Read some reviews of our tours

We‘ve had a truly amazing time and the trip definitely exceeded our expectations. The itinerary is great, a bit of swimming, a bit of hikking and lots of chill. It’s been the best 4 hours spent on a boat and great value for money. The area we visited is truly beautiful. The skipper Šime is really cool, he gave us good recommendations, he was very helpful and accommodating, we didn’t feel rushed at all. Last but not least, easy contact via google chat and WhatsApp.

Fantastično, odličan domaćin! Sve pohvale! Izvanredno iskustvo!

We had an amazing day on the boat! Sime was very friendly and made sure we were super comfortable. The boat itself was beautiful as well. We made a few stops on the islands, enjoyed the nature there and went for a swim. Sime really took our wishes into account and made sure the schedule was flexible. I would definitely recommend!

Lovely boat trip around Zadar, highly recommended! We made three stops, one of them by a tiny nearby island that you can explore on foot. Our guide was very thorough and told us many stories about the area and life on the islands, and you can tell he really loves what he does which is amazing! Will definitely go again if we are ever back in Zadar.

1. Full-day boat trip to Kornati National park and Telašćica Nature park

zadar-izlet-brodom-kornati-telascica

Enjoy a relaxing boat ride through the numerous islands, islets and reefs of the Zadar Riviera and meet the most indented group of islands in the Mediterranean – Kornati National Park. Kornati National park consists of 89 uninhabited islands, and the name of the park comes from the Latin word “corona” which means crown. According to legend, God created the Kornati islands from white rocks that remained unused after the creation of the world. He threw them into the sea, looked at them, and concluded that there was nothing he should fix. That was the crown of his work. During the full day trip to the Kornati and Telašćica National Park you will get to know the unusual islands of the Kornati archipelago (such as Tanjurić – looking like a small plate), and you will stop at the Telašćica Nature Park where you will be able to enjoy the bay with crystal clear sea. If you are adventurous, head to the famous “Rocks”, the largest cliff on the Adriatic that reaches a height of 161 m. There is also a salt lake in the park, which has a higher salinity than the nearby sea, while the healing mud from the lake is rich in minerals and believed to have healing properties. The boat departs from Zadar in the morning, and you will return to Zadar in the afternoon, around 17:30.

2. Full-day tour to Kornati and Telašćica with a speed-boat

Izlet-kornati-brzim-brodom

A full day trip by fast boat to Telašćica and Kornati is a real sea adventure during which you will get to know the best of Telašćica and Kornati, and you will enjoy a speedboat ride that can accommodate a maximum of 12 people. First you will stop in Telašćica in the bay Mir and experience everything it has to offer: clear sea, highest cliffs in the Adriatic and a salt lake. You will then hop on a boat and the skipper will take you to the next stop, the island of Mana in the Kornati National Park. There you will discover the famous cliffs for which the Kornati are famous, but also the remains of a rustic village built in stone for the film made during the 60’s when the island of Mana served as a movie scene and represented a Greek island. After that you will stop on the largest island in the park, the island of Kornat and you will see the mysterious fortress of Tureta. Then follows the island of Levrnaka, with deeply cut bays and the beautiful sandy beach of Lojena. On your way back, you will stop in Sali, a fishing village on Dugi otok and then return to Zadar.

3. Half-day tour to Kornati National park and Telašćica with a speed boat

Lojena-Levrnaka-Kornati-Nacionalni-park

If you can’t spend the whole day on a trip, and still do not want to miss the opportunity to visit the Kornati and Telašćica, then a half-day trip by fast boat is the right choice for you. The trip lasts 4.5 hours and you will see the magnificent cliffs in the Telašćica Nature Park and stop on the island of Levrnaka, where you will enjoy the turquoise sea of the sandy bay Lojena.

What our guests say

Don’t just take our word for it. Read some of the latest experiences...

Excellent activity. We loved it and Danko was a wonderful guide. He adapted to the group and the weather conditions. A very nice memory.

Delphine, October 2023

Superb experience, I recommend. I did this with my 80 year old grandmother, the guide was very attentive, the same with the small child also present on board. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again!

Excellent! Our super attentive guide with all the relevant information about the history of the islands.

Maria, October 2023

We were super lucky and got a private tour for two people! The guide responded individually to our wishes! Hiking shoes are important! Great trip!

Lisa, October 2023

Excellent! Good guide, interesting, informative tours. Visited 3 islands: one tiny, one small, one big.

Yaron, October 2023

Although it was a bit choppy, skipper drove so professionally that we did not feel the effects. He made sure that we had the best views of the Sunset, which was one of the most stunning I have ever seen! He then took us around the city explaining some of its history. He also made sure our glasses were topped up throughout! What an amazing experience! Thank you!

Pam, September 2023

This is a MUST DO activity! The sunset was absolutely gorgeous and we also got a wonderful history about Zadar from our tour guide. The Prosecco was such a nice bonus to relax and enjoy the city. 10/10.

Marisa, September 2023

Danko was an excellent host. He balanced providing interesting information with allowing us quiet time to enjoy the lovely views perfectly. He was quick to top up our glasses and happy to answer any questions. A perfect evening

Guest, September 2023

The guide was very nice and helpful, knew his way around and gave us an authentic tour of the city from the water.

Maximilian, September 2023

This was a really fantastic day. Lots of beautiful sightseeing and incredible information about our sail. Would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Zada. Danko was the best skipper and was very friendly and knowledgeable.

Georgie, September 2023

Very nice and interesting tour. We were able to explore 3 islands within 4 hours, which flew by. First Danko told us interesting information and then we had free time to swim, walk or eat. The speedboat was really cool 👏🏼☺️

Klaudius, September 2023

Exciting historical facts. In-depth knowledge and detailed explanations from the tour guide. We were able to tailor the tour to our individual wishes. Driving the boat was a lot of fun. The stop for swimming and snorkeling was especially great. Generally a nice tour.

Viola, September 2023

Due to rain we were unable to do anything on the beach, which was certainly not necessary for me. However, Danko had provided alternatives so that we could certainly fill the 4 hours. At the end we could taste local liqueur and grappa, with an expert explanation of how these were made. Nice trip with a great guide!

Fantastic. Wonderful speedboat wit Prosecco and amazing sunsets. 5 stars

Julie, September 2023

We had a great time. Danko takes the time to explain the history of the city to us through the monuments without overdoing it. It was very pleasant and the wine was delicious. I highly recommend this activity if you are a fan of sunsets.

Jennifer, September 2023

We went on this trip - 2 adults and 2 teenagers - not knowing what to expect, but had an amazing 4 hours. Danka is a superb skipper and brilliant guide. He made this an enjoyable and informative trip for us all. The islands are also beautiful.

Lauren, September 2023

Above expectations. Great guide, wonderful boat. Definitely a recommendation

Caroline, September 2023

Really nice. We had a great time. Great welcome. Select committee therefore top. The awesome guide 😀

Michael, September 2023

Amazing time! Wonderful sunset and Danko the guide is wonderful! Perfect balance of explaining history of Zadar as well as giving peace to enjoy the sights! Wine was wonderful, and the pours are very generous with great value for your cost, most amazing way to see the city!

Ian, August 2023

A really romantic and informative tour by a passionate local skilled skipper who was both guide and host. Friendly and knowledgeable

10:30/15:15 – Snorkeling around the sunken ship

Your first stop on your Zadar to Sakarun beach boat tour will give you a chance to snorkel around a shipwreck with the wild fish. This impressive sunken ship is located near Veli Rat , which will give you a splendid vista to Punta Bianca Lighthouse and nearby islets.

Snorkel around a majestic 76m (249ft) long shipwreck of the Italian merchant ship , explore the vivid marine world, & meet the wild fish on your Sakarun Beach Boat Tour. Located near Veli Rat, Michelle is the shipwreck of an Italian merchant ship that sank in August 1984 . Today she is very attractive diving & snorkeling spot. The wreck is partially protruding above sea level, which means it can be easily located, and it is easily accessible. Grab your snorkeling gear and enjoy an underwater adventure around this fantastic shipwreck.

In case of bad weather, strong wind and rough sea, we have an alternative route to sunken ships and Sakarun beach for maximum safety of our guests .

boat tour zadar

11:15/15:50 – Swimming & water sports on Sakarun Beach

Sakarun beach is one of the most praised beaches in Croatia , due to its 800m long sandy coastline and shallow crystal-clear sea.

Here you can opt-in for a game of “Unofficial Dalmatian sport” – Picigin , have lunch or cocktail in nearby beach bars, or just relax for a longer break at Sakarun lagoon.

Due to shallow waters, even 250 meters from the shore the depth is only 3,5 meters,  so you have a lot of space for swimming in the shallow sandy clear sea on your Zadar to Sakarun Beach Boat tour. This turquoise bay offers enough space for a perfect beach escape.

Have a beach picnic under the shade of pine trees , dip your feet in the warm sand, build sandcastles, or have a beach party with your friends! It is up to you.

Sakarun beach is an ideal beach getaway for non-swimmers and families with children . Since it slopes very gently, the little ones can splash around in the sea and play in the sand as they please.

boat tour zadar

13:30/18:30 – Salute the sun with the sea view of Zadar and Sea Organ

Before leaving your Half day Sakarun Beach Boat tour, enjoy the fascinating sea view of Zadar’s old city centre , while cruising along the waterfront boardwalk and experience a completely different impression of Zadar. Enjoy a symphony of sea and wind and listen to the Sea Organ music from the comfort of your speedboat.

Boat Tour Full Description

Zadar to sakarun beach boat tour & shipwreck.

Embark on an awesome journey across the picturesque Zadar archipelago and experience a tropical atmosphere on the Sakarun Beach. First, stop by the shipwreck of Michelle, a ship that ran aground near the north coastline of Dugi Otok.

Thanks to a very shallow reef, the ship sits at about 4-6 meters in depth, which makes it an ideal location for snorkelers . Enjoy an out-of-this-world snorkeling experience, similar to something you would watch in a movie.

Some parts of the wreck stand above the surface of the water, which means you can actually stand on some parts of the ship. After this snorkeling sensation , it is only a short cruise away from the main event of the day – the tropical Sakarun beach.

The approach to this jaw-droppingly beautiful beach can be found on the northwest shore of Dugi Otok . Once you start approaching the Sakarun beach, the incredible blue glow of the lagoon will introduce you to the nearly-unlimited range of possibilities that his incredible place holds.

You can swim, snorkel , free dive and sunbathe in the 800-meter-long Sakarun lagoon, which is also home to several very subtle and charming beach bars, that offer cold drinks and something to nibble on while you savor the magical vibe of Sakarun beach.

Let this tropical oasis lure you into the ideal summer mindset : explore the surroundings around the Sakarun beach, lay in the sand, enjoy the pristine nature, make new friends – observe the world through eyes not clouded by everyday stress and tension.

When it is time to leave, board our trusty speedboat and prepare for the return journey. Luckily, it will be anything BUT boring, since there are still two more surprises waiting for you.

The first is a quick stop, at the halfway mark. One of many military bunkers and tunnels built after the end of the Second World War will present a perfect opportunity to see something completely out of the ordinary

The second will be waiting for you at the very end of your journey, in the form of the Sea Organ, one of Zadar`s charming landmarks.

Using the movement of the sea to generate sound is what makes the Sea Organ so unique, and the music it produces will be an ideal send-off, after a day spent exploring the mysteries of the Michelle shipwreck, the beauty of Sakarun beach and the intrigue of the military tunnels .

Boat Tour Reviews

Memorable tour with a great skipper.

star icon

Our half day tour of Sakarun beach was an amazing experience thanks to the beautiful scenery, fabulous beach & character & knowledge of our skipper. As we cruised by Zadar He explained the history of the area. Our time on the beach was fantastic and super fun with the snorkeling equipment. We stopped to see the lighthouse in Veli Rat and the scenery from the top was stunning. A very memorable tour.

10/10 would recommend

The check in desk was easy to find and the team were very friendly. Our skipper was Fran- he was very approachable and was regularly checking if everyone on the boat was well/had water etc. Fran was very knowledgeable about the locations and ensured everyone in the trip felt comfortable and safe at all times.

Thanks to Captain Nino, we had a lovely day on this tour. It was the highlight of our trip to Zadar. Our family of 4 including a 12 & 10 year old had a great day snorkelling and swimming. The trip itself was amazing and we saw some beautiful scenery around Zadar. Wonderful!

Magical getaway

The whole trip was smooth, relaxing experience. Our skipper Nino was amazing. When we snorkeled he guided each of us for the best experience. Views were stunning. Beach was lovely. Cannot recommend enough.

Great tour from Zadar!

Great tour after all, we had a little cloudy day but it was superb after all. The best of all was atmosphere on board, our guide Nina was very kind and knowalable. Thank you and see you next year

We had a wonderful experience with this particular excursion. Salt lake is something significant to see and super recommended. Crews are super welcome and friendly, and fish mmm, I really started to like dalmatian cuisine.

Celine (France)

Croatia’s cheaper and quieter alternative to Dubrovnik

Zadar has yet to attract the crowds, or tourist rules, that are seen in the country's better-known cities.

zadar croatia city break cheaper dubrovnik

There’s an Ibiza-meets- Game-of-Thrones feel to the outdoor bar perched on Zadar’s city walls. Punters lounge on beanbags as low-key house music thrums, boats bob in the sun-dappled water surrounding the peninsula and there’s an air of calm that is exactly what my husband and I hoped to find when we looked for a place to escape to for a few days.

A fortress city similar to the better-known Dubrovnik, Zadar wasn’t somewhere I’d thought to visit before. Yet it appeared to tick all our boxes for a couples’ break.

There are cheap, direct flights from the UK, warm weather (highs of around 27°C in June), an Old Town packed with history and architecture, plenty of restaurants and bars, and beaches. It had nearly everything you’d find in Croatia ’s more celebrated cities, yet it is often more affordable.

Zadar waterfront view from the sea, Dalmatia, Croatia

A spot check shows that Zadar offers cheaper accommodation options than Dubrovnik with similarly rated rooms anywhere from £30 a night cheaper up to hundred pounds less. For example, the five-star Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera in Zadar has doubles available from £222 on 23 June, compared to £765 for the five-star Hotel Excelsior in Dubrovnik on the same date. Meanwhile, cost of living comparison tool Numbeo shows that restaurant prices are 12.5 per cent higher in Dubrovnik.

Croatia is more popular than ever, with tourist board figures showing a 9.7 per cent year-on-year increase in tourist arrivals in 2023 compared to 2022.

Dubrovnik and Split are among the European cities where mass tourism has become unsustainable. In 2017, Dubrovnik developed a project called “Respect the City’, with the aim of managing tourism overcrowding issues.

Measures included working with the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) to find a solution to the influx of ships arriving to the city, with a time schedule and limit on numbers to 4,500 visitors from cruise ships and not more than two cruise ships docking at one time. Other steps included moving tourist stalls, restaurant tables and excursion vendors from the busiest streets to decrease congestion.

Dubrovnik crowds don’t suggest a relaxing break, especially if you are planning a trip during the peak weeks of summer. Efforts to limit arrivals have seen an introduction of a charge to visit the city’s famous walls, with prices starting from €35.

Platz der f?nf Brunnen mit antiker korinthischer S?ule, The Five Wells Square, Zadar, Kroatien, Norddalmatien

By contrast, Zadar’s fortress walls are free to explore, and, if you visit outside the high season, you’ll have plenty of space. From the walls you can look inwards at the Old Town itself, with some of its landmarks peeping up through the rooftops, including Roman columns, the cathedral and churches.

From the walls, you can look across the harbour area where yachts and pleasure boats bob around to the more modern new town, or out to sea to some of the islands off the coast. Couples and families stroll along the promenade, stopping for a drink or bite to eat at one of many bars and restaurants.

An easy 20-minute taxi drive from the airport gets us to our accommodation, where prices start at £100 a night. It has a pool shared between the apartments and it’s 45 minutes’ walk from the Old Town, in a quiet residential area.

We split our days between lounging around and exploring, while taking in the nearby beach. A small half-moon, it is more shingle than sand, but hasn’t failed to attract families enjoying the clear warm water and a wander along the clean, paved promenade and its various snack bars.

Carry along this coast and there are more beaches , some with beach clubs, that are easy access from some of the bigger hotels that sit on the coastline. But intrigued by the city itself, we head in the opposite direction, crossing the footbridge to head inside the city walls.

Zadar’s many layers of history are told through its buildings, revealing centuries of hardship that saw it passed between empires, from the Romans to the Ottomans. Evidence of the Romans is clear to see through ruins scattered around the city, including the former forum (an empty space marks where it once sat), as well as columns and city walls and have been preserved as a Unesco site.

While the history and architecture offers plenty of reason to stay in Zadar, its good weather and affordability bring many here for a holiday. For Tom Warboys and Nicole Sleaford, 28 and 27, from Lincolnshire, cost was key.

“We tend to go on Skyscanner and put in ‘everywhere’ then look for what’s cheap,” says Tom.

“We’d heard that Split is maybe a bit more of a party place and here was calmer, so it sounded perfect.”

The cheaper, quieter alternative to the Amalfi coast

The cheaper, quieter alternative to the Amalfi coast

Jane Hodges, 59, and David Jessop, 61, from Huddersfield and Leeds, had a similar motivation.

“We’d been to Australia for a month so wanted a cheap week in the sun and the flights were so cheap,” David says, as we chat in a cocktail bar tucked down one of Zadar’s many narrow streets.

Their week’s holiday also meant they could enjoy Zadar’s proximity to some of Croatia’s popular attractions, such as the Plitvice Lakes National Park, a collection of terraced lakes joined by waterfalls that we spent four hours driving to on our previous trip to Split. From Zadar, it’s just an hour-and-a-half and easy to visit through tour companies in the city, with prices starting at around €40.

There are also islands just off Zadar that can be explored via boat, such as Ošljak, Ugljan, and Galevac. We find a restaurant, Lazaret, on Ošljak that sends a boat to collect us for a memorable dinner. It’s a 10-minute journey and costs us €17 return.

Lazaret isn’t the cheapest meal by any means, and we splash out an eye-watering £390 on the whole experience – but it’s fair to say we don’t show much restraint in ordering a full three courses, plus cocktails, champagne and wine.

However, this is definitely the exception rather than the rule in Zadar. In three days we find plenty of budget options, from slices of takeaway pizza and baked goods for a few euros through to restaurants dishing up Mediterranean menus packed with seafood, pasta and meat that set us back anywhere from £60–£100 for two courses for two and a bottle of wine.

Our short break doesn’t see us venture too far from the city itself, but there’s more than enough to keep us busy. We eye up locally made sheep’s milk cheese Pag with its distinctive tang, and sample the sweet cherry liqueur that is typical for this region.

Croatia, Zadar, sunset, people, Greeting to the Sun monument,

We also take in sights such as Zadar’s “Sea Organ’ – a modern-art-meets-music construction that plays music via the motion of the sea in tubes underneath a large set of waterfront marble steps – and the Greeting to the Sun, a 22m circle of 300 glass plates set into the stone paving where crowds gather to enjoy a sunset that Alfred Hitchcock once said was the most beautiful in the world.

He might have been right. It is just one of the many appealing things about this city – not least of which is the fact there’s still space to enjoy it.
