Everything to know about the Dior Cruise 2021 show in Italy
By Héloïse Salessy
In accordance with sanitary measures and social distancing guidelines, the House of Dior unveiled its 2021 cruise collection in Italy. Announced in June , this show was held behind closed doors in the Piazza del duomo in Lecce, Puglia, the birthplace of the father of Dior 's Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri , and a location where she spent many summers during her childhood.
Sublime Craftsmanship
Craftsmanship, the common thread of each of the collections for Dior, was once again in the spotlight. For the incredible decor of this show, Maria Grazia Chiuri called on the artist Marinella Senatore, who worked alongside a family from Lecce to celebrate the local traditions of the art of lighting. An art that notably inspired one of the flagship motifs of this show, printed on scarves in a thousand colors and embroidered on them like ornaments. Throughout the show, the silhouettes evolved to the rhythm of an orchestra, and the steps of a troupe of dancers invited for the occasion.
Secrets behind the set
In total, the making of this exceptional set, nestled in the heart of Piazza del Duomo in Lecce, required 30,000 led bulbs for the illuminations, 20 kilometers of pulled cable, 60 tons of scaffolding, 1.5 kilometers of led tube lighting to bring the artist's phrases to life. Models had 2 minutes and 25 seconds to walk the runway and the set had an assembly time of 12 days.

Multiple nods to the work of Monsieur Dior
The show saw ancestral references and magical rites rub shoulders with exceptional know-how. One of Monsieur Dior's favorite objects, the ear of wheat, was featured as a pattern on long dresses, shirts and light shorts, a nod from Pietro Ruffo to the iconic Miss Dior dress embroidered with flowers. In this same aesthetic, the Italian artist also created five drawings decorated with symbolic images inspired by illustrations from the book De Florum Cultura , published by Giovanna Battista Ferrari in 1638. As for accessories, the house's timeless classics, the Book Tote and the Saddle Bag were played off against one of the latest objects of desire by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior : the Bobby bag. Shearling jackets, bohemian dresses, denim jumpsuits, romantic blouses and tie-dye, infused with 1970s accents were all features of this show.
Because creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri paid hommage to her homeland in Italy, the fabrics and the motto “Armando e Cantando” of the Foundation Le Costantine, in Puglia, provided additional magic in the signature wardrobe of the French house while highlighting her Italian heritage.

Dior Cruise 2021: The Beauty Of Southern Italy Immortalised
Explore the collection and its new offering of cult accessories.
“A sensory pastiche of the priceless, ancestral savoir-faire of Puglia, Dior Cruise 2021 was as much about reinvention as it was history, keeping the tradition of Apulian art, design and music alive,” writes Christanthi Kaliviotis following the house’s runway presentation in July. It’s a tidy summary of the collection which bares a distinct nostalgia to travel past times. And an ode to a region which has endured so much devastation in 2020.
Following the runway, the glittering spectacle has been immortalised into stores this month and welcomes the release of Dior Cruise 2021. As travel restrictions stretch on, our desire for culture is quenched through artisanal collaborations and detailed ready-to-wear and accessories.
In an experimental expression of ancestral savoir-faire, fabrics from the Le Costantine Foundation are used for a series of jackets, including the emblematic Bar. The motto of this unique place, “Amando e Cantando1”, is woven on the back of skirts. Echoing the iconic, flower-embroidered Miss Dior dress by Christian Dior, artist Pietro Ruffo imagines a field studded with ears of wheat evoking a summer landscape. A narrative of untamed nature is transposed onto long, light cotton dresses, shirts and shorts.

The collection also sees the release of the Dior Caro bag. Clad in supple leather adorned with the emblematic cannage motif, the latest silhouette from the French house is available in two sizes. Timeless iterations include a colour offering of black, grey, beige and ivory, while the small version also ushers in shearling, raw denim and tie dye, direct from the runway. However, this must-have style will be available from January 2nd, 2021.
Other key accessories feature ‘D-Trap’ footwear – a resort-style take on the boot – and the ‘Dior & Moi’ heel, a nod to the house’s classic J’Adior slingback pump albeit with a block heel and intricate mesh upper. Dior & Moi sees three colourways as well as a flat iteration in black.
Lastly, Maria Grazia Chiuri pays homage to the Dior flagship on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris with the exclusive ‘Dior St Honoré’ tote. Highlighted by graphic, pure curves and embellished with the eternal CD signature enhanced with a delicate swivel clasp, it comes in box or grained leather, precious materials sublimated by blue, black, and latté shades and cords.

CRUISE 2021 WOMEN’S CAMPAIGN
Dior unveils images from the campaign for the 2021 cruise collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri, an homage to the richness of Puglia, a land close to her heart. Capturing the beauty of untamed landscapes and the unique aura of Lecce – where the fashion show was staged, closed to the public – Lean Lui highlights designs by the Creative Director in a singular atmosphere, imbued by the magic and power of ancient rites that are perpetuated to this day.
Through the Hong Kong-based photographer’s lens, virtuoso and pluralistic savoir-faire is celebrated and exalted in delicate dresses punctuated with precious lace, long skirts inspired by traditional Italian dress, and corsets, emblems of reinvented femininity.
Silhouettes are made all the more enchanting by charming, bucolic wildflowers rendered by the artist Pietro Ruffo, which also adorn the Lady Dior, Dior Bobby and Dior Book Tote bags in a version in sculpted and subtly openworked leather. A radiant, fairy-tale getaway that magnifies the unalterable poetry of nature in the Salento region.
At the Dior Cruise Runway Show, a Natural Beauty Look Fit For Zoom
"This COVID-19 situation doesn’t change the makeup looks that we do, but it does change the mechanisms of how we apply."

At first glance, the show staged in Puglia at the Piazza del Duomo in Lecce, could be mistaken as archival Dior footage from the extreme Before Times. There were the usual models walking a runway, an elaborate illuminated set, and a full orchestra. Backstage, a throng of beauty editors were being advised on the looks created by acclaimed Dior makeup artist, Peter Philips . Everything felt as it should be, or as it had been several months earlier, except this time, there was no live audience, and the traditional editor-and-artist interview that once happened in person was done via Zoom.
On set in Puglia, Philips explained that the backstage experience was far from the usual frantic model/artist hustle-and-bustle and more straight out of the Dr. Fauci playbook: “This COVID-19 situation doesn’t change the makeup looks that we do, but it does change the mechanisms of how we apply,” Philips explained. “It’s always important to be clean and now, in this situation, we push it to the extreme. We get the face masks, we get the shields, and I found a way with 47 models, so that each model has their own powder, powder brush, and tools."
The toughest hurdle for Philips and his team, was making last minute touch-ups minutes before the show began. “In the backstage, it’s okay because each model goes to each makeup artist, but the touch-ups are complicated,” says Philips. Once Philips knew the order in which models would walk down the runway, he divided the models in sets of ten, assigning two makeup artists to each group. "So I have a plate, with ten or eleven cups, and each cup with a name and all the products of each model," says Philips. "One assistant carries the plate and the other assistant touches up." Not a single tool was shared by any of the models. “It takes a bit of organization, but it worked well with this,” he says. “Almost like a military operation."
The resulting look was timeless, effortless beauty fit for a low-maintenance summer. “It’s about a strong, confident woman who looks radiant without being blinding,” Philips explained. “It’s about well hydrated skin and using the right products to really enhance the natural glow, a look that fits every woman." One that—most crucially—can easily be recreated while you're stuck on Zooms at home.
SKIN: Philips prepped first with Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy Super Potent Serum and Capture Totale C.E.L.L. Energy Face Cream Routine. “It helps you to set your foundation,” he says. Next, he used The Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation and Dior Skin Correct.

EYES: Philips was all about a buildable look. “The mascara [The New Diorshow Iconic Overcurl in Black] is the perfect mascara for natural makeup and you can also do elaborate makeup as well," he says. "The mascara coats each lash perfectly, and if you build it up for a very rich mascara, keep the separation for a nice fan of the mascara.”

LIPS: Philips used the Dior Lip Scrub and in the shade pink and Dior Lip Maximizer in the shade pink as well, to make it pop, in a subtle natural way.

Take an Exclusive Look at Dior's Cruise 2021 Collection, Inspired by Puglia
Crafted with the help of italian artisans..
Dior unveiled its Cruise 2021 collection, an homage to the traditional arts and crafts of Puglia, Italy. To highlight the skills of local artisans, Maria Grazia Chiuri enlisted a variety of Italian craftsmen — including embroiderer Marilena Sparasci and weavers Giulia and Lucia Starace — to help execute the collection. The new range was even presented (sans audience, in light of the pandemic), at the Piazza del Duomo in Lecce, a town in Puglia.
Dior has shared a series of exclusive images of the new collection with HYPEBAE , providing an up-close look at the meticulous craftsmanship that went into each look. A lush, romantic interpretation of Puglia, the range features floral embroidery, delicate lace gowns and woven interpretations of Dior’s classic Lady bag and Book tote. Gold jewelry celebrates the landscape of Puglia with rings , bracelets and necklaces in the shape of insects, grape leaves and flowers.

19 Unique And Fabulous Experiences In Moscow
- Destinations
Thinking of visiting Russia? When visiting such a famous city, one must, of course, visit the iconic landmarks first. Moscow has plenty of those, most of them in the center of the city, which is very well-planned for tourists. Once you’ve seen the sights that are on most travelers’ lists, it’s time to branch out and visit some of the lesser-known sites, and there are some fascinating places to see and things to do.
I know this list is long, but I just couldn’t help myself. You probably won’t have the time to see them all. But that’s okay. Just scroll through the list and choose what sounds the most interesting to you. Where possible, make sure to book in advance, as things can get crowded, especially during high season.
1. The Red Square, Kremlin, And Surroundings
Red Square (Krasnya Ploshad) is the heart and soul of Russia, and where much of the country’s history has unfolded. This is the most famous landmark in Moscow and indeed the whole country, it’s an absolute must-do! The square is always full of people and has a rather festive atmosphere!
Saint Basil’s Cathedral
This is the famous church with the rainbow-colored, onion-domed roof. The cathedral was commissioned in the 1500s by Ivan the Terrible and according to legend, the Tsar thought it was so beautiful, that he ordered that the architect’s eyes be cut out afterward, so he could never build anything more beautiful! He wasn’t called Ivan the Terrible for no reason!
Lenin’s Mausoleum
The “love-it-or-hate-it” of tourist attractions in Russia. A glass sarcophagus containing the embalmed body of Russian revolutionary, Vladimir Lenin. It may seem a bit bizarre to display the mummy of a person, but it has been there for almost half a century and the 2.5 million visitors who come each year, clearly feel the queuing and thorough body search are worth it, to be in Lenin’s presence.
Pro Tip: no photos and no loud talking are allowed inside the Mausoleum.
Eternal Flame
There is an Eternal Flame in honor of an unknown soldier on the left side of Red Square. The hourly changing of the guards is worth seeing.
The Kremlin is the official residence of the Russian president. You can see it from the outside, or you can take an excursion to one of the museums located inside. This is the biggest active fortress in Europe, and holds a week’s worth of attractions! Once behind the 7,332-feet of walls, there are five squares, four cathedrals, 20 towers, various museums, and the world’s largest bell and cannon to see. Worth a special mention is the Armory Chamber that houses a collection of the famous Faberge Eggs.
Pro Tip: You can only go inside the Kremlin if you are part of a tourist group.
2. Bolshoi Theatre
Bolshoi Theatre translates to “The Big Theatre” in Russian, and the building is home to both the Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi Opera — among the oldest and most famous ballet and opera companies in the world.
Pro Tip: It’s hard to get an inexpensive ticket, so if you’re reading well in advance of going to Moscow then try buying tickets on the official website . Last-minute tickets cost around $250 per person. If this is out of your budget, about an hour before a performance, you can try buying a ticket at the entrance from a reseller. Most can speak enough English to negotiate the price.
Tour the Bolshoi Theatre: You can take a group guided tour of the Bolshoi Theatre which focuses on the history and architecture of the theatre and behind the scenes. There’s an English language tour that lasts 2 hours and costs around $300 for a group of up to six.
3. Luxury Shopping At GUM And TSUM
Russia’s main department store, GUM, has a stunning interior that is home to over 100 high-end boutiques, selling a variety of brands: from luxurious Dior to the more affordable Zara. Even if shopping is not on your Moscow to-do list GUM is still worth a visit; the glass-roofed arcade faces Red Square and offers a variety of classy eateries. TSUM, one of the biggest luxury malls in town, is right behind the Bolshoi and GUM. It’s an imposing building with lots of history, and worth a visit just for its design and its glass roof.
4. Christ The Savior Cathedral
This is one of Russia’s most visited cathedrals and is a newer addition to the gorgeous array of Muscovite cathedrals, but don’t let its young age fool you. After perestroika, in the early 90s, the revived Russian Orthodox Church was given permission to build a cathedral on this site. It did the location honors and built the largest temple of the Christian Orthodox Church. The façade is as grand as you’d expect, but it’s the inside that will mesmerize you, with its domes, gold, gorgeous paintings, and decor!
The cathedral is located just a few hundred feet away from the Kremlin and was the site of the infamous Pussy Riot protest against Putin back in 2012.
Pro Tip: Bring a shawl to cover your hair as is the local custom.
5. Gorky Park
Moscow’s premier green space, Gorky Park (Park Gor’kogo) is the city’s biggest and most famous park. There is entertainment on offer here for every taste, from outdoor dancing sessions to yoga classes, volleyball, ping-pong, rollerblading, and bike and boat rental in summer. In winter, half the park turns into a huge ice skating rink. Gorky Park is also home to an open-air movie theater and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. There is also Muzeon Art Park, a dynamic contemporary space with a unique collection of 700 sculptures. It is located right in front of Gorky Park.
6. Sparrow Hills Park
If you take a walk from Gorky Park, along the Moscow River embankment, you’ll end up in the city’s other legendary park, Sparrow Hills. Although the park doesn’t offer as many activities as its hip neighbor, it has a great panoramic view of the city
Pro Tip: You can take a free walking tour to all of the above attractions with an English-speaking guide.
7. River Cruising
One of the best ways to experience Moscow, and see all the famous landmarks, but from a different angle, is from the Moscow River. Take a river cruise. Avoid the tourist crowds. There are little nameless old boats that do the cruise, but if you are looking for a more luxurious experience take the Radisson Blu cruise and enjoy the sights with some good food and a glass of wine.
8. Metro Hopping
Inaugurated in the 1930s, the Moscow Metro system is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the world. Started in Stalinist times, each station is a work of art in its own right. I’d recommend touring the stations between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. This way, you’ll be able to properly see it without the crowds. Ideally, I’d recommend taking a tour with a knowledgeable guide with GuruWalk, who will tell you stories of forgotten stations and how the history of the country is interconnected with the metro development. If going by yourself, then I definitely recommend checking out: Mayakovskaya, Ploschad Revolutsii, Kievskaya, Kropotkinskaya, Kurskaya, and Novoslobodskaya stations.
Visit the free Moscow Metro Museum: For real train enthusiasts, located in the southern vestibule of Sportivnaya station is a small free museum. Here you can take a peek into the driver’s cabin, see a collection of metro tokens from different cities, and see different models of a turnstile, traffic lights, escalator, and more.
9. Moscow State University View
In his effort to create a grander Moscow, Stalin had seven skyscrapers built in different parts of town; they’re called the Seven Sisters. The largest of these buildings and the one with the best view is the main building of the Moscow State University. Although this is a little outside the city center, the view is more than worth it.
10. Izmailovsky Market
Mostly known for the city’s largest flea market, the district of Izmaylovo is home to a maze of shops where you can get just about anything, from artisan crafts to traditional fur hats, handcrafted jewelry, fascinating Soviet memorabilia, and antiquities. It’s also one of Moscow’s largest green spaces. There are often no price tags, so be prepared to haggle a bit. Head to one of the market cafes for a warming mulled wine before continuing your shopping spree.
The History of Vodka Museum is found here, and the museum’s restaurant is the perfect place to sample various brands of the national drink.
Once you’ve covered the more touristy spots, Moscow still has plenty to offer, and the places below will also be full of locals! So for some local vibes, I would strongly recommend the spots below!
11. Moscow City
With a completely different vibe, Moscow City (also referred to as Moscow International Business Center) is like a mini Dubai, with lots of impressive tall glass buildings. Here is where you’ll find the best rooftops in towns, like Ruski Restaurant, the highest restaurant both in Moscow City and in Europe. Moscow City is great for crowd-free shopping and the best panoramic views of the city.
12. Tretyakov Gallery
Tretyakov Gallery started as the private collection of the Tretyakov brothers, who were 19th-century philanthropists. They gave their private collection to the government after their deaths. If there is just one museum you visit in Moscow, I recommend this one!
13. Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve
Tsaritsyno was a residence of Catherine the Great more than two centuries ago. It became derelict during the Soviet era but has now been fully renovated. With its opulently decorated buildings, gardens, meadows, and forests, Tsaritsyno Park is the perfect place for a green respite in Moscow.
14. Kolomenskoye
A 10-minute metro ride from the city center is Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve, where you can get an idea of what Russia looked like 200 years ago. You’ll find ancient churches (one dating back to the 16th century), the oldest garden in Moscow, and the wonderful fairytale wooden palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, father of Peter the Great.
15. Ostankino TV Tower
Built in 1967, Ostankino TV Tower was the tallest free-standing construction in the world at the time, it’s still the 8th tallest building in the world and the highest in Europe. It’s also the best observation deck, with a glass floor and 360-degree views. The speedy elevators take you 1,105 feet in next to no time.
Pro Tip: You need to book in advance; entrance is based on specific ticket times and the capacity is limited and only a certain number of tourists are allowed per day. Don’t forget your passport, you’ll need it to get through security.
16. Zaryadye Park
Zaryadye is a newly opened, landscaped urban park so new you won’t find it in a lot of tour guides. The park is near Red Square and is divided into four climatic zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and floodplains, depicting the variety of climatic zones in Russia.
These last three suggestions are a little quirky, but all are really worth checking out.
17. Museum Of Soviet Arcade Games
Release your inner child playing on 66 arcade machines from the Soviet era! What a great way to spend a couple of hours when tired of visiting museums and palaces. The staff speaks excellent English and are happy to explain how the games work.
18. Moscow Rooftop Tour
Take a 1-hour private Moscow rooftop tour with an experienced roofer. I can just about guarantee none of your friends will be able to say they’ve done it! For your comfort, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Take your camera, there are some amazing photo opportunities out there!
19. Sanduny Banya
This classical Russian bathhouse opened its doors in 1808 and is famous for combining traditional Russian banya services with luxurious interiors and service. If you enjoy spas and saunas, then you should experience a Russian bathhouse at least once in your life! Go with an open mind and hire a specialist to steam you as it’s meant to be done — by being beaten repeatedly with a besom (a leafy branch)! This is said to improve circulation, but is best done by a professional!
So there you have my list of things to do in Moscow. I could have gone on and on and on, but I didn’t want to try your patience! There are so many things to do in this vibrant city that you’ll definitely need to allocate several days for exploring.

Lady Dior Meets Lady Liberty at the Brooklyn Museum
Maria Grazia Chiuri staged a powerful, hopeful Pre-Fall 2024 show surrounded by art in the outer borough of New York
Pairs of neon hands forming diamond shapes hung over the runway. No, it wasn't an cheeky ode to Brooklynite Jay-Z. These pieces were created for the show by the feminist conceptual artist Claire Fontaine, who is actually the artists James Thornhill and Fulvia Carnevale. In addition to the runway artwork, there was also a piece inside the museum’s main entrance: a slideshow of work from the 1970s by Brooklyn-born artist Suzanne Santoro, exploring the iconography and genealogy of the female body throughout time.
The art was, of course, curated for the occasion by Dior creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri—it wouldn’t be a Chiuri show without it. Blending art and fashion has become one of her hallmarks.
So it’s fitting she chose the Brooklyn Museum as the setting for her first-ever runway show in New York. It’s also where the brand held its annual arts gala and 2021’s behemoth archive exhibition “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams.” Beyond that, New York City holds a special place in both Chiuri’s heart and Dior’s history. As she wrote on Instagram this past weekend: “Ever since my arrival at Dior in 2016, I have had the dream of presenting a collection in this incredible cultural center. The Brooklyn Museum has been my first stop in every trip to New York for the past eight years.”
In many ways, despite the big-ticket venue, the stars, and the after-party with artist and Sonic Youth alumna Kim Gordon performing, this was a tender moment for Chiuri, and overall, the mood was celebratory and joyous. She has always loved New York personally and creatively, and the connection between the city and the house of Christian Dior has served as a great source of inspiration for her throughout her eight years at the helm.
In this latest collection, several different ideas were at play, but all were anchored by Dior’s connection to the city. In 1948, Monsieur Dior opened his first international ready-to-wear business and called it the Christian Dior New York collection. The designer tailored these clothes to the women of New York specifically, introducing new silhouettes that were less strict and structured, and more in line with the sportswear boom of the time, which coincided with women entering the workforce en masse.
For the updated versions presented last night, Chiuri played with wisp-thin knit and jersey fabrics used in beautiful, fluid long dresses that moved seductively with the models as they walked. There were also trench coats and skirts printed with renderings of the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower, as well as an ’80s-esque tracksuit paired with a Dior Saddle bag. Both were painted with a mash-up of the American and French flags, a motif originated in 1966 by former Dior creative director Marc Bohan, who died last fall.
In addition to exploring the house’s roots through the cultural lens of the Big Apple, Chiuri also referenced the boyish charms and enchanting spirit of screen legend Marlene Dietrich, which she conjured with short suits, fringy minidresses, tailored jackets, and tuxedo shirts. There were also lovely Old Hollywood–era gowns in rich velvets and silks, some with crystal chainmail too. As is typically the case with Chiuri’s designs, this collection had a feminine bent, held together by a focus on clothes that let their wearers exude unabashed, effortless confidence, whether through the striking palettes of jet black and smoky gray or the sheer fluidity of the fabrics clinging to the body.
Chiuri tends to pull from a multitude of inspirations when it comes to the layers baked into her collections, and this big Brooklyn field trip was no different. She blends ideas, artists, references, and house codes in an effort to say something more, something deeper in her position as one of few women at the top of the luxury fashion ladder. That’s what is more important about her work as a designer, and it can be hard to achieve, considering the commercial demands of a huge luxury fashion machine like Dior.
Dior Pre-Fall 2024
Heritage and art were at the fore in this collection, and beyond the core New York references, another grounding idea was freedom, best represented in those fantastic jersey and lightweight knit dresses that any woman today—in Paris or New York or anywhere in between—would find strength in, because their construction allows the wearer to embrace her singular shape, curves, and inherent sensuality. Also, these are clothes meant to travel with women in the world, wherever their complex lives may take them. In many ways, Chiuri’s emphasis on freedom in the context of American style is a poignant one, at a time when this country is embroiled in a terrifying election year and women’s rights are under attack. Surrounded by Claire Fontaine’s illuminated hearts, there was so much joy in Chiuri’s interpretations of freedom and a sense of subtle but striking empowerment in the clothes. That’s where Chiuri’s bold artistic vision and artful attention to craft always shine through: in her ability to translate a simple, well-tailored silhouette into something profoundly moving.

Moscow is a Volga River cruise port, Russia's capital and largest city (population over 12,2 million, metro 17 million). Moscow City covers a total area of approx 2610 km 2 (970 mi2). By population, the city is ranked the world's 14th largest. Moscow is one of the Russian Federation's all 3 federal cities - together with St Petersburg and Sevastopol .
Being Russian Federation's capital, Moscow is a major economic, political, scientific and cultural center, as well as Europe's biggest city.
According to Forbes 2013, Moscow has been ranked as the 9th most expensive city in the world by Mercer and has one of the largest urban economies, being ranked as an alpha global city according to Globalization and World Cities Research Network. It is also one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the world according to MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index. Moscow is the northernmost and the coldest megacity and metropolis on the Earth. It's home to Ostankino Tower, the tallest free-standing European structure; the Federation Tower, the tallest European skyscraper; and the Moscow International Business Center.
Moscow is situated on Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia, which makes it the most populated inland city in the world. Moscow city is well known for architecture, particularly its historic buildings like Saint Basil's Cathedral. With over 40% of its territory covered by greenery, it's one of the greenest capitals and major cities in Europe and the world. Moscow is the seat of power of the Russian Government, being the site of Moscow Kremlin, a medieval city-fortress that is now the residence of the President of Russia. Moscow Kremlin and Red Square are among the several World Heritage Sites in the city.
Moscow has 2 passenger terminals, North River Terminal (Rechnoy vokzal) and South River Terminal. The regular ship routes and cruises along Moskva and Oka rivers are used mostly for entertainment. North River Terminal (1937-built) is currently the main hub for long-range routes along the river. There are 3 freight ports that serve Moscow.
In late-July 2021 the city announced plans to incorporate a fleet (unspecified number) of fully electric passenger ferries into its public transportation network from summer 2022, the goal being to reduce the dependence on cars.
- The boats are designed with length ~22 m (72 ft), passenger capacity 42, modern amenities (Wi-Fi, USB charging points, tables for working commuters), spaces for storing scooters and bicycles.
- Moscow Transport confirmed that two routes (with max daily capacity ~16,000 passengers) have already been mapped out.
- Passengers will be able to pay via bank cards, the city’s Troika card (smart card for travel by any public transportation) or biometric payment cards. Those with monthly/yearly public transit tickets will use the boats at no extra cost.
- The new electric ferry service is up to 5 times faster (in comparison to other city public transports) and ~2 times faster than by car.
Moscow cruise terminal
Moscow's cruise terminal is called North River Terminal or River Station ("Rechnoy Vokzal" / "ÑеÑной вокзал").
The terminal was opened in 1937 and is one of 2 passenger terminals (the other being South River Terminal) of the city's river transport. North River Terminal is the main hub for long-range (including cruise) shipping routes.
South River Terminal (above photo) was opened in 1985.

Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dior New York landed in Brooklyn on Monday night with a megawatt front row.
While the pre-fall collection, which hits stores soon, was previewed by fashion media in December and is currently being globally promoted via Dior’s latest campaign , its Brooklyn Museum-based runway show was all about celebrating the Parisian house, and Chiuri’s close relationship with New York City. And boy was it a full house, complete with Rosamund Pike , Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlize Theron, Naomi Watts, Rachel Zegler, Diane Kruger, Michelle Williams, New Jeans’ singer Haerin and more .
In a preview with WWD on Sunday , the creative director recalled her frequent travels to the city since she was 18; dreams of holding a Dior show here; admiration for the museum’s dedication to curating global, feminist artworks, and the relationship between house founder Christian Dior and his French-conceived, New York-made Christian Dior New York collection in 1948, as seen in the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum in 2021.
At the show, Chiuri drew many parallels between the past and present, immediately seen via two art installations of historical feminist works by Suzanne Santoro, and contemporary neon works of the feminist art collective Claire Fontaine (from duo Fulvia Carnevale and James Thornhill) that lined the walls of the runway in the Beaux-Arts court. The symbolic, neon “Double Double” hands that were part of the set were, in fact, modeled after drawings of the hands of Santoro, Chiuri, the curators and seamstresses involved.
“Maria Grazia is an extraordinary person because she’s, first of all, very generous, because she shares this crucial space on the catwalk with art. These artworks could rival with her clothes, but she doesn’t see it that way. And in that sense, she’s really visionary,” Carnevale said of the creative director’s knack for curating creativity across mediums and eras.
The idea continued through the clothing.
When Chiuri previewed the look book-shot collection with WWD’s Miles Socha in December, the 116 looks leaned into the soigné, gender-bending style of Marlene Dietrich.
On Monday night, Dietrich was clearly present in the mix of masculine tailoring and feminine glamour — youth-tinged tuxedo separates; Bar jackets; English menswear tweed tailoring, and evening gowns (slim, sensual black dresses, or a black-and-white number that directly nodded to the dress Dietrich bought from Lucien Lelong, mentor of Dior). But inside the Brooklyn Museum walls, the New York vibe was also front and center with a handful of looks made exclusively for the show. On the runway, with Yoko Ono’s music bumping, the city’s sexy, edgy and raw mood pulsed through each style.
Nods to American sportswear included a very sportif take on the Christian Dior Bicentennial 1976 Franco American hybrid flag silk scarf, reimagined as a ‘90s-nostalgic pullover windshirt with track pants (which also came with Dior logos, which will certainly be a commercial hit), or graphic “New York-Paris” leggings worn with a leather peacoat.
During the preview, Chiuri said while in New York she often sees girls in their short dresses — fewer clothes — but layered with trenchcoats. Her fabulous, flapper-like, micro-sequin embroidered and beaded fringe dresses would certainly fit right in. Also on point: the on-the-go streetwise mentality of sneakers and shopping bags on the runway. Comfort and ease, from day to night, were key for pre-fall .
“When you go [out] in the city, you can have different locations and moments, but you don’t come back home, so everything is with you,” she said.
“Because the opportunity that we have today, with textiles but also with new knowledge, is to translate the references in a way that is more wearable for everyday. Prêt-à-porter is about being wearable and easy also for travel,” she said of the lightweight, 1940s-inspired hammered satin, crushed velvet and crepe dresses, and the slips worn beneath large coats, including a select number in quilted Cannage nylon.
“For me, it’s more of an investment to have a beautiful coat, because you use it more. I think it’s more functional — something that’s durable, you can use many times over years and you can mix it in different ways,” Chiuri said of the myriad investment-worthy styles, such as a stealth leather aviator jacket (with painted Franco American flag motif) paired with a crisp white shirt, tie and below-the-knee skirt — perfect for those New York shoebox apartments.
