OSAKA SKY VISTA is a double-decker, open-roof bus that allows you to fully enjoy the highlights of Osaka on a 60-minute ride. You can select from the Umeda Route or the Namba Route. You can't hop on or hop off this bus once it is en route, but you can see some great sights such as Dotonbori , Osaka Castle , and beautiful illuminations from the dynamic open-top bus while enjoying the closeness of the roadside trees and the feel of the breeze.

You'll find the departure and arrival point conveniently located at the JR Osaka Station Expressway Bus Terminal. When it comes to securing your tickets, you have two options: you can book them online (please note that foreign language support is currently unavailable), or you can opt for on-the-day ticket purchase (with English support readily available). On the Umeda Route, you'll have the opportunity to admire the magnificent Osaka Castle tower and the blossoming cherry trees of the Mint Bureau in spring . Meanwhile, the Namba Route offers a unique perspective of Osaka's diverse streets, including the bustling Dotonbori and historic Nippombashi, all while traveling along Midosuji, the city's main thoroughfare. Both routes have a duration of approximately 60 minutes, making them an excellent choice for making the most of your free time and getting a glimpse of Osaka's highlights before embarking on your main sightseeing adventure in the city!

However, as the bus guide will only conduct the tour in Japanese, you will be given a multilingual translation guide that uses GPS when you board (available in English, Chinese, Korean). There is also free Wi-Fi, and large bags and suitcases are permitted, so it is very popular with foreign tourists!

When you take the special night-view ride, available from early November to December, you will find yourself passing through the beautiful lights of the Midosuji Illumination ! In the spring , the Umeda Route offers a great view of the cherry blossoms of the Japan Mint and Sakuranomiya Park . From the Namba Route, you can even enjoy the neon lights of Dotonbori at night.

The Osaka Wonder Loop Bus is a looper that connects 14 sightseeing attractions, including Osaka Castle , Dotonbori , and Shinsaibashi . It is the only bus in Osaka that allows you to get on and off at any stop, as often as you like, and it runs daily from 9:00AM to 8:09PM. The open-top roof of the bus offers a powerful feeling of freedom that you would not experience riding any other ordinary bus!

No worries on rainy days!

Buses run from Umeda Sky Building in the northern area to Abeno Harukas in the south, stopping at 14 different attractions centered around Namba Parks . In addition to open-top buses, there are comfortable, covered buses with air conditioning in the summer and heating in winter . In the summer , cooling packs and fans are distributed and chilled mineral water is sold. In winter , blankets and heat packs are distributed, and there is even a bench coat rental service for free!

There is no restroom on the bus, please go to the restroom before you get on the bus. Please understand that this is NOT a hop-on,hop-off tour, you will only see the sights from the bus.

It is located on Nakanoshima facing Midosuji. The current building is the 4th generation, and the stained glass and exterior used in the former city hall are reused in the citizen's lobby inside the city hall.

The old building was constructed in 1903 during the Meiji era. The building is eye-catching with its green dome-shaped roof and brick and stone architectural style.

Drive along the main street of Osaka. This north-south corridor serves as the backbone of this lively city and is lined with lovely gingko trees.

Check out Dotombori's streets aligned with massive signs! It's also the home to some of the most iconic sights and locations of the city!

One of Japan's leading electronics retail districts.

Tsutenkaku is the landmark tower of the Shinsekai area. On the uppermost floor, there is a statue of 'Biriken,' whose feet people pat for good luck.

The tallest building in Japan at 60 stories (300 m) high, where you can get a breathtaking view from the observation deck. *Guests may leave the tour here if they wish.

Shitennoji is the first state temple in Japan, established by Prince Shotoku in 593 AD.

You can see a town filled with emotion, where many temples and row houses remain.

It is a skyscraper that includes the Festival Hall, commercial facilities such as the Festival Plaza, and offices.

This towering skyscraper is the landmark of Umeda. The top floor boasts an observatory with great views of the city.

Opened in 2013 on the north side of JR Osaka Station, it is a massive complex that houses fashion, general goods, cafes, restaurants, and a hotel that provides world-class services.

• Please be sure to protect yourself against hot and cold weather.Though we give you cooling gel sheets in summertime, we recommend that you prepare the protection yourselves, for the double-decker has no roof. Use of parasols is prohibited for safety reasons.

This shrine, formally called Tsyunoten Shrine, is the site of a famous play, and is popularly called by the name of the heroine of that tale.

Famous not just for being a government building, this area is known as Cherry Blossom Passage for the many blooming trees.

This is a comprehensive history museum introducing the city of Osaka. The building was designed by the same architect, Caesar Pelli, who also worked on Abeno Harukas.

During the Edo Period, this area served as a port for those coming from Kyoto. It was named after the 8 inns that lined the area, a welcome sight for travelers. *Guests may leave the tour here if they wish

Overall rating

The trip was a good introduction to Osaka. The trip was an hour long which we found to be the right length of time to be on a bus tour with three teens. The English "audio-guide" was okay but it would have been better ... if we had been able to go back track or fast forward forward the tape 15 seconds or so at a time, so as to get in sync with what we were seeing out the window. This feature seemed to be unavailable. Also, I found the head phones didn't stay in my ears well, so it may be a good idea for future tourists to bring along their own head phones to plug into the audio set. The bus has glass sides which meant we were nice and sheltered. It is a good idea to bring a hat and something to drape over one's arms as the sun can get pretty hot through the glass. Also, perhaps the place where one catches the bus could be made a little bit clearer. We ended up waiting by the spot where the brochures were, but in fact this was not where the bus stopped. None the less, we were able to see the bus stop a a couple of stops along the bus platform.

This trip was brief but took in some major locations in a busy city where others ways would easily tire the most energetic traveller. A bit longer, and include Kobe would be great!

Review on Double Decker Bus Tour of Osaka's Best Sights

I must say that I enjoyed the double bus tour with my family and friends. The attendant/tour guide was very accommodating. The tour is very organised having an audiophone for English translation of what to see and expect ... around Osaka. The bus stopped at every tourist spot to give us a good view of the attraction. What the tour had failed, I guess, was to allow its passengers to tour around/inside each attraction for 15 mins or so. This will give us better appreciation of Osaka's best sights than having to see it from afar. I have been having a hard time taking quality pictures as we are not allowed to stand up (Window glasses of the bus can be quite a distraction from the photos). I would appreciate it more if the tour guide can give us a deeper explanation on each attraction. While I recognise all the effort of the bus tour, I must say that I enjoyed it though but not as much as I expected. Cheers!

How to travel from Tokyo to Osaka

Tokyo is a city that has always been bustling with people that offer a blend of advanced modern technologies and unique culture. There are a lot of travelers who say that visiting Tokyo only is not enough if you’re already in Japan. You need to visit the other tourism cities such as Kyoto, Hokkaido, and Osaka. 1. Shinkansen (Bullet Train)

The infamous shinkansen, which is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan, and is said to be one of the fastest in the world. Famous not only for its speeds, but also for its efficiency and safety that connected distant regions of Japan in a flash.

As for the fastest shinkansen that you need to take to go from Tokyo to Osaka is the Nozomi Shinkansen with only 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach Osaka. You don’t need to worry about these exceptional trains, because they are known for offering cleanliness, comfort and efficiency.

Because Shinkansen is one of the busiest trains in Japan, it is recommended for you to buy the ticket and reserve the ticket in advance, especially during peak season. But if you’re on a tight budget, you can also take the unreserved seat in the train.

2. Regular Train

While Shinkansen is the fastest way to get to Osaka, but Regular Trains are another option for those of you who are conscious of their budget. But again it will take longer travel time as well, for around 8 to 10 hours, depending on the traffic conditions and the specific routes. Many of the Highbus are offering comfortable reclining seats, toilets, Wi-fi and any basic amenities, even a luxury such as personal TVs and charging ports where you do not need to worry about running out of battery during your travel.

One of the most favorite options for people who are budget conscious but still want to have a comfortable journey from Tokyo to Osaka. JR Bus Kanto

JR Bus Kanto is dedicated for travelers who are looking for relaxation, making it a perfect choice for those of you who want to get some rest on the way to Osaka. There are two options of seats that they provide for you, from the standard seats to wider seats where you can get extra legroom to move around.

The most popular departures from Tokyo to Osaka are scheduled during nightimes, where you can sleep throughout your way to Osaka, and once you wake up, you have arrived in Osaka. Besides, it also saves you quite a lot of money from staying in a hotel.

4. Domestic Flights

The fastest way to get to Osaka from Tokyo in only 1 hour, but in exchange it will take more cost from your wallet. But it is a great choice if you are either in a hurry or don't want to waste your time too much on the way.

There are numerous Airlines that are available to send you from Tokyo to Osaka, from the cheapest one which is Jetstar Japan, Peach Airline, All Nippon Airways, and last but not least which is the most luxurious is the Japan Airlines.

In Tokyo, there is two main airport that serves flight from Tokyo, which is Haneda Airport (HND) and Narita International Airport (NRT), While in Osaka there is two airport that still actively serves travelers which is Kansai International Airport (KIX) and Itami Airport (ITM) which is a lot more closer to the city center.

Another option for those of you who prefer to have more free-travel where you can decide to stop and visit one place to another along the way based on your will. There are numerous ways for you to rent some car in Tokyo, and Traveloka might be able to help you with that.

We prebooked the Alcatraz tour before leaving home because we heard it could sell out. Our tour time was 12noon so we left the hotel about 1030am. We rode the MUNI bus to Fisherman's Wharf and got off at Pier 19. From there we met the nicest tour guide that directed us to either walk 20 mins to Pier 35 or catch the trolley. The historic trolley was coming to us in about 10 mins. We got on and got to pier 35 with tickets in hand. They were boarding the ferry around 1115am for an 1130 departure. We were early. The ferry took off at noon and it was a nice breezy day on the water. We got to Alcatraz and they let us know to check the departure times on the board. The ferry leaves on time. If you are one minute late, you are 29 mins early for the next one. We had to walk up three levels of ramps to get to the cell blocks in order to get the audio tour. I really enjoyed the audio tour. The sound was great and was narrated in great detail. As you went from cell to cell, the narrator instructed you on where to go and what to look for. Many interesting stories about the inmates, the procedures and even escape attempts. Very good history lesson. The tour was over after an hour and a half but you could continue to explore. We trekked back down the hill and caught the next ferry. They served food and drinks on the ferry if you wished to purchase. It's a short ride with plenty of seating inside and out. Definitely recommend.

After half a dozen visits to San Francisco for work, I finally made it out to 'The Rock'. Well organized tour, from start to finish: the ferry ride, instructions on the way to the first point in the tour. A word of caution: when they say it is a steep walk, THEY MEAN IT! It's still walkable, but being out of shape I needed to stop and catch my breath a time or two. There are four steep slopes, but the walk got easier after the first two. Very educational and eye-opening how the inmates lived back then and probably not much different than today.

This is a strong consideration and almost a must-do if you are visiting San Francisco. I have done this many times and regretfully give them 1 star because they showed no flexibility or willingness to help with an incorrect online order.

When do they plan to modernize and update this tour? They charge so much and provide so little. Old style audio tours with terrible script and no live guides to make it interesting or fun. Crowds on the boat and island are mainly folks from Europe and they are herded around like cattle. They charge so much for this tour I wonder where they divert the money as it certainly isnt used to make this a 21st century tourist event.

A unique experience but there's cooler things to do in San Francisco, especially if your time is limited. I did this tour once as a kid but I had completely forgotten what it was like so I decided to do it again. I definitely remember it being cooler as a kid. But then again, I guess that's a lot of things. Overall it's a very educational experience and if you're into history you're gonna love it, but if you only have a day or two to see San Fran, China Town is definitely cooler than prison.

Sometimes playing tourist in your home city is fun. My friend was in town and wanted to go to Alcatraz. We did the night tour because it was close to Halloween. The night tour added an extra layer of spooky. The infirmary was particularly creepy at night. The audio tour was as good as I remember maybe even better now that I'm a bit older and can appreciate a good interpretive program. I also used to be a Park Ranger and had to design tour programs for historic sites like Alcatraz. The audio tour is well done. They do a good job at creating an immersive experience. There's also an exhibit near where you return your head set about the modern prison system. This was also really well done. The exhibit explores the connection between slavery, race and incarceration in the US. Definitely worth checking out and a great place to wait for your friends who may have gotten lost during the audio tour ;) Alcatraz seems to get better every time I visit. Maybe I'll be back sooner than 10 years this time.

!!!MUST GO IF VISITING SAN FRAN!!! I REALLY enjoyed Alcatraz.The staff were super helpful and nice to guide us through the jail. They were really organized and guided people to the boat with no trouble. I really enjoyed seeing the old cell rooms where you can see prisoners items to keep them busy. I suggest going into every cell you can go in because there are little signs telling about prison life and what they did to keep busy. If you can go check out the garden. Note: the garden is only open till 3pm. The only thing to be aware of is there's A LOT of seagulls and birds swarming around. So if your scared just keep watch and don't look down because there are A LOT!!! There's also a huge family of flies on the boat on the window in the back of the boat that will land on you if you sit next to them. Overall loved the experience and would definitely come back to try the night tours and basement tour (which you have to pay extra and book out easily).

I've been wanting to come for quiet some time. The ferri ride was pretty quick. The audio tour was great. I'm so glad I came it was great experience. Definitely worth my day trip to SF.

I usually do not write reviews but this incident has compelled me to let all the readers know that absolutely do not take this tour! The staff at this place is racist and liars. When I was told to step out of the line because did not have my complete party, I stepped away but they asked me to completely walk out of the premises which I abided by and started walking towards the main gates and heard the operator tell other people "OMG" in a very derogatory tone. I let it go and walked away. When we had our full party we came back to the line and we were told you'll will take the next tour. Which we were ok with too. Another lady just comes to us and asks we used the F word towards the door attendant to which we were surprised and walked her through the entire situation world by word. She then accuses us that May be she said "OMG" because you used the F word. We explained to her that we have a toddler with us and we don't use the F word in front of him and we requested her to stop repeating it as well as our son was listening to the conversation. To that she said oh please I have Indian friends too and they use the cuss words all the time. Which was just unacceptable because she profiled the entire Indian community and made a rude assumption about our nationality or origin. She then said we will have to offer you a refund and deny entry into the cruise because of your behavior. Again what behavior? Her staff was blatantly lying, she just passed racist comments and we were denied entry? At this point we did not even want to go for the cruise anymore so we decided to take the refund and leave. She processed the refund and it was incomplete. She gave us approximately $30 less than the price we paid. When I asked her about it she just got up from the seat and said go take it up with the 3rd party you booked through. Visiting as a family with my 22months old son , all of us excited to see Alcatraz after 5 years in San Francisco and our day was ruined because of 2 liars and racist individuals.

Amazing experience!! We did the behind the scenes! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and took us behind the scenes exclusively which made the experience a special one. Audio portion was pretty cool. Just being there in person was unreal knowing the history behind this notorious prison that made history will forever be a memorable experience we will never forget. The gift shop is awesome too!
