A guide to the very best shopping in Moscow

cheeky shopping trip

While shopping in GUM department store be sure to check out its famous glass roof © Popova Valeriya / Shutterstock

Shopping in Moscow can be quite a daunting experience – you can walk for miles without finding anything but mass-market brands and overpriced boutiques. But, if you do it right, it can also be quite fun. Here are our top tips on how to get the most out of your shopping trip in Moscow.

An interior view of a wide open mall, with a domed glass roof above.

Shopping malls

There are many shopping malls all around Moscow, but there three that double as bona fide tourist attractions: GUM, TsUM and Detsky Mir, all within walking distance from each other. GUM is one of the oldest department stores in the country. It’s famous for the glass roof designed by one of Russia’s most celebrated architects, Vladimir Shukhov.  Today it serves as a high-class shopping mall. There are plenty of luxury shops, a supermarket that sells lots of signature Russian goods and several places to eat. Head to the more expensive  Bosco Cafe with a Kremlin view or, for a budget option, try the Soviet-style cafeteria Stolovaya No 57 . GUM also occasionally hosts contemporary art exhibitions in one of its three main aisles.

The Red Square and beyond: a guide to Moscow’s neighbourhoods

TsUM  is another shopping mall from the pre-revolutionary times. It’s the most luxurious store in the city, famous for its paper bags that many Muscovites carry around or post pictures of on Instagram to let everyone know they shop there. Full of haute couture boutiques, TsUM also has a rooftop restaurant Buro , frequented by Russian celebrities. Tsentralny Detsky Mir  children's store is perfect if you are looking for a gift for a kid or want to check out its awesome viewing platform with good views over central Moscow. At just R50 per ticket it’s a steal.

Food stalls and markets

There are two food markets that are worth checking out in Moscow.  Danilovsky Market  became the trailblazer of Moscow’s foodie revolution when it got an uplift in 2017. As well as many trendy food stalls, the market also hosts lectures, film viewing and even theatre productions, and it recently opened an antiques section. It’s an architectural landmark, a masterpiece of late Soviet modernism that looks like a UFO. Food at  Usachevsky Market  tends to be a bit more pricey and upmarket. Both markets also sell plenty of fresh produce, local cheeses and cured meats.

Antiques and flea markets

Shopping can also be a way to get away from the major landmarks and explore some sights off the beaten path. Moscow’s #1 flea market is  Izmailovsky , located in and around the pseudo-historical complex 'Izmailovsky Kremlin' with its colourful walls and domes. Open daily, it’s best to come here on the weekend to catch better deals. Admittedly tacky, Kremlin has a handful of weird museums like the Vodka History Museum or Baba Yaga Museum (Baba Yaga is a Russian fairy tale character). Part of the market had been gentrified into creative cluster Vernissage , with hipster coffee shops, various workshops and Svalka , an enormous two-floor secondhand shop with everything from used books to vintage clothing.

For high-class antiques, rare books and icons head to Antikvarnaya Lavka (Antique Store) just off Bolshaya Nikitskaya street (5 Kalashny Pereulok). Here you can snag a real masterpiece – a painting or a sculpture – but the prices are quite steep.

Four great day trips from Moscow

Russian memorabilia including a picture of politicians Brezhnev and Honecker, three small trucks and a bust of Lenin

If you are looking for a more authentic place with less hustle, one option is the antiques market on the premises of vodka distillery Crystal (4 ul Samokatnaya), which you can reach by taking tram 20 to Samokatnaya ul from the exit of metro Chkalovskaya. The market is located in the basement of one of the red-brick factory buildings. There are plenty of antiques, books and various Soviet-time memorabilia, such as Stalin and Lenin busts. While at Crystal, be sure to check out great works of street art – they are all around the factory premises.

For die-hard antique collectors there’s also a place right outside of Moscow – Novopodrezkovo market (also know as Levsha market). Take a suburban train from Leningradsky station to Novopodrezkovo (approximately half an hour), cross the tracks to the other side and there you’ll find it – a treasure trove of used books, vinyl records, clothing, paintings and antique furniture.

Where to shop for Russian designs

Gosha Rubchinskiy might be the only Russian clothing designer of world renown, especially after his collaboration with Kanye West, but there are many more up-and-coming fashion stars worth checking out. One of the places to do it is KM20 , the place Moscow fashionistas, with streetwear brands from all over the world and a lot of very rare items. There's also one of the best vegetarian cafes in Moscow on second floor.

GUM shopping mall has a two-storey store devoted to Russian designers –  Sektsiya (Section). Section sells products made by 50 Russian brands, from accessories to Heart of Moscow souvenir pins. Plus there’s a bar overlooking the Red Square.

If you are not into high fashion, but still interested in getting a cool outfit with Cyrillic script, check out the creative cluster centred around two abandoned factories: Flakon and Khlebozavod . One of the biggest stores is Zaporozhets Heritage  at Flakon , which sells clothing and accessories styled after various Soviet pop culture icons. The northern part, Khlebozavod, hosts several shops like Yunost  and Khlebny  that take a more punk-rock approach to streetwear. After shopping, have a pint at a great local craft beer bar Svoboda  or a coffee at Floo .

Sputnik 1985 is a Russian clothing brand specialising in hoodies and hats with quotes in Cyrillic and retro prints. The store is located in a courtyard on Pokrovka street (19 Ulitsa Pokrovka).

99 Travel Hacks To Make Your Next Trip A Little Easier

Henah - Headshot

I’ve never cared about brand-name purses or clothing, much less cars or makeup. Instead, I spend whatever leftover money I can on travel. Traveling has exceptional “memory dividends” long after the money’s gone and is the best way to experience all the world has to offer (at least, in my humble opinion).

I’ve now been to 30+ countries and hundreds of cities—from rural northern Thailand to Moorea in French Polynesia to most of the United States—so I’ve picked up quite a few hacks here and there to make traveling the best experience it can be. Below, I’m sharing 99 of my best tips so you can spend less time planning and questioning and more time experiencing and enjoying. Got more? Share them in the comments; we don’t gate-keep here!

Wherever you’re heading—whether by plane, train, or bus—safe travels and happy exploring! 🌍

1. To save time, only pack a carry-on ; no more waiting at baggage claim!

2. If you decide to check a bag in, throw an Airtag into your suitcase, so you can always track where it is and ensure it’s reached your destination.

3. For the best possible travel deals, be flexible on your destination and dates. I’ve scored deals to multiple European cities for under $200 by leveraging that flexibility.

4. Perhaps the most important tip of all: Always buy travel insurance . Always.

5. Allocate all your spending on a credit card that racks up points which can later be redeemed for travel—my preferred option is Chase Sapphire Reserve or the AmEx Gold.

6. Sign up for credit card bonuses that offer up to 150,000 points once you hit a minimum spending bonus—I like to check Nerdwallet’s top credit card offers (updated monthly) to see the best bonuses.

7. Search for flights leaving at off-peak times (for example, mid-week, red eyes, or with a layover) if you’re trying to save money.

Prioritize early morning flights; they’re the least likely to be delayed or canceled.

8. If convenience is more important than money, prioritize early morning flights; they’re the least likely to be delayed or canceled.

9. Use Google Incognito or a VPN to search for flights. Searching on the same browser and internet connection tells the airline that you’re looking to book and allows them to hike the price up.

10. Once you find a flight you like—if you’re not ready to book—set up an alert to be notified if the price changes. If it drops, great! If not, you’ll know to book soon or keep an eye on it in case it comes back down.

11. Not sure when to go? Check out apps like Skyscanner or Hopper to find the best prices and times of year to head to your destination.

12. Sign up for loyalty programs with every airline you can; you never know when you’ll need to use them, and you can rack up miles for later use.

13. If you’re used to one specific airline, see if they have an airline-specific credit card for additional bonuses and perks. For example, United Airlines has major hubs in both our hometowns and our current cities so we have the United MileagePlus cards, which offer early boarding, free baggage, and 60,000 points each.

14. Keep an eye out for points sales , like Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals, 30% off transfer premiums, and more. (This is always a good option to keep in mind if you just need a few more points for a mostly-free flight!)

15. Look into mistake fares (deeply discounted fares mistakenly shared by an airline). They can sometimes be canceled or refunded, but many times, airlines will honor them anyway. One time, I was able to travel to Milan, Prague, and Amsterdam for $197 one-way from New York.

16. Subscribe to real-time alerts from The Points Guy , The Flight Deal on Twitter, and more.

17. If you have a few bucks to spare, sign up for flight deals from Going (previously known as Scott’s Cheap Flights). You’ll share your departure airports of choice, and you’ll receive deals right in your inbox.

18. Sign up for TSA PreCheck, CLEAR, or Global Entry to expedite the security process.

19. Once you’re past security but before you get to the gate, check out the Priority Pass, which will give you access to hundreds of lounges around the world. Both Chase and AmEx offer cards with Priority Pass access, and once you get to a lounge, you can stock up on free food, drinks, WiFi, and more.

20. Heading abroad? Use a third-party encrypted program like WhatsApp, Viber, or Signal for international texts and calls—you can avoid extra data and call charges!

Alert your credit and debit card companies about your travel so you don’t get flagged for fraud.

21. If you need access to international calls, buy a SIM card locally—you can usually find kiosks in the airport after arrival, or sometimes your carrier will offer a global SIM card for temporary use.

22. Alert your credit and debit card companies about your travel so you don’t get flagged for fraud.

23. Get a no-fee ATM for international destinations; my favorite is the Charles Schwab.

24. Only ask for ATM withdrawals in the local currency, not your native one.

25. Same for credit card charges; if you’re in Italy, pay with your card in Euros, not USD (for example). Then you’ll avoid fees and often score better conversation rates.

26. Download the airline app before you fly for easy access to your boarding pass, checking in, and seat or meal selection.

27. While you’re at it, you can check out the seat map on most flights to see what’s open and change seats accordingly.

28. You may even find an open seat in First or Business Class—consider politely asking for an upgrade. You never know if they’ll say yes!

29. If your travel plans are flexible, volunteer for a later flight when they’re offering compensation to offset the cost of the airfare.

30. If you decide to volunteer, try and wait to see if they’ll increase the compensation before you agree. Sometimes, you can get thousands of dollars in flight vouchers if you hold out long enough.

31. Buffer in extra time for delays—always.

32. Have a connecting flight? Aim for at least a 90-minute layover in between to avoid missing your flight in case of delays, security issues, etc.

33. Travel during shoulder season (i.e., not quite peak time yet). For example, if June-August is the best time of year to visit Greece, consider going in May or September for lower prices but still preferable conditions.

34. Don’t cut costs over convenience either, though—if you know you suffer from insomnia and back pain, taking a red eye in economy to save $100 may not be worthwhile. Similarly, don’t go for the cheapest hotel without thorough vetting; you don’t want to be stuck three miles from the beach without a bike because you didn’t know how far it was!

35. Check out alternative modes of transport besides the typical plane or car: Trains, bikes, public transportation, buses…the list goes on. These are often cheaper, better for the environment, and more accessible.

Create a default packing list for yourself that you can copy and tailor for each trip.

36. Create a default packing list for yourself that you can copy and tailor for each trip. This way, you’ll know you’ve included all the necessities most important to you, like specific medications, chargers, and toiletries.

37. Wear layers while in transit—it’s easier to pack your luggage, and you can stay warm (or cool) as needed.

38. If you suffer from swollen ankles or potential blood clots when sitting in one place for hours, get a pair of compression socks. There’s a reason many travel pros swear by them!

39. Another must? A reusable water bottle. Perfect for refilling inside the airport after security, carrying with you on tours, and having in case of emergency.

40. Heading to a place without clean, potable water? Don’t forget to bring a water filter or purifier for when you’re on the go.

41. Easily organize your suitcase (and save space!) with packing cubes .

42. If you’re really in need of space, consider vacuum bags to compress all your clothes.

43. If you know you’ll want to shop or bring back many souvenirs, get a secondhand suitcase at your local thrift store for cheap and fill ‘er up.

44. Don’t bring too many valuables. Many women travel pros will wear fake wedding rings to avoid burglaries or attacks.

45. Always tell someone at home what your itinerary is and where you’ll be. Even better if you can tell someone you trust locally in case of an emergency. #safety

46. Turn on location services and sharing, too, for good measure.

Print out extra copies of your passports and travel docs; keep digital copies in your email as well.

47. Print out extra copies of your passports and travel docs; keep digital copies in your email as well. Losing your passport is all too easy! 48. Need to drive worldwide? Don’t forget to pick up an International Driver’s Permit , which are readily available at most AAA locations.

49. Want to save money or avoid excess noise? Stay slightly away from downtown city centers and tourist spots—usually going even two or three blocks away can make all the difference.

50. Another way to cut costs is to consider house-sitting or couch surfing, depending on your level of comfort.

51. Hostels are another great budget-friendly accommodation option; it’s also a wonderful place to meet like-minded people and organize local tours.

52. Weigh the cost of laundry versus the cost of a checked bag. Sometimes packing light and doing laundry will be far cheaper than paying for an extra suitcase.

53. Pack a capsule wardrobe for easy mix ‘n matching for your daily #lewks.

54. Think about items you may need at a destination that you’ll end up paying a premium for later and see if you can get them beforehand. For example, sunblock at a tropical destination will be far more expensive than getting it in the off-season in the Midwest.

55. Pack an essentials kit in case you need certain toiletries or accessories while in transit—for example, a small bag with spare underwear, ear plugs, eye mask, tampons, and charging wires.

56. Carry a purse or travel bag that you can keep close on your body, closed with zippers rather than buttons or flaps. This will help stop pickpockets!

57. Pack extra snacks. Just trust me on this one! You never know when you may need sustenance and can’t find anything worthwhile.

If you can, take the day off after you get home so you can ease back into everyday life.

58. If you can, take the day off after you get home so you can ease back into everyday life. Then you can finish up any chores or errands like laundry, grocery shopping, and more without worrying about rushing back into the office.

59. In your carry-on backpack or purse, keep an extra set of clothes, a toothbrush, and undies in case your luggage gets lost. (Which is another reason why you always want travel insurance!)

60. If you’re not using data and/or are heading to a remote area, download offline versions of Google Maps and take screenshots of any information you need.

61. If you’re heading to a foreign country and the local language isn’t one you speak, download the Google Translate app. You can then converse with locals, take photos of written text to translate, and more. (This was an invaluable tool when I was stranded in northern Thailand during a downpour once!)

62. Download media a day or two before you leave, so you can access it while traveling—think audiobooks, ebooks, Netflix, etc.

63. Get the best portable charger you can afford if you know you’ll be relying on your phone throughout the trip. You’ll never regret it.

64. Pack a universal adapter so you can use your electronic devices around the globe.

Pack a universal adapter so you can use your electronic devices around the globe.

65. Don’t forget a converter too, if your electronics’ voltage doesn’t match up to the outlets abroad.

66. Getting a rental? Book the reservation on a credit card like Chase or AmEx, which offers auto insurance and collision insurance for rentals.

67. If that’s not an option, it’s well worth getting auto insurance from the rental company.

68. Take photos of everything important: The condition of your rental when you pick it up/drop it off, receipts if you’re going to be reimbursed or splitting costs, WiFi passwords, and so on.

69. Make sure you’re up-to-date on your vaccinations and shots , which vary by country. (And don’t wait until the last minute to book your appointment!)

70. Read. The. Reviews. Make sure you look for any bots or planted reviews, and keep an eye out for any red flags, whether you’re searching for accommodations, a tour, or restaurants.

71. Similarly, seek out vetted tour groups if you’re traveling alone. A few of my favorites for women include El Camino Travel , Stellavision Travel , and G Adventures .

72. Sometimes DIYing a trip can be helpful, but other times, a good travel agent is the most valuable. They’ll get access to exclusive discounts, tours, or accommodations that you couldn’t leverage otherwise.

73. If you’re considering traveling with a friend or partner, ensure your travel priorities are aligned before leaving. Nothing will be more frustrating than having a companion sleep in when you’re a morning person or dealing with a racket first thing in the morning if you’re a night owl.

74. In the same vein, learn many of your destinations’ cultural nuances and customs—it’s important to be considerate and mindful of the communities you’re visiting.

75. Heading to a faraway destination? Try pairing nearby cities together on this trip so you knock out two at once.

76. Stay hydrated, especially when traveling. We’re already adjusting to new environments, time zones, etc., and hydration is key for our bodies to adapt.

Get sunlight as early as possible when you’re in a new time zone to help reset your circadian rhythm.

77. Get sunlight as early as possible when you’re in a new time zone to help reset your circadian rhythm.

78. Napping to adjust a timezone is okay, but try staying awake the whole day and sleeping at night to beat jet lag once and for all.

79. Chew gum while taking off or landing if your ears pop while in flight.

80. Invest in a quality skin mask or moisturizer, lip balm, and lotion during and post-flight when our skin is driest.

81. Luggage scales can be clutch—if your baggage is overweight and you can’t rid yourself of any items, you’ll be on the hook for hefty excess fees.

82. Traveling with kiddos? Bring a “busy bag” to keep them entertained throughout the day, stocked with coloring books, toys, a tablet, snacks, and whatever else your little one prefers.

83. If you’re dealing with long-haul travel, you’ll want a quality neck pillow—this is mine and I’m obsessed.

84. If you can , opt for a backpack over a suitcase or duffel. There’s a good chance transportation carriers won’t bother to weigh your backpack!

Whatever you’re budgeting for your trip, add another 10-20% in case of emergency.

85. Whenever you get samples like shampoo, moisturizers, or sunscreen, throw them in your travel toiletry bag. That way, you don’t need to bring the bulk items or worry about the liquid limit.

86. Throw a lavender satchel or a dryer sheet in your bag to keep things smelling…fresh. 🙂

87. Pack at least two extra large plastic or ziplock bags for shoes, dirty clothes, etc.

88. Opt for a bright-colored suitcase so it’s easy to spot at baggage claim or while in transit.

89. If you’re flying with another person and can book your seats in advance, one of you can take the window and the other can take the aisle. That way, the middle seat will likely be left open for you both to enjoy.

90. Always keep a spare pen on you, especially if you know you’ll have to fill out customs forms or write down directions.

91. Take a picture of your car or write down where it is in your notes app so you don’t forget where you’ve parked, whether at an airport parking lot or a new hotel.

92. Bring extra wipes or a sanitizer spray for when there’s no washroom or when things need some tidying…like your tray table.

93. Whatever you’re budgeting for your trip, add another 10-20% in case of emergency.

94. Check out local walking tours in big cities; they’re often free or pay-what-you-can and are a great way to see the most important sights and get acquainted.

95. Some businesses offer deals if you book with a partner company—for example, United MileagePlus members earn savings if you book a car rental through Avis or Budget.

Travel is one of the most valuable experiences there is in life. Enjoy every moment, be mindful and respectful, and explore as much as you can.

96. Don’t forget to check if you’ll need a visa for specific countries! Or, prioritize countries where you won’t need one for ease of access and to save money.

97. Eat street food (as long as it’s cooked in front of you and looks safe!). It’s often one of the best ways to enjoy a local culture.

98. Make lunch your biggest meal—it’s usually cheaper than dinner while being just as filling.

99. Most importantly, remember: Travel is one of the most valuable experiences there is in life. Enjoy every moment, be mindful and respectful, and explore as much as you can.

⚠️⚠️ AVOID COMPANY AT ALL COST⚠️⚠️

⚠️⚠️ AVOID COMPANY AT ALL COST⚠️⚠️ Don't use these shi company sell you one holiday mess your booking up, blame you, lie to you, move you to a dump not fit for dogs and then refuse to move you and tell you to pay yourself if you want to go elsewhere. Joke of a company....AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU WANT TO ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY. Shocking customer service, first and last time using them! I booked all inclusive for 1 week to end up paying again for a new hotel while out in Morocco at room only rate, raised an issue whilst on holiday to ve told id get a refund for the new hotel in 5-7 working days 10 days later still nothing to be called by someone and basically shouted at that if I'm going to take it higher I won't let a penny back. Are they for real. My original holiday was £897 I then paid £220 for a hotel name change (they booked in my guests name altho I was lead passenger on everything else and my bank card paying.) Then they dumped me in worst hotel ever no entertainment or food for that matter, I walked around finding a new hotel to ask cheeky trip to move us, I was told pay myself or sray where they put me, with a 12 year old no entertainment and told to go sit and drink in bar that's all that was available, I don't drink nor does my 12 year old! So I paid to change to a new hotel buy room only so had to then cover food and drinks all week ontop excursions, all in all a holiday that should have cost £897 1 week all inclusive ended up costing over two grand because I used cheekytrip. And they WONT accept blame for them messing up original booking. AVOID AT ALL COST IF YOU WANT THE HOLIDAY YOU PAY FOR

No complaint ever

I’ve used cheeky trips a few times. I never add baggage or transfers so I always get the quoted price. The people complaining is adding extras like luggage and transfers. It’s based on 2 people so the price x2 is the minimum you need to pay. Always received airline tickets and booking confirmation. Couldn’t fault them at all will continue to book time and time again.

Advertised @£450, turned into £650

My partner saw a 5* holiday to Turkey all Inclusive for £225pp on cheeky trip. She live chatted to check the holiday was still available at that price, the answer was yes! I transferred the money over to her account so she could go ahead and book it. She was on the phone, a looooong loooong time, and dissapeared upstairs. After about 45mins I went upstairs and she was still on the phone to the agent. I could hear figures being mentioned. I said straight away if they are trying to charge a lot more say NO! She told me to go away, she continued in private to talk about deals etc. She is easily drawn into sales pitches and always has the fear of missing out. After about an hour she came downstairs saying it’s all booked. And eventually told me how much it cost. She said it was £650 total. It was £200 more than what was advertised but we had a cracking time there, food and drinks were fantasTic, hotel didn’t feel any where near the 5* advertised. But we’re not fussy. I always say if you can’t press a buy it now button the deal doesn’t exist! The telephone call always ends up adding money on!

I stringently told him I did not want to go ahead informed my banks fraud department just in case they tried to take payment scam scam scam scam. An amazing sunny short break

We had an amazing short break to Marakech staying at the Labranda Targa Club Aquapark. A little child-free escape for me and my partner but as soon as we saw the lovely slides we wished we'd taken our children 🤣 The hotel was very clean and comfortable with a great choice of food. Marakech itself is such a unique and beautiful place to visit. We loved making use of the free hotel bus and taking a trio into the medina for exploring and shopping. We've been to this hotel twice and would recommend and definitely return. Hopefully cheeky trip have some more great deals in the future for this hotel.

Don’t waste your on Cheekytrip prices

Don’t waste your time with this website. The prices they advertise are far from the total price they ask for when you make contact by phone or live chat (ITS A CON).. 19 Unique And Fabulous Experiences In Moscow

cheeky shopping trip

  • Destinations

Thinking of visiting Russia? When visiting such a famous city, one must, of course, visit the iconic landmarks first. Moscow has plenty of those, most of them in the center of the city, which is very well-planned for tourists. Once you’ve seen the sights that are on most travelers’ lists, it’s time to branch out and visit some of the lesser-known sites, and there are some fascinating places to see and things to do.

I know this list is long, but I just couldn’t help myself. You probably won’t have the time to see them all. But that’s okay. Just scroll through the list and choose what sounds the most interesting to you. Where possible, make sure to book in advance, as things can get crowded, especially during high season.

Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow, Russia

1. The Red Square, Kremlin, And Surroundings

Red Square (Krasnya Ploshad) is the heart and soul of Russia, and where much of the country’s history has unfolded. This is the most famous landmark in Moscow and indeed the whole country, it’s an absolute must-do! The square is always full of people and has a rather festive atmosphere!

Saint Basil’s Cathedral

This is the famous church with the rainbow-colored, onion-domed roof. The cathedral was commissioned in the 1500s by Ivan the Terrible and according to legend, the Tsar thought it was so beautiful, that he ordered that the architect’s eyes be cut out afterward, so he could never build anything more beautiful! He wasn’t called Ivan the Terrible for no reason!

Lenin’s Mausoleum

The “love-it-or-hate-it” of tourist attractions in Russia. A glass sarcophagus containing the embalmed body of Russian revolutionary, Vladimir Lenin. It may seem a bit bizarre to display the mummy of a person, but it has been there for almost half a century and the 2.5 million visitors who come each year, clearly feel the queuing and thorough body search are worth it, to be in Lenin’s presence.

Pro Tip: no photos and no loud talking are allowed inside the Mausoleum.

Eternal Flame

There is an Eternal Flame in honor of an unknown soldier on the left side of Red Square. The hourly changing of the guards is worth seeing.

The Kremlin is the official residence of the Russian president. You can see it from the outside, or you can take an excursion to one of the museums located inside. This is the biggest active fortress in Europe, and holds a week’s worth of attractions! Once behind the 7,332-feet of walls, there are five squares, four cathedrals, 20 towers, various museums, and the world’s largest bell and cannon to see. Worth a special mention is the Armory Chamber that houses a collection of the famous Faberge Eggs.

Pro Tip: You can only go inside the Kremlin if you are part of a tourist group.

Interior of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscos

2. Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theatre translates to “The Big Theatre” in Russian, and the building is home to both the Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi Opera — among the oldest and most famous ballet and opera companies in the world.

Pro Tip: It’s hard to get an inexpensive ticket, so if you’re reading well in advance of going to Moscow then try buying tickets on the official website . Last-minute tickets cost around $250 per person. If this is out of your budget, about an hour before a performance, you can try buying a ticket at the entrance from a reseller. Most can speak enough English to negotiate the price.

Tour the Bolshoi Theatre: You can take a group guided tour of the Bolshoi Theatre which focuses on the history and architecture of the theatre and behind the scenes. There’s an English language tour that lasts 2 hours and costs around $300 for a group of up to six.

GUM, a popular department store in Moscow

3. Luxury Shopping At GUM And TSUM

Russia’s main department store, GUM, has a stunning interior that is home to over 100 high-end boutiques, selling a variety of brands: from luxurious Dior to the more affordable Zara. Even if shopping is not on your Moscow to-do list GUM is still worth a visit; the glass-roofed arcade faces Red Square and offers a variety of classy eateries. TSUM, one of the biggest luxury malls in town, is right behind the Bolshoi and GUM. It’s an imposing building with lots of history, and worth a visit just for its design and its glass roof.

Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow

4. Christ The Savior Cathedral

This is one of Russia’s most visited cathedrals and is a newer addition to the gorgeous array of Muscovite cathedrals, but don’t let its young age fool you. After perestroika, in the early 90s, the revived Russian Orthodox Church was given permission to build a cathedral on this site. It did the location honors and built the largest temple of the Christian Orthodox Church. The façade is as grand as you’d expect, but it’s the inside that will mesmerize you, with its domes, gold, gorgeous paintings, and decor!

The cathedral is located just a few hundred feet away from the Kremlin and was the site of the infamous Pussy Riot protest against Putin back in 2012.

Pro Tip: Bring a shawl to cover your hair as is the local custom.

Gates at Gorky Park in Moscow

5. Gorky Park

Moscow’s premier green space, Gorky Park (Park Gor’kogo) is the city’s biggest and most famous park. There is entertainment on offer here for every taste, from outdoor dancing sessions to yoga classes, volleyball, ping-pong, rollerblading, and bike and boat rental in summer. In winter, half the park turns into a huge ice skating rink. Gorky Park is also home to an open-air movie theater and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. There is also Muzeon Art Park, a dynamic contemporary space with a unique collection of 700 sculptures. It is located right in front of Gorky Park.

6. Sparrow Hills Park

If you take a walk from Gorky Park, along the Moscow River embankment, you’ll end up in the city’s other legendary park, Sparrow Hills. Although the park doesn’t offer as many activities as its hip neighbor, it has a great panoramic view of the city

Pro Tip: You can take a free walking tour to all of the above attractions with an English-speaking guide.

River cruise in Moscow

7. River Cruising

One of the best ways to experience Moscow, and see all the famous landmarks, but from a different angle, is from the Moscow River. Take a river cruise. Avoid the tourist crowds. There are little nameless old boats that do the cruise, but if you are looking for a more luxurious experience take the Radisson Blu cruise and enjoy the sights with some good food and a glass of wine.

Moscow Metro station

8. Metro Hopping

Inaugurated in the 1930s, the Moscow Metro system is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the world. Started in Stalinist times, each station is a work of art in its own right. I’d recommend touring the stations between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. This way, you’ll be able to properly see it without the crowds. Ideally, I’d recommend taking a tour with a knowledgeable guide with GuruWalk, who will tell you stories of forgotten stations and how the history of the country is interconnected with the metro development. If going by yourself, then I definitely recommend checking out: Mayakovskaya, Ploschad Revolutsii, Kievskaya, Kropotkinskaya, Kurskaya, and Novoslobodskaya stations.

Visit the free Moscow Metro Museum: For real train enthusiasts, located in the southern vestibule of Sportivnaya station is a small free museum. Here you can take a peek into the driver’s cabin, see a collection of metro tokens from different cities, and see different models of a turnstile, traffic lights, escalator, and more.

Moscow State University at dusk

9. Moscow State University View

In his effort to create a grander Moscow, Stalin had seven skyscrapers built in different parts of town; they’re called the Seven Sisters. The largest of these buildings and the one with the best view is the main building of the Moscow State University. Although this is a little outside the city center, the view is more than worth it.

Izmailovsky Market in Moscow, Russia

10. Izmailovsky Market

Mostly known for the city’s largest flea market, the district of Izmaylovo is home to a maze of shops where you can get just about anything, from artisan crafts to traditional fur hats, handcrafted jewelry, fascinating Soviet memorabilia, and antiquities. It’s also one of Moscow’s largest green spaces. There are often no price tags, so be prepared to haggle a bit. Head to one of the market cafes for a warming mulled wine before continuing your shopping spree.

The History of Vodka Museum is found here, and the museum’s restaurant is the perfect place to sample various brands of the national drink.

Once you’ve covered the more touristy spots, Moscow still has plenty to offer, and the places below will also be full of locals! So for some local vibes, I would strongly recommend the spots below!

The skyscrapers of Moscow City

11. Moscow City

With a completely different vibe, Moscow City (also referred to as Moscow International Business Center) is like a mini Dubai, with lots of impressive tall glass buildings. Here is where you’ll find the best rooftops in towns, like Ruski Restaurant, the highest restaurant both in Moscow City and in Europe. Moscow City is great for crowd-free shopping and the best panoramic views of the city.

Art in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow

12. Tretyakov Gallery

Tretyakov Gallery started as the private collection of the Tretyakov brothers, who were 19th-century philanthropists. They gave their private collection to the government after their deaths. If there is just one museum you visit in Moscow, I recommend this one!

Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, former residence of Catherine the Great

13. Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve

Tsaritsyno was a residence of Catherine the Great more than two centuries ago. It became derelict during the Soviet era but has now been fully renovated. With its opulently decorated buildings, gardens, meadows, and forests, Tsaritsyno Park is the perfect place for a green respite in Moscow.

Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve in Moscow

14. Kolomenskoye

A 10-minute metro ride from the city center is Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve, where you can get an idea of what Russia looked like 200 years ago. You’ll find ancient churches (one dating back to the 16th century), the oldest garden in Moscow, and the wonderful fairytale wooden palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, father of Peter the Great.

Ostankino TV Tower in Moscow at night

15. Ostankino TV Tower

Built in 1967, Ostankino TV Tower was the tallest free-standing construction in the world at the time, it’s still the 8th tallest building in the world and the highest in Europe. It’s also the best observation deck, with a glass floor and 360-degree views. The speedy elevators take you 1,105 feet in next to no time.

Pro Tip: You need to book in advance; entrance is based on specific ticket times and the capacity is limited and only a certain number of tourists are allowed per day. Don’t forget your passport, you’ll need it to get through security.

The floating bridge of Zaryadye Park in Moscow

16. Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye is a newly opened, landscaped urban park so new you won’t find it in a lot of tour guides. The park is near Red Square and is divided into four climatic zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and floodplains, depicting the variety of climatic zones in Russia.

These last three suggestions are a little quirky, but all are really worth checking out.

17. Museum Of Soviet Arcade Games

Release your inner child playing on 66 arcade machines from the Soviet era! What a great way to spend a couple of hours when tired of visiting museums and palaces. The staff speaks excellent English and are happy to explain how the games work.

The rooftops of Moscow, Russia

18. Moscow Rooftop Tour

Take a 1-hour private Moscow rooftop tour with an experienced roofer. I can just about guarantee none of your friends will be able to say they’ve done it! For your comfort, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Take your camera, there are some amazing photo opportunities out there!

A pool at Sanduny Banya in Moscow

19. Sanduny Banya

This classical Russian bathhouse opened its doors in 1808 and is famous for combining traditional Russian banya services with luxurious interiors and service. If you enjoy spas and saunas, then you should experience a Russian bathhouse at least once in your life! Go with an open mind and hire a specialist to steam you as it’s meant to be done — by being beaten repeatedly with a besom (a leafy branch)! This is said to improve circulation, but is best done by a professional!

So there you have my list of things to do in Moscow. I could have gone on and on and on, but I didn’t want to try your patience! There are so many things to do in this vibrant city that you’ll definitely need to allocate several days for exploring.

Been trying to find a holiday

Been trying to find a holiday to turkey, when asked about price it jumped up by £1018 just by adding 3 bags with no transfers. When I said this was too expensive they ended the chat , I tried again and the guy was so pushy telling me to book now give him my postcode and telling me now to take the holiday.

Customer service Shouted at me and hung up the phone

Contacted the company phone line listed on the website for “sunny breaks” first person I spoke with was lovely however when I was transferred and quoted the reference number they stated that I would not get a trip for that cheap and quoted me triple the price! The man did not give me his name shouted and me and then hung the phone up! Awful!

This company is a real joke

This company is a real joke. Tried to book a holiday to Croatia….gave ref number. When we went to pay we just realised they put the wrong dates in so cancelled that one and tried again to book Morocco….long story short we ended up with flights and no hotel as it was fully booked. As it transpired the hotel was 11 hours from the airport anyway. They tried to sell us other hotels. They guy on the phone was so rude, very arrogant and completely cocky, a great advocate for the company. AVOID…AVOID…AVOID

Booked a last minute trip

Booked a last minute trip, at first been told they can't give me the offer price because is not available any more but it will update in the morning. Phoned early in the morning and my chosen hotel had not availability any more so been offered even better 4star hotel. Been told nothing just lies like it's in city centre, great nightlife, next to a shopping centre etc ended it up in the middle of nowhere, in disgusting room beds were not even made on our arrival, mold in the room and bathroom, toilet was worst then public toilet in UK, dinner room was full of smoke, barely any food and if so covered in flies... they absolutely robbed us and will never use them again... absolutely useless when I ask for help, wish I would read reviews first... horrible horrible experience stay away if you can

cheeky trip advertising scammers.

They do not check companies they advertise. Contacted with agency through cheeky trip and they have asked to provide full information about myself, date of birth, financial address, card number and security card number. When I told that I will never do that, they called me and tried to persuade me to give them my full bank details, told that I have never been abroad if I do not understand that i have to share these information. My conclusion - cheeky trip advertising scammers. I have changed from 1 to 3 stars, as cheeky trip contacted me and tried to solve it. However i think before agree to advertise any company it quite possible to investigate a little bit and refuse companies with bad reputation.

Cheekytrip are not to be trusted

Cheekytrip are different to other reputable agencies on Google because the reservation requires a phone call which is then subject to price hikes, and calls can go on for hours, days and nights! Our final experience with HolidayGlobe cost us alot of money on top of an expensive deal, as we were booked on Half Board instead of the promised All Inclusive. This may have been a genuine mistake, but their refusal to discuss both during and after the holiday makes me suspect bad intent.

CHEAKY Sh#T NOT TRIP!

Used cheakytrip.com to compare 10 different late deals to Corfu at different dates starting early August 2023. The company's you are directed to with a reference and phone number then tells you the hotels are fully booked and they have to swap the hotel to a different one or a different resort which leads to a huge hike in price. Flights are then calculated and you are given basically a brochure price or more. Not worth wasting your time with. Suggest the owners of Cheakytrip try searching and see for themselves! Better to just search for flights and call hotels directly to negotiate a price. Sorry to say but this is just website used by scam holiday companies advertising super cheap prices which they cannot provide! Myself and my wife tried for 5 different dates and locations in Corfu over the course of 5 days and every one was the same. 'Sorry this hotel is full' or 'we can't guarantee a room so you must use a different hotel' were the most frequent responses. Honestly DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!

I was conned by a cheeky trip partner company

I found a holiday on cheeky trip was with holiday globe contacted them agreed a price and they claim to book my flights and charged me the cost , on going through to reservations my holiday price increased so I said I want to cancel it . I have been advised they have booked my flights but will not give me the flight information as they want me to book the hotel transfers etc . This is a con , If I have paid for the flights then so be it but send me the information I have paid for . Holiday Globe claim they check me in and complete everything . I am not happy with this. Please people be aware the price on cheeky trip is far from the price you pay

What a waste of time at the end, massive hidden prices additional. Do not use.

I confirm the holiday was at the price as advertised, they took all my details payment details re-confirmed everything and at the last minute 20 minutes into the phone call, Oh by the way, there’s another £39 each way per passenger levy because of Ryanair! Not for any extra service or baggage just a hidden cost which if genuine would have been known to them at the beginning, but they did not disclose. Absolute waste of time shysters do not use cheeky trips due to the underhand, tactics on pricing and lack of clarity upfront. An absolute disgraceful way to run a company.

BIGGEST SCAM OUT THERE!

BIGGEST SCAM OUT THERE! I thought it was to good to be true, made a payment of £1150 my bank instantly blocked my card, found out from NatWest a day later that they’ve had multiple people get scammed by this company and that its actually holiday globe. I would 1000% advise anyone to not book with this company!!! You’ll make a payment and your holiday will look like it exists but it won’t when you go to the airport. I booked the same holiday to sunny beach Bulgaria with jet2 holidays for £200 cheaper. You take my advice or you leave it. They pay people to write good reviews. Don’t be fooled by this company..

Fake Fake Fake prices on their website to drag you in

Fake prices on their website to drag you in. I think they are comparison website. They advertise different websites and when we speak to them for the advertised price, they tell you the package has gone so you have to pay more! Why does Cheekytrip not do anything about it? Whenever you contact them, they say the deal has been booked. This is said either on live chat or they lure you in to ring them. Then they charge you whatever they like. If they dispute that the price were available but booked then why showing so many booked trips? Dont believe me? Contact them and ask them about all their packages and I think absolutely all are booked. I gave them around 15 packages, and they were all strangely booked. Why dont they just say £1 packages to pull more customers? Oh that doesnt seem realistic? All Indians with fake English names I hope this is not another of their scam companies. UPDATE 1) The prices are not subject to availability. The prices are fake. I saw a sudden drop in price whilst I was looking for the packages and communicating with them. I am sure that I was one of the first customers (if not the first) who asked for that package. They said its sold out. 2) I sent them dozens of package references from their website and asked if anyone of them is available. They said none of them are available. 3) For example I spoke to Abahram on 30/10/24 at 19:35 as I saw a few really good packages. I asked him and he said its all sold. I said okay you have dozens of not hundreds of packages under £100. Give me any package under £100pp. He said okay so you want a holiday package under £100. What else do you want under £100. He said Enjoy your day goodbye (something along the line). Basically laughing at me for asking for a package below £100. This proves almost all packages shown on their website(s) which are below £100 are actually fake as they don't get them at all. If all this is not enough evidence then you the reader )(or company), you will need to be employed by them to see it or you are someone who just does not want to believe in anything,

I have stayed at the Grand Hotel Barli a number of times. Yes it’s situated in a quite area, great for young Family’s. It is roughly 30 minutes walk to the New town for Great night life also some amazing shopping which doesn’t disappoint. In my opinion it’s the best of both worlds, lovely beach only 5 minutes walk, peace nd quiet during day.

Complete and utter shambles BEWARE

CHEEKYTRIP - PLS NOTE THAT THIS IS AN UPDATE ON THE PREVIOUS REVIEW - NOT THE SAME ONE - pls see dates - as no-one has resolved the complaint yet. If you allow these companies to use Cheektrip as a platform then you will also get their poor reviews Complete and utter shambles BEWARE! MONEY GRABBERS & LIERS!! HOLIDAYGLOBE - Advertising holidays though the Cheekytrip platform. HolidayGlobe is a leading Travel Brand under the trading name of Travelopedia (why I am adding my complaint here) - Hopefully this will be a warning to others to go to a reputable company so as not to get their hard earned money taken under false pretences. (See previous review for full details) UPDATE: 27th November 2023 I have now contacted Travelopedia and Holidayglobe numerous times now but they appear to ignore my complaint completly, probably in the hope that I will just accept the unacceptable steep hill to the hotel - even though we are disabled and it is completely unsuitable. The Manager, Allen Alexander has done literally nothing regarding the complaint, his admin staff however, appear to sign emails in his name - pretending to be him??? The staff lie in order to extort more money out of customers. eg: After being told by Rocky Guzman at Holidayglobe that I would have to pay much more for the advertised 'All Inclusive' holiday that I had booked, I contacted the Santos Monaco Hotel direct (proof available) and was informed that THIS WAS A COMPLETE LIE - the Sandos Monaco Hotel only do an All Inclusive option, they not do a 'light' option of All Inclusive and knew nothing about it!!! 21st November 2023 : I am still waiting for the Manager Allen Alexander to contact me - 5 days after he said that he would deal with my complaint? Not bothered to respond and was very reluctant to give me his email address for me to contact him directly? No Complaint Procedure in place?

Nothing bad to say

Nothing bad to say. They sorted out the travel . Transfer and everything. Kept in constant contact and always replied promptly. Obviously the prices go up when you add luggage etc but you still get a good deal with them . I was worried it might all fall apart as they don't have a website but I'd 100% ues them again as absolutely everything they sorted was perfect

The 10 Best Spring Travel Outfits at Amazon This Month — All Under $50

These comfy and stylish outfits will take you from the airport to dinner.

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

The best way to make your travels stress-free is by packing a range of comfortable, versatile staples that can be mixed and matched throughout your trip. For just that, I look to two-piece sets as the ultimate travel hack for a stylish yet cozy look that works for any destination. And my pro tip for finding the best ones? Amazon’s fashion section , of course.

And because I’ve got a few of my own vacations coming up, I’ve gone ahead and curated a list of the 10 best two-piece outfits at Amazon right now that are equal parts cute and comfortable — and all under $50. Complete with a dreamy linen shorts set to an ultra-soft sweatsuit , these picks are easy to style perfect for all of your upcoming travels.

Automet Two-piece Linen Shorts Set

One Travel + Leisure editor gushed that this on-sale set is “is lightweight, breathable, and comfortable for all-day wear, especially in the summer months when it starts to get unbearably hot and humid.” With its boxy squared neckline and elastic shorts, this linen set is the ultimate one-and-done outfit for both spring and summer. And since it's available in 20 different colors, I suggest you snag a set or two before your next vacation.

Zeagoo Women’s Button-down Two-piece Shorts Set

This 100 percent cotton set comes with a relaxed button-down shirt and drawstring shorts, a duo that's perfect for seemingly endless mix-and-match options. Wear the set together or dress up the shirt with a pair of jeans (or down over your swimsuit as a beach cover-up). I'm eyeing this set because I can style these easy breezy shorts with practically any shirt in my wardrobe. Available in sizes XS to 4XL and 26 different colorways, including brown and navy blue , the set comes in a style for everyone.

Anrabess Two-piece Knit Sweater Set

This ultrasoft knit two-piece is what travel wardrobe dreams are made of. As an Amazon best-seller , it has been dubbed “ simply gorgeous ” by shoppers — and even better, they reported that it's lightweight and breathable enough to wear in the summer Florida heat . Plus, thanks to its simple yet stylish silhouette, this set will seemingly miraculously expand your outfit possibilities with its monochrome sleeveless sweater and loose-fitting pants.

Anrabess Two-piece Knit Shorts Sweater Set

Anrabess also has a shorter version of its best-selling knit set that hit shelves not too long ago — and shoppers are already calling it a “transitional staple” that you can wear together, or separately to “extend your wardrobe.” On sale for just $36 and available in 17 different colors, it's already in my cart; I’m eyeing the classic white and black styles for my next vacation.

Anrabess Two-piece Wide-leg Set

The best two-piece sets are the ones that offer versatile pieces that double your suitcase options, and this linen blend set does precisely that. It’s complete with a pair of loose-fitting wide-leg pants and a peplum-style tank that looks great together and separately, making it ideal for long travel days, exploring a new city, and even a dinner date. Available in 23 colors, like sky blue and army green , and a size range of S to 2XL, this two-piece set is perfect for all of your upcoming warm-weather travel.

Lingswallow Two-piece Shorts Lounge Set

As far as wardrobe staples go, a pair of cozy shorts and a versatile tank go a long way. Worn together for travel, gym days, and lounging or separately with a pair of jeans, this waffle-knit set has a flexible, four-way-stretch thanks to its cotton blend that makes it up for any adventure.

Coofandy Men’s Linen Two-piece Set

Amazon also has plenty of two-piece travel outfits for men as well, starting with this on-sale combo from Coofandy. My personal go-to fabric for spring and summer is linen because of its moisture-wicking properties and a breathable feel, which is why this set is a warm-weather travel must. On sale for $43, this two-piece set is comfortable enough to wear everywhere from a vacation in the tropics to a nice brunch in your hometown. Plus, it’s available in an impressive size range of S through 5XL.

Coofandy Men’s Two-piece Shorts Set

This top-rated set has earned the highly coveted spot as Amazon’s best-selling men’s tracksuit , in part to its lightweight material and availability in plenty of stylish options that’ll turn heads wherever you go. Shoppers are also absolutely enamored with this two-piece, hailing it as a “ perfect vacation outfit .”

Prettygarden Ribbed Two-piece Set

This matching set comes with a pair of cozy ribbed drawstring pants that feature a flexible, elastic waistband and a scoop neck tank that’s both stretchy and stylish. It’s so versatile that you’ll be able to wear the tank on its own with a pair of jeans and a jacket or add the pants to your loungewear collection. It’s also 10 percent off right now and available in 15 colors, including trendy neutrals like royal blue and classic black .

Fixmatti Two-piece Sweatsuit

If you prioritize comfort during your travels, then look no further than this under-$50 matching set that comes with a cozy hoodie and a pair of extra-soft sweatpants. It’s available in sizes S to  XL and 15 different colorways. And although it'll definitely keep you snug, it's made with a lightweight yet breathable material, so you can easily customize your layers depending on the temperature of your destination or the plane cabin thermostat.
