Tour de France 2024 stages

This year’s Tour de France kicks off in Italy with three stages starting in Florence then traveling through Emilia-Romagna from Rimini in the east via Bologna to Turin. The first two are packed with climbs so expect attacking riding then the third is a nailed on sprint finish as there is barely a lump on the 230km between Plaisance and Turin.

On day four the race then hits the mountains and to start with the route climbs 40 km due west though the ski resort of Sestrieres but only on a pitch of 3.7%, then after this takes on the short climb over the Col de Montgenèvre to cross into France. The final climb is the mighty Col du Galibier, however it’s the ‘easy’ side from Briançon that the riders face before the rapid descent to the finish in Valloire.

That’s it for the first visit to the Alps as the race next heads into two sprint days, stage 5 from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Saint-Vulbas and then the featureless stage 6 from Macon to Dijon.

Stage even will likely see the first serious GC action on the 25.3km flat time trial from Nuits-saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin. The TT specialists will also be up for this one as with little to no elevation it’s just about as pure a time trial course as you could plot.

The 183km stage 8 from Semur-en-Auxois to Colombey-les-Deux-Églises is fairly lumpy and will tempt breaks but the sprinters team should be able to control things if they pay attention.

Stage 9 is one all the riders will have been dreading as it contains the unpredictable madness of dirt roads with a total of 15 sectors across the 199km. Starting and finishing in Troyes there are also four small climbs to contend with but it’s the unmade surfaces that will present the most danger.

After the stress of stage 9 Monday is the first race day of the race then the action resumes on Tuesday with a pan flat 187km from Orléans to Saint-Amand-Montrond.

On Wednesday things spice up with a day of small yet steep climbs on stage 11 in the Massif Central, the highlight and high point of which is the fantastic Pas de Peyrol but then it’s back to the flat for stage 12 between Aurillac and Villeneuve-sur-Lot and stage 13 from Agen to Pau.

Pau is nicknamed the gateway to the Pyrenees and that it is as stage 14 heads right into the mountains to cross the one and only Col du Tourmalet, the Hourquette d’Ancizan to then finish at Pla d’Adet. This first summit finish will have been worth the wait and will likely be the most decisive stage of the whole the week. Right after that comes another brutal Pyrenean day with four first category climbs on stage 15 before the second summit finish in two days on top of the Plateau de Beille.

Following this comes the second rest day then it’s time for the final week, and what a final week. Stage 16 from Gruissan to Nimes is easy enough then stage 17 to Superdevoluy crossing the Col du Noyer and stage 18 to Barcelonnette will certainly push the riders but its the next two that are killer.

Stage 19 from Embrun to the summit finish at Isola 2000 crosses both the Col de Vars and the giant Cime de la Bonette, which at 2,802 meters is the highest paved road in France and although only 144km-long gains a huge 4,400m of altitude.

Then the penultimate stage, stage 20 is shorter still at 132km and gains even more elevation with a whopping 4600m to be climbed. Starting in Nice and finishing on top of the Col de la Couillole it ticks off 1 second category and 3 first category climbs along the way.

To finish the race, in place of the usual sprint in Paris to avoid clashing with the Olympics there is a 23.5km time trial into Nice. This is the first time the race has finished with a time trial since 1989, could it throw up as much drama?

Today at the Tour de France

On another stage littered with wicked climbs under the baking Italian sun it was the breakaway who had their day once again. Launching the fatal blow on the second ascent of the climb to the San Luca Basilica it was Frenchman Kévin Vauquelin (Arkea B+B) who was victorious.

Behind in the group of favourites Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) couldn’t resist launching an attack and towards the summit of the final climb to the Basilica he exploded from the pack taking one man, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) with him. The two worked together and although only taking a handful of seconds from the other contenders it put Pogačar in the Yellow jersey.

The third stage from Piacenza to Torino is thankfully flat so the race can relax and the sprinters can fight out the finish.

Tour de france 2024 sStage 3

What happened to Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaard?

If it wasn’t for the fateful events of April 5th at the Tour of the Basque Country we would have been building up to a very different looking Tour de France in 2024, but the horrendous crash that saw not one but two of the favourites end up in hospital changed the whole season in seconds. With both Remco Evenepoel (Soudal–Quick-Step) and two time winner and defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) sustaining multiple fractures it was a doubt they would see any more action this year.

They have however both recovered enough to be on the start line but far from the condition they would have liked to be in, especially when they are trying to beat a Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) who seemingly won the Giro without breaking sweat.

Evenepoel tested his form in the Critérium du Dauphiné where he convincingly won the time trial but he suffered in the mountains, especially when the gradient went into double figures. Vingegaards’ form though is a total mystery as he’s been kept at altitude away from racing but the team have said he would not be on the start line unless they thought he could win.

Vingegaard has been uncertain to start due to injury, but the expectation is that he will return to the saddle in time for the Grand Depart.

The Tour de France kicked off on Sunday, June 29 in Florence, Italy with a ridiculously challenging start to the 2024 edition.

After three days of racing the yellow jersey has changed hands three times with Romain Bardet (Team dsm-firmenich PostNL) after stage 1, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) after stage 2, and Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) now leads the Tour de France overall standings after stage 3.

Carapaz earned the coveted race lead on countback stage placings after he placed considerably better than his nearest rivals in the GC standings: Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates), Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike), and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep), who all started the stage equal on time in the GC standings.

The four riders also remain on equal time heading into stage 4.

The race reaches French soil on stage 4 with the first high mountain stage and the highest point of the Tour de France on the Col du Galibier. It's an extremely early entry into the Alps for the race and the first major test for all of the GC contenders.

Stage 5 is more normal territory for the first week of the Tour de France, with a 177.4km stage from Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Saint-Vulbas Plaine de l'Ain with just two category 4 climbs and another flat finish for the sprinters.

Stage 6 marks a 163.5km race from Mâcon to Dijon, and should be another day for the sprinters, where the fight for the green points jersey will start to take shape.

Tour de France 2024 start time, TV channel and FREE live stream today

The 2024 Tour de France gets underway today, with Tadej Pogacar the strong favourite to claim victory for a third time.

Italy will host the Grand Depart for the first time as riders set out from Florence to Rimini on the Adriatic coast.

The next two stages, through the iconic racetrack Imola then the cities of Bologna and Turin, then give way to the traditional mountain climbs across the Alps as the Tour heads into France for the bulk of the 21 stages.

Heading north to Troyes, the route then swings through the Massif Central and Pyrenees mountains.

A final dart around the Alps will lead to the first-ever finish outside of Paris, due to the summer Olympics, as Nice takes centre stage instead of the Champs Elysees for the crowning of the winner.

Tour de France 2024 start time

The Grand Depart will get underway at 11am BST on Saturday, July 29, 2024. Each stage’s start time through the race will vary slightly.

Belgium's Philipsen marks fourth win at Tour de France with stage 11 victory

Belgian Jasper Philipsen sprinted to his fourth stage win on this year's Tour de France with a powerful last burst on stage 11 from Clermont-Ferrand to Moulins.

Issued on: 12/07/2023 - 17:44 Modified: 12/07/2023 - 18:07

The Alpecin sprinter edged Dutch rider Dylan Groenewegen to the line on Wednesday with Phil Bauhaus in third. There was no change in the overall standings between race favourites Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar.

Philipsen has dominated the bunch sprints on the 2023 Tour although two of his three previous triumphs were garnered with some wobbly manoeuvres that had to be validated by the race commissaire.

In the final sprint during his first win at Bayonne he appeared to swerve in front of Wout Van Aert.

He then won out after a series of falls at the Nogaro motorbike circuit.

On the banks of the Garonne at Bordeaux for his third stage win he also appeared to cut off the path for Biniam Girmay, who waved his arms in anger before Philipsen was again cleared.

Philipsen leads the sprint points race by 145 points, with Frenchman Bryan Coquard second on 178.

Race leader Vingegaard and second-placed Pogacar remain separated by just 17 seconds, with Australian rider Jai Hindley in third at 2min 40sec.

About The 2024 Tour de France Cycling Race

The 2024 Tour de France looks a little different this year, but that doesn’t mean it will be any easier over cyclists over 21 grueling stages. This year, the 2,170-mile, 23-day race will start in Florence, Italy, as Paris remains busy getting set for the Olympics and it will end in Nice on the Côte d’Azur. Defending two-time winner Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark and two-time champion and 2022 and 2023 runner-up Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia are expected to be yellow jersey frontrunners. If you’re looking for Americans to cheer for, keep an eye out for Matteo Jorgenson, Neilson Powless, and Sean Quinn, who took home the 2024 U.S. National Road Race Championship.

Tour de France 2024: Full schedule, stages, route, length, TV channel & live stream

The Tour de France is here for 2024.

The iconic cycling event is a test of physical and mental endurance, with riders tackling long distances and challenging routes over three weeks.

Reigning Giro d'Italia champion and two-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar is the clear favourite for 2024, and deservedly so.

However, last year's victor Jonas Vingegaard is fighting to defend his crown, recovering in time from a nasty crash in April, which saw him break his collarbone and ribs and suffer a collapsed lung.

MORE: When does the Tour de France start?

The Sporting News brings you the key details for this year's race.

How to watch the Tour de France: TV channel, live stream

USA:  NBC Sports holds the broadcast rights, with all stages available via streaming platforms Peacock and Fubo . Stages eight, 14 and 20 will be broadcast live on NBC.

UK:  The Tour de France will be live on Discovery+ and Eurosport. It will also be shown on free-to-air channel ITV 4 and streaming service ITV X. S4C will air the action in Wales.

  • Australia:  Once again, SBS has exclusive free-to-air and digital broadcast rights. Fans can watch the action on SBS' TV channel and stream via SBS On Demand.

Tour de France 2024 schedule, route, stages, start times

As has become tradition, the 'Grand Depart' was held outside of France, with Stage 1 beginning in the Italian city of Florence.

Riders will make their way into France by Stage 4 where they will stay for the remainder of the Tour (aside from a finale in Monaco).

A few flat stages will follow, with the sprinters set to battle it out in frantic finishes.

The focus will turn to the general classification in the back half of the Tour, with three mountain stages on either side of the second rest day.

An individual time trial from Monaco to Nice will cap off this year's race.

This ultra-thin, multi-directional Mohu Leaf Supreme Pro digital antenna with a 65-mile range can receive hundreds of HD TV channels, including ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox and Univision, and can filter out cellular and FM signals. Best Tour de France TV plans

A Peacock subscription is the best way to watch the Tour de France. Starting at $5.99 a month, the streaming service provides live and on-demand access to every stage of the men’s and women’s races. You’ll also get daily pre- and post-race studio coverage during the men’s competition, plus race highlights and rider interviews. During the 2024 race, episodes of Lance Armstrong’s THEMOVE podcast will also be available for on-demand access via Peacock.

If you’re only interested in Le Tour, you can cancel your Peacock subscription after the final stage. Otherwise, the service’s cycling coverage doesn’t stop there. Peacock hosts the Liège–Bastogne–Liège, Critérium du Dauphiné, Vuelta a España, and Paris Tours. It’s also home to the Paris Olympics , which features road race and track cycling events days after the Tour de France ends.

Fan verdict: At CableTV.com, we’ll be watching the 2024 Tour de France on Peacock because it’s the only platform in the U.S. that provides live coverage of every stage. This exclusivity is crucial for dedicated fans who want to experience the race in its entirety. Peacock also offers the advantage of full-stage replays, which is especially important because of the race’s early start times.

Which TV providers carry the Tour de France?

Besides Peacock, most TV services carry Tour de France coverage via NBC. Our table below illustrates which popular providers offer the two channels.

How can I watch the Tour de France for free?

† CableTV.com utilizes paid Amazon links. Amazon.com Price; $39.99 (as of 6/20/24 10:45 a.m. CT). Read full disclaimer .

The most convenient way to watch the Tour de France for free is by using an over-the-air (OTA) antenna to pick up your local NBC station. Unfortunately, NBC doesn’t show a lot of race coverage—only three Saturday presentations. But it never hurts having an antenna in your TV setup.

If you don’t have an antenna, most cost between $20.00 and $60.00. We recommend the Mohu Leaf 50 for its 60-mile range and slim design. But you’ll want to verify the distance of your nearest NBC station by entering your zip code into the Federal Communications Commission’s Reception Map Tool . That’ll help determine if you need a more robust antenna, which we feature on our Best OTA Antennas page.

Can I stream the Tour de France for free? You can watch select Tour de France stages for free using a live TV streaming trial . Otherwise, you can also catch free race recaps on NBC Sports’ YouTube channel .

How to watch the Tour de France FAQ

Can you watch the tour de france on nbc.

Yes, some Tour de France coverage airs on NBC. But you’ll want a Peacock Premium subscription to watch every stage from start to finish.

How can I watch today’s Tour de France stage?

If today’s date is between June 29 and July 21, you can watch the current Tour de France stage live and on demand via Peacock . Check out our complete Tour de France 2024 schedule for race start times and channel listings.

Does Peacock include the Tour de France world feed?

No, Peacock won’t stream the 2024 Tour de France world feed. While the service carried the world feed in 2023, subscribers will only get NBC Sports-produced coverage in 2024. That means you’re stuck with play-by-play caller Phil Liggett, analyst Bob Roll, and reporters Steve Porino and Christian Vande Velde. You can work around this by using a VPN set to Canada and signing up for FloBikes, which features Eurosport’s coverage with commentators Anthony McCrossan and Nicolas Roche.

Is every cycling Grand Tour race on NBC?

No, not every race in the Grand Tour of Cycling airs on NBC. While NBC Sports channels and platforms televise the Tour de France and Vuelta a España, the Giro d’Italia streams on Max’s  B/R Sports Add-On .

What cycling events are on Peacock?

Popular cycling events featured on Peacock include the Tour de France, Vuelta a España , and Olympic cycling . Other major UCI World Tour races like the Giro d’Italia, Milan–San Remo, and Tour of Flanders stream on services like FloBikes and Max’s B/R Sports Add-On .

Is there an official Tour de France app?

Yes, you can heighten your Tour de France viewing experience by downloading the official mobile app on your Android or iOS device. The app comes with course maps, real-time stats, and live commentary.

The Tour de France, the most iconic cycling race of all time, is back for its 111th venture. We've put together everything you need to know about how to watch the Tour de France, including free live streaming options from around the world.

Contrary to its name, the race kicked off this year in Florence and will coast around Italy for a few stages before heading into France for the majority of the contest. The competition is spread across 23 days, with 21 different race stages and two Mondays for rest. The race will conclude on July 21 in Nice, France. The winner is determined as the cyclist with the shortest combined times across the entirety of the race.

Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard won the 2022 and 2023 races and will return to defend his title following a massive crash in April that left him hospitalized for several days. Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, who won the 2020 and 2021 Tour de France, is Vingegaard's main competition heading into the race this year. In May, Pogacar won the Giro d'Italia, the first of the annual Grand Tour races, by a shocking, almost 10-minute margin. The last component of the Grand Tour, the Vuelta a España, will take place from August 17 to September 8.

Keep reading to learn all of the ways you can live stream the Tour de France, no matter where you are in the world. Plus, we'll keep updating this page with daily start times for each leg of the race.

How to Watch the Tour de France 2024

The most anticipated cycling event in the world is back. Tag along and tune in to see all the action on Peacock.

Key art of cyclists for the Tour de France

The thrill of the ride is upon us once more. Cycling’s greatest event is back – the 2024 Tour de France begins Saturday, June 29. With a start in Italy and a finish in Nice, this year is unlike any other. Follow your favorite cyclists as they undertake grueling hills, long days, and tests of endurance as they move through the European countryside on their way to the finish line. Ride along and catch all 21 day-long stages of the Tour LIVE on Peacock.

What Is the Tour de France?

The Tour de France is a massive bike race that takes cyclists on a three-week journey through France. With the exact route changing every year, this is a unique challenge unlike anything else on the cycling calendar. The race is broken up into stages, with each day covering a certain portion of the route. Each stage has its own winner, and the winner of the entire event is the person who has the fastest time of all 21 stages. Every stage matters. Even winning one, even if the rider doesn’t win the tournament, will boost that rider’s standing significantly. Only the absolute best, most competitive riders make it into the Tour de France, so tensions are high for the right to win the coveted yellow jersey.

This year’s event challenges 176 riders. 22 teams of 8 riders will travel across 3,498 km of road, hill, and mountain terrain.  Riding for hours each day, the cyclists are put to the ultimate test as they try to have the lowest time and pass their fellow competitors, scaling mountains and gliding on roads in the process. While the course is always different and a new challenge for the riders, this year’s course is unprecedented. The Tour completely skips Paris – typically the finish line is located on the Champs-Elysées – and kicks off in Florence, Italy. With twelve new locations along the route and four countries total, this may be the best Tour de France yet.

What’s Different About This Year?

With the 2024 Summer Olympics beginning July 26 in Paris, the tour is having a few changes. The race avoids Paris entirely and will have its grand finale in the beautiful French Riveria. The race will travel through four countries – France, Italy, San Marino, and Monaco – and feature ten new locations along the way. Four mountain ranges will be visited – the Apennines, the Italian and French Alps, the Massif Central, and the Pyrenees – and 52,230m of total vertical gain. Rather than a sprint for the final stage, this year’s Tour de France Stage 21 will be a time trial for the first time since 1989.

Some athletes will finish the race and only have a few days rest before gearing up to represent their country in cycling at the Paris Olympics beginning July 27. France is in the world’s eye this summer and the Tour de France is sure to bring the action.

Which Cyclists Should I Look Out For?

Two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard (Denmark) is a must- watch. Will he be able to go for three? He’s a likely favorite but not the only one. Tadej Pogačar (Slovenia) won in 2020 and 2021 and placed second in 2022 and 2023. The two will likely battle it out for the entirety of the 2024 edition, making a thrilling spectacle all fans will enjoy.

But don’t count others out! Remco Evenepoel (Belgium) is debuting at the 2024 Tour de France and a young up-and-comer to watch at 23 -years old. Another possible rising star is Canada’s Derek Gee. A few American riders will be in the mix, including Neilson Powless, Sean Quinn, and Matteo Jorgenson. Brothers Simon and Adam Yates (United Kingdom) will compete for different teams. France’s David Gaudu and Ecuador’s Richard Carapaz may also create a stir. Anything could happen, and all of these cyclists will give it their all the entire Tour.

Who will cycle to victory at the 2024 Tour de France? With so many changes and new additions, along with the backdrop of the Olympics as another opportunity to impress on the world stage, this is the race to watch.

One day after the Tour de France made its first Grand Départ from Italy in the history of the race, Stage 2 of the race continued through Italy and ended in Bologna.

French rider Kevin Vauquelin won the day in Stage 2, making it back-to-back days with a French rider winning the stage. Vauquelin's win also brought his team – Arkéa - B&B Hotels – its first stage victory at the Tour de France in 11 tries at the race.

Unlike with Stage 1 , which saw nearly 50 riders finishing within five seconds of the leader, Vauquelin finished Stage 2 nearly 40 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor, Norwegian cyclist Jonas Abrahamsen .

A quelle heure débute France-Belgique?
