Canadian Tech Death outfit  ARCHSPIRE  will be hitting the road in Europe with DECAPITATED, BLACK TONGUE and INFERI in January/February 2022! Archspire’s 2017 Relentless Mutation was a cavalcade of speed and extremity — blasting, accelerating and, in partial reference to its title, “mutating” as each song unfolded, all the while rapid-fire, shotgun vocals blurred the lines between a man’s throat and additional instrument. It was, unquestionably, an innovation of sound and technique — Archspire had broken the speed barrier while creating songs memorable as they were unabashedly extreme for extreme metal. Thus, the pressure was already there to top Relentless Mutation when the band started to compile new songs in 2018. The global pandemic heightened the situation (read: no touring, expanded free time) and caused Archspire to turn inward and apply additional rigor to their songwriting process, albeit painstakingly so. But by the end of the fraught calendar year that was 2020, the band emerged with their fourth studio album, Bleed the Future.

According to the members of Archspire — vocalist Oli Aleron, guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli, bassist Jared Smith and drummer Spencer Prewett — they originally went into the making of Bleed the Future under the idea they would finish the album in between the various tours scheduled for 2020. Of course, none of that happened, prompting the band to do more pre-production than at any time in their career. Archspire then subjected the album’s eight songs to near-constant critiquing that ensured they came away with a product, that in their estimation, is their best to date.

“The benefit we had was that Relentless came out in 2017,” says Lamb. “Since then, we toured more than we ever did before. We had the viewpoint of ‘What do crowds like? What parts should we write more of? What parts do people give us good feedback on?’ We wanted to expand and write those parts more consistently — there are more hooks and when we do have hooks, we wanted to repeat those parts so people will know that this is the catchy part of the song.”

“The most important thing was that we had clever songwriting,” adds Prewett. “We wanted the album to be more accessible to more people but still keep it extreme, fast and technical. So, we changed our process this time. We recorded rehearsal every day and listened to what we did afterward. We’d then come back to the jam spot and change riffs and ideas based on what everyone was thinking about during the week. It resulted in an album that everyone was happier with.”

Archspire also had the stated goal for Bleed the Future that they wanted to get faster. While such a feat may defy reason given their previous output, the band wrote their fastest song to date — the album-closing “AUM,” a cut that opens up with an audio recording of a German friend of Prewett’s who, according to the drummer, enjoys ragging on Archspire. Comedic clips aside, “AUM,” caps off an album that pushes the boundaries of speed but also is textured — Smith’s ethereal basslines often serve as mid-song interludes, while Lamb and Morelli weave melodic, spiraling guitar lines that annihilate the fretboard during “Abandon the Linear,” “Bleed the Future” and “Acrid Canon.” Accordingly, the members of Archspire were keenly aware of the expectations placed upon them after the success of Relentless Mutation. The online comments regarding whether they could top Relentless Mutation was also occasionally on their minds when composing Bleed the Future and prompted the band to ensure that all five members were happy with everything — down to the last riff, vocal line, bass run and drum pattern. “Audience expectation is really important,” says Lamb. “If we leave the jam spot and everyone is stoked on a song, it’s pretty likely that the audience will be stoked. We have the expectation of the audience, but we also have to be pumped on the music. I feel the proudest of the music. We spent more time on the songs and got better at writing. I feel it’s better music.”

“It’s an extremely tedious writing process,” adds Smith. “If anyone isn’t feeling a riff, we scrap it and have to find something we’re all happy with. It can be super-frustrating in the moment, but in the end, we have something better. We want everything we write to be a step up and I think we achieved that with Bleed the Future.”

The album is accompanied by a concept developed by Aleron that begs the question: What happens when humans start giving birth to non-humans? Born from a weird dream the vocalist had, Bleed the Future’s concept does not have finality or a conclusion. It does, however, posit a few ethical dilemmas to ties into Archspire’s long-running science fiction themes.

“I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them,” says Aleron. “What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to — if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil.”

Bleed the Future was recorded in October and November 2020 at Flatline Audio in Colorado with producer/engineer Dave Otero. This was the second consecutive album the band worked with Otero. According to Morelli, the recording process was seamless. “Dave was already familiar with what we each can do individually,” he says. “This time, he was more prepared to tackle those elements. How he tracks was more focused on what we were capable of and I think it really shows here.”

As live show activity for 2021 hangs in the balance (Archspire currently has dates lined up for November), the pandemic has prompted many bands to re-think their new album release dates as well as how to stay visible in a world currently without touring. But, with a fanbase that has embraced the band’s online presence that includes playthroughs, tutorials and now, cooking shows (!), Archspire heads into the Bleed the Future album cycle the benefactors of their commitment to touring and, most of all, position as one of death metal’s most forward-thinking bands.

“We have a lot of awesome fans, so I think they’ll be there to support us and pick up the album because they like the music,” says Lamb. “We’re a self-managed band; we’ve been working with the same label for ten years and I think the outcome will be good. Would it had been better if we had been on a full North American tour starting a week before the album release? Sure, but I think people will come out and support us through other means. As soon as we’re ready to go back on tour and everybody is safe to do so, we’ll be out there.”

Entheos Announces European Tour with Archspire

Having stripped down to a two-piece in 2020, this decision streamlined the band and allows the core members to make the music they want -with no compromise, which is clearly to their betterment.

It was amazing. Great execution, good sound, good show. Only thing to improve was... too many bands playing the same evening, with very small time slots, so the time of swapping bands/equipment was quite big compared to the actual show length.

This was one of the best shows I have ever seen. The sound quality was excellent, the bands were awesome, and the venue was adequate. Archspire played Relentless Mutation in its entirety and it was metal AF. I was in the pit all night and the crowd was welcoming and had great energy. There were fans who drove from Canada to Somerville, MA just to see the show and they, along with everyone else, got one hell of an experience. I can't express just how awesome Archspire and the other bands in the line up are. I highly suggest seeing them if you can and I really appreciate how SongKick connects me to the shows I want to see most.

Such fine musicianship is hard to match. An extremely talented, cohesive band is awesome to see! Someone mentioned that the crowd was great to show up on the same night Slayer was playing only 45mins away. For an older fan like me, who has seen Slayer a few times, I have those memories.

But this is Archspire! See them if you can!

ARCHSPIRE  have announced a headlining European tour!

Set for March next year, the tour will see the Canadian technical death metal touring across mainland Europe and the UK in support of their latest studio album,  Bleed The Future , which was released in October last year. Support for the tour comes from  BENIGHTED ,  PSYCROPTIC  and  ENTHEOS .

ARCHSPIRE ‘s 2017 “Relentless Mutation” was a cavalcade of speed and extremity — blasting, accelerating and, in partial reference to its title, “mutating” as each song unfolded, all the while rapid-fire, shotgun vocals blurred the lines between a man’s throat and additional instrument. It was, unquestionably, an innovation of sound and technique — ARCHSPIRE had broken the speed barrier while creating songs memorable as they were unabashedly extreme for extreme metal. Thus, the pressure was already there to top “ Relentless Mutation ” when the band started to compile new songs in 2018. The global pandemic heightened the situation (read: no touring, expanded free time) and caused ARCHSPIRE to turn inward and apply additional rigor to their songwriting process, albeit painstakingly so. But by the end of the fraught calendar year that was 2020, the band emerged with their fourth studio album, “ Bleed the Future “.

According to the members of ARCHSPIRE — vocalist Oli Aleron , guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli , bassist Jared Smith and drummer Spencer Prewett — they originally went into the making of “ Bleed the Future ” under the idea they would finish the album in between the various tours scheduled for 2020. Of course, none of that happened, prompting the band to do more pre-production than at any time in their career. ARCHSPIRE then subjected the album’s eight songs to near-constant critiquing that ensured they came away with a product, that in their estimation, is their best to date.

“The benefit we had was that Relentless came out in 2017,” says Lamb . “Since then, we toured more than we ever did before. We had the viewpoint of “What do crowds like? What parts should we write more of? What parts do people give us good feedback on?” We wanted to expand and write those parts more consistently — there are more hooks and when we do have hooks, we wanted to repeat those parts so people will know that this is the catchy part of the song.”

“The most important thing was that we had clever songwriting,” adds Prewett . “We wanted the album to be more accessible to more people but still keep it extreme, fast and technical. So, we changed our process this time. We recorded rehearsal every day and listened to what we did afterward. We’d then come back to the jam spot and change riffs and ideas based on what everyone was thinking about during the week. It resulted in an album that everyone was happier with.”

ARCHSPIRE also had the stated goal for “ Bleed the Future ” that they wanted to get faster. While such a feat may defy reason given their previous output, the band wrote their fastest song to date — the album-closing “AUM,” a cut that opens up with an audio recording of a German friend of Prewett ‘s who, according to the drummer, enjoys ragging on ARCHSPIRE . Comedic clips aside, “AUM,” caps off an album that pushes the boundaries of speed but also is textured — Smith ‘s ethereal basslines often serve as mid-song interludes, while Lamb and Morelli weave melodic, spiraling guitar lines that annihilate the fretboard during “ Abandon the Linear ,” “ Bleed the Future ” and “ Acrid Canon .” Accordingly, the members of ARCHSPIRE were keenly aware of the expectations placed upon them after the success of “ Relentless Mutation “. The online comments regarding whether they could top “ Relentless Mutation ” was also occasionally on their minds when composing “ Bleed the Future ” and prompted the band to ensure that all five members were happy with everything — down to the last riff, vocal line, bass run and drum pattern. “Audience expectation is really important,” says Lamb . “If we leave the jam spot and everyone is stoked on a song, it’s pretty likely that the audience will be stoked. We have the expectation of the audience, but we also have to be pumped on the music. I feel the proudest of the music. We spent more time on the songs and got better at writing. I feel it’s better music.”

“It’s an extremely tedious writing process,” adds Smith . “If anyone isn’t feeling a riff, we scrap it and have to find something we’re all happy with. It can be super-frustrating in the moment, but in the end, we have something better. We want everything we write to be a step up and I think we achieved that with “ Bleed the Future .”

The album is accompanied by a concept developed by Aleron that begs the question: What happens when humans start giving birth to non-humans? Born from a weird dream the vocalist had, “ Bleed the Future ‘s” concept does not have finality or a conclusion. It does, however, posit a few ethical dilemmas to ties into ARCHSPIRE ‘s long-running science fiction themes.

“I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them,” says Aleron . “What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to — if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil.”

“ Bleed the Future” was recorded in October and November 2020 at Flatline Audio in Colorado with producer/engineer Dave Otero. This was the second consecutive album the band worked with Otero . According to Morelli , the recording process was seamless. “ Dave was already familiar with what we each can do individually,” he says. “This time, he was more prepared to tackle those elements. How he tracks was more focused on what we were capable of and I think it really shows here.”

As live show activity for 2021 hangs in the balance ( ARCHSPIRE currently has dates lined up for November), the pandemic has prompted many bands to re-think their new album release dates as well as how to stay visible in a world currently without touring. But, with a fanbase that has embraced the band’s online presence that includes playthroughs, tutorials and now, cooking shows (!), ARCHSPIRE heads into the “ Bleed the Future ” album cycle the benefactors of their commitment to touring and, most of all, position as one of death metal’s most forward-thinking bands.

“We have a lot of awesome fans, so I think they’ll be there to support us and pick up the album because they like the music,” says Lamb . “We’re a self-managed band; we’ve been working with the same label for ten years and I think the outcome will be good. Would it had been better if we had been on a full North American tour starting a week before the album release? Sure, but I think people will come out and support us through other means. As soon as we’re ready to go back on tour and everybody is safe to do so, we’ll be out there.”

ARCHSPIRE announce "The Everything's F#*!@D" North American headline tour

Archspire — a.k.a. one of the craziest tech-death band in the world, and Jason Mamoa's vocal mentors — have announced the aptly titled "The Everything's F#*!@D" North America headlining tour. Aborted, Carcosa and Alluvial will play in support, making for a truly extreme bill.

"We're joining forces with these three elite squads to strategically infiltrate major North American cities," Archspire commented in a joint statement. "We're on a mission to provide you with a brain-numbing, eardrum-puncturing nuclear strike that is guaranteed to melt away all those incessant pestering thoughts for at least one night of your dwindling life so that you can completely forget that everything's f#*!@D and TRULY. F#!@NG. PARTY."

The pre-sale launches tomorrow, February 29th at 10 a.m. ET, with the password: STAYTECH. Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday, March 1st at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets will be available on Archspire's official site .

Archspire Announce 2022 North American Tour With Entheos + More

The 2022 touring season just got a little heavier as Archspire have announced plans for a North American headline run next year.

The spring run will kick off April 13 in Seattle, crossing through the U.S. and into Canada before circling back to a May 14 conclusion in Vancouver. You can see all of the listed dates, cities and venues below.

Joining Archspire on the run will be Entheos , Inferi and Vulvodynia for the "Tech Trek V" run, making for a powerful bill that should crush venues during the spring months.

Archspire comment, "Hey, man wow you must have hit your head pretty hard there. What? Covid-19? Restrictions on travel? Tours getting cancelled? Yeah I don't know what you're talking about, but did you hear that Archspire just announced their Tech Trek V tour? Featuring Entheos, Inferi and Vulvodynia! Tickets are on sale right now!" Psycroptic announce European and UK tour dates

Long running Australian extreme metal group PSYCROPTIC have today announced that they’ll be touring Europe and the UK in March 2023 in support of Archspire, with Benighted and Entheos. The Tech Trek tour will be PSYCROPTIC ’s first set of European shows since the release of their acclaimed eighth studio, Divine Council , this August.

Tickets for Tech Trek 2023 will be on sale this coming Monday (December 5) at 11am CET / 10am GMT.

Speaking on the tour announcement, Todd Stern (bass) comments: "Coming off of our record release and the subsequent US headliner that immediately followed, we couldn't be more excited to join this killer package as a way to kick off our 2023 tour cycle!

"The entire bill features stellar musicians from front to back, and we really look forward to delivering an evening of masterful brutality to the lovely citizens of Europe. Additionally, we of course look forward to a solid month of hard laughs, as the bands on this bill are equally as proficient at having fun as they are at their respective instruments. We couldn't be more stoked!"

Brothers Dave Haley (drums) and Joe Haley (guitar) have steered PSYCROPTIC through different shades of death metal, from the technical to the experimental, with longtime vocalist and lyricist Jason Peppiatt and bassist Todd Stern further embellishing the sound of the band to create something that is distinctively PSYCROPTIC .

Origin vocalist Jason Keyser has long been considered a part of PSYCROPTIC ’s extended family, and on Divine Council he contributes vocals to the album tracks. As Peppiatt wrote the lyrics and vocal patterns, the group were able to utilise an extended palette of styles to further enhance his sound, courtesy of Keyser and additional vocals from Amy Wiles, hitting upon a collective approach to complement the Haleys.

With writing and recording punctuated by a pandemic and subsequent strict lockdowns, Divine Council was recorded in various locations across Australia and North America. Drums were tracked at Anubis Studios by Chris Thelemco, bass was captured by Justin Spaeth at Cave Bound Studio, and guitars, vocals and synths were recorded by the band’s own Joe Haley at his Crawlspace Studios before he mixed and mastered the albums nine tracks.The suffocating atmosphere carries through to the lyrics that detail the myriad ways that human beings waste, destroy or devalue what’s in front of them - captured in the evocative album artwork, courtesy of the prolific Eliran Kantor. With narrative threads that throw back to tracks on both their self-titled album and As The Kingdom Drowns , PSYCROPTIC have found yet more new ways to explore human’s inherent inability to see the bigger picture - or change track before a miserable demise becomes a crushing inevitability.

Divine Council is an album that oozes confidence, maturity and a relaxed self assurance befitting of a band with a rich legacy behind them and an unconstrained future ahead of them.
