Customers are scrambling to book Seabourn's 2023 world cruise after the luxury cruise line debuted the 140-day trip earlier this month.

Seabourn Cruise Line — owned by Carnival — first began accepting bookings for its "2023 World Cruise: Extraordinary Discoveries" on February 12. Since then, the cruise's penthouse spa and premium suites have sold out, a Seabourn spokesperson told Insider in an email statement.

And now, the cruise line is seeing more demand for the 2023 world cruise than it saw for its 2020, 2021, and 2022 world cruises from the same selling cycle.

This high demand for Seabourn's future cruise signals a potential wider trend in travel. World cruises could become more popular after the COVID-19 pandemic is over because of pent up demand for travel . Similarly, when Oceania Cruises debuted its 2023 world cruise starting at $41,600 per person  on January 27, the 180-day trip sold out within a day.

"Despite the challenges the world faces today , travelers are clearly bullish on the future and are embracing these new opportunities to travel the world," Bob Binder, president and CEO of Oceania Cruises, said in a statement after its 2023 global cruise sold out.

Seabourn Launches 2023 World Cruise and Grand Voyage

  • February 11, 2021

seabourn 140 day cruise

Seabourn has launched its 2023 World Cruise and Grand Voyage.

The 140-day 2023 World Cruise: Extraordinary Discoveries on Seabourn Sojourn, and 79-day 2023 Grand Voyage: Grand Americas, Amazon & Antarctica aboard Seabourn Quest, offer two distinct voyages set to visit multiple continents and ports, the company said.

The voyages will be open for sale tomorrow, February 12, and the full itinerary details will be available on Seabourn’s website.

The itineraries of both sailings were carefully designed by Seabourn’s Global Itinerary Planning and Product Development team, who designed each voyage with “differentiation” and unique experiences in mind.

“Our team designed the 2023 World Cruise and 2023 Grand Voyage to be exploratory in nature, focused on alluring destinations and experiences that most guests are likely not familiar with but will love being able to discover,” said Tim Littley, senior director of Global Itinerary Planning and Product Development for Seabourn.

“Given these uncertain times, our guests have asked Seabourn to offer travel options further into the future. With the 2023 World Cruise and Grand Voyage, we open options well into 2023 for future planning,” said Josh Leibowitz, president of Seabourn. “Imagine sailing from Miami, heading south and then west around the world and finishing the voyage in Barcelona on Seabourn’s world cruise or departing round-trip Miami and circumnavigating South America including iconic Antarctica.”

2023 World Cruise

The Seabourn Sojourn cross two great oceans – Pacific and Indian – as well as sail the Atlantic Ocean along the coast of Africa, stopping at various famous ports, including Papeete, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Mombasa, Cape Town, Durban, Dakar, Casablanca and more. The ship will also visit a number of smaller ports in the South Pacific, Easter Island, Papua New Guinea, Western Australia, Seychelles, Cape Verde, West Africa and more. Departing on January 6, 2023, the 140-day voyage from Miami to Barcelona will visit a total of 61 destinations and 32 countries. The sailing will include overnights in 10 cities and extended stays late into the evening in 16 ports, offering more time in port for guests to explore these fascinating destinations. Seabourn will also offer segments of the World Cruise ranging from 21 to 81 days in length for travelers who can’t sail for the full duration of the voyage.

2023 Grand Voyage: Grand Americas, Amazon & Antarctica

The 2023 Grand Voyage will see Seabourn Quest sail to Central America, and them along the coast of South America, and to Antarctica, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands, before making its way back smoothly to the Amazon and through the Caribbean. Departing on January 6, 2023, the 79-day voyage round-trip from Miami will visit a total of 37 destinations and 15 countries, with five overnight stays and extended stays late into the evening in eight destinations. Cruise Line Opens 140 Day Cruise That Will Visit 32 Countries and Six Continents for Bookings

Ben Souza

Scheduled to depart Miami on January 3, 2021, the World Cruise will sail east-to-west visiting Central America, the west coast of South America, the islands of the South Pacific, Australia, Indonesia, and Africa, before ending in Barcelona, Spain, on May 24, 2021.

As the name of the World Cruise implies, Seabourn Sojourn will cross two great oceans – Pacific and Indian – as well as traverse the Atlantic Ocean along the coast of Africa. The 140-day voyage will include 10 overnights and linger late into the evening in 16 ports, offering guests ample opportunities to explore these fascinating destinations in depth.

In addition, there will be exclusive world cruise events planned over the course of the journey for guests on the full 140-day voyage, as well as local entertainment, regional cuisines, and palate-pleasing wines for all guests to savor as they sail around the globe.

Guests who book the full 140-day voyage by May 31, 2020, will receive a value-packed menu of complimentary benefits and amenities, including:

  • Roundtrip Business Class Air
  • $4,000 Shipboard Credit per suite ($2,000 Shipboard Credit per person)
  • $6,000 Shipboard Credit per suite for Penthouse and Premium Suites ($3,000  Shipboard Credit per person)
  • Unlimited Internet Package
  • Private car transfers door-to-door between home and airport
  • Personal Valet luggage shipping service between home and ship in Miami and Barcelona
  • Unlimited laundry, dry cleaning and pressing on board
  • Gala Bon Voyage dinner & overnight hotel stay prior to departure in Miami
  • Three exclusive World Cruise events
  • Visa package (available for guests from North America and Canada)
  • Special World Cruise pillow gifts

Destination highlights on Seabourn’s 2021 World Cruise include:

Central and South America – Seabourn Sojourn’s passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific will brim with experiences guests won’t want to miss. The ship will skim the coast of Central America before making a full transit of the 51-mile-long Panama Canal, a feat of human ingenuity that continues to impress. Optional overland tours and shore excursions in South America will include the remarkable mountaintop Inca citadel of Machu Picchu in Peru, and the paradise of the Galapagos archipelago some 850 miles off the mainland coast of Ecuador.

The World Cruise will also feature Seabourn’s first-ever landing at Easter Island – aka Rapa Nui – a bucket list destination if ever there was one, with an overnight stay and two full days to explore the mysterious stone-faced moai and more in depth. “Easter Island is something that will stay with you forever,” says Littley.

South Pacific – Seabourn Sojourn will visit Tahiti, Cook Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea in the South Pacific. In Fiji, guests will visit Dravuni, a volcanic island less-than-½-mile square, with sparkling white-sand beaches and a population of fewer than 200.

“It’ll be like Robinson Crusoe on Dravuni, with the beach all to us,” says Littley. The ship will also spend a day at Tavanipupu, a private island in the Solomon Islands, with spectacular snorkeling and a traditional welcome by indigenous performers, as well as three days at Papua New Guinea, home of one of the world’s oldest civilizations.

Australia – Following the arrival at Cairns, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, Seabourn Sojourn will proceed south along the coast of Australia with stops to take in the stunning harbor of Sydney, the indigenous penguin colonies of tiny Phillip Island, and an overnight stay in Melbourne.

The ship will spend a long day for guests to savor the renowned culinary offerings of Adelaide; cross the Great Australian Bight; call in Albany, the last stop for Anzac forces bound for Europe during World War II; and take in Bunbury, renowned for wild bottlenose dolphins that swim along the shore of Koombana Bay, before sailing north up the western edge of the continent to Broome.

Africa – Following seven days in Indonesia including two nights in Bali, the ship will cross the Indian Ocean en route to Africa, with two days in Seychelles leading to three days in Mombasa, Kenya. “Mombasa is our anchor highlight,” says Littley, noting onshore opportunities such as optional safari tours to potentially witness the “Big Five” in the Serengeti.

The ship’s list of destinations in Africa goes on and on, including overnights in Cape Town, South Africa, and Walvis Bay, Namibia, the latter offering desert tours that stay out until late in the evening to gaze at stars in impossibly dark skies.

Travelers who book the full World Cruise by March 31, 2020, will receive a 50 percent reduced deposit. Guests who pay in full by May 31, 2020, will receive an additional 3 percent savings off the cruise-only fare.

Put This 140-Day Cruise On Your Bucket List

Picture of Richard Simms

Richard Simms

  • August 3, 2019

If you’ve got about five months of vacation time you’re looking to get rid of, Seabourn has a bucket-list cruise for you. Give them 140 days, and they’ll take you around the world.

The Trip Of A Lifetime

sj c037 hero 2880x1047 180412.jpg.image .750.563.low

The Extraordinary Oceans voyage will leave Miami on January 3, 2020, aboard the Seabourn Sojourn , and this promises to be a trip like no other. If we’re breaking it down by the numbers, the ship will visit 60 ports in 32 countries spread across six continents.

Translation: If you want to buy a souvenir from every stop, you’d better create a separate savings account right now… and bring an empty suitcase.

“I wanted this World Cruise to be exploratory in nature,” explains Tim Littley, Seabourn’s senior director of itinerary planning. He added he wanted it to be “focused thematically on alluring destinations and experiences that are a blend of sought-after favorites combined with other smaller, quaint ports that are perhaps a bit unknown to some.”

As the name Extraordinary Oceans implies, the ship will cross two of the bodies of water — the Pacific and Indian Oceans — as well as traversing the Atlantic Ocean along the coast of Africa. “Even though we’re headed around the world,” said Littley, “we’re comfortably wandering as we move from place to place. The cadence of the journey is designed to get guests into the rhythm of exploration with an equal amount of time to relax.”

A First-Time Visit To Easter Island

IMG 2287

And there will certainly be plenty of time to relax, as the journey will include 10 overnight stays, as well as 16 ports in which the ship will linger late into the evening. Among the highlights will be Seabourn’s first-ever landing at Easter Island, which alone should make this a bucket-list topper for many. “Easter Island is something that will stay with you forever,” says Littley. The visit to this unique destination will include an overnight stay, giving two full days to explore the island’s beauty and soak up its mystery.

Another highlight will be a visit to Dravuni, a volcanic island in the South Pacific that is less than one-half mile square. It features white-sand beaches and, with a population of less than 200, might just be the closest you want to come to an actual deserted island.

Other port calls will give travelers a wide range of adventures to chose from including a safari in Africa, an opportunity to savor the culinary wonders of Adelaide, Australia, and explore the exotic wonders of Tahiti.

So, how much will this incredible trip cost?

The starting price is just north of $60,000 per person for an oceanview suite.

But by booking early, you can receive a whole slew of complimentary benefits and amenities including roundtrip business class airfare, $2,000 onboard credit per person, free internet and more.

The Seabourn Club loyalty program explained

The Seabourn Club is the Seabourn loyalty program. It rewards guests with free cruises and gifts, as well as onboard amenities.

In this article

  • Milestone Awards
  • About Seabourn Club Points

The Seabourn loyalty program is known as the Seabourn Club. It rewards guests with free cruises and gifts, as well as onboard amenities.

  • Free cruises.
  • Cruise discounts.
  • Free laundry allowance.
  • Complex system of benefits.

The Seabourn Club has two types of awards; Milestone Awards and Seabourn Club Points . One is based on the number of days you sail, while the other is based on the number of points you earn on Seabourn products and services.

It is somewhat complicated, but it’s worth remembering that Milestone Awards count toward free cruises , while Seabourn Club Points determine your membership tier and associated benefits.

Milestone Awards include Tiffany & Co. branded gifts in addition to free cruises. To achieve each of the Milestone Awards you must accumulate a certain number of Sailed Days on Seabourn. Indeed, each day you sail earns you one Sailed Day. Milestone Awards kick-in once you have reached 100 Sailed Days.

Milestones for Tiffany & Co. branded gifts

  • 100 Sailed Days.
  • 200 Sailed Days.
  • 500 Sailed Days.
  • Then every 500 more Sailed Days thereafter.

Milestones for free cruises

  • 140 Sailed Days – FREE 7-day cruise.
  • 250 Sailed Days – FREE 14-day cruise.

It’s worth noting that free award cruises do not include fuel supplements, taxes, fees or port expenses. So you will need to pay for these out of your own pocket.

Seabourn Club Points determine your tier level. In fact, the more points you earn, the higher your membership tier and associated benefits.

Tier levels

There are six membership tiers in the Seabourn Club. You will be welcomed into each tier automatically upon earning the required number of points.

Earning Seabourn Club Points

Points can be earned in a variety of ways. Indeed, there are points for days sailed, bonus points and points for escorted land-based side-trips. You can also earn Points for your onboard spend.

  • Each Sailed Day earns you one point.
  • Every Sailed Day in a penthouse or premium suite also earns one bonus point.
  • In addition, each night on an escorted Seabourn Journey earns one point.
  • Plus, every US$500 of eligible onboard and pre-cruise online purchases also earns one point.

Seabourn Club benefits

All Seabourn Club members are entitled to an extra 5% saving on top of any other publicly offered discounts on select Seabourn voyages.

However, each membership tier offers more benefits than the one before. Indeed, these benefits include free laundry, complimentary internet and even Signature Massages. Top-tier members also enjoy exclusive benefits like priority embarkation and ship transfers.

The Seabourn Club loyalty program has some great features, including free cruises and generous cruise discounts for low-tier members. I also like the Tiffany & Co. branded Milestone gifts.

Complimentary internet is a welcome addition, although it has to be said this comes as standard on certain other ultra-luxury cruise lines. It’s also worth noting that the free laundry allowance is limited to one bag for all but top-tier members.

However, in my view the downside of the Seabourn Club loyalty program is its complexity. The six membership tiers can make assessing your benefits somewhat difficult.

Visit the Seabourn loyalty program website for more information.

*One bag for every 7 days on board. **Some restrictions may apply. ***On select voyages. • Dry cleaning and “same day service” is not complimentary and will be charged at regular rates.

The curious and the sea: silversea® unveils 140-day world cruise for 2026, its most diverse voyage ever.

seabourn 140 day cruise

Inspired by the curiosity that led ancient seafarers to sail to unknown lands, Silversea Cruises’ World Cruise 2026 will call in the highest number of destinations in the cruise line’s history Watch a video on Silversea Cruises’ World Cruise 2026 (Monaco – May 25, 2023) Silversea Cruises®, the leading ultra-luxury cruise line, has unveiled details on its 140-day World Cruise 2026, ‘The Curious and the Sea’—the most diverse and immersive voyage in the cruise line’s history, which broadens the largest collection of extended sailings in ultra-luxury cruising. Guests will embark Silver Dawn ®in Fort Lauderdale on January 6, 2026, before travelling deep into 70 destinations in 37 countries—the most ever on a Silversea World Cruise—including 26 calls that are new for a Silversea World Cruise or unvisited since 2020, and 9 overnights. An exclusive pre-sale opens to Venetian Society members on June 14, while general sales open on June 22. ‘The Curious and the Sea’ will connect travellers with the rich history of navigation, inspired by the same curiosity that led ancient seafarers to sail to unknown lands. Channeling the same spirit of discovery that has driven exploration throughout the ages, bespoke events ashore, onboard activities, regionally inspired culinary experiences, three optional overland tours (Uzbekistan, Luxor, and the Balkans), and more will enrich the voyage. Guests will follow ancient trade routes, sailing the waters that connected the Silk Road, and transiting both the Panama and Suez canals; they will step foot on some of the world’s most remote islands, including those in the South Pacific, a region explored by Captain James Cook in the 18th century; and they will witness lands that inspired scientific progression, such as Western Australia, which attracted Charles Darwin in 1836. “Calling in more destinations than any voyage in Silversea’s history, our World Cruise 2026, ‘The Curious and the Sea,’ will connect the most enriching experiences across 70 destinations and six continents,” said Barbara Muckermann, President and CEO, Silversea Cruises. “For this World Cruise, we took inspiration from history’s most pioneering explorers, each of whom has sailed to the end of the earth—driven by curiosity and a thirst for discovery. Appealing to the curious traveller within, we are inviting our guests to experience our planet’s beauty with new eyes, while celebrating the rich history of navigation. ‘The Curious and the Sea’ demonstrates our commitment to unlocking the most immersive travel experiences for our guests, broadening the largest collection of extended voyages in ultra-luxury cruising. We can’t wait to welcome our extended family aboard Silver Dawn for this special sailing.” 70 DESTINATIONS, 37 COUNTRIES, 26 NEW DESTINATIONS, 140 DAYS Following a curated travel experience—including private executive transfers, Business class air, and a dedicated meet and greet service—world cruising guests will board Silver Dawn in Fort Lauderdale on January 6, 2026, journeying through Central America, before transiting the Panama Canal to South America. Easter Island, French Polynesia, and the South Pacific will follow, leading guests to New Zealand and a semi-circumnavigation of Australia. Travellers will then explore Southeast Asia, crossing the Bay of Bengal to Sri Lanka, India, and the Red Sea, before passing through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean. They will delve into European history and culture, before the voyage concludes in Lisbon, Portugal, on May 27, 2026. Highlights will include:

  • NEWLY SCOUTED: 28-DAY DEEP DIVE OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC Following months of extensive scouting by Silversea’s destination experts to unlock new destinations, a 28-day immersion into French Polynesia and the South Pacific will highlight the global voyage. New calls for a Silversea World Cruise include Nuku Hiva and Atuona in the Marquesas Islands; Fakarava, with its UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve; Tonga’s Nuku’alofa; New Caledonia’s Lifou and Noumea; and Norfolk Island. Explorations of Bora Bora and Papeete in French Polynesia, Aitutaki in the Cook Islands, and Savusavu in Fiji will also highlight the region. Bespoke World Cruise events will spotlight the South Pacific’s history, traditions, and folklore.
  • FIRST TIME ON A SILVERSEA WORLD CRUISE: SEMI-CIRCUMNAVIGATION OF AUSTRALIA Silver Dawn will sail between Hobart (Tasmania) and Darwin on a 21-day semi-circumnavigation of Australia, journeying off the beaten path along the country’s southern and western coastlines for the first time on a Silversea World Cruise. Guests will admire some of the world’s clearest night skies, retracing the steps of early explorers who looked to the stars for navigation, as well as the country’s most spectacular landscapes and wildlife species—some of which inspired Charles Darwin’s ‘Theory of Evolution.’ Highlights will include the rarely visited Phillip Island for the chance to see the penguin parade, during which thousands of Little Penguins dash from the sea to the dunes; Port Lincoln, for the Coffin Bay National Park and the Eyre Peninsula; and Esperance, visited for the first time on a Silversea World Cruise, with its pink salt lakes. Other calls will include Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as Exmouth for the Ningaloo Reef and the chance to swim with whale sharks, and the Kimberley Coast.
  • ALL-NEW CULTURAL EXPERIENCES IN NORTHERN AFRICA An emphatic finale to ‘The Curious and the Sea,’ Silver Dawn will unlock the cultures of Northern Africa for the first time on a Silversea World Cruise. One of the most eagerly anticipated calls on the voyage, La Goulette in Tunisia will provide insight into the bygone eras of the Ancient Carthaginians and the Roman Empire, with its UNESCO-listed medina, the Bardo Museum, and its fascinating cultural offering. A gateway to Tunisia, La Goulette is an historic port that has long been key for international trade, connecting Africa with Europe.
  • BESPOKE & EXCLUSIVE: WORLD CRUISE EVENTS
  • ‘POLYNESIAN DREAMS’ – THE SOUTH PACIFIC: A bespoke event in French Polynesia, reserved exclusively for world cruising guests, will display the rich, historical seagoing cultures of local communities, with a seafood feast and cultural performances that connect guests with the soul of these spectacular islands. During the event, guests will sample the local flavours, learn the local dances, and bask in the Polynesian sunset.
  • ‘THE MAGIC OF MYSTERY ISLAND’ - MYSTERY ISLAND, VANUATU: Collaborating closely with the island’s Chief and the department of tourism, Silversea has curated a special event on Mystery Island in Vanuatu. Dancers from various islands throughout the region will perform a fusion of cultural rituals, while guests dine on catch of the day in a scenic beach setting and snorkel in some of the world’s clearest waters, which teem with marine life.
  • 'FROM PADDY TO PLATE’ – BENOA, BALI: The cruise line’s guests will feast on regional cuisine alongside the stunning rice paddies of the five-star Tanah Gajah resort in Benoa, Bali. Authentic Balinese performances will enrich the occasion, as travellers develop an appreciation for Southeast Asia’s sacred grain, which migrated around the world with the early seafarers.
  • 'THE EXOTIC MARIGOLD AND MORE’ – COCHIN, INDIA: Guests will journey into Alleppey in the backwaters of Cochin for a bespoke afternoon of entertainment. Following a tuk-tuk ride through the urban streets, guests will be greeted with flower garlands and exclusive cultural experiences, including performances from Kerala drummers and martial artists, an authentic Sadhya lunch served on banana leaves, and a traditional houseboat cruise down the Kerala River.

SILVER DAWN : AMONG THE MOST LUXURIOUS SHIPS AT SEA Travelling aboard the ultra-luxury Silver Dawn , guests will benefit from the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodations that are hallmarks of the Silversea experience. All guests will enjoy the personalised service of a butler and one of the highest space-to-guest ratios at sea, at 68 GRT-per-guest. The latest Muse-class ship offers travellers immersive culinary experiences both on board and ashore through Silversea’s S.A.L.T.℠ culinary programme . In the S.A.L.T. Lab, an onboard test kitchen, more than 60 culinary programmes curated by regional food experts will enable travellers to get hands-on with local ingredients during the World Cruise 2026. In the S.A.L.T. Kitchen, the menu will change daily, inspired by local flavours. The S.A.L.T. Bar will offer approximately 70 custom-designed cocktails related to visited destinations. Exclusively reserved for full world cruising guests, two complimentary S.A.L.T. experiences ashore, designed in collaboration with some of the world’s foremost restaurants, will also enrich guests’ travels. Moreover, a complimentary treatment and a host of wellness experiences offered through the Roman-inspired Otium℠ wellness programme will indulge guests as they discover the world. SILVERSEA’S WORLD CRUISE COLLECTION

Silversea Cruises offers the largest selection of extended voyages in ultra-luxury cruising. The cruise line’s World Cruise 2023, ‘South Side Story,’ is due to conclude in Fort Lauderdale on May 28, having called in 67 destinations over more than 130 days. Highlights of the voyage include a bespoke event on Kalanggaman Island in the Philippines, for which the cruise line rented the entire island and collaborated with 500+ locals; an exclusive evening at Manaus’ opera house in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest; and an evening of authentic entertainment in the Cave of Descending Dragons in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. Cool Cruiser

Next year, after our September 20 night cruise we will have amassed 139 days sailed (I know...... just one day short!!)

Does anyone know if we booked back to back cruises after then, could we have the second week as our free cruise?

I'm curious about this too.  Also, you may go over the 139 if you have booked shore excursions.  I think it is one day for every thousand spent - not sure about the amount.

We are way over the 140 if you include onboard spending but I am nearly sure it's days sailed only that count for the free cruise.

Good to know.  Thank you.

It is not as simple as a free weeks cruise. Seabourn gave me a £ figure for my free cruise against my 30 night cruise.

Thanks

Can the free week (or the equivalent $) be applied to a cruise that has already been scheduled with a deposit but not yet fully paid for?

That is the sequence of events for the 30 day cruise I had it applied to.

We discussed this with the on-board cruise consultant on our last cruise. My understanding is that this is not possible. Seabourn corporate won't even begin to check your eligibility until you have completed your 140/250 days. They will check your most frequently booked category to enable a decision on which suite category your complimentary 7/14 days cruise should be. Even while you are on the cruise on which you reach the required number of days, they won't let you book the "free" one as they won't have done the checking.

I booked a 30 day cruise and paid the deposit. 6 months later I qualified for a free cruise.

Following qualification, my agent contacted Seabourn and they calculated the £ value of the free cruise based on my most frequent suite purchased.

They then applied this to the already booked 30 day cruise before final payment was due.

Cruise review: The Seabourn Pursuit expedition experience

Megan Catterall, LUXE by itravel shares insight on Seabourn's expedition offering

Go back to the e-newsletter

When the opportunity arose for luxury cruise expert  Megan Catterall to join an expedition voyage with Seabourn through lesser-travelled regions of the Pacific, she was quick to jump at it. And with the voyage aboard the newest purpose-built luxury expedition ship on the market, Seabourn Pursuit , who could blame the LUXE by itravel advisor.

Catterall was one of a small contingent of Australian advisors hand-picked to experience Seabourn’s expedition product on a, relatively, close-to-home sailing from Guam in May 2024. The 14-day Isles of Papua New Guinea expedition encompassed some of the most remote islands in the North Pacific waters of Micronesia (one of which was uninhabited aside from thousands of birds), an equator crossing, and frequent zodiac excursions directly from Seabourn Pursuit to other isolated islands and villages in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, meeting locals and watching their colourful performances of song and dance.

LATTE , also onboard Pursuit for the expedition which concluded in Honiara, chatted with Catterall in order to share her view on Seabourn’s expedition product and program.

What was a highlight for you aboard Seabourn Pursuit ?

I loved Seabourn Square as I love a good coffee. Seabourn’s baristas sure do have it perfected when it comes to a fresh brew, and they also have pastries available (all day!) and can you keep a secret? The almond croissants are freshly backed each morning, hot out of the oven, so yes that was a joy to see and of course on holidays you can indulge! But they go fast so you have to be quick! But Seabourn Square is so much more than a coffee spot. It’s a space to relax. There are puzzles and lots seating, tranquil indoor and outdoor, and there’s also a library.

The Starlink internet onboard is so fast and just great even in this remote part of the world. I was able to work whilst on this fam, and so I would often find myself in Seabourn Square clearing emails and responding to clients.

seabourn 140 day cruise

What was a highlight of your Seabourn Pursuit suite?

I loved the bed, so dreamy, and the sheets just the best thread count, and the pillows, wow! But for an expedition ship the bathroom was the best and largest I have ever seen. So spacious with its twin sinks, full marble and bath and separate shower. Beautiful Moulton Brown products in large bottles for easy use, but also good for the environment as refillable. This is standard, so even lead-in has the same size bathrooms. The choice of soaps offered too was impressive. Our cabin attendants Maureen and Wandi were just amazing and our suite and that extra care was just superb feeling very spoilt that comes with ultra-luxury cruising.

A dining highlight?

I loved the Restaurant. Each night the menu would change but always had the Classic selection as an alternative. The desserts were just stunning. For me this type of dinning and the choice and wine pairing was magnificent. One of my favourites from the Classic range was grilled fillet of double tenderloin cooked to order and always perfect medium rare for me, served with spinach, green beans, potato gratin and béarnaise sauce. Followed by the mouth-watering soufflé  which changed nightly, perfectly cooked and the waiters executed delivery superbly.

seabourn 140 day cruise

Your favourite dish, snack, or meal that stands out for you that you’ll be raving about?

Caviar anywhere and anytime is a Seabourn tradition and even on expedition. It was a standout. Onboard any Seabourn cruise the caviar service is a highlight. We would have it pre-dinner by the pool or in one of the many lounges with a glass of French champagne.

And yes we have a found another secret, Chefs Tony’s Childhood Banana split! It’s only available via In-Suite Dining – thank you to the guests that told us about it on Day 6 (Kevin and Nicole!) , but it sure was a highlight. One is enough to share, just ask for two spoons.

seabourn 140 day cruise

The food and the choice of dining is what blew me away. From Sushi in The Club, Modern cuisine in The Colonnade (and open for breakfast, lunch and dinner), with a changing theme every evening, and with table service. In-Suite Dining 24-hour service, the Square, The Restaurant…. Also Ocean and Earth was showcased three nights on our sailing , where The Colonnade turns into O & E , different table settings used to go with the theme. Another highlight for us was being in the Tropics meant dinning alfresco on the back deck with new friends, under the stars.

And I can’t forget afternoon tea served in The Constellation Lounge high tea-style, served so elegantly.

Seabourn Pursuit was just perfect and had something for everyone. Also no reservation was needed anywhere on this ship for dining, anywhere! How good is that?

Your favourite itinerary experience?

There were so many highlights. All the islands truly welcomed us and you could feel there love and energy. But Ifalik Island truly stole my heart. Being welcomed by traditional dance and smiles, we explored its beauty in the morning and then by kayak in the afternoon around the island with its crystal clear waters, while spotting turtles and vibrant coral from our kayak made this afternoon just priceless. The local children, swimming and riding handmade canoes beside us, jumping off our Zodiacs when we were back onboard. What a day. Seabourn Expedition’s optional sea-kayaking is a must do!

seabourn 140 day cruise

The snorkelling was also fantastic through the coral coves, and at every opportunity we would be on our Zodiac. The onboard gear provided by Seabourn was first class, even anti fog for the masks. There are even pool noodles  for floating aids which was just perfect. Snorkelling is complimentary for everyone on Seabourn. Once you are fitted on Day 1 with flippers and a mask, and a wet bag to store and they are yours for the duration and stored in you’re personal cubby in the mud room. They use the best equipment , I also learned that currently Scuba Diving is also included with limited spaces. Well done Seabourn. You are Bourn to be in the Sea!

Your thoughts on the expedition element of the itinerary and the team?

Absolutely exceptional. The Expedition Crew are amazing. Hearing from them about nature and the wildlife, the daily briefings, how passionate they are about their chosen field.

Seabourn Pursuit is designed to have great flow, and at no time was there queues. It’s so orderly and we had a full ship, and everyone got to see and do everything.

seabourn 140 day cruise

The itinerary and what we saw was more than I expected. The places and the remoteness of where we visited was just phenomenal. It was curated perfectly, and I look back now and can’t believe what we have seen really and its in our own back yard.

These islands and the cultures are real. The dances and greetings were real. It’s the families and children and seeing how important education is and them showing us their schools and what they are learning.

How Seabourn navigated us around was perfect. We felt safe. At times we had escorts to the mountains in convoys to see the Baining fire dance and again around Honiara, but that is how travel is in these remote islands.

They may not have streetlights, so they need to make sure we were all ok too, whilst experiencing unique culture.

I loved boarding our daily Zodiacs and the whole organisation down in the mud rooms – it really is run to perfection.

seabourn 140 day cruise

The announcement over the PA in English informing us what to wear on our feet (if it’s a wet landing or dry) and hats, and how Seabourn provide sunscreen and insect repellent if need be. What to bring , the refillable water bottles on the ship that all staterooms have. Towels and walking sticks provided too for the walks on unstable ground… Seabourn really have thought of everything.

My clients were onboard, most 80 years young, and they were so happy and able to do and see it all each, snorkelling also off the zodiacs , the care and attention that each crew member gave was truly wonderful.

Something that you feel could use improvement or some fine-tuning?

Seabourn Pursuit was visiting this region for the very first time, so no criticism as they did a stellar job in my opinion. Some waters were uncharted and we navigated through just super. I loved hearing all from our Captain and the open bridge allows us a glimpse of what they do up there.

seabourn 140 day cruise

One suggestion though is handling foreign currency. When we are visiting these remote islands, I brought along US dollars and small denominations, which I always travel with, but the greenback is not king in these places. They need their local currency. Knowing this now, I wish I had bought more of their actual currency. We need to educate guests to bring the right dollars for exchange. Perhaps Seabourn could have more opportunities onboard for guests to exchange currencies. We did have an opportunity on the first day in Papua New Guinea when a bank was briefly set up on the ship, but it wasn’t repeated. Other than that bugbear, Seabourn are exceptional. The care and detail is in everything.

And the type of client will you be recommending Seabourn Expedition to?

Seabourn Expedition is open to all ages. People who want to experience these remote places, you need the best team behind you and the opportunities that expedition can take you to and Seabourn has it all.

It’s also perfect for generational travel so yes bring the grand teens, create those lasting memories.

I personally can’t wait to sell more of this and spread the word how good traveling like this is to all my clients. This is extraordinary and the team onboard, and let’s be honest, when you are miles from anywhere you need a full team and the right medical equipment so you can feel safe.

seabourn 140 day cruise

It’s ultra- luxury but so enjoyable and at no time do you need a black tie! She is perfect for anyone that is interested in culture and nature and seeing the world’s most remote places. So yes, Seabourn Pursuit is made for you!

This ship even had nightly entertainment with shows, singers and a band. We danced on the back deck. I enjoyed reading the daily Herald with the times and run down, trivia times and fun bago game with Dave our wonderful Cruise Director.

So for people that think expedition is boring and its only about lectures, its most definitely NOT. There is so much to do. Fourteen days onboard and I still didn’t get to do everything. We were busy and active but also had an immersive cultural experience.

Summing up, I was a guest on this fabulous famil and I was so impressed with the itinerary. When I was asked in January I invited clients to join me, and they did, so it was enjoyable working and travelling.

I sure love what I do!
