Tours take riders on an adventure through the park’s hard-surface trail system to enjoy breathtaking scenery. Segways are environmentally friendly — no gas, no fumes, and almost no noise. Plus, they’re easy to learn and fun to ride.

Guided Segway Tours available daily at 9:30 am, 12:30 pm, 3:30 pm. Please register online at the link below. Segway Learning Experience available first come, first served and based on availability. 

Guided Segway Tours | $45 per person 90-minute guided tour through the park; advance registration required.

Segway Learning Experience | $20 per person 45-minute learning experience – Video demo and parking lot practice. Ideal for guests who want to get a feel for riding a Segway. Registration not required; based on availability.

Safety Information

All Segway riders must wear a helmet and closed-toed shoes at all times. Riders must be at least 16 years of age. Rides under the age of 18 require written parental consent. Segway tours are not appropriate for those with injuries, those under the influence of alcohol, or those who are pregnant. Riders must weigh between 100 – 260 lbs. Closed toe shoes must be worn at all times, and flip flops and heels are not permitted.

Booking a Segway Tour in Zurich

It’s best to book a segway tour online, preferably a few days in advance so that you have a guaranteed spot. It’s usually enough to book it just the previous day, but if you’re visiting during peak tourist season, things can get a bit hectic. I recommend booking the tour on the official website of Zurich’s tourism office , simply because you will get the best deal possible.

It’s perfectly possible to book a guided city tour at one of the dozens of partnering websites like Viator, GetYourGuide, and others, but keep in mind that these services operate on commission and that you’ll always pay more if you book with them instead of the tour operator directly.

Other Important Things to Know

The minimum age for a segway tour of Zurich is 16 years. Different operators can have different age requirements in place, and this is the minimum age for the Segway City Tours Switzerland company. If you book a tour with someone else, double-check their age requirements.

You need to weigh less than 120 kg (265 lbs) to be eligible to go on a segway tour. Although tour operators usually don’t have a minimum weight limit, the manufacturer of Segway states that a person needs to weigh at least 45 kg (100 lbs) to be able to ride safely on a segway.

Great tour! We did the Monday morning Riverfront tour for our 26th Anniversary. The tour guide was very knowledgeable. We brought our own helmets and ear buds. The audio was great, you might get a little wind noise from time to time. Will most likely come back and do some of the other tours.

During the tour, you will receive your own Segway and ride through the city on roads and sidewalks along with our tour guides. It is the best way to see the historical landmarks and sights, up close and personal.

Our Galveston tours are an adventure of a lifetime, the most entertaining way to start your vacation! Touring the city on a Segway is so much fun! Anyone over 70 lbs. can easily ride one.

Along the way, you’ll naturally become an attraction yourself, which adds to all the fun.

The Segway is one of the most fun and innovative modes of human transportation. They use an advanced computer-controlled gyroscopes system that allows riders to propel and pace themselves without having to stop and get off if they want a better view.

Segways can be ridden just as safely on roads as sidewalks, and you will ride on all of our Galveston tours.

About Our Tour Guides

Our highly trained professional tour guides will teach you how to comfortably ride a Segway before escorting you around the city.

Safety is our top priority for riders as well as pedestrians and motorists. Your 30-minute training will include a video along with hands-on assistance while you practice inside our office training area.

Once everyone is comfortable operating their Segway, we venture out into the city. The speed never exceeds 8 miles per hour. Also, every rider signs a waiver and insurance form.

Anyone under 18 years of age must be signed for and accompanied on the tour by a parent or guardian. Once you get used to it, you will see how easily Segways move, just by adjusting your body weight.

They can stop instantly when necessary, so riders and pedestrians can safely traverse the same walkways without any problems.

You will be fitted with head protection. When it starts getting dark, there’re lights in the front and back along with fluorescent gear so that you can be easily seen.

We also train you on street safety since we will be crossing several major streets during our tour. Everyone will stay in formation, yielding to traffic and obeying traffic signs and laws.

You will be taught how to slow down to a “walking speed” when approaching pedestrians and move to the right when you see oncoming foot traffic.

It may sound tedious, but learning to ride a Segway is not only fun, but it’s also an exhilarating once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Segway Galveston offers several different guided tours throughout the year. We seek to accommodate all riders while adjusting according to the season:

The Magical History Tour

This 2-hour 30-minute tour illuminates the history of Galveston’s divers. We’ll also take you to see the most notable Victorian homes, according to the East End Historic District Association.

You will traverse the incredible Strand, which was made famous by Dickens’ On The Strand. You will also see tour the Oprah House, Bishop’s Palace, and Moody Mention.

The tour also includes the Port of Galveston, where you will see Elissa, the first Tall Ship of Texas, and the amazing Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum, situated on top of a retired jack-up drilling rig. This museum is so interesting and even exciting!

The Seawall Cruise & The Segway Experience

This is a 1-hour 30-minute tour that allows you to experience the fun of riding a Segway through Galveston without bothering with the city’s history. The tour is mainly on the Seawall and takes in Hotel Galvez, The Murdoch’s, Pleasure Pier, and Pier 21, all fascinating destinations.

The Rat Pack Tour is a great 2-hour tour that will guide you on a historical journey. You’ll see the places where many actors like Frank Sinatra and Al Capone lived and performed.

During this time, you’ll check in, get fitted with a helmet, meet your guide and fellow group members, and learn the ins and outs of using a Segway. Then, you’ll embark on your adventure.

In just a few minutes and without breaking a sweat, you'll have navigated your way to Trajan's Column. Standing at 100 feet (not including its base), Trajan's Column is undoubtedly an artistic masterpiece, and thanks to your speedy journey, you'll have plenty of time to admire Trajan Market, a marvel of ancient Roman architecture. As one of the ancient world's earliest examples of a shopping mall, the market offers a fascinating peek into ancient Roman life.

Relive Gladiatorial Battles and Imperial Forums

Having explored the legacies of Emperor Trajan, you’ll continue to Via dei Fori Imperiali. Opened in 1932, Via dei Fori Imperiali is not just one of Rome's most scenic streets but also offers a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Rome. We’ll guide you on one of the most exhilarating and picturesque ways to experience over 220 rolling acres of mountain terrain. Our three-mile Segway Tour lasts 75-90 minutes, includes training and is fun for the entire family!

Segway Tours meet at Mountainside Outfitters located in the skier services building to the left of the main lodge.

• Guide gratuity is always acceptable.
• Operators must obey the instructions of the tour guide.
• Operators of a Segway must be of a minimum body weight of 100 pounds and a maximum body weight of 260 pounds and have no health-related condition such as heart problems, pregnancy, broken bones, recent surgery or illness, balance disorders, or epilepsy that would prevent the safe operation of the Segway.
• You must be at least 14 years of age.
• Operators of a Segway must wear the protective helmet provided to him or her and have it fastened at all times when operating the Segway.
• Closed-toed shoes with laces are required. No heels, sandals, clogs, Crocs, or flip flops. No bare feet.
• No loose clothing is permitted. Wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.
• No loose objects are permitted on your person. Cameras and cell phones must be secured or put away.
• Operators may not board or attempt to board Segway if he or she is under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance which impacts his or her ability to safely use the Segway and abide by the posted and oral instructions of the tour guide.
• Operators of a Segway must be considerate of fellow riders and pedestrians.
• Operators may not submerge in or otherwise expose the Segway to water.
• Operator will receive basic instruction concerning the use and operation of the Segway.

Where are you located.

Segway Tours at Chestnut Mountain Resort are located on 220 acres with a fabulous view of the Mississippi River located in the Midwest region of northwestern Illinois.

What is a Segway?

It’s a 2-wheeled, self-balancing personal transporter. To move forward or backward on the Segway, the rider just leans slightly forward or backward. To turn left or right, the rider simply moves the LeanSteer® frame left or right. You get the sense of power and speed, yet you also feel a sense of safety and absolute control. It all feels natural, safe, and instinctive. Segway X2® is a durable off-road machine that is ready to navigate varied terrain with minimal environmental impact.

Do I need to make a reservation?

We highly recommend that you reserve your adventure in advance, as there are a limited number of Segway X2s® and tours can sell out on any given day. You can make a reservation by phone at 815.777.4668.

Our reservation line voicemail is always available, and calls will be returned promptly during operational hours, however, leaving a message does not ensure a reservation.

You will need to pay full amount at the reservation time.

What time do I need to arrive?

As the Segway Tours can be sold out on any given day, it is vital to arrive on time for the start of your adventure (we recommend that you arrive a half hour prior to your reservation time). If you arrive late and miss your session, or cancel on the day, there are no refunds. We will attempt to put you into a later time slot if available but there is no guarantee. Arriving early allows for a relaxed start to your adventure. Factor in extra time for driving to Chestnut Mountain Resort, parking, getting to the Welcome Center, completing the necessary paperwork, visiting our retail store and making use of our facilities.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement. No open toed or open back shoes. Flat shoes are strongly recommended.

Will I need a helmet?

Helmets will be required and included in the tour cost. We use standard bicycle helmets. If you prefer to bring your own, it will be subject to a pass/fail inspection by our guides.

Are there any age, height or weight restrictions?

Participants must be over 14 years of age, and weigh between 100 and 260 lbs. There are no height restrictions. Guests between the ages of 14 and 15 (inclusive) must have a participating parent/guardian on the tour.

Is there any paperwork to fill out?

Whenever you are able to have to this much fun, there is always paperwork to fill out. All participants must complete a Release of Liability prior to beginning the adventure. A signature from a parent/guardian is required for all participants under 18 years of age. If a minor is coming to Chestnut Mountain Resort without a parent/guardian, the liability release must be signed and notarized. Liability releases can be downloaded from the website.

Can I bring my camera/camcorder?

Yes you can! Each Segway has a travel pouch to carry your equipment. The tour will make stops to provide you with photo and video opportunities. The Mountainside Outfitter retail shop offers GoPro video cameras with helmet mounts.

Can I carry a backpack, fanny-pack or pocketbook?

No. Each Segway X2 is equipped with a travel pouch to carry small items. Any pack that you may wear or strap on yourself could interfere with your balance and the Segway operation.

Is there a guide with you on the tour?

You will receive a safety briefing and training from one of our Segway Guides before you begin. The Segway Guide will accompany you on the tour to ensure that you are operating the equipment properly and safely, guide you around the resort property and highlight points of interest.

How long does the Segway Tour take?

The tour is comprised of a 15-minute training video, followed by a demonstration of the Segway operation and about a half hour of hands-on driver training. This is followed by one hour of pure fun as you transport yourself around Chestnut Mountain.

What happens in bad weather?

We will not operate the Segway Tour in extreme weather conditions; moderate weather conditions do not affect operations. Our Mountainside Outfitters Staff will contact you if we have advanced notice of extreme weather and need to reschedule. If the weather is marginal, please call us for a status update. Do not assume we have cancelled the tour if you have bad weather where you are, we may have sunny skies!

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel your Segway Tour by calling the Mountainside Outfitters reservation line at 815.777.4668. The policy reads:

Cancellation 48 hours or more prior to Adventure – Full Refund.

Cancellation less than 48 hours prior to Adventure – Chestnut Gift Card for amount.

No call cancellation or no show- Loss of Payment.

Sometimes, unfortunately, we might need to close the course for reasons beyond our control. If you have already started the course you will not be entitled to any refund (in part or in whole). We will do our best to offer alternative dates or times at reduced rates.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome at Chestnut Mountain Resort but must be supervised and remain on the leash at all times. You must clean up after your dog while on resort property. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed on the Segway tour for safety reasons.

Different routes can be chosen for a city tour with the Segway. The tour glides easily through the Old Town past the most important sights, such as Freiberg's Cathedral of St. Mary and Freudenstein Castle. Depending on the length of the tour, you can go as far as Herder 's Ruh, the silver mine or the Freiberg Mulde river. During the various tours you can enjoy magnificent views over the roofs of Freiberg or discover historical buildings and monuments.

Note: All tours are usually conducted in groups of up to a maximum of 7 persons and begin with a thorough introduction to the use of the Segway. Segways may be ridden by persons over the age of 14.
