50 Words or Less

The Graphite Designs Tour AD DI shaft feels great and put up some spectacular numbers.  Easy to see why it’s such a hit on the PGA Tour.

Check out the low launch, low spin Tour AD VF HERE

Introduction

The goal of any manufacturer is to build hype around their product organically.  Smothering the consumer with ads is fine, but it’s nothing compared to the consumer seeing all of their friends talking about and using a product.  That latter scenario is what seemed to happen overnight with the Graphite Designs Tour AD DI shaft.

From Charles Howell III to Tiger Woods to Adam Scott, it felt like every PGA Tour pro was playing the orange “Deep Impact,” and every forum was chattering about it.  The momentum continues to the 2016-2017 season as Hideki Matsuyama uses one in his driver to stack up wins.  We put this tour-proven shaft through the paces to see how it performs for those of us without PGA Tour swings.

Love the AD DI but want something new?  Check out the Graphite Design Tour AD UB HERE

Graphite Designs has a formula for the graphics of their Tour AD shafts, and the DI doesn’t vary from it.  It’s primarily one solid color with some rings in the mid-butt area and very simple graphics .  While some of the colors are bold, the graphics are no nonsense.

Unlike most of their line up, the AD DI does come in two flavors: black and the signature orange .  Go stealth or stand out, the choice is yours.

Somehow I missed out on the AD DI craze a couple years ago, but after one swing I immediately understood what all the fuss was about.  This shaft has a tremendous kick to it, but it never feels out of control.  The company’s description is “Medium” in the butt and mid and “Stiff” in the tip, which matches my assessment exactly.  You get a smooth, powerful kick through impact, but the tip doesn’t feel loose or torque-y, even on mishits.

As an aside, kudos to Graphite Designs for taking all the voodoo out of shaft descriptions.  For each of their shafts, they describe the butt, mid, and tip sections on a scale that ranges from “Very Stiff” to “Soft.”  This makes it easy to figure out what you might like and what you want to try next.

Performance

When I love the feel of a shaft, chances are its going to perform well for me.  That was certainly the case with the Graphite Designs AD DI.

I started my testing with the stiff flex version of the AD DI.  The smooth kick made me feel like I was delivering effortless power to the ball, and the results were very solid.  When I bumped up to the X flex, things got even better.  The kick was slightly less pronounced, as you’d expect, but the consistency of the results was through the roof.  Every shot was near the center of the face, and the monitor was showing the same push-draw time after time .

For players who haven’t hit Graphite Designs shafts and can’t make use of their feel chart, I would say that the AD DI is a mix of the Diamana Blue and White shafts.  It has the smooth feel and pronounced kick of the blue with the strong tip of the white.  For me, that adds up to great consistency with tremendous feel .

graphite-designs-ad-di_0033

Prior to this review, my experience with  Graphite Designs  shafts had been minimal, but now the AD DI is making a serious push to go in the bag.  It blends some of the best attributes of my favorite shafts, and the performance simply can’t be argued with.  Waiting to get this into play is just one more reason that this winter is going to feel really long.

First of all, I thank you for your website. Passionate about golf and about gear of golf , you are for me , the website number one on the subject .

I particularly appreciated your review of the ADDI shaft. GRAPHITE DESIGN being one of my favorite trademarks. I hope that others tests of the range are going to follow. Thank you again ! Excuse-me for my broken English. Patrick

Hey Matt, always enjoy reading your reviews. This GD Tour AD DI is a shaft I keep hearing about and seeing in clubs over the years. It was no surprise to hear you were impressed by it, but it was really interesting to see that you were concentrating on the proper flex for yourself(S vs. XS). With that said, I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Stiff shaft. I know you will ultimately fall back on getting fit….understood. But given what you experienced for yourself, which appeared to be that you need the XS shaft for your swing speed to maximize accuracy, what would you venture the S flex would be good for in terms of swing speed? Assuming a smooth swing and 102-103 mph….S flex? Once again, I know a fitting is absolutely a must, but what swing speed range do you think might benefit best from the S flex AD DI shaft?

' src=

The thing that impressed me about the AD DI is that I could have been very happy playing the S, I just preferred the shot shape with the X. The S is also so smooth, I think it could work all the way down to, perhaps 95 MPH. Around 100 MPH is probably the sweet spot.

' src=

Matt, surprised it has taken so long to try out this iconic shaft. I am 100 SS and the GD DI 60 Stiff is the shaft I keep coming back to. Best feel yet never seems overpowered. Also agreed with the comment that it sits between the Diamana Blue and White. More stable than the Blue and more feel than the White.

And if you want that next level of stiffness / low ball flight try the BB. I noticed Kaymer just moved from DI to BB in driver, but kept DI in other woods. It also comes in Black which I think was a special order/ request from Adam Scott a few years back.

First of all I thank you for your site !

For me you are the number one ! I particularly appreciated your review of the ADDI ; GD being one of my favorites trademarks I hope that others tests of the range are going to follow

thank you again Patrick ( paris)

We will have a review of the AD TP coming soon and hopefully more to follow after that. Any models in particular that you’re interested in?

Thank you Matt !

a review of the AD TP would be perfect ! AD MT too !

' src=

Thanks, Matt. As it is often said the shaft is the “engine” of the club and the key to proper fitting. For us mere mortals, may I presume that this shaft also comes in a “Regular” form for slower swing speeds? Thanks again. Steve

Yes, it’s available in R2 (senior) through X.

' src=

I have the AD DI-7s shaft in my TaylorMade 2017 M2 3 wood. It’s the best club I’ve ever owned. My swing speed is around 105mph, yet I feel as if however hard I swing with this shaft, it just copes and continues to deliver. The feel is exquisite. Now all I have to do is see if I can find a driver to put this shaft into!

' src=

Hi Matt, I have just purchased a Ping G400 Max Driver…Reg stock stand.shaft. I am 70 yo on 18 h/c. Would I benefit from fitting an Ad Di Shaft ? In a regular form. My swing speed is around 90 to100. Can I buy in Australia?

I’m not sure who distributes Graphite Design in Australia.

There’s no inherent reason why the AD DI would be better than the stock PING shaft. The only way it would be better is if it’s a better fit for your swing, which you could find out by working with a high quality club fitter.

' src=

Love the podcast!

Are these averages from the S or X flex?

This was a while back but I believe the X was the better fit.

' src=

What was your ball flight with the S?

I’m not going to be able to reliably tell you any more than is in the review, this was written quite a while back.

' src=

Great review. How would you compare this shaft to the Tensei series? Also, in the past have you ever put together a shaft comparison chart?

There are a lot of different profiles in the Tensei series, but overall both the Tensei and Graphite Designs shafts are consistent and high quality. I have not put together a shaft comparison chart because we encourage everyone to be fit.

' src=

Hi Matt, I have the choice of the Di 60g stiff or VENTUS Black 6 60g in New St200 G, VENTUS is newer to market, what do you think.?

I would suggest getting fit and finding the best option for your swing. If you want to know what fits my swing, you can see my WITB here: https://pluggedingolf.com/about/matt-saternus/matts-whats-in-the-bag/

' src=

Hey Matt, Hopefully you still remember the feel of this shaft since it was reviewed a number of years ago…. In the review you stated that the feel was somewhere between Diamana BF and DF. Now I am curious to know whether the feel of the AD DI is similar to the Diamana ZF in your experience since the ZF is considered to be in between DF and BF regarding feel. I know you did the review on the ZF already but maybe I am just looking for a confirmation. Hope you can answer my question, thanks!

Overall, yes, they’re somewhat similar.

' src=

would you recommend AD_D1 7x for a senior who’s swing speed is down?

A 70 gram X flex is not something I would recommend for someone whose speed is going down, unless it’s going down from a truly elite level.

' src=

Are you able to share what head(s) you had conducted this shaft review with? As always appreciate you and plugged in.

Thanks, Mike

I always test with my gamer, the PING G425 Max.

' src=

I demoed the DI-6s with a fitter a while back and he thought it was my best fit from what we had available. However my club head SS is only mid, maybe high 90s, which according to GD suggests a stiff- regular. The fitter doesn’t have a SR with a Ping tip to demo. I’m playing a Ping tour 65 stiff ok right now but the DI was better.

If anything, the DI-6 stiff plays smoother/less demanding than the Ping tour stiff, true? Apparently the DI-6s might play ok down to mid 90s as you mentioned? Otoh worst case, a stiff-regular wouldn’t be flimsy, true?

Thanks for any thoughts…$370 shaft, good grief:-)

Yes, I think the AD-DI will feel softer/smoother than the PING Tour in the same flex. Personally, I would be hesitant to buy anything I hadn’t tested, especially for $370. If you thought the stiff felt good and it worked well, I would stick with that rather than taking a chance on the SR.

' src=

Does anyone have experience with the 105x hybrid/driving iron shaft? Thoughts? Is it “too stiff”?

' src=

Good morning! I wanted to see if you could share a thought or two comparing the Tour AD DI vs the Ventus TR Red. Thanks

I have a full review of the Ventus TR Red here: https://pluggedingolf.com/fujikura-ventus-tr-red-shaft-review/

Shaft Review – Graphite Design TOUR AD IZ

We’ve talked before about Graphite Design’s habit of expanding its popular Tour AD shaft lineu p  each season. Like most in the shaft biz, Graphite Design habitually leverages new materials and new technologies to tweak its profiles and ultimately create more options for golfers.

What’s perhaps interesting about Graphite Design is that it rarely iterates to the degree that requires it to tombstone a perfectly good (and popular) product. That’s the case with its recently released Tour AD IZ. While in many respects the IZ can be thought of as an update to the more than a decade-old Tour AD DI , it’s not a direct replacement. The original orange shaft in the Tour AD lineup isn’t going anywhere.

Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-104

The AD DI is often used by golfers and even some Graphite Design competitors, as a baseline for describing relative shaft performance, and that’s certainly appropriate here. According to Graphite Design, the Tour AD IZ falls somewhere between the higher launching DI and the lower launching Tour AD TP , though its profile and performance are more similar to the former.

If you’re looking for a general frame of reference, compared with the AD, Graphite Design says the IZ is ever so slightly stiffer in the tip and mid sections and bit softer in the butt section.

These are subtle, but appreciable differences, which is exactly what we’d expect from the AD lineup.

GD-wood-shaft-comparison-chart

For those concerned with materials, the Tour AD IZ blends 50t premium graphite along with sections (most notably in the tip) of strategically placed TORAYCA T1100G to provide a stable shaft that the company says offers great feel.

With actual weights range from 46g (IZ 4) to 83g (IZ 8) and several flexes available at each of those weights, Graphite Design has run the count of individual Tour IZ shafts up to 14. Of particular note are the 40g version (available in lite, regular and stiff), and the 50g, which marks the first time a Tour AD shaft is available in a 50 X.

TOUR AD IZ Data Powered by Cool Clubs S3

We’ve partnered with  Cool Clubs , the Golf Industry’s Leading Custom Fit Club Company, to bring you shaft reviews powered by its  Shaft Simulation System (S3) .

s3full

S3 TECHNOLOGIES UTILIZES THE MOST ADVANCED SHAFT TESTING TECHNOLOGY IN THE INDUSTRY. THE SHAFT SIMULATION SYSTEM (S3), WHICH WAS DEVELOPED IN 2013, IS A FULLY-AUTOMATED, ALL-IN-ONE SHAFT PROFILING MACHINE. IN A MATTER OF MINUTES, THE S3 DETERMINES THE FOLLOWING SHAFT SPECS: (STRAIGHTNESS, CONSISTENCY PROFILE, EI PROFILE, CPM ANALYSIS, AND TORQUE). WHILE SOME OF THE AFOREMENTIONED SPECS CAN BE OBTAINED FROM SHAFT MANUFACTURERS, A LACK OF INDUSTRY STANDARDS PREVENTS THAT DATA BEING USED FOR ACCURATE APPLES-TO-APPLES COMPARISONS. S3 TECHNOLOGIES SOLVES THIS CHALLENGE BY TESTING ALL OF OUR PRODUCTS IN-HOUSE USING THE S3. THIS GIVES S3 TECHNOLOGIES A UNIQUE AND IN-DEPTH UNDERSTANDING OF THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF THE INDUSTRY’S SHAFTS.

Not only does S3 give us standardized quantitative information about the shaft(s) being reviewed, the data we share will provide you with a much better sense of how those shafts compare with similarly spec’d offerings on the market.

Tour AD IZ Launch Characteristics

The dark gray line represents the S3 database average for stiff flex shafts in the 60-70g weight range. The light gray line represents a neutral profile, is effectively the baseline for a mid-launch profile.

Based on S3 measurements the Tour AD IZ is classified as a Mid-High launch shaft.

The following chart compares the stiffness of the Graphite Design Tour AD IZ in the butt, mid, and tip sections to the S3 database average of stiff flex shafts in the 60-70g range.

Balance Point

The following chart compares the balance point of the Graphite Design Tour AD IZ to the S3 database average of stiff flex shafts in the 60-70g range.

tour ad black vs orange

The Tour AD IZ has a higher than average balance point. As you may recall from our Golf Geeks Story on Shaft Performance , a higher balance point allows for more head weight without drastically impacting the swingweight. For golfers seeking more distance (admittedly often at the expense of accuracy), this allows drivers to be built to longer playing lengths.

Swing Speed Recommendations

The chart below provides swing speed recommendations for the entire Tour AD IZ lineup.

tour ad black vs orange

Note that these recommendations are based on the full range of Cool Clubs ‘ building and fitting capabilities, including factors such as tipping and build length which can cause a shaft to play either softer or stiffer.

To simplify things a bit, you may wish to narrow these ranges. The sweet spot from a fitting perspective begins 25% from the slow end of the range. As a general rule, players with faster tempos, particularly in transition may fit into a stiff flex, while smoother swingers often fit into a softer flex.

Advice From the Cool Clubs Fitting Team

The new Tour AD IZ Wood shaft is offered in 5 different weight classes (40, 50, 60, 70, and 80), a variety of flexes (from light to X-Stiff), and two bend profiles. These characteristics are designed to help find the right fit for a player based on speed, tempo, and what kind of ball flight they need help producing.

The Tour AD IZ wood shaft will help produce higher launch angles than normal and lower spin (for 4 of the 5 weight classes: IZ-5, -6, -7, and -8). With the shaft having a firmer grip section, a slightly softer mid section, and back to a moderate tip section, this helps load the shaft for efficient energy transfer and higher shots, all while controlling the flight with lower spin rates. The torques on the IZ-6, -7, and -8 are slightly lower than the average of most driver shafts on the market which enhances the stability for those who swing the club a little faster. For players with swing speeds between 95 and 115 mph and a moderate to slightly quicker tempo the IZ-6 shaft will work well. However, if the player has an early release they might want a shaft with a slightly stiffer butt to tip ratio.

Graphite Design Tour AD IZ-105

For players who swing about 90 to 105 mph and average tempo, the IZ-5 is a great shaft to enhance launch if the player needs to hit the ball higher. Relative to other shafts on the market in the same category and swinging at the same speed the IZ-5 will launch the ball higher without excessively increasing the spin.

The lighter weight Tour AD IZ-4 has a slightly different bend profile than the heavier IZ shafts.  Lighter shafts are typically composed of less material which dictates a different profile, and consequently, they will perform differently than their heavier counterparts. While still stable these lighter weight shafts cannot bring spin and launch down like a heavier shaft. The IZ-4 is softer in both the butt and tip sections producing slightly more spin. It launches the ball higher than other shafts in its category and combined with the spin the ball stays in the air longer which works well for those swing speeds requiring a lighter weight shaft as in the 82 to 90 mph range with an easy tempo.

If you need help with height on your driver or fairway woods but don’t want to sacrifice shaft stability, ball control, and feel go test the new Tour AD IZ shaft and get “Into The Zone”!

Information is based on test results of the S flex IZ shafts from Cool Club’s S3 Shaft Explorer with over 2500+ shaft profiles for comparison.

What’s Next?

Gary Gutful

The article states:

“If you’re looking for a general frame of reference, compared with the AD, Graphite Design says the IZ is ever so slightly stiffer in the tip and mid sections and bit softer in the butt section.”

Yet the shaft comparison chart seems to suggest that the DI (Stiff) is stiffer in the tip than the IZ (Firm+).

Confused…

I expect we’re going to see more of this type of contradiction as we do this. It’s basically the difference between how Graphtie Design measures and how S3 measures.

Shaft manufacturers measure shafts different, define regions (butt, mid, tip) differently, and of course, differently from one another. Basically, there’s no industry-wide standard.

S3 gives us common denominator from which to make an apples-to-apples comparison, which may not always align with a given OEMs methods.

Great article. Have used the same GD -DI6s shaft through three different Titleist D3 heads. I keep putting the shaft into each new driver head I purchase. Have not found any other shaft to work as well (although I have evaluated some of the latest offerings). Loved the article’s info that helped to point out the subtle differences in GD’s offerings.

What I would be interested in seeing is a comparison between club manufacturers versions of shafts and the real thing. Example the project X HRZDUS shaft was in a lot of drivers this year with no upgrade fee, the club manufacturers are not going to give you a $400 shaft in a $400 driver. So I’d like to see the diffrence in shafts. Also I game a graphite designe tour ad BB, I’d like to see test on that also

really guys there will never be a standard for shafts it’s what keeps the golf industry going. Read all the data you want it’s not going to be worth spending $300. for a shaft to gain 3 yards, really? it’s all smoke but makes for interesting reading and adds to the chase for the holy grail. dont forget thats why you carry additional clubs to make up for those 3 yards you might lose with the old clubs. look at your game and see where you really left strokes. Kudos to my golf spy they are doing a great job.

Good article. But what I like even better are the comments. I have been fitted for my clubs but I always walk away scratching my head wondering whether or not I’ve really got the optimal club/shaft combination. Particularly the shafts.

My swing seems to vary from outing to outing at least a little. Some days I stripe it, some days I hook it, other days push it, some days my swing speed is a little faster or slower than other days.

So on a different day would the same fitter put me into the same combination? On the same day with the same data would a different fitter put me into something altogether different?

Then I see on of the comments about a guy who has had 5 fittings in 3 years. Really!! I have to draw the conclusion that the first four in a least some way were deficient, at least for him.

So a guy like me who gets fitted every four or five years for a new Driver or longer for a new set of irons is really just shooting in the dark. A fitting is better than no fitting no doubt but the whole deal about club/shaft combinations has to be so fluid that it is discouraging.

Another comment about the lack of standards between manufacturers. I definitely agree with ToppaKrat. But goes even further.

Are the stats for different shaft lines of a single manufacturer rated the same from one line to the next one year to the next? Probably not all the time. So if a single manufacturer can’t get it consistent with in its own product lines, its no wonder that there is such a big difference in standard of measurement throughout the industry.

I’ve had the frequency on my irons checked a few years back just for fun. There were small differences from club to club, but my 7 iron was a bit of an outlier. The shafts were marketed as stiff. The club fitter pronounced them regular.

Go figure!!!

Agree with Jon B. 100%

I want to state regarding my prior comment I applaud My Golf Spy and Cool Clubs for conducting this test. I might also add that the Tour Ad shafts are a real credit to the industry. No question a premium well designed product.

I think we just need to come up with an industry standard for all specs and methods of measurements especially if your considering a $300.00 purchase of a golf shaft. The golf consumer today is confused enough which hurts the entire golf industry including the shaft manufacturers.

Lets clear the air on issues regarding shafts.

The entire shaft industry has no standard of measurement.

That makes all shaft measurements with the exception of length B.S.

Just two of many examples: First, their is NO INDUSTRY STANDARD in measuring TORQUE Torque is measured by one manufacturer I inch from the tip and another company measures at 1!/2 inches from the tip

Second there is no industry standard for FLEX Flex is a term and is only relevant to that manufacturer. The flex in one company’s shaft could be called a regular and another company a firm

If My Golf Spy wants a real challenge why not come up with a universal program for measurements in shafts!

Regarding the first graph in the article “launch parameters”. What is it showing. No labels on axes. Is it numeric data that is plotted and just not labeled, or is it just a visual symbolic representation of launch angle. If it is just symbolic, eliminate the graph and just describe it. Using a graphical representation (rather than a numerically plotted graph) in an article purporting to be based on high tech measurements seems counterproductive.

I’m sure we can add the numbers, but it’s a relative S3 measurement that doesn’t directly align with how golfers typically think about launch. The Mid/Default value shown is always 0. As you move above or farther from 0, classifications change from mid, to mid/high or low, to high or low depending on how far they are from 0.

Again, everything here is essentially relative, so I’m not sure how stating that the Tour IZ has an S3 Launch value of .52 is particularly meaningful to a reader. That said, in this case, we compared a single shaft to the average and the default. In future reviews, we’ll display other comparisons, which should make the graphics more meaningful.

Excellent article, great writing, wonderful new GD product. I do not wish to be a sore thumb but shafts have just a marginal to minimal impact on ones RESULTS.

If you are a high speed swinger , 110+ mph, the shaft is going to give you at best 7 more total yards. If you for example have a negative attack angle with excessive spin, the “lowest spinning” shaft will only knock off a few hundred rpm.

If you have a serious swing flaw , well then you are just wasting your money !! I realize golf is played with 50% of the swing/mechanics between your ears, so if you like a product and feel a premium product will help you , it becomes a self-realizing prophecy.

There are certainly quality and material differences in shafts. I play a Diamana Limited S+ in driver and love the smooth feel. I recently purchased a HZRDUS T800 and have been experimenting with it.

BUT, at my mediocre 90 mph, PERFORMANCE WIZE ON THE COURSE where it counts, the 5 yard or so plus or minus are really not going to change ones handicap !!!!!

Not the distance but the right shaft give you the feel and confident to swing your best shot.

Tony, you asked for feedback on this ‘new’ type of shaft review so here is a point to consider.

You are using the S3 profiling data to establish a measurement based assessment of the shaft’s potential performance, this is all well and good but when you get to the advice on potential player matching the language drops back to the use of terms like tempo and release completely lacking any measurable reference.

Since the bulk of golfers now have access to high frame rate video there is the possibility of adding equally meaningful and measurable data to describe a golfer’s swing. It is even possible to take the precession up a level using the swing timing data from swing analysers such as Sky Pro.

So what in numerical terms (milliseconds) constitutes a fast / slow tempo? What constitutes an early / late release (downswing milliseconds)? What about the time taken to fully release the club (release rate)?

Benchmarking the swing makes the same sense as benchmarking the shaft.

Keep up the good work, but this is a very complex subject.

P.S. Watch out that these articles don’t start to read like an advertising vehicle for Cool Clubs.

Now i like these thoughts that Davemac is saying — that would be REALLY cool to get time measurements at different points in the swing. I’d bet that would be some really fascinating info, that could actually be compared to every golfer.

Love the sound of the IZ5. You could send one my way for complete testing & review! I even have a tip waiting for it :)

Tom Duckworth

I love the testing system and I’m looking forward to what comes from this partnership. However the swing speed speed chart was almost unreadable for me the thin lines and some of the colors were pretty close to one another. It just made it very hard to tell what line went with what shaft. Maybe it’s my age or maybe it’s my screen but some letters by each line would have helped. This is really the light that needs to be shined on shaft design if the OEMs won’t come up with standards it great to have some kind of baseline info from someone. This is one of your best partnerships.

totally agree w Tom.

Jon Silverberg

Not only do I agree with Tom, I’ll go further: Many men have some degree of red-green color blindness and, all too often, information displays present data in a way which ignores that fact. Please add numbers or letters to link the lines in the graph to the lines on the legend. Thank you.

Fitted 5-Times

Great information in this review. I’ve never come across this type of information for Fairway specific shafts. All one hears is the standard (and in my opinion grossly wrong) recommendations of FW shafts being same as driver shaft but 10 gm heavier etc. FW is usually the toughest club to fit, at least it has been for me during 5 fittings over 3 years.

Since Cool Clubs is a big proponent of Accra and developed the S3 alongside Accra, I’d like to see reviews of Accra’s FW specific shafts plus a few others in the market. 1. Accra FX200-F and Accra FX300-F fairway shafts 2. Graphite Design AD-F series fairway shaft 3. Mitsubishi Diamana Thump fairway shaft 4. Paderson KINETIXX KG Fairway shafts (3-4 different fairway specific shafts)

I like the chart for swing speed recommendations. Wish there was more info on what type of golfer would want a shaft with a firm or soft mid shaft, or a firm or softer butt stiffness. A golfer with a slower swing speed but a very rapid tempo might need a stiffer shaft than one who swings faster but with a slower, smoother tempo. I do like that Graphite Design has a shaft between Stiff and Regular. I often find myself in that category, and neither shaft works well as far as the stock shafts off the rack. I wonder how many shafts they test of each model. High end shafts like these have good consistency. Cheap shafts, like many stock shafts, can have great deviation between even the same flex shafts of same model. I recall a test of some TaylorMade stock shafts a few years back, and the same flex and model shafts had frequency differences of 15-20 cpms, which is two full flexes despite the letter written on the shaft giving one the impression they were all the same.

Love the new review format, well done! John

Congrats on the article, very well written. Question here in Spain,

If I hit with a 7 seven iron at 91-94 mph with it 165 yards to 188 carry (, I m using now a diamana S-plus 50 stiff on my epic driver) is it some risk to order one of this without been able to prove it.

I do not have the swing speed with my driver. Can you extrapolate, to the driver speed. m 6,3 or 184 m2 and weight 110 kilos, hit about 250 meters max with driver…when well hit. is it worth transtioning to ad IZ 5s or 6S.

Carlsbad, CA – February 2, 2021 Pro’s Choice Golf Shafts, Inc. announced today that the newly refreshed black and white graphics version of the Graphite Design Tour AD DI wood shafts will be available today at all of their authorized dealers, golf club OEM manufacturers and retail locations.

“Graphite Design has revamped the Tour AD DI Black Wood graphics to include the modernized Tour AD logo in order to give them a fresh, new look for the 2021 season.   The specifications of the Tour AD DI Black shafts will remain the same and you can count on the ever-popular Tour AD DI Black wood shafts to perform just the same as the older cosmetic version shafts”, stated Bill McPherson, V.P. of Sales, Pro’s Choice Golf Shafts, Inc.

tour ad black vs orange

The Tour AD DI “DEEP IMPACT” is designed to provide golfers with more power and stability their golf shaft.  Designed and manufactured exclusively at the Graphite Design factory headquarters in Japan, the Tour AD DI orange and the Tour AD DI black models both received refreshed cosmetics and are available in 50g R2 (Lite), R1 (Regular) and S flex, 60g SR (Stiff Regular), S, X and TX (Tour X-Stiff) flex, 70g S, X and TX (Tour X-Stiff) flex and 80g S, X and TX (Tour X-Stiff) flex.  The unique shaft profile and designs of the Tour AD DI wood shafts remain exactly the same and only the cosmetics have been re-freshened.

The Tour AD DI 5-R2, R1 and S flex, 6-SR, S and X flex, 7-S and X flex and 8-S and X are available in two color schemes orange with white bands and green rings and a 2nd color option of black with white bands and silver rings.  The Tour AD DI 6-TX, 7-TX, 8-TX and 9-X flex shafts are available only in the orange color scheme.

The Tour AD DI is our first shaft design that was integrated with Toray Company’s original NANOALLOY material technology in the tip section of the shaft.  This material technology has now come to be known as “DI Technology”.  This unique material technology promotes additionally shaft stability without the loss of feel and allows the player to create greater club head speed resulting in greater ball speed while still providing exceptional feel and control.

The Tour AD DI also utilizes premium, aerospace quality 50t carbon-fiber materials to provide the best performing shaft available. The softer mid-section bend profile of the Tour AD DI allows the player to load the shaft properly, yet it maintains a firm enough tip section through impact promoting a high launch and low spin ball flight condition.  The result, the Tour AD DI delivers players to the next level in shaft performance and will create a “DEEP IMPACT” on your game!

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Review – Specs, Flex, Weight

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft

The Tour AD DI Hybrid shaft boasts some of the same technologies as shafts produced by more well-known brands.

It has a lot to offer…for the right kind of player. Are you a good fit for this hybrid graphite/carbon fiber shaft?

Find out as I tell you about my experience testing the Tour AD DI.

Tour AD DI Shaft Overview

I have tested one or two Tour AD shafts in the past and the Tour AD DI Hybrid has the same visual effect as the others.

To put it frankly, the Tour AD DI Hybrid looks very busy. It has a metallic white/orange color scheme but it’s the labeling that really stands out.

The brand name, model name, flex and weight indications are all in different fonts which gives the shaft a rather hectic look.

But I loved the feel of this shaft so much that I was easily able to overlook its rather noisy look.

The Tour AD DI has a progressively stiff bend profile: it’s stiff in the tip, a bit lighter in the midsection and soft in the butt.

This creates a very smooth transition even when you really load up on it. I particularly loved the stiff tip section because it allowed for accuracy that you don’t often get in such an active shaft.

The Tour AD DI Hybrid comes in four weight classes: 75g, 85g, 95g and 105g.

The range of weights makes this shaft a good option for players of all skill levels. After all, who couldn’t benefit from superb smoothness and accuracy akin to much stiffer shafts?

Why is the Tour AD DI So Popular?

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft2

The Tour AD DI feels fast even if you don’t swing fast.

It feels fluid through transition and through the ball so you don’t waste a drop of swing speed energy.

And my numbers were the proof. During testing, my smash factor stayed between the 1.3 and 1.4 range.

So I would reckon that part of what makes this shaft so popular is its uncanny ability to transfer swing energy into the ball

How Does the Tour AD DI Hybrid Perform?

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft1

I tested the Tour AD DI Hybrid 85g in stiff flex.

The first thing I do when testing any shaft is bend it between both hands. Surprisingly, this gives me a good idea of how it’s going to perform.

The Tour AD DI Hybrid didn’t bend so easily under the force of my hands so I thought, at first, that it would play a bit stiff and boardy.

Well, it might be time to re-think my hand bend practice because it did not indicate the performance of this shaft.

The Tour AD DI Hybrid, even in stiff flex felt remarkably smooth but gave the accuracy of a stiff shaft.

I plugged the Tour AD DI into my 4-hybrid and my spin rates stayed in the 3500 and 400 RPM spin range. This allowed me to thread the needle on narrow fairways and deftly avoid hazards.

The torque was perfect for me but you can get less or more torque just by choosing a higher or lower weight class.

So we know that the Tour AD DI offers great club head speed (smash factor), keeps spin low and allows for straight flight.

Now let’s talk about distance. My average carry with the Tour AD DI was 164.5 yards. The rollout was pronounced due to the low spin so my average total distance was 180.9 yards.

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Specs

What flexes are available what swing speeds do they suit.

Regular is a good flex for 70-80 MPH swingers.

Stiff is good for about 81-95 MPH swingers and extra stiff for 96-105 MPH swingers.

What Weights Are Available? What Swing Speeds Do They Suit?

The 75g and 85g weights should cover players in the 70-90 MPH swing speed range while the 95g and 105g weights would work for players in the 91-105 MPH swing speed range.

Why is it So Good?

The Tour AD DI Hybrid is a good shaft because it combines distance with accuracy.

It feels fluid and pliable which also helps when you need to finagle the shaft in order to dig the ball out of the rough.

Tour AD DI Hybrid First Impressions

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft3

At first, I thought the Tour AD DI would be too boardy in stiff flex.

But that was not the case at all. The Tour AD DI ended up being exceptionally fast without sending the ball spinning off-line.

Key Features & Performance

The Tour AD DI features a carbon/graphite design that allows for incredible stability in a lightweight package.

The tip has been stiffened to offer better club head control at impact as well.

Tour AD DI Hybrid Review

I tested this shaft with my 4H but I actually think it would work better in a 3H when you need that extra distance. It offers a nice, mid launch that can easily be worked a bit higher.

Tour AD DI Hybrid Pros & Cons

  • Great smash factor
  • Smooth transition
  • Offers straight flight
  • Great distance
  • Workable in the rough
  • Stopping power isn’t great
  • Busy graphics and lettering

Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft

Overall Score: 97/100

Who Should Buy it?

To be honest, I might have given this shaft a perfect score if not for the lack of stopping power.

This isn’t the shaft you want to plug into your hybrids if you’re attacking a lot of greens with them.

But for the rest of us mortals, the Tour AD DI Hybrid is fantastic for garnering extra distance.

This is more-or-less a point-and-shoot shaft as well so it will help anyone who is struggling with accuracy.

Plus, it comes in a wide variety of weights and flexes so it is viable for many different swing speeds.

Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft Review

This shaft will win the victory as your gamer.

I love fall golf for many reasons, but one in particular is the Launch (pun intended) of the new Graphite Design Wood Shafts. I have used the Brand New for 2024 Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft for 15 rounds of golf and simulator testing with outstanding results.

This is the definitive Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft review.

This shaft was featured #2 in Our Best Driver Shafts 2024 article .

IMG_2594

New in 24’ Every V ictory will have a driving F orce with the Tour AD VF . Well known for high performance and premium golf shafts, the engineers at Graphite Design are continuously seeking to produce the optimal shaft for your game. With 5 weight options and 6 flex designations, the Tour AD VF shaft could be your Driving Force to Victory soon. Available 10/6/23 and already in play on the PGA Tour.

Jeopardy Style: “An unmistakable pattern of jet black and red rings on a shaft used for amazing Tour level Accuracy and Distance in golf.” “What is the NEW Tour AD VF ?”  Black and Red had been Sunday colors to me, but every day is Jet Black and Cherry Red now with the Graphite Design Tour AD VF . These colors POP and this shaft will match any club with style.

Stout and Crisp is how I would describe the new Tour AD VF shaft. Feel is always subject to the person making the comments, but this shaft is built for the golfer wanting to tighten up the loading and unloading feel. The profile of the new Tour AD VF is a contrast to most other shafts in the family. With a Firm+ (Butt Section), Stiff (Mid Section) and Very Stiff (Tip Section) this is one of the stiffest shafts we’ve seen for some time out of Graphite Design. I like how all the shafts for Graphite Design can be compared by Stiffness using the 3 zones of the shaft. From the perspective of a Fitter, the entire line up of Graphite Design shafts are laid out, so before you even try the shaft you can identify the key elements you need for the best fit.

Performance

The new Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft is designed to produce Low/Mid launch angles and Low-ball spin rates. After playing the 23’ Tour AD CQ since last fall, I found my Accuracy and Distance increased greatly. I’ve hit the driver this year with some of my personal best results, which I attribute to having a great head and shaft combination for my swing. The Tour AD VF , has a slightly lower launch angle, so I was able to turn up the loft on my driver and gain an advantage in peak high without as much spin. The stability of the shaft produced even more personal best yardages, both longer and straighter. Just when I think they have an incredible shaft for my driver, they come up with another one that works exceptionally well!

tour ad black vs orange

The new Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft utilizes the same TORAYCA ® T1100G carbon-fiber pre-preg with NANOALLOY ® technology as several Tour AD shafts from recent years. This provides the tip section of the shaft with additional shaft stability, exceptional feel and precise ball control.

The Tour AD VF also utilizes TORAYCA ® M40X carbon-fiber pre-preg in the Mid to Tip section of the shaft as did the XC model in 2020. This strength in transition from Mid to Tip helps create a Low/Mid Launch and Low Spin characteristics, as well as give the shaft rotational stability for added consistency in shot dispersion.

Along with TORAYCA ® and NANOALLOY ® is Graphite Design’s proprietary M aterial S tiffness I ntegration ( MSI ) design philosophy and technology. The way each layer of material is used helps create the unmistakable feel and performance in all Graphite Design shafts. This attention to detail in production is what makes Graphite Design one of the industry leaders.

tour ad black vs orange

With 35 years of Tour proven A ccuracy & D istance… Maybe it’s time for you to experience the difference a premium, Graphite Design shaft can make! Many factors go into finding the optimal shaft for your swing, find an Authorized Dealer to help you get the right Tour AD shaft in your club.

If you are not “gaming” a Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft you might be leaving yards and accuracy on the table, and most certainly missing out on the amazing feel that is found in all Graphite Design Shafts.  The VF wants to give you Victory Force on every tee.

Graphite Design Tour AD VF Shaft Review

Lucky for us, Graphite Design has released a second shaft in 2023 – the Tour AD VF “Victory Force.” This sleek black and red shat fits the low spin, low-to-mid launch profile and one of the stiffest tip sections out of all their offerings.  As you come to expect, the AD VF offers the best of modern materials in Japanese golf design and manufacturing.

Looks 5

It’s been a few iterations since we’ve seen the boldest and most vibrant Graphite Design graphics show up! In previous years, we had the iconic and vibrant Tour AD DI, older classics like the highlighter yellow AD MT, or the shimmering turquoise AD UB . Like this year’s other earlier release in the AD CQ , this shaft comes in with a glossy black base color. The new Tour AD VF is accented by a deep red…

My opinion is that it’s traditional and classy, and very understated. A bit “stealthy” if you get what I’m saying. Depending on your level of nerdiness, you can even think of it as a Sith Lightsaber too!

Graphite Tour AD VF 3

How Does it Feel?

The Graphite Design Tour AD VF has, in my opinion, one of the more unique feels of any shaft that the company offers. This company has attained a reputation for smoothness which you’ll often hear people comment on regardless of which shaft you choose from the family. You never hear “boardy” or “unstable” or “loose” when talking about Graphite Design.

For the AD VF, the company has created a profile that moves from firm to very stiff (their terms) as you move from the handle to the tip. They’re using TORAYCA M40X and T1100G carbon fiber materials to create those sensations in this shaft. And yeah, you can feel that. For me, the AD VF has the expected smooth feel, but a much more satisfying kick at the end. I think back a few years to the AD XC which also started softer at the handle and gradually stiffened to the tip. Having it just a bit tighter in the hands really makes this one fun.

Graphite Tour AD VF 1

On-Course Performance

I got a chance to spend two weeks testing my current favorite, the Graphite Design AD CQ, alongside the AD VF at my home away from home, Marquette Golf Club’s Greywalls course. It’s a demanding driving course and while length is not imperative, hitting the right shot shapes is a must. I tried to hit bombs, tried to flight it, and quite possibly mixed in a few absolute stinkers in there too.

While Graphite Design slots this in as a low to mid flight shaft, I felt my stock swing here kept it closer to mid than low. Good shots started low, but it seemed to keep rising to nearly the same peaks and windows as the AD CQ (which is a much higher launching profile on paper). Visually, I did not think this spun as much as the AD CQ either, but it didn’t cruise through the wind like the lowest of the low spin shafts I’ve hit. I’m not a huge swing speed player, so the truly fast players may experience it slightly different.

The adjustment period I had with this one was getting rid of the big slice. That very stiff tip sometimes makes it hard to close the club face, but that’s more of my issue! I’d even say that it helps keep that left side out of play for me. I felt like I could give the AD VF everything I had. It held up well to both aggressive swings, but I could also finesse it as needed. I found I could flight it low pretty easily, which is nice… and also something I cannot do with the AD CQ!

Can Bill test this shaft out since you mentioned it maybe a bit too stiff tip for you? Itll be nice to have a perspective from the higher speed player that is accustomed to this profile

' src=

I don’t think my perspective would really change anything. The point Jon makes is valid in that the tip section is stiffer and would translate into a different player’s swing. That experience, in my opinion, makes it an applicable “real world” review.

Plus, there’s not enough time in the day for us to double up the reviews 🙂

' src=

I’ll send it over to Ol Bill’s Clubratory for an adapter change and give him a few whacks if he likes! He does bring a bit more heat than me (probably because as old washed up hockey players he was a forward and I was a mere goalie) but we’ve both gotten good use out of shafts with wildly different profiles along the way.

However, the cool thing about Graphite Design is that they’re one of the most fine-tuneable golf shafts out there. This one was a 5x, but I’ve played 6x and 7x in Graphite Design shafts before and gotten great results. The tip stiffness is for sure a main feature of the AD VF. It tested well for me, but on game day, I’ve typically been going with the AD CQ or the AD VR… again two wildly different profiles. Pays off to test em all!

Shaft Test: Graphite Design’s new Tour AD-TP versus the famous Tour AD-DI

tour ad black vs orange

With a similar profile to the company’s famous Tour AD-DI shaft, and a few new technologies for a slightly different ball flight, Graphite Design’s new Tour AD-TP shaft will surely entice a legion of high-spin golfers.

The new shafts are made for a mid launch and low spin rates, according to Graphite Design’s website, while the Tour AD-DI shafts are made for mid/high to high launch angles and low to low/mid spin rates. Certainly, they are in the same wheelhouse, but for anyone looking to create a slightly more penetrating ball flight with lower launch and lower spin, the new shaft could be their winning ticket.

Tour_AD_TP_Hero

To accomplish its performance, the AD-TP shafts are made with a faster taper rate from the lower-mid section to the tip of the shaft, and use an all-new graphite material from Toray Industries called T1100G carbon fiber pre-preg. They also use Toray’s Nanoalloy technology in the tip section, which was first introduced in Graphite Design’s Tour AD-DI. It help golfers gain more control of the club face by resisting torque.  Read more about the Tour AD-TP shaft’s tech here .

Here’s the bend profile of the Tour AD-TP shafts, according to Graphite Design’s website:

GraphiteDesignTourADshafts

And here’s how the Tour AD-TP shafts stack up versus the other Tour AD shafts:

Screen Shot 2016-10-26 at 12.13.37 PM

As you can see, the Tour AD-TP (top row) compared to the Tour AD-DI (bottom row) will have a firmer mid and butt section, but will also have the familiar stiff tip section.

Personally, I’ve tested just about every new mainstream driver shaft that’s come out in the past three years, and I just haven’t been able to find something that matches my swing like the Tour AD-DI. As a golfer who fights a nasty hook and too much spin, it’s the stiffness and stability of the tip of the shaft that makes me comfortable enough to “go at it.” I’m also a Mets fan, so I like the orange color.

But for whatever reason, my golfing brain finds other shafts to load and unload way differently, either forcing me to flip or block drives, leading to tragic results. So although I often test the latest and greatest golf shafts for you, the GolfWRX readers, I’ve all but given up on other shafts making it into my gamer driver. Yes, other shafts have given me “more optimal” numbers in a Trackman environment, but there’s nothing optimal about feeling like you’re going to duck hook the ball off the planet with OB stakes left.

When Graphite Design announced a new shaft with a similar profile that’s made to create a slightly more penetrating trajectory, however, I’ll admit I was excited to try it. Let’s see how the numbers played out.

The Numbers

AD_TP_DI_7X

I tested my Tour AD-DI gamer shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) against a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, untipped) and a Tour AD-TP shaft (45.5 inches, tipped 1 inch) in a TaylorMade M1 460 head (10.5 degrees) set to neutral. Yes, I have a bit more swing speed in the tank than displayed below, but it’s also late October and I don’t want to have a blown out back all winter. I conducted my testing at the Launch Pad at Carl’s Golfland on TrackMan 4 using premium golf balls.

GDDriverShafts20162_arrows

Magenta = Tour AD-TP (tipped 1 inch)

Observations

— Shots with the un-tipped shaft trended to the right. It felt like the face was opening on the downswing and I couldn’t turn my shots over. The data solidifies for me that performance matches my feel, and that I do indeed need a tipped shaft.

— The AD-DI shaft had the highest spin (2953 rpm), highest landing angle, most height (122.1 feet) and launched the highest (13.7 degrees).

— The AD-TP (tipped 1 inch) carried 4.9 yards shorter than the Tour AD-DI, but went 3.7 yards longer in total. This shows how much more penetrating the ball flight with a AD-TP shaft can be.

— Spin rate dropped from 2953 rpm with the Tour AD-DI (tipped 1 inch) to 2460 rpm with the AD-TP (tipped 1 inch).

— With nearly identical clubhead speed, ball speed and smash factors, it’s clear the Tour AD-TP was offering better numbers and tighter dispersion for me.

The Takeaway

Accuracy_and_Distance

The Graphite Design Tour AD-TP shaft is currently selling for $500 at retail. Based on the improvement I saw in my numbers, I would say that the new shaft is worth the value for my swing. The profile and new materials are a match for me in regards to ball flight characteristics and feel. I would describe the feel as “smooth-stiff, with a stable tip.”

Of course, it’s important to undergo a proper fitting, as you saw that the un-tipped version of the Tour AD-GP shaft was giving me fits. But, if you’re like me and struggle with high spin rates and inconsistency, the Tour AD-TP shaft may help you find more accuracy… and a bit more distance, too.

Andrew, the author of this review, comments about hitting duck hooks because that is his miss when he uses a shaft that doesn’t “fit” his swing style. It is the same issue I fight. The fact he has peppered the right side of the grid would be comforting for him. All in all, Andrew fits the new TP shaft pretty well.

Some shafts get progressively weaker to the tip (Rogue, AD-DI), many increase stiffness into the tip (most other GD tour AD models, Kuro Kage) To assume all shafts need to be tipped just seems uninformed. Tipping off stiffness in a shaft like a AD-BB is just going to lower the kick point and give you a softer tip; exact opposite of tipping a AD-DI.

Wow the author tried really hard to say this is better. The chart looks pretty much the same for all three shafts as far as landing zone. Just one leftward (I’m guess more of a hook) shot skewed the oval left. Unless he’s a left hander, none of his shots were hooks, rather either push or slices. Strange for him to say that he’s fighting a hook when he didn’t hit any.

The real difference does seem to be one offering more roll and one more carry due to launch angle changes I’m guessing due to the stiffer mid and butt sections. Worth it? The argument seems a bit thin.

Accra launches new GX wood and hybrid shafts

tour ad black vs orange

Accra Golf shafts have long been synonymous with fitting, and the new GX line of driver, fairway, and hybrid shafts continues that legacy.

Since 2004, Accra has been making high-end performance golf shafts that use the latest in materials and design philosophy. Their group of around 350 fitters are some of the best and most highly ranked in the world. While you might see other brands on professional tours more often, there are plenty of touring pros using Accra products and winning.

Accra’s new GX line of shafts is designed to offer a consistent and accurate shaft to a wide range of players. The GX line consists of 3 different shafts in driver, fairway, and hybrid designs.

The Accra GX shafts are designed for fitters to dial in golfers to the perfect shaft for their swing. Accra included a ton of technology into the GX line including their S3 profiling, DyMatch, and Constant Flex technology. DyMatch has been Accra’s quest to ensure that all shafts in a family feel and perform similar from driver to hybrid or iron shaft. Typically shafts get stiffer as they go up in weight, but Accra’s Constant Flex keeps the flex of the shafts consistent so fitters and golfers can dial in the weight that the golfer need without have to work around a stiffer or softer flex. Accra worked with Cool Clubs to build out its S3 Shaft Profiling system that not only allows a quick and easy EI profile of any shaft, it helps with quality control to ensure shafts come out of production exactly as they were designed.

Accra GX Red 300 Series

tour ad black vs orange

GX Red is lowest launching and spinning option in the GX line. Driver shafts have fewer options with just the 360 and 370 models that come in at 63 and 71 grams. The GX Red is made for faster swinging, or stronger, players who require a stiff (M4) or x-stiff (M5) shaft for their swing. Fairway and hybrid models are also on the higher weight side with the fairway clocking in at 80g and 90g for the hybrid. Accra designed this series with one of the stiffest tip sections of any Accra shaft in the current line, and while it is built to control launch and spin, the Red 300 Series will still offer that smooth feel.

Accra GX Green 100 Series

tour ad black vs orange

If your swing usually works best with mid-launch and spin, then the GX Green 200 series might be the right shaft for you. Offered in more weight and flex options, you can get a GX Green in 52 grams and all the way up to 70 grams in regular, stiff, and x-stiff flexes. GX Green will give the player a smooth feel and transition from the handle down to the tip section while still providing great stability and consistency. Accra also focused on the energy transfer of this shaft, and golfers can see some increased ball speed compared to other shafts.

Accra GX Blue 200 Series

tour ad black vs orange

While the GX Blue 100 Series is the highest launching and spinning option in the GX lineup, it will still give golfers the control and consistency they need. Starting off at 40g, the GX Blue series puts an emphasis on lighter weight to allow players to swing the club faster, promoting more distance. Accra touts the stability of the GX 140 Blue driver shaft by stating that some long driver competitors have put it in play to try and gain every MPH they can. Matching fairway and hybrid shafts are both on the lighter side at around 60g for the fairway and 65g for the hybrid depending on the flex.

I settled in on a SIM driver and have an opportunity to get any TaylorMade shaft without an up charge. These are the shafts that interest me the most but I do not have access to any of these shafts currently. Last year I played an M5 with the original Hzrdus black. My swing speed ranges from 112-115 and have plenty of height and spin. Hzrdus produced good numbers but I was hoping to find something with a smoother feel while keep the spin down. Any advice on these shafts compared to the Hzrdus would be greatly appreciated.

The only shaft I cannot speak on is the VB. I played the TPW all last year with a brief 2 month stretch with the TPO. I ordered the SIM with the XC and have been really impressed with it thus far. The VB is a different profile compared to the other 3, but just look at the current thread going on about it and you can see just how many people like it. I hit the TPO all over the lot and it brought in a bigger left miss than what I want to see. The TPW is very good if that's the profile that fits you. Compard to the XC, the TPW feels smoother and spins slightly less. I used the Tour AD BB for several years so the XC was very intriguing and I'm happy I went with it. It launches a touch higher than TPW and paired with the SIM it spins just enough for me.

Thank you for the insight! I’ve been following the VB thread like a hawk. The XC was the real wildcard to it all. I’ve hit the AD IZ a bunch but it’s launches too high and a bit all over.

The XC is basically an updated BB. The PW is like a Whiteboard type of profile, and the PO is a similar bend but with a stiffer tip and a softer butt. The big thing about the PO is it's counterbalanced. I don't know that much about the VB, but all these shafts will feel better than the Hzrdus IMO. The only thing I can tell you for sure -- whatever you go with -- is to specifically order it untipped.

I've been playing the TPW 70TX untipped for a few years now. Have had a few stints with other shafts but keep going back to the TPW. On a whim I ordered my SIM with a XC7 X Flex untipped, just to try it out. I played with it for a a few rounds and hit a decent amount of balls with it and actually really liked the feel of the shaft, it's very unique with a super soft handle but very stable mid / tip areas. I ended back in my TPW primarily because I preferred the flight the TPW generated for me and it was just more consistent for me. TPW has a firmer handle than the XC and has a snappier kick to it while the softer handle in the XC makes it feel like it has a more pronounced kick to it.

From a flight standpoint TPW goes a window lower for me. Never got on a launch monitor with the XC but distance between the two was the same for me, XC launched higher and had a higher peak height, but spin did seem down, but at the end of the day distance was pretty similar. Both shafts are smooth and can't go wrong either way depending on what you like.

Im intrigued by this also. I had the TPO in my driver and had lots of left misses. Tip trimmed it and ended up in my 3w. Currently have the Ventus Black but doesnt seem to be anything too great for me. Extremely stable yes, but ive gotten much better results with other options.... The XC is what im curious about the most. I had a lot of success with the GD BB a few years ago so im sure it would work well for me too

What did you end up getting? I am playing the black right now too and just got a Sim. It doesn't seem like a good match.

I tested the Atmos Black 7x, Rougue Silver 60 TX, Tour AD BB 7x, and Tensei CK Pro White 70 TX along with the stock HZRDS Smoke 70 X this summer. While not a direct comparison for you, the Tensei was the most stable, lowest launching shaft for me personally. Still have it in the driver. Very interested in the Ventus Black as well though... I’ve always been partial to Fuji’s.

I play a XC-7tx in my M5 🚀 3w. Shaft is amazing, super stable and launch is a lot higher than I anticipated with a TX flex. JD @ Jd’s Clubs built it for me.

Tour Ad Di vs. Ad Iz | Which Golf Shaft Should You Choose?

We can compare the shaft with the transmission engine of a car. As bad transmission can cause great suffering for car owners, your performance level will be dramatically reduced if you don’t use the right golf shaft. The Tour Ad Di and the Iz are the two best shaft options.

The core difference between the tour Ad Di and Iz is in the flex. You will find stiff flex with the Tour Ad di. The Iz comes with regular flex. Swing speed should be another consideration regarding  Tour Ad Di Vs Iz.

In the rest of the article, we will cover the difference between the two high-performing golf shafts, which will help you choose the best one.

Tour Ad Di vs. Ad Iz

Overview Of Tour Ad Di Wood Shaft

If you are searching for a proper combination of stability and accuracy, the advanced design Ad Di (Deep Impact) can be a decent option.

Made with 1st generation Toray NANOALLOY (known as Di technology) technology, the golf shaft is entirely up to the mark regarding feel and looks at the same time.

Besides, the medium butt section and the softer tip section make the golf shaft even more convenient for both high and low-handicap players. Multiple colors are available so that you can choose one according to your choice.

The golf shaft is manufactured in a Graphite Design factory which is highly known for introducing impressive golf shafts.

Golfers like Tiger Woods used to carry this shaft. And this is one of the core reasons behind the popularity of the shaft.

tour ad black vs orange

What We Like

  • Available color options (Orange and black)
  • Advanced Di technology.
  • Impressive feel and consistent performance.
  • The proper balance of accuracy and distance.

What We Don’t Like

  • Not suitable for playing straight shots.

Overview Of Tour AD IZ Wood Shafts

The tour Ad Iz (Into the Zone) comes later than the Di. However, experts can’t consider it as replacing the previous one. The tour Ad Di can be more impressive for fast-swing golfers who need more control over their shots.

Made with Graphite Design’s Torayca T1100G carbon fiber material, the wood shafts are well known for enough distance and power.

Besides, the 50-gram ultra-premium high-quality carbon fiber material makes it lightweight, meaning it can produce a more solid feel and ensure optimal performance.

Manufactured by Graphite Design, the shaft has a material stiffness integration design. The wood shaft comes with impressive launch and spin characteristics.

Tour AD IZ

  • Comes with several flex options.
  • Can cover a long distance.
  • Made with Graphite Design’s Torayca T1100G NANOALLOY technology.
  • Stiffer handle, softer midsection, and stiff tip.
  • Unusual rebound effect.

Tour Ad Di Vs Iz Wood Shaft: Quick Comparison Table

Choosing the right gift shaft between the Tour Ad Di and the Iz will seem much easier if you see the head-to-head comparison. Well, there might not be too much of a difference.

But, whatever differences the two shafts have, you can figure out from the following comparison table.

What Are The Differences Between Tour Ad Di and Iz Wood Shaft?

Now we will labor orate the comparison facts mentioned above in the table. You’ll know how the facts impact the performance of the shafts and what shaft to go with, depending on your playing level.

flex

According to expert golfers, the flex should be at the top of the shaft buying guide. The tour Ad Di comes with a stiffer flex except for the Tour Ad Di 5 R1. On the other hand, you’ll see regular flex with the Iz wood shaft.

Now, what does this mean? The more flexible the shaft is, the more it can bend, meaning the shaft is more flexible.

And as we know, the regular flex is more flexible than the stiff flex. So, in the case of the two golf shafts, you will experience more flexibility while playing shots with the Iz compared to Ad Di.

But as there is less flex with the Tour Ad Di, you will have more control and accuracy of your shots with it.

Materials

There’s not much difference between the materials used to manufacture the Tour Ad Di and the Iz.

According to Graphite Design, 50-ton ultra-premium carbon fiber is used along with high modulus and aerospace-quality carbon fiber to make the two graphite wood shafts super convenient for golfers.

At the same time, we have seen the unique design concept named Material Stiffness Integration introduced by Graphite Design to make the two golf shafts. Thanks to the combination of graphite fiber and resin to make things happen.

feel

Both the graphite wood shafts are decent enough for feeling. We haven’t seen many complaints or frustration among the golfers regarding the feel.

In the case of the Tour Ad di, you can experience a bit more kick when you hit the golf ball with the driver.

On the other hand, you will experience less kick in the case of the Iz. To be more precise, you can have a more solid feel when you play shots with the Iz.

Now it’s up to you. Depending on the type of golfer you are, you might like a solid feel or a bit of kick.

At the same time, the Tour Ad Di is medium for the butt section.

On the contrary, the IZ Firm is a butt section. You might go with the golf shafts’ medium or firm butt section, depending on your swing speed.

If you accomplish a slower swing speed, it is good to go with the Tour Ad Di. However, the Tour Ad Iz can produce a slightly more responsive feel.

Length

The length of the golf shaft can be another key consideration when buying a golf shaft. In the case of the Tour Ad Di and the Iz, the length remains all the same, which is 46″.

Well, this is a standard weight where you will find the proper combination of swing speed and accuracy.

The golf shafts come with the length of 45″ is regarded as the standard length more or less for all classes of golfers.

Launch and Spin

Both the types of wood shafts manufactured by Graphite Design come with almost the same launch and spin, which is high launch and low spin.

However, some of the models of these two golf shafts also come with the mid/high launch to low/mid ball spin rate, which is ideally OK.

Now the benefit of a higher launch angle is the ball can cover a lot of ground, meaning allowing the ball to travel through the air for a long time.

And the low spin indicates almost the same. With low spin, you can have more control over your shots. Here, you can choose anyone from the Tour Ad Di and Iz if you only think about the launch and spin.

If you are so enthusiastic about the golf shaft you want to have, the look of the golf shaft might fascinate you.

In terms of the Tour Ad Di, along with the Deep Impact design, you will find a combination of modern and contemporary design with two color options.

You can either go with the matte orange or white color. And at the same time, you notice the re-freshened cosmetics with the Tour Ad Di, which makes the golf shaft even more appealing.

In the case of the Tour Ad Iz, you will find more color variations than the Tour Ad Di. Usually, the Tour AD Iz comes with orange and matte back in color with a bit of orange and black bend out there.

Tour Ad Di or Iz: Which Golf Shaft to Choose?

You now have a decent understanding of the golf shafts or the Tour Ad Di vs Iz discussion.

And as you have come to know, there is no such huge difference in terms of performance between the two golf shafts.

However, you can go with the Tour Ad Iz if you need more swing speed while playing the golf shots.

On the other hand, choosing the Tour Ad Di will make more sense if you want less swing speed and more accuracy and control over your shots.

Moreover, if you want to have the latest golf shafts, then the Tour Ad Iz can be your choice. Then again, it’s all about your personal preference.

Meta Description: Are you looking for a decent discussion about the Tour Ad Di vs Iz? You’ll find it here how one golf shaft sometimes beats another. Have a read.

O.j. simpson dead at 76 after cancer battle.

  • Exclusive Details

10:48 AM PT -- Kato Kaelin -- who was a key witness during the O.J. Simpson trial -- just posted a video responding to the news ... and he sends thoughts and prayers to O.J.'s children, as well as the families of the victims, including Nicole Brown Simpson .

He doesn't say much else about O.J. himself.

10:17 AM PT -- Gloria Allred , who repped Nicole Brown Simpson's family during the trial, tells TMZ ... "Simpson's death reminds us that the legal system even 30 years later is still failing battered women, and that the power of celebrity men to avoid true justice for the harm that they inflict on their wives or significant others is still a major obstacle to the right of women to be free of the gender violence to which they are still subjected."

She adds, "My heart goes out to the children of OJ Simpson and to the very brave family of Nicole Brown Simpson. The truth about OJ Simpson can never be erased and should never be forgotten. OJ Simpson is dead. May his victims finally rest in peace."

8:57 AM PT -- The Goldmans' attorney, David Cook , tells TMZ ... "O.J. died without penance," adding that while he may be gone -- his multi-million-dollar judgment is not ... and the Goldmans are interested in discerning what money/assets he may have left behind that they can collect.

Cook goes on to say they'll be exploring their options now that O.J. Simpson is dead, including figuring out whether he left behind a fund with his estate that they can pounce on.

8:36 AM PT -- Caitlyn Jenner , who used to be close friends with O.J., tells TMZ ... "Good riddance." She has since posted on X .

Good Riddance #OJSimpson — Caitlyn Jenner (@Caitlyn_Jenner) April 11, 2024 @Caitlyn_Jenner

8:20 AM PT -- Tom Lange -- one of the lead detectives who worked on the O.J. murder case -- tells TMZ ... "I have nothing to say, I simply don't care."

O.J. Simpson -- one of the most infamous high-profile Americans of all time -- is dead after a cancer battle.

On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace. -The Simpson Family — O.J. Simpson (@TheRealOJ32) April 11, 2024 @TheRealOJ32

The former NFL great -- who stood trial for the double-murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman , in the '90s, only to be acquitted -- passed away Wednesday in Las Vegas ... this according to his family.

They say he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren when he died Wednesday night. Simpson's attorney also confirmed his death to TMZ.

O.J. had reportedly been battling prostate cancer in recent years, and his health took a turn for the worse of late -- with him landing in hospice care within the past few months.

Word about O.J.'s cancer diagnosis first made the rounds in February, when a local outlet reported it, although the details were hazy ... as was O.J.'s response to the news at the time, when he denied he was in hospice, but didn't address the cancer report.

Never before a game! pic.twitter.com/F0rFCwWQ3n — O.J. Simpson (@TheRealOJ32) May 30, 2023 @TheRealOJ32

Adding to the mystery was the fact O.J. actually touched on a cancer diagnosis in 2023 in a video he posted on X -- when he said he'd "caught" some form of cancer, but suggested he'd beaten it. In any case, the cancer came back and claimed his life about a year later.

O.J. had been looking frail in the lead-up to his passing ... including during an outing in January when he was spotted using a cane.

The last time O.J. posted was a video of himself talking about Super Bowl LVIII, where he said he was rooting for his former team the San Francisco 49ers. He seemed to be in good spirits then. He was seated in the clip and talking from the backyard of a home.

It goes without saying ... O.J.'s life was momentous for a variety of reasons -- lots of good and bad, especially in his later, post-football years. Before that though, he was a beloved all-American hero on the field -- a Heisman winner from USC, and a Buffalo Bills legend.

Even after football ... he was a bona fide A-lister in Hollywood, acting in tons of movies and TV shows ... and famously serving as the face and pitchman for Hertz for many, many years.

Of course ... all of that goodwill left in the 1990s, when he was accused of the heinous murders.

His death marks the end of a multi-decade saga of crime and intrigue surrounding O.J. -- which peaked after the brutal slayings of Nicole and Ron in 1994, and in the aftermath of what was dubbed the Trial of the Century ... when O.J. was prosecuted on national TV.

Even before he was apprehended by police for questioning in the immediate aftermath of the murders ... O.J. led cops on a low-speed chase in his Ford Bronco on L.A. freeways -- a moment that was nationally televised, and one of the most dramatic, shared experiences in modern American history.

Once he was caught, a case started to form with him as the prime suspect. Prosecutors eventually charged him -- alleging O.J. carried out the horrific stabbing deaths of Nicole and Ron at her Brentwood home on June 12, 1994.

O.J. hired a so-called dream team of defense lawyers -- led by the late Johnnie Cochran , who ran point, and helped pick apart the State's case.

A fundamental element Cochran latched onto during the trial was the fact LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman had made racist remarks in the past ... which O.J.'s defense team suggested could've led to him planting a bloody glove found at Simpson's home.

This also led to another pivotal point in the trial, when O.J.'s team requested he be allowed to try on the gloves in court for the jury, and they ended up not fitting him perfectly.

That prompted Cochran to eventually utter the famous line, during closing arguments -- namely, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit." In the end, the jury bought that defense.

O.J. was acquitted of the murder charges -- to the shock of much of the nation. However, not too long after that ... he was sued by the Goldmans and the Browns in civil court for wrongful death ... and that case played out in Santa Monica, where a jury found him liable for the deaths of Nicole and Ron. He was ordered to pay tens of millions in damages.

Despite being dogged by the families for the money, O.J. mostly avoided paying the judgment ... and eventually fled Los Angeles and settled down in Las Vegas -- where other legal troubles started to find him ... including tax woes, and eventually ... another criminal case.

In 2007, he was accused of busting into a Vegas hotel room in an attempt to recover sports memorabilia that he believed had been stolen from him ... rolling up to confront the new owner with a bunch of goons in tow, armed with weapons too ... according to prosecutors.

He was eventually arrested, charged and prosecuted ... and ultimately convicted on all the charges. O.J. was then imprisoned for a long time -- until he was released on parole in 2017.

Once O.J. got out of prison ... he ended up settling down in Sin City -- where he lived a relatively private and peaceful life out of the public eye ... although, he was active on social media -- often posting to Twitter/X with opinions on sports, politics and other topics.

Of course, his reputation was completely destroyed by then -- partially because many believe he actually confessed to the '94 killings in a book and subsequent interview he did in the 2000s, touting it as "hypothetical" ... plus, everything else that had transpired over the years.

And yet ... he was still approached by lots of fans post-prison regardless, posing for pics often. He also still had the support of some of his family ... including his children.

O.J. was 76.

  1. Graphite Designs Tour AD DI Shaft Review

Every shot was near the center of the face, and the monitor was showing the same push-draw time after time. For players who haven't hit Graphite Designs shafts and can't make use of their feel chart, I would say that the AD DI is a mix of the Diamana Blue and White shafts. It has the smooth feel and pronounced kick of the blue with the ...

  2. Tour AD-DI Black vs. Orange Feel

Due to the manufacturing process, two identical AD DI shafts may frequency differently. Perhaps the first shaft you had frequencied closer to the Stiff end of the spectrum and the others felt much stiffer because they were tipped. Quote. PXG Black Ops 10.5* - Tensei AV Raw White 65X.

  3. Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft Review

The shaft, which is available in a black or orange color scheme, looks busy. The midsection is lousy with logos and lettering. We prefer the black and white finish to the gaudy orange and white color scheme. The Graphite Design Tour AD DI is available in a dizzying array of weights and flexes. The weight ranges from 54g to 97g.

  4. Graphite Design Tour AD UB Shaft Review

It's a similar look as the nearly all black Tour AD XC from two years ago with a darker paint job, but your eye will catch the more neutral silver color when addressing the ball. While the Tour AD UB may not have the boldness of the bright orange of the hyper popular Tour AD DI, it's as distinctive as ever.

  5. 2024 Graphite Design Tour AD DI Shaft Review

The Graphite Design Tour AD DI shaft is a versatile shaft that can be used by golfers of all skill levels. However, it is especially well-suited for players with faster swing speeds and/or those who are looking for a high launch and low spin. The DI shaft is also a good choice for players who are looking for a smooth and stable feel.

  7. Shaft Review

The original orange shaft in the Tour AD lineup isn't going anywhere. ... The Tour AD IZ wood shaft will help produce higher launch angles than normal and lower spin (for 4 of the 5 weight classes: IZ-5, -6, -7, and -8). For instance, the Tour AD DI and its bright orange and white are instantly recognizable from a mile away. You know Rickie's rocking the black and orange AD IZ, sending bombs down the fairway. 10. Review: Graphite Design Tour AD MJ shafts

The Tour AD MJ ($380) uses the company's premium 50-ton carbon fiber material, as well as Graphite Design's 3rd-generation Toray Nanoalloy material — called "DI Technology" — in the mid and tip section to improve stability. It's available in five different flexes (R2, R1, R, S, and X) and four different weights (50, 60, 70 and 80 ...

  11. Club Junkie Review: Graphite Design Tour AD VF wood shaft

Out of the box, the VF has a very familiar look with a red handle section and a black tip section that are separated with the traditional 10 silver rings. The color combination is definitely more subtle than some of the other Tour AD shaft combinations. Graphite Design doesn't make too many low-launching shafts, so the VF is filling that need.

  12. Refreshed Graphite Design Tour Ad Di Wood Shafts Now Available

The Tour AD DI 6-TX, 7-TX, 8-TX and 9-X flex shafts are available only in the orange color scheme. The Tour AD DI is our first shaft design that was integrated with Toray Company's original NANOALLOY material technology in the tip section of the shaft. This material technology has now come to be known as "DI Technology".

  15. Tour AD DI Hybrid Shaft Review

The Tour AD DI Hybrid, even in stiff flex felt remarkably smooth but gave the accuracy of a stiff shaft.
