LIV Golf Invitational Series 2022 Schedule: Dates, courses, locations

Dates, locations and courses. This is everything you need to know about the LIV Golf 2022 schedule.

liv golf tour 2022 schedule

After a tumultuous build-up, the LIV Golf Invitational Series kicked off at Centurion Club just outside London in June 2022.

Bankrolled by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, LIV Golf will host eight events in its inaugural season.

In total, the prize purse for the entire global series is $255million. For the first seven events, the field of 48 players will compete for $25million.

Of that money, $20million is guaranteed to be handed out to the players. The winner takes home $4million whilst the last-placed finisher earns $120,000.

The other $5million is reserved for the team element. The 48 players in each tournament are divided into 12 teams of four with their team captains.

Here's how much the leading LIV Golf players have earned so far in 2022 .

The series finale, hosted at Trump National Doral in Miami, will be a $50million prize purse event.

The LIV Golf Team Championship will be a four-day, four-round, match play knock out event featuring 12 teams.

There will still be a shotgun start in the series finale.

The team that wins will walk away with $16million , followed by $10million for second and $8million for third.

As you can imagine, the highest-profile players have been selected as the individual captains. They also choose players via a draft.

Dustin Johnson and his "4 Aces GC" dominated the team element over the start of LIV Golf, winning two out of the first three tournaments.

Johnson's team mates are Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch and Pat Perez.

The team that won the first LIV Golf event was "Stinger GC", comprising of South Africans Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace and Hennie du Plessis.

Next year, LIV Golf have announced plans to expand into a league.

The prize purses have also more than doubled, with the players competing for a whopping $405million  over  14 events.

LIV Golf Schedule 2022 - Upcoming Events And 2023 Speculation

Just three events remain in this year's inaugural LIV Golf Series, and attention is beginning to turn to how 2023 might look

Cameron Smith takes a shot at the 2022 LIV Golf Chicago event

LIV GOLF SCHEDULE

With the completion of the fifth tournament in the inaugural LIV Golf season at Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago, attention began turning to the final three events - two of which will take place outside the USA.

After beginning in London in June, the next four tournaments took place in the USA - some controversially at the same time as PGA Tour events in the same country. However, after that extended run in the US, three tournaments in October - with two in Asia - bring the Series to a close.

The sixth tournament takes place in Bangkok at Stonehill between 7 and 9 October. Following that, the action moves to Saudi Arabia capital Jeddah for the final regular event of the season at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, between 14 and 16 October. Then it's back to the USA for the finale featuring a $50m knockout team championship format at Trump National Doral in Florida, between 28 and 30 October.

That season-ending event differs from the regular tournaments, and not just because it offers double the prize money. The format of the 2022 Invitational Series Team Championship will also be different. It will comprise singles and  foursomes match play  over the first two days, finishing with stroke play on the final day as the 12 teams compete for a share of the purse. The team crowned LIV Golf Invitational Series Team Champion will split $16 million equally between its four members, with $10 million awarded to second place and $8 million to the team in third to bring the season to a spectacular conclusion.

Having secured some of the world's top players, including Dustin Johnson , Brooks Koepka , Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith , and with a TV deal reportedly close to being agreed , the powers-that-be at LIV Golf will doubtless be satisfied with the overall impact of the inaugural season after the the final putt has rolled in at the iconic Blue Monster course.

However, it is unlikely CEO Greg Norman and co will rest on their laurels for long, with plans to turn the Series into a 14-tournament League for 2023 courtesy of an additional $405m of investment. While the schedule hasn't yet been confirmed, and negotiations on venues are reportedly ongoing , a report per Sports Illustrated offers us a glimpse as to how the new League might look. Below is a breakdown of the schedule and results for 2022 followed by an insight into how the 2023 schedule is shaping up.

LIV Golf Series Schedule And Results 2022

  • June 9-11: London - Centurion Club (Result - Individual: Charl Schwartzel Team: Stingers GC)

The 2023 season is expected to begin in February with three US tournaments - one in Florida, another in California, and a March tournament in Arizona. After that, it is thought the League will go around the world, beginning in Australia in April, followed by a tournaments in Singapore, then back to the USA for events in Washington DC and Philadelphia in May. It is then anticipated that the League will go back to where LIV Golf began, at London's Centurion Club, next July.

Another July tournament is slated for Spain, then three more US-based tournaments are expected in August and September, with the penultimate tournament thought to be earmarked for either Canada or Mexico later that month. Finally, the League season is expected to conclude back at Florida's Trump National Doral.

Saudi-backed LIV Golf announces eight-event, $255 million series that will visit United States

1368018438

Oisin Keniry

LIV Golf, the Saudi Arabia-back group fronted by Greg Norman that for some time has been attempting to lure the game’s best players to compete on a global circuit to rival the PGA Tour, announced the formal creation of its league and an inaugural schedule Wednesday.

The eight-tournament, $255 million series—called the LIV Golf Invitational—will kick off at the Centurion Club outside of London the week before the U.S. Open starting June 9. Each event will be a three-round, 54-hole competition with no cuts. There will also be shotgun starts in order to fit the events in a shorter time window, along with a team component, with 48 players divided between 12 squads. Four of the events will be held in the United States. Those sites are Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland (July 1-3), Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. (July 29-31), the International in Boston (Sept. 2-4) and Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago (Sept. 16-18). Other hosts include Stonehill Golf Club in Bangkok and Royal Greens Golf Club in Jeddah. A site for the final event, the team championship, was not announced.

The first seven events will each boast $25 million purses, $20 million for individual prizes and another $5 million for the team competition. The eighth event will offer $30 million for the top three players of the season, with another $50 million for teams in total prize funds.

“Our events are truly additive to the world of golf,” Norman, CEO of LIV Golf and a World Golf Hall of Famer, said in a statement. “We have done our best to create a schedule that allows players to play elsewhere, while still participating in our events. I believe players will increasingly make progress in achieving their right to play where they want. We will help in any way possible and will provide golfers with opportunities to achieve their full potential.”

MORE: Where top pros stand on the Saudi league, in their own words

On Tuesday, Norman sent a memo to players promising more playing opportunities in the near future. The letter, which has been obtained by Golf Digest, states: “We are launching, and we will continue to drive this vision forward. We will not stop.”

“While we respect that some of you may have concerns, know that we will work tirelessly with you to alleviate them," Norman continued. “Our goal always will be to let you focus on your playing performance, while benefiting from new opportunities, whenever you are ready for them.”

However, Wednesday's announcement of the series did not include the names of any players who had committed to playing the events. Additionally, there was no mention of a broadcast partner that would televise the events.

In February 2022, LIV Golf announced a $300 million, 10-year investment in the Asian Tour at the Saudi International that included a 10-event international series that will host tournaments in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. The investment was made in exchange for the Asian Tour sanctioning LIV Golf events.

LIV Golf has targeted the sport's marquee players to join its league. However, following the Fire Pit Collective’s publication last month of controversial comments by Phil Mickelson, nearly all of the game’s biggest names have distanced themselves from the LIV effort, including two of LIV Golf’s top targets in Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has promised that any player who sided with a rival league would face suspension and possibly a lifetime ban.

In response to Wednesday's announcement, a PGA Tour spokesperson said, "As we have stated repeatedly in recent weeks, the PGA Tour has moved on."

MORE: Can players be banned legall from the PGA Tour for joining the Saudi-back golf league?

LIV is financially backed by the controversial Public Investment Fund. The PIF is essentially the financial arm of the Saudi Arabia government, which has been accused of numerous human-rights violations. To improve its reputation, especially to the Western world, Saudi Arabia has heavily invested in various athletic organizations and events, a practice often referred to as “sportswashing.” This exercise, particularly when used by state-run groups, is considered a form of propaganda to distract the public from its abuses. Last weekend Saudi Arabia held a mass execution of 81 people in a single day. According to the United Nations at least 41 were men who had taken part in anti-government protests.

The inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series has reached its halfway point, with the fifth of the eight scheduled events set to take place at Rich Harvest Farms in Chicago this week.

The Saudi-backed circuit has caused controversy within the golfing world since its launch this year, with the PGA Tour suspending indefinitely players who elected to compete in LIV Golf events.

Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter were among the first wave of players to join the series, consisting of 54-hole events limited to a 48-man field, with Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Champion Golfer of the Year Cameron Smith all signing since.

Eligible LIV Golf members can currently still compete on the DP World Tour, with Poulter one of 15 golfers to travel from the LIV Golf event in Boston to play at the BMW PGA Championship last week, with fines and sanctions for joining the breakaway tour temporarily lifted until a hearing next February.

There have been no additional signings for this week's LIV Golf event, with 46 of the 48-man field returning from the Boston tournament earlier this month and the two changes being golfers who have already competed on the tour this season.

Henrik Stenson returns from injury to replace Shergo Al Kurdi in Majesticks GC, while David Puig comes in for Spain's Adrian Otaegui in the roster and joins Torque GC after turning professional this week.

The story so far

The series launched in June at Centurion Club near London, with South Africa's Charl Schwartzel winning the individual event as well as being part of Stinger GC who cruised to victory in the team contest. Schwartzel's double success saw the former Masters champion pick up a total of $4.75m in prize money, including $4m for the individual prize.

Another South African, Branden Grace, prevailed in the second tournament at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Portland with 4 Aces GC, consisting of Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch and Pat Perez snaffling the team prize.

The big controversy ahead of the third tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster was the decision of Henrik Stenson to switch to the Greg Norman-fronted tour, with the Swede being stripped of the Ryder Cup captaincy as a result.

Stenson's move paid instant dividends for him, though, as he earned a bumper $4m payday by winning the tournament by two strokes, with 4 Aces once again taking the team honours.

The series remained in the United States for the fourth tournament, with another six new names in the field, the most controversial of them being Open champion Cameron Smith, who had confirmed his long-rumoured switch after the Tour Championship.

Cameron Smith

Smith tied for fourth place at The International in Boston, finishing just one shot behind Johnson, and two fellow newcomers in Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann, with Johnson prevailing after the first play-off in the series. The American also added $750,000 to his $4m pay packet with another victory for 4 Aces in the team event.

The win elevated Johnson to the top of the individual standings with 94 points, ahead of Grace (77), Carlos Ortiz (48), Talor Gooch (48) and Matthew Wolff (47). The top three finishers at the end of the seven-event regular season will receive bonuses from the $30m purse, with the winner taking $18m and the runner-up earning $8m.

Also on the agenda: Cold, hard cash.

This first-ever LIV Nashville event has a total purse of $25 million. Of that amount, $20 million is for individual winnings and $5 million is for LIV’s team competition.

The winning individual will receive $4 million. The winning team will earn $3 million.

For context, DeChambeau's $4.3 million winnings last week were part of a record U.S. Open purse of $21.5 million.

Nashville is the ninth tournament on LIV’s 14-event schedule and the first to be held in Tennessee. Play runs Friday through Sunday. Saturday is sold out but other tickets are available here .

The no-cut format includes 54 individuals and 13 teams. There will be a 12:15 p.m. shotgun start each day.

LIV Golf is a professional men's golf circuit that was formed in 2021 and began official play in 2022. The league is owned by the Public Investment Fund, a wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. LIV's generous tournament payouts and huge financial contracts have helped recruit former PGA Tour members and major championship winners DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Brooks Koepka, Louis Oosthuizen, Phil Mickelson , Jon Rahm, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Cameron Smith, Henrik Stenson and Bubba Watson.

With that has spawned a fierce rivalry with the PGA Tour, which has long operated North America's top professional golf tournaments, outside the major championships. Last year, LIV and the PGA Tour announced a framework agreement to merge, but no deal has been signed .

LIV has not released complete player groupings for Nashville, but it confirmed DeChambeau, who outdueled Rory McIlroy for last week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst, will play.

WATCH: Senate panel examines merger between PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf

WASHINGTON (AP) — The negotiators of a business deal between the PGA Tour and the Saudi funders of LIV Golf discussed ousting LIV chief executive Greg Norman and giving Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy their own LIV teams, according to  documents obtained by Congress .

Watch the hearing in the player above.

Those were among the many proposals to unify golf’s rival factions that representatives of the PGA Tour and the Saudi government discussed this spring during their hasty negotiations. The talks culminated in a  framework agreement  announced last month between the tour and Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund.

Details of those talks were made public ahead of a hearing Tuesday by the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which is looking into the agreement because of the geopolitical implications of Saudi investment in American sports.

“We’re here because we’re concerned about what it means for an authoritarian government to use its wealth to capture an American institution,” said Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., the subcommittee chairman.

The Saudis have agreed to invest “north of $1 billion” into a new for-profit company the tour intends to create, Ron Price, the PGA Tour’s chief operating officer, testified at the hearing.

Blumenthal repeatedly pressed Price and Jimmy Dunne, a PGA Tour board member and a key negotiator of the Saudi deal, on why the tour did not seek alternative sources of funding to compete with LIV Golf and its backer, Saudi Arabia’s $600 billion Public Investment Fund. In response, Price and Dunne said going into business with outside investors would not prevent LIV Golf and the PIF from continuing to compete with the tour and use its vast resources to sign top players.

“My entire concern here is to put this divisive period behind us, and for the sake of players, fans, sponsors and charities, unite the game of golf again,” Dunne said.

The deal to bring Saudi investment into the PGA Tour shocked the golf world and also has invited scrutiny from the Justice Department, which is looking into potential antitrust violations.

“There is something that stinks about this path that you’re on right now because it is a surrender, and it is all about the money, and that is the reason for the backlash that you’re seeing, Mr. Price,” Blumenthal said. “The equity ownership interest that the Saudis will have … gives them financial dominance. They control the purse strings.”

Critics of the Saudi investment in golf have pointed to the kingdom’s poor human rights record and the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which U.S. intelligence concluded was likely approved by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, an allegation the crown prince denies. The PIF has bought its way into other sports including soccer — it owns Newcastle United of the English Premier League — and Formula One racing.

Republicans on the committee, including ranking member Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, were less critical of the tour leaders for negotiating with the Saudis and expressed reservations about Congress getting involved in a private business deal that hasn’t been completed. Johnson suggested that Saudi involvement in sports ultimately could improve human rights in the kingdom.

“If the kingdom’s involvement in golf and other sports helps it to modernize or offer rights to women, wouldn’t that be a good thing?” Johnson said.

The documents released by the subcommittee also detail the roles of people on the Saudi side of the negotiations, notably Amanda Staveley, a British investment banker who helped broker the Newcastle deal and now sits on the team’s board, and Roger Devlin, a British businessman. Devlin was the first to approach Dunne about the prospect of a deal between the tour and LIV, the documents show.

A memo from Staveley’s firm titled “The Best of Both Worlds” includes the proposal that Woods and McIlroy take ownership of LIV teams and that each of them play in 10 LIV events per year. There is no indication in the documents that either Woods or McIlroy, both of whom remained loyal to the PGA Tour in its dispute with LIV, were ever informed of the idea.

Woods has played only twice this year and is recovering from ankle surgery to address complications from a car crash in Los Angeles in early 2021 that he has said will severely limit his playing schedule going forward.

Among the other proposals included in the memo are a mixed-gender, LIV-style team event with qualifying in Saudi Arabia and concluding in Dubai; awarding world ranking points to LIV events, including retroactively; and PIF sponsorship of two elevated PGA Tour events, including one in Saudi Arabia.

None of those proposals was included in the framework agreement that Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the PIF, and PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan signed on June 6. The agreement called for the parties to drop all lawsuits and to combine the commercial interests of the PGA Tour, LIV and the European tour into a new, for-profit company while maintaining the PGA Tour’s nonprofit status.

The proposal to replace Norman as LIV’s CEO was included in a side agreement that was negotiated ahead of the announcement but was never executed. Asked by Blumenthal whether Norman was out of a job, Price said that if the tour and the PIF complete their business deal, the tour would control LIV and Norman’s job would be eliminated.

“We would no longer have a requirement for that type of position,” Price said.

Emails obtained by the committee showed that Dunne and fellow PGA Tour board member Ed Herlihy discussed with Monahan the prospect of Dunne and Herlihy replacing Norman.

Norman remains in the CEO role, although he has been largely sidelined as the public face of LIV since the deal was announced. He was invited to testify at Tuesday’s hearing along with Al-Rumayyan; both declined. Monahan also did not testify because he is recovering from an unspecified medical situation that kept him out of work for a month; he has said he plans to return next week.

2024 Travelers Championship live stream, TV schedule, channel, where to watch, tee times, radio, golf coverage

A busy three-week stretch in professional golf comes to an end this week in connecticut.

travelers-championship-signage-g.jpg

The 2024 Travelers Championship appears to be heading to an exciting finish. Taking to TPC River Highlands once again, Sunday's final round has moved into a playoff as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Tom Kim battle for the trophy and a massive prize money payout .

Failing to card a single under-par round in a tournament for the first time in his professional career, Scheffler looks to get back on the wagon and capture his sixth victory of the season. A win at TPC River Highlands would be his first at a course which saw Xander Schauffele reign supreme in 2022.

The world No. 2 continues to display his consistency on a weekly basis and has now notched four straight top 10s dating back to the Wells Fargo Championship. With plenty of form in tow, Schaffuele seeks his second win of the season and second trophy at the Travelers Championship.
