Guide to New York Cruise Parking (Cape Liberty, Manhattan, Brooklyn)

Unfortunately, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that parking for a New York cruise is a bit of a hassle… and expensive. As one of the most densely populated cities in America, parking is a precious resource.

Unlike other departure ports where there is plenty of space around the port for parking (including independent lots that usually charge less than the ports), that not the case in Manhattan, Cape Liberty, or Brooklyn.

That said, while you may not have as many options outside of the port as you would sailing from elsewhere around the country, each cruise terminal in the area does offer on-site parking just steps from the ship.

Below, we’ve rounded up your parking options for each of the three cruise ports servicing the New York area. This includes the official port parking and any third-party lots that also cater to cruisers.

Scroll down to find your best option, depending on the port from which you sail.

Cape Liberty Cruise Parking Options

Located on the Jersey side of the New York area, Cape Liberty is most notably home to Royal Caribbean’s ships. The port area offers a few options for parking, but expect to pay upwards of $20 per day, no matter where you decide to leave your vehicle. Here is an overview of your options…

Official Port Parking The Cape Liberty terminal offers a parking garage next to the cruise terminal, within just steps of the ship. The garage charges $22 per day to park, so for a week-long cruise, expect to shell out $150+ in parking alone.

Don’t worry about reserving a spot, as they aren’t needed. In addition, all major credit cards and cash are welcome. If you have an RV or other large vehicle (camper, etc.) then expect to pay double the daily rate. Still, it’s hard to beat the convenience of being able to drive right up to the ship and park.

  • Cost: $22 per day
  • Distance: At terminal
  • Website:   http://www.cruiseliberty.com/directions_parking.html

Park2Go This parking lot is located about 20 minutes from the cruise port, and just south of Newark International Airport. It’s certainly not as convenient as parking right at the port, but in exchange you get a much cheaper rate.

The rate is $16 per day for outside parking and $18 for indoor parking. However, we often see specials for rates of $13/$14 for parking. That savings of $9 per day off the port’s rates can save you about $50 on a week’s parking while you cruise.

There is also a free shuttle back and forth from the port. Reservations are required.

  • Cost: $16 inside | $18 outside
  • Distance: 10.5 miles | 20 minutes
  • Website:   http://www.park2go.com/seaport-parking

Newark Airport Parking It’s a bit of a workaround, but Cape Liberty’s location near Newark International Airport provides a creative way to park for your cruise.

Parking lots that cater to the airport offer per day parking for as little as $9 — more than 50% off the price of official port parking. The thing is that these parking lots don’t offer rides to the cruise port.

Instead, you’ll have to park and then find your own transportation (a taxi or Uber/Lyft ) to get to the cruise port and return after your trip. Depending on your budget, this may still be worth it versus the convenience of simply parking at Cape Liberty.

Manhattan Terminal Cruise Parking

Parking in Manhattan? Yep, it’s tough. Luckily, there is parking right at the cruise port and some other options within the area.

Official Port Parking By far the most convenient parking is the official port parking that’s located right at the cruise piers. You simply pull in, park, unload, and check in for your trip. There is no worrying about shuttles or transportation to the port. Of course, you’ll pay for this convenience.

Parking rates are $40 per day at the Manhattan Terminal. Going on a longer trip? Parking over 11 nights is a flat $400. No reservations are accepted; parking is on a first-come, first-served basis. The port accepts Visa, MasterCard, and cash. Your vehicle must be less than 8 feet high to park.

Frankly, given the expense of parking here, it’s a good idea to use alternate transportation to cruise from Manhattan .

Cost: $40 per day Distance: At terminal Website:   https://www.nycruise.com/manhattan-terminal/parking/

Manhattan Cruise Parking (ParkRight) ParkRight is located just a few blocks south of the cruise terminal, but will save you big on cruise parking. Book online and the price for a week’s parking is $29 per day and $33 for SUVs and minivans. Reservations are required.

Note that pickup trucks are not allowed.

Instead of a shuttle, a parking attendant will take you to the terminal in your own vehicle, drop you off, and then valet your car to their parking lot. When you return, you’ll need to catch a cab back to the parking lot to get your car.

Cost: $29 per day (cars) | $33 (SUV/mini-van) Distance: 1 mile | 5 minutes Website:   http://www.manhattancruiseparking.com/

ParkNSave ParkNSave offers parking lots that are just a few blocks north of the cruise terminals. Specifically, it has the 601 West 57th Street Parking Garage for cruise passengers.

You won’t save money by parking here, as the daily rate is $40 per day. If you drive an oversized vehicle (pretty much any mid-sized SUV/truck and above), then parking is $70 per day.

Reservations are definitely needed and you will need to find transport to and from the terminal. We’d suggest most people simply park at the cruise port as it’s the same price and more convenient.

Cost: $40 per day Distance: 0.8 miles | 4 minutes Website: http://parknsave.com

Brooklyn Terminal Cruise Parking

The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is not near as busy as the Manhattan and Cape Liberty ports, so that makes things a bit easier in navigating parking and embarkation on cruise day. If you are sailing aboard the Queen Mary 2, Silversea Cruises, or Princess Cruises, then the Brooklyn port will be your point of boarding.

Frankly, there aren’t many options other than the official port parking. Yes, there are lots around the city, but they don’t cater to cruisers and their prices aren’t enough of a difference to make it worth the time and hassle of parking elsewhere and then coming back to the port to cruise.

carnival liberty cruise parking

Official Port Parking The port’s parking lot is a surface lot right next to the terminal, meaning it’s only a short walk to the ship. Rates run $25 a day, with a day being anything over four hours. So on a week’s cruise, expect to pay $200 for parking.

Given that expense, it’s ideal to find alternate transportation to the cruise port if you can. If you do park here, no reservations are needed and SUVs are welcome without an additional charge. Cash and major credit cards are accepted.

Cost: $25 per day (day is more than 4 hours) Distance: At terminal Website:   http://www.nycruise.com/brooklyn-terminal/parking/

Carnival Liberty Review, Day 1: Setting Sail From Port Canaveral

Picture of Doug Parker

Doug Parker

  • February 15, 2022

Over the next five days, we are going to highlight our cruise on Carnival Liberty from Port Canaveral. Today we highlight our embarkation and interesting sail away from the Space Coast.

carnival liberty exterior

You’ve heard of the proverbial “offer you can’t refuse,” right? Well, when I saw that I could jump on a four-night sailing of the Carnival Liberty for $10 a day — before taxes and gratuities — I had to jump on it.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a short Carnival cruise, and with the total price after taxes, gratuities, and fees coming to around $200 total, this was perfect.

(Note: I call this price a once-in-a-lifetime deal, I have not seen it since.)

Carnival Liberty Cruise Itinerary

  • Day 2: Fun Day at Sea
  • Day 3: Nassau, Bahamas
  • Day 4: Bimini, Bahamas
  • Day 5: Port Canaveral

Pre-Cruise Testing

Pre-Cruise Testing Carnival

For the past 12 sailings I’ve done since cruising resumed, I’ve done the at-home BinaxNOW testing , which is both convenient and super easy.

But because I booked this sailing at the last minute, I didn’t have time to order a test. (If you’re even thinking about doing last-minute sailings, it’s worth keeping a few on hand!)

CARNIVAL LIBERTY CRUISE EMBARKATION 1

There’s been some confusion around whether or not this type of test is acceptable because you mostly hear about PCR and antigen tests. But yes, a NAAT molecular test is also acceptable, as outlined on Carnival’s website .

Parking Port Canaveral

Parking Port Canaveral

With my test result, boarding pass, and luggage in hand, I headed down to Port Canaveral. Carnival Liberty was docked at Terminal 3, the new pier that was built for Carnival’s newest ship, Mardi Gras . Parking fee-wise, I paid $85 dollars (or $17 per day).

The port’s parking garage charges on a calendar-day schedule , not by the night. For instance, because our cruise was Monday through Friday, we had to pay $17 per day x 5 days.

If you’re looking to save some of your hard-earned cash as opposed to forking it over to the Canaveral Port Authority, there are plenty of offsite park-and-cruise lots that will charge half as much and include transportation to and from the ship.

people in Port Canaveral

I parked on level three of the garage, which is where you’ll find the walkway from the parking garage to the pier. Two different members of the embarkation team checked my paperwork to make sure I was good to go and then it was off to check-in.

Since my boarding pass was already printed out, all the check-in representative had to do was verify my test result and scan my boarding pass; everything else was done online.

going to the ship terminal

The time it took to get from walking into the terminal to the ship was less than 10 minutes. Trust me, a s long as you have all your paperwork in hand, the embarkation process is flawless.

According to the embarkation employee holding the manifest, there were 2,500 guests on this sailing, which put us at about 84 percent of the ship’s 2,974 capacity.

First Impressions of Carnival Liberty

Carnival Liberty first impression

Stepping onboard Carnival Liberty was like coming home for me. The first time I sailed the ship was back in December of 2011, after it received its Fun Ship 2.0 makeover. This was the first vessel in the fleet to get the makeover, which saw the addition of Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Tequila Bar, Alchemy Bar, and other enhancements.

water slide Carnival

I’ve sailed on  Liberty  a few times since then, so I knew my way around the ship, including the layout quirk on deck three which, because of the placement of the dining room kitchen, you have to go up or down a deck if you want to walk from the front to the back of the ship.

The last time I cruised Liberty was in March 2017 when Tim McGraw performed onboard for a Carnival LIVE show, so it was nice to be back on board. It was sort of like going back in time, given that the ship looked pretty much the same, with the exception of everyone wearing masks and the signs encouraging guests to follow the current protocols.

Carnival Liberty Inside Cabin

inside cabin carnival

If you’re wondering what a $10 per-night cruise fare will get you, it’s an inside cabin on deck two (room 2402). While I do love a balcony cabin because of my space issues, the inside worked fine for this particular trip because of my work schedule.

At home, I’m typically up and in my studio pretty early, so being able to sleep in a room with no windows and cold AC was very much welcomed as I got up early on this trip as well.

standard inside room carnival

My cabin was a standard inside room with two twin beds, three closets, a small fridge, vanity area, typical bathroom, and one outlet. If you get creative, you can use the razor outlet in the bathroom if you need a second one, just make sure you keep the bathroom light on or the outlet itself will turn off.

Because this ship hasn’t had any major renovations since Fun Ship 2.0 back in 2011, there are no USB outlets in the room. That’s probably not terribly convenient for the average cruiser, let alone someone who travels with all of the equipment I use to put together the show.

brown water from faucet

One weird thing: When we turned on the faucet, brown water poured out for about 20 seconds. It slowly cleared again, and we never really figured out what might have caused it. Maybe we were the first guests to stay in the room since the ship returned to service, or maybe there were rusty pipes. Whatever the case, it only lasted a few seconds and never happened again.

After unpacking, we stored the luggage and our carry-ons underneath the bed. That’s something I’ve always loved about most staterooms I’ve encountered on cruise ships — the ability to put the luggage in a place that’s both convenient and out of the way, unlike most hotel rooms.

New Muster Drill is a Winner!

new muster drill

Our muster station was located outside on deck four and, as has been the case ever since the process was changed, it couldn’t have been easier. We checked in with the attendant who walked us through the process and then asked our room number.

Recently, Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, asked his Facebook followers if they hope to see the new muster drill process remain in place once things go back to normal. Not surprisingly, the response was an overwhelming “Yes!”

Lunch on Carnival Liberty

carnival liberty lunch

Remember I mentioned earlier that this was the ship on which Carnival first introduced Guy’s Burger Joint? Well, on the maiden voyage — and I’m not proud of this — I ate nine burgers over the course of the week.

Fast forward to 2022, and even the thought of eating more than one burger a day will destroy my digestive tract. Guy’s Burger Joint is definitely on the docket for this cruise, but it wasn’t on the schedule for day one.

smoked beef carnival

I tried to take a semi-healthy approach with a giant fresh salad from the lido, but since I was still hungry, I went up to deck 10 and grabbed a plate of Ol’ Fashioned BBQ as well. I went with chicken and beef with a side of mac and cheese. This is the same type of BBQ that is found at Guy’s Smokehouse on the other Carnival ships, just without the branding. They do have Guy Fieri’s sauces at the condiment bar, though.

RELATED: Guy’s Burger Joint [MENU]

After lunch, we went up to Diamonds Steakhouse to confirm our reservation for night three. I like to get to know the dining team and always prefer to eat in the main dining room both the first night and last night. That leaves one of the nights in between for specialty dining. (A lot of people choose to eat in a specialty restaurant the first night in order to get the free bottle of wine offered for those who do.)

Disney Cruise Line

While we were exploring, Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Dream passed us for its four-night cruise.

Exploring Carnival Liberty

carnival liberty cruise ship

After lunch, it was off to explore the ship and see how different venues had fared after being laid up for so long without guests. The ship is very ornate, featuring a lot of iron rods and dark lights. It has this really cool but at the same time slightly eerie feel to it.

Liberty is one of the ships designed by Joe Farcus and, like the other older ships on which he was involved, the style is distinctly different than what you’ll find on more modern ships in the fleet. The public areas are almost eccentric, with bright lights and unusual statuary, as opposed to newer ships which tend to have a quieter, less extreme look.

theater area carnival

We wandered through the Serenity area and past the aft pool deck, then wandered up to the mini-golf course. The ship seemed to be in good shape and ready to show us a great time.

A few things we noticed right off the bat: On this sailing, smoking was forbidden in the casino. That meant if a guest wanted to smoke, they needed to do so outside (no matter the weather). Only a few days later, Carnival announced that smoking would once again be allowed in the casino as of February 14th for all sailings.

precautionary measures carnival

Also, there were many signs reminding people where masks were required and urging them to wash their hands. But the handwashing station at the entrance to the Lido was out of service and, judging by various photos posted in Facebook groups, has been for a while. You’d think getting that fixed would be a major priority under the current circumstances.

A Quick Fix

quick repair carnival

Carnival Liberty has been plagued with propulsion issues for years. Every time they got a grip on the thruster issue, something would happen again. The three-night cruise before ours  must have been the straw that broke the camel’s back with the propulsion issue because it returned to port 12 hours early so they could get repairs done.

In 25 years of cruising, this was the first time I’d experienced a thruster being replaced while we were at the dock. It was a very cool sight to see involving cranes, trucks, dive vans, and cargo trailers along the pier. It was a huge undertaking with a lot of coordination between the underwater divers and the crew on the dock.

We finally set sail around 8 p.m, and it was a chilly sail away for central Florida with temperatures in the mid-50s.

Carnival Liberty Main Dining Room

Although I usually prefer late dining, we went with the early seating this time so that nothing would interfere with the evening’s activities. We were seated at the back of the aft dining room, which gave us a great view of the work being done on the ship. I’m sure that might have made some people nervous, but I found the whole thing fascinating.

Carnival main dining room

Tonight’s dinner was candied salmon for a starter and grilled salmon for the entree. Even though I was really eyeing the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake, I skipped dessert. After all, it’s not a Carnival cruise unless you have some, right? But it was only night one. There’d be plenty of time for that.

candied salmon Carnival

We were seated at a long table that could seat 12, but only four showed up. There’s always that awkward thing under these circumstances when you’re sitting with strangers and waiting for someone to break the ice. Fortunately, within a couple of minutes, we were all chatting and getting to know one another.

carnival cruise line sunset

I’ll admit that at first, part of me just wanted to sit with my friends, which is what I normally do. But in hindsight, I’m glad we wound up joining others. We met some new people who I was sure we’d wind up palling around with over the next few days.

Welcome Aboard Show

Welcome Aboard show

Typically, the Welcome Aboard show is done twice on the first night. But since the ship was operating at limited capacity, it was only being offered once, at 9:30, giving the folks who had late dining time to wrap up and catch the performances.

Welcome Aboard show

The Cruise Director, Dustin, walked us through the entertainment we’d be experiencing throughout the cruise, followed by the Playlist Production team giving us a small sampling of the shows they’d be putting on. The first Playlist show, Flick, is being staged tomorrow night.

This is where the first day ends because I woke up at 4 am this morning, worked until 10:30, then drove down to Port Canaveral.

T omorrow is our one and only Fun Day at Sea this voyage, and if you know me, that means we’ll be hitting the Seaday Brunch!

We’ll save you a seat.

Breaking Down All Major Cruise Departure Ports In The U.S. And What Makes Each Unique

E xperience the explosive growth of the cruise industry firsthand as we explore the major departure ports in the United States. Don’t be left behind; join the millions of satisfied cruisers who have discovered the ultimate vacation experience. But we know that hopping on board can be intimidating, especially when choosing the right port, ship, and cruise line. That’s why I’m here to guide you through it all.

Starting in the North Atlantic and working our way down to the South Atlantic, including the bustling ports of Florida, we’ll cover everything you need to know. We’ll then move on to the Gulf of Mexico and, finally, the beautiful Pacific. Learn about several American ports, from suggestions on getting to the port to a detailed list of all the cruise lines that sail from each location.

But that’s not all — I’ll also highlight each port’s unique features and attractions so you can make the most of your vacation before and after embarking on your cruise. Get ready for a vacation that gives you the most bang for your buck — starting with the perfect departure port.

Buckle in and get your popcorn; this will be a long one.

North Atlantic

The North Atlantic region has quite a few ports. It primarily sails to Bermuda, New England, and Canada. However, they also do trans-Atlantic and other specialty cruises from a few ports.

Pro Tip : Always label and prepare your luggage for easy transport . When driving, simply drive to the cruise terminal and hand over your bags. No need to fret if you need tape or a stapler — the friendly baggage handlers will assist you. Remember to show appreciation by tipping them before parking or returning your car.

Boston Cruise Port – Raymond L. Flynn Black Falcon Terminal (Massachusetts)

Simplify your cruise parking experience at the Flynn Cruiseport in the Seaport District near Boston Harbor. Park easily at Congress Street parking or take a free shuttle from your hotel. Boston Logan International Airport is just a quick 10-minute drive away. The MBTA Silver Line bus stops within one block of the terminal for even more convenience.

Parking will cost you $27 per night.

Sailing From Here: Celebrity, Holland America , Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn

Points Of Interest: Boston Fish Pier, Fenway Park, Paul Revere House, Old North Church, Boston Children’s Museum, Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum.

Brooklyn Cruise Terminal (Red Hook Section, New York)

Discover the best cruise ports in New York. Brooklyn and Cape Liberty (in Bayonne, New Jersey) take center stage, with Manhattan playing a supporting role. As a premier cruise destination, New York offers voyages to Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, and beyond.

Parking at Brooklyn Cruise Port may seem challenging, but a constant flow of arrivals and departures keeps things moving. While the $45 daily fee offers stunning views of the Statue of Liberty, other convenient options are available, such as private taxis, Uber, shuttles, or the subway. For a unique experience, consider taking the train from Penn Station or Grand Central Station.

Sailing From Here: Cunard , MSC Cruises, Princess

Points Of Interest: Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park

Fun Fact: Per CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), most cruise passengers arrive in a port city a day in advance and spend nearly $400 per person on food, hotel, and transportation.

Cape Liberty Cruise Port (New Jersey)

Parking is slightly cheaper here than at Brooklyn’s cruise port and there are overflow lots during the busy season with free shuttles available. Cars run $30 per day and RVs $60.

Sailing From Here: Celebrity , Royal Caribbean

Points Of Interest: Teardrop Memorial, Hudson River Waterfront, The Mills at Jersey Gardens (outlet mall)

Port Of Baltimore (Maryland)

I find the Baltimore cruise port one of the most accessible places to embark in the country. Parking is $15 daily (cashless) and you can walk to the terminal after parking. There is also RV parking for $30–$40 daily, depending on the size of your rig. Royal Caribbean and Carnival both offer shuttles to and from BWI airport.

Sailing From Here: Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, Princess , Royal Caribbean

Points Of Interest: National Aquarium, Inner Harbor, Maryland Zoo, Fort McHenry National Monument & Historic Shrine

South Atlantic/Florida

Welcome to the sunniest region in the world, where cruise passengers flock in droves! With state-of-the-art terminals and buzzing activity, this destination offers an incredible array of choices. However, be prepared to master the art of patience, as navigating through crowds can be challenging. As someone who has been on 54 cruises, I can attest that more than half of my voyages have departed from these ports.

Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida)

Prepare to be amazed! Contrary to popular belief, getting to Port Orlando (also known as Port Canaveral) requires a 48-minute drive, as Orlando is not on the coast. Despite the distance and expense of transportation (an Uber is $98), Port Orlando remains the country’s busiest and most powerful cruise port. Your best option is to take the cruise shuttle from Orlando (airport or hotel) to save the hassle of getting there, traffic, and parking fees. If you decide to drive, however, keep in mind that parking costs $17 per day, including RVs.

Sailing From Here: Carnival, Disney , MSC Cruises, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean

Points Of Interest: Kennedy Space Center , Exploration Tower, Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum (in Orlando), Disney, Universal, Lake Eola Park, Harry P. Leu Gardens

Port Of Miami (Florida)

Discover the colossal cruise port just minutes away from Fort Lauderdale. PortMiami is a bustling hub, welcoming an impressive average of 12 cruise ships daily and 4.1 million passengers annually. Boasting 11 cruise terminals, it is the second busiest cruise port in the country.

While you can park at the port for $22 a day, I highly recommend avoiding the chaos by opting for Uber or a hotel shuttle. With my 10 years of experience living in Florida, I found navigating the port’s parking confusing and lacking proper signage. Thankfully, there are much simpler alternatives to reaching your cruise ship.

But fear not! Despite the initial challenges, PortMiami (known as the Cruise Capital of the World ) is renowned for its efficiency and seamless operation. Like a finely tuned machine, they ensure a hassle-free experience from start to finish. Indulge in the modern marvel that is PortMiami and embark on your dream cruise effortlessly.

Pro Tip: It is important to park in the garage that coincides with your terminal letter (example: Cruise Terminal B — Multi-Level Garage B); though terminals F, G, and V all use Garage G.

Sailing From Here: Azamara Club, Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, MSC Cruises , Norwegian, Oceania, Regent Seven Seas , Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, Virgin Voyages

Points Of Interest: Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Bayside Marketplace, Wynwood Walls, Little Havana, Jungle Island

Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)

This one may throw you for a loop since Port Everglades is the cruise port you’ll want for departing out of Fort Lauderdale. It is only 3 miles from FLL/Hollywood Airport and 25 miles north of Miami International Airport. Uber or Lyft is your best bet and is relatively inexpensive. Secure parking at Port Everglades (4,000 spaces) runs $15 per day or $19 for oversized vehicles.

Sailing From Here: Carnival, Celebrity, Crystal Cruises , Cunard, Disney, Holland America, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn, Silversea, Viking Ocean

Points Of Interest: Las Olas Boulevard and Riverwalk, Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, Everglades Holiday Park

Port Tampa Bay (Florida)

Tampa is a treat to sail out of, as the cruise terminal and port are well-marked and laid out. It is secure and monitored 24/7. Parking is $16 per day, or you can use Uber or Lyft for getting dropped off or picked up. Tampa International Airport is 21 minutes from the Port Tampa Bay Cruise Terminal or 90 minutes from Orlando (MCO).

Sailing From Here: Carnival, Royal Caribbean

Points Of Interest: Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, Historic Ybor City

Port Of San Juan (Puerto Rico)

Discover why San Juan, Puerto Rico, is the ultimate destination for incredible cruise lines. From its advantageous Atlantic Ocean location to potential cost savings, this place is a true gem. If you’re planning a trip, I recommend arriving early and staying overnight to avoid airline hiccups.

While some hotels provide free shuttle services, taxis are readily available for a quick 8-mile journey to the cruise port. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to set sail from Old San Juan, which is a vacation before the cruise vacation begins.

Sailing From Here: Celebrity, Crystal, Disney, Norwegian, Oceania, Regent Seven Seas, Royal Caribbean, Silversea, Viking Ocean, Virgin Voyages

Points Of Interest: Castillo San Felipe del Morro , Old San Juan, Casa Blanca Museum, Fortaleza Street

Gulf Of Mexico

Discover hidden gems and unbeatable prices on Gulf of Mexico cruises! Escape the crowds and embark on an adventure from Galveston, New Orleans, and Mobile. Immerse yourself in vibrant cities and soak up the magic of the gulf. Don’t miss your chance to experience the best-kept secrets of these charming destinations! I plan to include these three embarkation ports in my cruising future over the next few months.

Mobile Alabama Cruise Terminal (Alabama)

While Carnival is the only cruise line that sails from Mobile, it is an excellent option for those seeking a quick vacation option between Texas and Florida. Parking will run you $18 daily, though the closest airport is Pensacola, Florida, an hour away. This is definitely a drive to the cruise port destination. Check out the Mobile Carnival Museum or the USS Alabama in your free time.

Port Of New Orleans (NOLA, Louisiana)

A boatload of ships departs the Port of NOLA, making it the 6th busiest cruise port in the country. It is in the heart of the city with a plethora of amazing things to see and do. It is also a port for the three major river cruises (my bucket list!), which adds a feature most cruise ports don’t offer. Parking runs $25 daily at the Erato and Julia Street terminals.

Sailing From Here: American Cruise Lines , American Queen Steamboat Co., Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Viking River Cruises

Points Of Interest: New Orleans City Park, Jackson Square, Mardi Gras World, French Quarter, St. Louis Cathedral, National WWII Museum

Port Of Galveston (Texas)

Discover Galveston — the vibrant heart of Texas and the state’s sole major port. With its convenient location, you’ll have easy access to all the city offers. Enjoy hassle-free parking for just $18 per day (discounts available for prepaying) and take advantage of the close proximity to the cruise terminal from the lots.

Port of Galveston’s only downside? The nearest major airport is 40 minutes away in Houston. However, worry not! Numerous shuttle services are available to whisk you directly to the cruise terminal.

Fun Fact: It is hard to believe that 2.2 million cruise passengers use this terminal annually.

Sailing From Here: Carnival, Disney, Royal Caribbean

Points Of Interest: Moody Gardens , Pleasure Pier, Seawall, The Strand

The cruise ports on the West Coast of the United States offer a wide range of fabulous cities, diverse weather, and opportunities for sailing around the area, trans-Pacific crossings, and specialty cruises.

Port Of San Diego (California)

Experience the beauty and convenience of the exceptional Port of San Diego . Getting to the port is a breeze, with various parking options and a convenient cruise ship shuttle from the airport. And that’s only some of it — many cruise lines even offer a complimentary pre-night hotel room.

I personally loved taking advantage of this option before setting sail from the Port of San Diego. Book your cruise now and let the cruise line shuttle take care of the rest. San Diego’s weather is exceptional year-round and the flights are relatively quicker and smoother than in other parts of California. I call this a stress-free cruise port.

Sailing From Here: Celebrity, Disney, Holland America, Norwegian , Princess

Points Of Interest: San Diego Zoo , Gaslamp Quarter, Balboa Park, USS Midway Museum.

Port Of Los Angeles (California)

Discover the luxury and cruise lines variety at World Cruise Center at Port of Los Angeles (actually in San Pedro, California). Arriving at this massive port is a breeze, whether driving a car or using transportation options like shuttles, taxis, or Uber. Parking is $20 per day.

Avoid the high cost of taxis and enjoy a ride from LAX for just $40 with a rideshare service. From John Wayne Airport, expect to pay around $60, though nearly $100 for a taxi. Embark on your dream cruise effortlessly and at a great price from the World Cruise Center.

Sailing From Here: Azamara , Celebrity, Crystal Cruises, Cunard, Norwegian, Oceania, Princess, Seabourn, Silversea , Viking Ocean

Points Of Interest: Santa Monica Pier, Griffith Observatory, Universal Studios

Port Of Long Beach (California)

Discover the convenient and stress-free Port of Long Beach , just a stone’s throw away from the Los Angeles cruise port. As a cruise port owned by Carnival Corporation , it offers an easier and more accessible experience than LA. Set against the backdrop of the majestic Queen Mary , this gem provides an alternative West Coast sailing experience away from the bustling cities. Located just 23 miles from LAX, you can park your car for only $23 per day. Plus, ample parking options exist for oversized vehicles adjacent to the covered garage.

Points Of Interest: Knott’s Berry Farm , Long Beach Museum of Art, Aquarium of the Pacific

Port Of San Francisco (California)

For a city this big, I was surprised that the Port of San Francisco was not busier and bigger, but honestly, it is not one bit intimidating. Parking runs around $18 per day and there are many options for getting there, including bus, Uber, Lyft, and shuttles.

Sailing From Here: Crystal Cruises, Disney, Princess, Royal Caribbean

Points Of Interest: Alcatraz Island, Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, Golden Gate Park

Port Of Seattle (Washington)

The cruise port of Seattle is your gateway to Alaska , so hopefully in your lifetime, you’ll explore this one for yourself. There are two terminals (Piers 91 and 66), with parking running $22–$27 per day, though shuttles and Lyft are the most popular ways to get there. The airport is 40 minutes away.

Sailing From Here: Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, Norwegian, Oceania , Princess, Royal Caribbean
