Themed swimming pools in campsites, hotels and resorts: an investment for tourism success

Tangible benefits that translate into higher occupancy rates and greater return on investment..

Themed swimming pools in campsites, hotels and resorts: an investment for tourism success

Several decades ago, the need emerged for strategic investments that would allow developers, investors and owners of hotels, resorts and campsites to differentiate their offerings in the increasingly competitive tourism market. Amusement Logic responded at that time with a new, pioneering concept : themed pools . The company created such a water attraction and during its more than 25 years of existence designed and developed innovative construction techniques for numerous projects all over the world. Today the company still offers what is a solution to reinforce the attractiveness and profitability of any holiday destination .

Themed swimming pools in campsites, hotels and resorts: an investment for tourism success 02

Strategic value of themed pools

Themed pools not only add landscape value to a tourist complex , be it a campsite, a hotel or a resort, but often also enhance its status as a holiday destination . Over the years, it has become clear that the criteria tourists and travellers use when choosing a destination for their holidays very often include whether or not it has these water facilities .

Themed swimming pools in campsites, hotels and resorts: an investment for tourism success 03

After all, a themed pool is an attraction in itself; after all, it provides memorable experiences for guests and tourists; after all, if they are travelling with children, themed pools offer an ideal setting for fun , with specific water games for the youngsters and the youngest members of the family.

Themed swimming pools in campsites, hotels and resorts: an investment for tourism success 04

So, as we can see, themed pools offer tangible benefits that translate into higher occupancy rates and therefore a higher return on investment.

Design and conceptualisation of themed pools

But behind every themed pool there is a careful design and conceptualisation process. From the identification and choice of a sufficiently attractive theme , to the integration of elements such as waterfalls, relaxing corners, caves, hydrotherapy, water jets, slides, and a long etcetera; from its size, or the fact that it occupies two levels of land, to the geometry of the pool basin ; each of these details are decided for each project, so that the themed pool is unique and unrepeatable . This transforms the visions of developers, investors and owners of campsites, hotels and resorts into realities that captivate and delight guests, travellers and tourists.

Themed swimming pools in campsites, hotels and resorts: an investment for tourism success 05

Profitability and return on investment

Through case studies and data analysis , each themed pool project is examined to ensure that it becomes a factor in the long-term profitability of the tourism establishment, whether it is a beachside or mountain campsite, a conventional hotel or resort, or an all-inclusive. In this case, issues such as increasing room rates , upgrading , marketing or boosting food and beverage sales are considered. It should not be forgotten that these are strategic investments that must deliver tangible financial benefits.

Themed swimming pools in campsites, hotels and resorts: an investment for tourism success 06

Trends and the future of the tourism sector and themed pools

In a constantly evolving and growing tourism market , it is crucial for tourist centres , hotels , resorts and campsites to keep up with the latest trends and the ever-increasing demands of guests, travellers and tourists . That is why Amusement Logic keeps a close eye on emerging trends and responds to them with the design and construction of themed swimming pools . And, of course, with recourse to new technologies , not only to create unique aquatic spaces , landscapes to be lived and experienced, offering beauty, fun and relaxation, but also to make them more efficient and sustainable , without losing a step in innovation and environmental awareness .

  • 7 sensational swimming pools in Vietnam

All photography by Christian Berg

What’s a holiday in Vietnam without long hours by the pool? We can’t think of a better way to spend time than luxuriating on a lounger, sipping coconuts, reading books, and reveling in blue skies, in between refreshing swims, of course! For pool lovers on the hunt, here are seven outstanding swimming pools from all over Vietnam. Dive in!

Best for laps: intercontinental danang sun peninsula resort, da nang.

With a name like The L_o_n_g Pool, you might come to the signature pool at the Intercontinental in Da Nang with some expectations. Rest assured, they’ll be met. Not only is the pool long, it’s also lush, with striped blue loungers set on private platforms over the water, a separate Jacuzzi pool, and sweeping views of the beach and its calm, turquoise water. Claim a spot and relax with the jungle sounds and fresh breezes off Son Tra Peninsula.

Best for epic views: Topas Ecolodge, Sapa

The two mountaintop pools at Topas Ecolodge redefine the term ‘infinity pool.’ Instead of dropping off into an ocean setting, the blue of the water blends into the sky above the peaks of the Hoang Lien National Park. The photogenic upper pool is heated via eco-friendly technology, while the lower adult-only pool comes with a Jacuzzi. You may spend longer than expected sidling up to the edge and feasting your eyes on dramatic landscapes -- not a bad thing!

Best for beachside luxury: The Four Seasons Nam Hai, Hoi An

Three tiers of tempting infinity pools await at The Four Seasons Nam Hai . Wondering which one to try first? We recommend the Beachfront Pool, also known as the Purple Pool, an Olympic-sized oasis surrounded by plush brown loungers and shaded by tall palms. Let your troubles melt away as you soak up the brilliant blues of the East Sea. If you’re feeling peckish, mouthwatering Vietnamese bites await at La Sen Restaurant nearby.

Best for escaping into nature: Amanoi, Ninh Thuan

Some pools are all about the views, and that’s the truth at Amanoi in Central Vietnam. While this five-star sanctuary offers another infinity pool on its cliffs, the 50-metre infinity pool at its Beach Club showcases the rugged coastline of Ninh Thuan and Vinh Hy Bay to full advantage. Swims here are heightened by the sight of wild birds, fishing boats, and rocky boulders, adding an unforgettable sense of place.

Best for family fun: Intercontinental Phu Quoc Long Beach, Phu Quoc

The Intercontinental Resort in Phu Quoc gives guests a choice of four pools, but the Vista Pool is our favourite of the lot. Vine-covered cabanas with daybeds create the perfect haven to relax, perhaps with afternoon tea or a scoop of the resort’s homemade ice-cream, and sun loungers float above the water, shrouded by flowering shrubs and greenery. Sea breezes coming off Long Beach rustle the palms overhead, creating a soothing soundtrack for long, leisurely hours.

Best for classic poolside vibes: Victoria Hoi An Resort & Spa, Hoi An

This Indochine-inspired beach resort in Hoi An is a long-time favourite among travellers. In no small part due to the pool. Victoria ’s pool is the centre point of the property, beautifully framed by palms and backdropped by the waves and Cham Islands on the horizon. The classic blue and white theme echoes a graceful, bygone era of travel, and from inside the pool, the sea views are simply stunning.

Best for tropical bliss: JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, Phu Quoc

You may have seen pictures of the Shell Pool at the JW Marriott in Phu Quoc , but for real water babies, the resort’s glorious Sand Pool -- overlooking a pristine sweep of Khem Beach -- is where it’s at. Like everything in this beachside wonderland designed by Bill Bensley, the swimming pool is a fanciful and luxurious experience, but it’s the tropical touches, frangipani trees, and flowering bushes that make swimming here simply delightful.

The public swimming pool with fresh water, measuring 33.33 x 25.0 m, is made of stainless steel. The use of stainless steel in the design and construction of swimming pools has many advantages over other materials that have been used traditionally. Its use requires much less chemicals to maintain the hygiene and safety standards, and it has a long service life.

The swimming pool has a movable floor with a width of 3 lanes and a length of 25.0 m, which can be lowered to the maximum depth of the pool at 2.0 m, and lifted to the zero point. The movable floor increases the flexibility and functionality of the swimming pool for various purposes, as it allows for several activities to take place in a single swimming pool tank at the same time and at different depths.

In addition, the swimming pool is equipped with a leading safety system for detection and protection of its users against drowning, AngelEye View. This is an innovative software technology where patented underwater cameras detect all movement of users and send notifications to security personnel in the event of an accident.

The Rovinj-Rovigno municipal swimming pool is open to the public according to the following schedule: - in the morning from Monday to Friday > 8:30 - 13:00, - in the afternoon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays > 20:30 – 22:00, - on Saturdays > 12:00 – 21:00.

It was opened in 1929 and has always been home to large-scale aquatic sports competitions . It's also known for being one of the venues for the 1992 Olympic Games . Locals don't just appreciate it for this, but also the stunning landscape views over the city. There are two pools one for diving and another large 25m pool for swimming freely.

Diving board at Montjuic in Barcelona

The facility is located on Avenida de Miramar, 31 and opens daily from 11:00 to 18.30 . The most convenient way to get to the pool is taking the 55 bus from Plaça de Catalunya. Entry is €5.63 for adults and €3.93 for children (6 - 14) and seniors (64+) . Under 5s go free.

4. Fòrum Bathing Area - El Besòs i el Maresme

Banys del Forum Barcelona

This option is a little different, Banys del Fòrum take advantage of the sea and is a section of the coastline cordoned for swimming in the salt water . It can be found in the Fòrum area and is rather unique. You get the beach experience without the beach... And the pool experience without the pool! Either way it's a refreshing alternative! There is even an assisted swimming service for visitors with physical disabilities .

This beach without sand can be found in Parc del Fòrum and is easy to access with the Metro exiting at Maresme-Fòrum on L4 (the yellow line). Like all of Barcelona's beaches, you can go whenever you feel like it. The extra services (primarily assisted swimming) are available every day during July, August, and the first fortnight of September from 11:00 to 14:00 . These services are available at a reduced schedule in June and the last fortnight of September only on weekends and public holidays from 11:00 to 14:00 . Entry is free .

Barcelona also has pools that are particularly suitable for children as they are shallow and easy to access. Children can swim, paddle, and play in these pools with fewer risks. These are great places for kids and parents to make friends and meet new people. Here are the most known in the city:

5. Torre de les Aigües - Eixample

Platja de l'Eixample Barcelona

This pool was created within an apartment block in Eixample Dret . It was built in 1870 to provide running water to the new buildings in the neighbourhood through underground water systems that still function today.

Locals refer to it as " Platja de l'Eixample " (Eixample beach) and it's a modestly sized area with a small paddling pool at the foot of the majestic Torre de les Aigües (Water Tower). It's a great place and a great alternative for parents who want to relax and stay refreshed with their children and avoiding the coast.

This space is located on Carrer Roger de Llúria, 56 . It is open from June 25 to September 10 every day from 10:00 to 20:30 . To get to this pool, take Metro L4 (yellow line) to the station called Girona. A ticket will cost €1.55 . Entry is free for children under one year and people over 65 . For details and more prices including week and monthly passes, visit this webpage . One of our favourite family holiday apartments is quite nearby, you can see it (along with others) in this article .

6. Parque de la Creueta del Coll - Gràcia

Parc de la Creuta de Coll Barcelona

This pool can be found in Parque de la Creueta del Coll in uptown Barcelona. It's one of the newer parks of the city, built in 1987 . The lake is converted and doubles as a pool in the summer months, attracting families from all over the neighbourhood.

Nearby there are palm trees, a playground, two ping-pong tables, and a basketball court . The pool is not very deep and is great for children. Moreover, there are ramps to enter, which allow children to become familiar with the water gradually.

The park is located on Passeig Mare de Deu del Coll, 77 and can be reached via Metro line 3 (green line), exiting at Vallcarca. The pool is open every day from the end of June until the first week of September from 10:00 to 20:30 . General admission is €2.35 and for large families it's €1.10. Children under one year and seniors over 65 can enter for free.

7. Lago de Can Dragó - Sant Andreu

Piscina de Can Drago Barcelona

A large artificial lake that's especially loved by locals living in the Nou Barris district . With more than 15,000 m² , it's the largest pool in Barcelona . It's a great place for the whole family and the depth of this pool runs between 0.10m to 1.30m, which means children can go as far as they feel comfortable as the depth only changes gradually.

There is also an area with various services and a bar where you can grab a sandwich and soft drink after a swim.

This open space is found on Carrer Rosselló i Porcel, 7-11 and you can get there via Metro Line 1 (red line) exiting at Sant Andreu. This pool is open every day to the public from June 20 to August 30 from 10:30 to 19:30h . Entry costs €7.10 and varies for children depending on age. For details and more prices, visit the webpage .

And that's the list of the best pools around the city ! If you know some other places, including some of the unmentioned neighbourhoods, then leave a comment and we'll even include it!

What to know about water safety before heading to the beach or pool this summer

With school out for the summer and temperatures rising across the country, many families will be spending time at the beach, lake or local swimming pool. Now is the time to review safety tips to keep children safe around water. (AP Video/Cody Jackson)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — With school out for the summer and temperatures rising across the country, many families will visit the beach, lake or local swimming pool. Now is the time to review safety tips to keep children safe around water.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 and the second leading cause of unintentional death for children in the 5 to 14 age group, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In the United States, 973 children under the age of 19 drowned in 2021, and another 6,500 were treated in emergency rooms following near drowning incidents, according to Gary Karton of Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit organization working to prevent childhood injury.

In fact, more drownings occur in the summer, and specifically in July, than any other time of the year, according to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Image

Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue lifeguard Daniel Barnickel said there always should be an adult monitoring the water.

“As a whole, never swim alone,” he said.

Taking the time to go over safety procedures and rules before heading to the pool or beach can benefit children and their parents.

If you have a backyard pool

The most important safety feature of a backyard swimming pool is a barrier, such as a safety fence, to prevent unsupervised access to the water.

This article is part of AP’s Be Well coverage, focusing on wellness, fitness, diet and mental health. Read more Be Well.

Many children who drowned at home did so during times they were not expected to be in the water, according to the American Red Cross . In some cases, children were out of sight for less than five minutes and in the care of one or both parents when they slipped into the pool and drowned, the agency said.

That said, it is vital to make sure children learn to swim. There are many programs that teach children to swim, including Red Cross swimming courses across the U.S.

If a child goes missing, remember that seconds count. Check the water first, safety experts advise. It’s also important to have appropriate equipment available at home. This includes something to throw into the water for a child to grab onto, a cell phone to call for help, life jackets and a first aid kit.

Skills children should learn to prevent drowning

All children should learn to step or jump into water that’s above their head and safely return to the surface and also be able to float or tread water, according to Safe Kids Worldwide.

They should also be able to quickly turn around in the water and find a safe place, combine breathing with moving forward in the water and get out of the water.

Create a safe environment

If several adults are at the pool, beach or lake with a group of children, choose a water watcher who can have eyes on the children at all times. It’s a great idea to rotate the water watcher among the adults for brief amounts of time, such as 15-minute intervals, experts at Safe Kids Worldwide recommend.

While at the pool or around water, it’s advisable to avoid distractions. Put away phones, books and magazines, because drowning is often silent and can happen in less than five minutes.

When you’re finished swimming, make sure to remove all floats and pool toys so young children won’t be enticed to reach for them.

Teach children to stay away from pool drains or suction devices, which can entrap swimmers’ hair or limbs.

Since 2014, all public pools and spas in the U.S. have been required to comply with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act, which was named after a 7-year-old girl who died after being caught by the strong suction of a hot tub drain in 2002. Her mother lobbied Congress to require drain covers and other pool safety features.

But even with those safety elements, experts say it’s a good practice to check the drains and devices before children get into a pool.

More water safety tips

Always swim with a buddy, or in an area supervised by a lifeguard.

“Make sure that you don’t overestimate your abilities,” Barnickel said. “Know your limits.”

Have young or inexperienced children wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets. The size of the life jacket should be based on the child’s height and weight. Never substitute arm floaties or inflatable swimming rings for life jackets.

The best practice is to keep children within an arm’s reach of an adult at all times when in the water and teach them to always ask permission to go near the water.

Enforce safety rules, including no running or pushing on the pool deck and no dunking people in the water. It’s also a good idea to keep them from chewing gum or eating while swimming or jumping in the water.

Experts also recommend making sure children know the depth of the water so they don’t dive into the shallow end and get injured.

Swimming in open water

Open water, such as the ocean or a lake, is much different than a backyard swimming pool.

Children need to understand there can be limited visibility and uneven surfaces in the ocean and lakes. They also need to be taught about currents and undertow, which can pull them under water and away from the shore.

“Year after year in South Florida, rip currents claim more lives than every weather-related hazard combined,” Barnickel said. “We’ve seen locals come here that have been going to the beach their whole life, and they’ve never been caught in a rip current, or they think that they have and they know what to do. And they’ll get pulled out into a rip current. We’ll go out and get them, and they say, ‘I can’t believe that happened.’”

When at a beach or lake, it’s important to use designated swimming or recreational areas. Watch for signs posted about water hazards, as well as the times that lifeguards will be present.
