Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour moved back inside on Friday night (June 9), playing the first of two concerts at Detroit’s Ford Field, which has been hosting Swift in the Motor City since 2011.

A crowd of nearly 59,300 — including a significant number of travelers to the show — gave Swift a thunderous welcome that left her wide-eyed and grinning by the end of the second song “Cruel Summer.”

“You’re making me feel phenomenal right now,” the pop superstar told the Swifties, a cross-generational, mostly female throng (though a few “Proud Swiftie Dad” T-shirts were spotted in the crowd). “I’m already starting to feel, like, powerful, you know what I mean?”

Playing under a roof, of course, meant Swift and company didn’t have to deal with weather issues like they did in Nashville, although it was a pleasant late spring day in Detroit. It also limited the chance she’d swallow any flying insects , like she did in Chicago. The domed setting did, however, provide different circumstances for the Taylor-gaters outside, who could not hear the music like they could at the open-air venues. That kept the numbers down but there was still a concentration of fans on the east side of the stadium, opposite of the stage, who were able to peer through the windows and were filming the production on their cell phones.

The covering also added another dimension to Swift’s opulent light show, particularly during “Don’t Blame Me,” when the rows of floodlights that shot towards the sky made shapes on the roof. It also reflected the pyrotechnic moments in a different way, lighting up the venue even more intensely than others.

Twelve weeks in, Swift’s Eras Tour is looking and feeling dialed-in — a 44-song, three-hour and 20-minute treat for Swifties who haven’t seen her on stage in five years. That made for a smooth night for all concerned on Friday, with some moments that still stood out from the evening.

Motor City Surprise Songs

Swift, per usual, explained to the Detroit crowd her idea of playing surprise solo songs each night — and not repeating them throughout the tour. A challenging task, she noted, but was clearly proud that she’s been able to keep it up so far. On June 9, she welcomed two more new arrivals to the Eras Tour roster, starting with “Haunted” from 2010’s Speak Now , played on acoustic guitar and preceded with a plug for Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) , arriving on July 7. She followed on piano with “I Almost Do” from Red , its first time in the set since 2013.

Memory Lane

Before performing “Lover” during the show’s opening segment, Swift reminded fans that the first time she sang in Ford Field was during the fall of 2006, as a 16-year-old singing the national anthem before a Detroit Lions game in conjunction with the release of her self-titled debut album. “It was, like, the biggest place I’ve ever seen in my life,” Swift recalled, “and now we’re back with the Eras Tour.” It was actually her fifth appearance at the stadium, having played there on the 2018 Reputation Stadium Tour, the 1989 World Tour in 2015, The Red Tour in 2013 and the Speak Now World Tour in 2011.

VIP Flavors

A number of Detroit Lions were in the crowd on June 9, or planning to come to Swift’s second show on Saturday, including head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff. But the most visible celebrity in attendance on night one was Public Enemy ’s Flavor Flav , who was also seen at the Detroit Grand Prix the previous weekend. Flav was conspicuous in one of the main floor VIP boxes, pressing the flesh with fans who spotted him throughout the evening.

Cold Comfort

As she introduced Evermore ’s “Champagne Problems” while seated at a “moss-covered piano,” Swift apologetically made “a very annoying request that somebody maybe bring me a tissue.” She explained that “I’m kind of at the end of a cold. I’m just getting to a point where it’s gonna get messy for me on the piano.” A stagehand brought one up in short order, and Swift ducked down in order to blow her nose. “OK,” she said, “that may not be the last time that happens tonight. Just a warning.” It didn’t affect her performance of the song, however, which earned one of the night’s longest and loudest ovations.

It’s Janet… Miss Jackson

Astute Swifties noted that Janet Jackson ’s “All For You” was added to pre-show mix piped over the PA, ushering in the usual — Lesley Gore ’s “You Don’t Own Me” just before the lights went down and Swift hit the stage.

Loving the Love

Before rendering the nearly 10-minute “All Too Well” from Red (Taylor’s Version) , Swift spoke to the crowd about her mission to re-record her first six albums — and her appreciation for the Swifties’ support for the project.

“Ever since I was a teenager it’s just been really important for me to on my own music one day,” she explained. The Taylor’s Versions , she added, “is sort of the definition of a passion project, right? A passion project is something an artist wants to do for personal reasons, and they would it regardless of whether it was a big, massive failure or it went well … and because it was so personal to me I didn’t go in with any demands or expectations that you guys had to like my versions more or you had to support my versions more, right? But the coolest thing happened; I put out my very first re-record, which was Fearless , my version. You guys, like, rolled up your sleeves and dove in head first and you were like, ‘Nope, these are the versions we support. We want you to own your work.’ Honestly, I’m gonna be thanking you for that for the rest of my life because it just, it was so generous of you to care about the same thing that I care about.”

Time Out for Cuteness

At the end of “22” during the Red section, Swift took a moment with a young girl at the far end of the stage. Swift gave the smiling Swiftie a wink and the hat off her head before she skipped away to charge into “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

Girl In Distress

While Swift didn’t experience any obvious technical issues like she did the previous weekend in Chicago, when her microphone malfunctioned during the third show there, it was opening act Girl In Red ’s turn for a snafu. Like Swift, the Norwegian rocker (aka Marie Ringheim) pounded on the mic with her palm, then told the crowd, “I’m not sure if you saw the TikTok where Taylor lost her vocal mic. That’s exactly what I was going for.” After a quick mic hand-off she was able to finish the rest of her 35-minute set without incident.

Taylor Swift in Detroit: Everything to know before you go to the shows

DETROIT (FOX 2) - One of the biggest pop stars of all time is in Detroit at Ford Field for a two-day extravaganza in Downtown that is going to bring thousands of people into the city.

Taylor has been breaking records and exciting fans with her Eras Tour, an epic celebration of her career and new music releases since the pandemic and this weekend, she arrives in Detroit.

Taylor's tour broke Ticketmaster's website , leading to a massive lawsuit . Now tickets are available in the secondary market for a massive markup.

If you're one of the lucky 65,000+ plus with tickets to either night, you're going to want to make sure you are prepared for this massive weekend.

The highly-anticipated tour kicked off on March 17 in Phoenix, Arizona with Swift performing 44 songs from 10 albums for over three hours and 15 minutes.

Nearly two months into the 52-show Eras Tour, the 12-time Grammy-winner has received rave reviews for the concert despite the length of the shows.

What day is Taylor Swift in Detroit?

Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour will be in Detroit on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10.

Doors at Ford Field open at 4:30 p.m. on both nights with openers going on at 6:30 including Girl in Red, Owenn, and Gracie Abrams.

After the openers, Taylor will hit the stage for what's expected to be a 3 hour show each night.

Lawsuit filed by Taylor Swift fans taking on Ticketmaster monopoly

A Metro Detroit woman is one of the many fans of Taylor Swift joining in on a legal case against Ticketmaster.

Can you still buy tickets to Taylor Swift in Detroit?

Ford Field has listed both shows as complete sell-outs. But that doesn't mean you can't find some tickets somewhere - just know you're going to pay…a LOT for them.

Tickets START at $1,500 per seat on StubHub. That's for one seat. PLUS fees, in the top row of Ford Field.

Of course, you can find a better view for only $18,000.

So, in short, if you want to buy a ticket, prepare to take out a loan. Tickets may go down slightly on Friday and Saturday as the ticket-holders get antsy about selling their seats.

Where to park at Ford Field for Taylor Swift's concert?

We're not going to sugarcoat it. Parking is not going to be fun.

Both nights that Taylor's on the stage, the Detroit Tigers are in town next door at Comerica Park. That means upwards of 100,000 people could be downtown and there are far from that many spots available.

Parking at Ford Field would cost you $50 if you can get in. Otherwise, you can reserve a spot now at Ford Field's official reservation system ParkWhiz . But be ready to pay there too. A parking spot there is going to cost you up to $200 – JUST to park your car.

So it may be best to take a rideshare or park farther away and take the Q-Line

What music will Taylor Swift perform at The Eras tour?

Taylor will play 44 songs over her hours-long show broken down into ten acts.

The albums include

  • Red (Taylor's version)

What can you bring in to the Taylor Swift concert?

If you want to bring a bag, bring a small clear one. Small clutches are also allowed.

Don't bring a large bag, light-up clothing, noisemakers, professional camera equipment, GoPros, or any other weapons.

This is just a small glimpse of the full list, which is very long. You can see the entire list here.

What to know about Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Detroit

Make the friendship bracelets (as long as you wear them into the stadium).

Taylor Swift stands in front of a mosaic of past pictures of herself, color-coded to represent previous album releases

Poster for 'The Eras Tour,' via @taylorswift13 on Twitter.

It’s me, hi. I’m WDET’s resident Swiftie, it’s me.

Pop superstar Taylor Swift is returning to Ford Field this weekend on her highly anticipated Eras Tour , with performances on Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10. Downtown Detroit will be packed with several other high-profile events, including Motor City Pride and two Tigers games against the Arizona Diamondbacks, so you’ll want to plan ahead before heading out.

But don’t worry, you’re not on your own, kid. Here’s what you need to know about Taylor Swift weekend in Detroit.

When is the show?

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with the opening acts starting at 6:30 p.m. each night. Taylor is scheduled to hit the stage at 8 p.m. and perform until about 11 p.m. for a staggering 3-hour show.

What should I wear?

Two words: Comfortable. Shoes.

Fans have been going all-out with costumes relating to the past 17 years of Swift’s discography for this tour. That means curly hair and cowboy boots, fishnets and snake skin, head-to-toe glitter and everything in between.

But the main thing to keep in mind when prepping your outfit is that this is a long show. From doors open to curtains closed, that makes for a total of 6.5 hours that you could be inside Ford Field, not including the time it takes to leave the stadium — which could be a while too.

You’ll be waiting in lines for:

  • Getting into the stadium.
  • Buying merch.
  • Restroom breaks.
  • Getting out of the stadium.

Plus, if you’re anything like me, you’ll be dancing at your seat for the whole show. That’s a lot of standing and dancing.

As cute as those knee-high 6-inch heels might be, you might want to opt for wearing sneakers this time.

What can I bring?

Ford Field is enforcing the Clear Bag Policy for the Eras Tour. That means that bags larger than a clutch (no more than 4.5” x 6.5”) carried into the stadium must be made of clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and must not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”. For example, a gallon Ziploc bag would be fine, as long as you don’t mind carrying it all night. Additionally, clear bags may not contain stickers, graphics, writing or other decorations on more than one side.

Fans are also prohibited from bringing battery-operated clothing or signs, outside food or beverages (including water) or wrapped gifts. You can, however, bring friendship bracelets to trade with other concert-goers, as long as you wear them on your person when entering the stadium.

For a full list of prohibited items, visit their website .

What is there to eat?

Since it’s such a long show and you can’t bring in outside food or drink, you could either eat ahead of time or buy food at the stadium.

Ford Field has 50 permanent and 75 portable concession stands around the stadium, so that is an option if you don’t mind waiting in line and paying stadium prices. They offer hot dogs, chicken tenders, pizza, french fries, beer, soda and water. There will also be specialty themed cocktails available around the stadium, including Lover’s Lemonade, Midnight Mule and Spritz (Your Version).

Or, you can grab something to eat before the show at places like Tin Roof (which is open until 2 a.m.), Buddy’s (which is open until 11 p.m.) or Detroit Beer Co. (which is open until midnight). There’s also the option of eating at home before you leave or packing a lunch to eat in the parking lot before you go in for a little concert tailgate.

Whatever you choose, just make sure your body is fueled and hydrated before heading in there — you’re gonna need it.

Where should I park?

Ford Field offers pre-paid parking for $50 in their surrounding lots . The Ford Field parking deck and Lot 4 will open at 9 a.m., and fans can reserve their spot ahead of time online . ADA parking is also available in the parking deck on a first come, first served basis.

Keep in mind that downtown Detroit will be packed with people from several other events at the same time on Friday and Saturday night, so whether you go with official Ford Field parking or you choose to search for a better deal elsewhere, I would recommend getting there with plenty of time to spare.

Who’s opening for Taylor?

Swift is bringing nine total opening acts with her on the U.S. tour, and Detroit gets to see three of them.

Friday night, tour dancer-turned pop musician OWENN will open the show at 6:30 p.m., followed by indie pop singer-songwriter girl in red  at 7 p.m.

Saturday night, singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams will take the opening slot, followed by a second performance from girl in red.

Can I still get tickets?

While both nights are technically sold out, secondary resellers like StubHub and SeatGeek do have some available — though they’re expensive. As of this writing, nosebleeds were going for at least $980 before fees, and floor seats are over $2,000. It is possible resellers will drop their prices significantly in the hours leading up to the show as they get desperate, so keep an eye out if you like living on the edge.

If you don’t have tickets and still want merch — or if you just want to beat the lines this weekend — Ford Field is offering early merch sales today outside of Gate B. They’ll be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today (June 8).

What can I expect from the performance?

Swift’s setlist consists of 44 songs, including some from (almost) all of her studio albums (sorry, debut). The setlist stays mostly the same each night, but she has been performing a couple acoustic surprise songs that change each night. Maybe we’ll hear some “Motown beats” in actual Motown!

It really is an incredible show, from the music to the choreography to the visuals. Prepare to be overwhelmed in the best way possible.

And now you’re ready for it. Detroit, Michigan, capture it, remember it.

Things To Do

Entertainment | taylor swift immerses ford field in the many eras of her career.

young woman on stage

“It was, like, the biggest place I’d ever seen in my life,” she said.

And now Swift was back, for the fifth time as a concert headliner, with the biggest show of the year – and maybe anywhere, ever.

Swift’s Eras Tour is a phenomenon that broke the Internet when it went on sale last fall and sparked lawsuits against and congressional investigations into Ticketmaster over its inability to handle the enormous (an understatement) demand. But any controversy and Swiftie fan base angst were set aside on Friday, as the 52,269, including several Detroit Lions and Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav, who was also at last week’s Detroit Grand Prix, got even more than they could have hoped from the 33-year-old pop phenom.

Eras is a show that redefines the idea of a pop concert, if that’s even the right term to use. The immersive and extravagantly staged affair that knits together aspects of Broadway musical, Cirque du Soleil spectacle and three-ring Barnum & Bailey entertainment, and the state of the art in visual technology. It’s an exposition that recaps Swift’s career, divided into 10 parts – nine dedicated to her individual studio albums (save for that debut) and one featuring a pair of “surprise” songs, which on Friday were a solo acoustic guitar rendition of “Haunted” from her 2010 “Speak Now” album, and “I Almost Do” from 2012’s “Red,” with Swift shifting to piano.

Those were the quietest moments during the 44-song, three-hour and 20-minute pageant. During the overwhelming majority of night the Swifties – decked out in homemade outfit, heavy on the glitter and sparkles and arms full of friendship bracelets (even the dads) – sang along, loudly, to every number as Swift, her seven-member band and 14-dancers delivered high-concept production pieces for each. As a demonstration of her creative range it was a genuinely awesome survey, bouncing (non-chronologically) from the pure pop of her “Fearless” and “Red” eras to the sophisticated ambience of her “folklore” and “evermore” albums and the contemporary dance flavor of last year’s “Midnights.”

singer on stage

It was also a testimony to the creative burst Swift had during the pandemic; she told the crowd at one point that music has been “a coping mechanism” for her since she was a youth, and that during the enforced time off she wrote as many songs as she could to exercise her imagination.

That turned into six albums in three years, including her “Taylor’s Version” re-recordings of three others. She thanked fans for supporting the latter, especially, noting that “this is sort of the definition of a passion project…’ I didn’t go in with any demands or expectations that you guys had to like my versions more or you had to support my versions more, right? But the coolest thing happened; I put out my very first re-record (‘Fearless’)…You guys, like, rolled up your sleeves and dove in head-first and you were like, ‘Nope, these are the versions we support’… Honestly, I’m gonna be thanking you for that for the rest of my life.”

And there’s no question that one of the highlights of the night for Swifties was the new, nearly 10-minute version of “All Too Well” that she created for “Red (Taylor’s Version).”

Taylor Made: Swift’s Eras tour plays Ford Field this weekend

The entire night, exhaustive and occasional exhausting, was one highlight after another. Just when you thought you’d seen the best, Swift delivered something else that left it in the memory banks, and you didn’t dare look away for fear of missing something crucial.

Among those that stuck, however, were: a musically strong performance of “The Last Great American Dynasty” with Swift singing while her dancers’ formal cotillion; parts of the “folklore” section that she sang on the roof of the “folklore cabin,” a creation “in my mind” that fueled that album’s song stories; a “Blank Spaces” that featured Swift on a center-stage riser with projections of herself underneath and dancers riding around on neon-wheeled bicycles and wielding neon golf clubs; dancers in lighted, rotating booths for “Look What You Made Me Do;” and a quick costume change amidst umbrella-toting dancers during “Midnight Rain.”

Swift roamed the stage – wide and long, jutting deep along the Ford Field floor – in a variety of outfits, from tight body suits to flowing ball gowns, while a nearly stadium-wide video screen displayed an array of live close-ups and prepared films. The risers in the middle section of the stage changed shapes and forms for the performances, while periodic pyrotechnics became a full fireworks display for the closing “Karma.”

performers on multi-level platform

Amidst all that, however, the longest ovation of the night came for “Champagne Problems,” which Swift sang solo at a “moss-covered” piano during the “evermore” section, after asking for a tissue to blow her nose, telling fans that she “was at the end of a cold."

Earlier, meanwhile, Swift explained that her “goal for the end of the evening is when you hear these songs after this show, you’re gonna be thinking about tonight and the time we all had together.” There were indeed myriad memories created Friday (and most likely on Saturday), and she gave the Swifties – including some Taylor-gaters on the sidewalk on Ford Field’s east side, peering through the windows -- plenty to think about until the next time they see her, which of course, can’t come too soon.

Things To Do

Entertainment | taylor made: swift’s eras tour plays ford field this weekend.

The multi-hyphenate star’s sixth headlining tour, and first in five years, has prompted unprecedented, market-paralyzing demand for tickets and souvenirs. By any measure it’s the hottest show on the road, ever; you have to go back to Michael Jackson and his brothers’ Victory Tour in 1984 for a similar stadium-level phenomenon, but the impact and constancy of social media puts Eras on an entirely different level.

The spectacle comes to Detroit this weekend, with concerts at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 9-10, at Ford Field, featuring Girl in Red opening both nights, Gracie Abrams on Friday and Owenn on Saturday.

Here’s what everybody’s talking about as we buckle in for the Eras ride:

Swift's sixth headlining tour, and first in five years, has prompted unprecedented, market-paralyzing demand for tickets and souvenirs. (Courtesy of Eras Tour)

• Want Tickets?: Don’t abandon hope entirely, but don’t expect miracles, either. Demand was so high when tickets went on sale in November that it broke the Ticketmaster system and put the company in court and in front of the U.S. Congress over the cluster fans experienced. Even during the week of shows secondary sellers are asking, and getting, four-figure prices.

• It’s Long — and Comprehensive: Swift’s shows have been weighing in at around three hours and 15 minutes, give or take, with 44 songs per night. It’s divided into 10 sections, each dedicated to a specific studio album — save for her 2006 debut but including last year’s “Midnights,” which just returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 thanks to a new deluxe edition. Visuals are tailored for each “act,” performed on multiple stages whose design has even been praised by Architectural Digest. Lasers, pyrotechnics, projection mapping, interactive LED bracelets and costume changes are all part of the experience.

• Expect Surprises: Each show’s ninth act features a two-song acoustic set for “surprise songs” from Swift’s catalog that aren’t part of the standard show. She’s also used the occasion to welcome guests such as Marcus Mumford, Maren Morris, Pheobe Bridgers, Ice Spice and studio collaborators Jack Antonoff of Fun. and Aaron Dressner of the National. If you want to speculate; Swift just announced this week that Paramore’s Hayley Williams appears on the upcoming “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” re-release of her 2010 album, and Paramore, which played at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday, June 7, has a night off Friday before a concert in Columbus. Just sayin’…

• Mega Merch: Demand for souvenirs has kept par with the tour’s massive scale — a reported more than $40 per person average. To help alleviate the long (gross understatement) lines, Swift merchandise will go on sale a day early — from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 8 at Ford Field’s Gate B. They’ll also be on sale starting at noon the day of each show.

• Swift-gating: Among the tour’s other phenomena, large numbers of fans without tickets have gathered in public areas outside the venues to listen and share the experience. It may be different in Detroit, however, as Ford Field’s dome will keep the sound of the shows inside the building.

• Come Early: Friday’s show in particular will be held alongside a Detroit Tigers home game next door at Comerica Park and events at other nearby venues. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with music starting at 6:30.

• She Does Give Back: Swift , who makes habit of helping fans in financial distress (Including $13,000 to Shelbie Selewski of Harrison Township last December) or having health problems. For the Eras Tour she’s made donations to local food banks in each city.

Taylor Swift’s Ford Field “Eras” show excites fans and evokes nostalgia

Taylor Swift at her Detroit concert.

It’s no secret that I’m a Swiftie.

I’ve written about Taylor countless times, and I’ll probably continue to do so for the rest of my time with The Michigan Daily (for instance, keep an eye out for my Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) review after the album drops on July 7).

I’ve listened to her songs, written about her music, stayed up late for her new releases, gone to her shows, driven myself crazy trying to figure out her Easter eggs and much, much more.

But I feel like I didn’t really understand what it meant to be a Swiftie until I attended the first Detroit show of her Eras Tour.

Even before the show started, the mood was set. We saw people decked out in elaborate, over-the-top eras-themed outfits the second we walked out of our car and into the parking garage. Throughout our 10-minute walk to Ford Field, we were joined by even more concertgoers, each in more extravagant outfits than the last. Tons of “ Bejeweled ” looks, more cowboy hats and boots than I could count, pink flouncy dresses, a lot of black leather and so much Eras Tour merch.

From the literal second I stepped out of the car until the moment I started driving away post-concert, I felt like part of this massive, sprawling community — a community I sometimes forget the sheer size of. All of these people were here for one purpose: to experience this concert. And sharing the Eras Tour (this once-in-a-lifetime concert) with all these Swifties was a truly unique and special experience.

Before I get to the actual concert (which, by the way, was easily the best concert I’ve ever gone to and probably will ever go to), I want to highlight another really unique aspect of this tour: the friendship bracelets. For those of you who may not know, in her song “You’re On Your Own, Kid,” Taylor has a line about “ mak(ing) the friendship bracelets ,” and as a result, fans attending her shows have been prepping for their concerts by making beaded friendship bracelets to trade with their fellow fans. I was one of those devoted, prepared fans, arriving at Ford Field with an armful of bracelets (only slightly cutting off my circulation). One of the most special, magical moments of the entire night was when I was able to give bracelets to little girls, shining with excitement about their first Taylor show. That really sums up what Taylor does for her fans — she nurtures this aura of togetherness and camaraderie that sees no age, gender, race or other factor. We’re all there; we’re all Swifties. And it’s kind of beautiful.

Now, for what you’ve all been waiting for — the concert itself. Gracie Abrams and girl in red opened the show, doing an amazing job of getting the crowd excited. It’s a daunting task to open for someone as huge as Taylor Swift, but both acts did the job impeccably and with no visible fear. The crowd was ready for Taylor, and a huge part of that was due to the performances that Gracie Abrams and girl in red gave.

So what about Taylor? I know for a fact it’s been discussed already, but it warrants further discussion. This woman sang 44 songs over the span of three hours with minimal breaks, just so her fans could experience the last 17 years of her music. My feet were hurting from standing, dancing and Instagram takeover-ing only one hour in, so I truly don’t know how she did it.

But she did.

Starting with the Lover era, she took to the stage with pastel colors and the line “It’s been a long time coming but / it’s me and you, that’s my whole world,” signifying the role that her fans play in her career and her life. Followed by “Cruel Summer” (and with it, the bridge to end all bridges), she really started out strong.

After a few more Lover songs, we entered the Fearless era. She may have asked us to go back to high school with her as she sang “You Belong With Me,” but I was transported back to elementary school and the feeling of dancing in my bedroom and singing into my hairbrush as I jammed out to this song (Which, by the way, I still do, and you’re lying to yourself if you claim you don’t).

She switched gears with evermore , and while most would highlight “champagne problems” as the best part of that era, I think “marjorie” stole the show. A song written about her maternal grandma, the sheer emotion she felt while singing was palpable. When the audience took out their phones to light up the stadium, she seemed as mesmerized by us as we were by her. And when her grandmother’s voice joined in the song, it felt like that moment was suspended in time for a second, where we all just breathed and took in what we were experiencing, Taylor included.

After a quick outfit change (and a huge shift in aesthetic), we all entered our reputation eras. I attended the reputation stadium tour back in 2018, but this felt even more gripping than that, even though we only heard four songs off the album this time around. From the second we saw the snake on the screen, the audience was on their feet, energy renewed by the anticipation of what was to come.

And then we got another genre shift when Taylor went from her snakeskin getup to her literal princess ball gown, as she sang “Enchanted,” my favorite song ever. I got weepy (and I’m sure others did too) as she called back to her Speak Now album. Screaming “please don’t be in love with someone else / please don’t have somebody waiting on you” in a stadium full of Swifties is incredibly cathartic, and I highly recommend everyone do it at least once in their lives.

Then we came skipping and bounding into the Red era with “22.” She primarily sang singles from the RED era, which felt criminal considering the amount of underrated songs on that album (“Holy Ground”? “State of Grace”? “Message in a Bottle”?), but she made up for it with “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).” It’s funny because the song truly didn’t feel 10 minutes long — when everyone around you is as wholly into the moment as you are, the song speeds by and lasts forever. It’s a paradox, a dichotomy, but when you’re at the Eras Tour, that’s all to be expected.

She followed Red with folklore , decked out in the most beautiful, pixie-like green dress, singing hit after hit. Taylor may not admit if she had a favorite album, but my money’s on folklore , considering that she performed more songs off that album than any other. From the three teenage love triangle songs to a stunning rock-esque version of “illicit affairs” to a haunting rendition of “my tears ricochet,” she put her whole heart and soul into embodying everything folklore is.

And then she shifted gears again. This woman reinvents herself so often — has so many eras — that she can go from folklorian to 1989 pop princess in seconds. And pop princess she was. Reentering the stage to her hit “Style,” the 1989 era was bright colors and catchy ear worms and everything she wanted it to be (and we wanted it to be).

And then, the best part of the night — the best part of every night of the Eras Tour: the surprise songs. Every single show, Taylor performs two surprise songs, typically ones she hasn’t played before on tour, so every crowd gets something special, something that’s their own. And, no offense to any other city, but Detroit Night One won the surprise songs. “Haunted,” a track off her third album, was perfect on the acoustic guitar, with the crowd lit up in purple. Considering that there’s only one Speak Now song permanently on the setlist, getting a surprise song from that era felt like a particularly glorious moment. She followed this with the highly underrated song “I Almost Do” from the Red album. As mentioned earlier, many Red songs on the permanent set lists are singles, so getting to hear a song that usually flies under the radar as our second surprise felt like she was giving us a hidden gem.

After diving away from the surprising songs, we were thrust into Midnights . As her latest album, Midnights got its own moment in the tour, spanning seven songs and tons of iconic moments. With an entrance to the line “meet me at midnight,” Taylor ushered in the final era of the night with a bang. And when she ended the show with “Karma,” it felt like no time at all had passed, even though we’d been at the venue for hours by then. As she said her goodbyes, I was left wondering how that time could have passed as quickly as it had. Forty-four songs, three hours … gone, just like that.

I’ve heard people talking about this post-concert amnesia they’re experiencing, where the sheer joy they felt actually eclipses the ability to form or maintain memories of the night, but I don’t think that will happen to me. Whether it’s giving a friendship bracelet to the little girl dressed in a folklore costume or seeing Taylor sing “Enchanted” or experiencing a Taylor Nation notice live during the show (yes, that happened), I feel like all these memories are imprinted on me. Maybe it’s cheesy or dramatic to say that, but it also feels true. Taylor made this show, planned it carefully (like a “Mastermind,” if you will), with the intention that we would all go down memory lane with her as she reexperienced her highly expansive discography, and I’m so thrilled and privileged to have been a part of that. So, yes, I will be “ hold(ing) on to the memories ,” because I can’t imagine letting a single moment from this night slip away.

It’s still one of, if not the hottest and most difficult tickets to get in the history of concert tours. Taylor Swift fans in Michigan will now have nine more chances to see the global superstar on her “The Eras Tour.”

No, she isn’t coming back to Ford Field where she performed two concerts on June 9 and 10, 2023. But she just added multiple shows within a short distance of the “Mitten State.”

“Swifties” will now have a chance to see her when she performs at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Friday, November 1, Saturday, November 2 and Sunday, November 3, 2024. Indianapolis is just over four hours by vehicle from Grand Rapids and about four and a half hours from Detroit.

Swift also just announced six concerts at Rogers Centre In Toronto for Thursday, November 14, Friday, November 15, Saturday, November 16, Thursday, November 21, Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, 2024. Toronto is a four hour drive from Detroit and six hours from Grand Rapids.

Verified Fan Registration for tickets for all nine shows is open now and can be done here for the three Indianapolis shows and here for the six Toronto concerts.

Swift has been performing more than 40 songs for over three hours at each of her “The Eras Tour” concerts. Her final U.S. shows before next year begin tonight in Los Angeles where she has six shows at SoFi Stadium. She then heads overseas for concerts all over the world for the next year.

Taylor Swift coming to Ford Field for "The Eras Tour" on June 10

Taylor Swift’s Latest Album Just Dropped And It Is Already A Massive Hit

(WXYZ) — Music superstar Taylor Swift is going on tour after the release of her latest album, and she'll be coming to Detroit in the summer of 2023.

Swift announced "The Eras Tour" is coming to Ford Field on June 10 with the special guests "girl in red" and "OWENN."

Her tour will hit 20 cities in the U.S. with tickets going on sale Nov. 18.

"I wanted to tell you something that I've been so excited about for a really long time and have been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you, I'm going back on tour." she said on GMA. "The tour is called 'The Eras Tour' and it's a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.

"Really, I'm just so excited to look you guys in the eyes and say, thank you for everything, thank you for this incredible week with 'Midnights' and thank you for everything you've done for me," she said.

Swift released her latest album "Midnights" on Oct. 21, and she became the first-ever artist to claim all 10 songs on the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 list this week.

"10 out of 10 of the Hot 100???" she tweeted. "On my 10th album??? I AM IN SHAMBLES."
