PM Modi’s UAE schedule

Following the visit of Modi to UAE in August 2015, the bilateral relations between the two countries were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both the countries signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in February 2022 and a Local Currency Settlement (LCS) System in July 2023 to promote the use of Indian Rupee and AED for cross-border transactions.
The two countries are among each other’s top trading partners with a bilateral trade of about $85 billion in 2022-23. The UAE is also among the top four investors in India in terms of foreign direct investments in 2022-23.
About 3.5 million Indian community forms the largest expatriate group in UAE. Their contribution in the development of their host country has been an important factor in the strong bilateral relationship.

The publication of the final electoral roll would be done by august 20 and the cut-off date for enrolling as an elector in poll-bound states and jammu and kashmir would be july 1..
In a development potentially setting the stage for holding the elections in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission of India on Thursday wrote to the Chief Electoral Officers of the poll-bound states and UTs, asking them to complete the special summary revision of electoral rolls by August 20.
The Indian Express, citing sources, reported that the EC wrote to the state CEOs, including those of Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday initiating the process of updating the electoral roll. The publication of the final electoral roll would be done by August 20, as per the schedule, and the cut-off date for enrolling as an elector in these states and UT would be July 1, the IE report cited an EC source as saying.
Notably, the Supreme Court , while upholding the abrogation of Article 370 last year, had ordered the EC to hold Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections by September 30. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said earlier this month that the poll panel would start the process of conducting the elections “very soon”.
In his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir after the formation of the new NDA government at the Centre, Prime MInister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that preparations for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have begun. The people of Jammu and Kashmir elect their representatives at the local level, through them you find ways to solve problems, what can be better than this? Therefore, the preparations for the Assembly elections have also started,” PM Modi said.
He further added that the time wasn’t far when the people of Jammu and Kashmir will elect its new government through their votes. “That day will also come soon, when Jammu and Kashmir will once again make its future better as a state.”
The Prime Minister had spoken of the restoration of statehood and holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir earlier as well. Speaking to news agency PTI ahead of the Lok Sabha elections this year, Modi said that the government was committed to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and was working towards it.
“The restoration of statehood is a solemn promise we have made and we stand by it. We are working very hard to create the right conditions so that it can be done expeditiously,” he told PTI.
Jammu and Kashmir lost its special status when it was bifurcated into two Union territories in 2019.

The rupee fell to a record low of 83.6475 against the dollar, driven by a rise in the dollar against Asian currencies and strong demand from local importers. Despite this, the rupee remains the best performing currency in Asia this year. The fall was also influenced by the broader strength of the dollar and corporate outflows.

Narendra modi will travel from delhi to madhya pradesh, then to kerala, followed by the union territory of dadra and nagar haveli and daman and diu..
In a whirlwind tour to launch several development projects in two states and a Union Territory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel more than 5,300 km through seven cities and attend eight programmes in 36 hours beginning Monday.
Modi will travel from Delhi to Madhya Pradesh in central India, then to Kerala in south, followed by the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu in west, before returning to the national capital on Tuesday, officials said.
They said the prime minister will travel from Delhi to Khajuraho, covering a distance of around 500 km, and then to Rewa to participate in a National Panchayati Raj Day programme.
After this, he will come back to Khajuraho, covering a distance of around 280 km in the to and fro journey, and then travel to Kochi, covering an aerial distance of about 1,700 km, to participate in the Yuvam Conclave.
On Tuesday morning, Modi will travel from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram, covering a distance of about 190 km, where he will flag off a Vande Bharat Express train and also dedicate and lay the foundation stones of various projects.
From there, the prime minister will travel to Silvassa via Surat, covering about 1,570 km, the officials added.
At Silvassa, Modi will visit the NAMO medical college and dedicate and lay the foundation stones of various projects. After this, he will travel to Daman for the inauguration of the Devka seafront, following which he will go to Surat, covering about 110 km. From Surat, Modi will travel back to Delhi, adding another 940 km to his travel schedule, the officials said.
"The hectic schedule will see the prime minister travelling an aerial distance of around 5,300 km. To put this figure in perspective, one can look at the length of India from north to south, which is about 3,200 km," an official said, noting that the entire travel and other programmes of the prime minister are packed in only 36 hours.
Modi is known to keep a busy schedule during his travel, domestic as well as international, and officials have often highlighted how the prime minister ensures that his trips are packed with important meetings and programmes.

NEW DELHI — India and the United States on Monday pledged to strengthen defense and technology cooperation and remove long-standing barriers to bilateral strategic trade, following a meeting between the national security advisers of both countries.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is on a two-day visit to the Indian capital, New Delhi, the first from a high-ranking U.S. official since Prime Minister Narendra Modi secured a third straight term in India’s general election earlier this month. Sullivan met with his counterpart, Ajit Doval, to discuss progress on the Initiative on Critical Emerging Technologies, which the two countries launched in 2022.
The initiative sets a path for collaboration on semiconductor production and developing artificial intelligence and was critical in sealing a deal that will allow U.S.-based General Electric to partner with India’s Hindustan Aeronautics to produce jet engines in India.
On Monday, the two officials emphasized the need for more collaboration, with a focus on funding innovative research in areas such as semiconductor manufacturing, clean energy and machine learning. They also discussed the possible co-production of land warfare systems, according to a joint statement.
Sullivan also held talks with Modi, in which the two reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering ties between New Delhi and Washington, and he met with Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. On Tuesday, Sullivan was expected to meet with industry and business leaders.
India and the U.S. have grown closer recently , as both countries eye China ’s growing assertiveness in the Indo-Pacific region with caution. Modi was honored with a pomp-filled state visit last year, where he and President Joe Biden called the India-U.S. relationship among the most consequential in the world.
But ties have also been tested after U.S. prosecutors last year accused an Indian government official of orchestrating a plot to murder a Sikh separatist leader in New York.
Sullivan’s visit to New Delhi comes as an Indian national was extradited to the U.S. from the Czech Republic to face charges of murder for hire and conspiracy to commit murder for hire, in relation to the assassination plot, which was foiled by U.S. officials.
The charges were the second recent accusation of complicity by Indian government officials in attempts to kill Sikh separatist figures living in North America.
In September, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said there were credible allegations that the Indian government had links to the assassination in that country of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar . While India rejected Trudeau’s accusations, it has set up an investigation committee to look into the U.S. allegations.
