The Tour Championship 2023: Schedule, TV, Live Stream, Venue, and Seeds

The season-ending championship event of the South Africa-based Sunshine Tour is here once again. The 2022-23 season concluding event is announced to take place this April 20 th .

The Tour Championship is a popular golf tournament that has been acting as the season-ending event of the Sunshine Tour since 2018. This year will mark the 5 th official iteration of the event.

Upcoming Tour Championship 2023 will take place at the 18-hole golf course at Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate like the previous years. It will be a stroke play-based event on 72-par. The competition will be held over four rounds.

This year’s Sunshine Tour season finale will feature a 45-player field. Only the top-class professionals of this South African tournament are qualified to participate in the event. They will compete for an R2,000,000 purse.

2022-23 Sunshine Tour season’s final event the Tour Championship is scheduled to start on Thursday, April 20, 2023. The first round of this event will start with participants teeing off at 02:00 a.m. ET.

R1-million for Waterfall City winner

The Sunshine Tour will tee off its 2024-25 season with the new Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq that will feature a field of champions throughout South African golf all chasing a first prize of R1-million.

The tournament, to be played at Royal Johannesburg Golf Club’s East Championship Course from 2-5 May and with live coverage on SuperSport, will include a field of champions comprised largely of winners of Sunshine Tour events during the 2023-24 season.

The field will also include:

• The winner of the 2023-24 Sunshine Tour Order of Merit delivered by the Courier Guy.
• The 2023-24 Fortress Rookie of the Year.
• The leading Papwa Sewgolum Class player from the 2023-24 Sunshine Tour Order of Merit delivered by the Courier Guy not otherwise exempt.
• South African Winners of international tournaments held outside of the borders of South Africa from 1 January 2023 until the Waterfall City Tournament of Champions powered by Attacq.
• The winner of the 2024 Sunshine Ladies Tour Order of Merit.
• Sunshine Ladies Tour winners from 2024.
• The winner of the 2023 Altron Big Easy Tour Order of Merit.
• The winner of the 2024 African Amateur.
• The leading amateur from the GolfRSA Order of Merit, as nominated by GolfRSA.
• Five wild card entries

Sunshine Tour number ones shining on the DP World Tour 

The SDC Championship marks the first of two back-to-back co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour on the DP World Tour schedule in 2023.

The partnership between the two Tours has helped play an integral role in the development of many South African players, including a raft of Major Champions and proven DP World Tour winners.

Ahead of the 2022 DP World Tour season, JC Ritchie became the first player to secure full playing privileges on the DP World Tour by finishing as the leading player, not otherwise exempt, on the Sunshine Tour’s Order of Merit.

Last year, Daniel van Tonder, Tristen Strydom and Wilco Nienaber benefited from a new exemption for the leading three players, not otherwise exempt, from the 2022 Sunshine Tour rankings.

As St Francis Links prepares to host the fifth of six co-sanctioned events between the DP World Tour and the Sunshine Tour, we look at three players who have topped the latter’s Order of Merit and how their careers have progressed.

George Coetzee

Made his DP World Tour debut at the South African Open as a 19-year-old amateur in 2005. After turning professional in 2007, he joined the Sunshine Tour and went on to claim his first professional title in his rookie season at the Vodacom Origins of Golf – Selborne. He secured his DP World Tour card for the 2010 season through the Qualifying School but lost it later that year. After regaining his playing privileges through Qualifying School for the 2011 campaign, he narrowly missed out on a maiden DP World Tour title at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles as he lost to Thomas Bjørn in a play-off. Three other top-five finishes would help him secure a maiden appearance at the DP World Tour Championship. In 2012, he broke into the top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time after a runner-up finish at the SA Open Championship. He claimed his maiden DP World Tour title on home soil at the Joburg Open, coming back from four shots adrift in the final round to win. Two titles in the space of three months in 2015 at the Tshwane Open and the inaugural AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open helped him to win the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit that season. Three years later he won the Tshwane Open for a second time before his first DP World Tour win in mainland Europe came at the 2020 Portugal Masters. Since then, a third-place finish at the Cazoo Open de France last September has been the closest he has come to adding to those wins.

Brandon Stone

The 29-year-old is no stranger to success, with three DP World Tour wins to his name since he graduated from the European Challenge Tour in 2015. His breakthrough success came early in 2016, winning the South African Open on his 27th start on the DP World Tour. He added another later that year, again on home soil, by recording a seven-shot victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship as he finished top of the Sunshine Tour Order of Merit. His biggest achievement to date remains his victory at the Scottish Open in 2018. A final round of 60 – where he missed a birdie chance on the last to card a 59 – saw him claim his third DP World Tour win and first Rolex Series title. A near three-year absence from the winner’s circle followed before he won his first Challenge Tour title at the Limpopo Challenge in a four-man play-off in 2021. Since losing his full playing privileges on the DP World Tour at the end of the 2022 season, he has registered four top tens on the Challenge Tour this year to sit ninth on the Road to Mallorca Rankings.

Zander Lombard

After turning professional in 2014, he initially struggled to acclimatise to the professional game, making just one cut from 12 events across the European Challenge Tour and DP World Tour in 2015 but far better was to come. He started 2016 with three top tens from four events, earning himself a Major Championship debut at The Open courtesy of finishing second at the Joburg Open as he established himself on Tour. He came close to a breakthrough DP World Tour title at the 2017 Rocco Forte Open but lost out to Alvaro Quiros in a play-off. A joint winner of the DP World Tour’s Qualifying School in 2018, he has since held full playing privileges for the last four years. He again narrowly missed out on his elusive first DP World Tour title at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship last month, finishing one shot behind winner Daniel Gavins in the Middle East. The 28-year-old topped his native Order of Merit in 2019 as he won the Vodacom Origins – Zebula and added three further top fives.

What is your cancellation policy.

Customer Cancellations: Must be requested via calling or emailing no less than 48hrs before trip departure for a full refund. No shows or late arrivals will be charged the full ticket price.

Weather Cancellations : If your trip’s departure may be impacted by weather, our captains will reach out via text and email with as much advance notice as possible. Should the trip be canceled, guests are entitled to be refunded, rebooked, or receive a gift card in accordance with the cancellation policy associated with their ticket.

Is there a bathroom on board?

Yes there is a restroom on board that is cleaned and sanitized daily!

What time should we arrive?

Please plan to arrive no later than 20 minutes prior to your scheduled departure for boarding.

Is there parking available?

Yes! We have designated free parking for all of our customers.

Are we allowed to bring food?

Yes! Guests are more than welcome to bring their own snacks or light fare.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

For insurance purposes, outside alcohol is not permitted and may be confiscated for the duration of your trip. Don’t worry, our bar will be fully stocked!

What is available at the bar?

Our bar features a small selection of water, soda, beer, wine, and RTD Cocktails: $1 Water; $3 Coke, Sprite, Diet Coke; Michelob Ultra; $7 Corona, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Moscato, NUTRL Vodka Seltzer, Cutwater Mojito.

How do we get off at the beach?

For our island stops, we use a series of steps from the front of our boat to the sand. Typically, you can step right from the boat/steps to the sand. However, on occasion, it may be up to ankle deep.

What should we wear?

Comfort is key! Swimming is discouraged during the island stop due to strong tidal currents. Guests are encouraged to dress as they feel comfortable for their evening with easily removable shoes for their walk on the beach. Keep in mind, being on the water in the evening is about 10 degrees colder than is forecasted, so a windbreaker or light jacket is always safe.

Is your vessel handicap accessible?

Unfortunately we are not handicap accessible at this time. Guests with limited mobility (i.e. walkers, canes) should call our office prior to booking. A good rule of thumb is if the limited mobility passenger is able to make it up 2-3 standard stairs with assistance. Our crew is always here to help and eager to share our memorable trip with all!

The City of St. Petersburg is excited to celebrate the holiday season! The annual Holidays in the Sunshine City offers holiday happenings and festive fun for all ages.

Santa Parade & Tree Lighting

• Saturday, November 25
• Downtown St. Petersburg

Join us for an evening of fun as we kick off the holiday season with St. Pete's 95th Annual Santa Parade and Tree Lighting !

The Santa Parade begins at 6:30 PM at Albert Whitted Park and runs along Bayshore Dr. to 5th Ave. NE. The Tree Lighting immediately follows the parade in North Straub Park. Tree Lighting time is based on when the parade ends.

Please note: Santa will be getting off at North Straub Park during the parade in preparation for the Tree Lighting that follows the parade.
