Genesis Adds More 2022 Dates to Reunion Tour

genesis tour 2022 dates

Genesis — Phil Collins, Michael Rutherford, and Tony Banks — have added two more dates to the 2022 edition of their reunion tour. On Oct. 25, they announced nine concerts, representing the first European dates of the tour. On Oct. 29, the day those shows went on sale, the band announced two additional concerts, due to demand. The 11 concerts – in Germany, France and the Netherlands – precede three London concerts that were rescheduled when Rutherford tested positive for Covid-19. See the itinerary below. Tickets for all shows are on sale  here .

On Oct. 8, the band postponed the final four dates of the U.K. edition of their 2021 reunion tour. (On Oct. 19, the shows at The O2 in London were rescheduled for March 2022. The announcement made no mention of the Oct. 8 show in Glasgow.) Though neither announcement identified who had taken ill, the touring band consists of the three veterans, plus Collins’ son, Nic, who serves as their drummer, as well as longtime Genesis touring band member, Daryl Stuermer, returns on guitar and bass.

At the time of the Oct. 19 announcement of the new London dates, Best Classic Bands wrote, “Given the enormity of the undertaking, it’s not unreasonable to expect that the group will decide to extend their reunion tour further into 2022, perhaps to Europe as well as other parts of North America beyond the east coast.”

In a Nov. 15 interview with USA Today , Banks neither confirmed nor denied that. “When we do the final show next year, that will be it,” he said. “We thought the 2007 tour would be the end, and this was never planned, so it was a nice thing to have happened. But it’s important to know when to stop something. So I’d say if you want to see Genesis, don’t put it off ‘til the next one. We’re not like the (Rolling) Stones.”

The U.K. leg of The Last Domino? tour began Sept. 20 in Birmingham and played for 12 shows before being suspended after their Oct. 7 concert in Glasgow.

On Jan. 22, 2021, they rescheduled their U.K. reunion tour a second time, due to the global pandemic. The dates, originally planned for November and December 2020 in the U.K. and Ireland have been pushed back to September and October 2021. (On July 24, 2020, the band moved the tour to April 2021. The magnitude of the pandemic proved those dates to be too premature.) See the revised schedule and new rehearsal teaser below.

From the Jan. 22 statement: “The decision to move the tour again is due to the global pandemic, and even with the roll out of the vaccine, there are still a huge amount of uncertainties and unanswered questions that make a tour in April difficult for everyone. It is appreciated, that for whatever reason, those planning on attending the shows may not feel comfortable doing so, so by moving the tour we can alleviate some of those concerns and in turn that will allow the band and the crew to prepare with less unpredictability and create a show that both the band and fans alike will treasure and enjoy.

In the earlier joint statement on Jan. 22, Collins, Banks and Rutherford said: “Well let’s just forget about that last year and focus on 2021 shall we! We can’t wait to finally get this show on the road, but we feel the decision to move the tour is the best one for those planning on attending and for us as a band and crew. We hope now we can all relax a little more and focus on the music and having a good night.”

Many tours have been delayed to 2022 or canceled altogether.

On April 1, 2021, Live Nation U.K. released a brief clip for the tour.

The day before, the station teased their “exclusive reveal” that “a massive band is reuniting.” That same day, the group posted a photo of the trio on their Instagram account with just the phrase, “And then there were three…”

Genesis fans will certainly recognize that that was the name of the band’s 1978 album, their first as a threesome. Collins, Rutherford and Banks last toured together in 2007.

There was no indication whether the tour would be extended to other countries.

The trio was seen at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Jan. 22, 2020, when they attended a Knicks game though, oddly, Collins was not seated with the other two. At that time, speculation was rife that the group would reunite.

The group’s original frontman, Peter Gabriel, who left the band in 1975 for a successful solo career, is not involved. (He’s appeared with the group on stage several times since his departure.)

Genesis concerts are known for having spectacular light shows. Best Classic Bands asked Banks about that. “Great lighting effects can carry the music along and present more of a show,” he said. “If you got it right, you heightened the emotion of the music. I’m not the most visual person onstage,” he added with a laugh.

Due to severe issues with his back, Collins, who turned 70 on January 30, is no longer able to drum. He has also dealt with hip issues in recent years and now sits throughout most of his solo tour performances. They’ll be joined on this tour by Collins’ son, Nic, who has filled in for his father behind the kit during his recent solo tours. (The younger Collins turned 20 on April 21.) Longtime Genesis touring band member, Daryl Stuermer, returns on guitar and bass.

In 2018, Best Classic Bands asked Banks about an inevitable reunion. His reply: “Well, Phil is obviously not able to drum. But I never say we’ll never play together again.” Banks turned 71 on March 27.

During the band’s commercial heyday in the ’80s, Genesis had five straight studio albums reach #1 in the U.K. Though they continually earned multiple Platinum sales in the U.S., a #1 album in America eluded them. 1986’s  Invisible Touch was their top seller. The album yielded five Top 5 singles in the U.S., including the title track which became their solo U.S. #1 hit.

Even while the band was active, Collins, Rutherford and Banks each had many solo endeavors. Collins continues to sell out stadiums and arenas on his own, and has sold a reported 150 million records (albums and singles) worldwide. Between 1984-1989, he earned an astounding seven #1 solo singles in the U.S., for such songs as “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” and “Another Day in Paradise.”

As the leader of Mike + the Mechanics, Rutherford has carved out a second career with such favorites as “The Living Years” and “All I Need is a Miracle.” Rutherford turned 69 on October 2. Banks’ solo releases have concentrated on orchestral pieces.

I sure wish Hackett and Peter were in. I’m not sure Phil can pull this off. Not that I would be able to get a ticket, but I’m afraid if I go, Phil is going to make me sad.

I don’t see how Phil Collins can do a big tour like that considering his health problems. And that’s too much for his son to have to handle by himself.

Genesis live 2021 / 2022 - tour dates

It has been a rather unlikely rumour for several years and then things got more and more likely - and then it was official. Genesis (Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford) will reunite. The shows scheduled for 2020 have been moved to April 2021 due to the Corona pandemic. Two additional shows have been added, one each for Birmingham and London. In January 2021, the shows were postponed to September and October in the light of the ongoing pandemic, then additional shows were announced for North America. After a couple of UK shows had to be cancelled, three London shows were moved to March 2022 and some additional shows in Germany, France and Netherlands were announced.

Daryl Stuermer (guitars) and Nicholas Collins (drums) will join the trio on stage for the shows in the UK and Ireland in 2021. Although it is likely that more shows will follow after 2021, nothing is confirmed right now.

The two background singers you can see are Daniel Pearce and Patrick Smyth . You can find further details in this thread in our forum.

A new compilation, The Last Domino? , has been released in Europe (17th September) and will be out in North America soon (17th November) on 2CD and 4LP. These compilations have slightly different tracklists. More info is available here .

As much as Phil Collins seems to come in for near-relentless stick these days - and as much as Genesis often bear the brunt of that too, often as a result of guilt by association - you couldn’t accuse them of being safe or formulaic; in fact, they helped to pioneer progressive and even art rock, long before Talk Talk were making records like Laughing Stock or Spirit of Eden. In doing so, they pushed the boundaries of what was thought possible in the late sixties and early seventies, and became a huge commercial success in the process. The band’s enduring popularity was attested to during their most recent reformation, in 2007; a twenty-date tour of the UK and Europe saw them packing out stadiums, with a free concert in Rome attracting half a million people to the city’s ancient Circus Maximus. A stunning, intricate stage show finally did some of their classics some justice, years and in some cases decades after many of them were recorded, and proved that the influence that Genesis have had on rock music since has by no means passed the public by; they’re currently officially on hiatus rather than disbanded again, so watch this space - even if Collins claims to have retired from the music business.

Great to be going to see them in Birmingham in December. It’s been far too long. Great also to see that after so many years of inactivity they have to put on double the shows.

Phil Collins, Genesis kick off final US tour: 'We’re not like the Stones'

genesis tour 2022 dates

Genesis fans , you have your notice.

Though the title of the band’s current tour, “The Last Domino?,” suggests an open-ended future, its members have confirmed that this is the final road run for an outfit that helped define prog-rock in the ’70s and reinvented itself to tremendous pop success in the MTV-driven ’80s.

Since the start of the tour in Europe this fall, frontman Phil Collins , 70, whose drumming imbued Genesis with its characteristic sound, has performed seated on stage, the result of debilitating nerve damage that affects his hands and back.

Collins’ 20-year-old son, Nicholas, is replacing his dad behind the drums.

Keyboardist Tony Banks, and bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford , both 71 and co-founders of the band that boasted Peter Gabriel as its inaugural lead singer (he departed after “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” album in 1974), are at peace with the reality of finality. Rutherford, though, is well aware that there “will be a lot of tears” when that last gig wraps in 2022.

50 years in: Billy Joel talks about his lengthy career

Genesis’ U.S. tour - its first since 2007 - kicks off Monday with two nights at the United Center in Chicago before roaming North America for more than a dozen shows, including Washington, D.C., Toronto, Detroit, Philadelphia and New York.

Rutherford said no West Coast dates are planned, which means Genesis’ March 2022 European concerts, including three makeup dates – necessitated after COVID-19 infected their ranks – in London March 24-26, will be the end.

Genesis will also be joined on stage by longtime touring guitarist Daryl Stuermer . The band hopes its visually arresting show satisfies its generations of fans with a set list that includes ’70s favorites “I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe),” “The Cinema Show,” “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” and ’80s radio smashes “Land of Confusion,” “Invisible Touch,” “That’s All”.

Rutherford and Banks talked to USA TODAY shortly before the U.S. tour launch for a candid chat:

Question: There has obviously been concern for Phil’s strength and stamina. How has he been enduring the road?

Mike Rutherford:   He’s done well. Funny enough, we almost got through the (European) tour and I got COVID, but Phil was perfect. He’s doing fine. When you see the show, he definitely holds the crowd.

Q: What were some of the challenges for both of you to adapt to your frontman being seated?

Tony Banks: We spent a lot of time thinking about the vocals and slightly changed the emphasis of the set so it’s a bit less instrumental. Nic really plugs the gap very well and the visuals work in a way that a seated Phil isn’t as noticeable.

Rutherford: In a way, we’re lucky with what you can do with screens now, how it can make it feel like movement with close-ups. People come to the show and say they forget Phil isn’t moving around.

Q: Nicholas is, by all accounts, doing a phenomenal job. What was it like for you to get used to someone else behind the drum kit?

Banks: He’s a very versatile drummer and can sound like Phil when he was 18, 19 years old. He’s able to get that same kind of feel, so much so that it’s uncanny at times like you’re playing with a young Phil. And he’s a lovely person to have on tour.

Rutherford: In fact, when we first started rehearsing pre-pandemic, Nic arrived so prepared. It was fantastic. He knew all the songs backward and forward. He was solid from day one.

Banks: He did know the stuff very well, but once he had to learn (more of the catalog), he worked really hard at it. He wants to do the job and was very excited about doing the Genesis stuff.

A busy Sting: New album, new Vegas show means no retirement yet for the musician

Q: Choosing the set list had to be a massive challenge because the two chapters of Genesis sound very, very different and I would think you have fans from those different eras. What was that process like?

Rutherford: You have the long songs and the short hits, which you know you’ll play. It’s more the optional songs (that are the challenge). Our history in the last 30-odd years has been since MTV when the hits overshadowed the rest of the album. But onstage the long songs were always very popular.

Banks: People aren’t quite as divided as you suggest. It blends into one for us and there are many people in the audience who like it all. You’re always going to leave out someone’s favorite song, so you try to balance it out.

Q: There is a question mark at the end of the tour name, but Phil has said this is his last outing. Do you agree this is probably it for Genesis and the road?

Banks: I think it is. We’d always say never say never, but there comes a point. I haven’t toured myself since (the last Genesis reunion in) 2007, and thought, why not? It’s fun, it will get me off my (butt). But with the pandemic, it has extended things longer than intended, but it’s been great fun to do. We’ve having to do some stuff later because of COVID, but when we do the final show next year, that will be it.

Rutherford: I think there will be a lot of tears. It will be an emotional moment if you know it’s going to be our final song. Genesis has been all of my life, 50 or 60 years, and it will be something I miss. It’s been nice for the three of us to spend some reconnected time together. It makes you solidify things. There are things that that only the three of us understand because we lived it.

Banks: We thought the 2007 tour would be the end, and this was never planned, so it was a nice thing to have happened. But it’s important to know when to stop something. I thought the other day, Ed Sheeran is playing four nights at Wembley Stadium (in 2022) and that’s a wonderful moment in his career. We hit that moment 35 years ago. So I’d say if you want to see Genesis, don’t put it off ‘til the next one. We’re not like the (Rolling) Stones.

Genesis ‘Turn It on Again’ at Emotional Reunion Tour Launch in Birmingham

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

When the lights dimmed at Birmingham, England’s Utilita Arena on Monday evening and Genesis walked onstage to kick off their long-awaited The Last Domino? reunion tour, it was hard not to feel just a little trepidation.

It had been 14 years since they’d played even a single song together in public, and in that time Phil Collins suffered significant health setbacks that left him frail and unable to play the drums or even stand for extended periods of time. The show was the first of their three Birmingham concerts that launched the band’s tour.

George clooney phones white house after biden rebukes wife’s work on israel warrants, phish fan banned from sphere for taking bong rip: ‘no regrets’, 'house of the dragon' season 2 repeats same thrills — and mistakes — as season 1.

Collins sat passively in a chair perched at the front of the stage while the band, which now includes his 20-year-old son Nicholas on drums, launched the show with the 1980 instrumental “Duke’s End.” But then they transitioned into “Turn It on Again” and all doubts about the ability of Collins to front the band melted away by the time the first verse was over. He may not have the vocal range he had in 1987 or even 2007, but he can still project with real power and conviction (no easy feat from a seated position for any vocalist), and his charisma is undiminished.

The “Duke’s End”/”Turn It on Again” double shot was the start of a delicate balancing act that continued through the whole evening where they tried to satisfy fans of their pop hits and the smaller (but far more vocal) segment that prefer their more complex prog tunes. That’s tough since “Invisible Touch” and “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” sound almost like the work of two completely different bands, but they actually found a way to make it work. The end result was one of the most satisfying reunion concerts by any band in recent memory.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

None of it would have worked if Nicholas Collins hadn’t developed the ability to play his father’s parts with remarkable precision. He’s the exact same age Collins was when he joined the band, and the mixture of DNA and years of work in his solo band have paid off in incredible ways. There were moments where Phil walked to the drum riser to watch him play an instrumental passage from up close, and his fatherly pride was clear to everybody in the arena.

Nicholas Collins is the backbone of this new incarnation of Genesis, which also includes founding members Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, and longtime touring guitarist Daryl Stuermer. In a Genesis first, backup vocalists (Daniel Pearce and Patrick Smyth) were added to the mix to help Collins with some of the higher notes, although they only appeared on select songs and were quite unobtrusive.

The tour was originally supposed to begin in November 2020, but the pandemic forced the band to delay it first to April 2021, and finally to this month. “It’s been a long time coming,” Collins said early in the night. “We know it’s been a difficult couple of years for everybody here, and those at home. But we finally made it, and we’re going to have some fun tonight.”

That fun included expected radio hits — such as “Land of Confusion,” “Invisible Touch,” “No Son of Mine,” “Throwing It All Away,” and “Tonight, Tonight, Tonight”  — along with longtime concert staples “Home By the Sea” and “Domino.” But there were also some very unexpected diversions. There was the Duke deep cut “Duchess” (unplayed since 1981), and an acoustic mini-set (a Genesis first) that included “That’s All,” “Follow You Follow Me,” and a radically reworked “The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway,” which stripped away the keyboard intro and anything even remotely prog. It was “The Lamb” for coffee shops and the only real misstep of the night.

Per longstanding tradition, songs from the Peter Gabriel era were largely relegated to instrumental medleys, and only the truly faithful in the audience were likely able to discern the bits of “The Cinema Show,” “In That Quiet Earth,” and “Firth of Fifth” sprinkled throughout the set. But they did play a full version of “I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe),” complete with a brief, seated version of Collin’s old tambourine dance routine.

Genesis have been pushing the boundaries of stage design since their earliest days with Peter Gabriel, and this was a particularly impressive setup with a movable lighting rig that looked like giant dominos, and a screen that showed new animations for many of the songs, including a horde of angry, masked protestors during “Land of Confusion.”

The encore opened with an inevitable “I Can’t Dance,” and in the most jarring transition of the night, they followed it with the opening verse of 1973’s “Dancing With the Moonlit Knight.” It was the first time Collins sang a note of the song since the Jimmy Carter administration, and it flowed right into a singalong rendition of “The Carpet Crawlers” from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

That would have been the emotional high point of most Genesis shows, but that actually came much earlier in the set when they dug out “Fading Lights” for the first time since 1992. The fantastically obscure song wrapped up We Can’t Dance  and was essentially Collins saying goodbye to his Genesis bandmates, and their fans.

“Another time it might have been so different,” Collins sang. “Oh, if only we could do it all again/But now it’s just another fading memory/Out of focus, though the outline still remains.”

He was merely 40 when he first sang those words, and they carried a very different emotional weight when he delivered them in his current physical state at 70, joined onstage only by Banks and Rutherford for the opening verse.

Collins has said he has no intention of playing with Genesis again after this tour. And unless miracles happen and Peter Gabriel returns at some future date, that means the group is done when this tour is done. But few fans could have expected a final tour this magnificent, and it’s just getting started.

In a four-star review of the show at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, The Guardian ’s Alexis Petridis wrote: “The story the show effectively tells is worth commemorating: that of a band who seemed profoundly implausible candidates for global ubiquity, but achieved it nonetheless.” The Yorkshire Post observed of the Leeds Direct Arena concert during the UK tour: “If this is the last Genesis tour – which seems likely – they undoubtedly signed off their musical odyssey in style.”

Genesis , who are among the biggest selling recording artists of all time and one of Britain's most internationally renowned bands, will be touring for the first time in 13 years.

The Last Domino? Tour  will be Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford’s first live outing together since the globe-trotting, sell-out Turn It On Again: The Tour in 2007. They will be joined on stage by Nic Collins on drums, and the bands long time guitar and bass player Daryl Stuermer .

Genesis are one of the world’s biggest selling and most successful bands of all time. They have sold an estimated 100 million albums and have played to sold-out stadiums and arenas all over the world for decades.

The evolution of Genesis is unique, their sound developed and progressed throughout their career and with multiple line-up alterations in the early years, the classic line-up of Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford took shape in 1976.

‘And Then There Were Three’ (1978) was the first album the band released as a three-piece and spawned the single ‘Follow You Follow Me’ which was their first UK top ten and US top 30 single and proved to be the start of huge commercial global success. The albums ‘Duke’ (1980), ‘Abacab’ (1981), ‘Genesis’ (1983), ‘Invisible Touch’ (1986) and ‘We Can’t Dance’ (1991) followed for the trio, alongside almost constant global stadium tours cementing the band as one of the most successful of all time.

Tony, Phil and Mike reunited again as a band in 2007 after almost 10 years for the Turn It On Again Tour which went on to be one of the biggest grossing tours on the year playing sold-out stadiums around the world.

Cyndi Lauper Announces Massive Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour — See the Dates!

T he tour announcement comes shortly before a documentary on Lauper's life and career, 'Let the Canary Sing,' will be released to Paramount+ on June 4

  • The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour is a 23-date string of arena concerts in celebration of her decades-long career
  • The tour will kick off in October 2024 and continue through December 2024

Cyndi Lauper is nearing the end of her touring career — but not before one more big run of shows.

On Monday, June 3, the Grammy winner, 70, announced her massive upcoming Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, a 23-date string of arena concerts in celebration of her decades-long career. Special guests for the trek will be revealed at a later date.

Lauper's first major headlining tour since 2013, the run kicks off Friday, Oct. 18 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and makes stops in cities including Toronto, Detroit, Boston, New York City, Nashville, Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and more before wrapping Thursday, Dec. 5 at the United Center in Chicago.

Tickets first become available through an artist presale on Tuesday, June 4, with additional presales running throughout the week before the general onsale launches on Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m. local time. More information can be found at Live Nation's website , while VIP packages are also available through VIP Nation .

Lauper previously teased the idea of a farewell tour in an October 2022 interview with PEOPLE. "I might go out on tour one more time — big time — and maybe be the headliner," she said at the time.

Over the past decade, the "True Colors" performer has opened for artists including Rod Stewart ,  Cher  and Blondie. "I've had the privilege of working with a lot of wonderful people, but I gotta see," added Lauper, who noted she'd "like to" tour in celebration of her debut album, She's So Unusual , marking its 40th anniversary in 2023.

The tour announcement comes shortly before Let the Canary Sing , a new documentary about Lauper's life and career, is released on Paramount+ on June 4.

At the film's Tribeca Festival premiere last year, she opened up to PEOPLE about the inspiration behind her signature hit, "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," originally recorded by Robert Hazard.

"I was trying really hard to make an anthem that would inspire women and open the doors to all women," said Lauper in June 2023. "Not just one group of women, but every little girl could see herself and realize that she too could have a joyful experience in life."

Ellen DeGeneres is embarking on one last hurrah in her stand-up career.

This summer, the 66-year-old comedian will take a lap around North America on a 27-show tour, titled Ellen’s Last Stand… Up . Per a release shared with PEOPLE, the dates will be the “last opportunity” to witness DeGeneres in her “final curtain call.”

Produced by Live Nation, Ellen’s Last Stand… Up will be DeGeneres’ final comeback to comedy. The tour will see the former talk show host “reintroduce her trademark wit and laughter-inducing anecdotes” to a live crowd.

"Here it is! These are the cities and dates for my final stand-up tour," DeGeneres wrote on Insatgram . "Pre-sale starts tomorrow May 30th at 10am local time with code CHICKEN. Get your tickets at ellenshop.com/tour."

Tickets will also be available to the general public on Friday, May 31, at 10 a.m. local time.

Earlier this May, PEOPLE announced that DeGeneres' upcoming Netflix special — set to be taped Aug. 16 and 17 in Minneapolis — will be her “last.”

“To answer the questions everyone is asking me — Yes, I’m going to talk about it,” DeGeneres said in a statement. “Yes, Portia [de Rossi] really is that pretty in real life."

DeGeneres implies that the stand-up set will broach even the most controversial topics, like the controversy surrounding The Ellen DeGeneres Show 's alleged toxic workplace environment. The claims, which first emerged in a BuzzFeed News report , included being penalized for taking medical leave, instances of racial microaggressions and fear of punishment for raising complaints.

DeGeneres long-running series concluded in 2022 after 19 seasons. Before that, she confirmed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the toxic workplace controversy was not a factor in her decision to conclude the series.

In her latest routine, which she performed at the Largo in Los Angeles on April 24 , DeGeneres joked about being “kicked out of show business” for being “mean.” She also admitted that although she “hated the way the show ended,” she was happy to be back onstage with her marriage to de Rossi, 51, stronger than ever.

“I think we need more laughter and less drama,” the Emmy winner added.

Michael Rozman/Warner Bros.

With a comedy career dating back to the ‘70s, the Seriously…I’m Kidding author has racked up numerous accolades over the years, including 12 Daytime Emmy awards for outstanding entertainment talk show, a Primetime Emmy award for her self-titled sitcom, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom .

Her most recent Netflix special, Relatable , was released in 2018 following a 15-year hiatus from stand-up comedy. In February 2024, she made another return to her roots to perform a surprise set at Beth Stelling’s “Beth & Pals” show alongside Adam Sandler , Sarah Silverman , Aidy Bryant , Ted Lasso ’s Brett Goldstein , Alana Johnston and Nthenya from Kenya.
