This revolutionary Minor League road trip salutes General George Washington

Josh Jackson

Josh Jackson

Because there's no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than getting out to a ballgame, earlier in the week we presented a breakdown of must-catch Minor League games with Independence Day celebrations, with one entry for each farm system.

But let's say you're not satisfied with one Independence Day game. Let's say you're the kind of freedom-loving American (or global citizen) who needs a full-fledged Minor League road trip with intermittent stops at key sites of George Washington's Revolutionary War campaign?

  • Ballpark Guides for EVERY Minor League team »

Fear not! Find herein an itinerary presented by Wyndham that takes you to seven Minor League ballparks with options to check out (at least) six such monuments or battlefields.

While robust, this plan contains neither every Washingtonian stop one could make nor every Minor League ballpark that's near important Revolutionary War-related sites. You can take what's here and adapt it to meet your logistical needs, or use it as a jumping off point to plan your own thematically related itinerary that may be quite different.

It is, after all, a free country.

History on the Hudson

Hudson valley renegades.

Heritage Financial Park 1500 Rt 9D Wappingers Falls, NY 12590 845-838-0094

Start your journey a stone's throw from West Point, a post which General Washington considered paramount. A short jaunt up the river, catch the Hudson Valley Renegades, High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. Their Heritage Financial Park is home to the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame. Ballpark Guide »

Next stops: If you didn't pop into the West Point Museum before the game, do so on our way to Fort Lee Historic Park , where Washington and the Continental Army began the "retreat to victory" in the autumn of 1776 and where you can check out a reconstructed encampment.

Fort Lee Historic Park is a park in Fort Lee, NJ with scenic overlooks, a reconstructed Revolutionary War encampment, and Visitor Center. The grounds are open during daylight hours + the visitor’s center is open Wednesday - Sunday from 10 AM to 4:45 PM https://t.co/hUWpBOxXeU pic.twitter.com/2iKT2Sj1V7 — Journey Through Jersey (@JourneythruNJ) August 8, 2021

From there, take the George Washington Bridge en route to the The Old Stone House and Washington Park , where you can learn all about the Battle of Brooklyn.

Maimonides Park 1904 Surf Ave Brooklyn, NY 11224 (718) 449-8497

Coney Island, USA, is surely the kind of All-American destination Washington and his fellow founding fathers had in mind when they got behind the idea of "the pursuit of happiness." And the Mets' High-A affiliate plays at one of the most electric environments in the Minors. Ballpark Guide »

MiLB's most patriotic?

Somerset patriots.

TD Bank Ballpark 1 Patriots Park Bridgewater Township, New Jersey, 08807 (908) 252-0700

The Yankees' Double-A affiliate gets its very name from General Washington and his cohort, as the Patriots' home of TD Bank Ballpark is a couple miles from the Washington Camp Ground , or Middlebrook Encampment, as it was known when (as some conglomeration of history and legend has it) the first American flag was unfurled in June of 1777. At the ballgame, mingle with fans who've been rooting for the Somerset team for over 25 years, dating back to when the Patriots were in an (ahem) independent league. Ballpark Guide »

Next stop: From the Patriots' park (or the Washington Camp Ground), it's a quick trip to the Monmouth Battle Monument outside of the Monmouth County Superior Court. This 90-plus-foot monument commemorates the June 28, 1778 Battle of Monmouth, in which Washington led a charge that, after a long day in triple-digit heat, resulted in the British fleeing the area under the cover of night.

Coca-Cola Park 1050 IronPigs Way Allentown, PA 18109 610-841-PIGS (7447)

If this itinerary weren't focused on Minor League parks, you'd now head for a Phillies game in the city that served as the nation's capital for the bulk of George Washington's presidency, but it is, and so we're ticketed for beautiful Coca-Cola Park, home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia's Triple-A affiliate). Ballpark Guide »

FirstEnergy Stadium 1900 Centre Ave. Reading, PA 19605 (610) 375-8469

Marrying a classic, smalltown ballpark feeling to the wacky, fun, exciting atmosphere that makes Minor League baseball so widely beloved today, the home of the Double-A Fightin Phils is sure to be a favorite with any fan. Ballpark Guide »

Next stops: Departing from FirstEnergy Stadium, you're only about 45 minutes from Valley Forge National Historical Park , the site where General Washington and the Continental Army spent the winter of '77-78 while the British occupied Philadelphia.

Red, white and Blue Rocks

Frawley Stadium 801 Shipyard Drive Wilmington, DE 19801 (301) 777-5772

A fitting conclusion to this trip is a visit to an affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks get their name from the blue granite found along the Brandywine River, and the city was occupied by the British after the Battle of Brandywine. If remembering the ultimate outcome of the Revolution doesn't wash off the Brandywine defeat, cheering for the Blue Rocks will. Where do Floridians go to escape summer heat? 10 Florida day trips to help you stay cool

The heat of Florida’s summers can sometimes make outdoor activities like hiking or the beach unpleasant.

If you’re looking for a way to have fun and stay cool, Florida’s many freshwater springs or an indoor adventure might be your best bet.

Here’s a roundup of 10 fun things to do in Florida that you can make a day trip out of and will keep you cool in the summer heat.

Where do Floridians go to escape the summer heat?

Of course, where you go to beat the heat depends on who you are and what you prefer. But many Floridians head for Florida’s freshwater springs when the ocean water starts getting warmer in the middle of the summer.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Here’s a list of 10 places where beating the Florida heat can be fun, from Northwest Florida, to the Southeast coast.

North and Central Florida:

  • Caverns State Park , near Tallahassee: There are tons of caves in Florida, but most of them are full of water, making them unenjoyable to explore for people who aren’t willing to don diving gear and get into some higher-level spelunking. Florida Caverns State Park is unique because its geographical positioning (an elevation of 180 feet) makes it possible for regular tourists — or Floridians looking to beat the heat — to enjoy a cave tour without taking a swim. There are very few state parks with dry caves in Florida and Florida Caverns State Park is the only one that offers cave tours to the public, according to Visit Florida .
  • Admission to Ichetucknee Springs is $6 for a vehicle of up to eight people, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle or motorcycle and $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists.
  • Admission to Ginnie Springs is $15-$20 for each adult ticket, depending on the time of year. Tickets for children ages 5 through 12 are $5 each and kids 4 and under get in free.
  • Admission to Devil’s Den requires an online reservation and costs $18 per person from Monday through Friday and $25 on weekends and holidays. You can bring your own snorkeling gear or rent some at Devil’s Den, but a mask, snorkel and fins are required to explore the spring.
  • It’s free to park and enter Dezerland. Each attraction is individually priced and prices for each activity range from around $15 to around $50.
  • Visiting the Kennedy Space Center for one day costs $75 for adults and kids ages 12 and up and $65 for kids ages 3 through 11.

Southeast and Southwest Florida:

  • Children under the age of 3 are not allowed to swim in the pool. Admission to the Venetian Pool is $22 for adults and kids ages 13 and older and is $17 for kids ages 3 through 12.
  • Visiting Weeki Wachee State Park is $13 for adults, $8 for kids ages 6 through 12. Kids ages 5 and under get free admission.
  • The price for admission to The Florida Aquarium can vary by a few dollars from day-to-day. It usually costs around $40 for adults and $35 for kids.

Enjoy one of Florida’s many waterparks! No matter where you live in Florida, there’s probably a waterpark close enough to you to spend the day. And you don’t have to spend as much as you would at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon or Universal’s Volcano Bay.

In Jacksonville, there’s Adventure Landing’s Shipwreck Island waterpark . Panama City Beach has a waterpark by the same name , complete with a fake wrecked ship in a pool that you can zipline into. Rapids Water Park in Riviera Beach is a 30-acre water park with more than 40 slides and attractions and the park just added a new slide this year, called “Mega Mayhem.” And Florida is welcoming its first Great Wolf Lodge in 2024 , which will bring a huge indoor waterpark to the Naples area.

Eating Las Vegas: A visit to the Sphere and Bazaar Meat by José Andrés a rare treat

warangal day trip

LAS VEGAS — I visited this city Father’s Day weekend with two goals: 1) Experience Dead & Company with childhood friends at the Sphere. 2) Get in one great dinner.

With regard to aim #1: Mission accomplished. If you ever have the chance to visit the Sphere, the new globe-shaped multisensory venue connected to the Venetian, do it. You'll be in for the most immersive audio-visual experience of your life and a memory that should last a lifetime.

We sat stage right in section 303, which is about halfway up the back of the globe, making our height perfect to take in the toes-to-back-of-head visuals. Mind blown.

Any awestruck account you've read is accurate. The changing “screens,” a term which does not do justice to the visual display, encompass you in a panoramic snow globe. One minute you’re flying through time and space, moving into historic venues like Barton Hall at Ithaca College (site of one of the Grateful Dead’s most famous gigs in 1977), and next, the walls break open and the band is sitting on the banks of a mythical sea.

The venue has hosted U2, Phish and Dead & Company, and I imagine it’s awe-inspiring production will even be able to make future visitors The Eagles visually compelling.

As for that meal …

Most of my trips involve complicated dining schedules with multiple stops each day (and sometimes each meal), but I arrived Saturday afternoon and left Monday morning, which really allowed time for one centerpiece meal. (Sunday brunch felt like a waste.)

I had Sunday night to myself and wanted another memorable experience. Spanish-born American chef and restauranteur José Andrés knows how to deliver those, as do the well-oiled teams of service professionals at his dozens of restaurants around the country. And, there was an Austin connection.

Austinite Rob Wilder is the co-founder of the José Andrés Group — formerly Think Food Group — which he founded with the chef after running the popular Tex-Mex restaurant, Austin Grill, in Washington D.C., a restaurant I frequented during my days at American University.

Wilder, who for 25 years sat on the board of Amy’s Ice Creams, which he helped open in 1984, is also the co-founder and Chairman of the World Central Kitchen, the organization he and Andrés created to aid communities suffering from natural and man-made disasters.

I figured by dining at one of their restaurants, I was in some small way supporting the world-changing mission of those men and their team. But, there was also a simpler reason. Andrés first earned fame for his cooking, so when the opportunity presented itself to try Bazaar Meat by José Andrés for the first time, I jumped.

The Spanish chef is known for his playfulness and creativity, along with his care for top-notch ingredients. It's all on display at Bazaar Meat, his modern take on the steakhouse located at the north end of the Strip at the Sahara hotel and casino.

I eschewed the two tasting menu options to create my own adventure, which began with a tiny cone of creamy roe-dotted salmon and a quintet of buttery tuna slices draped across toasty puff pastries the kitchen calls pillows that are stuffed with a spicy tuna mixture.

Dishes like this might be considered anachronisms if they weren't executed to such perfection. The textures and flavors were a beautiful contrast, and I was left stunned that a pastry department can turn out that many pillows and all taste fresh from the oven with each bite.

Andrés was at the vanguard of modernist cuisine, and his cotton candy foie gras is an example of his whimsical style. Cold slabs of rich foie terrine are speared with a corn nut inside a cloud of cotton candy. Diners are encouraged to take down the suspended tornado in one bite, and the wisps of cotton candy collapse and melt into the lush foie. Gimmicky? To the haters. I ordered a second.

The massive dining room, with its antler chandeliers and open kitchen, is home to several impressive grills from American Grillworks and America's first Josper oven. The cases in front of the grilling stage also showcase some beautiful cuts of beef from around the world, from Texas to Japan, but I chose a rack of lamb for my entrée. Good call from this diner who'd not had a great lamb dish in at least a year.

The tender medallions resting at the edge of the bone sat in a lamb gastrique enriched with the earthy sweetness of figs. I paired that with the big, deep rounded fruit of a 2012 Bosconia from Spanish producer López de Heredia and took my sweet time. That time was imbued by the kind of professional service, measured but warm, that you expect from Vegas in general and an Andrés restaurant specifically.

Las Vegas is a dizzying Disneyland of all types of excess and the dining options are seemingly limitless. If you want a sure bet next time you're in Sin City, journey north up the Strip and visit Bazaar Meat by José Andrés. It's been going strong for a decade with good reason.

90 Day Fiancé: Loren and Alexei Brovarnik's trip to Israel faces safety issues

90 Day Fiancé star Loren Brovarnik and her husband Alexei Brovarnik recently went on a trip to Israel. Loren shared updates about visiting her hometown with her fans through Instagram. She shared along with one of the posts:

"No better than feeling than being home. Am Israel Chai."

However, she also shared various safety issues they faced. Loren explained how things have been in Israel, and because of that, they had to change their travel plans. She added that they didn't bring their kids on the trip due to these concerns.

Loren and her husband wanted to visit many popular spots, but they couldn't explore all the places according to their plans. She also shared that it was important for them to come and visit her family in Israel.

90 Day Fiancé : Why Loren and Alexei Brovarnik are in Israel

Loren and Alexei's relationship started in Israel. However, she lived in Florida at the time, and met Alexei, who is a Ukrainian, when she went to her hometown. They decided to be together after falling in love on 90 Day Fiancé .

At the time, Alexei was working as a medic. Soon, he moved to the United States to live with Loren.

Since both of them share a close bond with Israel, they decided to move back home after a few years. They want their children to stay connected with their cultural roots and heritage. Keeping their moving plans postponed, for now, earlier this month, the couple flew to Israel.

Loren shared the news with her 90 Day Fiancé fans via Instagram. Later on, Alexei also shared the trip details through his Instagram. He shared a post, tagging his wife, and captioned it:

"48 hours in."

However, their trip didn't go as planned. Loren shared through Instagram stories that they couldn't entirely explore the spiritual city of Tzfat, also popularly known as Safed.

"Unfortunately, though, tourism basically has closed down there because of everything happening up north."

She also shared further stories and mentioned how rockets and sirens around the place have affected their recent trip to Israel.

90 Day Fiancé : Loren and Alexei Brovarnik's journey throughout the franchise

Loren Brovarnik and Alexei Brovarnik married in 90 Day Fiancé season 3. After they appeared on TLC's dating reality show, they became one of the most popular couples. The two had many differences; however, despite various challenges throughout their relationship, they have been together.

While Alexei works as a warehouse manager, Loren used to work as an executive administrative assistant.

In 2020, they welcomed their first child, Shai Josef, and they later had two more children, Asher Noah and Ariel Raya.

The couple have also been part of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 8. During the eighth season, they shared how they navigated their lives and more about their plans.

Loren also opened up about her decision to go under tummy tuck and fat transfer surgeries, which are also known as a Mommy Makeover.

Lauren's reason behind the surgery was that she wasn't happy with her looks, especially her physique, after three deliveries. She had three babies in under three years. At first, Alexie didn't agree with Loren's decision; however, later on, he came around.
