The Broward State Attorney’s Office has not confirmed the indictments, which are legally secret until they are unsealed by a judge, but South Florida Police Benevolent Association President Steadman Stahl said the officers, who have not been named, will likely surrender in court within the next week.

“We’re extremely disappointed that after almost five years, these officers are finding themselves indicted for something they had seconds to decide,” Stahl said in a statement released by the union Monday. “It sends a chilling effect to officers in Broward County, that their State Attorney’s Office prosecutes one officer for not responding to an active shooter and now indicting officers for responding to active shooters.”

The union statement is a reference to last year’s trial of former Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson, who was charged with multiple counts of child neglect for taking cover outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the 2018 mass shooting in Parkland instead of entering the school to confront the shooter, who killed 17 students and staff.

Peterson was found not guilty . Mark Eiglarsh, Peterson’s lawyer, said it was an apt comparison.

“I’ve seen firsthand how they sacrifice their own officers,” he said. “If you’re a law enforcement officer in Broward County, you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t. They don’t take care of their own.”

The Miramar shooting unfolded Dec. 5, 2019, when ex-convicts Lamar Alexander and Jerome Hill hijacked Ordonez’s UPS truck after trying to rob a jewelry store on Miracle Mile in Coral Gables.

With Ordonez as a hostage , the men made their way to Broward, where official reports show as many as 20 law enforcement officers from six South Florida agencies were involved in the standoff at the intersection of Miramar Parkway and Flamingo Road.

Ordonez, Alexander and Hill died, as well as bystander Richard Cutshaw.

After the shooting, questions lingered about whether the police use of force went beyond what was necessary to handle the situation. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the shooting and turned its findings over to the Broward State Attorney’s Office in 2022.

Defense lawyers representing Broward police agencies said late Monday they did not believe Broward officers were among the indicted.

In an interview in December, former Hollywood police union chief Jeff Marano said he was confident the incident would ultimately be seen as a tragedy but not a crime.

“They’re going to bring in use-of-force experts who are going to show what was going through these officers’ minds when they took action,” Marano said. “We’re going to see that this was not a criminal act.”

The union statement did not indicate what charges the four officers will be facing. The grand jury could have charged anything from misdemeanor offenses to reckless endangerment and manslaughter.

I have never used a travel agency, and after this experience, if I ever use one again, it definitely won't be MK Travel. To start, I didn't intentionally use MK, I originally signed up with Pegazul Travel, which was very accommodating and answered all of my questions promptly. The owners have agencies here and in Venezuela. Apparently, being a smaller agency, Pegazul uses MK Travel as its Dominican area affiliate. Where do I begin... The idea of going to an all inclusive was really appealing, but once we boarded the bus from the airport to the hotel, our "travel agent" in the DR would not stop talking and insisting on buying excursions. We figured with all of the negative hype surrounding the locals who try to sell excursions on the beach (you are told that they will rip you off and not hold themselves responsible for excursions) that we should trust in the agency's options. We bought two excursions: one was a bus ride and tour into Santo Domingo, the other was a bus ride and catamaran trip to the island of Saona. The day of the island excursion it was raining all morning. Instead of canceling the trip or postponing it before we drove for 2 hours, the tour guy insisted on getting on the bus and getting to the area where the catamaran was waiting. Needless to say, it continued to rain and had to just drive back to Punta Cana for another two hours. An entire day was wasted in riding on the bus. When we arrived at the hotel, the travel agent, Dannys, said he would meet with us to discuss our options (going to the island another day or being reimbursed). I chose the latter option and 2 and 1/2 weeks later, I'm still waiting for my money. I have called the travel agency here in Miami and have been transferred to what seems to be every employee of that business and have yet to receive a call back or my money for the excursion that never was.

Used MK Travel in Miami on a trip to Punta Cana. We should have known they had issues when they did not return our calls to make final payment on our trip. We stayed at the Riu Bamboo in Punta Cana and were told it had just been remodeled. Did not notice anything that was outstanding. The hotel was disorganized, morale among employees was bad and they were short staffed. Poor management! I have stayed at Riu before in Costa Rica and had a very pleasant stay. On our return flight we were picked up at 8:30 a.m. from the hotel and taken to the airport. We were told that our charter flight had been delayed until 1:45 p.m. Long story short we sat in the airport for 15 hours. Our flight departed at midnight given two meal vouchers that made our group sick Tried contacting the agency when we got back but of course they did not want to hear it. Still waiting on an apology or some type of refund! I will never travel with them again. When i tried to post something on their site I was locked out! Beware of MK Travel!!! Totally unacceptable! Airport employees told us this happens frequent with their flights!!

If I could Give Zero stars I would. This company while it seemed extremely helpful and affordable during the actual booking what I got in the end was not what I paid for. When I booked I upgraded my room to one that "included internet" for the additional cost. (This was a Lie) not to mention when I got to the hotel they practically forced us into a VIP package for an additional fee over 450$ for the week to be able to have whiskey drinks and Internet service. When we arrived the VIP room was a huge Honey Moon looking room with a jacuzzi in the middle very nice if I was traveling just my spouse and I but I was with my son, No privacy in the bathroom for us to shower this was too much and we decided to go back to the regular room and they refunded me they $. (That was a good thing) It gets better... When they finally give us a regular room its by 5 PM we arrived at 11AM and check in at Hotel is at 3PM and we had to be at the airport by 3 AM the flight times and check in times were off and not convenient. Needles to say 2nd day at the trip we found a bar that served Whiskey without having VIP. And I was able to get the Internet for 25$ for 25 hours decent enough without paying 450$. The Hotel we stayed at was Be Live Grand Punta Cana and while the food was decent the Service was awful with very little staff the rooms were smelly and the daily room service was awful you would have to leave a tip and let them know to ensure your room got done each day. And the beach is full of grass not pretty like the pictures at all I could go on and on.... lol Good thing is we learned to oversee the bad and just dealt with it. Never again will I use this company or Resort.
