Wildlife Tour Packages

Munnar wildlife tour packages.

You take in the mesmerising view of the endless hills and the turbulent waterfalls as you hike up a path and breathe in the smell of tea hanging in the air, mixed with a hint of petrichor thanks to the monsoon rains lightly pouring down. Your eyes and ears are alert to a faint croak or a chirp, or even perhaps a rustle in the bushes as a Large-Scaled  Pit Viper slithers by.

You hear a screech in the distance, possibly the Crested Serpent Eagle flying close. At that moment you realise that perhaps the snake in the bushes was escaping for its life.

Nestled at the confluence of three gushing rivers – Mudrapuzha , Nallathanbi and Kundala and bordered by the towering Western Ghats , Munnar literally means three rivers. The tea estates make up the rolling hills and valleys, the lush greenery all around you touches the horizon as you stand there, tiny as an insect in the vastness, camera in the ready, looking for that perfect shot.

Such is the breathtaking view of Munnar, often referred to as the ‘ Kashmir of South India ’. And what we offer here is not the cliche touristy attractions, infact we offer a fantastic variety of Munnar wildlife tour packages or Munnar Photo Tours .

Your entire stay in this beautiful hill station is at one of the most enchanting estates called Windermere Estate . It takes you to a different time and a place giving you a truly magical experience. Pleasant temperatures, the aroma of tea or coffee wafting in the air, a vantage point overlooking the Ghats, and excellent food to boot is everything the Windermere Estates has to offer.

Wildlife and nature around munnar.

Home to some of the most rare and exotic wildlife in South India

The hills come alive in the rainforest as a myriad of amphibians, insects, reptiles, and birds come out to enjoy the season, highlighting the immense biodiversity of the place. The forest is active, bustling with creatures during night and day and the monsoon season is perhaps one of the best times to pick up your camera and begin your herping journey.

Munnar is home to several rare species of birds like the black-and-orange flycatcher, Nilgiri pipit , Nilgiri wood pigeon , White-bellied shortwing , Nilgiri flycatcher , and more. It’s also endemic to exotic and beautiful frogs and reptiles like  Resplendent Frog   (Raorchestes Resplendens), Travancore Bush Frog , Yellow-bellied Bush Frog , Large-Scaled  Pit Viper , and Striped Coral Snake . It is also home to the extremely rare and nearly extinct Nilgiri Tahr .

It’s also a place to capture some beautiful flora that’s part of its intrinsic biodiverse ecosystem . The night trails in Munnar are an extremely exciting and thrilling walk to find some of this wildlife.

large-scaled pit viper (Craspedocephalus macrolepis)

What can you expect in a Munnar Wildlife Tour Package or a Munnar Photo Tour ?

Hiking in these nature trails are a perfect way to spot some rare species that are also faced with extinction. One of the most amazing amphibians to spot is the Raorchestes Resplendens also known as the Resplendent Bush Frog .

Sighting these tiny beings is an herculean task as they are highly sensitive to our arrival. But when you do, they stand out with their orange bodies beautifully contrasting with the green.

Among the call of the frogs are the reptiles that roam the night. The nocturnal Pit Vipers make for perfect subjects with their triangular heads, heat-sensing pits, and dorsal markings. Another fantastic reptile to picture is the Striped Coral Snake , a venomous snake endemic to the Western Ghats. The beautiful striped pattern running along its body in contrast to the bright reddish orange hues paints an exotic image for photographers. Last but certainly not the least, you can find the Nilgiri Tahr happily grazing along the hills of Rajamalai . This highly endangered mammal, referred to as the pride of Munnar, is amazingly sure footed and can navigate the mountain terrains with such practised ease that neither man nor beast can compete. Munnar’s wildlife is also inclusive of countless flora of various shapes, colours and sizes. From mushrooms that glow to exotic and beautiful flowers, the uniqueness of the place makes it absolutely picturesque and astounding for macro photography.

Talek River Area, Masai Mara

Checking out from our Nairobi hotel after an early breakfast, we pick up the participants arriving this morning (if any) and make our way to the heart of the Migration action, the legendary Masai Mara, which we reach by afternoon.

After lunch close to the entrance of the Mara, we start our first game drive en route to our first destination around the lodge area.

The transitory herds may be seen very close to the lodge and sometimes a little further away but there is no chance of missing them. Feeling our way around, we will understand the current state of the Migration.

After the drive, we check in to exclusive and cosy tents at the first camp of the Tour, the lodge. Once fresh, we exchange notes about our initial observations and experiences, and hear insights from other participants before dining and retreating to our rooms to tuck in for the night.

The lodge is a lovely property located stunningly, right near the Talek River, which is one of the two rivers (the other being the Mara River itself) which the migratory herds cross. Ergo, this property has been deliberately and carefully chosen to give us quick and easy access to all the action.

We spend the whole day looking for crossings as well as predator and other action, while the Guide takes a call on returning to the lodge for lunch based on the prevailing situation.

In the evening  you enjoy a scrumptious supper and retire for the night.

Mara Triangle, Masai Mara

Having explored the Talek River side, it’s now time to proceed to the celebrated Mara Triangle area and look for action around the Mara River, so after a morning drive around the Talek, we cross over to the Triangle and check in to the delightful lodge.

After lunch we enjoy an introductory ride in the area before returning to the lodge for another interactive session, we call ChitraTantra, before supper and sleep.

We enjoy the next three days in the very heart of the Migration around Serena and the Mara River, leveraging the Guide’s rich experience to get to the right places and make memorable moments to capture the scale and wonder of the dramas unfolding before us.

Every morning we start at 06:30 a.m. after an early breakfast and hope to catch action in the quintessentially spectacular savannah light and after the post-lunch afternoon safari, return after sunset to unwind.

After having spent a hopefully eventful time photographing the Migration in the Mara, we check out after breakfast and return to Nairobi by lunch, whence we take the departing flights for our abodes, where a wealth of images will be processed and many captivating stories told to our families.

Since participants of this Tour travel from various destinations in India and abroad, Please arrive on 22 May 2024 any time (Accommodation is not included in the Tour cost)  Please also note that flight costs are not included in the Tour fee.

Amboseli National Park

Our fleet of safari vehicles carrying the park guide will pick participants who have landed in the morning from the Nairobi Airport, and participants who have arrived a day earlier from their hotels, at around 06:30 a.m. Once everybody is on board, we undertake a four-hour drive to Amboseli National Park. A mutual introduction session and a brief by the guide to set basic expectations for the tour will be followed by lunch.

After lunch will ensue our first safari of the tour – recipe for a memorable moment for any first-time Africa visitor and something that, even after all these visits, gets the skipper’s adrenaline pumping. Driving through the park will acquaint you with the African landscape and give you but a glimpse of the exciting time ahead.

An entire memorable day will be spent out in the picturesque expanses of Amboseli, where views of elephants with the magnificent Kilimanjaro in the backdrop have been specially designed by nature to enthrall. Apart from the pachyderms, we are likely to photograph ostriches, hyaenas, lions, cheetahs and a whole lot of attractive wildlife.

Lake Nakuru National Park

After breakfast, we depart for Nakuru. Arriving just before lunch, we embrace our home for the next two days overlooking the beautiful Lake Nakuru. Following a scrumptious lunch, we embark on the afternoon safari, seeking the chief spectacle of the flamingo congregation and over 400 other species of birds found here.

In the evening we enjoy a tribal dance and celebration before an appetizing supper, and retire for the day.

Setting off after breakfast, we spend as much time in the park as we can in order to sight the plentiful wildlife of Nakuru. The early morning drive will be followed by lunch and an evening safari.

This being an excellent location to see the elusive leopard, we take our chances to spot the spotted beauty of Nakuru. Efforts will also be made to photograph white rhinos and black rhinos.

Between the rides, we meet at the picturesque Baboon Hill overlooking the lake and its flamingo formations, and discuss various topics of nature photography and the natural history of Africa. Meanwhile, here, ultra wide-angle perspectives of baboons, a fixture atop the hill, are a distinct prospect.

For participants who want to relax and take the afternoon easy, the beautiful lodge with plenty of trees and a great restaurant is a fabulous place to rest.

Masai Mara Game Reserve

After breakfast, a pleasant drive across the dramatic Great Rift Valley brings you through the Narok Township, a major Maasai administrative centre, to Kenya’s most precious wildlife sanctuary, Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Masai Mara is home to the colorful Maasai tribe, who may be seen around the borders of the park, with Morans (‘warriors’) loping across the plains, young boys herding goats, or elders grouped under a tree discussing the matters of the day.

Wildlife viewing is never dull in the Mara, and patience is often rewarded with unique sightings. By now hopefully the group will have been acquainted with the African bush, so we seek to make the most of the bounty on offer.

Staying inside the park will ensure a great experience and early access to photography hotspots, so we may catch a lion pride gearing up for a hunt or a solitary leopard retrieving its kill from the high branches of an Acacia tree merely a few hundred metres from the camp.

Every morning while at Masai Mara, we start our day with packed breakfast at 06:30 a.m. and venture into the bush. For participants who are agreeable to spending the entire day in the field, packed lunch boxes will be provided to keep us going the whole day, thereby maximizing wildlife viewing and photography opportunities.

An occasional afternoon shower may be encountered but this will in no way mean a dampener, for the animals continue to be seen and what’s more, it will open up the prospect of making evocative images of wildlife in the rain. And when the clouds have passed, the light that illuminates the scene can serve to illustrate the meaning of the word ‘ethereal’ better than any lexicon in the world.

Meeting at specific points in the savannah, we learn and discuss various topics on photography and natural history of Africa and the Mara in general. These two days are tipped to be the highlight of the Tour with plenty of wildlife on show.

Maasai Village Optional Tour

While at Masai Mara, based on the group’s inclination, the Guide  can plan a visit to a local Maasai Village for a few hours in the day to learn and understand the Maasai culture, their way of life and their interesting community living. This optional Tour costs an additional USD 30 per person.

Balloon Safari Optional Tour

A ride in a hot-air balloon over the endless expanses of the savannah is an ultimate safari experience. We leave the lodge before dawn, when the sky is clear, the air brisk and the conditions perfect. As the sun rises over the Mara plains, our balloon lifts off – a bright splash of colour rising gracefully into the infinite blue. A stunning panorama unfolds below us and the balloon basket becomes our lookout post for a bird’s-eye view of the Mara’s magnificence. We float silently just a few hundred feet above large herds of wild animals. Upon landing, we celebrate the flight with a glass of champagne, after which the retrieval safari cruisers take us back to our driver. This optional ride costs an additional USD 450 per person.

After a scrumptious breakfast, we drive out making sure we arrive by lunchtime at an Indian restaurant in Nairobi. After lunch, we are transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for our home-bound flights.

The Tour ends but your love affair with African wildlife has just begun.

OPTIONAL EXTENSION AT MASAI MARA

Participants who feel the need to stretch their Tour are welcome to stay back on the following nights, to experience two more full days at the Mara at their own pace. The schedule for the two days will remain the same while we venture to deeper areas of the Mara on the full-day game drives, maximizing our chances of bringing back stunning photographs. This extension will be charged additionally. Please express your interest in the extension while booking the Tour to know more.

With the extension having come to an end, following an early breakfast, we drive out making sure we arrive by lunchtime at an Indian restaurant in Nairobi. After lunch, we are transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for our home-bound flights.

Moreover, summer is perfect timing for somebody willing to tour some of the many waterfalls found in Munnar like Attukal, Lakkam and Cheeyappara heightened by monsoon rains.

3. Monsoon (June - September)

Munnar receives heavy rains during the monsoons which revives its lushness making it a verdant paradise. Although some visitors may be deterred by constant rainfall, for others who prefer privacy as well as peace within a natural environment, the monsoon has an attraction of its own.

In the course of the rainy season, Munnar is blanketed with mist and fog that creates a dreamy atmosphere for intimate escapes. There are streams gushing, waterfalls cascading and flowers blooming on rain washed landscapes that make sightseeing a perfect treat. However, when exploring Munnar in such periods of the year one should be very careful because the trails can become slippery due to heavy downpour resulting in landslides.

4. Autumn (October - November)

acts as a transition period between monsoon and winter seasons, giving tourists a chance to enjoy both vibrant greenery and clear skies above their heads in Munnar. The climate remains pleasant ranging from 15 C up to 25 C at this time hence ideal for outdoor activities.

What stands out while visiting Munnar in autumn is how it gets back on its feet after receiving all those heavy showers from the previous months. Freshly cleaned vegetation covers hillsides; earth smells like moist soil mixed with blooming flowers. Besides, autumn allows wildlife enthusiasts to see indigenous Nilgiri tahr or endangered Nilgiri langur live naturally.

In conclusion, Munnar is quite a fascinating place for the tourists to visit throughout the year due to its diverse landscapes and great climate. In every season of the year, spring which has various colorful flowers blooming, monsoon with cool mists and winter with fresh air are all displayed by Munnar. By knowing these features of each season, it is possible to schedule one's trip in such a way that they get what weather and experience they want from nature while in Munnar to make their tour more wonderful and educational than ever.

Giraffe Grabs Toddler from Truck During Wildlife Tour, Then Drops Her Into Mom’s Arms – See the Video

“My heart stopped," said the 2-year-old girl's dad

A toddler in Texas was just lifted in the air by an unexpected handler.

Paisley Toten, 2, visited the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, Texas, on Saturday, June 1, with her parents, Jason Toten and Sierra Robert. However, the visit took a turn when a giraffe picked up the small child, per Robert’s Facebook page .

“So we took a trip to fossil rim today and it was a blast buttttt…. I would discourage you from riding in the back of the truck 😬,” Robert captioned the post.

During the family’s visit to the wildlife center, they drove around a visitor path where the animals roam free and are allowed to be fed by visitors. (At the time of their visit, per the center’s site , visitors were permitted to ride in the bed of a truck if an adult was present and everyone was safely inside the vehicle.)

While they were driving, much to the family's surprise — and horror — the animal pulled the toddler by her shirt collar and picked her up on the bed of her parents’ pickup truck.

As it turned out, the incident was caught on video by another family in a nearby car.

“My daughter was recording a giraffe eating out of people’s hands and dipping its head in sunroofs,” Lindsay Merrirmen, who took the footage, told Storyful. “We were 3 cars behind a red truck and saw the Giraffe accidentally grab a little girl’s shirt along with the food and lift her from the bed of the truck.”

Jason told CBS affiliate KWTX-TV that his family had stopped to feed the giraffes when he turned around and saw the giraffe grab his daughter.

“Paisley was holding the bag, and the giraffe went to go get the bag, not her, but it ended up getting her shirt too and picked her up,” Jason told the outlet, adding, “As soon as she went up, her mom yelled, ‘Hey!’ and the giraffe let go.”

“She wasn’t even scared,” he told McClatchy News — but couldn't say the same for himself. "My heart stopped," he said. "It scared the hell out of me."

Fortunately, after the animal let go, Paisley fell into her mother’s arms and both were unharmed.

After Paisley’s unexpected encounter, her parents treated her to a toy from the gift shop — a toy giraffe. As for the future, the family told KWTX-TV that they do plan to return to the park again.

In a statement on behalf of a wildlife center, a spokesperson said they were "recently made aware of an incident involving one of our giraffes that occurred this past weekend."

"The incident was first reported to us on Monday June 3rd. The safety of our guests and animals is always of utmost importance to us. Although an incident like this has never occurred here previously, we are taking immediate action to make sure it won't happen again," the statement read. "Effective immediately Fossil Rim will no longer be allowing guests to ride through the park in truck beds."

The statement continued, "Fossil Rim offers a variety of experiences guided by knowledgeable staff so guests can continue to have up-close and memorable animal encounters, and support our mission to save threatened and endangered species."
