With Skipper Pete as your guide

Pete started spending time on boats from the age of three. Then to school, sailing was part of his PE lessons. That was only the beginning.

From time in the Navy, being a medic for world-record-breaking freedivers, meeting some rather unfriendly pirates on more than one occasion, even making two transatlantic journeys under his own sail.

Pete is the true definition of a waterman.

“What a memorable sun-drenched afternoon on board Liberty, with Pete looking after us!  We’d been let down by another charter and Pete stepped in at the last minute to save a special day: thanks so much for your flexibility.

Cruised down the Carrick Roads, moored up off St Anthony’s Head, paddle boarded and swam in clear green seas with grey seals only 5m from us!

Pete is a friendly knowledgable local guy, and the whole experience was as close to having your own motor launch as you’re going to get (better, in fact, because we didn’t have to hose down and clear up!).

Thank you so much – would certainly recommend!”

— Simon, Liberty Boat Charter guest

We hope to raise awareness of the need to keep our Marine wildlife and bird populations safe and healthy, and by working with British Diving Marine Life Rescue and their seal hospital, Cornwall seal group research trust and Cornwall wildlife trust- marine Strandings Network, we try to give our charter guests as much information as possible regarding these local wildlife communities.

We have informal talks aboard giving valuable and fascinating insights into these incredibly important Marine creatures.

We have a large population of Grey seals in and around the River Fal, and numerous visiting and native cetacean species including large pods of common & Bottlenose Dolphins, Porpoises, and several species of Whale including Minke, Fin and even Humpbacks.

Also an incredibly diverse Avian community, including Grey Herons, Common Egrets, Cormorants and Shags, we were also lucky enough to have a pair of mating Ospreys last year too.

We truly do have a vast and beautiful array of marine species, and its imperative we all do our part to not only keep them healthy but hopefully increase their numbers through awareness and each of us playing our part to achieve this.

Take a tour round Liberty

When you arrive for a cruise with us, you’ll be greeted by Pete on land.

Once you step aboard, we’ll pop the kettle on, whilst you’re given a tour around the boat, as we point out the life raft onboard and other necessary safety features.

As you make your way up to the upper teak decked fly bridge, you’ll find 360° panoramic views, with plenty of seating and beautiful tables for your books, binoculars and beverages.

She is powered by twin 200hp Volvo Penta Engines, which make her very capable and safe.

Spaces to suit all weather & winds

You’re also welcome to lounge on the sheltered rear sun deck, laid with Burmese teak, with two large bench seats, and teak tables giving access to the main saloon area & all interior facilities.

And if you’re a wild swimming fan, the large swimming platform at the rear is perfect for easy and safe swimming and paddle-boarding.

All guests are more than welcome to take the helm (under watch from the skipper) in the sunshine. Or inside from the weather tight wheelhouse.

If you’re on holiday and have packed light…

Don’t worry, we have binoculars to view wildlife from a responsible distance

We even have a silk hammock for the ultimate chill-out experience!

And two stand-up paddleboards for exploring secret coves.

To make sure you’re fuelled throughout your cruise…

You’ll have access to free hot and cold (non-alcoholic) drinks on all our charters. As well as well-kept refrigeration, also crockery and cutlery for any food you would like to bring.

Don’t forget the pristine toilet and wash facilities, phone and camera charging ports too and onboard WIFI.

If you’re planning on a dip in the sea…

The spacious and comfortable interior can easily seat your group in comfort and is equipped with heating to keep you cosy on cooler days.

Ideal for cold water swimming fanatics.

“A Seafaring Delight in Cornwall!”

“From the moment we stepped on board, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that made us feel like old friends. The boat itself was not only impeccably maintained but also provided us with jaw-dropping views of Cornwall’s stunning coastline.

Pete’s wealth of knowledge about the area added a fascinating layer to the journey, with intriguing stories and insider tips on hidden gems.

The undisputed highlight, after the wonderful wildlife, was the chance to witness the breathtaking sunset over the Cornish horizon – a moment that will forever be etched in our memories. Pete’s passion for his work shone through, elevating our experience to something truly extraordinary.

Our boat charter with Liberty Boat Charter was more than a delight; it was an adventure of a lifetime.

A sincere thank you to Pete and the entire team for crafting memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime. We’re already counting down the days until our next voyage with them in 2024!”

Head to Market Strand, where you will find Pizza Jockeys, an independent dog friendly pizza hangout with a retro flavour, Wednesday to Saturday. The innovative kitchen team take their time to create ingredients and some of the most delicious dough we’ve ever tasted.

A gastro pub and restaurant with a maritime vibe in a prime position at the top of Falmouth’s High Street, The Star & Garter is our go-to dog friendly spot in Falmouth for when we want to indulge in some hearty food to a backdrop of dreamy estuary views.

The Orgia, located on Church Street, is the sister to The Bottle in Newquay. Aiming to being Cornwall’s first restaurant with a dedicated skin contact wine list, The Orgia focuses on smaller plates and the wine of course. Dogs are welcome but space can be tight.

This minimalist little wine bar and bottle shop is located in the centre of Falmouth and offers a great space to sit and enjoy some unusual varieties of wine, paired with delicious sharing boards with your four-legged friend at your heels.

The Pandora Inn - Restronguet Creek

There’s a reason The Pandora Inn has become one of Cornwall’s most iconic dog friendly destination-pubs; it’s one of those crowd-pleasing spots that could quite happily rely on its views alone, but thankfully, oodles of passion and energy lie behind the deliciously hearty menus and super-friendly service.

Harbour House - Flushing

The Working Boat

The Working Boat is located beneath The Greenbank Hotel. Very dog friendly and the pawfect spot to enjoy good pub food and drinks whilst taking in the views across Falmouth and the harbour.

Beacon Coffee

A must for all coffee lovers – Beacon Coffee serves up some great tasting coffees as well as cakes. Cosy indoor seating area as well.

Trebah Garden

Trebah is possibly our favourite of the Cornish gardens, offering an epic display of colour and texture, set within a beautifully sheltered wooded-valley that gently slopes down to Trebah’s secluded beach.

Passing the impressive castles of St Mawes and Pendennis, the ferry route takes you on a journey across the Carrick Roads where time stands still. As well as the castles, you see many large ships, the working docks of Falmouth, Black Rock (a local isolated shipping hazard) and, if you’re lucky, some of the dolphins, seals and basking sharks that regularly visit the harbour. There is an abundance of great things to see and do on both sides of the crossing as well as the breathtaking views on board.

The third largest, natural deep water harbour in the world, Falmouth is an active port with a vibrant culture. Home to the award winning National Maritime Museum Cornwall as well as the impressive Pendennis Castle .

St Mawes has recently been voted one of UK’s ‘hippest’ places and when you visit, it’s easy to see why. The stunning scenery, luxury hotels and elegant restaurants centered around the old world harbour along with the quaint cottages and characterful pubs means St Mawes is a must to explore. If you venture a bit further, you’ll find yourself in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; The Roseland.

The Duchess of Cornwall, our newest ferry, was handcrafted by local boat builders Cockwells in 2008 and is the first ferry to be constructed in traditional wood for over a generation. Capacity is never a problem as each ferry can carry up to 100 passengers and covered seating is provided in case we get some of that ‘Cornish Liquid Sunshine’.

Since 1827 the ferry running between St Mawes and Falmouth has seen a multitude of vessels operating on this well established route. Since its inception, over 50 million passengers have made this historic passage.

Dog friendly boat trips in Cornwall

DFC BlogHeader28 - Dog friendly boat trips

Taking your dog out onto the water can be great, especially if your dog doesn’t like to be left alone and you want to enjoy a nice day out. We’ve rounded up some great dog friendly boat trips in Cornwall. As always, do contact us if you know of a dog friendly boat trip that you would like us to add to the list.

Call ahead or just turn up to the kiosk on the Prince of Wales quay at Falmouth and enjoy a 45 minute trip around Falmouth Harbour with Mike Pill and his team. Dogs are allowed, and we were accompanied by Charlie, the incredibly well behaved Jack Russell terrier on our trip. Charlie like many dogs gets distressed if he is left alone for too long, so his owners got to enjoy their harbour cruise safe in the knowledge that Charlie was having fun too. The cruise takes you past the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, huge military and civilian ships at the dock and past £80 million plus superyachts being refitted at Pendennis shipyard. You also discover the tankers hidden from WWII bombers beneath Pendennis castle, and sail by St Antony lighthouse and St Mawes on the other side of the harbour. A lovely little trip  fishingtripsfalmouth.co.uk

Explore two beautiful and vibrant fishing villages at either side of St Austell Bay and enjoy this 35 mintue crossing between the two.  You may not see basking sharks, dolphins, gannets or the odd warship (but you might!).  You can be sure of an interesting and enjoyable day out. Arrive early to get your seat. Well behaved dogs are welcome and they travel on board for free. Adult returns cost £14.  www.mevagissey-ferries.co.uk

helford-river-cruises

Helford River Cruises offer a memorable boat tour of the Helford River on the Hannahmolly, a traditional Cornish boat licensed for 12 people and the river cruise is a great activity for all ages. Trips leave from the Budock Vean Hotel foreshore which is a beautiful short walk  through their award winning gardens.  An experienced boatman guides you through the river, lined with ancient oak woodlands and deep sheltered valleys with an abundance of birds and other wildlife . Cruise by Trebah and Glendurgan gardens, over to Helford village, then meander up river and into Frenchman’s Creek returning via Port Navas village and the Duchy Oyster Farm. Trips normally take about one and a half hours and the team contacted Dog Friendly Cornwall specifically to let us know that dogs are welcome on the trips if the boat is booked as a private charter. This can take up to 12 people and costs from £200 (£16.67 per person)  helfordrivercruises.co.uk

Their pride and joy and vessel Tethra was originally built in Looe in 1971 to long line for mackerel and worked until the late 80s. For a dog-friendly day out in Falmouth, treat your canine to a scenic boat trip up the Fal and the nearby Helford River, perhaps making a stop at the National Trust Trelissick Gardens. Although four-legged friends aren’t allowed in the formal gardens, they’re welcome to run free in the surrounding parkland and sniff out some great woodland walks around the estate, before enjoying a dog treat at Trelissick’s café with dog-friendly seating outside. Trebah Gardens is another horticultural gem, around a 15-minute drive away from our dog-friendly Falmouth accommodation, which welcomes dogs throughout its garden on leads. Our Cornwall dog-friendly guide has even more top tips for days out in the area.

We have paw-picked our pet-friendly accommodation to showcase some of the best dog-friendly cottages Falmouth has to offer. Woofers can enjoy safe and enclosed gardens while you make the most of your home-from-home in this flourishing town. Your dream pet-friendly holiday in Cornwall awaits!
