars. 17 total votes

This classic oversized rocker recliner invites you to relax and unwind in your living space. Upholstered in 100% polyester fabric, the chair features a manual reclining mechanism with infinite positions, allowing you to find the perfect angle for your comfort. The frame's generous proportion is made from a combination of metal and engineered wood with pocket and sinuous springs for support. We love that this recliner is filled with foam and synthetic fiber for a cozy feel. Designed to accommodate up to 250 lbs, this standard recliner has a removable back for easy moving.

  • Soothing rocking motion
  • Extra Comfort Foot Rest Extension When Reclining for More Room to Stretch Out
  • Seating Constructed of Individually Pocketed Coils Encased in Foam with Cool Gel Memory Foam Topper

I researched recliners for a long time before settling on this one. I ordered the gray polyester, and the color is pretty close to the online color... The chair is beautiful...and it seems to be well made. It is wide enough for me to have my dog (I have Beagles) sit next to me, or one of my grandchildren. I am 5'6" and about 190 pounds, and the chair fits me very well. I'm not sure about the "extended footrest", because my feet hit the "extended" part, exactly where they would on the footrest on a regular recliner. My only negative point about this recliner is that it feels like it leans forward when just sitting in it or rocking. It only leans back when it is reclined. So, instead of leaning back into the backrest, it sits up straight, which is great for your posture, but not so great when you just want to kick back and relax at the end of the day. It also seems to inhibit the rocking motion slightly. I find myself using one foot to push back on the floor a bit to give me the comfort of leaning back. I guess on a positive side, if you need a chair that is easier to get out of, this is it. All in all, it's a nice chair. It looks beautiful and seems sturdy. I love the color and the design. I just don't care for the straight back, or the feeling that it leans forward slightly.. Lori. Orland, CA. 2023-02-21 14:56:37

Arees Power Lay Flat Recliner with Extra Extension

Rated 5 out of 5 stars. 7 total votes

If you are looking for a large-scale recliner built bigger, deeper, and softer, the Arees recliner is for you. The power recline feature gently reclines you to almost infinite positions at the push of a button on an easy-to-operate hand wand. This recliner features an extra extension footrest that adds length to the recliner when extended. Individually pocketed coils encased in foam and topped with a layer of cool gel-infused memory foam come together to create a consistent supportive seat you won't want to leave.

  • Lay flat recline
  • Extra comfort footrest extension when reclining for more room to stretch out
  • Seating is constructed of individually pocketed coils encased in foam with a cool gel-infused memory foam topper
  • Proudly made in the USA
  • Extra Extension Footrest

I had purchased this same recliner but with a manual foot rest, decided I would add another, but power this time, as I have had knee surgery and much more comfortable for me to use the power adjustments. The recliners fit both style and comfort for a welcome relief for my husband and myself as well as family visits...everyone should be able to relax and feel at home!. Jan. Steel 71.5-inch Extra Tall Cat Safety Gate

by Tucker Murphy Pet™

Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars. 74 total votes

The cat safety gate gives cat parents peace of mind by keeping cats safe and sound in whatever space you need to contain them. This 70" extra tall Cat Safety Gate is designed to fit common dimensions of hallways or doors. The gate is tension mounted, designed to fit openings that are 28" - 37.5" wide, and is made with durability in mind (all-steel construction). Each pole is rounded and has a narrow gap to keep cats from climbing, jumping over, or squeezing through the gate. The door opens one way to prevent cats from escaping the interior if left unlocked. Turn the PAW-shaped lock to open and close the door. A block plate is located on the reverse side of the lock to protect from any curious paws looking to open the door. The gate includes rubber feet to protect floor surfaces from scratches. Recommended for cats up to 11 lbs.

  • Product Type: Wall mounted
  • Overall: 71.5'' H x 37.5'' W
  • Material: Metal

Unfortunately because it's a few feet short of the top of the door one of my cats pretty quickly figured out how to jump over it. For my other cat it's worked great so far. Wish it was a bit sturdier by design but otherwise no complaints.. Anonymous. . 2022-10-25 22:04:04

This chair is so comfortable and sturdy. I am a 77 year old woman who weighs over 300 lbs so need a big chair, and this one was perfect. I love the upholstery - I wanted a microfiber, and this is perfect. Sturdy but doesn't pick up a lot of dirt. It is a wallhugger as my home is very small and I needed something that could be placed almost against the wall. And I love the fact that I don't have to tug on the handle to get the foot raised and lowered. Just touch the handle to put it up, and push it back into place when you get out of the chair.. This gate is awesome I am so happy I decided to go with this purchase it’s was actually really easy to assemble took about 10 minutes and that time would’ve been cut in half had I used the power drill! The gate is a little stiff when extending it this could be because it’s new or I may need to look into oiling it a bit, but since I have the option of using the swing method it doesn’t bother me one bit! I absolutely love this gate! Great purchase!. Andrea. KS. 2019-01-11 10:03:00

Jurors in Trump's hush-money trial finally see the 34 allegedly falsified documents in accounting-heavy day of testimony

  • Donald Trump's criminal trial finally arrived at the 34 documents at the heart of the case.
  • Prosecutors allege Trump falsified records to cover up reimbursements to Michael Cohen.
  • Longtime Trump Organization employees testified about the handling of reimbursements.

Insider Today

For the past two weeks, jurors in former President Donald Trump's Manhattan criminal trial heard about extra-marital affairs, seedy "catch and kill" machinations, and the frantic damage control within his campaign ahead of the 2016 election.

On Monday, they heard a lot about accounting.

Prosecutors spent the day presenting two dry — but crucial — witnesses who handled The Trump Organization's finances, cutting checks and creating records within the company.

Those witnesses, longtime Trump Organization employees Jeffrey McConney and Deborah Tarassoff, handled the checks, invoices, and other records that comprise the 34 business records the Manhattan district attorney's office alleges Trump illegally falsified.

This paperwork, shown on giant TV screens in the courtroom, is the crux of the case.

The purpose of those falsifications, prosecutors say, was to cover up reimbursements to Michael Cohen, who wired a $130,000 hush-money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels just 11 days before the 2016 presidential election.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg alleges the money interfered with the election by silencing Daniels' story, long denied by Trump, of a hotel-suite fling during a Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament in 2006, just months after Melania Trump gave birth to their son.

After a brief hearing Monday morning — in which the judge held Trump in contempt for a 10th gag order violation and threatened to jail him — prosecutors called McConney to the stand.

Under a mop of shiny white hair, McConney testified about how finances were managed at the Trump Organization, where he worked for over 30 years and served as the company's controller before retiring in February 2023. He oversaw 401K plans, loan documents, and payroll processing.

Most crucially for the case, he also oversaw Trump's accounts payable department and the accounts receivable department.

"Accounts receivable is the other side, when someone owes you money," McConney said, making grabbing motions in the air with his hands.

The two Trump Organization employees were responsible for making sure Cohen got paid

McConney testified about a meeting in January 2017 with Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization's chief financial officer at the time.

Weisselberg has since stepped down from the position. He was sentenced to five months in jail in 2022 for a Trump Organization felony payroll tax-fraud prosecution , and is now serving another five-month sentence for felony perjury in last year's Trump Organization civil fraud trial.

The Trump Organization needed to reimburse Cohen for some money, McConney testified that Weissberg told him.

"Are you familiar with someone named Michael Cohen?" prosecutor Matthew Colangelo asked McConney on the stand.

McConney gave a heavy sigh, paused, and then answered, "Yes."

"He said he was a lawyer," McConney added, to some laughter in the courtroom.

Prosecutors showed jurors a copy of a bank statement revealing that Cohen sent $130,000 to Keith Davidson — an attorney representing Stormy Daniels, who testified earlier — from one of his accounts.

In handwritten notes shown to the jury , Weisselberg had added $50,000 to cover technical services, doubled that sum to account for the taxes, and then added on a $60,000 bonus.

That total of $420,000 should be disbursed to Cohen throughout 2017, in $35,000 chunks, McConney jotted down in a second document .

Colangelo led jurors meticulously through what prosecutors say was the phonied up paperwork for each of these reimbursement checks.

Each reimbursement check began with Cohen emailing an invoice — and a personal greeting — to Weisselberg, the CFO.

"Hope you are holding up and not damaged by the hurricane to your Florida home," Cohen emailed the CFO in September of 2017.

"Happy Thanksgiving and hope all is well," Cohen emailed the CFO when he sent along his November invoice.

In each month's email Cohen would attach a brief invoice — 11 in all, each of them a falsified document, the DA alleges.

"Dear Allen," each began. "Pursuant to the retainer agreement, kindly remit payment," the invoice would continue.

Weisselberg forwarded each invoice to McConney, the controller, who would forward them to Tarasoff, the accounts payable supervisor.

Tarasoff would print and cut the checks, 11 in all — each of them another alleged falsified document.

Jurors saw each of these checks, too, including nine Capital One personal checks to Cohen that Trump would need to sign himself throughout his first year at the White House.

That created a problem, McConney said. For decades, Trump worked from his office upstairs in Trump Tower, and it was easy to get ahold of him to sign a check. As president, he was rarely in New York, McConney said.

"Somehow, we would have to get a package to the White House," McConney said. Yet another Trump Organization employee would FedEx the checks to Trump in DC, he testified.

In the afternoon, prosecutor Christopher Conroy slogged through more records with Tarasoff, who said she has worked at the Trump Organization for 24 years.

Tarasoff sounded both anxious and cautious as she walked jurors through the process of printing, cutting, and creating payment vouchers for each check.

The parade of emails and invoices didn't excite everyone. At one point during Tarasoff's testimony, Trump's lawyer Todd Blanche let out a wide-mouthed yawn.

Conroy scored a point that seemed to demonstrate Trump was paying attention to each and every check. Sometimes, Tarassoff testified, he'd write "VOID" on a check if he didn't want it paid.

"It was signed in black and it was in Sharpie and that's what he usually uses," Tarasoff said.

The death toll from heavy rains in Brazil’s southern Rio Grande do Sul state jumped to 56 as of Saturday morning, according to the state’s civil defense agency. Helicopters are being used to rescue residents on the rooftops who were isolated in their homes by the widespread flooding that has already displaced more than 30,000 people.

SAO PAULO (AP) — Heavy rains in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul killed 39 people, with another 68 still missing, the state civil defense agency said Friday, as record-breaking floods devastated cities and forced thousands to leave their homes.

It was the fourth such environmental disaster in a year, following floods in July, September and November 2023 that killed 75 people in total.

The flooding statewide has surpassed that seen during a historic 1941 deluge, according to the Brazilian Geological Service. In some cities, water levels were at their highest since records began nearly 150 years ago, the agency said.

On Thursday, a dam at a hydroelectric plant between the cities of Bento Goncalves and Cotipora partially collapsed and entire cities in the Taquari River valley, like Lajeado and Estrela, were completely overtaken by water. In the town of Feliz, 50 miles (80 kilometers) from the state capital, Porto Alegre, a massively swollen river swept away a bridge that connected it with the neighboring city of Linha Nova.

Operators reported electricity, communications and water cuts across the state. More than 24,000 people had to leave their homes, according to the civil defense agency.

Without internet, telephone service or electricity, residents struggled to provide updates or information to their relatives living in other states. Helicopters flew continually over the cities while stranded families with children awaited rescue on the rooftops.

Isolete Neumann, 58, lives in the city of Lajeado in the Taquari River valley and told The Associated Press she has never before seen a scenario like the one she is now experiencing.

“People were making barricades in front of hospitals with sand and gravel. It felt like a horror movie,” she said by phone. Some people in her region were so desperate, she added, that they threw themselves into the water currents.

Neumann’s own neighborhood wasn’t inundated, but has no running water and she hasn’t showered since Tuesday. She said she’s collecting rainwater in a basin to be able to cook. A clothing store she owns in the city’s central area is flooded, she added.

“I don’t even know how it must be. There must be nothing left.”

The downpour started Monday and is expected to last at least through Saturday, Marcelo Seluchi, chief meteorologist at the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters, told Brazil’s public television network Friday.

On Thursday night, Gov. Eduardo Leite alerted the state’s population — known as gauchos — about the persistence of rains and floods. The situation was expected to worsen in Porto Alegre, he said.

“As a human being, I am devastated inside, just like every gaucho is,” he said. “But as governor, I am here steadfast and I guarantee that we will not falter. We are doing everything with focus, attention, discipline, and outrage, to ensure that everything within our reach is done.”

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva acknowledged the flood victims at a press conference on Friday alongside Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Brasilia .

“The first words from Minister Fumio Kishida in the meeting we held were of solidarity with the people of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, who are victims by one of the largest floods we have ever known. Never before in the history of Brazil had there been such a quantity of rain in one single location,” Lula said.

Weather across South America is affected by the climate phenomenon El Niño , a periodic, naturally occurring event that warms surface waters in the Equatorial Pacific region. In Brazil, El Niño has historically caused droughts in the north and intense rainfall in the south.

This year, the impacts of El Niño have been particularly dramatic, with a historic drought in the Amazon . Scientists say extreme weather is happening more frequently due to human-caused climate change.

Karina Lima, a 36-year-old scientist and PhD candidate in climatology at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, told The Associated Press that the state is located in a region with certain characteristics that amplify El Niño’s destructive potential.

“Models have long predicted that Rio Grande do Sul will continue to see an increase in average annual precipitation and extreme precipitation, meaning more concentrated and severe rainfall,” she said.

Supreme Court sides with music producer in copyright case over sample in Flo Rida hit

The Supreme Court has sided with a music producer in a copyright case, allowing him to seek more than a decade's worth of damages over a sample used in a Flo Rida song

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court sided with a music producer in a copyright case Thursday, allowing him to seek more than a decade's worth of damages over a sample used in a hit Flo Rida song.

The 6-3 decision came in a case filed by Sherman Nealy, who was suing over music used in the 2008 song “In the Ayer,” by the rapper Flo Rida. It also was featured on TV shows like “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Nealy's suit says he didn't know his former collaborator had inked a deal with a record company while he was in prison that allowed the sampling of the song “Jam the Box." He sued in 2018 for damages going back to the song's release.

Copyright law says suits must be filed within three years of the violation, or the point when it's discovered. The record company, Warner Chappell, argued that means Nealy would only be entitled to three years' worth of royalties at most.

The question of how far back damages can go has split appeals courts, and it's one that industry groups like the Recording Industry Association of America called on the Supreme Court to decide.

The opinion handed down Thursday was written by Justice Elena Kagan, and joined by her liberal colleagues Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson as well as conservative justices John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.

“There is no time limit on monetary recovery. So a copyright owner possessing a timely claim is entitled to damages for infringement, no matter when the infringement occurred,” Kagan wrote.

An attorney for Nealy, Wes Earnhardt, said the opinion gives clarity on an important issue.

Three conservative justices dissented. Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote that the majority sidestepped the important question: Whether Nealy's claim was valid to begin with, or whether copyright holders should have to show some kind of fraud in order to sue over older violations. The dissenters said the suit should have been dismissed.

Matt Harmon and Andy Behrens are here to break it all down by each round and crush some staff members in the process.

Post-draft NFL fantasy power rankings: Offenses we love, like and want to stay away from

With free agency and the draft behind us, what 32 teams look like today will likely be what they look like Week 1 and beyond for the 2024 season. Matt Harmon and Scott Pianowski reveal the post-draft fantasy power rankings. The duo break down the rankings in six tiers: Elite offensive ecosystems, teams on the cusp of being complete mixed bag ecosystems, offensive ecosystems with something to prove, offenses that could go either way, and offenses that are best to stay away from in fantasy.

Planes and automobiles: Jacksonville International Airport expanding gates and parking

travel heavy record case

Jacksonville International Airport is heading into the thick of $440 million of construction that will build a new concourse and parking garage as the airport feels the growing pains from record-setting numbers of fliers.

The biggest change will be the addition of a third concourse that will add gates for planes and enable Jacksonville to have more flight choices.

More flights means greater demand for parking that's already squeezed . The Jacksonville Aviation Authority will be building a third parking garage in walking distance of the terminal.

The aviation authority kicked off the construction with a ceremonial ground-breaking Friday morning attended by state Department of Transportation District 2 Secretary Greg Evans, U.S. Rep. Aaron Bean, R-Fernandina Beach, U.S. Rep. John Rutherford, R-Jacksonville, and Mayor Donna Deegan.

"Northeast Florida, put your seats in the upright position, stow those tray tables because with the addition of Concourse B, Jacksonville International Airport is cleared to really take off," Bean told the crowd gathered in the terminal.

Here's what travelers can expect during the construction and after the work is done.

New concourse has been in the works for 16 years

Councourse B will be between existing concourses A and C, which might prompt questions about why the airport doesn't already have a Concourse B.

The airport once had a Concourse B but tore it down in 2009 after the construction of concourses A and C in 2008. The aviation authority has been planning since then to build a new Concourse B between A and C, but the Great Recession of 2008 and the global Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 caused steep drops in air travel and put those plans on hold.

Jacksonville Aviation Authority CEO Mark VanLoh joked that when stormy weather forced the ground-breaking ceremony to move indoors, that was another case of adapting to outside forces.

"We were starting to wonder — look outside — if this program was cursed," VanLoh said.

This time around, construction of the concourse will be happening. The aviation authority got the building permit Wednesday from the city. Construction will occur over the next two years with completion by the end of 2026.

Concourse will add six gates to handle record-setting travel

The two existing concourses have a total of 20 gates. Concourse B will start with six gates. VanLoh said American Airlines, which is the busiest airline at Jacksonville International Airport, will get five of those gates, creating more space for the airport to handle planes during peak times each day.

Deegan said the airport set a record in 2023 with 7.4 million travelers going through it, a 13% increase from 2022. Concourse B as designed will let Jacksonville International Airport move 10 million passengers.

Deegan said the airport landed new nonstop flights to Los Angeles, San Diego and Pittsburgh in 2023 "and we are working hard to finally land that nonstop to London — hope to have that in the pipeline very soon."

"I believe our travel and tourism will only grow from here," she said.

State's investment in airport expansion is its biggest ever for region

The state Department of Transportation is kicking in $54 million for the concourse expansion. It's the largest single investment FDOT has ever made in an aviation project for Northeast Florida, said Evans, who heads the district that covers 18 counties.

In addition to state money for the concourse, a combination of federal grants, passenger facility charges, customer facility charges and the aviation authority's own financing will pay for the new concourse and the parking garage.

The total $340 million tab for the concourse also covers expansion of the security checkpoint that already has been completed in the terminal. That work added more lanes for travelers to go through and installed new screening equipment.

The project also will build a new taxiway and ramp in phase 2 and then the concourse in phase 3. The construction of those phases can overlap.

For travelers, the main impact of the concourse construction is it will force relocation of the food court that is located in the terminal after people pass through the security checkpoint. The aviation authority says it has worked to add other dining options such as Angie's Subs , Chili's, Southern Grounds and Vino Volo to offset the loss of the food court. The authority also will have an alternate site for pet relief since the current pet relief site will make way for construction.

New parking garage will add 2,000 spaces

Construction will start this summer on a $100 million, six-level parking garage that will be built behind the hourly and daily garages. The new garage will be displace some surface parking spaces that are within walking distance of the terminal.

The construction of the parking garage will have more impact on travelers than work on the concourse because parking already hits capacity during heavy travel times.

Air travel surge: Jacksonville International Airport sees record 7.4 million passengers

"Building anything over the top of an existing parking lot is a nightmare," VanLoh said. "We're looking forward to getting it done and providing more spaces."

While the two-year garage construction takes place, the aviation authority is adding other parking options that will bring 1,287 spaces online elsewhere, though most of those won't be in walking distance of the terminal.

The authority is adding 287 spots at Economy Lot No. 1 with an expected completion by July 29. The authority is paving Economy Lot No. 3 so it can handle parking year-round with 800 spaces. It will be open starting Memorial Day weekend and have eight more electric vehicle charging stations.

Finally, the authority says improvements to the valet vehicle storage area will free up 148 parking garages spaces and 53 surface parking spots.

History of Moscow Oblast

The territory of the Moscow region was inhabited more than 20 thousand years ago. In the first millennium AD, this land was inhabited mostly by the Finno-Ugric peoples (Meryane and Meshchera). In the 9th-10th centuries, the Slavs began active development of the region. The population was engaged in hunting, fisheries, agriculture, and cattle breeding.

In the middle of the 12th century, the territory of the present Moscow region became part of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality, the first towns were founded (Volokolamsk in 1135, Moscow in 1147, Zvenigorod in 1152, Dmitrov in 1154). In the first half of the 13th century, the Vladimir-Suzdal principality was conquered by the Mongols.

In the 14th-16th centuries, Moscow principality became the center of unification of Russian lands. The history of the Moscow region is inextricably linked to military events of the Time of Troubles - the siege of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery by the troops of False Dmitry II, the first and second militias.

More historical facts…

In 1708, by decree of Peter the Great, Moskovskaya gubernia (province) was established. It included most of the territory of present Moscow oblast. In 1712, St. Petersburg became the capital of the Russian Empire and the significance of the Moscow region as the country’s economic center began to decrease.

In 1812, the Battle of Borodino took place near Moscow. It was the biggest battle of the Russian-French War of 1812. In the second half of the 19th century, especially after the peasant reform of 1861, the Moscow province experienced economic growth. In 1851, the first railway connected Moscow and St. Petersburg; in 1862 - Nizhny Novgorod.

The population of the Moscow region increased significantly (in 1847 - 1.13 million people, in 1905 - 2.65 million). On the eve of the First World War, Moscow was a city with a population of more than one million people.

In November, 1917, the Soviet power was established in the region. In 1918, the country’s capital was moved from St. Petersburg to Moscow that contributed to economic recovery of the province. In the 1920s-1930s, a lot of churches located near Moscow were closed, a large number of cultural monuments were destroyed. On January 14, 1929, Moscow Oblast was formed.

In 1941-1942, one of the most important battles of the Second World War took place on the territory of the region - the Battle for Moscow. In the postwar years, the growth of economic potential of the region continued; several science cities were founded (Dubna, Troitsk, Pushchino, Chernogolovka).

In the 1990s, the economy of Moscow Oblast experienced a deep crisis. Since the 1990s, due to the motorization of the population and commuting, road traffic situation in the Moscow region significantly deteriorated. Traffic jams have become commonplace.

Moscow Oblast - Features

Moscow Oblast is located in the central part of the East European Plain, in the basin of the rivers of Volga, Oka, Klyazma, Moskva. The region stretches from north to south for 310 km, from west to east - 340 km. It was named after the city of Moscow, which however is not part of the region. Part of the administrative authorities of the region is located in Krasnogorsk.

On the territory of the Moscow region, there are 77 cities and towns, 19 of them have a population of more than 100 thousand people. The largest cities are Balashikha (518,300), Podolsk (309,600), Mytishchi (262,700), Khimky (256,300), Korolyov (225,300), Lubertsy (209,600), Krasnogorsk (174,900), Elektrostal (149,000), Odintsovo (138,900), Kolomna (136,800), Domodedovo (136,100).

The climate is temperate continental. Summers are warm, winters are moderately cold. The average temperature in January is minus 10 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 19 degrees Celsius.

One of the most important features of the local economy is its proximity to Moscow. Some of the cities (Odintsovo, Krasnogorsk, Mytishchi) have become in fact the “sleeping districts” of Moscow. The region is in second place in terms of industrial production among the regions of Russia (after Moscow).

The leading industries are food processing, engineering, chemical, metallurgy, construction. Moscow oblast has one of the largest in Russia scientific and technological complexes. Handicrafts are well developed (Gzhel ceramics, Zhostov trays, Fedoskino lacquered miniatures, toy-making).

Moscow railway hub is the largest in Russia (11 radial directions, 2,700 km of railways, the density of railways is the highest in Russia). There are two large international airports - Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo. Vnukovo airport is used for the flights within the country.

Attractions of Moscow Oblast

Moscow Oblast has more than 6,400 objects of cultural heritage:

  • famous estate complexes,
  • ancient towns with architectural monuments (Vereya, Volokolamsk, Dmitrov, Zaraysk, Zvenigorod, Istra, Kolomna, Sergiev Posad, Serpukhov),
  • churches and monasteries-museums (the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, Joseph-Volokolamsk monastery, Pokrovsky Khotkov monastery, Savvino Storozhevsky monastery, Nikolo Ugresha monastery).

The most famous estate complexes:

  • Arkhangelskoye - a large museum with a rich collection of Western European and Russian art of the 17th-19th centuries,
  • Abramtsevo - a literary and artistic center,
  • Melikhovo - an estate owned by A.P. Chekhov at the end of the 19th century,

  • Muranovo that belonged to the poet F.I. Tyutchev,
  • Shakhmatovo - the estate of the poet Alexander Blok.

The architectural ensemble of the Trinity Sergius Lavra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The largest museum of the Moscow region is located in Serpukhov - Serpukhov Historical and Art Museum.

The places of traditional arts and crafts are the basis of the souvenir industry of Russia:

  • Fedoskino - lacquer miniature painting,
  • Bogorodskoe - traditional manufacture of wooden toys,
  • Gzhel - unique tradition of creating ceramics,
  • Zhostovo - painted metal crafts,
  • Pavlovsky Posad - fabrics with traditional printed pattern.

Some of these settlements have museums dedicated to traditional crafts (for example, a toy museum in Bogorodskoe), as well as centers of learning arts and crafts.

In 2010, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was experiencing memory loss and mental fogginess so severe that a friend grew concerned he might have a brain tumor. Mr. Kennedy said he consulted several of the country’s top neurologists, many of whom had either treated or spoken to his uncle, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, before his death the previous year of brain cancer.

Several doctors noticed a dark spot on the younger Mr. Kennedy’s brain scans and concluded that he had a tumor, he said in a 2012 deposition reviewed by The New York Times. Mr. Kennedy was immediately scheduled for a procedure at Duke University Medical Center by the same surgeon who had operated on his uncle , he said.

While packing for the trip, he said, he received a call from a doctor at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital who had a different opinion: Mr. Kennedy, he believed, had a dead parasite in his head.

The doctor believed that the abnormality seen on his scans “was caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died,” Mr. Kennedy said in the deposition.

Now an independent presidential candidate, the 70-year-old Mr. Kennedy has portrayed his athleticism and relative youth as an advantage over the two oldest people to ever seek the White House: President Biden, 81, and former President Donald J. Trump, 77. Mr. Kennedy has secured a place on the ballots in Utah, Michigan, Hawaii and, his campaign says, California and Delaware. His intensive efforts to gain access in more states could put him in a position to tip the election.

He has gone to lengths to appear hale, skiing with a professional snowboarder and with an Olympic gold medalist who called him a “ripper” as they raced down the mountain. A camera crew was at his side while he lifted weights, shirtless, at an outdoor gym in Venice Beach.

Still, over the years, he has faced serious health issues, some previously undisclosed, including the apparent parasite.

For decades, Mr. Kennedy suffered from atrial fibrillation, a common heartbeat abnormality that increases the risk of stroke or heart failure. He has been hospitalized at least four times for episodes, although in an interview with The Times this winter, he said he had not had an incident in more than a decade and believed the condition had disappeared.

About the same time he learned of the parasite, he said, he was also diagnosed with mercury poisoning, most likely from ingesting too much fish containing the dangerous heavy metal, which can cause serious neurological issues.

“I have cognitive problems, clearly,” he said in the 2012 deposition. “I have short-term memory loss, and I have longer-term memory loss that affects me.”

In the interview with The Times, he said he had recovered from the memory loss and fogginess and had no aftereffects from the parasite, which he said had not required treatment. Asked last week if any of Mr. Kennedy’s health issues could compromise his fitness for the presidency, Stefanie Spear, a spokeswoman for the Kennedy campaign, told The Times, “That is a hilarious suggestion, given the competition.”

The campaign declined to provide his medical records to The Times. Neither President Biden nor Mr. Trump has released medical records in this election cycle. However, the White House put out a six-page health summary for President Biden in February. Mr. Trump released a three-paragraph statement from his doctor in November.

On Wednesday afternoon, hours after this article was published, Mr. Kennedy posted a comment on his X profile. “I offer to eat 5 more brain worms and still beat President Trump and President Biden in a debate,” the post read. “I feel confident in the result even with a six-worm handicap.”

Doctors who have treated parasitic infections and mercury poisoning said both conditions can sometimes permanently damage brain function, but patients also can have temporary symptoms and mount a full recovery.

Some of Mr. Kennedy’s health issues were revealed in the 2012 deposition, which he gave during divorce proceedings from his second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy. At the time, Mr. Kennedy was arguing that his earning power had been diminished by his cognitive struggles.

Mr. Kennedy provided more details, including about the apparent parasite, in the phone interview with The Times, conducted when he was on the cusp of getting on his first state ballot. His campaign declined to answer follow-up questions.

In the days after the 2010 call from NewYork-Presbyterian, Mr. Kennedy said in the interview, he underwent a battery of tests. Scans over many weeks showed no change in the spot on his brain, he said.

Doctors ultimately concluded that the cyst they saw on scans contained the remains of a parasite. Mr. Kennedy said that he did not know the type of parasite or where he might have contracted it, though he suspected it might have been during a trip through South Asia.

Several infectious disease experts and neurosurgeons said in separate interviews with The Times that, based on what Mr. Kennedy described, they believed it was likely a pork tapeworm larva. The doctors have not treated Mr. Kennedy and were speaking generally.

Dr. Clinton White, a professor of infectious diseases at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, said microscopic tapeworm eggs are sticky and easily transferred from one person to another. Once hatched, the larvae can travel in the bloodstream, he said, “and end up in all kinds of tissues.”

Though it is impossible to know, he added that it is unlikely that a parasite would eat a part of the brain, as Mr. Kennedy described. Rather, Dr. White said, it survives on nutrients from the body. Unlike tapeworm larvae in the intestines, those in the brain remain relatively small, about a third of an inch.

Some tapeworm larvae can live in a human brain for years without causing problems. Others can wreak havoc, often when they start to die, which causes inflammation. The most common symptoms are seizures, headaches and dizziness.

There are roughly 2,000 hospitalizations for the condition, known as neurocysticercosis, each year in the United States, according to the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases .

Scott Gardner, curator of the Manter Laboratory for Parasitology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, said that once any worm is in a brain, cells calcify around it. “And you’re going to basically have almost like a tumor that’s there forever. It’s not going to go anywhere.”

Dr. Gardner said it was possible a worm would cause memory loss. However, severe memory loss is more often associated with another health scare Mr. Kennedy said he had at the time: mercury poisoning.

Mr. Kennedy said he was then subsisting on a diet heavy on predatory fish, notably tuna and perch, both known to have elevated mercury levels. In the interview with The Times, he said that he had experienced “severe brain fog” and had trouble retrieving words. Mr. Kennedy, an environmental lawyer who has railed against the dangers of mercury contamination in fish from coal-fired power plants , had his blood tested.

He said the tests showed his mercury levels were 10 times what the Environmental Protection Agency considers safe.

At the time, Mr. Kennedy also was a few years into his crusade against thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative used in some vaccines. He is a longtime vaccine skeptic who has falsely linked childhood inoculations to a rise in autism, as well as to other medical conditions .

In the interview, Mr. Kennedy said he was certain his diet had caused the poisoning. “ I loved tuna fish sandwiches. I ate them all the time,” he said.

The Times described Mr. Kennedy’s symptoms to Elsie Sunderland, an environmental chemist at Harvard who has not spoken to Mr. Kennedy and responded generally about the condition.

She said the mercury levels that Mr. Kennedy described were high, but not surprising for someone consuming that quantity and type of seafood.

Mr. Kennedy said he made changes after these two health scares, including getting more sleep, traveling less and reducing his fish intake.

He also underwent chelation therapy, a treatment that binds to metals in the body so they can be expelled. It is generally given to people contaminated by metals, such as lead and zinc, in industrial accidents. Dr. Sunderland said that when mercury poisoning is clearly diet-related, she would simply recommend that the person stop eating fish. But another doctor who spoke to The Times said she would advise chelation therapy for the levels Mr. Kennedy said he had.

Mr. Kennedy’s heart issue began in college, he said, when it started beating out of sync.

In 2001 he was admitted to a hospital in Seattle while in town to give a speech, according to news reports. He was treated, and released the next day. He was hospitalized at least three additional times between September 2011 and early 2012, including once in Los Angeles, he said in the deposition. On that visit, he said, doctors used a defibrillator to shock his heart to reset the rhythm.

He said in the deposition that stress, caffeine and a lack of sleep triggered the condition. “It feels like there’s a bag of worms in my chest. I can feel immediately when it goes out,” he said.

He also said in the deposition and the interview that he had contracted hepatitis C through intravenous drug use in his youth. He said he had been treated and had no lingering effects from the infection.

Mr. Kennedy has spoken publicly about one other major health condition — spasmodic dysphonia, a neurological disorder that causes his vocal cords to squeeze too close together and explains his hoarse, sometimes strained voice.

He first noticed it when he was 42 years old, he said in the deposition. Mr. Kennedy for years made a significant amount of money giving speeches , and that business fell off as the condition worsened, he said.

He told an interviewer last year that he had recently undergone a procedure available in Japan to implant titanium between his vocal cords to keep them from involuntarily constricting.
