Sardinia & Corsica Cultural Walking Tour

When was the last time you broke bread with a shepherd? Were you sitting at a stone table in his garden, a Sardinian breeze rustling the leaves, with a corkwood plate of his homemade specialties? It's a simple and simply remarkable event, just one of many we'll arrange for you in this amazing week of Mediterranean adventure. Travel between the isles of Sardinia and Corsica and you'll only venture eight miles…but they're worlds apart. Corsica—part of France, but defiantly non-French—is blanketed in fragrant herbs and dotted with quaint villages. Sardinia seeks adventure. Travel through the island and see how it's more rustic, mysterious; with a few thousand years of Phoenician, Spanish and Italian blood in its veins. Together, these two gorgeous islands are some of the least-touristed spots in Europe. When you leave behind the yacht-studded harbors for the mountains, pastures and vineyards of the interior, you have the rarest of privileges—to see and experience countryside and culture that seem to have stood still in time.

• Wander the quiet, pedestrian-only streets of Alghero, then enjoy an authentic cooking class with locally-caught seafood

• Take a light walk to a castle, perched on a promontory overlooking Castelsardo

• Stroll in chestnut forests and taste the olive oil at a historic press

• After picking up lunch in Sartene, walk in a nature reserve and explore fascinating 5,000-year-old carved stone monoliths.

• Ferry to Porto Cervo on Sardinia's Costa Smeralda

• Visit with a local baker and learn about regional cuisine

• Explore an archeological site with Europe's oldest stone towers

• Relax over lunch with a local shepherd in his garden

introductory to moderate

This tour is graded Easy – Moderate. The terrain is generally easy being on tracks and good footpaths with walking times of between 3 and 7 hours per day. The longest day is mainly downhill on tracks and back roads. There is a little flexibility on a few days to adjust the distance walked. Extra attention is required to follow a section of the path on Day 2 & Day 6. It should be noted that some of the paths can get overgrown in places in the spring as the grasses grow quickly at this time and we would recommend at least carrying long trousers, or zip off trousers. The walks are designed to avoid road walking as much as possible.

Our trip begins in the Arrivals Hall at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) at 5.15 pm. If you would like to join the complimentary airport transfer today, the latest time your flight can arrive is 4.45 pm. We will travel together as a group to our base for the next 4 nights, the welcoming, family-run Agriturismo Canales, a journey of around an hour and 15 minutes.

Nanni and Lina's farm-stay occupies a tranquil setting overlooking Lake Cedrino, with views to the mountains beyond. The agriturismo's small restaurant serves up tasty cuisine including typical Sardinian fare such as hearty pasta dishes made with the local Gnocchetti and Seada, a sweet semolina fritter flavoured with pecorino cheese, lemon and honey.

Please Note: SAR 15th September departure spends the first 4 nights at an alternative property Hotel il Querceto.

Meals provided: dinner.

We begin our day with a short drive into the Lanaittu Valley to the Sa Oche Refuge where our walk starts. We set out from Sa Oche, initially along a wide gravel road which later narrows to a rocky footpath, as we climb up to the ancient site of the village of Tiscali, located in a depression at the top of the mountain of the same name. Invisible until you climb down into the depression, it's thought the village was built here for defensive reasons. A number of nuraghe dating back to the first millennium BC can be seen. The Nuragic civilization of Sardinia lasted from the 1800 BC (Bronze Age) to the 2nd century BC, with its name deriving from the nuraghe, a fortress-tower construction, the remains of which now dot the Sardinian landscape. The cult of water was an important element of the Nuragic religion and many well-temples and sacred springs were constructed. In the centre of the site a wide window in the rock opens out onto the Lanaittu valley below. We descend to Sa Oche by a different route, taking us through a narrow gorge with lush vegetation where, if we are lucky, we could spot wild boar or a family of wild mouflon sheep.

Today's Moderate grade 9.5 kilometre/5.9 mile walk is expected to take around 4 hours with a total ascent and descent of 580 metres/1902 feet.

Meals Provided: Breakfast & Lunch

Today's walk will take us to one the most spectacular viewpoints in Sardinia, offering panoramic views over the whole of the Supramonte Mountains and beyond. The Supramonte range is characterised by its rugged karst (limestone) topography from which rivers have carved out deep canyons and ravines.

After driving to the start point of our walk near the Hotel Monte Maccione, we climb up onto the barren limestone plateau that stretches between the peaks of Monte Corrasi and Punta Sos Nidos. We ascend Monte Corrasi first; at 1463 metres/4800 feet it's the highest peak in the Supramonte. The views from here are simply astounding, reaching from Punta La Marmora (Sardinia's highest peak)) and the Gennargentu Mountains to the west to the Oddoene Valley and the Mediterranean Sea to the east. After enjoying the view, we continue at first downhill and then uphill again to the summit of Punta Sos Nidos (1348 metres/4422 feet) for a great view down into the Valley of Oliena, hundreds of metres below. The final stretch of our trek takes us back to our starting point.

Today's Challenging grade 12 kilometre/7.5 mile walk is expected to take around 7 hours with a total ascent and descent of 1000 metres/3281 feet.

Meals Provided: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Today's walk is in the amazing Gorge of Gorropu, dug out by the forces of the Flumineddu River. After breakfast we drive along one of the island's most panoramic roads, to the trailhead of the path at the Genna Silana Pass at a little over 1000 metres/3281 feet. From here we walk along a steep gravel track leading slowly down to the canyon entrance, passing through the fragrant Mediterranean maquis, coloured by wildflowers and the red fruits of the strawberry trees. On arrival at the gorge, local guides will explain the nature and geology of this amazing canyon after which we set out to walk and explore this wonder of nature on our own. The further we hike into the gorge, the bigger the boulders we have to climb over and the narrower the passages we have to squeeze through, until we reach the point where the base of the gorge is only 5 metres feet wide. From here we make our way to the gorge entrance and follow an easy trail along the river to our pick-up point near a bridge over the river.

Today's Moderate grade 10.5 kilometre/6.5 mile walk is expected to take around 5 hours with a total ascent of 65 metres/213 feet and descent of 800 metres/2624 feet.

We say goodbye to the agriturismo this morning and head for the coast to experience a different side of Sardinia. En route we'll stop at Dorgali, a small agricultural town known for its crafts and ceramics. Travelling on to the coast by public bus (our luggage is transferred by private vehicle), our next 3 nights will be spent at a hotel in the seaside village of Cala Gonone on the Gulf of Orosei. This is a laid back place where life gravitates towards the long seafront promenade with a scattering of bars and restaurants and a gently shelving beach.

The rest of the day is left free. You may choose to take a break from walking to relax on the beach at Cala Gonone or nearby Cala Fuili or catch a boat further along the coast to visit various other remote and beautiful beaches and caves.

Hotel Cala Luna (or similar)

Grade: Comfortable Hotel

Meals Provided: Breakfast

We catch a public bus inland this morning, to the trailhead close to Dorgali. We follow a track that connects Dorgali and Cala Gonone, passing through a short section (less than 200 metres/656 feet) of tunnel blasted through the rock. The tunnel is wide enough for a vehicle to pass through and light enough not to require torches so claustraphobia isn't an issue. The trail then ascends with great views all the way to the top of Monte Bardia (881 metres/2890 feet) from where there's a long and gradual descent to the coast. The trail is rocky and quite steep in parts.

Today's Challenging grade 11 kilometre/6.8 mile walk has a total ascent of 485metres/1591 feet and descent of 960 metres/3149 feet.

We catch a boat south to Cala Sisine this morning and enjoy fabulous coastal views of the limestone cliffs and turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Cala Sisine is an unspoilt sandy beach in a gorgeous cove from where we start our trek along a section of the renowned Selvaggio Blu trail. The Selvaggio Blu (Wild Blue) is a multi-day trek, abseiling and climbing expedition that runs for over 50 kilometres miles along a stretch of Sardinia's remote limestone east coast. But don't worry - the section from Cala Sisine to Cala Gonone that we hike involves only walking! The rocky trail undulates up and down the cliffs from Sisine to another beautiful beach, Cala Luna at 9 kilometres/5.6 miles from where there's an option to return to Cala Gonone by boat. For those wishing to continue, it's another 5.5 kilometres/3.4 miles on to the end of the trek, the beach at Cala Fuili, a 20 minute walk back to our hotel.

Today's Moderate grade 14.5 kilometre/9 mile walk is expected to take approximately 5.5 hours with a total ascent of 845metres/2772feet and descent of 910 metres/2985 feet.

Departing Cala Gonone we drive to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) where we will arrive about at 3.00 pm and this is where the holiday ends. The earliest time you should book a flight to depart today is 5.00 pm. (Please note the SAR 08OCT23 departure only will finish at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) at 9.00 am and the earliest time you should book a flight to depart today is 11.00 am.)

Happiness Promise

There are hundreds of thousands of guides and tour operators around the world. Figuring out who to trust is stressful and hard.

That’s why we started 10Adventures Tours, we’re here to make it easy to find a great guide or tour operator. We handpick the best local guides and tour operators for 10Adventures, working to ensure you have great guides and a great trip.

We know it sucks to show up in a different country and find out the tents are junk, the guide incompetent or the route different from what we thought we were getting.

We want to give our users peace of mind that you’ll have a great trip and offer a guarantee that we will work with you to make it right.

How does this work? Well, if you feel that something about your trip didn’t’ meet your expectations, let us know. We will then work to gather the details and figure out where things went wrong. If something indeed wasn’t as described, or went wrong with your trip, and the problem was within the control of either oursleves, the guide or the tour company, we will then work out a refund with you that’s proportional to the scale of the problem.

Obviously the best way to make a great trip is to tell your local guide or tour operator and give them the chance to fix the solution while you are on your trip. Most things can be solved by telling your guide when the issue develops. If that doesn’t solve it, then email us right away. Please don’t wait to voice your concerns until the trip is over, as it’s much harder to solve issues after the fact.

We work hard to make sure you have a great trip. If something isn’t right, please email  [email protected]  and we will get to work right away.

This walking tour of Sardinia begins in Oliena, an idyllic town with delicious local wine and bread. You’ll ascend atop a local mountain for a birds-eye view of this incredible region all the way to the Supramonte Mountains. You’ll walk through the towering Holm oak forest, run your hands along the massive limestone boulders, and gaze across expansive valleys. The Hiking in Sardinia walking tour then leads to the Scala de Surtana Valley and Monte Tiscali, where the prehistoric Nuraghe village is hidden and waiting for you to explore. Then, you’ll journey into Italy’s deepest gorge with towering white walls. It feels as if you’re deep within the earth before you rise through to trek to the sea. Cruise over the glittering water, dive, swim, kayak, and fish. Make yourself comfortable at the secluded Cala Luna beach, only accessible by boat. Then, the Hiking in Sardinia walking tour follows the coastal trails to Cala Gonone, where you can pack a picnic basket of fine local foods to lay out next to the deep blue of the ocean. The Hiking in Sardinia tour is perfect for any lover of the ocean and nature, and an unforgettable way to experience one of Italy’s most special regions.

Itinerary for Hiking in Sardinia

Arrival in sardinia.

The first day of your walking tour of Sardinia is all for relaxing. You’ll stay in Oliena, an idyllic town with great paths to explore. For dinner, tuck into local carasau bread and Cannonau wine.

Hiking the Monte Corrasi loop

The first adventure of your walking tour of Sardinia starts with a trek up one of the local mountains, where the views are simply perfect. From the peak, you can see all the way over to the Supramonte Mountains and deep valleys. Bring a camera!

Walk to Su Gologone

Today, you’ll trek through the Holm oak forest, which is perfectly quiet and peaceful. It’ll lead you to sheer limestone formations over 800 metres tall. Views of the valleys of Oliena and Guthiddai peek through as you approach a narrow canyon called Laghetto Sorgenti Carsiche Su Gologone, which is 108 metres deep and the vital water supply of Sardinia.

Walk to Tiscali

Start the morning with a transfer to Rio Flumineddu, where you’ll begin a hike along the Scala de Surtana Valley. Climb up to a plateau where two beautiful, recently restored ovili huts hide. Feel free to enter and see the impressive craftsmanship needed to create them. Hike back down the valley wall to make it to the foot of Monte Tiscali. Now you’re headed up! Near the peak, the remains of a prehistoric Nuraghe village are hidden inside a cave. Creep into the round opening, get up close to the remains, and appreciate the eerie silence of the cave. Then, you’ll descend to the River Flumineddu, where you’ll be whisked away to the hotel for the evening.

Explore Gola di Gorropu or Silana

Today, your walk will take you into Italy’s deepest gorge, the Gola di Gorropu. You’ll be surrounded by stark white walls over 350 metres high, and you’ll feel like you’re deep in the belly of the earth- a once in a lifetime experience.

Those who aren’t fans of gorges have the option to hike along the mountain ridge, beginning close to the Silana Pass and travelling to the town of Dorgali. The views of the Gulf of Orosei coast are wonderful, and the Supramonte mountains loom in the distance.

Trek to Cala Gonone

Start the next day of your Sardinia walking tour with a quick transfer to Dorgali, where you’ll stroll the tunnel that connects Dorgali with Cala Gonone. You’ll end up atop Monte Bardia, and then descend into the nearby valleys- although you won’t want to leave the views! To end the day, choose to either go straight to Cala Gonone or make the ascent up Monte Irveri before you relax for the evening.

Cala Luna beach and boat to Cala Gonone

Get ready to soak up the sun! Today, you have a choice between boat trips to the Blue Marina sea cave, a visit to the Nuraghe Mannu site, or diving, kayaking, or fishing.

Alternately, you can walk to Cuccuru su Corvu to the renowned Cala Luna beach, which is delightfully private and perfect for a picnic and a swim. No matter what you choose to do, the day is yours on the sea. Bliss!

Farewell, Cala Gonone!

Have one last breakfast by the sea before packing your bags to head home. Or, book some extra days to keep soaking up the sun.

Walking Tour in Sardinia

Sardinia coast to coast.

This 8-day, 7-night walking tour in Sardinia starts in Cagliari, the Jerusalem of Sardinia, heads east to a delightful coastal hamlet and joins the breath-taking Selvaggio Blu (Wild Blue) trail – the most challenging in the Mediterranean. Selvaggio Blu will give you a heady dose of nature, of scents and colours that will stay in your system for a long time.

Walking tour in Sardinia - coast-to-coast group photo

Our walking tour in Sardinia will follow the Selvaggio Blu walking path where no ropes are needed. Days 3, 4 and 5 will be challenging: 1 night in a Mountain Refuge, 1 night in a tent on the beach with outdoor showers, and activity level 5.

In addition to ‘standard’ walking equipment, you will need to bring: a light backpack, trekking poles, water bottle, sun hat, sunglasses, sun cream, windproof jacket (Sardinia can be very windy!), cagoule, sleeping-bag and a small towel. Wake-up time is around 7:30 am.

Discovering Cagliari and heading east to Santa Maria Navarrese

An elephant on the tower? You’ll have the answer to this by the end of the tour. During a four-hour guided walk around Cagliari, and a visit to the fabulous archaeological museum, you’ll learn about the town’s structure and the mark left by successive civilizations – Roman, Pisan, Aragonese and Piedmontese.

sardinia walking tours

High up in the town in an ancient citadel, Castello, watch flamingos take off from two large ponds. After a tour of Cagliari by Ape, the classic Italian three-wheeler, we will wander through San Benedetto, Europe’s largest covered market, to see and sample the fish, meat, cheese, wine, bread and cakes on offer. After a light lunch in the market, we set off from Cagliari in a private minibus driving through inland Sardinia to the east coast and Santa Maria Navarrese.

The Selvaggio Blu trail – Santa Maria Navarrese to Rifugio Golgo

Santa Maria Navarrese is a fishing village on the east coast in Ogliastra province and is where the trail begins. A guide from Cooperative Goloritzè will lead your group for the three days.

Pietra Longa - walking tour in sardinia

Your coast-to-coast walking tour in Sardinia starts here! Setting off at sunrise, you follow the gorgeous, gentle coastline up to Pietra Longa for a breath-taking view of the faraglioni rock formations and then up to the Us Pigus and Bacu Tenosili gullies. As you ascend, with the tang of the sea all around you, juniper sheepfolds will come into view. During the day, when you reach the Golgo heights, your reward is the incomparable scenery below.

Mobile phone reception is patchy, and no water is available along the trail, so remember to fill your water bottles in S. Maria Navarrese. Days 3, 4 and 5 may be changed around or modified according to sea and weather conditions.

Activity level: 5 (1 km uphill, 400 m downhill)

Walk: 18 km

Midday meal: packed lunch

Dinner: Sardinian specialities at Rifugio Golgo (Golgo mountain refuge)

Night: Rifugio Golgo in double or multi-bed rooms

Golgo to Cala Sisine

You leave the Golgo refuge to visit the Chiesa di San Pietro, standing alone on the Golgo plateau amid ancient olive trees. This modest, late 16 th century church, with its striking whitewashed façade, is flanked by cumbessias – rough, open stone structures that traditionally hosted local festivities and, before that, pilgrims.

sardinia walking tours

You follow Via del Carbone, the road once used to transport coal, and the riverbed of Torrente Codula Sisine to the stunning Cala Sisine bay. You’ll be impressed by the gorges and on reaching Cala Sisine … you’re suddenly facing the sea. A small camping area provides hot water and a safe place to put up your tents. It looks out onto the fine white sand and water in various shades of blue, from palest aqua to dark turquoise. At the southern end, bizarrely shaped limestone formations soar away from the cliffside.

Enjoy the sea breeze as you stroll on the bay’s white sands. Take a breather and lap up the view!

Activity level: 5 (100 m uphill, 480 m downhill)

Dinner: at the night camp

Night: tents (two-person) and camping mattresses provided by the organisation, showers available at the campsite

From Cala Sisine to Cala Luna with transfer to S. Maria Navarrese by boat or jeep

From the campsite, you head for the left slope of Cala Sisine bay to climb back up to the cliff’s edge, glimpsing the sea through juniper bushes. Then Bacu Lopiro – an astonishing natural hole 20 metres in diameter  ̶  you have to take a picture! At Cala Luna (Moon Bay), there’s a beachside café, where you can relax with a drink before returning to S. Maria Navarrese by boat. The 45-minute boat trip is superb: you’ll look back at the whole coast, including the bays you walked across during your Ogliastra experience. If sea conditions do not allow transfer by boat, return by jeep or alternative means will be organised.

Santa Maria Navarrese to Cabras through the town of Ulassai

This is a transfer day (2.5 hrs) from the east coast passing through central Sardinia to the west coast. Our first stop is the Stazione dell’Arte, a converted railway station at Ulassai dedicated to the work of native artist Maria Lai, known for installations such as Sewing up the world and Capturing the wind . Maria’s works were exhibited at the 2017 Venice Biennale.

Then our walking tour in Sardinia continues westwards across central Sardinia up to Cabras in the Gulf of Oristano. The gulf is enclosed to the north by Cape San Marco, on the Sinis Peninsula, and to the south by Cape Frasca and is dotted with massive ponds, including the Stagno di Cabras and Stagno di Mistras. The Stagno di Cabras has a surface area of 2,200 hectares and has been privately owned since 1982. Today the ponds comprise some of the most important wetlands in Europe and have been declared a European Community Interest Zone. The wetlands have another quality: the special intensity of the light.

The Phoenix Path to Sinis Peninsula and Tharros

Learning about and tasting bottarga.

Sinnis Peninsula - Sardinia

We are now on the west coast and start walking again. A local guide will lead us along the Phoenix Path that follows the coast overlooking the Gulf of Oristano to your left and the Cabras Ponds on your right, traversing fish farms and ending at the Sinis Peninsula at Cape San Marco.

On the way back, we will stop at the Tower of San Giovanni. From the 50-metre vantage point you will see, to your right, the ‘live sea’, exposed to the wind, and to your left the ‘dead sea’, protected from the wind – and Tharros, a city founded by the Phoenicians in around 800 AD, on what was then a Roman site. From the tower, the guide will tell you about Tharros. Further inland, the sand dunes give way to Cabras Ponds, a swampy ecosystem among the largest and most flourishing in Europe, and home to the greater flamingo.

We return to Cabras by minibus to visit Cabras Pond at the Pontis Consortium and learn the secret to catching grey mullet and producing bottarga. Bottarga is smoked grey or red roe from mullet, tuna and even swordfish. Sardinia is where bottarga has always been produced, and Cabras is the mecca of mullet bottarga. Even though it’s becoming known in North America, the product is still by far an unknown delight. A tasting concludes the day.

Activity level: 4, almost flat

Walk: 15 km

Midday meal:   pranzo al sacco

Dinner: Mar’e e Pontis Fishery

Night: Acquae Sinis boutique hotel

Sheep-milking competition and visit to the Giants

We start our last day with a visit to the farm of Marcolino, who is a shepherd in Su Prano, a few kilometres from Cabras. Marcolino, a real cultural ambassador for this rural area, will school you in the art of sheep milking. You’ll then take part in a milking competition; the best-performing milkers will receive a medal crafted by a local artist. After all that milking, Marcolino will demonstrate how to make cheese and ricotta. And what better way to end your farm visit than with a cheese and wine tasting? The wine is a v ernaccia di Oristano , a staple in the life and customs of this area, and the whole of Sardinia.

We take you off the beaten track to experience dramatic seascapes, explore breathtaking gorges, and swim from the island's famous white sandy beaches. Bosa's enchanting pastel-colored houses and centuries-old warehouses welcome us as we make our way into the stony spine of the island, where you spend two nights in the verdant oasis of Sul Gologone. Sunsets that bathe distant limestone cliffs a soft golden hue are a memorable feature of our stay here. Sardinia “Coast to Coast” Hiking tour itinerary Request full itinerary

Independent arrival in Olbia and check-in at the Hotel Panorama (or similar) in the historic old town. There are several daily flights to Olbia from Rome Milan, and other European hubs. Take some time this afternoon to explore Olbia’s charming city center. Dinner is on your own tonight to allow for a flexible and relaxed start to the trip.  Hotel included. Dinner is not included.

Meet your guide(s) this morning at 8:00 a.m. for a 1-hour drive to Capo Testa: The Valley of the Moon. This little valley has impressive granite rocks shaped by the force of the weather over thousands of years. We hike through hidden coves where crystal-clear turquoise water is in vivid contrast to the surrounding golden-colored rocks and the deep green of the dense Mediterranean scrub. We transfer to the Medieval hamlet of Castelsardo for lunch. From there, we go to the lovely seaside town of Alghero. Ancient walls ring the town, and rusty canons still point out to sea. The town center is cobblestoned and a maze of narrow lanes connecting gracious piazzas. Dinner in our favorite local trattoria, where our welcoming hosts enthusiastically treat us to their seafood specialties, accompanied by a delicious Sardinian Vermentino di Gallura. The Hike: 5.2 km/3.2 mls. 252 metes/827 ft elevation gain and loss. Duration: about three hours. This hike has some boulders along the path that we negotiate, so it takes longer than usual to cover the distance. Overnight Alghero at the 4-star Hotel Catalunya (or similar). Hotel, breakfast, and dinner included.

We head up the coast this morning for an adventurous and wild walk high above the sea. Continue another hour down to the wide, sandy beach of Porto Ferro for a refreshing post-hike swim and lunch with a sea view. Afterward, we have a short drive back to Alghero, where you’ll have some free time to wander the colorful city streets before dinner. We’ll dine in a great restaurant featuring creative and delicious Sardinian dishes. The Hike : 9.6 km/5.9 mls. Elevation gain 304 meters/997 ft, elevation loss 399 meters/1309 ft. Overnight Alghero. Hotel, breakfast, and dinner included.

After breakfast, we hit the road and head south along one of the most scenic drives on the island. Our destination is the beautiful coastal town of Bosa, where you'll find colorful houses in pastel hues, wrought-iron balconies, and narrow medieval alleys. Time for a mid-morning cappuccino and they we take you on a beautiful kayak trip down the Temo River with a local guide. We paddle through the old town, under the 16th century stone bridge, and gradually enter a wild and secluded part of the small river for an unexpected trip into the abundant flora and fauna of the small river. This is super easy kayaking so that novices will have no problems. After our aquatic adventures, we’ll have lunch with a wine tasting at a local wine cellar famous for its Malvasia wines. Afterward, we have a 1-hour transfer inland to Santu Antine, one of Sardinia's most important Nuraghe sites. Nuraghe are the ancient megalithic structures that the Nuragic civilization built as far back as 1,900 B.C. These impressive edifices are mysterious, intriguing, and unique to Sardinia. We then reach ”Su Gologone,” a welcoming 4-star hotel of whitewashed terracotta-roofed cottages set amongst a lush garden of hydrangeas, bougainvillea, and prickly pear. Each room is different, and the furnishings and materials are all local with colorful decorative flourishes. Overnight Su Gologone.  Hotel, breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Transfer this morning to the trailhead, which leads us to the hidden ruins of the ancient village of Tíscali. Built inside a massive collapsed cave it is protected by natural walls but open to the sun and fresh rainwater. It consists of two groups of dwellings inhabited between the 15th - 8th centuries BC. Its origins are still unclear today, as the building technique differs from other Nuragic sites. Besides the ruins of Tiscali, the hike features expansive views over the rough and rocky spine of the island. This afternoon, there is time to relax by the hotel pool this afternoon. Tonight, you will dine on the delicate filo-like flatbreads and hearty, savory tarts the village women have made for centuries. The Hike : 6.4 km/4 ml. Elevation gain 369 m/1210 ft. Elevation loss 340m/1115 ft. Dinner tonight on the terrace. Overnight Su Gologone.  Hotel, breakfast, and dinner included.

A 50-minute drive takes us to the mountain pass of Genna Silana for a hike rocky and wild hike down into the spectacular Gorropu gorge. After a long descent we reach the crystal clear waters of the gorge. Natural rock pools invite you to soak your feet in the bracingly cold water or you can take a full plunge if you’re brave enough! The white gray rock of the gorge narrows to 5 meters (16 ft) wide between sheer rock walls that rise up 500 meters (1,650 ft) high. You can chose to hike up the boulder strewn gorge for as far as you like, but eventually you turn around to exit the gorge on an easy trail that follows the river. Eventually, we get to a point where we take a Jeep for an adventurous (and painless!) ride back up the Genna Silana pass. Keen hikers can also choose to do the ascent back up to the pass. Afterward, a short drive takes us east to the seaside to the lively port village of Cala Gonone. Our hotel, the 4-star Costa Dorada Hotel (or similar), is right on the waterfront, so you can relax with a cold drink on the terrace or walk 20 meters to the beach for a swim before dinner on your own.  The Hike : variable length, 5,3 km down the valley 1h30’, about 2 km in the gorge 1hr.  Overnight Cala Gonone. Hotel, breakfast, and picnic lunch included. Dinner is not included.

Our final day is all about the sea: we begin with a two-hour coastal hike to Cala Luna, where we’ll stop for a swim and a tasty lunch. We finish off our tour with a boat trip to experience some of Sardinia’s most spectacular and isolated bays and beaches (weather permitting, of course). Alternatively, you can enjoy the afternoon exploring the coast by sea kayak (optional activity) or you can choose to simply chill out and enjoy our hotel overlooking the lovely Cala Gonone beach.  The Hike : 5.4 km/3.3 miles. Elevation gain 242 meters/794 ft, elevation loss 272 meters/892 ft.  Overnight Cala Gonone. Hotel, breakfast and dinner included.

We offer one 1hr15 min transfer to the Olbia airport, arriving around 10:30 a.m. If you need to leave earlier, we can arrange a taxi for you (at your expense).  Breakfast included.

Please note : Some details of the itinerary may change according to the departure date of your tour. Whenever we run a tour we make new discoveries. Sometimes they are good discoveries, like a wonderful new trattoria, and sometimes they are bad, like a trail has been washed away. The result is that we sometimes change our itinerary to improve it by adding new wonderful elements to the tour or by removing something that does not work anymore. Rest assured, our goal is to always provide you with the best possible experience. We will advise you of any changes to the original itinerary prior to departure.

Activity rating : 3+ out of 5 = Moderate "Plus"

In general : This is a Moderate tour for fit hikers who will find the walks a satisfying workout, while less-fit hikers will find them challenging but do-able and have a great sense of achievement at the end of the week. Terrain : Rolling to hilly terrain with frequent steep ascents and descents. Actual hiking time : Between 3-5 hours per day, mostly in the morning but also in the afternoon. Distances : Usually 8 - 12 kms (5 - 7 mi) per day. Max distance 12 kms (7 mi). Surfaces : Trails are a mix of compact earth or dirt track, gravel roads, and very rocky, uneven wooded trails. You will also encounter centuries' old stone stairways, boulders, and rocky steps. The "+" that makes this a 3+ out of 5 activity rating indicates that the trails are more rugged and rockier than a normal 3 out of 5 moderate tour. You need to be an experienced hiker who is able to negotiate rocky, uneven trails and some short stretches that may require some people to steady themselves with their hands. Footing : Good, but you have to pay attention to where and how you place your feet. Proper hiking shoes with thick soles with good treads are required. Sports sandals, running shoes, and tennis shoes are not adequate. Specifics : The terrain is often rugged but not technically difficult. Most of the trails are rocky, and some involve short sections of scree (loose rock) and boulders, with some steep ups and downs on uneven terrain. The trails are often in the sun, and we walk between 6 - 12 km (4 - 7 mi.) every day. Hiking Poles : These are highly recommended but not required, and if you habitually use hiking poles, you will regret not having them. Compared to the Cinque Terre : The Cinque Terre is the perfect example of a 3+ rated tour. Our most common comment about the Cinque Terre walk and other tours rated 3+ is “More challenging than I expected but I am glad I did it”. Other : This tour is appropriate for “sporty and fit” first-time hikers who enjoy walking and have good balance. People with hip and knee issues might find a 3+ tour challenging because of the terrain and the duration of the hikes. Moderate Plus Tours : Amalfi is the easiest of this group, then Dolomites Lite, followed by the Cinque Terre, Sardinia, Northern Greece Meteora & Zagori, and Andalusia. As a point of reference, what is a 1 out of 5 Activity rating? A 1 out of 5 rated tour is a tour without any hiking. Walks would be in towns, cities, and villages, and the countryside walks would be on paved, or gravel/dirt roads, and occasionally on some packed earth trails. Elevation gain and loss would be negligible. As a point of reference, what is a 5 out of 5 Activity rating? A 5 out of 5 rated tour is a tour that would be physically challenging and technically difficult even for very fit and experienced hikers. The hikes would have steep ascents and descents on narrow, exposed trails with challenging footing, such as on scree fields, or through rock falls and boulders. Distances would be up to 25 km/16 miles per day and feature ascents of over 1,000 m/3,200 feet in a day. A 5 out of 5 tour would also mean that you would be carrying a heavier-than-normal pack. None of our tours are rated 5 out 5. Our most challenging tours are 4.5 out of 5, and they are the Dolomites Alta Via (because of some exposed trail that requires some technical expertise) and our Republic of Georgia tour which has some long hikes with over 1,000 meters of elevation gain.

Getting There: We begin our trip in Olbia, which is easily reached by air from Rome and Milan plus a number of other European hubs. You can also get to Olbia by ferry from the Italian mainland. Air: The closest airport is Olbia. For a complete list of Italian airports and a selection of low-cost airlines, see our "Transport Info" page . Ferry:  there are ferry connections with Civitavecchia (near Rome), Livorno (near Pisa), and Genoa with a three different companies, so see the latest schedules at the Direct Ferries website.

Getting Away at the End of the Trip:  the trip ends after breakfast on Sunday morning with an hour transfer to the Olbia airport, arriving around 10:30 a.m.

If you book a trip with us you will receive detailed information about how to get to the start of your trip, or feel free to e-mail us with any specific travel questions.

This is my second hiking trip with Customwalks, and won't be my last. They create interesting and appropriately challenging hiking itineraries paired with wonderful hotels and excellent spots for lunch and dinner. Sardinia had quite a beautiful array of scenery and now I know I need to see more of the island. This hike is kind of the best of both worlds with some days being able to get that elevation but end in a pool or on a beach when you are done!

This was my 3rd trip with CustonWalks, and won't be my last - each is better! The team cares for both our pleasure and our safety! The intimacy of learning a region from literally walking where people have walked for 500-1000 or more years is very special and brings a deep sense of the culture. And the food comas every evening are very satisfying!

This was a superbly organised trip. The hikes were challenging in parts but at a pace that made them very do-able. Some scrambling over rocks but the views were worth it! Our guide Manu was friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble, a credit to the company. I had never been to Sardinia before but I’m in love with the country. The hotels were lovely and there was free time built in to enjoy the facilities or explore the area and the food was out of this world. I recommend this tour to anyone who loves walking (and eating)

This is a spectacular trip guided by experts. Manu and Brett are delightful and knowledgeable. If you're looking for gorgeous scenery, challenging hiking, interesting history and archaeology, and delicious food, visit Sardinia. Highlights included a grotto adventure (accessible only by boat), bouldering in a spectacular canyon, swimming off the boat in the blue-green Mediterranean, and a cooking class. Oh yes, the beds were comfy after a day on the trail, and the company was excellent!

Another fabulous Customwalks tour...my 3rd in 3 different countries. The indefatigable Manu,(always with a smile);Brett’s dry humour and mastery of logistics ; a good itinerary; comfortable accommodation, excellent and plentiful food and a good group made for a great week. One less group lunch and an extra hour of walking per day would be my only recommended changes. Thank you for an experience that would be hard to replicate on your own. DK

Fantastic to see the “real” Sardinia - through naturewalks in beautiful areas where the locals go! The food was delicious, the guides were delightful and the accommodations were well-appointed. There is nothing like the emerald color of the Sea surrounding this captivating island.

This was our 17th tour with Customwalks and just as enjoyable as all the others. There was a really nice variety of walks, each day's walk was different to the previous ones. The food and accommodation were good, I especially enjoyed the second hotel at Su Gologone which was very unusual and quite beautiful. The guides were phenomenal as always and ensured that we all had a trip to remember. In all a very nice introduction to Sardinia.

If you have any questions or specific requests about any of our tours, we’re here to help. You can fill in the form below, send us an email, or call us and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

What Should You Bring To Sardinia as a Tourist?

Sardinia is a beautiful region of Italy with a rich history and culture dating back to the time of ancient civilizations. The best way to experience this unique country is by immersing yourself in its culture, exploring its historic sites and activities. There are many different things to do in Sardinia that will keep you entertained for days on end. It has a lot of natural beauty and wonderful culture. Sardinia is a perfect place for those who want to enjoy the seaside, hiking through the mountains, or visiting ancient ruins. Below, we write what you should bring with you when you go to Sardinia as a tourist.

  • Snacks for your day trips
  • An umbrella (just in case if you come on winter)

What Clothing Should I Take on Vacation in Sardinia?

We all know that packing clothes is a part of the holiday routine that we all dread, but it doesn’t have to be! In this section, we will give you some tips for what you should pack on your vacation. This article will provide you with some useful tips on what clothes to pack for your upcoming vacation in Sardinia . Sardinia offers many opportunities for tourists to enjoy the weather and beaches, but it does, of course, have its own set of challenges too. The unpredictable changes in temperature make it difficult to pack for a summer holiday there.

What should I wear for a summer vacation?

It is important to dress appropriately for your destination. Even if it’s a place you’ve been before, the climate and culture can change from year to year. For example, if you’re going to be visiting the Sardinia Island in the summer, even an outfit from last year might not be appropriate because it’s been unusually warm this year. In general, skirts and dresses are great options since they’re lightweight and easy to move around in. Tops that can easily transition into nightwear are also a great choice. You can also like sweaters- they’re not only stylish but cozy too. The most important thing you should do is dress appropriately for the weather conditions. If it is very hot, wear light clothes that are easy to remove when the temperature rises again – like cotton shirts and trousers rather than jeans or thick sweaters. If it’s cold outside, bring a good coat and hat with you to stay warm when hiking or exploring caves. If you are spending time by the sea or swimming outdoors, always take sun protection into account.

Packing Your Bags For A Fun Summer Vacation!

Summer vacation is a time for adventure, relaxation and memories. In order to make sure that your summer vacation is the best it can be, there are a few things you should pack! First of all, you need to pack some clothes. You will want to bring enough clothes for the duration of your trip. If you are going somewhere far away or if it will be hot and humid where you are going, take clothing that can withstand those weather conditions. When packing clothes, don’t forget the swimsuit and other gear if appropriate for your destination! When packing shoes, we recommend against taking more than two pairs of shoes with you on your trip. That way you won’t have too many options and will be more likely to wear them during your vacation as opposed to just sitting.

Agriturismo Canales (or similar)

Ghosts Of San Diego Walking Tour

Most people who visit San Diego come for the white sandy beaches, but there’s another aspect you can learn about on this Ghosts of San Diego walking tour.

Start your uncanny journey at Heritage Park Row, where your guide will meet you. Drop into three chilling locations over the space of 1.5 hours, including La Casa de Estudillo (one of the city’s oldest buildings) and Whaley House Museum. Plus El Campo Santo Cemetery, where the spirits go to play.

We’d classify this as one of the scariest tours in San Diego. It’s only suitable for teens and adults because of the nature of the stories told. Disturbing, right?

Start things off at Headquarters at Seaport to learn about the Old Police Headquarters; you’ll even get to pop your head into the cells. Check out USS Midway Museum to hear about the story behind the military ship.

End the tour at Star of India and Berkley Steamboat Ferry to find out about the supernatural happenings that have been reported.
