Can I drink the tap water in India?

India is notorious among travelers for sickness – we’ve all heard horror stories about Delhi belly. We do not recommend ever drinking tap water in India, and travelers should avoid drinks with ice and foods that haven’t been cooked or peeled. Salad is off the menu for now – let your inner child rejoice!

What are the toilets like in India?

Squat toilets are the most common toilets in India. Always carry your own toilet paper and soap or hand sanitizer, as they are usually not provided. Flushable, Western-style toilets can be found in up-market restaurants, some higher-end hotels and in some tourist areas.

Lalbagh is one of the oldest botanical gardens in India and is also a major tourist attraction in South India. Located in South Bengaluru, the Lalbagh Botanical Garden is not only one of the largest botanical gardens in India, but also the first of its kind, with planned routes, glasshouses and ornamental flowers growing throughout the property. The garden itself is spread over an area of 240 acres and its construction was commissioned by the famous ruler Hyder Ali. It was finally completed by his son- Tipu Sultan- who designed the gardens keeping in mind the beautiful gardens of Sira in Tumkur District in Karnataka.Lalbagh is home to exotic flowers that were imported by the Sultan from countries like France, Persia, Arabia, Afghanistan, etc. Therefore, flowers that were previously never seen in India were first witnessed in this historical garden. Trees that were imported by Tipu Sultan from all over the world can still be found growing here.Apart from the exotic trees, visitors can also catch sight of some rare birds such as the Myna, pond heron, purple moorhen, parakeets, Brahminy kites, the common egret and much more. Apart from the stunning flora and fauna of the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, it has another striking attraction, which is the Lalbagh rock. This rock, which is said to be over 3000 years old, is one of the oldest rocks in the world and can be found in the center of the garden.

Brigade Road

At the intersection of MG road and Residency road lies Brigade road which is considered a shopping paradise for the city dwellers. There is a long stretch of standalone shops, individual retailers, and outlet selling almost everything you need making it one the best Bangalore sightseeing. This commercial hubs houses myriads of global brand outlets as well and it has been a hub for celebrating New Year in the almost every year.

Bangalore Palace

In the technology-driven, futuristic Silicon Valley of India, monuments of historical significance boasting of a glorious past are also abundant. The historical heritage of the city is so magnificent and eminent that it rises to prominence on its own. One such landmark is the Tudor style Bangalore Palace. The Palace is a perfect representation of the lavishness and splendour with which India's most resilient dynasties ruled. Famous for its opulent architecture and amusement activities, the Palace is visited by several visitors every day. The colossal Palace boasts of massive courtyards, bright interiors, kingly grounds, splendid spiral staircases, stately towers and a luscious garden in a proud display of posh regality.Anyone who admires classic architecture and artistry would be delighted to experience it first hand at this Palace. It also houses an amusement park in its enclave to the delight of many younger visitors. Having been a private residence to the Wodeyar family, Bangalore palace offers a linear perspective into the royal life of the forepassed era. It is plush with a vibrant and varied collection of ancient royal artefacts, paraphernalia, hunting trophies and family photos. The Palace houses some of the most famous paintings of the 19th Century, including the works of one of India's most celebrated artists Raja Ravi Verma. The Palace grounds very often become venues for concerts and festivals. World-renowned artists like Enrique and Guns N' Roses have graced the palace grounds with their talent and presence. The Palace hence combines the richness and luxury of royal history with the vivacious and exuberant demeanour of the youth. Bangalore Palace HistoryOriginally a property of Reverend J Garrett, the principal of a school in the cantonment town at that time, the area where the Palace is now located was purchased from him by the British Guardians of Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar for 40,000 rupees. The construction of the palace began in the year 1874. Mr John Cameron of Lalbagh was assigned the task of landscaping Palace along with its surroundings. The complete construction of the palace was completed in the year, 1878.The Palace saw many additions and modifications in its architecture in subsequent years. Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar added a few portions like the twin external staircase, the platform for musicians etc. outside the Durbar Hall. In 1970, HH Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar transferred ownership of the property to two companies, Chamundi Hotels and Shree Venkateshwara Real Estate Enterprises. However, this transaction was later shown to be fraudulent. A legal battle followed between this deal and Jayachamarajendra's son, Srikanta Datta. The five sisters of Srikanta Datta are now in possession of sections of the 28 acres of the Palace. In the year 1990 Srikant Datta finally compromised with the Chamaraju group and got back his part of the property including the main Palace except for 45 acres that the Chamaraju group still retains. Architecture:The Palace showcases exquisite wooden interiors surrounded by pristine walls. The Palace is enclosed within beautiful gardens. The architecture is a medley of Tudor style and Scottish style and has gothic undertones. A lot of physical artefacts inside are of British origin. It is said that the architecture of this building is inspired by that of the Windsor Castle and other architectural marvels of England and Normandy. The most prominent features of the Palace like the two-level granite structure of the fortified towers and turreted parapets take direct inspiration from the Tudor building styles. The entrance is decorated with grand Roman arches. The exterior of the building is covered in eccentric shapes and angles. The exterior walls are of a blushing cinnabar shade that gives the building a quaint Victorian vibe. The floor of the open courtyard of the Palace is adorned with granite seats covered with azure ceramic tiles. The ground floor also contains a beautifully decorated ballroom. The first floor of the Palace has a distinct chamber known as the Durbar Hall attached to an ornate staircase. This hall is famous for the enormous elephant head that is mounted in it and its gothic style tinted glass windows.

Popular south india tour packages, south india tour packages faqs.

Q. What are the places to be visited on a South India tour? A. When sorting through South India packages, make sure your research is complete and you have shortlisted some of its most stunning destinations. A stay in Karnataka can include a couple of nights in Bangalore, its green, bustling capital before proceeding to Coorg for a few days at a coffee estate. On your return you can stay a night or two in Mysore. Another idea is to proceed to Wayanad from Coorg before returning to Bangalore or continuing further into Kerala. You can club a Tamil Nadu and Kerala visit, by arriving in Chennai and continuing to Pondicherry and then to Madurai. Stay for a couple of days in Madurai to see its iconic temples including the Meenakshi Amman Temple and keep a day aside for Rameswaram known for the Ramanathaswamy Temple and the frontier town of Dhanushkodi. From Madurai you can proceed to Periyar National Park in Kerala, then travel further uphill to Munnar. From Munnar you can drive down to Kochi, then to Alleppey, Kollam on a houseboat before continuing to Kovalam. Spend a day in Trivandrum, see its temples and museums and take a flight out of there. Q. What are the most famous beaches in South India? A. Prior to closing one of the South India tour packages, be sure that it incorporates some of the best beaches in the region. A beach holiday in South India is incomplete if it does not involve a stay in the erstwhile French town of Pondicherry. Pondicherry’s Promenade Beach although rocky has an aura of its own and is also where the whole town meets in the evenings when the thoroughfare is closed to traffic and one can stroll on it, eat an ice-cream and watch a gorgeous sunset. Auroville Beach and Paradise Beach are its other pristine beaches perfect for lazing around or wave surfing. Kovalam Beach in Kerala is among its most famous beaches. The rocky promontory with its lighthouse lends it a picture-postcard quality. Visit Mahabalipuram for the shore temples from the Pallava dynasty. The rock-cut shore temples are iconic to Mahabalipuram and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kanyakumari Beach is another significant beach you should round up on your South India tour. It is where the waters of the three oceans - Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean - that make up the Indian peninsula merge. There are boats leaving from it to the nearby Vivekananda Rock Memorial. The beach is bustling with souvenir shops and little eateries and houses the temple dedicated to the deity after which it is named, Kumari Amman. Q. What are the popular hill stations in South India? A. If you are going through South India holiday packages with the idea of rounding up some of its serene hill stations, you need to make sure it incorporates the below mentioned destinations. Tamil Nadu has its share of some very atmospheric hill stations such as Kodaikanal, Conoor and Ooty with the British-built Nilgiri Mountain Railway ascending the hills and passing through tunnels, offering you a ride you would remember for time to come. In Kerala you can visit Wayanad and Munnar and enjoy a breathtaking tea garden stay. Karnataka’s most popular hill retreat is Coorg which is home to its tallest peak Tadiandamole and a stay amid a coffee and spice estate. Among other popular hill stations across South India, you can travel to Yercaud, Yelagiri and Valparai in Tamil Nadu, Thekkady, Athirapally, Ponmudi in Kerala, Chikmagalur, Sakleshpur in Karnataka, Araku Valley, Horsley Hills, Tirumala that houses the iconic Tirumala Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh. Q. Which is the nearest airport to Hampi? A. To reach Hampi by air, you need to take a flight to Belgaum airport, which is located 270 km away and it takes about 6 hours drive. Belgaum is served by frequent flight connectivity from Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Jabalpur airports. Another nearest airport to Hampi is in Bengaluru, which has air connectivity from all parts of India. The airport approximately 350 km from Hampi and can be reached in a journey of six and a half hours. Q. When should I plan my trip to Kerala? A. Kerala being one of the most popular destinations in the south has something to offer all year round. However, the tourist season in Kerala starts from September and continues till April. The peak season is when the weather is slightly cooler and dry from December through February. If you are looking for Ayurveda treatments, monsoon is the best time to receive the therapeutic treatments. The cool, moist and crisp atmosphere helps the body open up its pores and, making it receptive to herbal oils and therapies. The rainy season is also an excellent time to find good hotel deals from May to September. Also, plan your trip when the state celebrates its festivals, June-September for snake boat races,  the state festival Onam between August to September, and elephant festivals ranging from January to May. Q. Is there a dress code to enter temples in South India? A. Temples like Padmanabhaswamy Temple have a strict dress code where men need to wear mundu or dhoti and should not wear shirts of any kind. Women need to wear a sari, churidar or a South Indian half sari. Tirupati Temple advises wearing traditional clothes or proper attire. In most cases, men can enter with a pant-trouser outfit and just can just put a dhoti over their trousers where required for the visit. Children are also expected to wear fully-covered clothes. Q. Which are the popular honeymoon destinations in South India? A. The hills of Ooty and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu, the jungles of Coorg in Karnataka and Thekkady in Kerala, the backwaters of Alleppey and Kumarakom or the tea town of Munnar in Kerala are some of the most romantic destinations for a newly married couple. These are mostly hilly destinations with scenic beauty and peaceful surrounding providing the much-needed solitude. Q. Are cameras allowed inside the temples in South India? A. Most temples in South India don’t allow cameras inside its premise although cell phones are allowed. The next day you can head to Pondicherry. Q. How to pack for my South India tour? A. Temperature is much warmer in South India. Where You'll Stay

Operated by intrepid travel.

Back in 1989, two guys from Melbourne, Australia by the names of Darrell and Manch set off on an adventure to the other side of the world. They travelled to Africa and without air conditioning on their modified truck, they filled it with supplies, some beer, a bunch of aviator sunglasses, and some friends. On that trip, they came up with the idea that perhaps others may be interested in this style of travel too. Just like that, Intrepid was born. Intrepid has come a long way since then, now giving over 100,000 travelers a year the opportunity to experience small group travel across all 7 continents. They use local transport, sleep in local accommodation from Cambodian stilt houses to Moroccan riads, and employ 100% local leaders. With three different travel styles including basix, original and comfort, themes ranging from cycling trips to family holidays, and itineraries crafted with the perfect balance of must-see sights and free time, Intrepid caters to every type of traveller no matter their age, budget or travel style. The company has grown but their mission remains the same: to change the way people see the world through sustainable, experience-rich travel

FAQs for Cultural Tour Packages

Q. what do you mean by cultural tour packages.

India has an extremely rich & diverse culture with several cuisines, festivals, religions, languages, dresses and customs. It is also dotted with the most magnificent monuments, temples, caves, bathing ghats & other historical structures found anywhere in the world.

One way of getting an insight into this rich culture of India is visiting its historical structures. Our Cultural Tour Packages give you an insight into the rich culture of India by covering destinations that are renowned for their monuments, temples & other structures built in the past. During these tours, you are also provided the opportunity of exploring the markets, interacting with the locals, trying the local delicacies and other various activities that give you an idea of the culture of the particular destination you happen to be visiting.

Q. I am interested in Indian festivals, when should I come to experience some popular ones?

India is a large country with 29 states. Some festivals are celebrated in a large part of the country, while the others are celebrated in the other part. There are some festivals which are celebrated exclusively in one state, region or province, and not in the others. So, you must plan your trip according to the festival, or festivals, you wish to experience.

For example, if you want to enjoy the lights and crackers associated with the Diwali festival, plan your trip to India between October-November. If you want to be a part of Holi, the festival of colours, plan your trip to India in late-February to March. You can experience Onam, a very famous festival celebrated in Kerala (South India), marked by the traditional boat race called Vallam Kali, between August-September. Another famous festival called Hampi Utsav, is celebrated in November every year.

Northeast India also has several festivals which are celebrated in each state at different times of the year. For example, the famous Nagaland Hornbill Festival is celebrated in Nagaland in December every year. The festival of Bihu in Assam, which is marked by beautifully synchronised folk dances, folk music, competitions and various activities, is held in April every year. And, if you want to witness and be a part of one of the biggest music festivals in India, the Ziro Music Festival, plan your trip in September.

Of course, if you are spending your holidays in a part of India where the date coincides with a famous festival there, that’s great. Go ahead and be a part of it!
