PGA TOUR, ESPN+ Announce Details of Expanded and Extended Coverage Beginning in January

• PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ set to launch January 2022
• Four new streaming feeds more than triples live coverage to more than 4,300 exclusive hours

ESPN+ and PGA TOUR announced details for the inaugural season of PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ , with extended and expanded coverage that more than triples the total coverage – adding more than 3,200 new hours of live streaming available for a total of more than 4,300 exclusive hours. All PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ coverage will be available to ESPN+’s more than 17.1 million subscribers.

In 2022, PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will include live coverage of 35 tournaments – from the TOUR’s Hawaii events in January all the way through the FedExCup Playoffs and into the fall – with at least 28 events having four full days of coverage and four simultaneous live feeds each day.

“The start of the PGA TOUR in 2022 will tee off a new and exciting opportunity for fans to watch the best golfers in the world,” said Burke Magnus, President, Programming and Original Entertainment, ESPN. “The new and expanded PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ is an incredible offering for golf fans – with more than three times the coverage from last season, while also bringing them access to thousands of other sporting events and original programming, all for $6.99 per month.”

With the launch of PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ comes new streaming feeds that will bring expanded coverage of events totaling more than 4,300 exclusive hours. Beginning with The American Express (January 20-23, 2022), PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will offer fans four live feeds for each tournament:

• Main Feed : primary tournament-coverage featuring the best action from across the course;
• Marquee Group : new “marquee group” showcasing every shot from each player in the group;
• Featured Groups : traditional PGA TOUR LIVE coverage of two concurrent featured groups;
• Featured Holes : a combination of par-3s and iconic or pivotal holes.

When network television coverage begins, the four streams will pivot to two featured groups and two featured holes so fans can continue to engage with PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ in addition to the telecast.

There will be more content available to our fans than ever before with an exciting and diverse group of on-air talent delivering the action.”

This expanded, unprecedented coverage, with over-the-top (OTT) streaming and emerging technologies moving to ESPN+, is part of the TOUR’s new nine-year domestic media rights portfolio announced in March 2020 .

The weekly production crew behind PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will increase from approximately 85 people to more than 210, with 16 cameras on the course, and a 15-person talent crew calling the action across the four channels. The expanded talent roster is still being finalized and will include current studio hosts John Swantek, Jonathan Coachman, Lisa Cornwell and Ned Michaels and on-course analysts Christina Kim, Karen Stupples, Mark Immelman, Chantel McCabe, Mark Wilson, Stuart Appleby and Michael Collins.

“We are excited about the growth of PGA TOUR LIVE and the opportunity to reach a larger audience on ESPN+,” said PGA TOUR Vice President and Executive Producer Greg Hopfe. “Four separately produced streams will showcase more action than ever before from top players and fan-favorite holes at each tournament. We look forward to being able to share nearly every shot from golf fans’ favorite players on ESPN+.”

PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will cover both early January Hawaii events – Sentry Tournament of Champions and Sony Open in Hawaii – for the first time with Featured Groups coverage in the mornings, followed by Featured Holes in the afternoons.

The complete four feed PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ offering will begin at The American Express.

PGA TOUR LIVE originally launched in 2015. ESPN+, launched in 2018, has grown to reach 17.1 million subscribers. The combined PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+ will provide significant growth opportunities for PGA TOUR content via ESPN+’s digital reach, innovative platform and young and diverse audiences.

PGA TOUR LIVE will be part of any ESPN+ subscription, at no additional cost, alongside more than 15,000 other live sporting events, acclaimed studio programs, original series and documentaries and a library of other on demand programming.

Golf programming on ESPN+ also includes The Masters (115 hours of live coverage, plus 50 hours of The Masters Films from 1960-2020), The PGA Championship (200 hours of live coverage, plus 30 hours of library and classic programming), as well as the original series America’s Caddie with Michael Collins, which will return in 2022 with new episodes throughout the PGA TOUR season.

The PGA Tour continues this week and after the US Open we head to the Travelers Championship in Connecticut.

As we mentioned it takes place after the US Open, but it's a large event in its own right, with a big purse and impressive player field list.

PGA Tour this week: Travelers Championship

The Travelers Championship starts on Thursday, June 22 and goes to the 25th. The purse for this championship is $20,000,000, which is actually larger than the US Open last weekend which is a Major Championship.

The tournament takes place at the TPC River Highlands course which is just outside Hartford. Golfers attending the tournament include Scottie Scheffler , Matt Fitzpatrick , Jon Rahm , Rory McIlroy , Patrick Cantlay , Viktor Hovland , Xander Schauffele and Max Homa , eight of the ten top golfers in the world, with Schauffele the returning champion.

How to watch the PGA Tour in the US

It's hard to move in the US without bumping your foot on a streaming service that'll air the PGA Tour; that is to say, it's playing on various services.

Thankfully there are lots of streaming services that air the PGA Tour. One of our favorites is  ESPN Plus , which offers multiple feeds of the tournament including featured groups and holes.

Various championships are playing on TV channels: The Golf Channel handles week day coverage of most golf tournaments throughout the year, though ESPN offers Thursday and Friday coverage of The Masters and the PGA Championship. Weekend coverage for all tournaments are either on NBC or CBS and this changes regularly. 

If you have these channels through traditional TV services,  you are good to go. But if not there are several services that come with the Golf Channel, ESPN, NBC and CBS in one easy package.  FuboTV  ($74.99 monthly) and  Hulu with Live TV  ($69.99 monthly)  provide all three channels over the internet. Sling TV, meanwhile, carries the Golf Channel, ESPN and NBC through its various packages (starting at $39.99 monthly). 

CBS and NBC coverage of PGA Tour events are also going to be available to live stream on the networks' associated streaming services,  Paramount Plus  and  Peacock .

How to watch the PGA Tour in the UK

If you live in the UK, there's a simple one-stop shop for all your PGA Tour viewing, and that's going to be Sky Sports.

Various parts of PGA Tour tournaments air on the main Sky Sports channel, as well as Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Channel, but luckily all three of those are included in the same streaming package.

You can see  Sky's bundles here , but your cheapest option is getting  Sky TV , Netflix, Sky Sports and a Sky Stream streaming dongle for £44 monthly, a contract which lasts 18 months.

As we mentioned above, the ESPN option is a great one to go down for PGA Tour golf, but how do you get it? ESPN is jointly owned by Disney, so there's a bundle that lets you get ESPN Plus, Disney Plus and Hulu for a flexible monthly sum of a mere $13.99 - alternatively called the Disney Plus bundle. You can sign up for the great value bundle by  heading to Disney Plus's website here . That means not only will you get sport action with ESPN+, but you will also get Classic Disney Animations, Pixar movies, 31 seasons of The Simpsons, and all the Star Wars and Marvel movies. Then with Hulu you have access to the excellent entertainment library. 

Subscribed to separately, you'd be looking at a cost of $19.88 a month, or $25.97 if you opted for Hulu without ads, making the $13.99 monthly fee ($19.99 without ads) one of the best value streaming offerings out there. Or you can head to the ESPN+ website direct and get a base subscription for just $6.99.

ESPN+ is very easy to watch because you can you watch it on your smart TV, as well as PCs, tablets and via the ESPN Plus app on smartphones. ESPN Plus is now available on Xbox One and PS4 consoles, too. ESPN Plus is also available on Apple TV, Chromecast and the Amazon Fire TV platform. Importantly there is no difference in price between these platforms and you can carry an account over to a different one by signing in.

PGA Tour releases 2022-23 schedule, including major changes to the FedEx Cup

The PGA Tour released its full 47-event schedule for the 2022-23 season, the last wraparound campaign before the tour switches back to a calendar-year-based schedule beginning in 2024.

Notable changes include the BMW Championship moving from Wilmington Country Club in Delaware back to the Chicago area, with Olympia Fields playing host to the second of three FedEx Cup playoff events after staging a fan-less BMW in 2020. Just 70 players will qualify for the first playoff event next season, the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind in Memphis, down from the 125 that have made it to the postseason since the FedEx Cup began in 2007 . These 70 will be fully exempt for the following season, while players outside the top 70 will compete for FedEx Cup points and additional status in a series of fall events.

Fifty players will advance from the FedEx St. Jude to the BMW, with the top 30 qualifying for the season-ending Tour Championship, which wraps on Aug. 27.

The top-50 finishers in the FedEx Cup playoffs—so, those who qualify for the BMW Championship—will be eligible to compete in a series of international events. Details of this international series are expected to be released later this year, but the tour’s release says the limited-field, no-cut events also will be open to the top performers in the fall series.

Both of the first two FedEx Cup playoff events will see their purse increase from $15 million to $20 million, part of widespread increases in prize money payouts for events throughout the upcoming season. The Sentry Tournament of Champions will have a purse of $15 million, up from $8.2 million, and the three player-hosted invitationals—the Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday—as well as the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play will offer $20 million in prize money, all up from $12 million. The FedEx Cup will once again feature a $75 million prize pool, while the Comcast Business top 10 will pay $20 million to the top 10 finishers in the FedEx Cup regular-season standings. The Player Impact Program will include $50 million in total bonuses.

The match play is the only World Golf Championship event on the schedule after the cancellation of the WGC-HSBC Champions event in China.

The season once again begins at the Fortinet Championship (Sept. 15-18) in Napa, which will take place the week before the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow in Charlotte. The CJ Cup, which was held in South Korea from 2017-19 before moving to Las Vegas for 2020 and 2021, moves to Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina. The RSM Classic (Nov. 17-20) will be the last PGA Tour event of 2022, with the season picking up again at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii after New Year's. After two events in Hawaii the tour heads to the west coast for The American Express and the Farmers Insurance Open, which will finish on a Saturday for the second-consecutive year. The following week will see Phoenix play host to both the WM Phoenix Open and the Super Bowl.

The rest of the schedule looks almost identical to that of 2021-22, with notable exceptions including the Rocket Mortgage Classic moving to late June and the 3M Open sliding one week later and serving as the penultimate event of the FedEx Cup regular season.

2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic live stream, where to watch, TV schedule, channel, tee times, golf coverage

The pga tour makes the trip to the motor city as players jostle for playoff positioning.

Full-field events will be the name of the game for the rest of the PGA Tour season with the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic taking center stage as it wraps up this weekend at Detroit Golf Club. Visiting the Donald Ross design for the sixth time, players will look to embark on a sizzling summer stretch as the FedEx Cup Playoffs stand just six tournaments away.

Akshay Bhatia, Cameron Young, Cam Davis and Aaron Rai are among the golfers atop the leaderboard after 54 holes, and all are seeking either the first or one of their first few PGA Tour victories. Young may have found his form at TPC River Highlands last week with a historic 59 that propelled him inside the top 10. A runner-up finisher at this course before, the former PGA Tour Rookie of the Year is still seeking that first career win.

Bhatia is on the precipice of a breakout, it seems, while Davis previously won the Rocket Mortgage Classic in a playoff back in 2021. And then there's Rai, who like Young is seeking his first PGA Tour victory coming off a T19 finish at the U.S. Open earlier this month.

What will go down Sunday as the final round concludes? Make sure you don't miss a second of the action.

How to watch 2024 PGA Travelers Championship: ESPN+ schedule

W hile the Travelers Championship -- the last signature event of the year -- won't feature Rory McIlroy , it will include Scottie Scheffler . The No. 1 golfer in the world seeks his sixth PGA Tour win of the season. The Travelers will be held at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, and will feature a $20 million total purse, including $3.6 million to the winner. Keegan Bradley looks to become the first player to win the Travelers in back-to-back years since Phil Mickelson in 2001-02.

DETROIT -- Once again, some of the top golfers on the PGA Tour prepare to show their stuff in the shadows of the Motor City, as players look to win the big money at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

While big names like Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are not going to be in the field this weekend, there are still a handful of talented players in Detroit.

Tom Kim is currently the odds-on favorite heading into Thursday. The South Korean golfer gave Scheffler a run for his money at the Travelers Championship last week, ultimately losing in a playoff. If he can build off last weekend’s performance, there is an opportunity to win his fourth championship on the tour.

Canadian Cameron Young is going to be in the running to win the RMC. While he did not finish in the top five in Connecticut last weekend, he played much better than he had in recent weeks, giving him some confidence heading into Detroit.

Defending champion Rickie Fowler is not a huge favorite in winning this tournament. However, he was not on many people’s radar before winning in Detroit in 2023. He looks to become the first-ever back-to-back winner at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

How to watch 2024 PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic: ESPN+ schedule

Founded in 2019, the PGA Tour's Rocket Mortgage Classic will be held at Detroit Golf Club this weekend. The tournament will feature a $9.2 million total purse, including $1.6 million to the winner. 2023 winner Rickie Fowler looks to defend his title at this year's event.

It's July, which means it's time for Wimbledon -- the only tennis Grand Slam event played on grass. With all the pomp and circumstance England has to offer, not to mention mandatory tennis whites, Wimbledon 2024 features the tennis world's best.

How and when to watch Wimbledon 2024

Wimbledon is scheduled to be played from July 1, 2024 through July 14, 2024, the last Grand Slam of the year before the Paris Summer Olympics. Singles competition begins on Day 1, while doubles competition begins on Day 3.

The Tennis Channel will also offer nightly coverage of Wimbledon starting at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT) most evenings, and every match will be available on ESPN+ . Obituary Process:

Once your submission is completed, we will fax or email a proof for review prior to publication in the newspaper. This proof includes price and days the notice is scheduled to appear.

Please review the proof carefully. We must be notified of errors or changes before the notice appears in the Pioneer Press based on each day’s deadlines.

After publication, we will not be responsible for errors that may occur after final proofing.

All obituaries appear on TwinCities.com with a permanent online guestbook presence. If you wish to have the online presence removed, you can contact us to remove the guestbook online. Changes to an online obituary can be handled through the obituary desk. Call us with further questions.

Payment Procedure:

Pre-payment is required for all obituary notices prior to publication by the deadline specified below in our deadline schedule. Please call 651-228-5263 with your payment information after you have received the proof and approved its contents.

Credit Card: Payment accepted by phone only due to PCI (Payment Card Industry) regulations

EFT: Check by phone. Please provide your routing number and account number.

Cash: Accepted at our FRONT COUNTER Monday – Friday from 8:00AM – 3:30PM

• The minimum charge is $162 for the first 10 lines.
• Every line after the first 10 is $12.20.
• If the ad is under 10 lines it will be charged the minimum rate of $162.
• On a second run date, the lines are $8.20 per line, starting w/ the first line.
• For example: if first run date was 20 lines the cost would be $164.
• Each photo published is $125 per day.
• For example: 2 photos in the paper on 2 days would be 4 photo charges at $500.

There have also been commitments from fan favorites like Sam Burns, a member of the Ryder Cup last year, Sahith Theegala, an emerging presence in the sport, and Joel Dahmen, a household name largely because the Netflix series “Full Swing” showcased his big personality on screen.

As excited as tournament director Mike Welch is about the field so far, he’s still hopeful to attract a few more big names to TPC Twin Cities with play set to take place from July 25-28. He mentioned players such as Patrick Cantlay, Will Zalatoris and Adam Scott as possibilities.

“We’ve got a few weeks,” Welch said. “We’re just going to keep on them until they say they’re in.”

No doubt the biggest thing working against the 3M Open at this point is where it falls in the PGA Tour schedule. It’s sandwiched between the Open Championship, which will take place at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland, and the Olympics, which will take place at Le Golf National in France. The travel will likely be enough to deter some players.

There’s a chance the 3M Open could attract a number of late additions based how the standings look when play rolls around. On the PGA Tour, the top 70 players in the standings qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs, meaning some players might need extra points to secure their spot.

You never know, maybe somebody like Jordan Spieth will be on edge by then, or maybe somebody like Rickie Fowler could be looking to add to his total.

“There are some interesting names in there,” Welch said. “Our hope is that they give us a look.”

Notably, players have until 4 p.m. on July 19 to commit to the 3M Open, and they can withdraw at any time.

There will be a concert on the grounds of TPC Twin Cities on July 27 with country music star Chris Lane performing. The show will start shortly after play wraps up.

'Detroit Really Felt Like Home': Jake Bates Felt Strong Support

New Detroit Lions kicker Jake Bates had the unique experience of quickly becoming a fan-favorite of a fanbase before actually joining the team.

A sensation in the UFL, Bates endeared himself to the Lions ' fanbase throughout his stint with the Michigan Panthers. Because the Panthers played their home games at Ford Field, there was plenty of overlap between fans of the UFL squad and Lions supporters.

As a result, when Bates went viral for nailing multiple kicks from 60-plus yards out, Lions fans clamored for leadership to add him to the kicker competition. He felt the love from the supporters, and signed with the team at the end of the UFL campaign.

"Detroit really felt like home, even outside of all that stuff. It just felt good," said Bates. "And, there's no real feeling, there's no real words to describe what that feeling is. It just felt good there. The people there were awesome. Obviously, can't let yourself listen to that too much, because you never know. But no, it was awesome. My dad and my my brothers and my mom, they would come to games and see the fans or the fans online. Them and my friends had a little bit more fun with all that stuff than I did. I definitely felt the love, and I'm super, super excited to be in such a football-heavy city that loves the Lions and supports the Lions. And, I just can't wait to be a part of it."

Bates finished the year 21-of-28 on field-goal attempts, with three makes of over 60 yards. One of those makes was a game-winning 64-yard boot in the Panthers' season opener, which doubled as his first field-goal attempt.

Because the Lions have struggled to find stability at the kicking position following the departure of Matt Prater, fans clamored to bring Bates into the fold after witnessing his leg strength.

The excitement generated by his arrival has only fed into the palpable buzz surrounding the direction of the organization heading into the 2024 campaign.

"I think just when you walk into the building, just the feel of it, the culture that the coaching staff has brought in and just the buzz around the city, the excitement for the team," Bates explained. "I mean, there's so many things, so many intangible things that I think go into it with the feeling around the Lions right now.

"Obviously, last season was awesome for them," Bates commented further. "And, I just can't wait to get up there and help in any way I can to hopefully do well for this city and have a lot of fun doing it with a really good team."

Represented by veteran agent Marty Magid of MRM Sports, several factors, including overall comfort, guided his decision to join Detroit's roster .

"There was a lot of things that that went into it," said Bates. "There's a whole whole thing that after everything that happened, and we went through that whole process. My agent and I sat down, and he was super helpful through everything. There's just, there's a bunch of different things, and every situation is different. And so, that's just where we felt most most at home, most comfortable. And, that's where, ultimately, we decided to go, and and there is no turning back. I'm super excited for it."

Bates reportedly also had interest from the Packers and Commanders after the Panthers' season concluded.

With the Lions, Bates will join a wide-open kicking competition with incumbent Michael Badgley, who has spent parts of the last two years as the team's kicker . Overall, Badgley has made 27-of-31 attempts in a Lions uniform.
