Travellers with fresh ice cream in Kas, Turkey

Uncover a world of authentic, mouth-watering food.

Food brings people together. It anchors you in the present moment. That’s why, years after a trip, you can still remember the taste of fresh, juicy olives in Greece , or the fragrant smell of pho simmering on the stove in Vietnam . By pairing the classic grassroots Intrepid Travel style with a focus on food, you’ll get up close and personal with the world's most exciting food cultures. It might be spoiling your tastebuds with flavor-filled curries in Sri Lanka , mastering the art of making soba noodles in Japan or sharing a meal with Buddhist monks in South Korea .

Created with the culinarily curious in mind, these are real, local experiences with a foodie twist: one part culture, one part adventure and three parts delicious. From bite-sized trips to gastronomic odysseys, we’ll get you munching, crunching, sipping and slurping just like the locals. Hungry?

Ceviche is the unofficial national dish of Peru. It's made by marinating cubes of raw fish and seafood in lime juice, onions, salt and aji amarillo chilli peppers, and is served cold with sweet potato chunks, plantain chips and corn on the cob.

This saffron-flavored rice dish originated in Valencia hundreds of years ago when hungry servants would combine rice with leftovers from Moorish kings' lavish banquets. The dish varies across the regions, but the mixed version with chorizo, mussels and prawns is the most popular internationally.

Struggling to choose just one curry? Fear not. A thali comprises several eye-popping dishes served on a large plate. The dishes typically include grains, lentils, vegetables or meat curries, chutney, raita, pickles and pappadum – creating the perfect balance of sweet, salty, bitter, sour, astringent and spicy flavors.

When traveling through the Balkans, treat your tastebuds to delicious charcuterie boards loaded with traditionally preserved meats, cheeses, vegetables and bread. Some of the most popular Balkan meats to try include cevapi (homemade grilled sausage), njeguši (dry-cured ham) and pljeskavica (Balkan burger).

There’s a whole world of Thai noodle dishes to discover beyond the obvious (and delicious!) pad thai. Khao soi is a chicken and coconut noodle soup from northern Thailand. It’s packed with vibrant aromatics and is served with crispy fried noodles, shallots and fresh lime wedges on top.

Considered to be Israel’s national dish, these balls of deliciousness (made with ground chickpeas, herbs and spices) are a must-try plant-based dish. They’re usually served on a platter or in a warm pita pocket filled with pickled vegetables, crunchy cabbage salad and generous lashings of creamy tahini sauce.

We love the highlights, but for us, the real magic is found off the tourist trails. Our trips combine iconic sites with hidden gems that you’ll only discover with Intrepid. We’re talking mornings exploring the Taj Mahal, followed by a Mughlai cooking class with a passionate home cook.

Whether you’re perusing markets, hunting down the best street food bites or learning how to cook centuries-old family recipes at a homestay, there’s no better way to get the inside scoop on a destination – and its culinary traditions – than with an expert local leader by your side.

Big coaches and flag-toting tour guides don’t cut it for us. With a maximum group size of 12, our groups blend in with the locals and have plenty of opportunities to interact with chefs, street food vendors and group leaders. It also means you can really connect with your fellow foodies.

What food can I expect?

Expect to eat the local way. We didn’t call these trips ‘food adventures’ for nothing. Forget Michelin stars and 20-course degustations – our local leaders will help you get behind the scenes of local food culture, track down the freshest street food, discover the most authentic local restaurants and reveal the traditions and techniques that make these destinations so deliciously mouth-watering.

From lining up with locals for fresh tortillas in a Mexican market to hopping between Logrono’s thriving tapas bars, they’ll show you local food from the perspective of those who eat it every day.

How does a Food Adventure differ to a regular Intrepid trip?

All of our food trips have been designed with one thing in mind – experiencing the best local food on the planet. But we all know that there’s much more to food than just eating it – so whether it’s browsing markets for fresh produce, sizzling up a storm in a cooking class or meeting a local street-food legend, we’ve stuffed your plate to the brim.

And once you’ve devoured all the local food you can handle, we’ve made sure our Food Adventures are rolled up into a burrito with the lot so you won’t miss out on the iconic sights and authentic cultural experiences that are found on all our Intrepid trips.

Is there any freedom & flexibility in the itineraries?

Like all Intrepid itineraries, we’ve made sure our food trips provide free time between activities, allowing you to digest a destination either with your group or on your own.

You might spend the morning exploring a buzzing local market with your guide and cooking a delicious local dish with your group before heading off on your own to wander the marbled halls of a museum or cycling through ancient alleys.

We’ve also left plenty of mealtimes free of organized activities, which gives you the flexibility to ‘get your gourmet on’ at a fine dining restaurant or simply seek out your own ‘real food’ adventure.

Needless to say, your leader will be there every step of the way with suggestions and recommendations.

What transport is used?

Sometimes, the best way to eat like a local is to travel like one too. That could mean jumping on a boat to discover the flavors of the Mekong Delta, riding the Tokyo subway to a sake bar or rattling along in a rickshaw in pursuit of Agra’s finest chaats. We love to use local transport because it gives us a chance to experience everyday local life from a new perspective.

What is the accommodation like?

Whether you’re spending the night in an ancient fortress or in the home of a local family, most of our trips include a memorable overnight stay that is designed to make your trip extra memorable. When we do choose to use hotels, all of our accommodation options are in our Original style, which means a mix of 2-3 star establishments that are safe, clean and comfortable.

How do Food Adventures benefit local communities?

We help support local economies by purchasing snacks and meals from street-side vendors, dining in local restaurants, eating seasonal produce from the destination, and using local guides throughout our itineraries.

Many of our trips incorporate visits to community projects, and we choose locally-owned accommodation wherever possible. We are committed to a style of travel that is culturally, environmentally and socially responsible.

Why does every Food Adventure include a plant-based meal?

Plant-based foods generally have a much lower carbon footprint than animal-based foods, and incorporating more plant-based eating into our diet is a major opportunity to mitigate and adapt to climate change. As Intrepid continues to innovate in ways to reduce our impact on the environment, including a delicious meal that showcases local fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds is just one way that we are investing in the health of our planet.

What about vegan travelers?

We do our best on all our trips to accommodate dietary requirements (including vegan diets), and our Real Food Adventures include at least one plant-based meal. If you want a more tailored experience, that's where our Tailor-Made team can step in. We can use our 30 years of experience and regional specialists to help you create your perfect vegan food adventure.

What is a food tour? They’re your ticket to diving deep into the soul of a new place, where its flavors and stories come alive. Think of them as your culinary compass, guiding you through the streets with bites and sips that define the local culture.

Here’s some advice we swear by: schedule a food tour for the first day you’re in town. It’s like meeting a new friend who shows you around, letting you in on all the secret spots while you feast on dishes you wouldn’t have stumbled upon otherwise.

Our foodie travels in Modena , Bologna , and Mazatlán were game-changers, filled with unforgettable tastes like those legendary drunken tacos and the best Parmigiano Reggiano ever.

Food tours aren’t just about eating up local delicacies. They’re a bridge to understanding the place’s heritage and heartbeat, all through the eyes of passionate local guides.

What is a Food Tour?

A food tour is an adventure for your taste buds, guided by a knowledgeable local passionate about their city’s cuisine and traditions. It’s a journey through the heart of a destination, exploring themes like markets, bakeries, or even wine tasting, depending on your interests. Often including tastings of food, wine, or liquor and insights into food production, food tours are a deep dive into local flavors and culinary practices.

At Tasty Itinerary, we think of it as a “foodie adventure” – a unique opportunity to sample, learn, and fall in love with local eats and drinks you might otherwise miss, all while having fun and trying new things.

graphic of a foodie tip and opinion on food tours

A Food Tour Looks Like This

 • Meet and Greet : Your guide will welcome you at your meeting point, provide an overview of the tour you’re about to take, and introduce the city’s highlights.
 • First Bite : You’ll have your first taste, usually at a local bakery or café, sampling the city’s typical breakfast fare. Unless it’s an afternoon or evening tour.
 • Culinary Exploration : Part of a food tour is embarking on a walking tour through the city, stopping at local markets, eateries, and specialty shops to taste a variety of local specialties.
 • Diverse Dining : Experiences may include on-the-go street food tastings and-or sit-down meals at restaurants.
 • Learn and Taste : The food they introduce all comes with a story—learn about its history, production, and cultural significance.
 • Insider Tips : This is one of the most valuable parts of a food tour. Your guide will provide personal recommendations at other must-visit spots to eat, drink, and local gems to explore.

Practical Tips to Book a Food Tour

Now that we know what a food tour is, here are some practical tips to help you book and take a food tour during your next vacation.

slicing jamon during food tour in girona

During a private food tour in Girona, Spain , hubby got a lesson on how to slice jamón. And I fell in love with one of my favorite pastries to date, the local pastry of Girona called a Xiuxo.

1. Do Your Research

First things first: do some homework.

 • Ask friends or family who’ve visited the destination about their food tour experiences.
 • Read reviews on tour companies and individual guides on platforms like Viator , WithLocals , and Devour Tours .
 • Join travel Facebook groups for insider recommendations.
 • Aim for high-rated tours and rave reviews because these tours are vetted for.

2. Check What’s Included

food tours

Not all food tours are created equal.

 • Read the description of the itinerary. See how many stops are planned and what kind of tastings are in store.
 • Are you into paying for the guide and then paying for the food you choose to eat during the tour, or does an all-included fee sound more cost-effective?
 • Sometimes, splurging a bit on a private tour can offer a different perspective, and you can tailor it as you wish.

Foodie Tip: Above all, embracing new flavors and experiences is at the heart of what makes a food tour truly memorable.

3. Find a Tour That Fits Your Budget

Your budget will dictate a lot of your choices. Food tours can range from modest to extravagant, especially in cities like Rome, Paris, or New York, where the cost of living (and dining) is higher. Weigh the experience against the expense to find your sweet spot.

4. Check the Meeting Point and Schedule

We tried Tigella, a typical food from Modena, for the first time during a food tour. We had never heard of it until then.

Logistics matter. Look at where your food journey starts and ends and how it fits your accommodation and transportation plans. Timing is just as crucial; you want a tour that syncs up with your day without making you rush or miss out.

Pro Tip: Book your tour around breakfast or lunchtime, or make it a dinner adventure. That way, it doubles as a meal, filling you up with delicious experiences.

5. Communicate With Your Tour Company and Guide

tortellini being made by hand during a food tour in bologna

On a food tour in Bologna, we visited a pasta factory where several ladies made tortellini by hand.

Got questions? Dietary restrictions? Need to cancel or reschedule? Get in touch with your tour provider early on to smooth out any wrinkles before they become crinkles. A little pre-tour communication goes a long way in ensuring your food tour is as seamless as it is scrumptious.

Foodie Tip: We recommend touching base with your guide before you arrive; their insider tips on where to eat and what to see can be as valuable as the tour itself. You can start planning and making reservations.

Where to Book a Food Tour?

We always start our research and book most of the tours on these sites with great success. It’s a great starting point in finding one that fits your needs.

What is a food tour called?

A food tour goes by many names: culinary tour, foodie tour, gourmet tour, but here at Tasty Itinerary, we prefer “foodie adventure.”

How would you describe a food tour?

A food tour is an exciting experience for food enthusiasts, guided by a local expert passionate about showcasing their city’s best culinary offerings and traditions. It’s a chance to immerse oneself in the distinctive flavors of a location, accompanied by a fellow food lover.

food tours

It’s common to visit fresh local markets and specialty stores during food tours.

Why do people go on food tours?

People go on food tours to sample and learn about local eats and drinks they might miss if they were exploring on their own. Spending time with a local foodie makes the experience unique, as who better to learn from than someone passionate about local cuisine? Plus, it’s just fun to eat and try new foods!

How does a food tour work?

A food tour typically starts with meeting your guide, who leads you through 5 to 8 culinary stops, offering tastes and sips of the locale’s specialties. These tours can be private or in small groups of 6 to 10 people, lasting about three to four hours to ensure a more personal and manageable experience. The goal is to keep things intimate, making navigating and soaking in every delicious moment easier.

What is included in a food tour?

What you’ll get on a food tour varies with each company or guide. Typically, tours include a mix of guided walks and tastings of local foods and drinks, ensuring you get a hearty experience of the local cuisine. The amount and variety of food depend on the tour and location, but the aim is always to leave you happily satisfied.

Be aware that some tours offer just the guide’s expertise, leading you through the city’s culinary spots, where you pay for what you eat as you go. This approach lets you pick what tempts your taste buds but requires more flexibility and budgeting. Always check the tour details to know exactly what’s included and make the best choice for your appetite and curiosity.

Are food tours worth it?

Yes, we believe food tours are worth it and a great way to learn about a destination through its food, as it is part of its culture. The value you get from what you eat and drink and the bonus of having a great guide to show you around make it an amazing and worthwhile experience.

drinking coconut milkshake in mazatlan

It was hot in Mazatlan, so I wore a tank top, shorts, and a hat on our food tour.

What do you wear to a food tour?

Unless specified, be comfortable and stay casual. Always wear comfortable shoes as you will walk a lot during the tour when you’re not sitting down to eat.

Do you tip your food tour guide?

Always tip your food tour guide, especially if they’ve done a fantastic job.

Top food holidays for gourmands who love to travel

These foodie holidays will satisfy your appetite and your taste for adventure

food holidays

Anyone who enjoys cooking will love a foodie holiday where you can learn about the local produce, flavour combinations and spices that make a region's food distinctive. A gourmet getaway that includes cooking lessons or demos, like our culinary cruise of Bordeaux , is a great way to learn new skills and bring a taste of your holiday home with you.

There's always time to discover other aspects of a location on a food holiday, too. You can enjoy long walks along dramatic coastlines, an urban adventure exploring a city's culture, or a boat trip to explore hidden towns and villages. And the best part is you can recoup your energy by relaxing and refuelling with delicious local dishes.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourite foodie trips so that you can start planning your next foodie holiday now. Wherever you choose to go, you can be sure you won't go hungry...

Sail the enchanting Venice Lagoon with James Martin

foodie holidays

Italy ’s Veneto region has colourful, picturesque islands, ornate architecture, magnificent displays of art and a deeply rooted culinary history. Unlike much of Italy, pasta isn’t central to Venetian cuisine, which relies more on rice and polenta, often accompanied by fish caught off the region’s Adriatic coast.

Modern Veneto has seven provinces, each with its own distinctive culture, character and cuisine. Some staples which are found throughout the region, like risotto, are commonly served as a primo or first course.

How to visit: With canals and waterways separating the region's highlights, a cruise is a wonderful way to explore Venice and beyond. Join us on a floating exploration of the region, and you’ll sail through the Venetian lagoon to visit Torcello, Mazzorbo, Burano, Murano, and Venice.

TV's James Martin will join you on this special cruise, hosting a private talk and Q&A session about his life and career, and a cooking demonstration on your luxury ship, the S.S. Venezia.

Experience Bordeaux on a luxury river cruise with Raymond Blanc

foodie holidays

Bordeaux and its surrounding countryside are among the loveliest French regions for any lover of good food and fine wine to explore. Shellfish is popular, given the Atlantic coastline, but Bordeaux is mostly famous for its meat and wine. Its most celebrated dish is entrecôte marchand de vin , also known as entrecôte a la Bordelaise . This is a juicy rib steak cooked with a rich gravy made from wine, butter, herbs, and shallots.

Of course, the vineyards are what attract many people to Bordeaux. The diversity of its wine-growing districts means a variety of different types of wines are produced here, such as reds, dry or sweet whites, light reds, rosés, and sparkling whites.

How to visit: Travel in spring, when the landscapes are blossoming and the weather is beginning to warm up, we also have a seven-night cruise in with Michelin-starred chef Raymond Blanc.

Raymond will give a cooking demonstration, hold a Q&A session, and join you on a trip to the lively farmers' market in Libourne, where you can experience the wonderful sights and scents of the fresh produce sold here.

Taste your way around pretty Puglia

foodie holidays

Italy is loved for the quality of its food and wine, with some of the world’s favourite dishes originating from this Mediterranean haven. It's not just about pizza and pasta either — there's fresh seafood, creamy risotto, and a range of desserts that will woo anyone with a sweet tooth.

Puglia , the region at the heel of Italy’s ‘boot’, stands out even in a country with such a strong culinary heritage for its rich and flavoursome cuisine. Here you’ll find olive farms, historic bakeries, and Masserie — traditional stone farmhouses surrounded by sun-drenched vineyards.

The region has a rich agricultural heritage, producing a lot of the country's durum wheat, and is home to some of Italy’s most famous pastas, with orecchiette , or 'little ears' being the most authentic Puglian pasta of all.

How to visit: Good Housekeeping has an exciting six-day tour that will take you to some of the best spots in Puglia to wine and dine, with trips to famous bakeries, olive groves and Masserie with enchanting vineyards.

You'll enjoy various culinary activities, like dining at excellent local restaurants, taking informative cooking and orecchiette-making classes, and tasting locally produced olive oils. You’re certain to come back feeling inspired by the flavours of Italy.

Journey through Portugal’s picturesque Douro Valley

foodie holidays

Portugal’s exquisite Douro Valley is a picturesque wine-producing region known for its sweeping, sun-kissed hills and rolling vineyards.

Dotting these heavenly hills are centuries-old Quintas , historic Portuguese wine estates, where wine flows and sumptuous local produce is served to hungry guests.

Dishes typical of the Douro Valley region include goat stew, Bacalhau à bras (a dish made with shredded cod and potatoes), and of course, the famous Pasteis de Nata, with their perfectly flaky pastry holding a creamy custard filling.

Many Douro Valley cruises begin and end in Porto, where you can while away the hours wandering winding cobbled streets past blue-tiled houses and cafes where you might stop for a plate of salty sardines with fresh bread and a glass of port.

How to visit: Good Housekeeping's eight-day cruise along the Douro allows you to fully immerse yourself in the valley's wine culture, with stops at various vineyards to sample their vintages. Food and wine tastings are a prominent feature throughout this trip, and you'll return home knowing more about Portugal’s gastronomic heritage.

Take a foodie tour of Bologna and Modena

aerial view of bologna cathedral and towers above of the roofs of old town in medieval city bologna high quality photo

Bologna has a well-deserved reputation as Italy's gastronomic capital - even earning the affectionate nickname La Grassa - or ‘the fat one’. The capital of Emilia-Romagna is the home of spiced mortadella sausage, tortellini and rich ragu with homemade pasta (or, as the British call it, spaghetti bolognese).

While Bologna might take the crown as the culinary capital of Italy, it's not the only city in Emilia-Romagna where you can indulge in fabulously flavoursome produce and carefully crafted dishes. Nearby Modena produces some more of Italy's most beloved traditional foods, including tangy balsamic vinegar.

How to visit: Join Good Housekeeping for a gourmet adventure that includes a mouthwatering foodie tour of Bologna, where you'll have the chance to learn about this beautiful city through its fascinating gastronomic history.

You'll also visit Modena, where you can spend time discovering the city's history and culture, from the grand Duomo to the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums. Of course, there'll be plenty of chances to indulge in the region's delicacies, with a visit to a local Parmesan factory, a balsamic vineyard, and a family-run Parma ham producer. FIND OUT MORE

Follow the prosecco trail in Veneto

historic buildings and ponte degli alpini bridge at dawn, bassano del grappa, vicenza province, veneto, italy

As much as we love pizza and pasta, there's far more on offer when it comes to fine Italian food. Northern Italy's Veneto region has diverse cuisine influenced by its varied landscapes, ranging from the mountains along the Austrian border to the shores of the Adriatic Sea.

Pasta is not the staple here, but rather rice and polenta, which are used to craft favourites like risotto, or as accompaniments to flavoursome meat dishes.

As well as its food, Veneto is also famous for its prosecco, with sparkling wines being produced here from juicy Glera grapes since Roman times.

How to visit: Book a self-driven tour of Veneto's fabulous prosecco region with Good Housekeeping and you'll get to taste these fine sparkling wines as you make your way through breathtaking countryside.

You'll have five wine tastings to look forward to, including at the Andreola-Prosecco Valdobbiadene winery, where you'll sample some of the region's best Prosecco. Between wine tours, you'll have plenty of time to set out and discover some of the region's best traditional eateries and sample the freshest of local ingredients.

Tour baja california’s wine country with chef janos wilder, june 26, 2024.

a man wearing a hat

By Matt Sterner

Tucson City of Gastronomy (TCOG) announced its inaugural culinary tour — a taste exploration of Baja California’s wine country, Valle de Guadalupe, from Sunday, October 20 – Friday, October 25.

It will follow La Ruta del Vino (The Wine Route) between the cities of Tecate and Ensenada, in a scenic valley of olive orchards, vineyards, and ranchlands that is Mexico’s most important wine-growing area.

food tours

Designed for wine and culinary enthusiasts, the tour is focused on award-winning handcrafted wines by boutique producers, and farm-to-table regional cuisine by some of the most renowned chefs in Mexico. Highlights will include intimate wine tastings, farm-to-table culinary experiences, and upscale Pacific Ocean-front hotel accommodations.

Meet the Tour Guides

The guides for this culinary and cultural adventure will include desert ecologist and ethnobotanist Jesús García , Stephen Bernier with South of the Border Tours, James Beard Award-winning chef Janos Wilder , and food archaeologist Dr. Jonathan Mabry .

García — a native of Magdalena, Sonora — is a Conservation Research Associate at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.

Mabry has also been the director of the Kino Heritage Trees Project for almost 20 years, and vice-chair and collaborator of the nonprofit managing the Mission Garden for more than a decade.

Bernier brings more than 30 years of leading tours in the U.S. Southwest, Mexico, and Canada, specializing in tours for museums, universities, and nonprofits. He is also a volunteer naturalist for Sabino Canyon.

Janos Wilder was Tucson’s first winner of a James Beard Award, the “Oscar of the food world.” He opened his first restaurant in Tucson in 1983 and has been cooking with ingredients indigenous to the Sonoran Desert ever since. While sourcing foods that have been foraged or cultivated here for thousands of years, Wilder cooks with an eye to the future. He creates modern dishes that explore cooking with ancient foods in response to climate change.

food tours

“Food and wine have been at the center of my professional life for over 40 years,” said Wilder. “This tour to wineries and restaurants in the Valle de Guadalupe and its environs provides a unique opportunity to explore this region where Mexico’s best wines are produced.”

His current restaurant is Studio Janos in downtown Tucson, and he’s also the Board President of Tucson City of Gastronomy and the former Board Chair of Native Seeds/SEARCH.

What to Expect

Among the first tour stops will be the Museu de la Vid y el Vino, telling the story of how the valley became a center of fine winemaking that is now 80% of Mexico’s total wine production. Immersive cultural experiences will include visits to an Indigenous community of the Kumiai people and an enclave of Russian families that homesteaded the valley in 1905.

food tours

Food highlights will include a wine-paired farm-to-table meal overlooking a vineyard at Finca Altozano by chef Javier Plascencia, tastings at the Russian restaurant Familia Samarin, and a contemporary tasting menu influenced by classic Oaxacan dishes by acclaimed chef Gerardo Alvarado at his restaurant Pardella Humo y Brasos in the heart of an organic olive orchard.

Wine tastings guided by certified sommeliers at the Bodegas Magoni and El Cielo wineries will showcase some of the region’s best wines, and locally crafted beers will be sampled at the Bellinghausen Beer Garden.

“We hope this is just the first of many culinary and food culture tours led by TCOG,” said Mabry. “The tour group size will be less than two dozen to enhance the experience, so register soon to ensure your participation.”

Taylor Swift Donation Helps U.K. Food Banks Serve 10,000+ Meals: ‘The Most Incredible Gift’

The pop star is reportedly donating to food banks along her U.K. Eras Tour stops

Taylor Swift understands the gift of giving.

The 34-year-old pop star has reportedly been donating at various U.K. Eras Tour stops for weeks.

Rachel Biggs, the CEO of Cardiff Foodbank , told The Guardian in an interview published on Tuesday, June 25 that Swift was behind the largest donation from an individual the organization has ever seen. Cardiff, the capital of Wales, was the only city with just one Eras Tour concert during Swift's 152-date European leg, the BBC notes.

Jo Hale/Redferns

Though Biggs did not specify the amount of money given, she said it was a huge help.

“The breathing space Taylor’s donation has given us will enable us to lift our heads and shift our focus from the food bank to the creation of a sustainable operation supporting people who currently need our help with support to address the root cause of poverty and financial support to set them on the path to not needing our aid any more,” Biggs told The Guardian .

According to Biggs, the Grammy winner’s contribution helps to feed “1,200 people three meals a day, for three days – or 10,800 meals.”

Cardiff Foodbank also thanked Swift on Instagram with a photo of the singer's signature friendship bracelets that read, "Thank you Taylor Love, Cardiff Food Bank." In the caption, the charity said the donation was "beyond our Wildest Dreams," a nod to a song on Swift's 1989 album.

The Guardian also spoke with Rich Jones, the CEO of Liverpool's St. Andrew’s Community Network , which oversees 11 food banks. Jones called Swift’s contribution “the most incredible gift.”

Kevin Mazur/Getty

“Because of rising prices, rising need and falling donations, we’ve been having to subsidize our food ourselves for a long while,” Jones said. “But it’s fair to say that Taylor Swift has essentially paid our food bill for 12 months – and that gives us the breathing space to focus on fundraising efforts going forward.”

On June 11, the Daily Mail reported that the “Shake It Off” hitmaker donated to local food banks in Edinburgh during her time in Scotland's capital city.

"Thank you so much Taylor – you have changed Edinburgh for good," the Edinburgh Food Project shared on Instagram .

Swift's charitable donations aren't the only thing grabbing attention during her tour. Travis Kelce recently joined Swift in London — in a twist that no one could have seen coming.

On Sunday, June 23, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end performed onstage with the “Love Story” singer at London’s Wembley Stadium.

The couple, who have been publicly dating since October 2023 , coordinated in tuxedo and top hat looks for the show.

While speaking with Barstool Sports' Bussin' With The Boys podcast on Tuesday, the Super Bowl winner gushed over how “proud” he was of Swift.

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

“You want to keep things private, but at the same time I’m not here to hide anything,” Kelce said of their romance. “That’s my girl. You know what I mean? That’s my lady. So it’s like, I’m proud of that .”

“You just don’t want to let everybody into your personal life and be able to comment on it knowing that everything she does is getting a headline.”

I Went On A "The Bear" Food Tour In Chicago And I Was Completely Shocked At How Delicious Everything Was

I love a good challenge, but my stomach was truly not ready for this.

Kyle Richmond

BuzzFeed Staff

If you've ever seen an episode of The Bear , you probably know it's full of screaming, swearing, delicious food, and Jeremy Allen White .

The show is based in chicago and shows the inner workings of the restaurant industry for people who eat, sleep, and breathe food. jeremy allen white stars as carmy who takes over his brother's italian beef shop after his death and ultimately turns it into a fine dining establishment..

Jeremy Allen White, wearing a chef's uniform, stands in a professional kitchen, focused on work with colleagues nearby

I was a little late to the party but binged the season in record time. As someone who contemplated being a chef for 30 seconds when I was a kid, I found it extremely stressful and pretty accurate. Shoutout to the chef I worked with in high school who forced me to peel garlic for 8 hours.

Recently, I was invited to Chicago to take a Bear- inspired food tour. Since I've never been to Chi-town before, I was excited for the opportunity to not only E-A-T but also take in the sights and sounds of Chicago.

Person sitting on glass floor high above city landscape

Here I am at the top of Chicago on the Skydeck . This isn't AI folks – it's 103 floors above Chicago and the only thing that separated me from my untimely death was 1.5" of glass.

* BuzzFeed was provided this trip free of charge; however, we were under no obligation to give a positive review.

First things first, we met up with Chicago Food Tours who organizes " Yes, Chef! Chicago: A Bear -Inspired Food Tour ." The tour highlights some of the restaurants featured in the show and of course includes some delicious eats as part of it. The tour is $129 and lasts about 3.5 hours. You're bussed around the city in a luxurious party bus and guided by a Chicago expert. Our host was Casey and not only does he love Chicago – but he's also an actor who has even auditioned for the show.

People walking out of a building toward a shuttle bus waiting outside. Text overlay reads "our chariot awaits" with an arrow pointing to the bus

I'm including the prices below, but if you're taking the actual tour just know that it's all included in the price of the ticket.

The first stop on our tour had to of course be Mr. Beef – arguably the main character in The Bear . Located in the River North neighbourhood of the city (666 N Orleans St), it looks exactly the same IRL as it does on the show. They haven't let success go to their head either — the only real mention of the show is a newspaper clipping found in the main seating area.

Sign reading "The Original Beef of Chicagoland" hangs outside a building on a street with other signs and greenery

Our guide told us the pilot was shot at Mr. Beef while in subsequent episodes they opted for a soundstage that included an exact replica of the shop.

Enough talking — let's eat! We started with the classic Italian Beef Sandwich ($9.50) that's absolutely smothered in aus jus and served on French bread. I am an absolute sucker for beef sandwiches and I was not expecting it to be so... (pardon my French) moist . They say it's covered in aus jus, but it definitely had a greasy feeling to it as well. That being said, the sandwich was delicious. It's exactly what you expect from a greasy spoon establishment – it was nothing fancy, frilly or out of the ordinary but a good, solid, classic sandwich.

We hopped on the bus and headed over to our second location: Urban Belly at Time Out Market Chicago (916 W Fulton Market). Now this one was a bit of a fake-out because in Season 2, Episode 3 of The Bear, Sydney actually visits Lao Peng You for dumplings. There were about 30 of us on this tour and because Lao Peng You is on the small side, some sacrifices had to be made. A little disappointed, but still hungry — we grabbed our chopsticks and dug into these Caramelized Chicken Dumplings ($12).

These little pockets were filled with chicken and a very sweet and tangy sauce made from lemongrass and soy that was a bit overwhelming at times. Overall, it was good, but maybe ask for half the sauce if you visit. Or just visit the real deal at Lao Peng You.

Next on the docket was Pizza Lobo (3000 W Fullerton Ave). You might remember this location from Season 2, Episode 3 as well, where Sydney grabs a slice from the take-out window. The difference is we were able to sit down on the patio and enjoy our pizza with a ice cold glass of beer. Sorry Syd! And shocker — it's not Chicago-style!

Sydney eating a slice of pizza on a street under an elevated subway train on The Bear

Yes Chicago is known for Chicago-style, but like every big city, they've got an amalgamation of different pizza styles to cater to any palette.

Pizza Lobo's New York style by the slice ($5) is truly my favourite style of pizza. Thinner crust, not too saucy, not too cheesy, and tiny pepperoni that curls when cooking and filled with delicious oil. I hope you put "loves curled pepperoni" on my tombstone.

Two people exchange a slice of pepperoni pizza on a white paper plate

The downside is that this location is a little bit of a hike if you're staying in more touristy areas of the city. From the Bean, its about a 30 minute drive. But worth it if you're on a food tour and someone else is driving.

Sign for a restaurant featuring cocktails, pizza, beer, and patio seating with a drawing of a wolf's head

Next up on the food tour was a stop at Roeser's Bakery (3216 W North Ave) which was featured in Season 1, Episode 4 of The Bear . At the beginning of this episode, Marcus watches from outside as delicious donuts are being made — eventually using them as as inspiration for his donuts back at the restaurant.

A person in a coat stands in front of Roeser's Bakery, which has a neon sign reading "Fresh Donuts" and "Home Made Ice Cream." A blue car passes in the foreground

Roeser's has been in business since 1911 so you know you're getting a quality product when you visit. This location was teeny-tiny, so we got our donuts to go. Let me tell you, this was a messy endeavor. I decided to split mine as I was already getting full, and we still had a another sweet stop on the food tour left. Our donut looked exactly like the one Marcus eyes on The Bear . She was hefty with a sugary glaze and sweet strawberries on top. On a normal day I would devour this whole thing, but I'm glad I showed a bit of restraint. Delicious!

A close-up of a tray of assorted donuts, including donuts with blue icing and sprinkles, donuts with strawberries on top, and chocolate-coated donuts

The final stop on this officially unofficial food tour was a visit to Margie's Candies (1960 N Western Ave) for a sundae! In Season 2, Episode 3, Sydney visits Margies as the last stop of her very own food tour, so it was only fitting that it was the same for us! Margie's was built in 1921 and it felt like stepping back in time.

Our Hot Fudge Sundae ($8.95) came in the iconic wavy dish, the same one from the episode. It came complete with whip cream, chocolate fudge, a wafer cookie, and of course a cherry on top. When you think of sundaes, this is what you expect. The chocolate and whipped cream is what really elevated this treat for me — the chocolate was creamy and not overly sweet, while the whipped cream really made the whole dish feel a little bit lighter. I loved it.

While that was the end of the scheduled food tour with Chicago Food Tours, there was way more to see and eat. So the next day, we ventured out to try some more restaurants and dishes... all in the name of science.

Just to be clear — everything from here on out is not included in the "Yes, Chef! Chicago: A Bear -Inspired Food Tour."

First things first, brunch. In Season 2, Episode 3, Sydney visits Kasama (1001 N Winchester Ave) and enjoys some delicious Filipino dishes for breakfast — this is actually where she gets the text that Carmy won't be joining her. One thing we didn't see in the episode? Sydney lining up to get in. We had been tipped off to arrive at least 30 minutes before opening to secure a seat – and I'm glad we did. We were about 20th or so in line and still had to wait about another 15-20 minutes once the restaurant opened to get in.

Square sign with geometric design above the word "kasama" mounted on a brick wall

And I'm not exaggerating when I say this has to be some of the best breakfast food I've ever had. Not only has Kasama won a James Beard Award, but they also have a Michelin Star which I'm finding out in this very moment. Their bakery case is STOCKED with some incredible pastries like almond croissants, cardamom buns and even a salmon danish.

A bakery display case featuring various pastries, including cookies, cakes, and donuts, with labels indicating their names and prices

We started with the Breakfast Sandwich ($11) which included longganisa (a Filipino sweet sausage), egg, cheese, and the side hash brown ($3) added to the sandwich just like Syd eats it. This sandwich? 10/10. No, 20/10. It was so good. Everything worked together in perfect harmony. Nothing was overpowering, just very cohesive. And then with the addition of the golden, crispy hash brown in the middle? Truly nothing better. Might be the best thing I ate all weekend.

A person with braided hair is happily eating a sandwich, located in an indoor setting

Next up was the Chicken Adobo ($17) made with chicken thigh, coconut, palapa and garlic rice. On the show Syd eats the mushroom adobo which I'm sure is delicious, but I'm sadly not a mushroom guy. But the adobo I ordered was right up my alley. The chicken was slightly crispy and charred, the garlic rice had just the right amount of garlic, and all of it together was a nice tasty dish. I basically eat chicken and rice on a daily basis, so I knew I was gonna love this.

A bowl of rice with a sunny-side-up egg, veggies, and sautéed meat on a table next to a cup and an open book titled "Leading with the Heart" by Mike Krzyzewski

Then I devoured the Mango Tart ($13) because I'm a sucker for mango. This tasty little number has an oat frangipane base, coconut pastry cream, and of course beautifully sliced and placed mango topped with zingy lime zest. Now I know I already said the breakfast sandwich was my top pick, but maybe I need to change things? Writing this is making me wanna plan a trip back to Chicago ASAP. It was just so light, bright and tasty. I loved it.

Finally — you can't come to Chicago without checking out a more fine-dining establishment – and boy did I have a doozy of a location to check out. The next and last step on our Bear food tour had to be Ever (1340 W. Fulton St.) Ever is a two-Michelin starred restaurant by Chef Curtis Duffy. It was featured in Season 2, Episode 7 of The Bear called "Forks". In this episode, Richie staged at Ever and eventually found his love for fine dining. You might remember when he began his shifts by just polishing forks. I'm happy to report I didn't have to polish any forks.

A waiter serves a plate of appetizers to a group of elegantly dressed people seated at a table with drinks in a formal setting

Just so you know I was paying attention to the server, not just scrolling through my phone. I was taking video of the pour, just like all good foodfluencers do.

Now I'm not going to go through every single dish that I had on the menu, because it was a lot and the dishes are constantly changing. The menu consisted of 10 dishes from their tasting menu and it was $325. $325!!!!! Now I'm trying to play it cool here, because I'm a cool, hip food writer, but that's a lot of dinero.

Luckily the fine folks at Ever and Choose Chicago covered my bill for me. Thank you. Love ya.

I'm not usually a fine dining connoisseur, but there were some standout dishes on this menu. First up was the Scallop with coconut, squash and nasturtiums. Apparently nasturtium is a peppery flower which I really enjoyed. I also loved the stuffed agnolotti pasta, and not to sound super basic and unrefined, but the bread and butter was incredible.

A gourmet dish of seared scallops garnished with crispy vegetable spirals, a green sauce, and fresh herbs, plated artfully on a white dish

The dessert course was also incredible. There was a rice pudding with different flavoured jells on top, a jasmine tea orb that had a brownie inside, and of course, a big delicious donut with flavoured dips to go alongside it.

A round gourmet dish features various colorful jelly-like substances arranged on a translucent, lacy surface. A wine glass is seen in the background

Ever was an experience, to say the least. They even took us back to the kitchen to see how it all goes down. I didn't see Richie polishing any forks, however I saw a kitchen that was run with military precision all while remaining eeeerily quiet. If you ever seen a restaurant kitchen, or even walked by one, you'll know they are a hotbed for noise (Exhibit A: any kitchen scene on The Bear ), but in Ever there was just complete silence.

Chefs prepare and plate gourmet dishes in a professional kitchen, focusing on precision and presentation. Multiple plates with intricate designs are seen

They apparently hacked some of the kitchen appliances so that they don't produce any noise, which is incredible, really. Shout out to Chef Curtis Duffy and the team for the incredible service. Also shout out to Matthew McConaughey , whose narrated audio book plays in the washroom.

And while these aren't Bear- specific restaurants, I also had great meals at Indienne (217 W Huron St.) which is a Michelin-star Indian restaurant, and Lou Malnati's (multiple locations) where I had to have a classic Chicago deep-dish. I also visited Avec for another delicious brunch; however, this wasn't the location featured on the show.

A dish of Dahi Bhalla, served in a gray bowl, garnished with vibrant toppings, at the restaurant Indienne

And that completes my world record of eating in Chicago (someone at Guinness gimme a call). If you're ever in Chi-town please give any of these establishments a try! Even if you don't end up on the "Yes Chef!" food tour you can still visit each of these places and live like Carmy, Syd or Richie any day of the week.

And if you didn't know already, the bear season 3 premieres june 27 on fx and disney+ in canada. and follow buzzfeed canada on instagram and tiktok for even more food content, share this article.

food tours

If you're into food tours, this one is great. Our tour guide was informative and fun. The food we tasted was yummy. Half a croissant, taco, 1/4 grilled cheese sandwich to name a few. The walk wasn't too long, but on the sunny side of the street to get a view of some landmarks- so wear a hat if you're sensitive to sunlight. Also, bring your own water. Overall, a great tour.

Had a great day on this tour. This is a great way to learn some history about Downtown and enjoy some good food. I liked that it was just tastes of food and not too heavy. We were happy to have brought a few water bottles with us. Looking forward to doing more tours in other areas of the city.

Great blend of samplings, history and exercise in DTLA. Steve was knowledgeable and a great host for the group. We have toured with other groups and the blend of Sidewalk Food Tours is tops.

Super fun day walking around LA’s historic district!!! Learn a lot about the area and wonderful places to eat. Definitely, well return and eat at the places we visited. My favorite was the Almond Croissant and Grill Cheese! Still thinking about the yummy flavor and crunchy texture.

Great way to spend some time with family and friends. Knowledgeable guide who talks about LA history, architecture, and food. And you get a little bit of exercise between nibbles.

This Food Tour of Los Angeles was delicious, informative and fun. I went on the tour in December with my girlfriend and we had an amazing time. I have lived in LA for 31 years and still learned more La History. Loved the tour and the food. Our tour guide, Hillary, kept it fun and at a good pace.

Experience North End's hidden gems with debut of New Bedford food tour. Here's what to expect.

food tours

NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Food Tours is thrilled to announce the launch of their new North End Food Tour in New Bedford. The tour will take visitors to some of the best-hidden gems in the North End of the city, showcasing the diverse and delicious cuisine.

"I have to say that I am just so very excited about this new tour," said co-owner Pamela Shwartz.

"When we first came up with the idea of the food tours, everyone we talked to, including locals, would mention the North End and all of its amazing hidden gems," she said.

More: 12 major New Bedford area events & festivals to attend: Here's the when and where for 2024

Shwartz said she has always known that the North End has some of the best food in the city, but people were more interested in exploring the downtown scene first.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Working with TDI to connect with North End restaurants

"We weren't sure how to start a food tour there. The main reason being the language barrier, which can be intimidating for many people," she said.

To overcome this hurdle, Shwartz said she worked with Rosa Mendes, the TDI fellow for Mass Development.

According to Shwartz, the TDI (Transformative Development Initiative) program is working towards revitalizing the city's North End as a cultural and food hub. Mendes has been instrumental in helping them plan the tour and communicate with the restaurant owners in the North End.

"She believes it aligns perfectly with the TDI program's mission of promoting the North End as a food hub. So, we're really excited to be a part of this amazing campaign and showcase the diverse food options in the North End," Shwartz added.

What to expect on the North End food tour

Starting June 22, the North End Food Tour will feature a variety of cuisines, including Mexican, Guatemalan, Honduran, Portuguese and Cape Verdean.

"We will be starting at La Raza, a Mexican restaurant, and then heading to Casa Lempira, a Honduran restaurant, where visitors will get to try out an assortment of fresh juices, including cashew juice," said Shwartz.

Next, the food tour will make its way on foot to Europa Cafe, which serves authentic Portuguese food. Then, it will visit Morna Lounge and Grill, a Cape Verdean restaurant, before heading back to the Central American hotspot, Restaurante y Tortilleria Guatemalteco, for some fresh tortillas.

More: Drummer Joaquin Santos to honor Juneteenth all month long. Here's his plan.

Aside from the delicious food, the tour will also include stops at key landmarks, including the beautiful church in the North End. They will also showcase the changes taking place in the North End, such as the renovations at the Capitol Theater, which is run by the Community Development Corporation.

"And finally, we will end on a sweet note at La Fruta Loca, where visitors can indulge in their delicious mangonada, a popular Mexican dessert," she added.

Hoping to introduce people to the love in the North End

Shwartz said she wants visitors to leave the tour with a newfound appreciation for the North End and its vibrant, diverse community.

"The North End has always been a welcoming place for immigrants, and this tour truly reflects the cultural melting pot that it is," she said.

"We want people to come with an open mind and an empty stomach, and leave with a full heart and a satisfied palate."

Frequently Asked Questions

Will local chicagoans enjoy your tours.

Absolutely! More than half of our guests are local to the Chicagoland area, and they always say the same thing: “I learned so much about Chicago’s history and restaurant scene that I didn’t know!” Locals who come on our tours will find their new favorite date night spot, and can impress their visiting friends with all their Chicago “insider” knowledge.

I hate feeling like a tourist. Will the guide have a bullhorn and an umbrella?

Yeah, we hate that, too. And, no, no umbrellas or bullhorns. Our guides feel more like part of the group. They’re friendly without being annoying, and they don’t just recite a script. We hire people who love this city, and we train them extensively to make their job look effortless. No cringey tourist stuff, we promise.

This seems like a lot to spend on sample bites. How much do we get to eat?

No need to make reservations for after the tour. You’ll enjoy the equivalent of a full meal or more on our food tours.

What happens if it rains or snows?

Rain or shine, you gotta eat! Unless the weather looks like it’ll threaten the safety of our guests or guides, the tours will run in most conditions. If it’s too wet or cold, we’ll just spend more time indoors at our restaurant partners. And we’ve got some snazzy ponchos for you just in case.

Can you accommodate my dietary restriction?

If you let us know when you book your tour, we CAN provide vegetarian-friendly tasting, but we CANNOT offer alternatives or substitutions for any other allergies (including lactose intolerant) or dietary restrictions (including vegan and gluten free). Vegetarian-friendly options must be requested in advance during the ticket purchase process.

Taylor Swift Donated Enough Money to Allow U.K. Food Banks to Buy Over 10,000 Meals During ‘Eras Tour’

Taylor Swift in Cardiff.

Taylor Swift is giving back on her Eras Tour .

The pop superstar is being praised for her “incredible” donations to food banks in the U.K. cities that hosted her Eras Tour this month.

The Guardian reports that Swift, 34, made the largest individual donation ever to Cardiff Foodbank in Cardiff, Wales, where the “Fortnight” singer performed on June 18.

“This will provide the weight equivalent to feeding 1,200 people three meals a day, for three days – or 10,800 meals. This will be 2.5 weeks of what we typically distribute,” said the charity’s chief executive, Rachel Biggs .

“The breathing space Taylor’s donation has given us will enable us to lift our heads and shift our focus from the food bank to the creation of a sustainable operation supporting people who currently need our help with support to address the root cause of poverty and financial support to set them on the path to not needing our aid anymore,” added Biggs.

Meanwhile, in Liverpool, where Swift performed three shows from June 13 to June 15, the chief executive of St Andrew’s Community Network called her donation the “most incredible gift.”

“Because of rising prices, rising need and falling donations, we’ve been having to subsidize our food ourselves for a long while,” said Rich Jones , the charity’s exec.

“But it’s fair to say that Taylor Swift has essentially paid our food bill for 12 months – and that gives us the breathing space to focus on fundraising efforts going forward,” Jones added. “To really look at how we can achieve our ambition of ending the need for food banks in the first place through financial advice, income maximization work, welfare benefits and work.”

What Surprise Songs Did Taylor Swift Perform at Eras Tour in London

Related: Which Surprise Songs Did Taylor Swift Perform at London ‘Eras Tour’ Shows?

As well as Cardiff and Liverpool, the Eras Tour has also taken over Edinburgh, Scotland, and London, where Swift performed three sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium last weekend. She’ll return to Wembley for a further five nights in August.

During her Sunday, June 23, concert, the singer brought out her boyfriend , Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce , onstage to join her for the song “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” Kelce, 34, joined her dancers for a routine in which he pretended to apply makeup to Swift and carried her around the stage.

Swift’s London shows brought out a who’s who of notable stars including Prince William , Tom Cruise , Jon Bon Jovi , Paul McCartney and Kelce’s brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Kylie Kelce .
