Tom Cruise ‘s love life has been closely followed for decades, ever since making his breakthrough in the 1983 classic  Risky Business . His romantic history consists of three famous marriages (all of which ended, coincidentally, when his wives were 33 years old) and a string of other high-profile romances. But between 2012-2020, Tom seemingly pumped the brakes on public romances.

However, there was renewed interest in the love life of one of Hollywood’s most famous bachelors after a new report surfaced in December 2020. It claimed that Tom was dating his co-star   Hayley Atwell  from Mission: Impossible 7 . In June 2022, another report came out that the pair broke up . In 2023, Tom reportedly moved on with model Elsina Khayrova . We have more information on that below — including Tom’s many other romances since the ’80s.

Melissa Gilbert

Melissa Gilbert , 59, who played Laura Ingalls on the NBC series Little House on the Prairie , claimed that she dated Tom in the early 1980’s. This was at the very beginning of his career! “Actually, when I dated him he was Tom Mapother still. It was when he first moved to Los Angeles and I think I was 16, maybe, or 17?,” Melissa said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen   in 2017.

“I did not have sex with him,” Laura added. “We made out, but, honestly, there was no sex. He was a good kisser. But, you know, he was, like, a struggling, starving actor. I actually bought him his first set of dishes.” Melissa even reminisced on her friendship/past relationship with her fellow “Brat Pack” pal, Tom, in a throwback Instagram post shared in Oct. 2019.

Heather Locklear

Heather Locklear , 61, was never Tom’s girlfriend, but she did go on one (sort of) date with him. It didn’t go well, according to her recollection. The Melrose Place  star explained in a 2013 interview on Chelsea Lately  that they had both “auditioned for something” together, back when Tom “didn’t have friends” in Hollywood in the early ’80s. So, they went dancing.

“You know in ‘Risky Business’ where he does that dance in his underwear and does the splits? We were dancing at a club and he went into that. He starting doing the splits,” Heather said. “You just kind of stand there and don’t know what to do. Do you dance around him? So, I was like, ‘I’ll just sit down and you can.'”

“And that was the only date you had?,” Chelsea Handler then asked Heather, to which the actress said, “I think so.” Tom and Heather are pictured above together in 1981.

Rebecca De Mornay

Rebecca de Mornay and Tom played lovers in Tom’s breakthrough film, Risky Business , which came out in 1983. Their on-screen chemistry turned out to be real! Although Rebecca joked that Tom was “extremely annoying” at first, she admitted, “He came to grow on me because we wound up together for two and a half years after that film” in a 2018 interview with Celebrity Page .

Tom Cruise famously made Cher ‘s “Top 5” lovers list, which she revealed on  Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen  in 2013. “I had just the greatest lovers ever. Not a long list. It’s just a good list,” the 77-year-old singer had said.

Cher explained how she and Tom connected in a separate interview. “A bunch of people who were dyslexic were invited to the White House, and Tom and I are both dyslexic. We didn’t go out till way later, but there definitely was a connection there,” Cher told the  Mail on Sunday   in 2018. She added, “Though I don’t get what he does, that whole Scientology thing. I can’t understand it so I just… don’t.”

Mimi Rogers

It was during this relationship that Tom infamously joined the Church of Scientology, which he is a prominent figure in to this day. When Tom met actress Mimi Rogers , 67, she had been a few years divorced from Scientologist Jim Rogers . “I met her at a dinner party about a year ago, when I was developing Top Gun. She was dating a friend, and, uh, I thought she was extremely bright,” Tom recalled in a 1986 interview with Rolling Stone .

However, Mimi had a conflicting story. “I wasn’t seeing anybody, he wasn’t seeing anybody, and they thought, ‘These people should be going out with somebody — let’s see if they want to go out with each other.’ And we said, ‘Aw, what the heck. OK’,” Mimi told the Sun Sentinel  in 1987.

Tom sounded smitten in another Rolling Stone interview, which was published mere days before his split from Mimi was announced in 1990. “I’d never been in love before. Since I’ve been with her, it’s opened me up a lot. I think it’s helped me be a better actor. We live a lot of life together. We share everything,” he gushed, later adding, “I care about my wife more than anything in the world. She’s my best friend. I just really like being with her, you know? I love her.” The divorce was finalized in February 1990, three years after they got married.

Nicole Kidman

Tom Cruise moved on to his next marriage, which was with Moulin Rouge!  star Nicole Kidman , 55. They met on the set of their movie Days of Thunder , in which they played lovers, in 1990. By the end of the year, they were husband and wife. Tom and Nicole adopted two children amid their 11-year marriage : Isabella in 1992, and Connor in 1994.

During the marriage, Tom and Nicole also filmed another movie together, Eyes Wide Shut , in 1999. Nicole even looked back at their time filming together in a rare interview in Oct. 2020, telling the  New York Times , “We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We’d rent out a place and go racing at three in the morning. I don’t know what else to say. Maybe I don’t have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I’m not willing to.”

Nicole famously never joined Tom’s Church of Scientology, which even their children went on to be active members in. Tom and Nicole’s split was announced in Feb. 2001, and Tom filed for divorce two days later. To this day, the exes have minimal interactions with one another. “Tom has had little to no contact with Nicole in the 18 years since being married and that is fine by him,” a source close to Tom EXCLUSIVELY told HollywoodLife . “He really does not miss her much at all.”

Penélope Cruz

Tom took a break from the married life and started dating Penélope Cruz , 49, whom he met on the set of the movie Vanilla Sky  in 2000. They enjoyed a three-year relationship, which the former couple’s reps confirmed ended in 2004. “They remain good friends and still talk often. There is no other person involved,” Penelope’s spokesperson told PEOPLE at the time.

Katie Holmes

Enter Katie Holmes , who to date remains one of Tom’s most famous exes. Ironically, Katie , 44, she once told Seventeen Magazine   in 2004 that she “used to think that [she] was going to marry Tom Cruise,” which didn’t turn out to just be wishful thinking. The two came together the very next year.

Katie and Tom’s first public appearance as lovers happened in April of 2005. Tom was with the Dawson’s Creek star in Rome, where he was visiting to collect his David di Donatello Award for lifetime achievement. The very next month, Tom was jumping on Oprah Winfrey ‘s couch and proclaiming that he’s “in love” (to which Oprah said, “The boy is gone”).

The relationship quickly advanced. When Katie stepped onto the  Batman Begins  premiere in June of 2005, the actress revealed that she’s converting to Scientology (Tom’s religion) and her engagement to Tom was announced that very same month. Katie reflected on the time after the divorce in an April 2020 interview with   InStyle . “That time was intense. It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. Hayley Atwell

Tom reportedly started dating Hayley Atwell  — whom you may have seen playing Peggy Carter in the Captain America  movies — in 2020, according to a report from The Sun that surfaced in Dec. of that year. Hayley and Tom filmed Mission 7: Impossible  together amid the pandemic.

“Tom and Hayley hit it off from day one,” a source told The Sun , who added, “Lockdown, and all the difficulties that came with it, brought them even closer and they’ve become fairly inseparable.” Tom and Hayley did not confirm this report, but he hasn’t confirmed any romances since his marriage to Katie, and on June 12, 2022, it was reported he and Hayley had split . It was the second reported split since back in Sept. 2021, they reportedly also called it quits but reconciled a short time later.

“Tom and Hayley’s relationship was genuine,” a source told The Sun . “In spite of some rumours to the contrary, it was never just for the cameras. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for them. They get on really well, and have fantastic chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly give the relationship another try earlier this year.”

In mid-2023, multiple outlets reported that Tom had quietly started dating the model and socialite.

In the early 1980s, young Thomas Cruise Mapother IV was an eager, fresh-faced young actor ready to take on Hollywood, and his first Tinseltown romance happened so early in his career that he had still yet to change his name . When Tom Cruise dated "Little House on the Prairie" actor Melissa Gilbert, she was the recognizable star. An Emmy-nominated showbiz veteran with years of acting experience under her belt by the time she was a teen, Gilbert later shared on " Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen " that she and Cruise went out when she was 16 or 17 years old. While there was no sex during their time together, Gilbert admitted that she and Cruise made out.

Gilbert and Cruise's relationship was short-lived, but it wasn't the last time the young stars would cross paths. Heather Locklear couldn't take his cringe dance moves

Tom Cruise was still a relatively unknown actor when he went on his one and only date with TV star Heather Locklear. She was simultaneously appearing on the hit TV shows "T.J. Hooker" and "Dynasty," and he was grabbing roles in movies like "Endless Love" and "Taps," when the pair hit the town in the early '80s. Clearly, she had the star power, but Cruise was on the brink of fame — and according to Locklear's recollection of their date, he was already making some moves that would make him a movie star.

During a 2013 appearance on "Chelsea Lately" (via the  Daily Mail ), Locklear claimed Cruise busted out some embarrassing dance moves at a club that left her bewildered. She likened them to the ones in his famous 1983 breakout movie "Risky Business," where he slides across a living room in nothing but a button-up shirt, briefs, and white socks. "You just kind of stand there and don't know what to do. Do you dance around him? It was weird. I just sat down," she said.

Locklear didn't pinpoint the exact year of their date, but it was definitely before Cruise was mega famous. Admittedly weirded out by the future movie star, Locklear didn't date Cruise again. And although "Risky Business" writer and director Paul Brickman credits himself for the movie's iconic dance scene, one can't help but wonder if one of Cruise's moves from his Locklear date actually made the final cut.

From friendzone to lovers with Rebecca De Mornay

Tom Cruise and his "Risky Business" co-star, Rebecca De Mornay, had a two-and-a-half-year relationship, but the pair didn't exactly hit it off at first. De Mornay later dished with a laugh to Celebrity Page , "I will say that I thought he was very annoying when we first started [filming]." Clearly, she got over Cruise-induced aggravation as they became more than just colleagues, but when they were doing press for the movie, the pair was publicized as merely being close pals. 

Although they played coy to the media, their co-star Curtis Armstrong's "Revenge of the Nerd" memoir (via The Hollywood Reporter ) later revealed that they were apparently openly and intensely engaging with each other during production. Cruise and Kidman reportedly hooked up while filming the movie, and after his divorce from Mimi Rogers was finalized, they tied the knot on Christmas Eve 1990. Dubbed "Hollywood's Most Romantic Couple" by People , Cruise shared with Vanity Fair that Kidman was his soul mate, and she told the publication, "He's amazingly romantic. He puts so much work into us." In 1992, they adopted their daughter, Isabella, and would welcome son Connor via adoption three years later.

In true power couple fashion, Cruise and Kidman continued to work together throughout their relationship. Tom Cruise's next relationship was with Spanish actor Penélope Cruz. They met in 2000 on the set of "Vanilla Sky" — and Cruise was technically still legally married to Nicole Kidman when he was first romantically linked to Cruz in the summer of 2001. Cruise and Kidman's divorce was finalized on August 8 of that year, and it's since become a part of pop culture history thanks to an infamous photo of Kidman's alleged celebration. 

Cruise and Cruz soon caused a stir as they made their red-carpet debut at the premiere of her film "Captain Corelli's Mandolin." Cruz embraced Cruise's public support, telling  ABC News , "He came and shared [the spotlight] with me. It was special for me that he wanted to share it with me that way." Cruise didn't spare any romantic gestures, telling Marie Claire (via Entertainment Weekly ) in 2003 that he would surprise Cruz by cooking her favorite foods and drawing baths for whenever she arrived home.

Age was just a number for Cher and Tom Cruise

One of Tom Cruise's more curious romantic trysts was with entertainment superstar Cher. 16 years his senior, Cher was already an established music and TV star and well into the movie star phase of her career when she met Cruise at Sean Penn and Madonna's 1985 Malibu wedding. Apparently, Cher's bright purple hair at the nuptials didn't spark an immediate love connection with the young actor, but she and Cruise reconnected later that year at a White House event that raised awareness around dyslexia, a learning disorder both stars have been diagnosed with. While they didn't hook up at the event, Cher later told the  Daily Mail , "We didn't go out till way later, but there definitely was a connection there."

Soon, however, Cruise was apparently making Cher say "whoa" in more ways than one. Cher previously revealed to Oprah Winfrey  that they'd even lived together in his apartment, saying, "He was so wonderful, and I was so crazy about him." His blink-and-you-missed-it fling with Sofía Vergara

Among many of Tom Cruise's romantic trysts was a brief interlude with a pre-"Modern Family" Sofía Vergara. When the two got together in the early '00s, Vergara's small roles in Hollywood movies like "Big Trouble," "The 24th Day," and "Soul Plane" weren't creating a path to superstardom. Cruise, who was having trouble finding a girlfriend, allegedly made Scientology honchos a list of potential love interests — and Vergara made the cut. 

According to Andrew Morton's book " Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography ," the relatively unknown Vergara was set up to meet Cruise by Will Smith at a pre-Oscars bash in 2005. Hitting it off, Vergara began hanging out with Cruise, even bringing her son, Manolo, with her so that he could get to know his kids, Isabella and Connor. Things were seemingly moving forward in their relationship at an incredible clip, so much so that there were allegedly even talks of marriage mere weeks after they got together.

But for Vergara, the ever-looming presence of Scientology reportedly proved to be too much. When it was allegedly demanded that she convert to Scientology to continue their relationship, Vergara is said to have balked. A pal claimed to Morton, "She was fundamentally terrified by Scientology. She sincerely believed that she would be struck down by God and burn in hell if she joined." Needless to say, the Cruise-Vergara era was over before it had a chance to get started.

Nazanin Boniadi allegedly didn't pass the girlfriend audition

In the mid-'00s, Tom Cruise was looking for love, and — allegedly with the help of the Church of Scientology — he tried to find it with Iranian-born British actor Nazanin Boniadi. The "Homeland" star was already a Scientologist when she was reportedly chosen to become Cruise's girlfriend by the organization following a round of auditions in late 2004. According to a 2012 report by  Vanity Fair , though Boniadi wasn't initially told that her top-secret Scientology project was preparing her to meet Cruise, she hesitantly embraced the chance to be with him and decided to take the attention from the actor as a compliment.

While Cruise reportedly didn't hold back on the PDA, Boniadi was more reserved, which purportedly irritated the star. As their relationship progressed, Boniadi felt increasingly confined by the arrangement, which allegedly included confidentiality agreements and being controlled by Cruise and Scientology officials. Things came to a breaking point when Boniadi was at Cruise's Telluride, Colorado home and asked Church of Scientology head David Miscavige to repeat himself, allegedly leaving Miscavige insulted and Cruise appalled at the apparent slight. By January 2005, Boniadi and Cruise were done, with the actual breakup reportedly conducted not by Cruise, but by Scientology officials. 

Per the Independent , the Church of Scientology denied these claims. In 2012, Boniadi name-checked Cruise on an anti-Scientology diss track: "But we all know how it is, there ain't no road to freedom / It's a blind alley, like Kirstie Alley / Travolta and Cruise, but we ain't no fools."

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' marriage defined an era

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' famous romance defined the celebrity-obsessed pop culture of the mid-'00s. Holmes was apparently one of many women who allegedly auditioned to be Tom Cruise's girlfriend , and she seemingly nailed it by admitting her childhood crush on him. Cruise and Holmes took things public in 2005 during the whirlwind publicity tours for their movies "The War of the Worlds" and "Batman Begins." Cruise jumping on Oprah Winfrey's couch and sparring with Matt Lauer about the history of psychiatry? It all happened that spring and summer amidst the heat of the "TomKat" romance. Less than two years after meeting, Cruise and Holmes would welcome their child, Suri, and get married in an extravagant Italian ceremony that reportedly cost $3 million.

Once the dust settled on their marriage, it seems all was not what it seemed to be. Confined by their intense fame, Holmes admitted to Vanity Fair reporter Maureen Orth in 2012, "Oh, we don't go outside very much," and Scientology was reportedly a constant presence in their private lives. Holmes filed for divorce that June, allegedly blindsiding Cruise with the move . Thanks to help from her attorney father, Holmes had a prenuptial agreement in place, and their divorce was finalized in less than two weeks.

Was his alleged romance with Hayley Atwell impossible?

After his headline-grabby divorce from Katie Holmes in 2012, Tom Cruise kept his personal life mostly to himself throughout much of the 2010s. Cruise's post-Holmes filmography was mostly action-hero fare, including installments of his "Jack Reacher" and "Mission: Impossible" franchises. His public persona became less centered around buoyant displays of affection, as it had in the '00s, and more about Cruise's death-defying film stunt work. But by late 2020, Cruise was rumored to have a new love interest in Hayley Atwell, his "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning" co-star.

The Sun reported that Cruise and Atwell had bonded while filming in both the U.K. and Rome, having become close during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. The following July, the duo took in Wimbledon together, further sparking romance chatter in the media. By September 2021, however, Cruise and Atwell reportedly called it quits, taking the highway to the friendzone. However, they apparently got back together in early 2022, but split up yet again shortly after they both attended the May 2022 premiere of "Top Gun: Maverick." Tom Cruise and Shakira sparked rumors at the race track

In May 2023, Tom Cruise was linked to singing superstar Shakira after the duo was spotted at a Formula 1 Grand Prix together in Miami. A source dished to Page Six  about the possibility of a love connection and claimed, "He is extremely interested in pursuing her. There is chemistry." Who has Tom Cruise dated?

Elsina Khayrova (December 2023 – April 2024)

Since his divorce from Katie Holmes, Tom has kept his personal life more private, with no confirmed relationships being made public.

This has not stopped rumours from flying, with sources claiming that the actor was in a relationship with Russian model Elsina Khayrova in December of 2023.

According to Us Weekly sources, the 61-year-old actor and 36-year-old model’s relationship, “started as a basic friendship [and] quickly turned into something more special”.

As of April 2024, however, it’s reported that the pair has split up. The alleged reasoning? A former partner’s media confessions.

Elsina’s ex-husband, Russian oligarch Dmitry Tstetkov spoke to the Daily Mail regarding his relationship with his ex and her newfound partnership where he warned Tom to keep his “eyes and wallet wide open”.

A source told Page Six that this was the reasoning behind the rumoured couple’s split: “He’s filming and can’t be shooting and have her husband saying stuff every time he is mentioned in the press.”

Katie Holmes (2005 – 2012)

Together for nearly a decade, Tom’s relationship with Katie Holmes began in 2005, leading to a highly publicised engagement and marriage in 2006. Their daughter, Suri , was born the same year. In spite of their PDA-packed relationship, Katie filed for divorce in 2012, which was finalised quickly and quietly, where she also received primary custody of Suri.

Penélope Cruz (2001 – 2004)

Following his split from Nicole Kidman, Tom started dating Penélope Cruz, whom he met while working on the film Vanilla Sky. After going public in 2001, the pair kept things relatively private. Tom did, however, reveal in an interview with Marie Claire US that he enjoyed cooking for Penelope “She’ll come home, and I’ll have her favourite kind of food made, have a bath drawn. I like doing stuff like that,” he told the publication in 2003. Their relationship lasted until 2004, with the challenges of a public relationship being cited as a reason for their breakup.

Tom Cruise ‘s wide-spanning dating history has been the talk of Hollywood for years and now that the perpetual bachelor is once again back on the market, that chatter doesn’t look like it is going away anytime soon.

Cruise has a history of being linked to his co-stars. Is it a rumor, or does he have a thing for leading ladies? Either way, Cruise has been linked to multiple women over the years, even before he made it big in the 1980s. With three marriages , several relationships, and a slew of rumored hookups, one can imagine what Cruise’s little black book looks like.

While the actor is one of the biggest names in Hollywood, he’s quite private about his love life, especially in the past decade after his shocking divorce from his third wife Katie Holmes . Since his third divorce, he’s been linked to multiple co-stars, fellow Scientologists , and models over the years, but it seems the  Top Gun star is keeping his dating life away from prying eyes. Elsina Khayrova

Cruise was first linked to Russian socialite Elsina Khayrova in December 2023 when they were spotted looking close at a London party.

While they were never actually photographed together, the pairing caused quite the stir with Khayrova’s ex-husband, a Russian oligarch, even weighing in to warn Cruise about her “expensive and luxurious tastes.”

Their romance fizzled out March 2024 .

Monica Barbaro

It seems Tom Cruise has his eyes on his co-star Monica Barbaro. Insiders alleged to InTouch Weekly, “Tom thinks she’s stunningly beautiful. He’d like to explore a relationship with her. People around Tom believe they’re a great match. But he genuinely wants her to succeed.”

While it’s seemingly only a crush, many are keeping an eye on this potential romance.

In December 2023, it was reported that the actor had been seen “canoodling” socialite Elsina Khayrova. The 36-year-old is the daughter of a prominent Russian member of parliament and ex-wife of diamond-trading oligarch, Dmitry Tsetko.

They reportedly met each other’s kids and were seemingly close-knit until late Feb 2024, when insiders claimed that the two decided to cool things down . As of March 9, 2024, they seemed to have broken things off after she turned down his alleged proposal.

It was later confirmed in March 2024 that they ended their relationship after three months, with sources claiming it was because his team was afraid of her talkative ex-husband .

Hayley Atwell

In late 2020, The Sun reported that Tom Cruise and his Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One co-star Hayley Atwell were secretly dating. Many conflicting reports came in the next two years, some claiming they broke up, were never together, and even reconnected in early 2022. However, Atwell set the record straight and said nothing happened between the two!

Annabelle Wallis

Annabelle Wallis may be 20 years Cruise’s junior, but that didn’t stop romance rumors from springing up left and right when it was announced in Spring 2016 that these two were starring in The Mummy together. Cruise was apparently so smitten with Wallis that he sent her flowers ahead of filming and asked her personally to audition for the part. 

Sofia Boutella

As soon as it was rumored that Sofia Boutella could be Cruise’s co-star in The Mummy , the romance rumors began. Of course, she did end up landing the part in the movie, but it appears neither of them landed a relationship out of the deal. 

According to rumors back in Summer 2015, Cruise was so into his American Made co-star Lola Kirke, the sister of  Girls star Jemima Kirke, that he was ready to make her wife No. 4. These romance rumors were never confirmed by either duo and seemed to fizzle once filming wrapped.

Vanessa Kirby

After rising to fame in The Crown, in which she portrays Princess Margaret, Kirby was cast opposite Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Fallout and soon came the romance rumors after photos emerged of them kissing while filming a scene for the movie.

Many reports came in that Cruise was smitten with her, saying she’d be “perfect to be his next wife.” But Kirby, who also starred in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and will star in its successor, denied the rumors.

“The most disconcerting thing was the people I didn’t think would believe it, did, and they were texting my boyfriend, asking, ‘Are you OK?’ I don’t think they believe anything they read now because you just can’t,” she told Marie Claire UK . “None of it is real. To be getting married to him? Not even a snog, it was marriage.”

Cameron Diaz

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz starred in two films together, Vanilla Sky and Knight and Day , so, obviously, they were madly in love (we speculate, of course). Of course, nothing ever came of the rumors , and Diaz claims they were nothing more than friends.

Laura Prepon

Back in 2013, Tom Cruise and Laura Prepon were seen dining together in Los Angeles, and almost a year later, Page Six reported that the duo had been “secretly dating” for months, but both of their representatives denied this.

Olga Kurylenko

Rumors went into overdrive when photos of Tom Cruise and Olga Kurylenko kissing hit the internet, but Kurylenko quickly denied the rumors and claimed the photos were from their movie  Oblivion .

Yolanda Pecoraro

Right after his breakup with Penelope Cruz, Tom Cruise allegedly had his eyes on Yolanda Pecoraro, who was around 23 years younger than him. It’s alleged that the Church of Scientology had their eyes on her to be his next wife, per Nicki Swift . He was reportedly “head over heels” for her and allegedly paid for her Scientology courses. Their affair only lasted a couple months in the early 2000s.

Model Abbey Lee and Tom Cruise were linked to one another back in 2012 after a raunchy photoshoot, and per Daily Mail , he called her to arrange a meeting back in 2017. The report said, “When he (Tom) found out he was coming to Australia to promote his new film The Mummy, the first people he called was Abbey to arrange a catch-up.”

Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes ‘ whirlwind romance started in 2005, and within two months, they were ready to tie the knot. When Holmes first got into Hollywood, she told Seventeen in a now-deleted interview , “I think every little girl dreams about (her wedding). I used to think I was going to marry Tom Cruise.”

The pair welcomed their child Suri Cruise on Apr 18, 2006, and later married on Nov 18, 2006, in Italy. Soon after getting together, Holmes converted to Scientology for him. However, she left the Church and filed for divorce allegedly due to fear of Cruise abducting Suri into the Church of Scientology. They divorced in 2012.

Sofía Vergara

Back in 2005, Tom Cruise and Sofía Vergara were seen out on what appeared to be a date. According to Foreign Policy , Vergara received a call from Cruise, where he gave her an invitation to his upcoming birthday party. He allegedly showered her with gifts, and the two seemed to really hit it off. But he allegedly tried to convert her to the Church of Scientology, and she refused. 

In 2023, it was even rumored that Cruise had his sights set on Vergara once again after her split from Joe Manganiello but that speculation never amounted to anything. 

Nazanin Boniadi

So Nazanin Boniadi and Tom Cruise didn’t technically date at first, but a 2012 Vanity Fair article claimed the Church of Scientology tried to set the Iranian-born actress up to be Cruise’s wife before Katie Holmes. The Church allegedly auditioned her to be his wife across several months before they ended the brief romance. Boniadi reportedly left the Church soon after.

Penélope Cruz

One of Cruise’s more high-profile co-star romances was with his former co-star Penelope Cruz. Cruise and Cruz met on the set of their film Vanilla Sky in 2000 and began dating in 2001. They amicably split after three years together and reportedly remain friends. 

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise met on the set of the hit film Days of Thunder and tied the knot a year later on Christmas Eve in 1990 in Telluride, Colorado.

They starred in two more films together, and even adopted two children together named Isabella Jane in 1992 and a son named Connor in 1995. 

She joined the Church of Scientology for him but left in 1997, and even got him to leave for a brief period of time, according to The Daily Beast . This later caused a strain in their relationship, and she was reportedly blindsided when he filed for divorce from her in 2001.

Before Kidman became the superstar she is today, she told Marie Claire per Goalcast that she felt like a trophy at the beginning of their marriage. “I thought, I don’t deserve to be here. We would go to the Oscars, and I would think, I’m here to support [Tom]. I felt it was my job to put on a beautiful dress and to be seen and not heard.”

Mimi Rogers

Meet Mimi Rogers: Tom Cruise’s first wife and the person that got him into Scientology . In a previous interview with Rolling Stone , Cruise revealed how they met: “I met her at a dinner party about a year ago, when I was developing Top Gun. She was dating a friend, and, uh, I thought she was extremely bright.” However, Roder told a different story to Sun Senintental .

The two dated in 1986, and later married a year later, in 1987. They divorced officially in 1990, and while it’s unclear why they decided to call it quits, Rogers did give a hint to a big part of their strained relationship. She said to People , that it was hard to be known as just his wife. She said “no matter what the article is, it’s ‘Tom Cruise‘s wife…”

This one is as shocking as it gets. Turns out, Tom Cruise and Cher originally met at Sean Penn and Madonna’s wedding. Not much is known about their brief affair in 1983, but Cher has given a few hints over the years. On an episode of Watch What Happens Live , she listed Cruise in her top five lovers of all time.

Patti Scialfa

Bruce Springsteen’s now-wife Patti Scialfa and Tom Cruise ended up dating for a very brief period of time in 1985, per an old People profile.

Rebecca DeMornay

According to Tom Cruise and Rebecca DeMornay’s former Risky Business co-star Curtis Armstrong’s book Revenge of the Nerd , he alleged the two had an “intense affair,” which DeMornay later confirmed in an interview with Celebrity Page in 2018. She said, “He came to grow on me because we wound up together for two and a half years after that film.” The two were together from 1982 to 1985.

Heather Locklear

So Heather Locklear and Tom Cruise weren’t an item, but they did star together back in the 1980s ,  and even went on one date!

In a 2013 interview on Chelsea Lately , Handler said they had both “auditioned for something” together, back when Tom “didn’t have friends” in Hollywood in the early ’80s. “You know in ‘Risky Business’ where he does that dance in his underwear and does the splits? We were dancing at a club and he went into that. He starting doing the splits,” she said. “You just kind of stand there and don’t know what to do. Do you dance around him? So, I was like, ‘I’ll just sit down and you can.’”

Melissa Gilbert

Before Tom Cruise was Tom Cruise, he dated Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert back in 1981. “Actually, when I dated him he was Tom Mapother still,” she said on Watch What Happens Live . She added that she was “16 maybe or 17” when they met.

Tom Cruise’s Relationship History Is Wilder Than You Thought

It’s hardly surprising for a movie star to have a multifaceted relationship history, and Tom Cruise is no exception. 

The Top Gun star has been linked to an array of Hollywood’s leading ladies , and even has three marriages to his name.

Below, we take a deep dive into everyone Tom Cruise has been linked to, from rumoured romances to long-time lovers. 

1981: Melissa Gilbert

First up in Tom Cruise’s dating history is Little House On The Prairie star, Melissa Gilbert. 

The pair reportedly dated while Tom was an aspiring actor, and still going by his birth name , Tom Cruise Mapother IV.

Years later, in an appearance on Watch What Happens Live , Melissa said, “Actually, when I dated him he was Tom Mapother still,” adding that she was “16 maybe or 17” when they met.

Melissa also got into the nitty gritty of their relationship, revealing to host Andy Cohen that their pair never slept together.

“We made out, but honestly, there was no sex,” she said.

1983: Rebecca De Mornay

Tom next dated his Risky Business co-star, Rebecca De Mornay, although their romance reportedly didn’t start until after filming wrapped.

In a 1986 Rolling Stone profile, Sean Penn recalled a night out with Tom in New York shortly after the hit film was released.

“All these girls were coming over. And this really pretty girl came up to Tommy and started talking to him. And he realised that she wanted him for his body . And he screamed at her, ‘I have a girlfriend that I’m in love with!’ And the girl said, ‘You should have told me that five minutes ago!’”

The pair were both 21 when they dated, with Rebecca saying at the time:

“He really is a pure person. There’s something earnest and virtuous about him that’s quite rare. There’s definitely something different about kids who come from broken homes. They have this sort of searching quality, because you’re searching for love and affection, if you’ve been robbed of a substantial amount of time with your parents. I think that’s true of Tom.”

The pair separated when Tom began working on Top Gun . In the same interview, he said:

“Relationships are hard. You have to know when you’re going to be in a different place from someone else, you have to have the strength to separate. People are more prone to stay together for the security, which is something in my life that I have really not done, in relationships or even in business. If something’s not working, you’ve got to face it and move on.”

1985: Patti Scialfa

According to a profile published by People , Tom briefly dated singer-songwriter Patti Scialfa in 1985. Not much else is known about their romance, other than it was short-lived.

Perhaps the most surprising union of all, Tom was also linked to popstar Cher in 1985. The pair reportedly met at Madonna’s wedding to Sean Penn, and then found themselves together again at a dinner held at the White House.

Years later, in an appearance on Watch What Happens Live , Cher shared that Tom “wasn’t a Scientologist” when they dated, adding, “It was pretty hot and heavy for a little minute.”

“I’ve had just the greatest lovers ever!… [Tom] was in the top five,” she revealed. 

1986 – 1990: Mimi Rogers

In a 1986 Rolling Stone interview, Tom said he met his first wife, Mimi Rogers, “at a dinner party […] when I was developing Top Gun . “

“She was dating a friend, and, uh, I thought she was extremely bright.”

The pair were married in 1987. In another Rolling Stone interview, Tom said of his then-wife,   “I wouldn’t have been able to make it through Born , I don’t think, without her being there. There were times I was so physically exhausted, and the stuff was very emotional.”

“I couldn’t imagine being without her or being alone,” he added.

In the same interview, he revealed that Mimi was the first person he had ever been in love with.

“There were girls you like a lot. But I’d never been in love before. Since I’ve been with her, it’s opened me up a lot. I think it’s helped me be a better actor. We live a lot of life together. We share everything. That’s the best thing about life. Otherwise you go through it pretty sad and lonely and angry.”

It’s not clear exactly why the pair split, but Mimi later told People she found Tom’s fame hard to handle. 

“You cease to be an individual,” she said. “No matter what the article is, it’s ‘ Tom Cruise ‘s wife….’ ”

1990 – 2001: Nicole Kidman

One of his most high-profile relationships, Tom was with Australian actress Nicole Kidman from 1990 to 2001, who he met on the set of Days Of Thunder .

According to Us Weekly , the pair were married less than one year after his divorce to Mimi Rogers was finalised, in a private ceremony held on Christmas Eve. 

After they were married, the couple worked together again, this time on Far And Away . In 1992, the same year the film was released, they adopted their first child, Isabella. Then, in 1995, they adopted a son, Connor.

In 1999, Tom and Nicole appeared in a third and final film together, Eyes Wide Shut . 

“We were happily married through that,” Nicole told The New York Times in 2020.

“We would go go-kart racing after [intense] scenes. We’d rent out a place and go racing at three in the morning.”

In February 2001, the pair announced their separation, via a statement that read:

“Citing the difficulties inherent in divergent careers which constantly keep them apart, they concluded that an amicable separation seemed best for both of them at this time.”

2001 – 2004: Penelope Cruz

From 2001 to 2004, Tom was linked to actress Penelope Cruz, after the pair met on the set of Vanilla Sky . 

The pair kept their relationship relatively low key, with Tom telling marie claire US in 2003 that he liked to surprise his partner often.

“She’ll come home, and I’ll have her favourite kind of food made, have a bath drawn. I like doing stuff like that. She likes my food, so I cook for her. It’s always the little things I like in a relationship.”

After three years together, the couple called it quits, with a source telling People :

“They remain good friends and still talk often… There is no other person involved. The relationship just ran its course and they decided not to be girlfriend and boyfriend anymore. Through most of the relationship they were both shooting movies in separate parts of the world.”

2005 – 2012: Katie Holmes

Tom’s third marriage was to actress Katie Holmes .

The pair first sparked rumours of a romance after they were spotted holidaying together in 2005. The following year, their relationship accelerated, with the couple announcing their engagement and welcoming their daughter, Suri , shortly after.

In the early stages of their relationship, Tom gushed about their newfound love. In 2005, he gave the infamous couch-jumping interview, where he told Oprah, “I’m in love. I’m in love and it’s one of those things where you want to be cool, like, ‘Yeah I like her.’”

“That’s not how I feel. I wanted to meet this person and I met her and she’s extraordinary.”

After five years of marriage, Tom and Katie announced their separation via separate statements.

“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest,” her attorney said.

Tom’s statement, on the other hand, read: “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy.”

Who Is Tom Cruise Dating Now?

Tom Cruise, 61, is reportedly dating Russian socialite and former model Elsina Khayrova , 36. The pair attended a party in London’s Mayfair in late 2023, with one guest describing the pair as ‘besotted’, according to The Daily Mail .

Khayrova is the daughter of a Russian MP, Rinat Khayrov, and the ex-wife of a Russian oligarch, Dmitry Tsetkov. Cruise’s reported romance comes 11 years after his split from third wife Katie Holmes.

After dating rumours hit front pages, Khayrova’s ex-husband has spoken out.

“Irrespective of whoever she’s with, Tom Cruise or anybody else, they should be aware that she likes the finer things in life and has expensive and luxurious tastes,” he told the Mail . “Tom should keep his eyes and wallet wide open.”

He added that his three-year divorce cost him nearly $200 million, given that he is a tycoon whose business is in diamonds and mining.

Cruise has been married three times: to Mimi Rogers from 1987 to 1990, to Nicole Kidman from 1990 to 2001 and to Katie Holmes from 2006 to 2012. He has also romanced Cher , Heather Locklear and more A-listers.

As his career continued to skyrocket, Cruise’s splits gained more attention. However, the actor is notorious for keeping the reasons behind his breakups private.

“She knows why, and I know why,” Cruise told Vanity Fair in October 2001 of his and Kidman’s divorce. “I think that you just move on. And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t say that with anything. Tom Cruise's Romantic History: The Reality, the Rumors and the Mysteries That Won't Quit

Perhaps no one in hollywood has a dating and marital history that has caused so much speculation.

A roller-coaster romantic history almost comes with the territory in Hollywood.

You're always meeting people, you never know who's around the corner, you're working with someone and the chemistry is off the charts... the temptations are endless. Some stars seem to have no intention of settling down, while others settle down every chance they get. Serial monogamy, no strings attached, boyfriend swapping with your squad, making it Instagram official—there are so many different ways to date. Even a lot of the couples who've been together for decades are on their second (or third) marriages. Sometimes it just takes multiple tries to get it right.

Regardless of how long the current relationship is, or how much time a star spent off the market, a lot of action—real and imagined—can be packed into one personal life. But has anyone had a love life quite like Tom Cruise ?

We don't mean his three marriages and various girlfriends—that's par for the course. Rather, as far as the utter fascination with how he goes about meeting women and what makes or breaks a relationship with him, no one in this celeb-obsessed culture has been under the microscope in recent years as much as Tom has.

Then again, he hasn't always helped his own cause if he'd prefer to  not be a source of curiosity.

Having been an A-list heartthrob for the better part of three decades, Cruise is pretty used to being the subject of endless speculation, as are his peers—the Johnny Depp s, Brad Pitt s and George Clooney s of the world. And just like his fellow Sexiest Man Alive types, he's amassed an interesting list of actual and rumored love interests. Also like them, he doesn't have time to comment on every rumor.

Unlike them, however, Tom Cruise is...well, he's just  so Tom Cruise. Ageless at 54, he's still entirely unique when it comes to the certain punch he brings to a movie. In a business where every star banks on the wrong film once in awhile, Cruise's list of credits is remarkably solid. Even among the box office busts, he's usually a pretty good reason to watch anyway. And aside from having that increasingly rare magnetic presence—the man can  act .

All of which makes his inscrutable personal life just that much more interesting.

"I don't even get into that game," the actor told Today host  Matt Lauer back in 2006 when he and Katie Holmes burst onto the scene as a couple. Katie, in fact, was sitting right off to the side while Cruise gave the interview, and the screen would occasionally flash back to the  Dawson's Creek  star and her apparent glee at being in that position.

"I'm just living my life, Matt. It's something—I'm just living my life—I'm doing the best that I can, and doing it in the way I feel is right," Cruise said, explaining his previous burst of emotion on Oprah Winfrey 's couch. "I like hearing good news. I like hearing if something good happens to you, it's nice." Regarding rumors that TomKat was a PR stunt, he concluded, "There's always cynics. There always has been and always will be...I have never worried, Matt, about what other people think and what other people say."

Lucky for movie stars, they can hire people to do that for them.

So here's what's been said—by Tom Cruise and by other people—over the years about his romantic life.

Cruise's career took off  almost  as fast as his love life when he got to Hollywood.

The  Little House on the Prairie  star and future SAG president met Cruise when "he was a struggling starving actor, and I was working. I actually bought him his first set of dishes." She told Andy Cohen on  Watch What Happens Live! in 2014 that they did not have sex (she was "16, maybe, or 17" at the time), but "we made out"—and he was a good kisser.

The actress scored her breakout role in  Dynasty right around the time Cruise made his big-screen debut in  Taps— and naturally, the fresh-faced stars went on a date in the early '80s after meeting at an audition.

Locklear, a Los Angeles native, later described it to Chelsea Handler as more of a favor she did for the new guy in town. The kid didn't lack for confidence, though. "You know in  Risky Business where he does that dance in his underwear, and he does the splits?" Heather recalled. "We were dancing at a club and he went into that, he started doing the splits. And I, you—" She feigned looking startled. "You just kinda stand there and don't know what to do. Do you dance around him? So I was like, 'I'll just sit down and you can [do you thing].'"

More impressed by his moves was his  Risky Business  co-star, whom he started dating after the racy romance, with its iconic dance scene, hit theaters in August 1983. In October of that year, De Mornay told  People that she didn't have a boyfriend, but one of the reasons she liked Cruise so much was, "I think he is an innocent and that makes me feel good."

Sean Penn , meanwhile, recalled to Rolling Stone   going out with Cruise not long after  Risky Business came out and witnessing the actor tell a woman who tried to chat him up at the club, "'I have a girlfriend I'm in  love with!'"

"He really is a pure person," De Mornay said when they were together, also per RS . "There's something earnest and virtuous about him that's quite rare. There's definitely something different about kids who come from broken homes. They have this sort of  searching  quality, because you're searching for love and affection, if you've been robbed of a substantial amount of time with your parents. I think that's true of Tom."

They maintained their relationship long distance while he was in London filming the action fantasy  Legend , but broke up not long after he returned to the U.S. to shoot  Top Gun . 

"Relationships are hard," Cruise told Rolling Stone in 1986. "You have to know when you're going to be in a different place from someone else, you have to have the strength to separate. People are more prone to stay together for the security, which is something in my life that I have really not done, in relationships or even in business. If something's not working, you've got to face it and move on."

Asked about settling down, he said, "I don't know if I could get married. Right now, in my present state of mind, I don't believe so. I need a lot of space for myself and my work. You can't say, 'Okay, let's keep that thought—I'll be back to you in a couple of months when I finish this.' But I do enjoy being in a relationship."

They would've been a hard couple to miss, such as when they ran into each other in 2002 at the 1st Annual Entertainment Industry Foundation "Love Rocks" Concert, but it wasn't until around 2008 that the entertainment icon opened up about her mid-'80s fling with Cruise.

"I was crazy about him," Cher told Oprah Winfrey . Reminiscent of what De Mornay said about him being an innocent, the singer recalled, "He was shy. He said he felt like such a boob in school and nobody talked to him. We went on a date once for dinner in a New York restaurant and the waitress was from his old school. He told me she never talked to him back in school, but now he was recognized he got all her attention. It could have been a great big romance because I was crazy for him."

On  Watch What Happens Live! in 2013, Cher said Cruise definitely made her "top five" list of lovers in life. "It was a long, long time ago and neither one of us ever talked about it and I don't know why," she told Andy Cohen. "When we were together he was such a private person. He always has been until lately. He didn't mention it and I didn't mention it. I loved him though, he was amazing."

According to Cruise, he met the Gung Ho  actress in 1985 at a dinner party while he was developing Top Gun . She was dating a friend of his at the time, but ultimately they got together. Though he didn't think he was ready for marriage in the summer of 1986, they quietly tied the knot on May 9, 1987, in upstate New York. Emilio Estevez was Cruise's best man. His mother, Mary Lee South, told  People her new daughter-in-law was "top notch."

Having previously been married to Scientology counselor Jim Rogers, Mimi's the one who's said to have turned Cruise on to the religion. "She took him under her wing,"  Tom Cruise Unauthorized author Wensley Clarkson told  Entertainment Weekly in 2000. (Rogers, meanwhile, has since cut ties with Scientology.)

They announced they were divorcing in January 1990. 

"Is that the story, that I was bored with that child and threw him over, chewed him up and spat him out?" Rogers fired back at Playboy in 1993 when asked why the marriage ended. "Well, here's the real story. Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk. At least for that period of time, it looked as though marriage wouldn't fit into his overall spiritual need. And he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument." She added pointedly, "My instrument needed tuning."

As for the other rumors being flung about, that he had become too big a star, or their six-year age difference proved too impenetrable, a then 45-year-old Rogers told the U.K. Telegraph   in 2001, "The stardom wasn't really a problem. What did annoy me, though, was the age thing. Some of the tabloids brought it up all the time, and exaggerated the gap between Tom and me. Every six months they seemed to add a year to my age. If Tom and I were still married, the tabloids would probably have me in my sixties by now."

After meeting during casting of the racing drama  Days of Thunder , he proposed as soon as his divorce from Mimi Rogers was finalized, and the Australian actress married Cruise on Christmas Eve in 1990.

"He basically swept me off my feet," Kidman recalled to Vanity Fair  in 2002 . "I fell madly, passionately in love. And as happens when you fall in love, my whole plan in terms of what I wanted for my life—I was like, 'Forget it. This  is it.' I was consumed by it, willingly. And I was desperate to have a baby with him. I didn't care if we were married. That's what I wish I'd done."

They adopted two children,  Isabella  and Connor , and starred in two more films together, the period epic  Far and Away and the erotic thriller  Eyes Wide Shut , which they admitted later was an extremely intense shoot, made all the more devastating by director Stanley Kubrick 's death before the film was finished. They also weathered the dooziest of rumors, from one that they were both gay and the marriage was a cover to a report that they needed a coach for the sex scenes in  Eyes Wide Shut (the couple successfully sued over both stories).

"Our marriage is stronger because of it. And our friendship is deeper," Cruise said about their final film experience together. 

"All I can say is that I hope we are together when we are 80," Kidman told Talk in 2000. "I can't say we will be, but I will be so devastated if we are not."

So consider her blindsided by the timing when Cruise filed for divorce months later. "Citing the difficulties inherent in diverging careers which constantly kept them apart, they concluded that an amicable separation seemed best for both of them at this time," their longtime rep said on Feb. 5, 2001, in announcing the split.

Even then, Kidman's lack of attachment to Scientology and her reluctance to raise their kids that way was named as a major factor in their split (her rep told People  religion had "nothing to do with this"). Connor and Isabella were still Scientologists as of at least 2013.

Asked why their marriage ended, Cruise told  Vanity Fair in October 2001, "She knows why, and I know why. She's the mother of my children, and I wish her well. And I think that you just move on. And I don't say that lightly. I don't say that with anything. Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, and there's a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality."

After meeting on the set of 2001's trippy  Vanilla Sky , the Spanish actress dated Cruise for three years, though they were apart a majority of the time for work.

They made their public debut as a couple at the August 2001 premiere of Cruz's film  Captain Corelli's Mandolin . "He came and shared it with me," she said on Good Morning America soon after. "It was special for me that he wanted to share it with me that way."

Cruise was married when they were shooting  Vanilla Sky , but Cruz insisted they didn't get together until later. "There's nothing to hide and it's a good thing," she said. (She would say years later , "I've never fallen in love with someone I'm working with. It's always been afterwards. If something becomes friendship, then maybe months later it becomes something else, but you can never know. It's always a mystery. You can't plan those things.")

"I'm very, very happy with my relationship," Cruise had told  People in the summer of 2003, also denying that they were engaged. The relationship wasn't without its legal drama, however, as Cruz ended up securing damages and a retraction  from an Australian tabloid in June 2003 over a story claiming her impending marriage to Tom was postponed because she had an affair. 

They split up in January 2004 and alerted the world to that fact two months later. "The relationship just ran its course and they decided not to be girlfriend and boyfriend anymore," a source told People   at the time. Cruz's rep denied that Scientology played a role, saying that the actress, while not a Scientologist, had found the church courses she took "beneficial."

The  Modern Family star is said to have briefly dated Cruise during a period of time after he broke up with Cruz when the actor really wanted a potential partner who could embrace Scientology (those said to be involved with Cruise's dating process have denied that was the case).

When an interviewer from the Daily Beast noted in 2011 that he hadn't heard too much about what it was like to date Cruise, Vergara reportedly laughed hysterically and exclaimed, "Let's keep it that way! I don't want to talk about that!"

Like Vergara, the  Avengers star reportedly wasn't into Cruise's scene. They were never photographed out on a date together, but looked perfectly cordial at an Ambassadors for Humanity gala honoring Bill Clinton and benefiting the Shoah Foundation in February 2005.

According to a 2012 report in Vanity Fair (the particulars of which were denied by the Church of Scientology), the Iranian-born actress, who would go on to roles in  How I Met Your Mother ,  Scandal ,  Homeland  and more, quietly dated Cruise between October 2004 and January 2005 before it became obvious to the actor and the church that she wasn't right for him.

Per  VF , for their first date (a group outing), Cruise arranged for a private tour of the Empire State Building, followed by dinner at Nobu and ice skating at the rink at Rockefeller Center, which was closed to the public for the occasion.

Boniadi was already a Scientologist when she was allegedly recruited to date Cruise, that being a huge part of the appeal, but she later left the church. (The church called the mission to hook Boniadi and Cruise up a "phantom project that never existed.")

"I'd rather not talk about that. It's something that I'm not happy to..." Boniadi told The New York Post in 2013 , trailing off when asked about Cruise. "Like I said, I have so many positive things happening in my life, it's a shame not to talk about that."

After a whirlwind courtship (but over a decade after the  Dawson's Creek star crushed on him as a kid) punctuated by Cruise's epic declaration of love for Holmes on Oprah Winfrey 's couch in May 2005, the couple welcomed daughter Suri in April 2006. Annie Leibovitz  shot Suri's public debut, the October 2006 cover of  Vanity Fair . TomKat tied the knot at a castle in Italy on Nov. 18, 2006.

"People are going to do what they're going to do," Cruise told MTV News in June 2005, talking about the public reaction to his reaction to being in love. "Here's the thing, you can't think about it in terms of what people are going to do or say. It's 'I want to share my life with this woman. This woman is exceptional, she's special, she's extraordinary and I have great respect for her.' It's someone who's saying 'I've got nothing to hide, I'm happy.' I'm happy, man!"

Asked about the possibility of acting together, he added, "I'd love to work with her, she's a great actress. I will work with her someday, no question."

Holmes filed for divorce in June 2012 and, thanks to their reportedly incredibly detailed prenup drafted by Martin Holmes , Katie's divorce attorney father, all was settled within two weeks. Again, religion was rumored to be the big sticking point, and a source told  Us Weekly that Holmes had reached out to Nicole Kidman for support during the marriage's final days.

Aside from Cruise's extremely public outings with Suri to places like Disney World, Holmes was the one who was most often spotted with Suri. In December 2013, Cruise accepted a settlement  in the $50 million defamation claim he brought against Bauer Media over a  Life & Style story that claimed he had more or less abandoned his daughter.

"I don't want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am," Holmes told People in October 2014, referring to her marriage to Cruise. "I don't want that to be what I'm known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now."

Hot on the heels of his divorce from Katie Holmes, Cruise was rumored to be dating his  Knight & Day co-star. 

The rumor wasn't true , but the pair did get along swimmingly on the set of the humorous action thriller.

Asked how she spent her 40th birthday (in a deposition for his suit against Bauer Media, Cruise had denied attending her b-day party in London in August 2012, though there were pictures of them taken that night), Diaz later explained on  The Graham Norton Show , "I happened to bump into Penélope Cruz, Javier [ Bardem ], Tom and his son in a hotel and joined them for dinner. At midnight I said, 'I'm 40!' so we took pictures and then said, 'Goodnight, see you later, blah, blah, blah,' and I haven't seen him since.

"But the next thing I know, apparently I am dating him and it's full on and he is coming after me!"

A rumor caught fire in 2014 that these two were dating, and their new romance was all anyone on the set of  Orange Is the New Black could talk about. That turned out to be vehemently untrue , with reps on both sides denying it.

"It's just so funny that, when people don't know, they just make stuff up, [like] apparently I'm dating Tom Cruise right now," Prepon told She Knows . "And apparently he doesn't want me doing [ OITNB ] because I portray a lesbian and I'm a Scientologist."

She added, "This is false. Where are they even getting this stuff? It's unbelievable to me."

In October 2016,  Us Weekly reported that Cruise had had a girlfriend for several months, an unnamed British woman whom the actor was said to be serious about. "Very normal and pretty" was how a source described her.

As of March 2017, Cruise was reportedly smitten with the British actress, who plays Princess Margaret in  The Crown  and will be in Mission: Impossible 6 with Cruise.   She didn't help matters when she told the  Times  of London that she was seeing somebody under the radar.

But E! News heard that there was no truth to this rumor, either—though audiences can analyze the chemistry for themselves when the movie comes out in July 2018.

Meanwhile, though the ins and outs of his personal life remain a closely guarded secret, he has plenty of public engagements to get ready for.

In addition to  M:I6 , he's got Doug Liman 's CIA thriller American Made coming out, he's attached to star in the sci-fi space flick  Luna Park  and Cruise just revealed that the need for speed  is great enough— Top Gun 2 is happening .

Moreover, the  The Mummy— which opens in theaters June 9—was recently branded part of Universal's Dark Universe featuring the studio's various classic monster properties, an indication of more films to come.

As Tom looks set to embark on a new romance, MailOnline takes a look back at his relationship history.

Cher (1985)

Tom first met Cher in 1985 when they were introduced at Madonna and Sean Penn's wedding in Malibu.

They later met again at a White House event to raise awareness for dyslexia and soon embarked on a 'hot and heavy' romance.

Recalling the relationship, Cher told Event magazine in 2018: 'A bunch of people who were dyslexic were invited to the White House, and Tom and I are both dyslexic.

'We didn't go out till way later, but there definitely was a connection there.'

Asked if the pair are still friends now, she said: 'Yeah! Though I don't get what he does, that whole Scientology thing. I can't understand it so I just… don't.' 

During a 2013 appearance on Andy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live, Cher said Tom was one of the top five lovers she had ever had.

She said: 'He wasn't a Scientologist then. It was pretty hot and heavy for a little minute. He's a great guy. The person that I knew was a great and lovable guy.'

Mimi Rogers (1887-1990)

Tom married his first wife Mimi Rogers on May 9, 1987. However the couple were not meant to be as they divorced three years later.

Discussing their marriage with Rolling Stone in 1987, Tom said: 'I'd never been in love before. Since I've been with her, it's opened me up a lot. 

'I think it's helped me be a better actor.  We live a lot of life together. We share everything… She's my best friend.'

Mimi is believed to be one of Tom's first links to the Church of Scientology which he has since become closely associated with.

The actress was raised in the controversial church and was one of its 'auditors' when she met Tom.

Mimi has since left Scientology while Tom continues to be an active member. 

Nicole Kidman (1990-2001)

Tom met his second wife Nicole Kidman on the set of their film Days Of Thunder (1990). 

The pair enjoyed a whirlwind romance before they married on December 24 of that year and adopted two children, Isabella (born 1992) and Connor (born 1995).

They starred together again in the 1999 erotic thriller Eyes Wide Shut before divorcing two years later.

Tom filed for divorce while Nicole was unknowingly pregnant. The pregnancy had appeared to end in miscarriage before Nicole clarified in 2007 it had been an ectopic pregnancy.  

Penelope Cruz (2001-2004) 

Tom met Penelope Cruz on the set of Vanilla Sky in 2000 but he insisted the pair didn't begin dating until after his divorce from Nicole the following year.

He told The Telegraph: 'I've never fallen in love with someone I'm working with. It's always been afterwards.'

In a 2003 interview with Marie Claire, Tom opened up about the 'little things' he liked to do for the Spanish beauty.

He said: 'She'll come home, and I'll have her favorite kind of food made, have a bath drawn. I like doing stuff like that. She likes my food, so I cook for her. It's always the little things I like in a relationship.'

The pair eventually went their separate ways in 2004. 

Nazanin Boniadi (2004-2005)

Tom was next linked to British actress Nazanin Boniadi, who he dated from November 2004 to January 2005.

Years later, a Vanity Fair article claimed Scientology leaders had launched a secret project to find Tom a new girlfriend after his split from Penelope.

The publication claimed a series of 'auditions' led to Nazanin being selected to be his girlfriend, however she later left Scientology.

Katie Holmes (2005-2012)

In April 2005, Tom embarked on what would become one of his most high profile relationships when he began dating Katie Holmes. 

The pair made their first public appearance together that month in Rome and were quickly dubbed 'TomKat' by the press.

Tom famously declared his love for Katie during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show where he jumped up and down on the couch in celebration of their relationship.

Tom and Katie's daughter Suri was born in April 2006. The couple married at Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy that November in a Scientoogist ceremony.

Katie filed for divorce in June 2012 with Tom later acknowledging that Katie's desire to protect their daughter Suri from Scientology was a factor in their divorce.

Hayley Atwell (2021-2022)

Tom reportedly dated actress Hayley Atwell after they worked together on Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning. 

Although the pair never confirmed their romance, they did attend the Wimbledon finals together in 2021.

They were reported to have split in June 2022, with a source telling The Sun: 'Unfortunately it hasn't worked out for them. They have now decided they are better as friends.' 

The insider also revealed that the fanfare around the couple after going public was too much to handle. 

Shakira (2023)

Tom was linked to Shakira after they met at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami in May.

Shakira parted ways with longtime love Gerard Piqué, 36, last summer amid allegations he had cheated on her with the woman he wound up dating following the split , Clara Chia  Marti, 24.

A source told Page Six that the Colombian singer 'needs a soft pillow to fall on, and that could be Tom.'

Tom Cruise Sets Sights On New Girlfriend As Suri Announces College Plans

Suri Cruise just made a big life announcement, but it looks like her father Tom Cruise is also look towards the future. A new report says the Mission: Impossible (1966) actor has his sights set on a famous actress to become his new girlfriend – Angelina Jolie .

“Over the past few years, they’ve had conversations about working together, it’s just about finding the right project. And lately, Ange has seemed more open to getting to know him socially, too,” a source told Heat Magazine . “Tom raves about Ange’s intellect and what a strong, impressive woman she is. He loves that she’s never really conformed in Hollywood.”

“Plus, they’re both such superstars, only a handful of people can truly understand the life they live. That in itself creates a bond,” they continued.

Apparently, Cruise is even strategizing how to win Jolie over. The source says he’s hopeful that they can collaborate together on a project, and something else may blossoming from their professional relationship.

His goal right now is to convince her to work with him, then hell romance her, the insider continued. Hes being careful not to come on too strong, but he wants to take it out of the friend zone.

Moreover, the source said that it’s not a priority that Angelina (or any potential girlfriend) be involved in scientology, despite his famous connection to the church. Last year, it was rumored that Cruise may be taking a break from the mysterious religion, though he seemed to debunk speculation by making an appearance at scientology headquarters within weeks of speculation brewing.

“He has no intention of pushing Scientology on her, as he quite astutely knows that it would send an anti-religious Angelina running in the other directin,” the source went on. “[Either way] their mutual friends could really see this happening.”

Suri Is Making Big Decisions For College

While Cruise apparently has his love life on his mind, his youngest daughter, Suri, is also making big moves. The 18-year old hinted at her future educational plans in a "commitment day" TikTok shared by a classmate. Suri, who’s currently a student at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City, was beaming as she seemingly revealed her college choice.

In the TikTok video, which was captioned "LaG commitment day," Suri and her classmates sported sweatshirts indicating their future colleges. As Miley Cyrus’s "I'll Always Remember You" from Hannah Montana played in the background, Suri and her friends danced through their school’s halls, proudly displaying their chosen universities.

Suri made a playful face for the camera and pointed to her chest, showcasing a bright red sweatshirt with "Carnegie Mellon" printed in white lettering.

Although Suri has not officially disclosed what she plans to study, reports suggest she may be interested in pursuing a fashion-related program. She’s also expressed an interest in acting , just like her famous parents. Her mother, Katie Holmes, has expressed hope that Suri will continue to participate in some of her future projects.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were once considered one of Hollywood's It-couples, so news of their split in 2012 came as a shock to fans.

The couple tied the knot in November 2006 in Odescalchi Castle near Rome, Italy, and during their six-year marriage, they welcomed their daughter Suri .

Dawson's Creek star Katie is often seen spending time in New York City with the 18-year-old after she was granted full custody of her daughter in the divorce settlement. See the other divorce rules Tom and Katie agreed to follow to prioritise her well-being.

Suri was born in April 2006, with doting father Tom later gushing to  ABC News : "It was everything that we wanted it to be... It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable."

She was just six years old when Katie filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences."

Tom confessed to German TV network ProSieben: "I didn't expect it," adding: "Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor."

Katie and Tom released a joint statement that read: "We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests.

"We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents."

Divorce terms 

Katie reportedly deliberately filed for divorce in New York, where family law judges tend not to grant joint custody to fighting parents to prevent conflicts for the children.

She was granted sole custody and Tom agreed to several financial obligations, including paying Katie $400,000 a month until Suri turned 18 years old, according to the  Daily Mail . The Mission Impossible actor also agreed to shoulder "medical, dental, insurance, education, college and other extracurricular costs".

Aside from finances, the pair also set out boundaries when it came to religion. Tom is a devout Scientologist, and when he split from his first wife Nicole Kidman in 2001, their two adopted children Isabella and Connor continued to be Scientologists and drifted apart from their mother.

Catholic-raised Katie was supposedly afraid of history repeating itself with Suri, which is why she sought sole custody. This allowed her to remove her daughter from any Scientology-influenced schools, like the Delphian School in Oregon where Tom's older children attended.

Instead, Suri attended LaGuardia High School and has hinted she is planning to study at Carnegie Mellon University .

According to TMZ, Katie and Tom's divorce agreement also included restrictions on what they could tell Suri regarding religion. The little girl supposedly couldn't be exposed to anything Scientology-related.

Tom was very excited to become a father to Suri, even controversially buying a medical-grade sonogram machine in order to see her throughout Katie's pregnancy.

Throughout Suri's childhood, the father-daughter duo were often pictured on public outings before Tom and Katie divorced.

However, the Top Gun actor spent less and less time with his daughter following the split.  Lindsay George , BACP-registered counsellor and psychotherapist, told HELLO! that this may have had  an impact on Suri's attachment , which was likely secure until her father left.

"Suri may well have felt quite confused at the time as to why her dad left," she began.

"We can speculate that he was present and an emotionally available dad. Obviously, she's got her mum too, so potentially, Suri's attachment style is secure because she's had two parents emotionally and physically available in those early years of her life, which is super important."

Former Scientologist Samantha Domingo told  Us Weekly that Tom was "not allowed" to have a relationship with Suri as she was not a Scientologist.

Samantha explained the Church's belief in reincarnation means they would not view Suri as Tom's daughter, but as a "spiritual being in Tom's daughter's body."

Tom has denied these claims, stating his busy work schedule has prevented them from spending time together. The physical distance also doesn't help, since Suri lives in New York City and Tom has made London his primary base.

Tom Cruise is interested in dating Angelina Jolie, who is also an A-list celebrity, a new report claimed.

In order to determine whether or not their relationship has the potential to develop into something more, the actor, who is 61 years old, is of the opinion that Angelina, who is 49 years old, is his "perfect match."

“Over the past few years, they’ve had conversations about working together, it’s just about finding the right project. And lately, Ange has seemed more open to getting to know him socially, too,” an unnamed source told New Idea Magazine .

Tom raves about Ange’s intellect and what a strong, impressive woman she is. His goal is to convince her to work with him, then he’ll romance her,” the insider claimed.

The news comes after Tom’s ended his brief romance with Russian-born Elsina Khayrova in February. Angelina, meanwhile, has been quiet on the dating front since splitting from Brad Pitt in 2016.

Instead, Angelina has focused on her six children. But with the kids growing up, Angelina is ready to embrace her next life stage.

“Their mutual friends could see this happening,” an informant told Heat UK .

Meanwhile, Angelina was accompanied by her daughter Vivienne, who was 15 years old at the time and had assisted her mother in producing the Broadway production The Outsiders, on the red carpet. There have been twelve Tony Award nominations submitted for the musical, which is based on the young adult novel and film of the same name.

Jamestown Revival, a folk duo, contributed their songs to the performance. Angelina and her daughter chose to co-ordinate their attire for the big event, and they both wore teal suits that matched one other.

The gorgeous velvet gown that Angelina wore was designed by Versace. It features ruching at the bust and waist, which gives the impression that the actor is a Greek statue. While wearing the strapless dress, Angelina accessorized it with a velvet shawl that matched the outfit. The shawl was draped down at her elbows and wrists, and it flowed freely off her shoulders.

A Briony Raymond Vintage Yellow Gold and Diamond Ring by Cartier, matching teal bracelets, and a huge silver bangle bracelet from Alexis Bittar were the accessories that Angelina wore to compliment the dark aquamarine look, as per Harper's Bazaar .

At her bust, precisely at the point where the neckline of her gown dipped down into a cowl, Angelina appeared to be bragging about a temporary tattoo in the shape of a dove that was made of shiny gold. Her refined appearance was completed by a pair of little gold hoops.

Angelina chose to wear her highlighted brown hair down in a simple blowout and opted for her typical makeup look, which consisted of smokey brown eyeshadow, heavy eyeliner, and a pink gloss. She was holding her daughter's hand as she made her way down the glittering red carpet.

The cyan ensemble that Vivienne wore was an attempt at a more laid-back style. The young producer wore a teal vest over a white button-down shirt, which she teamed with a pair of pants that matched the button-down shirt.

She rounded off her suit with a pair of black Converse sneakers, and a blue bowtie was the finishing touch that brought her look together. Although she had previously been credited as "Vivienne Jolie-Pitt," she decided to change her name to "Vivienne Jolie" in the Playbill catalog.

In the same way as her older sister Shiloh did, she has also abandoned her father's surname. It was just earlier this month, on Shiloh's 18th birthday, that she submitted the necessary documents to the court in order to request that her name be changed legally.

Another of the former couple's adopted children, Zahara, has been going by the name Zahara Jolie (without Pitt), and she has been doing so exclusively. A recent performance that she gave for her college sorority was the first time that she presented herself without her hyphenated surname. Instead, she just went by the name "Zahara Marley Jolie."

Both Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie have yet to comment on the claims that they could make a perfect couple.

Shakira insists she isn’t focused on dating at the moment after sparking rumors with multiple famous men, including Tom Cruise and Lewis Hamilton.

“I’m not thinking about that,” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer, 47, told Rolling Stone for her July–August 2024 cover story, published Thursday.

She then asked, “What space do I have for a man right now?”

While she’s happily enjoying single life now, Shakira is open to dating at some point in the future.

“What can I tell you, I like men,” she said. “That’s the problem. I shouldn’t like them with everything that’s happened to me, but imagine how much I like men that I still like them.”

The “Waka Waka” artist, who broke up with longtime partner Gerard Piqué  amid rumors he had cheated on her , admitted she is not ready for a “formal relationship” right now.

“I think my kids would have to be very prepared for that, and their emotional and psychological well-being is the priority,” she told the magazine.

Shakira did, however, suggest that she would consider a more casual dating situation.

“Hey, I’m not opposed to having friends,” she said.

The Grammy winner and Piqué, 37, announced their split in June 2022 after 11 years together. They share two sons: Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the former couple said in a joint statement at the time. “For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”

Shakira hinted at the former soccer player’s infidelity after their split and has openly discussed feeling betrayed by him .

Piqué has expressed zero regrets over their fallout and moved on with new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti .

The “Whenever, Wherever” singer has also since put their failed relationship behind her.

Sean Penn Looks Back on Friendship with Tom Cruise, Including Being 'Jogging Partners' Together

Sean Penn recalled being “jogging partners” with his ‘Taps’ costar Tom Cruise

Sean Penn and Tom Cruise ’s friendship goes way back. 

On the June 18 episode of the Fail Better with David Duchovny podcast, Penn, 63, remembered becoming close with Cruise, 61, while filming Taps , their first big project.

The 1981 military thriller starring Timothy Hutton and George C. Scott was “the first big movie” of Penn’s career, as he noted to podcast host David Duchovny , 63. The same was true for Cruise, who had made his feature film debut in Endless Love that same year. 

“Tom and I come back to California after the movie's done,” narrated Penn. “We were spending a lot of time together.”

He added that “at that time,” the two eventual superstars were “jogging partners.”

Penn said that film's director, Harold Becker “is as much as anyone responsible for my career, and I love him. But, boy, as a young actor, I must have driven him crazy.”

Penn, who went on to steal the show in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High and become a two-time Oscar winner for 2003's Mystic River and 2008's Milk , has brought up fond memories involving his longtime friendship with Cruise in several interviews. 

Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel in 2015, Penn confirmed that he picked up the Top Gun star from the airport upon his first landing in Los Angeles.

“We had made a movie together, basically the first movie I ever did… we had just spent a bunch of time together in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania,” he said of Taps . To introduce Cruise to Hollywood, Penn proceeded to take him to check out Lucille Ball’s house.

In 2020, Penn told Howard Stern that the duo ran into John Belushi while "standing on an empty street, late at night.” In a convertible, the Saturday Night Live star “pulled up and asked for directions to the Chateau Mormont.” Penn recalled that he and Cruise answered, “‘You know where the Chateau Mormont is.’ [Belushi] laughed and he pulled away.”

Curtis Armstrong , Cruise’s costar in 1983’s Risky Business , detailed Penn and Cruise’s tight friendship in his 2017 memoir Revenge of the Nerd . He wrote that Cruise “admired [Penn] enormously. He admitted to me that he was intimidated by Sean’s talent and even then, in 1982, believed him to be the greatest actor of his generation.”

Penn stars opposite Dakota Johnson in the new film Daddio, in theaters June 28.
