If you are looking to hire a photographer in Paris for a celebration, weddings, elopements, a honeymoon photoshoot, or a brilliant engagement session on the banks of the Seine, or a family portrait in front of Notre Dame, Litvinphoto will make sure your memories are beautiful.
My name is Julia. I have been working as a professional photographer for five years. Photography, for me, is one of the ways to feel this world, understand it and accept it.
My motto is “If photography, then only for love.” And I sincerely love my work, giving it all the fibers of my soul.
Only a photograph can record the passing moments of all that man has created. And even if something has escaped your memory forever, a photo can take you back to when you were happy, laughing, thinking about something, or feeling a little sad. After all, it keeps feelings and emotions in the frame and makes it possible to feel them again. That is why I am so attracted to the art of photography.
I always catch naturalness, freedom, fullness, life at the moment, brightness, and light in the frame. I like photographs that reflect people’s moods, thoughts, and, feelings. If you love, all the same, I think we will understand each other.

An excellent way to explore the beauty of Paris and bring the memories home. Julia is an absolute professional, she took us around the city like a local Parisian photographer, knowing the perfect vantage points for stunning shots of Paris landmarks all while putting his subjects at ease and coaxing out beautiful photos. My boyfriend is not typically a fan of having his photo taken but Julia was patient and full of ideas which made it a fun experience for the both of us. Highly recommend!
James & Kate
Excellent work and fantastic experience! Started with a smooth booking experience even during peak season before the new year, hiring a photographer in Paris went like clockwork. It was easy, with no availability issues. Then came the day we were supposed to meet at the bridge, but it was raining. I contacted Julia asking if we could reschedule. She was very accommodating and suggested a time the next day. The photos came out to be just spectacular! Julia was very professional and gave some poses, making the experience even more enjoyable. Thanks for the fantastic images.
I would highly recommend it!
Robert & Emily
Taking photos with Julia beneath the Eiffel Tower was incredible. She made us feel at ease right away, turning our nerves into excitement. The Tower at night was the perfect romantic setting. Every photo shows our genuine happiness, making that night in Paris a memory we’ll always cherish.
Andrew & Nicole
Getting our photos taken by Julia near the Eiffel Tower was really fun. It was a sunny afternoon, and she knew exactly how to make us smile and feel relaxed. It was like spending time with a friend who takes great photos. Looking at the pictures, I always remember that happy, sunny day in Paris.
Brian & Olivia
Julia took our photos at the Eiffel Tower, and it was such a happy morning. She was so friendly, making us laugh and feel comfortable right away. She was great at catching us just being ourselves, with the tower in the background. These photos are special to me; they bring back the good feelings of that day every time I see them.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do i choose the right professional photographer in paris for my occasion.
Finding the right photographer is about more than just taking pictures. It’s about finding someone who can capture feelings and stories. Check out our various portfolio to feel the way we work. It’s not just about liking what you see; it’s about feeling connected. Your comfort with us is important—we want every moment in front of the camera to feel natural and real.
How to choose a photographer for a holiday?
Any holiday cannot be repeated again, and therefore a photographer must be chosen wisely.
First of all, it is best to refer to the portfolio of a photography master . The style of all his work should inspire you, not just suit your preferences. Answer yourself to the question: Do you dream of the same bright and high-quality photos? If so, feel free to make an appointment.
In addition to the quality of the photo, personal communication with the photographer is important. After all, during a photo session, you should be comfortable with him. As the saying goes, you must be on the same page with him.
How much do my services cost?
We’ve set our prices to be as clear as the sky in Paris. No hidden fees—just simple packages for different needs. Quality, honesty, and value are what guide our prices, all detailed on our “ Services ” page.
We will be at the photo session for the first time. Can you tell us where to look and what poses to take?
Of course, I always talk to my clients when taking pictures. I tell them how to get up, what to do, where to look. While doing this, I have a casual conversation so that clients are not constrained. Thus, the photos are of high quality and natural.
How long before the estimated date of shooting do you need to sign up for it?
The sooner you decide to sign up for a shoot, the more likely it is that I will find the time for it. Of course, some are signing up for tomorrow, and even today. However, the most optimal time is 14 days.
Do I need to make an advance payment?
Yes, I only work on a prepaid basis. To make sure both of us commit and stick to the plan, we ask for a 20% deposit. This secures your spot on our schedule, allowing us to carefully prepare for your unique shoot.
Are all photographs taken during the shoot being processed?
I add color correction to all my good shots. I subject the best and high-quality photos to deep and detailed processing.
In what format do you deliver photos to clients?
It all depends on the preferences of the client himself and the type of shooting. If you can get the pictures over the Internet, I will send you a link to Google Drive or send them in Telegram with a photo in jpeg format. All wedding photos I give on a beautifully designed flash card, which is beautifully engraved.
How many total photos can you get as a result?
The minimum number of pictures taken during one photo session is 40. As a rule, their average number varies from 40-70 frames. In wedding photography, of course, there will be many more.
Do you give your clients raw photographs (originals)?
No, I only upload color-corrected and retouched images to digital media or Google Drive.
Will my photos or photos of my family be included in your portfolio?
Yes, I post some of my favorite pictures on my website in the “ Portfolio ” section . However, I never do this without the permission of the clients.
How long after shooting do you give your photos to clients?
It all depends on the agreement with the client and the type of shooting. Usually I give ready-made pictures from family, love story and individual photo sessions in 7-14 days. If we are talking about wedding photography and a photo album, then you will have to wait about a month.
What equipment do you use for work?
I use a professional Canon EOS R camera and a variety of lenses.
How long have you been doing photography?
As an amateur, I have been doing photography since the age of 14. But as a professional who takes money for his work – since 2018.
Do you know good photo studios in Paris?
Yes, I know Paris photo studios with interesting designs. If you need shots in them, I am happy to recommend you proven places in which I often shoot.
Do you conduct outdoor photo sessions?
Yes, I can go anywhere in the city of Paris and shoot where the client prefers. If you want to shoot outside of Paris, then I take additional transport costs.
Do I conclude a contract with clients for my work?
No, usually, we do not sign a contract for regular types of photography with clients. The only exception is a wedding photo session. But if you want to have a contract for your photoshoot – just tell us it in conversation.

Love From Our Clients
“Capturing wonderful memories of my family in Paris with an amazing photographer was such a joy! From my husband and children, who usually don’t like having their pictures taken, to the breathtaking backdrop of the City of Love, I’m so grateful to have been able to experience this special moment and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.”
I wanted to hire a photographer to capture me proposing to my girlfriend in Paris. I had an idea of where I wanted to propose, but I had never been to the country of France before, let alone the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont. Thankfully, I reached out to Your Paris Photographer. They assigned one of their photographer’s, Nicolas, to take care of me. Not only did Nicolas reach out right away to introduce himself with a plan for the proposal, but he also scouted the location days before and learned that the dome on the hill where I wanted to ask my girlfriend to marry me was closed for reconstruction. Nicolas sent me shots he took all around the park to pick the next best spot, and he also proposed alternative locations that were equally beautiful. Ultimately, we agreed on an angle that put the dome in the background, and the shots turned out spectacular! My fiance and I have not been able to stop looking at all the beautiful photos. Hiring Your Paris Photographer was one of the smartest decisions I ever made and I would highly recommend her to anyone who wants a caring and quality photographer in their corner during their most special moments.

A Photographer’s Guide to Paris
Where to take beautiful pictures in paris.
Paris evokes a feeling of wonder. Avenues exude French character; monuments portray elegance with gothic architecture, not to mention the Parisian rooftops, cafes and gardens.
Photographing Paris is definitely a journey through time and you’ll want to visit famous icons and unique locations to secure the best view possible of this incredible city.
What started out as my top five locations soon developed into more of a guide to the incredible sights and hidden gems you can photograph around the French capital. It’s definitely too hard to narrow this list down any further so be sure to give yourself a few days to explore all that this beautiful city has to offer.
Below you will find a list of the best photography locations in Paris alongside a collection of images I’ve personally taken at each one.
** Paris Photography Location Map: Scroll to the bottom of this guide for a Google Map with a suggested walking route + all Paris photography locations mapped out for your next visit to this gorgeous city. There’s also a handy little section with links to other photogenic regions in France!
eBook Announcement – If you want to skip the ads and download a Paris eBook for photographers straight to your device, I’ve just released my brand new ‘Paris Photography Location Guide’, it’s big, beautiful and filled with over 65+ photography locations, 75 pages, custom maps and self-guided walking tours to follow in my footsteps.
D’accord, allons-y (ok, let’s go!)
Paris photography locations:, #1 basilique du sacré-coeur – panoramic views + sunset.
Overlooking the entire city, the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur offers what is in my opinion, the best view in Paris. Few people realise you can access the top of the dome so at sunset you’ll be sharing with only a handful of visitors who dared to take on the 300 stair climb. The peak of the dome has a narrow walkway that gives you 360degree views, an incredible scene to witness as the sun sets over Paris. Be sure to check closing times before you start the climb as they vary from month to month and sometimes even day to day. View the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur site with further visitor information here .
Paris Photo Tip –
In summer the sun doesn’t set until late in the evening, offering the chance to wander the streets and soak up the beautiful golden light. Plan a route to follow or simply wander back from Montmartre and get wonderfully lost along the way. Read more about tips for photographing in sunset and golden hour her e.
The path around the dome with lots of photo windows to see and capture the city from.
#2 Saint-Michel + The Latin Quarter – Street Scenes + Cafes
For quaint cobbled streets lined with cafes and restaurants that ooze charm, this is the place to wander. You’ll find this area just over the river to the south of Notre Dame. Roam along Rue de la Bûcherie and Rue Saint- Séverin for photographs of traditional Crêperies and street scenes.
Wander from the banks of the Seine towards Tour Montparnasse to pass by a lot of the highlights of Saint-Germain-des-Pres and Left Bank. Read more about my adventures photographing the Left Bank of Paris here .
#3 Montmartre – Artisans + French Character
One of the best places to take pictures in Paris and home to resident creatives and street artists, Montemartre is the epitome of French character. At first glance it might seem like a tourist frenzy but if you venture away from the Place du Tertre (artist square) you’ll find a village like atmosphere with a unique ambience unlike anywhere else in Paris. Have a peek at the cute pink restaurant ‘La Maison Rose’ and the draping vines along Abreuvoir Street then head down to the windmill of Moulin de la Galette on the corner of Rue Lepic and Rue Girardon.
Visiting Montmartre in the early afternoon gives you plenty of time to wander the streets and then enjoy the changing atmosphere as evening approaches. Street photography opportunities are great around lunch time then again once the crowds start appearing for dinner.
#4 Notre Dame Cathedral – Low light interiors and panoramic city views
*Update – Due to the fire inside Notre Dame in April 2019, it’s not possible to currently access this beauty from the inside. You can however still see and photograph Notre Dame from various spots alongside the banks of the Seine River.
One of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, Notre Dame is an essential photo stop in Paris, even if you can’t venture inside. Take advantage of glowing morning light along the Seine and head straight for Pont Saint-Michele where you’ll have a beautiful vantage point toward Notre Dame. The roof and spire at the back of Notre Dame were damaged the most in the fire, however the front towers are still as they were, albeit with a little more scaffolding.
I’ll also mention my description from prior to the fire as I loved visiting Notre Dame and hope that one day, if you haven’t already, you’ll be able to go inside too. The interior is dimly lit offering shadowed arches, intricate detailing and patterned flooring. If you arrive early enough in the day (before 10am) you’ll avoid lengthy queues to climb to the top of the cathedral…an absolute must for a fabulous view! Climbing the narrow staircase to the top is an experience in itself then once you arrive to the open air walkway circling the tower you’ll be greeted with views along the Seine River all the way to the Eiffel Tower. My favourite angle was looking down upon the Parisian rooftops where the Gargoyles sit, such a unique way to view the city! Be warned however it’s very popular and can feel a little rushed due to groups being ushered through to avoid congestion.
Updated image by Google – A current view of the construction at Notre Dame. It’s best to photograph from Pont Saint-Michel for the time being to capture the front facades, compose your image to exclude the cranes/scaffolding and instead photograph Notre Dame with the Seine in the foreground. *Unless you like to document the construction, in which case you’ll find many angles to do this from!
#5 Eiffel Tower – Iconic Scenes + Photo Locations
I’m pretty sure that if you’re going to Paris you want at least one shot of the magical Eiffel Tower, right? Well the great news is you’ll see this mighty icon popping up from different vantage points all over the city. The most popular spot is of course right underneath it or from the gardens of the Champ de Mars but if you’re looking for somewhere different here are a few options…
- Printemps Department Store. Catch the elevator up to the rooftop café and enjoy views over the Parisian roof tops with the Eiffel Tower standing tall behind them.
- Chaillot Hill and the Trocadéro. You definitely won’t be alone here but the view is hard to beat and you can use the Fontaine de Varsovie (Warsaw Fountain) as a great subject to compose your image against the Eiffel Tower.
- The banks of the Seine. Stroll along the river banks to take some unique images of the Eiffel Tower framed with trees, as boats pass by or just a varied city scene from the norm.
Skip the Ticket Queues – Secure your Eiffel Tower Tickets in advance here . If you’re planning to visit other attractions, purchase The Paris Pass prior to arriving, save up to 31% and map out all the museums and attractions you want to visit with the one ticket. Take a peek at the options here .

#6 The Louvre – History + Architecture
As a central landmark in Paris and one of the most inspirating Paris photography locations, the Louvre was originally built as a fortress in the 12 th century. Now the most visited museum in the world housing over 30,000 objects from history, you could spend all day here taking photos and that’s just the interior. Outside are the perfectly landscaped spaces, The Carrousel Garden and The Tuileries. When the weather warms up you’ll find people sharing picnics and soaking up the sun in the gardens creating a great atmosphere! The Cour Carrée is another great photo location within the Louvre complex. This square courtyard was completed by King Louis XIV as part of the ‘Old Louvre’ and is perfect for composing linear angles.
Travel Tip – Purchase ‘Priority Entrance’ for The Louvre and skip the queue which can take up a lot of your day! You can opt to have a professional tour guide, audio guide or wander with your camera and browse at leisure, this ticket just means you save time.
#7 Jardin du Luxembourg – Fountains + Gardens
A green oasis amongst the 6 th arrondissement of Paris, the Jardin du Luxembourg is known for tree lined promenades and chestnut groves. The perfect place to set yourself up for the day to capture lifestyle images and have a picnic at the same time! You’ll also find little sailing boats available for hire to float around in the fountain in front of the Palais du Luxembourg. Fontaine Medicis is nestled in a little corner and is well worth a peek too.
#8 Avenue des Champs-Élysées – Evening Slow Motion Shots
Perhaps the most famous street in the world, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées is bustling throughout the day with shoppers, tourists and locals visiting the stores and offices that reside here. The best time of day to photograph here would be in the evening once the stores have closed and the streets are a little emptier. You’ll find the beautiful Arc de Triomphe sitting pretty at the top of the street waiting to be photographed as the traffic lights glow below. In the middle of the road are pedestrian islands so you can stop and take slow motion shots without worrying about being hit by a car!
#9 The Paris Metro – Murals + Architecture
Underneath the streets of Paris you’ll find creative spaces and tunnels to photograph. Of course not every metro station is picturesque but some are little gems of creativity with murals, themed designs and art nouveau entrances. If you feel like training it around the city take a peek at Arts et Métiers, Saint-Michel, Varenne (Rodin Museum), Concorde (designed as a giant word puzzle), Abbesses and Cité stations.
#10 Marché aux fleurs Reine Elisabeth II
A flower markert on Ile de la Cite – A little oasis just near Notre Dame
Nestled in a quiet square one block away from Notre Dame is the tranquil Marché aux fleurs Reine Elisabeth II market of Paris, one of my favourite Paris photography locations. Here you’ll find what feels like a greenhouse of dreams with so many blooming florals in carefully arranged bunches, it’s hard to believe you’re right in the centre of the city. Little green market stalls link together to form a maze of all things gardening and decor, boy is it photogenic!
#11 Galeries Lafayette Haussmann
Other notable paris photography locations –.
Marché Mouffetard: A narrow street market described by Hemingway as ‘A Moveable Feast’. Colourful fresh food stalls and a vibrant atmosphere!
Place de la Concorde: A main thoroughfare for tourist buses and pedestrians, this is a great place to sit on the stone walls and watch the world go by. Located at the end of the The Tuileries Garden not far from the Louvre, it’s a giant public square decorated with fountains. Side note…you’ll also find THE best public toilet in Paris here at the entrance to the garden. I’m not even joking, you’ll thank me later!
Palace of Versailles: A 40minute train journey out of the city will take you to the Palace of Versailles, an extravagant royal chateau. Have a peek inside here .
Hotel de Ville: The town hall of Paris is home to the city’s administration offices however it’s exterior is far less boring. Looking more like a palace, the Hotel de Ville features a gorgeous Gothic roof and in winter it’s the backdrop to a giant ice skating rink…it looks beautiful lit up in the evening too!
Le Stade Roland Garros: Even if you’re not in town for the French Open in May, Roland Garros is a great day trip for tennis fans like me! You can get lucky and see a tournament or take a tour behind the scenes. Catch the Metro to Porte d’Auteuil and wander the lovely area and parks too!
St Etienne du Mont: An impressive Gothic church with unique details such as stone spiral staircases and giant stained glass window panels…light and airy.
Galeries Vivienne: A hidden little arcade off Rue Des Petits Champs filled with character.
Roland Garros…tennis fans get yourself here!

Where to Stay in Paris
When covering numerous Paris photography locations, there are of course thousands of hotels, apartments and boutique properties to choose between depending on which areas suit you best. For me, there’s one spot I love to stay when photographing Paris. Right near the Eiffel Tower. Not only because this iconic beauty is right outside the window, but because you’re close to the Seine and a short walk from some of the most beautiful areas in the city.
Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel – If you are looking for somewhere fabulous to stay in Paris that doesn’t break the budget BUT offers views of the Eiffel Tower from your room I’ve found just the place! The Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel is not only a funky and really comfortable hotel but it’s located one block from the Eiffel Tower! From your room you can watch as the tower sparkles before you drift off to sleep, only to wake and watch the sunrise glow behind the French icon. Because I only list places I’ve personally stayed, be sure to ask for room #1031, #1131 or #1211 for the best views of the Eiffel Tower! To check room rates visit – Mercure Paris Central Tour Eiffel
Take a peek at the view from the room…
Take me with you: Maps to Paris Photography Locations
Map: diy paris photo walk.
Start your walking tour in Saint-Michel then walk to all of the major sites of Paris, ending at the Luxembourg Gardens. This walk takes over 4hours without photo stops or going into museums etc, so I highly recommend breaking it up into a few days! If you are short on time, jump on the metro to zip between locations easily.
Map: Paris Photography Locations
Now if you’re more into catching the metro or choosing which locations you want to see, here is a map to all of the photography locations listed below in this guide. You should be able to click open this map and add your own locations, or create a customised walking tour. By clicking the ‘add directions’ button on the map it will bring up a Point A + Point B to work out directions for driving or public transport.

Wow – I have seen a lot of photos of Paris, and these are among the most wanderlust inspiring. Thank you for the route, the tips, and most of all the beauty 🙂

Oh my gosh! Your photographs are simply stunning! I’m so inspired.

I will going to Paris next month and planning to shoot the Eiffel Tower from afar. The Basiliquedu ‘3oo stairs up’ like you mentioned seems like a very good vantage point.
However, I’m a photographer who kinds of afraid of heights 🙂 When you mentioned narrow walkaway, does it mean the stairs are narrow from the beginning to the top or only from the dome area to the top?
Please advise. Thank you in advance 🙂

Great to hear from you! Exciting news you’re visiting Paris soon. The Basilica is probably (in my opinion) one of the more fear of height friendly vantage points. It feels super secure at the top and there’s actually a walkway around the dome that has a thick stone/marble? barrier the entire way that’s about chest height so you never feel like you’re about to fall over the edge and always have something strong to hold onto. The staircase up is narrow and enclosed so if you’re a bit claustrophobic this would be the only issue 🙂 From memory there is one section about half way up where the staircase is on the exterior of the basilica but again, it has the stone barrier to hold onto. Have fun!! Tag your photos with #thewanderinglens if you use Instagram so I can have a look 🙂

Is there any chance you can share this map via google? This is an excellant resource and would like to add some items to this.
I have used your map during my vists to my office and would like to build on it.
January 25, 2017 at 4:42 am
Hi Robert, I’m glad the map is of use for your time in Paris! The map should open up in Google when you click ‘view larger’? I’ve just added a second map that simply lists all of the locations noted in the guide, rather than a set walking path. The direct link to the Google map is https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ln1f9rlgO5l93XL-KnTlk7Qx1QM&usp=sharing hopefully you are able to open this up, add your own places and use the directions tab. Access is set to public so hopefully it works 🙂

Great guide Lisa!
By far the most popular place to take photos of the Eiffel Tower is from Trocadero (on the lines 6 or 9). But beware that not all hours of the day or all spots here are good to take photos with the Eiffel Tower, because you will often get a lot of people in the background or even walking in front of your photos.
Also, if you take photos just on the lookout platform, you will probably get a shot where the person is dark and the Eiffel Tower in the background is super bright.
I found this to post to give you the best time and exact spots at Trocadero for pictures of the Eiffel Tower: http://www.ofleatherandlace.com/best-time-and-spots-to-take-photos-with-eiffel-tower-from-trocadero/
April 26, 2017 at 9:28 pm
Thanks for sharing Tina! Yes Trocadero is the most popular but like you’ve mentioned, it can get a bit overwhelming with the crowds and to be honest isn’t my favourite place. I must prefer the view from further afar where the Eiffel Tower looks all moody in the late afternoon haze. That said, any view of the Eiffel Tower is a good view and it’s absolutely worth testing them all 😉

I love how warm your photos are! they make me SO nostalgic for Paris one of my favourite cities in the world. I’ve been a few times in the summer/winter, but never in Spring so that’s next on my list. I wouldn’t be able to resist those incredible blooms. Amazing post!

Thanks so much Christina! Spring is such a gorgeous time to visit Paris, even better if you’ve been before because you can dedicate all your time to simply wandering and chasing blossoms!
June 23, 2017 at 5:17 am
Canal St Martin is in my opinion the most beautiful and photogenic part of Paris! There is a wonderful film that captures that beauty, it is called ‘Amelie’ (my daughter is named after her).
March 6, 2018 at 11:13 am
Oh what a wonderful tribute! I love the movie Amelie also, and it’s a beautiful name 🙂

I’m going to Paris soon and would like to download the “map: Paris Photo Walk” how do I do that? Photos are great! Thanks.
March 6, 2018 at 11:14 am
Hi Marshall, if you’re reading the article on your phone you should be able to open the map and it switches to Google maps so it’s accessible for you.
May 23, 2018 at 9:07 am
Excellent! Heading to London, Paris, Cologne and Zurich next months with my 4 kids. I’m mapping out walking trips. You had some points that weren’t on my map already. Thank you!
So, I’m second guessing carrying around thousands of dollars worth of camera gear but I know I’ll be upset if I didn’t. What gear did you take? What precautions did you take?
June 2, 2018 at 5:33 pm
That’s so great to hear! I hope you have a wonderful trip 🙂 it’s a beautiful time of year to visit Europe! I always have my gear with me and it’s just a matter of being wary and keeping it close, I’ve never had any issues with theft. If you’re feeling a bit funny about it, wear your backpack on the front so it can’t be unzipped from behind. Also sometimes when I travel alone I carry a camera handbag, it’s big enough to fit my camera + lens but doesn’t look like it’s got expensive gear inside!

awesome suggestion. thanks for the sharing. useful information.
March 16, 2019 at 1:50 pm
Hi, Lisa. I´ve been checking your blog and really liked your pictures. I was checking the ones from the Sacre Coeur Dome and wanted to ask you how did you get to take them. I looked at the opening hours during the whole year, and I can see it is never open at sunrise. Do you have to ask for special permission or any type of authorization? Thanks in advance!
March 18, 2019 at 12:16 pm
Hi Martin, lovely to hear you’ve been enjoying my website! The images captured from the top of the Sacre Coeur were taken at sunset and at certain times of the year you’ll find the opening hours actually coincide with sunset. It’s best to head up to the top about an hour or more before sunset to capture the golden hour (which is what you see in my images), the stairwell closes roughly 30minutes before closing but always check this beforehand as times do change regularly!

Big Thank You, Vincent , for creating such an insanely awesome video for Zoë (my daughter). We wanted to surprise Zoë with an unforgettable gift for her 12th birthday. The idea was to capture on film Zoë’s passion for dance, acting, and TikTok. And, WOW, did you deliver—from minute one! We can’t stop watching the video. And, I don’t seem to be the only one gushing: the feedback from friends and family is beyond, and Zoë’s classmates are already asking who made the film. Merci! Vittorio Manta

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary. Paris is the perfect spot to celebrate something romantic.
As to your question, it usually doesn’t rain much in Paris and it snows even less. If the weather conditions are impossible, then we try to reschedule your shoot to a spot that is convenient for you and for us. That being said, we are a photography studio with 5 artists right now and we always find a solution in case we have to accommodate a last minute change.
We are really looking forward to take your anniversary pictures in Paris!

My name is Mario Davila and my wife and I are hoping to find a photographer who can take some pictures of us at the Eiffel Tower while we are in Paris for our honeymoon. Ideally, we would like to have some early morning photographs at the Place du Trocadéro on Sept 2 or 3. From what we have seen online, the background of photographs at the Eiffel Tower often look overexposed or colorless when taken later, while sunrise pictures look quite beautiful at sunrise.
Would you be available in the morning on either 2 or 3? Sept 3 would be best. If you are available, can you tell us your price for a mini/short photoshoot at 1 or 2 Eiffel Tower locations?
Thank you! Mario and Janeth
Hi Mario, Janeth,
congratulations on your honeymoon in Paris. Talk about the best place to spend your first trip as a married couple.
Yes, sunrise is the best time to take gorgeous photos with the Eiffel Tower and we would be honoured to help you capture magical souvenirs for you.

Hugs and can’t wait to meet you two in Paris ! Fran

10 Best Photo Locations in Paris
You can also select your interests for free access to our premium training:
Paris is one of the world’s most picturesque, romantic and photographed cities. It’s a city that really doesn’t disappoint the camera lens , and there are many landmarks for you to turn your attention to. Paris photography is a lot of fun, and after reading this guide you’ll be ready to go!
10. Paris Photography: Capturing the Eiffel Tower
The chance to see the Eiffel Tower is a big reason why many people make the trip to Paris. But when it comes to photographing it, there’s something you should know. If you plan on using the photos commercially or posting them anywhere online, you can only photograph the Tower during the day. Night photography of the Eiffel Tower is protected by copyright . But where is the best place to photograph the tower from? Let’s take a look, though bear in mind there are lots of viewpoints for the tower throughout the city.
- The base of the tower – You’ll need a wide angle lens to make the most of viewpoints here, and you’ll be aiming to get detailed photos of the structure.
- From the tower – You can ascend the tower, and take photos of the views it offers over the city.
- The Trocadero – This is one of the best locations for Eiffel Tower photography. Wake up early to capture the tower against the pavement slabs in the foreground. Or use the fountain as a leading line up to the tower.
- Champ de Mars – This is the park that leads up to the Eiffel tower. You can find it on the opposite side from the Trocadero. Keep in mind that the park is often very busy.
Photographing the Eiffel Tower at Night
The majority of photographers enjoy taking photos at night. But with the Eiffel Tower you can only do this at night. This is because the illuminations are considered a separate work of art and are still under copyright. Copyright belongs to the artist throughout their lifetime and 70 years after that. The copyright on the tower itself has expired, but the lights were only installed in 1985. Best time to visit – To avoid the crowds go for sunrise . Though under copyright, the tower is beautiful when illuminated during blue hour . Location – The Eiffel Tower
9. Champs Elysee and Arc de Triomphe
8. The Louvre
7. Notre-Dame de Paris
Standing on the Île de la Cité in central Paris is Notre Dame. This is another great place to stop and take photos of Paris. It’s worth arriving early to beat the crowds, though that statement is true for most locations in Paris.
- The facade – The front of Notre Dame is a great subject. There’s an area of open space in front of it so there are a few different compositions you can attempt.
- From the tower – The top of the tower offers a nice view over the Seine, and you can compose elements of the Cathedral in the foreground of your photo with a landscape of Paris in the background. Arrive early to avoid the cues, and go straight up the tower.
- The interior – The interior of most religious buildings is photogenic, and the Notre-Dame is no exception. Look for detail photos of the stained glass windows, candle racks, and interesting architecture . Use a wide angle lens to capture a wide scene of the roof, or the central chapel area of the cathedral.
- The bank of the Seine – There are excellent viewpoints of the back end of the cathedral from the south side of the river, or the bridge crossing the river. Arrive either in the morning with the sun behind you, at sunset, or during the blue hour for the best photographic conditions.
6. La Defense
5. Basilique du Sacre-Coeur
4. Montmartre and Moulin Rouge
Montmartre is the hill that leads up to Sacre-Coeur, and is a great area to photograph all on its own. The cobblestone streets and attractive shops offer a nice ambience to enjoy, even if you’re not photographing. These elements are great for street photography though. They offer an image of Paris romanticized by street photographers of previous generations. It’s worth visiting here after dark. The street lights add even more mood to the area. This is also where you can find the Moulin Rouge cabaret. It’s an excellent subject for photography especially in the evening. The famous windmill on the front of this building can be photographed with a long exposure, to give the image a more dynamic feel.

Paris Photography Instagram Ideas
There are plenty of places around Paris to take your Instagram worthy self portraits , and other photos. Here are a few ideas you might like to try out.
- Musee d’Orsay clock – This a great place to try some silhouette portraiture, to really give your Instagram feed something different.
- Jim Morrison’s Tomb – Those interested in pop culture should visit the tomb.
- The Sinking House – On the slopes of Montmartre as you climb towards Sacre Coueur, you’ll find a slope that gives rise to an optical illusion . Compose the photo so the house appears to sink into the ground.
After reading this article you should be well prepared for your Paris photography trip. Pack that wide angle lens, a decent prime lens and a telephoto to get the most out of your time in the French capital. Keep in mind Paris offers other great photo opportunities than the ten listed here. You might want to check out Jardin du Luxembourg or make the trip out to Versailles. And don’t forget to indulge in some food photography while there too. Have you ever photographed in Paris before? We’d love to hear about that experience, and see the photos you took in the comments section! Looking for more inspiration? Check out our new post about travel photography blogs next!

“This was my third Flytographer experience, and I couldn’t be happier. The last two were on vacation in Rome and Nashville, and this one was in Los Angeles, where we live. The photographers have been top notch every time — they were fun to work with, made us all feel comfortable, and the resulting photos are phenomenal.”

“Erin was incredible to work with from start to finish. She gave great direction to our not always so photogenic group and we were left with photos that I will treasure forever! We felt relaxed the entire time, going into it my dad didn't know what to expect but he even commented how much fun he had. That's coming from a guy who is typically reluctant to family photo sessions.”

How to Photograph Paris
February 21, 2023 18 Comments »
Home » Blog » Destinations » Europe » France » How to Photograph Paris
I’ve been to Paris multiple times, and each time I find new inspiration. It’s one of my favorite cities to photograph, and I know I’m not alone. I’ve developed a few tricks on how to photograph Paris so that I can bring home unique photos of the most photographed Paris sites.
Before I share my tips, first you have to figure out what and where you want to photograph in Paris.
Table of Contents
Best Photo Spots in Paris
The easy answer here is just to walk down any street and you’ll find some great photo spots. But if you want to hit some of the popular sites as well as find some unique spots, here are some of my favorites I have found in my various trips to Paris.
Pere LaChais Cemetery
Visiting a foreign cemetery may seem strange, but Pere LaChais Cemetery is more like a park; gorgeous landscaping, rolling hills, interesting tombstones, and famous people were put to rest there. Plus, I find cemeteries intriguing, they are one of my favorite things to photograph. I think a cemetery can tell you about a culture and history of an area. For this reason, I often seek out cemeteries to visit as I travel – I call it cemetery travel! Regardless, Pere LaChais is truly beautiful to photograph.
View all Pere LaChaise Cemetery photography
Sacre Coeur
It’s quite a climb if you choose to go up the steps, but it’s worth it. This is a beautiful church to photograph at all angles. Make sure you try different perspectives and keep in mind the rules of composition such as the rule of thirds that take your vacation pictures to the next level !
Montmartre Neighborhood
This artistic neighborhood is full of color and a gem to photograph. This is a great stop to make after you photograph Sacre Coeur, just wander the streets. Make sure you capture the details of the neighborhood
In all of the times I’ve been to Paris, I’ve never set foot inside the Louvre Museum! I always get stopped by all of the great photos there are to take outside around the gardens. Take a seat in the park by one of the large fountain pools and soak up Paris – it’s a great place to find unique shots.
I.M. Pei’s controversial pyramid at the Louvre entrance will test your photography skills. It’s a super place to look for reflections, leading lines, and unique perspectives. It’s also a great place for night photography and a tripod.
A popular spot to photograph in Paris, but my favorite time to go there is at night when you can capture it in a different light and without the crowds. After the heartbreaking fire and the loss of the spire, it is being rebuilt. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has slowed restoration work. You aren’t allowed to go inside currently , but you can still photograph the grounds.
Not only is it fun to photograph the old Art Noveau Metropolitan signs all over the city, it’s also fun to photograph the metro stations. The architecture in the station is always great to capture.
Tip – If you are going to take images of people though, be sure to ask their permission.
Paris Chocolate Shops
Take a walk through the small Paris neighborhood of Saint Germain des Pres to photograph something really unique…and tasty…chocolate! This neighborhood is home to a number of famous chocolatiers. Stop in and photograph some of the best Paris chocolate shops and their creations. The best part of this photo assignment is you can taste chocolate along the way!
Tip – make sure you ask permission to take photographs in the stores.
If you want to learn more about the chocolatiers, check out this Paris chocolate tour that will take you inside the best chocolate houses!
Pompidou Centre
I may have never been to the Louvre, but I do go inside the Pompidou Center. I love contemporary art, and there’s so much to photograph here. Plus, they say the best view of Paris is from the Pompidou Centre!
Arc de Triomphe
A beautiful building to photograph if you can get to it; it’s surrounded by lanes of busy traffic! To safely reach the monument you can follow the underground passageway on the Champs-Elysées that comes up at the base of the Arc de Triomphe.
3 Tips on How to Photograph Paris
1. get up early.
If you want to catch Paris at its best, get up early – really early. I was up before the sun to get to sunrise at Sacre Coeur and it was so worth it. There were no people, and the light was incredible. After the sunrise and photos of the city from high up at Sacre Coeur, I walked through the Montmartre neighborhood before anyone was awake. I was able to see the cafes open up, artists set up their canvases, and the residents wake up. It was a wonderful time to catch the character of this neighborhood – or any neighborhood in Paris!
2. Play Metro Roulette
One of my favorite things to do in Paris is play metro roulette. This is when I ride a metro line for ways, get off randomly and then walk through neighborhoods on the outskirts of Paris. It’s a way to find unique parts of Paris that aren’t as frequently photographed.
3. Bring a Wide Angle Lens
It’s no secret that I love my wide angle lens . It’s an important lens to have in your arsenal when photographing Paris because a wide angle lens is super for capturing city streets and architecture. Very few cameras can get a complete shot of the iconic buildings of Paris while standing on a street corner – that’s where the wide angle comes in.
Learn how to photograph other iconic places like the Taj Mahal
Best Eiffel Tower Picture Ideas
You might notice that I didn’t mention the Eiffel Tower above in the best photo spots in Paris. Instead, I decided to write about this iconic photography spot separately.
Pay Attention to Leading Lines
Capture it in Different Weather
Capture it at Night
Put Something in the Foreground
Focus on Things People Don’t Notice
One of my favorite days photographing Paris was when I decided to not focus on the tower, and instead focus on the people around me. Sometimes I like to focus on the things that go unnoticed or photographed – the ugly side of something beautiful. I was fascinated by the culture around the tower rather than the tower itself. Photography is about telling stories and as I looked around at all of the people and the men illegally selling the little tower trinkets, I realized that there was a story there.
In this Eiffel Tower photo documentary, I was able to capture the life of the illegal street vendors around the tower selling miniature versions of the iconic building. I was able to capture a different side of the Eiffel Tower – one people normally don’t photograph!
Will the Real Eiffel Tower Please Stand Up Photo Documentary
Everyone around me was taking pictures of the Eiffel Tower , but I was distracted by the thousands of other Eiffel Towers and the touts carrying them. From the first moment I went to the Eiffel Tower, I seemed to be more fascinated by the culture around the tower rather than the tower itself.
There are illegal street vendors everywhere peddling their touristy trinkets; it’s a fact of travel. I’ve learned to ignore them and brush them off, but this time I decided to really try to look deeper at the tout culture through photography.
Men of all ages (never women) were carrying mini Eiffel Towers around the grounds flashing the shiny objects appealing to the children while enticing them with their volume discounts. Much to the parent’s dismay, shiny objects seem to capture the interest of children, and therefore the question “Can I have one????” was overheard many times as I walked around the park near the Eiffel Tower.
There were different selling techniques, some brought out a square cloth and placed it on the ground like a tablecloth and set up the shiny mini towers in an orderly fashion from big to small, and from silver to gold. Some simply had all of the mini towers on a big metal ‘ring’ and would dangle them around and gain attention by the sound of clinking cheap metal floating through the air. Some simply stood in one place and called out their volume price discounts. And some went directly up to people like door-to-door salesmen selling Encyclopedias.
I watched as kids walked away with their shiny new objects satiated for a few moments before wanting something else. I saw the mini towers break and kids cry not understanding that 1 Euro meant no guarantees and certainly no returns or exchanges.
Finally, I watched as the mini tower vendors scatter in all different directions like a herd of elk being chased by a lion when the police descended upon the Trocadero.
Things You Can’t Photograph in Paris
I found out that one of the things you definitely can’t photograph in Paris – is cabaret shows! I wanted to experience that classic Paris cabaret culture and went to the Paradis Latin Cabaret Show . It was flashy, colorful, and fun – something I would normally like to photograph. But sadly, all photography at this Paris cabaret was off-limits!
Camera Gear for Photographing Paris
Carrying less travel photography gear has made me a better photographer. It makes me pay more attention to composition and working with the light I have, rather than all of the other bells and whistles. I carry a Sony mirrorless camera because it’s a little lighter if I’m going to be out photographing Paris all day.
You can see my normal photography gear and lenses I carry when I travel . And if you are going to be out walking around all day, a good camera bag is necessary. These are my favorite camera bags for travel .
Where to Stay in Paris
I love staying in holiday apartments when I’m in Paris. I found one that I love which is in a perfect location to get to many of the popular photography spots in Paris. This Paris holiday apartment is nestled in the heart of Paris near the Seine, Pompidou, Notre Dame, Louvre, cafes, shops, bars, and metro stops. You can learn more about this cute Paris studio apartment here .

Sherry, As always your pictures are amazing! The clouds are so dramatic and I like your unusual angles. I’m hoping to take a photography class when I get back home to better master settings on my camera 🙂

When are you going? It was lovely being back there without any major agenda – but to simply walk around and enjoy the city! Have a great trip!
By Gray September 30, 2010 - 8:08 pm
I’m going in mid-November. It probably won’t be the nicest weather, but who cares–it’s Paris!
By Mark H September 30, 2010 - 5:05 pm
Just superb. I love the close-ups of the artist’s palette (so French with the little sign), the Pere Lachaise cemetery and the sharp angles of the familiar Parisian landmarks. As good as you find in any coffee table book on Paris…
By admin September 30, 2010 - 7:55 pm
Mark – thanks for the kind words! One day a coffee table book may be in my future!! 🙂

Great pics! Just wondering about your gear, how did you decide what lens(es) to bring with you?
For city shooting I like to take my wide angle lens (10 to 20) – it really is great to capture the scene – and it’s especially great for making the clouds take shape and practically pop out of the picture. It’s actually my new favorite lens! I also take my every day lens which is my best quality and is 17 to 55. Quite frankly though – on a day like that in Paris – where my main goal was photography – I took all 3 of my lenses. I’m used to carrying the equipment and I like to have the variety!
