Tedeschi Trucks Band at the London Palladium

“Dreams” come true for British blues fans as the Tedeschi Trucks Band command a rare two-night audience at London’s iconic palladium theatre.

Just a stone’s throw away from the epicentre of 60s swinging London – Carnaby Street, the majestic Palladium theatre has played host to many stars of stage and screen along with Her Majesty The Queen on many occasion. However, this evening it is the turn of blues royalty, as US-based ensemble the Tedeschi Trucks Band conclude their current European run on our UK shores.

The marathon is not the only big event to be taking place in the city this weekend. Central London is awash with roots/rock enthusiasts who have been hot-footing it between guitar maestro Joe Bonamassa’s three-night residency at the Royal Albert Hall and tonight’s auditorium nestled just off Regent Street for TTB’s two-night run.

Due to unprecedented demand, both shows at the London Palladium sold out in record time, with fans of the band travelling from far and wide to be present this evening. It’s fair to say that the blues is alive and kicking in the UK right now.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band doesn’t necessarily conform to the rules. They are not going to show up and play a review of their greatest and latest material. Instead, each show is a unique experience that represents a tour de force of musical showmanship and stamina. Not a single song is repeated in the band’s setlist during their two-night residency, which is an impressive feat, to say the least.

The old analogy, “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are gonna get”; the same applies to a Tedeschi Trucks Band show. That enigma along with their unrivalled talent is part of the draw for their fans. Will the band perform their favourite track tonight? Who knows?

As the talented twelve piece outfit takes the stage, they embark upon a magical mystery tour of their back catalogue, digging deep into their songbook whilst also throwing in the occasional cover for good measure.

This evening’s concert is very much a show of two halves that spans in excess of two hours of music. The group kicks off the proceedings with the opening number of their new album with “Signs, High Times” along with a joyous and somewhat funky airing of “Don’t Know What It Means”.

With a band featuring as many members as the TTB they certainly cover a lot of real estate on stage. Joining husband and wife duo of Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks is a pair of duelling drummers, three backing vocalists, a three-piece horn section, Hammond/keys, and bass player Brandon Boone who is tucked away at the side.

To watch this well-oiled machine come together is just a joy to behold. There are no egos or showboating, each artist is as humble as the next, and individually they get to take their moment in the spotlight during the course of this musical marathon.

In the latter stages of the first set, tracks such as the beautifully soulful “Part of Me” and TTB’s take on Charles Seger’s “Key to the Highway” are certainly highlights. Mike Mattison and Tedeschi share lead vocal duties during the latter, whilst Trucks quite literally makes his Gibson SG sing like a bird, during a slide fuelled masterclass. The first half of the show concludes with a perfectly fitting rendition of “I Want More”; a sentiment everyone in this room can relate to.

If set one was the starter, the second half of the show was most certainly the main course in tonight’s blues filled musical feast.

An inspired almost twenty minute jammed out, percussion fuelled performance of “Idle Wind” is the centrepiece of tonight’s set and kicks off the second half of the evening to great effect.

It may well be Saturday evening, but it sure feels like Sunday morning as Susan Tedeschi takes the London Palladium to church during spellbinding renditions of Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On The Wire” and Joe Cocker’s “Space Captain”. Tedeschi’s soaring vocals fill this beautiful auditorium. When it comes to female vocalists, Tedeschi is simply in a league of her own.

The group ups the tempo somewhat during a hard rocking airing of The Derek Trucks Band’s “Get What You Deserve” before giving a nod to the gifted slide guitarist’s former employers The Allman Brothers Band during the enchanting “Dreams”.

The TTB cross the finish line with an encore airing of “Bound For Glory” – on the strength of tonight’s two-hour blues fest aren’t they just. With a repeat performance booked in at the Wembley Arena on 1 st Feb for their largest UK show to date and their only European booking of 2020, the Signs are certainly looking positive for the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Tedeschi Trucks Band Announce Fireside Live 2021 Tour

Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi have announced the Fireside Live tour, a series of socially distanced, limited-capacity concerts that will take place this summer.

The duo will visit a number of small or reduced-capacity outdoor amphitheaters, drive-ins and pod setups across the United States throughout June and July. Each night, they'll be joined by different members of the  Tedeschi Trucks Band , with a total of four to seven musicians playing at each show. They'll perform under the moniker "Tedeschi Trucks" for the first time as a nod to their bandmates who can't join them due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The tour announcement follows the group's  Fireside Sessions , a six-episode series of at-home performances that started on Feb. 18 and continued each Thursday through March. Like the upcoming tour, the Fireside Sessions featured various iterations of the band.

The Fireside Live tour marks the Tedeschi Trucks Band's first in-person live performances since last February, shortly before the pandemic put live music on hold indefinitely. The group recently postponed its Wheels of Soul tour , a more extensive trek that will hit large theaters and amphitheaters across the country, until summer 2022.

“We're really looking forward to getting on the road and seeing everybody's beautiful faces," Tedeschi said in a statement. "Getting together earlier this year to record the Fireside Sessions was really reenergizing, and we are excited to play live in front of fans again. As much as we love performing as the full Tedeschi Trucks Band, current conditions just don’t allow for us to do that.”

Tickets for all Fireside Live — except the last two dates at Red Rocks Amphitheatre — go on sale to the general public on April 23 at 10AM ET, with more details available at the band's website . You can see the tour dates below.

Tedeschi Trucks Band, formerly known as the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, is an American blues-rock group from Jacksonville, Florida.

The band started in 2010 when husband and wife Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks each put their solo bands on hiatus so that they could put more time into making music with each other, both during the recording process, as well as during touring. They were later joined by Maurice Brown, Kofi Burbridge, Tyler Greenwell, J.J Johnson, Mike Mattison, Mark Rivers, Saunders Sermons, Kebbi Williams and Oteil Burbridge. As Tedeschi Trucks band, they made their first live performance at the Savannah Music Festival in April 2010, followed by appearances at Crossroads Guitar Festival and Fuji Rock Festival (among many others).

Tedeschi Trucks Band released their first studio album entitled “Revelator” that was released on 7 June 2011. The album garnered a high praise from critics, including Rolling Stone, who gave it a four out of five rating. Additionally, the album went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album in 2012. Their second album, “Everybody’s Talkin’” was a live album consisting of performances of “Revelator,” as well as covers of other well known rock, R&B and gospel songs. Despite the success, Oteil Burbridge took leave from the band to pursue a family life, and was replaced by Tim Lefebvre. The band continued on making life performance appearances, and in 2013 they released their second studio album entitled “Made Up My Mind.”

Live reviews

My son has always known that my favorite band of all time is The Allman Brothers. A few years ago the Allman Brothers came to town, and for a Father's Day gift my son took me to the concert. I knew what music to expect, but I didn't expect to hear a young blonde haired kid just blow me away!! That night Derek Trucks became my favorite guitar player. Since that night I have attended every time he plays in our area.

I had also been a big fan of Susan Tedeschi and when I found out that she and Derek were married I knew great things could happen. Sure enough, they each came to town, each with their own bands. Susan's band played first, then Derek's. Afterwards, they teamed up on a few songs and it was awesome! I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be great if they formed their own band together?"

My dream came true! I have bought their records, but last night was my first chance to see them together as The Tedeschi Trucks Band. When I showed up to the venue the first thing I did was to buy a t-shirt. It might not mean much to anyone else, but the guy who sold me the shirt was Derek Trucks' father. Butch Trucks brother sold me a shirt and I got to talk to him! As someone who has followed The Allman Brothers since the 1960's this was a big deal to me.

From the opening notes last night the band was on point. I love bands with two drummers. I love bands with great horn players. I'm also a huge fan of Mike Mattison and Kofi Burbridge from DTB. Last night's show was as awesome as it gets. Susan's voice seemed especially soulful and her guitar playing was as sharp as ever. The horn section was animated and they played fantastically. Kofi and Mike were great as usual, and I really enjoyed the other singer, whose name I missed. Then there is Derek! I posted to my FB page, "It's always a good night when you are in the presence of greatness!" No matter how many times I see him play in person, and this was my 4th time, I am awed and amazed, and last night was no exception! Evidentially, I am not the only one, because during and after each song the band was receiving standing ovations. People could not stay in their seats. I'm just happy other people also realize when they are in the presence of greatness. If you would like to experience this too, you must go see The Tedeschi Trucks band for yourself!

Tedeschi Trucks Band is an 11 piece band that is full of soulful, bluesy, jazzy rock. Derek Trucks (Allman Brothers Band, Derek Trucks Band, etc.) and Susan Tedeschi are married and have joined forces that have resulted in one of the pure musical magic.

Derek's guitar playing is absolutely phenomenal. He plays with a passion that oozes soul and blues and he is one of the best slide guitar players of all time. His writing and attachments are genius. He is the real deal.

Susan's voice is a raspy gem. She belts out the blues and soul rock with the best of them and she plays a mighty fine guitar herself.

Two drummers bring that Allman Brothers feel and pound out a grey beat. Jodi Burbridge is a gift on the keyboard. His fingers deliver a soulful funky vibe that blends the songs so well. A great bass line along with a 3 piece horn section make this band tight as can be, hit all the notes and moves you like not other band.

Mike Mattison (Derek Trucks Band, Scrapomatic, solo) hangs with his partner in back vocals and helps bring this band to an even higher level. Mike's voice is up there with the best and he delivers. Every song grabs you and takes you with it.

If you like blues, soul, jazz and rock, if you like the Allman Brothers, Warren Haynes, Bobby Blue Bland, Albert King, Freedie King, live jams that are intensely amazing. Foot stomping, dancing tunes and just a blast of a time at alive concert you will love TTB. Can't wait to see the in September 2 more times!

Very hard working band! Nearly 2 hours of non-stop high energy performance. Big Band sound, percussion excellent, amazing guitar riffs - however - I was expecting Susan as a singer and the performance was focused on Derek's, Susan's and other band members instrumental performance. I enjoyed the first couple of long riffs but it quickly became like eating too much of a good desert. As good as they are I almost left. The warm up was Los Lobos also with strong guitars so the evening was too much of excellent performances I wasn't there to experience.

Now Sac Memorial Auditorium. Recently remodeled a fine venue for many events. But if you're there for music the only acceptable seats are center floor. Sides and upper deck experience far too much sound distortion. I walked around [we were side upper deck] and differences were very clear. So be aware of discounted pricing for areas other than the floor.

Doyle Bramhall opened and his band also just killed it. More than a little Jimi in there. He came out to play with TTB and for a minute it was like classic Allman Bros. except with a horn section. The first song they played was ferocious! That band is crazy good. Every horn player took beautiful solos. Keyboard player also played flute. Tedeschi has never sounded better. Some people were a little put off by the intensity of the band at times but with such a monster band like that? Sometimes you have to let the monster out. Derek Trucks ? Don't get me started. Just amazing. From sweet, tender, exotic to screaming hair on fire ferocity. Four and a half hours ( Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings also )and worth every penny.

Self indulgent and disinterested in their audience, this was one of the most disappointing gigs I've seen in a long time.

Never ending solo spots from all 12 musicians onstage, it seemed like a dull rehearsal room jam.

Bands can vary their setlists, but they are usually built on key songs that form the foundation to every show.

TTB don't care what the audience. As Derek Trucks will spend the whole show with his back to the audience, Susan Tedeschi tells the audience they won't be playing Midnight in Harlem as they played it the night before.

I waited years to see this band, and what a let down it was.

Moving up to arenas?

That's going to be painful.

I'll be washing my hair that night.

I've listened to their music a lot recently and was excited to have the chance to see them live here in Germany. Even though I knew that they are a great live band and I had high expectations I was still blown away by their performance. If you want to be surprised and love spontaneity, jamming, improvisation then you must try and go see TTB! I cannot recall ever seeing a more spectacular live performance. And there is actually very little show, it's really all about the music. No dancing, headbanging, spectacular stage set - just 12 incredible musicians having a great time together. Go see them if you have a chance, it's worth your time and money

In the introduction to the concert in Odense they promised us, that TTB would blow us away – and they certainly did from the first number. 12 great musicians – the drummers were excellent – but especially Susan’s beautiful voice, and Derek’s amazing slide guitar made it a great evening. I have never heard or seen anyone play guitar like DT – absolute amazing. TTB performed every number with perfection, great musicality and perfect sound - also the quiet number “Don’t think twice”. It is the best concert I have been to for many years, and I hope that TTB will come back to Denmark soon.

Susan Tedeschi has a very strong and powerful voice and plays guitar well. Derek Trucks has fantastic capability playing lead instrument, with slide guitar being his specialty. The 12 musicians that were presented on stage made a person feel that they were at an inspirational revival, of a sort, with southern rock & roll being its the underlying music accompaniment. Acoustic Air / Pipe and percussion instruments were presented. The flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and tambourine added a unique audio / visual dynamic. My son and I attended this concert and most definitely had a good time.

Paid $150 for this concert which was a lot. It was the worst concert have ever been to. My friend and I️ had to leave before it ended.

Love Susan Tedeschi vocal but she hardly sang. It was one long instrumental jam session after another. She had her back up vocals singing and a brass section that frankly did not vibe for me with this type of music . I️ love the blues. Derek was incredible on the guitar but like every song had a long guitar session session.

Most concerts are 70% about the music, lyric song and 30% instrumental. This was the opposite. Wow so dissappinted

Honestly, one of the most musically talented bands I've seen live. Derek Trucks is unbelievable on guitar and adds so much more depth and complexity to the guitar pieces in each song. They played a very subtle version of Midnight in Harlem that was beautiful. Susan Tedeschi's voice might actually be what angels sound like when they sing. The combination of the two is very powerful.

If you're into bands that don't just play their songs but save their best versions for their live shows, this is the band to see.

[UPDATE 5/19/21]: Derek Trucks  and  Susan Tedeschi  continued to bolster their socially distant  Fireside LIVE  tour with new summer dates announced on Tuesday. Additionally, the rotating lineup billed as Tedeschi Trucks  has pushed several dates to the fall.

The new additions to the tour will see the husband and wife play with a revolving lineup of  Tedeschi Trucks Band members—depending on travel/safety limitations for each stop—at  Greenfield Lake Amphitheatre  in Wilmington, NC (6/29);  Beach Road Weekend  in Martha’s Vineyard, MA (7/25);  Beech Mountain Resort  in Beech Mountain, NC (8/14);  Coolray Field  in Lawrenceville, GA (8/21, 8/22); and  MerleFest  in Wilkesboro, NC (9/17).

The band has also announced that several concerts have been rescheduled “as we continue to solidify plans for 2021.” Those shows include the 8/14 show in Orlando, FL (now 11/10); 8/21 in West Palm Beach, FL (now 11/11); 8/20 in Ft. Myers, FL (now 11/12); 8/19 in Clearwater, FL (now 11/16); and 8/14 in Savannah, GA (now 11/20).

[4/27/21]: Derek Trucks  and  Susan Tedeschi  have added two more dates to the duo’s  Fireside LIVE  summer 2021 tour. A pre-sale for the two new concerts begins on Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT with a general public on-sale beginning on Friday at the same time.

The  Fireside LIVE  tour will see Derek and Susan touring under the monicker Tedeschi Trucks, rather than Tedeschi Trucks Band. Similar to the duo’s  Fireside Sessions   livestream series, each concert will see various members of TTB sub in and out depending on location, availability, and, above all, safety.

Two new shows added to Tedeschi Trucks Fireside Live Tour: June 15 – Brandon, MS – @BrandonAmpMS June 16 – Orange Beach, AL – @TheWharfAmp Presales on Wed 4/28, Public tix on Fri 4/30 @ 10am CT. [4/20/21]: Derek Trucks  and  Susan Tedeschi  (Tedeschi Trucks Band) have announced  Fireside LIVE , a special series of socially distant, limited-capacity live shows this summer. Much like Tedeschi Trucks Band’s acclaimed Fireside Sessions virtual performance series, each of the  Fireside LIVE  shows will feature a different lineup of members of the full  Tedeschi Trucks Band , ranging from four to seven musicians depending on the performance.

Rather than billing the performances as “Tedeschi Trucks Band,” Derek and Susan will perform the  Fireside LIVE shows simply as “ Tedeschi Trucks ,” an inclusive nod to the members of the band’s typical 12-piece lineup who won’t be appearing at the newly announced gigs. As the  Fireside LIVE  announcement notes, “The decision as to which members will join for each show will be decided week to week, depending on local conditions at the time.”

“We’re really looking forward to getting on the road and seeing everybody’s beautiful faces,” Susan Tedeschi explains in a press release. “Getting together earlier this year to record the Fireside Sessions was really re-energizing, and we are excited to play live in front of fans again. As much as we love performing as the full Tedeschi Trucks Band, current conditions just don’t allow for us to do that.”

The Tedeschi Trucks  Fireside LIVE shows will mark the band’s first fully live public performances since February 2020. The announcement of the pandemic-conscious shows follows the recent postponement of TTB’s annual multi-band  Wheels of Soul tour to 2022 .

Despite the postponement, the Fireside LIVE announcement confirms that Tedeschi Trucks will still perform this summer at a few of the previously scheduled Wheels of Soul  tour stops including Jacksonville, FL’s  Daily’s Place  (6/11, 6/12), Gilford, NH’s Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion (7/3), and Morrison, CO’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre  (7/30, 7/31), with the Red Rocks run falling on the same weekend on which the 2021 Wheels of Soul stop was initially scheduled.

Tedeschi Trucks will also make summer 2021 tour stops at a number of the more popular socially distant venues on the East Coast that have become increasingly popular destinations for touring bands this year including Cayce, SC’s Columbia Speedway Entertainment Center  (6/26), Frederick, MD’s  Showtime at the Drive-In  (7/1, 7/2, 7/3), and Lafayette, NY’s Apple Valley Park (7/9, 7/10, 7/11).

Tickets for all Tedeschi Trucks  Fireside LIVE 2021 shows (except Red Rocks) will go on sale to the general public Friday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. ET. Red Rocks ticketing info has yet to be announced. For ticketing information, head here .
