Here’s what you need to know about the ‘Hot Wheels Legends Tour’ stop in Gilbert

GILBERT, AZ — The ‘ Hot Wheels Legends Tour ’ will make a stop in the Valley this weekend. That means the next Hot Wheels could be in Arizona!

“For decades, Phoenix has played host to some incredibly prestigious auctions and automotive events,” said Ted Wu, Vice President, Global Head of Design for Vehicles at Mattel , in a press release sent to ABC15. “As one of the most rapidly growing cities in the country with an ever-expanding and diverse car enthusiast community, we expect to see an extremely unique mix of vehicles – one of which could be the next Hot Wheels Legends Tour winner.”

At each tour stop, judges will select one vehicle to be a finalist in the competition. According to event officials, the winner of the Arizona tour stop “will move on in the competition for a chance at the Global Grand Finale" in November.

The finalists will then compete side-by-side in November where one will be selected as the winner and "will have their car inducted into the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends and immortalized as an official Hot Wheels 1:64 die-cast.”

Your car needs three things to win and have it “immortalized” as a Hotwheels; it needs authenticity, originality and garage spirit .

2023 Hot Wheels Legends Tour will visit 17 countries in search of custom cars

Its first u.s. stop is in miami on may 13.

Hot Wheels has announced preliminary details about the 2023 Legends Tour, a worldwide quest to find some of the coolest custom cars and pick one to turn into a 1/64-scale model. This year's edition of the annual event will start in May and travel across 17 countries.

America is one of the bastions of custom-car culture, so it's not surprising to see nine events taking place in the United States on the 2023 calendar. The first is scheduled to take place on May 13 in Miami, Florida. It will be hosted in a Walmart parking lot, which is where previous in-person events have been held, and it's not just a competition; it's also a massive car show . The full American calendar is as follows:

• May 13 : Miami, Florida
• May 20 : Charlotte, North Carolina
• May 27 : Atlanta, Georgia
• June 10 : Detroit, Michigan
• June 24 : Chicago, Illinois
• September 9 : Dallas, Texas
• September 23 : Phoenix, Arizona
• October 7 : El Segundo, California

The other Legends Tour stops are overseas. There's notably a stop in France, which is an odd choice as even basic engine swaps are illegal there, and another in neighboring Italy . The global calendar hasn't been released yet, but last year's edition included entrants from as far as New Zealand. The winner, a 1992 Autozam Scrum turned into a monster truck (pictured), was built by Craig Meaux in Beaumont, Texas. In 2021, the judges selected a Chevrolet V8-powered 1969 Volvo P1800 gasser owned by England-based Lee Johnstone as the winner .

"More than 10,000 incredible cars were entered in last year's Hot Wheels Legends Tour, and this year we're expecting even more as the Tour continues to grow. Not only are there more countries participating, but we expect each city to bring even more custom builds this year, making 2023 the most competitive Legends Tour yet," said Ted Wu, the vice president and global head of design for Mattel.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--( BUSINESS WIRE )--Kicking off on May 13 in Miami, the 2023 Hot Wheels Legends Tour presented by Mobil 1 is back and bigger than ever with live, interactive shows across 17 countries. Beginning today, custom car builders around the world can enter for a chance to have their passion projects reimagined in 1:64-scale as the next Hot Wheels Garage of Legends inductee. Now in its sixth year, the Hot Wheels Legends Tour offers enthusiasts and garage warriors the opportunity to have their custom car creations forever immortalized and celebrated by fans around the world.

The Hot Wheels Legends Tour continues to grow, including new additions France and Italy, making this year's tour the largest in Hot Wheels history. The United States will host nine regional events across the country, which culminate in the Mobil 1 Rally and Legends Fest on October 7 at the brand’s headquarters in El Segundo, CA. As in past years, both the Global Semi Final on November 2 and the Global Grand Finale on November 11 will be presented virtually, so fans around the world can tune in to watch as the 2023 champion is crowned.

Each stop will include activities for fans of all ages including a Power Wheels® racing track, RC Races, a preview of the new Hot Wheels™ Rift Rally and play spaces where kids can interact with the latest toys from Hot Wheels. The regional events, Global Semi Final and Global Grand Finale will be streamed on Hot Wheels social media channels, so Hot Wheels fans and automotive enthusiasts around the world can join in on the tour.

Global Hot Wheels Legends Tour comes to Dallas

The Global Hot Wheels Legends Tour is rolling through Dallas and in search of its next fan-created custom car.

The tour is free to attend and will be held at Walmart Supercenter in North Richland Hills from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Sep. 9.

Celebrating its sixth year, the car show will showcase local custom car builder’s designs that are competing for the opportunity to have their design turned into the next Hot Wheels die-cast toy car.

The cars will be judged on creativity, authenticity and garage spirit. The winner will be chosen to compete in the global semifinals later this year.

There will be over 100 unique cars including full-sized Hot Wheels Grage of Legends cars. Fans can also explore the Power Wheels® racing track, RC Races, a preview of the new Hot Wheels™ Rift Rally and play spaces where kids can interact with the latest toys from Hot Wheels.

The competition was founded in 2018 to celebrate the brand’s 50 th anniversary. The Hot Wheels Legends Tour started as a series of car shows hosted at Walmart locations around the United States. Since then, the competition has grown internationally to include 17 countries.

Dylan Thomas is a Welsh poet and writer famous for " Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night ,” “Under Milk Wood” and “Fern Hill.” Thomas was born in 1914 and died in 1953.

Patti Smith is a famous poet, author, songwriter, singer and painter born in 1947. Her Instagram bio reads, “Writer. We are all alive together.” Smith is still an active writer. She did a book signing in New York City Thursday morning.

'Tortured Poets' release live updates: Taylor Swift's new album has dropped

The Chelsea Hotel (or Hotel Chelsea or The Chelsea) is in Manhattan. Built in the late 19th century, the 12-story hotel is a New York designated landmark that has famously housed writers, painters, authors and the who’s who of fashionable socialites. And still does.

Stephanie Burt, a Harvard professor who teaches a class on Swift, explained the layers of the lyric.

“Swift is not only telling (the guy in the song), you're not that talented,” Burt says. “She's saying, let's not be the kind of artists who make our self-destructive, tortured natures central to our art, which invites everyone to look at what a mess we are.”

Both Smith and Thomas lived in the hotel. According to John Brinnin's 1955 biography, “Dylan Thomas in America,” Thomas was reputed to be a "roistering, drunken and doomed poet." Smith went on to produce albums and tour the world. She sang and performed with Bruce Springsteen . 

“Patti Smith is who you invoke if you want to talk about a woman onstage who is absolutely magnetic and a poet with a capital ‘P,’” Burt says. “Dylan Thomas is who you invoke if you want to talk about a romantic, self destructive poet who had the talent to back it up, but had absolutely no self-care skills who made everything too much.”

Swift is saying let’s not be self-destructive artists and let’s leave that to the “modern idiots.”

'The Tortured Poets Department'

If you didn't get the memo from the department's Chairman, "Tortured Poets" is Swift's 11th era album with 16 tracks and four bonus songs (four versions of the album each have a different bonus track).

Swift announced the project at the Grammys, when she won her 13th career Grammy for pop album of the year. Post Malone and Florence and The Machine  are two contributors on the pop album.

Its track titles are brutal. Fans speculated the album was about Swift’s six-year relationship with English actor Joe Alwyn and their breakup. Both stars kept the relationship out of the public eye. The back of the first version of the album reads, “I love you, it’s ruining me,” serving as a dagger-to-the-chest harbinger.

The album was released during Swift's two-month break from her massively popular and economically fruitful Eras Tour . "Tortured Poets" serves as an exclamation point to the behemoth success the billionaire has seen over the past year since the three-plus-hour show launched in Glendale, Arizona. Swift will return to the stage in Paris, France, on May 9. Fans anticipate that her newest era will be added to the show.

Maybe, maybe not. They had some international stops on the tour last year. What for the schedule to be released. 

Damn, was looking forward to scoring that  Firebird too. Legends tour wasn't anywhere near here last time, so i guess I"ll have to rely on those friendly resellers to get one!
