Nord Course

Zum siebten Mal sind die European Open auf dem Nord Course der Green Eagle Golf Courses bei Hamburg zu Gast. Ein neuer Anlauf für die Golfer aus aller Welt auf dem schwierigsten Platz der DP World Tour. Ehrfürchtig nennen sie den 7.057 Meter langen Kurs: The Green Monster.

Canter secures maiden DP World Tour title in Hamburg

Englishman held off Bernd Wiesberger to win European Open

Laurie Canter claimed a long-awaited maiden DP World Tour title with an emotional triumph at the European Open in Germany.

The Englishman entered the final round at Green Eagle Golf Courses in a two-way tie at the top of the leaderboard but made a slow start on the Porsche Nord Course, playing his first ten holes in one over par.

Canter held his nerve on the back nine with three birdies and two bogeys to sign for a one under 72 and finish on 13 under par, two ahead of multiple DP World Tour winners Bernd Wiesberger and Thriston Lawrence in second.

The 34-year-old has had four runner-up finishes on the DP World Tour, including at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open earlier this season, and he was delighted to finally get over the line on a tense final day in Hamburg.

Despite a top ten at last week's Soudal Open, he was playing with a new set of irons this week and that decision has paid dividends as he moves into the top ten on the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and the summit of the European Swing Rankings.

"This is what I've always wanted to do, to win on the DP World Tour," said Canter.

"Now that I've done it it's going to open up some opportunities for me. If I'm going to try and climb the world rankings and get myself up and playing in the biggest tournaments in the world.

"You have to win and I think you only get that belief once you do it. Hopefully it means I can push on and go from strength to strength."

Frenchman Julien Guerrier and Dane Niklas Nørgaard finished in fourth place on ten under par, while Japan’s Keita Nakajima was a shot further back in sixth.

Dubai's Rafa Cabrera Bello finished in seventh position on eight under, while 2023 European Open champion Tom McKibbin, three-time DP World Tour winner Guido Migliozzi, English duo Tom Lewis and Dubai resident Garrick Porteous and American Johannes Veerman shared eighth on seven under.

The Race to Dubai now heads to Sweden for the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, taking place from June 6-9 at Vasatorps Golfklubb.

2024 European Open purse, winner’s share, DP World Tour prize money payout

T he 2024 European Open purse is $2.5 million, with the winner's share at $425,000 -- the standard 17 percent payout according to the European Tour's prize money distribution chart .

The 2024 European Open field is headed by Laurie Canter, Dan Bradbury and Thriston Lawrence, as well as more of the world's best players.

The European Open is the 22nd event of the year on the 2024 European Tour schedule .

The event is played at Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg, Germany.

What else is on the line: Race to Dubai points, OWGR points, exemptions

Beyond money, there are important points, perks and benefits on the line for the field -- in particular, the tournament winner.

The winner gets approximately 19.6 Official World Golf Ranking points, with the points available based on field strength.

Winning comes with other big benefits, including a two-plus season exemption on the European Tour, as well berths into other key events.

There are a total of 3,000 Race to Dubai points on offer to the full field.

The points on offer are related to the purse of the tournament as quoted in United States dollars (USD).

The winner gets 500 DP World Tour points, with the player holding the most season-long Race to Dubai points at the end of the tournament winning the Race to Dubai and its first-place prize.

The top eight players in the Race to Dubai standings after the season will be paid from the Race to Dubai bonus pool of $6 million.

DP World Tour in Hamburg with seven Italians

The Italian "Settebello" (Italian water polo team nickname) is in Germany, where from tomorrow until Sunday, June 2nd, the European Open will take place. This tournament, part of the DP World Tour, will be held in Hamburg, at the Green Eagle Golf Course.

Representing Italy in the competition are Guido Migliozzi, Edoardo Molinari, Francesco Laporta, Filippo Celli, Andrea Pavan, Renato Paratore, and Lorenzo Scalise. Matteo Manassero will have a rest round. The Italian number one, coming off a 13th place finish in Belgium at the Soudal Open, will return to the field from June 13th to 16th at Pinehurst, North Carolina, for the US Open, the third male Major of 2024.

This is an important opportunity for Migliozzi, who has the chance to secure an Olympic pass. After finishing 24th last week following a final round below expectations, the Vicenza native dreams of playing in his second Olympics in Paris, following his debut in Tokyo.
