West Palm Beach is a port city in Florida USA, as well as South Florida's 3rd largest metro county - following Miami-Dade and Broward. The city covers a total area of approx 151 km2 (58 mi2) and has population around 110,000 (metro around 5,83 million).

West Palm Beach is the oldest municipality in Miami metropolitan area. It was incorporated as a city in November 1894 - 2 years before Miami. Despite the fact that West Palm Beach is situated approx 109 km (68 mi) north of Downtown Miami, it's still considered the principal city within Miami metropolitan area, because of the solid urbanization between the two cities. The estimated population of Miami Metropolitan area, including all of Palm Beach County, was 6,012,330 inhabitants at 2015 census.

The Atlantic Treasure Coast of Florida is home to West Palm Beach. A bit further east of West Palm is Palm Beach island, home to Florida's famous mansions and renowned upscale shopping boulevard of Worth Avenue. Henry Flagler, railroad tycoon, established this region as a vacation haven for the most famous and rich. Among the many part-time residents, President Donald Trump owns the renowned Mar-a-Lago mansion, created by the Post family years ago.

Other attractions in the area include Lion Country Safari, where visitors dive through cageless zoo containing more than 1,000 animals including elephants, lions, gorillas, gazelle, giraffes, birds. More nature awaits at Loxachatchee National Wildlife Refuge, best for a leisurely hike on nature trails or renting a canoe for fishing. Easily accessible from Palm Beach are Miami and Fort Lauderdale .

The Port of Palm Beach is situated on the northern edge of city limits. It is Florida's 4th busiest container port and continental United States' 18th busiest port. In addition to its intermodal capacity, the Port is an important modal point for shipment of variety of goods, as well as being home to a number of small passenger cruise lines.

As a waterfront city, West Palm Beach has a specific need for water transportation between surrounding areas and points in the city. Waterway transportation is offered to and from downtown Clematis Street District, Peanut Island, Sailfish Marina Resort, waterfront attractions and special events.

In April 2018, Grand Classica (now Margaritaville Paradise) joined the fleet of the Florida-based company Margaritaville at Sea/Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line . The company has 2 vessels - Grand Celebration and Grand Classica.

In the end of August 2017, Port Palm Beach District Commission signed a 10-year agreement for the Costa cruise ship (neoClassica) to serve the Florida-Bahamas route West Palm Beach- Freeport (Grand Bahama Island) . The ship's regularly scheduled itinerary program was based on 3-day / 2-night Bahamas cruises to Freeport and back to Palm Beach FL. These Florida-Bahamas short-breaks are very popular among both American and Bahamian citizens as they provide a cheap travel shopping alternative. Bahamas Paradise estimated that these tourists spend ~USD 4.5 million annually.

From both ships (Celebration and Classica), Port Palm Beach projected between USD 54-63 million in net income over a 10-year period (2018-2028), depending on the number of handled passengers. Both cruise vessels' combined passenger capacity is nearly 1,3 million per year.

In October 2019, Bahamas Paradise introduced its "Nassau Cruise and Stay" program. Besides Grand Bahama Island, now cruisers can extend Bahamian resort vacations with premium all-inclusive leisure properties like Melia Nassau Beach Resort, SLS Baha Mar Hotel, Comfort Suites Paradise Island. The company offers a travel option from Florida to Nassau the 2-night cruise (Grand Classica) combined with "Nassau Cruise and Stay" (max 6-night hotel package extension).

West Palm Beach cruise terminal

Palm Beach port's cruise terminal is an exclusive facility for Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line/Margaritaville ships only. It offers valet parking priced lower in comparison to other Florida cruise ports. The company's parking attendants meet passengers upon arrival at the terminal.

Parking prices are USD 19 per vehicle per night. Payments can be made in cash or via bank cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover) and traveler's checks.

Boat safety features:

Our tiki boat cruises between 4-6 mph and has safety rails around the perimeter of the boat. the boat is also equipped with 1 pfd for every passenger, along with all u.s. coast guard requirements. children under the age of 12 are required to wear a life jacket, which we have onboard, or feel free to bring your own. if bringing a pet onboard they must have life jacket., can more than 6 people cruise at the same time, the u.s. coast guard regulations for our tiki boats are 6 people plus crew.  however, we now have multiple boats and can accommodate larger group., what happens if i have 10 people, when we have groups larger than 6 people, we offer “tandem” cruises where our boats can cruise next to each other or anchor beside each other once on the sandbar. each multiple boat cruise will have a 20% gratuity added when booked., what are your cancellation and inclement weather policies, we reserve the right to cancel any cruise, at any time, due to weather, safety, mechanical or behavioral issues. if you tour is canceled, your cruise will be refunded (this excludes behavioral and alcohol-related cancellations). if you need to cancel your cruise, we require a 24-hour notice to receive a full refund., what can the tiki boat be used for, we can pretty much accommodate anything you can imagine. from bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthday parties, weddings & family fun days…you name it and we will try to make it work., should i tip my captain, our captains are highly skilled and work hard to make sure your tiki cruise is as enjoyable as possible. tips are greatly appreciated and 18% – 20% is recommended. venmo, zelle and cash app are accepted, or we can apply to the credit card used to book your cruise., do you provide food and drinks, our boats are byob so please feel free to bring your favorite food or beverage. we will have a large cooler filled with ice and bottled waters onboard. our marina also has a small selection of sodas, beer, seltzers, and snacks available for purchase., does the boat have a restroom, our tiki boats are not equipped with a restroom; therefore, we strongly encourage you to use the restroom at the marina before leaving the dock., do i need i.d. to drink, yes, we do card everyone that is drinking, so make sure you have a valid i.d..

Margaritaville cruise settles 2 lawsuits after bartender snuck into women's room, raped them

Two passengers aboard the margaritaville at sea paradise cruise ship accused an employee of sneaking into their room and raping them while they slept..

WEST PALM BEACH — Two women who said they were raped by a bartender on a Jimmy Buffett-themed cruise ship have agreed to settle their lawsuits against the company for undisclosed amounts of money.

They accused a crewmate of sneaking into their room aboard the  Margaritaville At Sea Paradise ship and raping them while they slept. One woman, identified in a December lawsuit only as Jane Doe, said she became pregnant as a result and "was forced to terminate the pregnancy, from which she then suffered serious complications."

Her cabinmate, identified in a separate lawsuit as HB, said bartender Hoobesh Dookhy pocketed one of their room keys while serving the women drinks aboard the Bahamas-bound ship and used it to enter their room after both women fell asleep.

Doe said she woke to find Dookhy caressing her face and  sexually assaulting her . She told FBI agents that she demanded he leave, but he moved to HB's bed and began to assault her, too.

Doe recorded the assault and reported it to cruise-ship security the following morning. According to court records, investigators found the women's room key in the pocket of Dookhy's work vest and a photo he took of HB, naked and asleep, on his cellphone.

Dookhy admitted to having sex with HB but told investigators that their encounter was consensual. Faced with the possibility of life in federal prison on a sexual-abuse charge, he pleaded guilty to one count of abusive sexual contact in October — forgoing his right to a trial by jury but cementing a deal with prosecutors to have the worst of the two charges against him dropped.

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon sentenced Dookhy to two years in prison — one year more than federal sentencing guidelines advised and exactly what prosecutors asked for. He is scheduled to be released before his 28th birthday. According to court records, he will remain on supervised release for five years and must register as a sex offender.

Neither charge against him stemmed from the rape Doe described in her lawsuit. She was classified as a witness to her cabinmate's sexual assault rather than as a victim to her own, but her attorney, Spencer Aronfeld, said Dookhy's conviction and the subsequent media attention surrounding HB's lawsuit convincedher to file one, too.

"We reached an amicable resolution," Aronfeld said this month. "She's pleased with the result."

Aronfeld said that as part of the agreement, Doe "can't tell her story to anyone." He declined to say more about the confidential settlement but added that, generally speaking, no amount of money can heal the wounds of sexual assault victims. He said the value of a settlement is in closing the case and allowing victims to move forward.

HB's attorney, Carissa Peebles of the law firm Morgan & Morgan, declined to comment, and Aronfeld said he did not know whether her settlement was identical to Doe's. In an earlier interview, Aronfeld called the two lawsuits "considerably different" in terms of the damages reported by both women — the most notable being Doe's pregnancy and abortion.

During the earlier interview, Aronfeld said his client did not undergo a paternity test to determine who fathered the child but said Doe intended to testify that she and her husband were not sexually active before or after the alleged rape.

Missouri woman latest to file sexual-assault lawsuit against cruise line's owner

Doe and HB belong to a long list of passengers and crew members who say they were victimized aboard cruise ships. More than 500 sexual-assault reports were documented between 2010 and 2022 on 13 major cruise lines, according to data published by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

A Missourian woman, identified only as Jane Doe, filed a new lawsuit against the Margaritaville at Sea cruise and its parent company Classica Cruise this month. She said Margaritaville arranged for a sea-side hotel in the Bahamas for guests to stay. According to the lawsuit, when she left her hotel room at night to get a glass of water, a hotel employee forced her into the hotel's theater control room, locked the door and raped her.

She is suing the hotel in addition to the cruise line. The alleged rape happened in August 2023. Margaritaville at Sea did not return a request for comment.

E! Online reports the video, which is private, was set to the Hannah Montana song "I'll Always Remember You" and featured the 18-year-old "sporting a red Carnegie Mellon University sweater while making silly faces for the camera and doing a cute dance with her friends."

Since 2021, Food Network star Guy Fieri doubled down on South Florida , purchasing homes in Lake Worth Beach and on Singer Island near West Palm Beach. The Henegar Center, 625 E. Turkey Creek Sanctuary, 1518 Port Malabar Blvd NE, Palm Bay, offers free ranger-led tours on the first and third Sundays of each month, excluding holidays, from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants should meet at the sanctuary Nature Center and bring sturdy tennis shoes or boots, sunscreen, insect repellent, water, snacks, binoculars and a hat. Tours will take place on the boardwalk and various trails. Each tour will be led by a park ranger and will focus on common plants and animals found in the sanctuary. 8. Free boat trip to Samsons Island

Samsons Island is a 52-acre passive nature island in the Banana River, accessible only by water, with docks on the south, east and north sides of the island for public use. The City of Satellite Beach provides free boat transportation to and from Samsons Island on the first and third Sunday of each month at 9 a.m., weather permitting. Guests will meet back at the main dock at noon for the return trip. Trips will depart from and return to the Satellite Beach Fire Department, 1390 S. Patrick Drive. Reservations are required. Florida baseball vs Kentucky final score, highlights: Gators demolish Wildcats, advance to CWS semifinals

OMAHA, Neb. — Florida baseball faces another win or go home game on Wednesday against Kentucky in the College World Series at Charles Schwab Field.

The Florida Gators (35-29) have responded well with their backs against the wall, going 7-1 in their last eight NCAA Tournament elimination games dating back to 2023. That included Monday, when UF advanced in the losers bracket by edging North Carolina State 5-4 behind an early three-run homer from Jac Caglianone and three scoreless innings out of the bullpen from Brandon Neely, who picked up his fifth save of the season.

"Obviously everybody knows when you get in the elimination brackets it's about emotion and keeping your energy going and we did that," Florida baseball coach Kevin O'Sullivan said.

Kentucky (46-15) fell into the losers bracket with a 5-1 loss to Texas A&M on Wednesday night. The Wildcats took 2 of 3 from UF in the regular season, with both of the wins against Florida coming in extra inning.

Kentucky hasn't named a starter yet but will likely throw lefty Dominic Niman (8-4, 6.24), who has yet to start for the Wildcats in Omaha. Florida will counter with lefty Pierce Coppola (0-4, 9.16 ERA)

Florida baseball improves to 2-0 in elimination games in the College World Series and 5-0 in postseason elimination games with a 15-4 thrashing of Kentucky in Omaha. Pierce Coppola delivered the best start of his career, going five innings and earning his first career win with nine Ks. The Gator offense produced a seven-run first inning and a five-run fifth inning, while Jac Caglianone became the Gators all-time home run king with his 75th career homer in the sixth. UF moves onto the semifinals and a rematch with Texas A&M. The Gators fell to the Aggies 3-2 to open the CWS Sunday morning. First pitch is set for now at 7 p.m. on ESPN from the Chuck in Omaha.

Jac Caglianone becomes Florida baseball's new home run king

The Wildcats finally pitch to Cags after three walks, and the Gators legend makes them pay. He takes a 3-2 pitch into the Kentucky bullpen in right field to put Florida ahead 15-4 in the sixth inning. It's his 35th homer of the season, and his 75th in a Gators uniform. He officially passes Matt LaPorta for most in program history. LaPorta, who is at the game in Omaha, gave Cags a standing ovation as he rounded the bases.

Kevin O'Sullivan goes to the bullpen

Pierce Coppola's day is over as Jake Clemente enters for the sixth inning. Coppola goes five innings and allows four runs.

Ashton Wilson becomes sixth Gator to drive in run

The sophomore hits a fly ball to right, and after some UK confusion, it drops. Shelton and Heyman score, and the Gators have blown this game open fully. Dale Thomas strikes out to end the inning, but Florida tallies five in the fifth and now leads Kentucky 14-4 with four innings to go in Omaha.

The Gators catcher hits a ground ball to third, which takes a mean hop. Shelnut scores from second, and Colby Shelton moves to third on the Heyman double.

Tyler Shelnut got out of his hitting drought, sort of. The Lake City native and Fort White HS alum lays down a bunt with Jac Caglianone on third. It's a perfect one down the third base line, scoring Cags without a throw and putting Shelnut at first. Florida leads now 11-4 over Kentucky in the bottom of the fifth.

Donay goes yard for the second time today

Gators respond back in a big way in the bottom of the fifth as Brody Donay hits a solo shot down the left field line. Donay hit a grand slam in the first to put Florida ahead 7-1. After beginning the CWS 0-6 vs Texas A&M and NC State, the Lakeland native is now 3-3 with five RBIs, three runs and two HRs. Florida leads UK 10-4 with no outs in the fifth.

Wildcats further cut into Florida's lead

Quebec native Emilien Pitre helps the 'Cats form a two out rally as he blasts a two run homer to right-center. This scores Ryan Waldschmidt, who had walked with two outs. Pierce Coppola ends the inning with a K, but UK has now scored three unanswered. Florida leads 9-4 in the middle of the 5th.

Nick Lopez's second RBI single of the game for Kentucky cuts the Florida lead to 9-2. But Pierce Coppola works out of a first and second jam by striking out two straight batters to end the inning. Coppola at 68 pitches through 4 innings. Florida 9, Kentucky 2 mid 4th.

Florida tacks on two more runs, as Kentucky elects to walk Jac Caglianone to load the bases, and Cade Kurland makes them play. Kurland gets his first hit of the CWS, blooping a two-RBI single to extend the Florida lead to 9-1. Gators 9, Kentucky 1 end 3rd.

Lineup change sparks seven-run inning for Florida baseball

To say that the Florida lineup change worked is an understatement. The Gators sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring seven runs to take a 7-1 lead. Jac Caglianone led off the game with a single, moved to second on an error, and scored on an RBI double by Colby Shelton, tying the score at 1. Luke Heyman followed with a two-RBI single, giving the Gators a 3-1 lead. Then, later in the inning, Brody Donay delivered the big blow, a grand slam extending UF's lead to 7-1. Florida 7, Kentucky 1 end 1.

What it’s like aboard Tampa’s new cruise ship Margaritaville at Sea

TAMPA — Starting Friday, a sold-out cruise will sail from Port Tampa Bay to Mexico with Parrot Heads aboard the newest ship in the Jimmy Buffett-themed cruise line Margaritaville at Sea.

We took a two-day preview tour of The Islander in advance of the first of its four- and five-night excursions to Mexico and Key West. The cruise line is known for its low prices and high-octane parties and music. The Islander is the second ship in the Margaritaville fleet, a completely refurbished 85,000-ton ship that was formerly operated by the Italian Costa Cruises.4

The first sight on board is a dramatic 14-story atrium with a giant teal Margaritaville flip-flop (and nearby pop-top) at the base. It has multistory margarita glass chandeliers, floating fish, parrots and a replica of Buffett’s own personal seaplane soaring high above the Flip Flop Bar.

With 1,105 staterooms, The Islander has double the capacity of the Palm Beach-based Paradise ship that the cruise line has operated since 2015. Islander cruises start at $229 to Mexico and Key West and start at $479 for longer trips that in 2025 will include Belize on a seven-day itinerary.

The ship sports sleek retro and tropical stylings, all in service to the fans of the late singer known for bringing a chill attitude and appreciation for sun, surf and strong drinks with a twist of lime. Buffett’s music ranges from country to rock, folk and Caribbean tales of sun-bleached days searching for a shaker of salt. That gives the cruise line a lot to work with.

The Cheeseburger in Paradise burger bar offers up a tasty smashburger lunch next to the pool at the three-story Landshark Bar. The poolside jumbo screen plays films of Buffett’s concerts, like the time in 2010 he performed barefoot in Gulf Shores, Alabama, singing “Fins” with the Gulf of Mexico glistening behind him.

The trip begins with a 5 O’Clock Somewhere Sail Away Party that even in this week’s rainy weather drew passengers to the top deck to cheer as the ship sailed under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. A giant rainbow greeted the ship as it passed under the spans of the Skyway on its first excursion Tuesday.

True to its partying nature, there are 13 themed bars and lounges sprinkled throughout the ship, each with its own signature margarita and live music at some point in the day or night. And it’s not just Buffett’s music. Tom Petty and Paul Simon tunes drift out of the lounges, and live shows range from pop acts to an electric violin.

There’s a piano bar called Bubbles, a Coral Reefer Lounge and a tip of a Panama hat to Cuba in the Havana Dreaming Sports Bar that is a sports bar by day, with marble tabletops, crushed red velvet seats, a replica of an old Chevy as a picture backdrop and lots of rum drinks. At night, it becomes a Latin nightclub with a band loudly cranking salsa and Latin pop tunes.

At the Stars on the Water Theater (named for Buffett’s 1983 country rock hit), dancers and aerialists put on high-energy shows. One, called Caribbean Heat, is set to tropical-themed pop tunes. In a new show called Conky Tonkin’ (the original name of Buffett’s pairing with Kenny Chesney in 2004′s “License to Chill”), the dancers combine a Coyote Ugly bar scene vibe with a jukebox musical of classic country tunes, from Johnny Cash to modern country hits.

“This ship is a home run ... in the making,” said veteran cruiser Harvey Horowitz, who traveled on the preview with his wife, Phyllis. The Lake Worth retirees have been on the Palm Beach Margaritaville Paradise ship many times. It’s cheap, they said, and close to their East Coast home. But this ship, at twice the size and sparkling in its newness, won them over.

The “in the making” caveat from Harvey comes from the many hiccups that a new operation understandably undergoes. The Wi-Fi broke, they briefly lost hot water in their room, and their meals were mostly up to par, though small serving sizes and some other misses gave them pause.

“But for the price, you have a lot to work with,” he said. “The layout is really easy to navigate, the staff is great and there’s lots to do. So I think this will be a home run for the area.”

Meals at the Port of Indecision Buffet or the Fins dining room were familiar cruise offerings like Cajun gumbo and Huli Huli chicken, though portions tended to be small without a lot of flair. The Mexican Cutie Cantina and a decent pizza at Frank & Lola’s are among the five complimentary dining options. There are six specialty dining options for an extra fee, ranging from JWB Steakhouse to sushi, specialty coffees and an adults-only Tiki Grill.

Charges add up quickly for bigger rooms, technology packages, fancier restaurants, express check-in, drink packages, extra fees and gratuities. Some critics have complained that such nickel-and-diming can make the cheap admission price misleading. But defenders have noted that at that price you can expect middle-of-the-road fare on the dinner plate while enjoying the sleek stylings of a newly upgraded ship.

It has a Margaritaville-inspired cornhole and mini-golf course alongside family-friendly spaces like the Caribbean Amphibian Splash and Slide and a pickleball court.

“It’s just a short trip and you get taken away to this Caribbean escape,” she said.

She said her impression was that it was going to be a booze-cruise party boat, “but this had way more options for kids and families than I expected.”
