Schedule a NEXUS interview or update your information

Planned interruption to scheduling of new canadian interviews: scheduling service to resume july 13.

Between July 7 to 13, no new interview appointments at Canadian airport enrolment centres will be visible on the Trusted Traveller Programs (TTP) site as we update the online scheduler. Existing appointments will go ahead as planned. To schedule a new interview, check back on July 13 .

Check the status of your application using the Trusted Traveller Programs ( TTP ) System operated by U.S. Customs Border Protection ( CBP ). If your initial application has been approved, read this page to learn how to schedule an interview at an enrolment centre.

You can also find out how to update your personal information.

Scheduling your interview

You have 3 options to schedule your NEXUS interview.

1. Joint interview at a land enrolment centre in the  U.S.

To schedule a joint interview with Canada Border Services Agency ( CBSA ) and U.S. CBP officers:

  • sign in to the Trusted Traveller Programs System
  • go to the scheduler
  • select a land enrolment centre location in the U.S.
  • select the date and time

2. Split interview at Canadian and U.S. land enrolment centres

You can schedule the first portion of your interview at a land enrolment centre and complete the second portion on the other side of the border. The second portion will automatically be scheduled for the same date.

The following centres are open for scheduled NEXUS split interviews:

  • Lansdowne, Ontario / Alexandria Bay, New York
  • Fort Erie, Ontario (Peace Bridge) / Buffalo, New York (Peace Bridge)
  • Derby Line, Vermont / Stanstead, Quebec

To schedule your split interview at a land enrolment centre:

  • select a land enrolment centre location
  • select the date and time

3. Two-step interview at a participating Canadian airport

Step 1: Your Canadian interview takes place at a participating Canadian airport enrolment centre. These include:

  • Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ)
  • Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG)
  • Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
  • Calgary International Airport (YYC)
  • Edmonton International Airport (YEG)
  • Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL)
  • Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)
  • Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW)

To schedule step 1 of your interview:

  • select an open Canadian enrolment centre location (you will be redirected from the TTP System to the CBSA scheduler)

Step 2: The U.S. interview will occur before your next scheduled flight to the U.S. at a U.S. preclearance location within a Canadian airport .

No appointment is needed but you must:

  • ensure the preclearance site is open by consulting CBP 's hours of service
  • arrive at the airport early
  • tell an officer that you want to complete your NEXUS interview when you enter the U.S. preclearance area

Note: Two-step interviews at a Canadian airport enrolment centre must be completed at any Canadian airport's U.S. preclearance location and cannot be completed at a U.S. airport or land enrolment centre.

How the interview works

During your NEXUS interview, the CBSA and U.S. Customs Border Protection ( CBP ) officers will:

  • review the information provided on your application to make sure it is still valid
  • verify your identity
  • review the original versions of your supporting documents (proof of citizenship, work permits and visas)
  • ensure you meet all eligibility requirements for membership
  • explain the terms and conditions of the NEXUS program
  • take your fingerprints and a picture of your face for your membership card
  • explain how to use your NEXUS membership to cross the border by land, air and boat
  • inform you that you may be subject to an inspection any time you enter Canada or the  U.S.

Note After your interview, check the Trusted Traveller Programs System for updates regarding your application status. Approved applicants can expect to receive their card within 4 to 6 weeks.

Update your email and residential address or your passport information

The CBSA will occasionally need to contact you regarding changes to the NEXUS program. Please ensure that the CBSA always has your current contact information on file.

There are a number of ways to update your personal information depending on the type of information you are updating. You may need to go to an enrolment centre.

Sign in to the TTP System operated by U.S. Customs Border Protection to update your:

  • mailing address
  • permanent resident card information
  • naturalization certificate
  • work visa or study permit
  • purpose of travel (business, tourism or school)

If you have updated your contact information in your TTP dashboard, you must contact the CBSA to have this information updated in our systems.

Passport and citizenship updates as well as a change in residency that could affect your eligibility for NEXUS must be made in person, by visiting an enrolment centre.

Review Canada's privacy statement, United States Privacy Act statement and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation privacy statements before proceeding to the Trusted Traveller Program System.

can I travel abroad after citizenship interview

If you're wondering whether you can travel abroad after your citizenship interview, the answer is: it depends. In the US, for example, there is no restriction on international travel after your citizenship interview. However, you must meet certain requirements, such as maintaining continuous residence and being physically present in the country for a specified period. In Australia, you can travel abroad before your citizenship application is finalised, but you must provide an intended return date or evidence of your return to the country.

What You'll Learn

Extended travel can impact the application process, continuous residence requirements, physical presence requirements, travel restrictions and covid-19, naturalization interview and biometrics appointment.

quartzmountain

Secondly, extended travel can affect your ability to meet the continuous residence and physical presence requirements. To maintain continuous residence, you must not spend more than 180 days abroad during the naturalization period. If your trip exceeds six months, the USCIS will consider your continuous residence requirement disrupted, leading to a denial of your application. Additionally, the USCIS examines the frequency of your travel. To be eligible for naturalization, you must spend at least half of your time in the United States, fulfilling the "physical presence" requirement. Frequent, short trips that result in you spending more than half your time outside the country will make you ineligible for naturalization.

Therefore, it is crucial to carefully plan your travel during the application process. Ensure that you do not miss any appointments and that your trips are not too long or frequent. If you must travel for an extended period, consider asking a relative or friend to monitor your emails for any appointment notifications. Alternatively, you may want to travel after submitting your biometric information, as your presence won't be required soon afterward.

To be eligible for citizenship, applicants must demonstrate that they have resided continuously in the US for at least five years before submitting their application. This period is shortened to three years for applicants who are married to a US citizen.

Continuous residence means that an applicant has maintained a permanent dwelling place within the United States for the specified period of time. Short trips abroad do not typically disrupt the continuous residence requirement, but long absences will. For the purposes of naturalization, a trip abroad that is less than six months will not disrupt continuous residence. A trip of more than six months but less than a year is presumed to break continuous residence, and a trip of 12 months or longer will definitely break it.

Absences of more than six months but less than a year may disrupt an applicant's continuous residence unless the applicant can prove otherwise. To overcome this presumption, applicants will need to provide evidence that they did not disrupt their residence and continued to maintain strong ties in the United States. This may include documentation that the applicant:

  • Did not terminate their employment in the United States or obtain employment while abroad
  • Had immediate family remain in the United States
  • Retained full access to their United States abode

Absences in excess of one year will break an applicant's continuous residence. If an applicant has a break in their continuity of residence, they will need to accrue another four years and one day of continuous residence before applying for naturalization.

There are exceptions to the continuous residence requirement for applicants working abroad for:

  • The United States government, including the military
  • Contractors of the United States government
  • A recognised American institution of research
  • A public international organisation
  • An organisation designated under the International Immunities Act
  • A denomination or mission that has a bona fide organisation in the United States for the purposes of performing ministerial or priestly functions or engaging as a clergyman or clergywoman, missionary, brother, nun, or sister

What Happened to the Once-Booming Florida Ot Travel Jobs?

To be eligible for US citizenship, applicants must meet the "continuous residence" and "physical presence" requirements. These are separate but complementary criteria, both serving to demonstrate an applicant's attachment to the United States.

Continuous Residence

To satisfy the continuous residence requirement, applicants must show that they have:

  • Resided continuously in the US for five years before applying, or
  • Resided continuously in the US for three years if they are qualified spouses of US citizens.

"Continuous residence" means that the applicant has maintained residence within the United States for the required period of time. Extended absences from the US may disrupt an applicant's continuous residence.

Absences of more than six months but less than one year may disrupt an applicant's continuous residence unless the applicant can prove otherwise. Absences of one year or more will definitely disrupt an applicant's continuous residence.

Physical Presence

Physical presence means that the applicant has been physically present in the US for a specified period of time over the previous five years. Generally, applicants must have 30 months of physical presence in the US to be eligible for naturalized citizenship. However, this requirement is reduced to 18 months of physical presence if applying based on marriage to a US citizen.

Physical presence is a cumulative requirement. Each day that an individual is outside the United States counts towards this requirement. For example, an individual who took a 30-day trip and five 1-day trips would have been absent for a total of 35 days.

  • A denomination or mission that has a bona fide organisation in the United States for the purposes of performing ministerial or priestly functions or engaging as a clergyman or clergywoman, missionary, brother, nun, or sister.

Travel After Citizenship Interview

There is no restriction on international travel after a citizenship interview. However, it is important to consider any COVID-19 restrictions, as many states require a quarantine period for travellers. The USCIS will not permit applicants to enter its offices for an interview or oath ceremony if they have recently travelled.

To summarise, applicants for US citizenship must meet both the continuous residence and physical presence requirements, demonstrating their attachment to the United States.

Getting to the Stage: Does America's Got Talent Cover Travel Expenses?

As of June 25, 2021, the New York State Travel Advisory is no longer in effect, and travelers arriving in New York are no longer required to submit traveler health forms. However, the CDC recommends that all travelers, domestic and international, continue to follow CDC travel requirements.

The CDC has implemented measures to prevent the spread of contagious diseases during travel, such as COVID-19. They use a "Do Not Board" list to prevent travelers from boarding commercial airplanes if they are known or suspected to have a contagious disease. Sick travelers are also placed on a "Lookout" list to detect them if they attempt to enter the United States by land or sea. These lists are typically reviewed every two weeks, and individuals are removed once they are confirmed to be no longer contagious.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the CDC recommends getting up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccines before traveling and taking other precautions such as wearing a mask in crowded or poorly ventilated areas, including on public transportation. If you have recently been exposed to someone with COVID-19, consider taking additional precautions such as improving ventilation, spending more time outdoors, and avoiding sick people.

If you have a weakened immune system or are at increased risk of severe disease, it is advised to consult a healthcare professional before traveling. Additionally, consider getting travel insurance in case you need medical care abroad. If you develop COVID-19 symptoms before, during, or after travel, consider getting tested and follow local public health recommendations.

Exploring the Possibility: Traveling to Canada on an F1 Visa OPT

The naturalization process is how a person becomes a U.S. citizen. It involves several steps, including submitting an application, attending a biometrics appointment, and attending a citizenship interview and exam.

Biometrics Appointment

After your application has been accepted, you will receive an appointment notice if biometrics are required. This notice will include the date, time, and location of the appointment. At the appointment, your fingerprints, photograph, and signature will be collected. These biometrics allow the USCIS to confirm your identity and run background and security checks.

You must bring the following documents to your biometrics appointment:

  • Appointment notice (Form I-797C, Notice of Action)
  • Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551)
  • A second form of identification (e.g., driver's license, passport, or state identification card) with your photograph on it

Naturalization Interview and Exam

The citizenship interview usually takes place about eight months after the USCIS receives your application. You will receive a letter with the date and location of your interview, as well as a list of documents to bring. The interview involves a USCIS officer asking questions about your application and background. You will also take an English and civics test unless you qualify for an exemption or waiver.

The English test has three components: reading, writing, and speaking. The civics test covers important U.S. history and government topics. It is important to prepare for both components of the exam to avoid retakes.

You must bring the following documents to your naturalization interview:

  • Interview appointment notice
  • Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card
  • State-issued identification (e.g., driver's license)
  • All valid and expired passports and travel documents issued to you that document your absences from the United States since becoming a permanent resident

Affordable Ways to Travel from London to Paris

Frequently asked questions.

Yes, you can travel abroad after your citizenship interview. However, there are some important considerations to keep in mind. For instance, if you are applying for US citizenship, you must maintain a continuous residence in the US during the application process.

Extended travel during the application process can impact appointment timing and the overall process. It is crucial to attend the naturalization interview, biometrics appointment, and oath ceremony.

Continuous residence and physical presence requirements are interrelated but distinct. Continuous residence refers to the requirement that applicants must demonstrate they have resided in the country for a specified period before submitting their application. Physical presence, meanwhile, refers to the requirement that applicants spend at least half of their time in the country.

There are no restrictions on international travel after the citizenship interview. However, it is important to consider any COVID-19 restrictions. Many countries currently require a quarantine period for incoming travellers.

There are three key appointments that must be attended: the naturalization interview, the biometrics appointment, and the oath ceremony.

In a world of high-speed living and remote jobs, earning money anywhere is possible. Travel isn’t cheap. It costs a lot of money, and working in an office does not leave much time for leisure. If you are on vacation and have seen all there is to be seen, you may look for something else to pass the time.

Remote jobs don’t have to be boring. In fact, many of them are great options for earning free or discounted travel. You just have to know how to choose which of these travel jobs is right for you.

1. Blogging

Blogging while traveling is a great way to earn some money. Your office is wherever your laptop is, so you are never tied down to one place. This can help you travel the world with just a laptop and a bit of data, which you can always find in local cafes or restaurants . It’s even better if you do travel writing, so you can combine firsthand experience with creative writing that helps others plan their travels.

<p><span>The rise of Mukbang videos, where people eat insane amounts of food while sometimes conversing with the camera, is weirdly intriguing to many and simultaneously perplexing. While it attracts massive audiences, the fascination with watching someone devour excessive quantities of food remains a mystery. Moreover, this trend raises concerns about promoting unhealthy eating habits and overindulgence.</span></p>

2. Vlogging

Similar to blogging, video blogging, also called “ vlogging ,” is a visual form of content. You can write blogs for your website but also work as a freelancer for other people’s websites. When it comes to vlogging, however, people usually vlog for their own channels. It takes more time to succeed but can also be more rewarding monetarily. All you need is a smartphone with a nice camera, or if you want to be fancy, a laptop with some video editing software like Adobe PremierePro or DaVinci Resolve.

<p>Interestingly, it seems like millennials have a better understanding of technology. Gen Z grew up with tech, but millennials have more experience with the inner workings, like troubleshooting a computer or building an HTML code. I would think the opposite would be true, but tech has become too easy for Gen Z in some ways.</p>

3. Video Commercials

This one is both fun and rewarding. If you have a smartphone with a decent camera and invest in an excellent DJI drone, you can earn some nice money on your travels. Combine this with an investment in a decent laptop and a video editing course, and you have a recipe for success. When I was on vacation in Corfu , I discovered an opportunity with their beautiful beachfront Tavernas. I packed my drone, visited a few of them on foot, and offered them my services. I scored two jobs for filming a video ad and one logo redesign job, which made me a nice profit for less than a full day of work.

4. Singing and Playing an Instrument

Singing or playing an instrument is another excellent way to earn some surprisingly good money. If you are a good singer and can play an instrument, you can always play in the city center or other popular spots. Many great talents have been discovered performing in public this way. You can also offer your skills to local restaurants or lounges if they are in need of live music or other entertainment.

<p>If you know how to cut hair, another great way to earn money is to offer free haircuts and keep profits from their tips if they decide to give you one. You only need hair clippers for this one, so you can be flexible and earn well in countries where haircuts are expensive. <em>Pro tip</em>: You can combine this with vlogging and use this as your content on your vlog to increase exposure.</p>

<p><span>In a tabloid or on a gossip website, if a celebrity looks to be posing in a staged photo, they most certainly are. Stars view it as a cooperative effort that benefits all parties, and fans frequently aren’t aware that the “candid” photos were expertly staged before being made public.</span></p>

6. Exposure for Businesses

This travel job is for those with a well-developed online business. If you already have a travel blog , you can always ask restaurant owners, bar owners, hotels, and others who provide services in tourism if they would like to collaborate on a promotion on your website. The business will get exposure to your audience, and you can negotiate payment or exchanges for that promotion, like a one-night hotel stay or a free meal.

<p>This unique locale lets guests taste wine from three family-owned micro-wineries: Blacksmith Cellars, Sunset Cellars, and King Andrew Vineyard. Staff at the tasting room are wine producers and grape growers, providing expert knowledge on the local wines and the Suisun Valley wine region. The tasting list changes weekly. And guess what — you can bring picnics or snacks (but no outside drinks). Stop by La Barista Espresso for deli sandwiches on your way to the <a href="https://suisunvalleywinecoop.com/" rel="nofollow noopener">Suisun Valley Wine Co-op</a>.</p><ul> <li><strong>Blacksmith Cellars:</strong> Founded in 2003, winemaker Matt Smith crafts complex wines, distinctive varietal-driven and blended wines.</li> <li><strong>Sunset Cellars:</strong> Starting in 1997 in the garage of the Inner Sunset neighborhood in <a href="https://wealthofgeeks.com/kid-friendly-things-to-do-in-san-francisco/">San Francisco</a>, Sunset Cellars has a minimalist winemaking style and respects the grower’s efforts in the vineyards.</li> <li><strong>King Andrew Vineyard:</strong> After growing grapes in their own vineyard, Roger King and his wife Carol brought their bottled wine from small lot production to the winery. The fresh and vibrant wines are bottled with limited intervention.</li> </ul><p>Reservations are not required, but they are recommended.</p>

7. Bartending

8. Temporary Tattoos or Hair Styling

Unlike the classic tattoo industry, where laws and regulations can tie up employment approval, temporary tattoos can be done anytime, anywhere, and do not fall under any laws and regulations. There is a low risk of infection with temporary tattoos or paints, unlike classic tattoos that are created by piercing the skin. Hair braiding or wrapping is popular at beach destinations and can also be done anytime, anywhere.

9. Working on a Cruise Ship

Working on a cruise ship is more permanent, but it still fits within the scope of travel jobs. There are numerous jobs that you can do on a cruise ship, and each of those offers some nice wages. Understandably, a captain makes much more than a cabin steward, but all employees receive benefits and gratuity. You can use the time between shifts to discover beautiful cities wherever you stop.

<p>Discussions about places to visit in Montenegro tend to begin with Kotor, and it is easy to see why. Kotor packs plenty into its relatively small borders, with a proud maritime history allied to modern cafes, restaurants, and bars, plus some of the most alluring churches in this part of the world. Stop for a romantic courtyard lunch at Pržun before taking the arduous walk up to the fortress walls, where the ultimate view of the Bay of Kotor awaits.</p>
