Liquids Rule

You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint. These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item. Placing these items in the small bag and separating from your carry-on baggage facilitates the screening process. Pack items that are in containers larger than 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters in checked baggage.

Any liquid, aerosol, gel, cream or paste that alarms during screening will require additional screening.

  • Medications
  • Infant and child nourishments

Inbound International Flights

You may carry duty free liquids in secure, tamper–evident bags, more than 3.4 oz or 100 ml in your carry-on bag if:

  • The duty free liquids were purchased internationally and you are traveling to the United States with a connecting flight.
  • The liquids are packed in a transparent, secure, tamper-evident bag by the retailer and do not show signs of tampering when presented to TSA for screening.
  • The original receipt for the liquids is present and the purchase was made within 48 hours.

The items inside the secure, tamper-evident bags must be screened and cleared. Any item that alarms or is unable to be screened will not be permitted in your carry-on bag. We recommend packing all liquids, gels, and aerosols that are over 3.4 oz or 100 ml in your checked baggage, even if they are in a secure, tamper-evident bag.

Eye care professional reviews*

“CLEAR CARE® Solution isn’t just for patients with allergies. I tend to shift patients who have contact lens dryness to CLEAR CARE® Solution, as well. I’ve found that clinically it can make a huge difference for these patients.”

“The great thing about CLEAR CARE® Solution is that you can see it working. The bubbling action helps enhance protein removal. When used correctly with its uniquely designed case, CLEAR CARE® Solution is neutralized into a gentle saline solution for irritant-free comfort. Many of my patients say it makes their lenses feel like new.”

“I am a firm believer that solution makes a difference in the patient's contact lens experience and I am adamant when it comes to recommending specific products. If I have a patient with vague complaints using their multipurpose solution, I always try them on CLEAR CARE® Solution before attempting to switch the lens. It works great for these patients, as well as those with seasonal allergies or preservative sensitivities. Using CLEAR CARE®Solution usually enables them to continue wearing their lenses year round. Not only is this a big win for many patients, but it makes me look like a hero.”

“I often recommend CLEAR CARE® Solution to patients for who have a history of systemic or ocular allergies. These individuals are more likely to develop hypersensitivity to allergens including some components in multipurpose solutions. CLEAR CARE® Solution is a good initial choice for them because of its excellent cleaning and disinfecting qualities and low propensity for causing hypersensitivity.”

“Patients who experience discomfort, whether from allergies or hypersensitivities, often benefit from using CLEAR CARE® Solution. I’ve found that many patients who dropped out can return to comfortable contact lens wear when they use CLEAR CARE® Solution.”

“For patients in the real world whose lenses must be disinfected, stored and worn again, I favor a hydrogen peroxide care system, such as CLEAR CARE® Cleaning & Disinfecting Solution; since the disinfecting power of hydrogen peroxide is unsurpassed, and this product contains no added preservatives.”

“CLEAR CARE® Solution is a great problem-solverin my practice. I recommend a significant number of therapeutic contact lenses, especially piggyback contact lenses, and because it’s approved for both GP and soft lenses, it’s an excellent choice for efficacy and convenience in these patients.”

“CLEAR CARE® Solution's proprietary formula has an important differentiating factor between it and the other peroxide products, including store brands. This unique formula has a cleaning compound that reduces surface tension to help remove debris and improves wetting of the contact lens... important factors for comfortable lens wear.”

If you are going to be traveling it can be a hassle to have to carry large bottles of contact lens cleaning solutions around and it can take up quite a bit of space in your luggage especially if you are traveling with a smaller bag. Plus, if you are going to be traveling by plane, there are restrictions set by TSA on how much liquid you can take in your carry-on luggage.

Table of Contents

Travel Size Contact Lens Solution

These days there are plenty of manufacturers that make smaller bottles of solutions which are small enough to be taken with you on your carry on bags and small enough to not take up. Let’s take a look at some top brands, where you could find travel size bottles, and some must-have contact lens travel accessories.

Can you bring contact lens solution on a plane?

You absolutely can bring contact lens solutions on a plane, but since they are a liquid they are also subjected to TSA’s 3-1-1 rule . This rule indicates that each passenger may only carry liquids, gels, and aerosols in travel-sized containers that are no bigger than 3.4oz, each passenger is limited to a 1-quart sized bag and 1-bag per person.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t take anything over 3.4oz, but if you have anything over 3.4oz you will have to put it into your checked-in luggage. If you are not planning on checking in any luggage then you should keep everything under the 3.4oz TSA rule and ensure that it all fits into your quart-sized bag so you can keep it with your carry-on bag, If you find yourself having too many types of liquids in your quart-sized bag you should really think about what you are taking with you. Things such as shampoo and conditioner could easily be substituted for a solid soap and conditioner so you don’t have to keep it with your 3-1-1 rule bag. There is a small version for everything else you need, including contact lens solution. Here are my favorites.

Opti-Free Puremoist Multipurpose Solution

travel size bottle of peroxide

Ingredients: Sodium Citrate, Sodium Chloride, Boric Acid, Sorbitiol, Aminomethylpropanol, Disodium Edta, Two Wetting Agents (Tetronic 1304+ And Hydraglyde Moisture Matrix [Eobo-4]-Polyoxyethylene-Polyoxybutylene]) With Polyquad (Polyquaternium-1) 0.001% And Aldox** (Myristamidopropyl Dimethylamine) 0.0006% Preservatives.

Bausch + Lomb Biotrue Multi-purpose Solution

travel size bottle of peroxide

Another one of my favorites is this Biotrue solution that is made by Bausch + Lomb. This solution is designed to match the same PH as your natural tears and helps clean, remove protein deposits, disinfect, rinses, and store soft contact lenses. Using a lubricant that is also naturally found in your eyes, this solution helps retain the moisture in your contact lenses for all-day comfort while wearing. Lastly, Biotrue keeps the beneficial tear proteins in your eye in their natural state which act as your eye’s natural defense against inborn germs.

Ingredients: Hyaluronan, Sulfobetaine, Poloxamine, Boric Acid, Sodium Borate, Edetate, Disodium and Sodium Chloride and Preserved with a Dual Disinfection System (Polyaminopropyl Biguanide 0.00013% and Polyquaternium 0.0001%).

Blink (Acuvue) RevitaLens

travel size bottle of peroxide

RevitaLens was once branded by Johnson & Johnson Vision as Blink RevitaLens but recently made the change over to Acuvue RevitaLens you may still find many of these in their old box design as the Acuvue design is brand new, This solution is designed to clean, rinse, disinfect, and store your soft contact lenses and is great at loosening and removing protein and other deposits that generally accumulates on your contact lenses while you are wearing them. RevitaLens does all this while providing you with a comfortable lens perfect for all-day wear.

Ingredients: alexidine dihydrochloride 0.00016% and polyquaternium-1 0.0003% as preservatives/disinfectants, boric acid, sodium borate, TETRONIC 904, edetate disodium, sodium chloride, and purified water.

Bausch + Lomb Renu Multi-Purpose Solution

travel size bottle of peroxide

Renu by Bausch + Lomb is one of those contact lens solutions that has been around for as long as I can remember. This is a multi-purpose solution that helps dissolve protein build-up and helps loosen and remove any accumulation on your contact lenses. This solution is designed with a triple disinfectant system that has a unique formula that leverages 3 types of disinfectants to provide you with exceptional disinfection. The solution also conditions and hydrates your soft contact lenses and provides you with up to 20 hours of moisture and comfort for all-day wear.

Ingredients: poloxamine, poloxamer 181, diglycine, sodium citrate, boric acid, sodium borate, edetate disodium, and sodium chloride and preserved with a triple disinfectant system (polyaminopropyl biguanide 0.00005%, polyquaternium 0.00015% and alexidine 0.0002%).

Clear Care Plus Cleaning and Disinfecting Solution

travel size bottle of peroxide

Clear Care is not your typical contact lens solution it is a hydrogen peroxide-based solution that is designed to give your contact lenses the best cleaning you could possibly get from a solution. BUT you should ensure that you understand how to utilize a hydrogen peroxide contact lens solution before you attempt to use Clear Care.

With Clear Care, you will be leaving your contact lenses in the provided holder for at least 6 hours to ensure that the hydrogen peroxide is neutralized before attempting to insert the contact lens into your eyes. You should NEVER rinse your contacts with a hydrogen peroxide-based solution such as Clear Care and apply it directly onto your eyes. This could potentially sting and cause a chemical injury to your eyes . This type of solution will always give you the cleanest and fresh contact lens but always make sure you are following the instructions provided by the manufacturer when using hydrogen-peroxided based solutions.

Ingredients: Micro-Filtered Hydrogen Peroxide (3%), Sodium Chloride (0.79%), Stabilized with Phosphonic Acid, a Phosphate Buffered System, Pluronic 17R4 (a Cleaning Agent), and HydraGlyde Moisture Matrix (EOBO-21 – Polyoxyethylene-Polyoxybutylene, Especially for Silicone Hydrogel Soft Lenses).

Other Essentials For Traveling With Contact Lenses

Having contact lenses that are comfortable all day is important especially if you are traveling with your contact lenses. Another thing that should be packed along with your contact lens solution would be rewetting drops. These drops are designed to moisturize your contact lenses at any time while you are wearing your contact lenses and is a quick way to ensure that you have that all-day-lasting comfort. Rewetting drops are also ideal for anyone who is wearing extended-wear contact lenses to remoisten your contact lenses upon awakening. Here are some of my favorite rewetting drops out available:

Blink Contacts Lubricant Eye Drops

travel size bottle of peroxide

Blink for contact lenses is one of my favorite rewetting drops that are currently available on the market today. These drops utilize hyaluronate which is a substance that is naturally found in your eyes and it forms a moisture cushion between your eyes and the contact lenses to help keep your eyes comfortable. It also is fortified with electrolytes that are naturally found in your tears and can be quite beneficial. Blink Contacts help your eyes maintain a stable tear film which in turn reduces the amount of discomfort that you would normally get from wearing your contacts for extended periods of time. These drops are ideal for anyone that is experiencing any type of dryness or discomfort while you are wearing contacts, this is especially prominent for individuals who work for extended periods of time in front of digital devices, or in low-humidity environments.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Boric Acid and is Preserved with the OcuPure Preservative (Stabilized Oxychloro Complex (0.005%).

Opti-Free Puremoist Rewetting Drops

travel size bottle of peroxide

This is my second favorite brand when it comes to rewetting drops and is designed to work best with their Opti-Free Puremoist contact lens solution but you don’t necessarily have to pair the two up to have great results. Using the Puremoist rewetting drops throughout your day will help get rid of any particles that may have gotten on your contact lenses and causing your eyes to feel dry. It also will help reduce and prevent protein deposit build-up on your soft contact lenses to provide you with an overall more comfortable contact lens throughout your day. These rewetting drops are perfect when you are out and about on the go to provide your contact lenses with a boost of added moisture to your contact lenses to ensure they are moist and comfortable for you to wear for the rest of the day.

Ingredients: Citrate/Borate Buffer and Sodium Chloride, with Edetate Disodium 0.05% and Polyquad (Polyquaternium-1) 0,001% Preservatives and Rim-100 (PEG-11 Lauryl Ether Acid) and Tetronic 1304.

Bausch + Lomb Sensitive Eyes Rewetting Drops

travel size bottle of peroxide

Another great brand of rewetting drops to help combat contact lens dryness is the Sensitive Eyes rewetting drops made by Bausch + Lomb. Designed to help with dryness by effectively lubricating and rewetting the soft contact lens you are currently wearing. These drops also help remove any particulate matter that may have come in contact with your contact lenses, as well as reduce the deposit build-up on your contact lenses. These lenses are ideal for anyone with sensitive eyes and is a gentle and effective way to help minimize discomfort from dryness.

Ingredients: Boric Acid, Sodium Borate, Sodium Chloride, Sorbic Acid (A Preservative) (0.1%, preservative), Edetate Disodium (0.025%, preservative)

Refresh Contacts Contact Lens Comfort Drops

travel size bottle of peroxide

Last on this list of rewetting drops is Refresh Contacts. This rewetting drop is designed to provide you with a boost of moisture to help soothe dry eyes that are being caused by your contact lenses. Not only does it provide relief for your dry eyes, but the solution is also specially designed with a lubricant that will help retain the moisture in your contact lenses to provide you with all-day comfort and protection. This is a great one if you want one with a less harsh preservative, as the Purite used as the preservative breaks down fairly quickly so very minimal will get to your eyes.

Ingredients: Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium, Sodium Chloride, Boric Acid, Sodium Borate, Decahydrate, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Purified Water, and is Preserved with PURITE® (Stabilized Oxychloro Complex).

Other Useful Items For Traveling With Contacts

When it comes to your eyesight, it is honestly better to be overprepared than be underprepared. When I am traveling I like to carry at least two pairs of glasses just in case one breaks. It is also best practice to be organized when it comes to the items you need to see, you wouldn’t want to get your glasses all scratched up or lose contact lenses so it’s best to stay organized. Here are some other useful items to help you stay organized while traveling with contact lenses.

Rosenice Contact Lens Case 2 in 1

travel size bottle of peroxide

CHECK PRICE

If you are traveling, this case is perfect for you to be able to carry your glasses as well as your contact lenses all in a single case. This case is double-sided with one side holding your glasses, and the other side your contact lenses. The contact lens side has a built-in mirror to help you insert or remove those contact lenses, and comes included with a contact lens case however you can fit most other contact lens cases in there as well if you wanted to use your own. It also includes two bottles you can use to fill up with solution and some tweezers so you don’t contaminate the contacts when taking them out of the case. On the glasses side, the case is lined with protective flannel which is soft and could protect the glasses from scratches.

DualCase Eyeglass and Contact Lens Case

travel size bottle of peroxide

This case gives you the best of both worlds in a single compact case. You can put your contact lenses into the case that is mounted on the top of your case and still be able to fit a pair of glasses in the case as well. One major downside to this case is that if you have glasses that are on the larger side, you might not be able to fit your glasses in this case with the contact lens case mounted to the top. The contact lens case is also not interchangeable which means you will have to remove the case and put it through a proper deep cleaning by boiling it every once and a while. Other than that this is a great case for anyone looking to carry both their contacts and glasses in the same case.

iClear Ultrasonic Contact Lens Cleaner

For those of you who don’t like cleaning your contact lenses the old fashion way by putting it in your hand and rubbing it you can get an ultrasonic cleaner. With one of these you can just put the solution you generally store your contacts in and pop your contacts in there and the machine will use ultrasonic vibrations to clean your contact lenses. The entire process takes 2 minutes and the cleaner comes included with a storage case, tweezers, and a suction rod to help you put your contact lenses in if you need it.

Contact Lens Travel Cases

If you already have a case for your glasses but only need a case for your contact lenses there are plenty of options out there. Most travel cases these days come with the little tweezers to help you pick up your contact lenses and sometimes also include a little bottle that you can fill up with solution. Here are some options.

Simple Contact Lens Case

travel size bottle of peroxide

These come in a pack of 4, which is great because you should be switching out your case once every 3 months anyway. Unfortunately, you don’t get to choose the colors and they are completely random, but if you just want a simple case these are great.

Disney Character Contact Lens Case

travel size bottle of peroxide

These character cases are a must-have for the hardcore Disney fan and come available in a couple of different characters including Mickey, Donald, Minnie, Goofy, and Daisy. It comes included with the tweezers to help you handle your contacts.

Stylish Contact Lens Case

travel size bottle of peroxide

For those of you who like shiny things, these are available in colors such as rose gold, and silver. It comes included with a bottle for the solution, tweezers, and the contacts case.

Cute Contact Lens Case

travel size bottle of peroxide

These cute character cases come in a variety of colors and include tweezers and a suction rod to help you insert your contacts. These come in a random pack of 4.

Fabric Contact Lens Case

This is a fabric-wrapped contact lens travel case that is available in a variety of different prints. It comes included with the contact lens case, a bottle for the solution, a suction rod, and a set of tweezers all in a compact designed case.

Final Thoughts

Aside from these items, the only other thing you are going to need is your contact lenses and you are ready to travel. There is nothing worse than forgetting to carry a contact lens solution or a case when you are traveling. Also, remember to always bring at least one pair of glasses to have as a backup and also allows you to give your eyes a break from contact lenses towards the end of the day.

It is also important to note that if you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA), contact lens solution is generally an eligible item for you to use your FSA and HSA cards on.

How to successfully travel with contact lens solution.

If you have bad eyesight, as I do, packing can be a bit more complicated than for those with 20/20 vision .

I’ve worn contact lenses since I was 13 years old and have gotten the hang of it. Keeping up with that habit means I also have to pack contact lens solution when I travel- another liquid taking up space in my 3-1-1 toiletries bag.

But the advantages over glasses are plentiful, so I continue to make contact solution a priority on my packing list .

Traveling with contacts and contact lens solution doesn’t have to be a pain as long as you’re prepared.

Quick Notes About Contacts

The types of contacts you have may affect the type and amount of contact lens solution you travel with.

  • Hard Contacts: Hard contacts, also known as rigid gas permeable, were common early on in vision technology, but now are mostly reserved for specific conditions. They stay focused and don’t dry out eyes as much as soft contacts. They do, however, need to be “broken in” to give your eyes time to adjust. These contacts also require more upkeep than soft contacts and need different solution that may not be as easy to find while traveling.
  • Soft Contacts: Soft contacts, on the other hand, are flexible and can get dislodged in your eyes. They’re much more common for all prescriptions and are fairly easily replaced. But because of their materials, they dry out much faster, especially while in dry places like airplanes. This means you are more likely to need eye drops in addition to your solution. They come in formats like dailies, which you change every day, and others that should be replaced every two weeks to a month. Dailies have their advantages, but take up more room in your luggage.

How to Travel with Contact Lens Solution

Traveling with contacts is only slightly inconvenient, but it’s traveling with solution that adds to your already limited TSA liquids bag . As always, we recommend taking only what you need, and also making sure your bottles are as leak-proof as possible.

The Solution? Pack travel sized bottles of contact lens solution.

It’s fairly easy to find TSA-approved bottles of solution at home, but not always overseas, especially in your preferred brand.

If this is the case, you may need to buy a full-size bottle of solution overseas (and pack it in your checked luggage or throw it away at the end of your trip if you’re traveling carry-on only ) or resort to wearing your glasses.

We don’t recommend decanting your contact lens solution from its original bottle due to hygiene reasons.

Don’t rely on your contact lens solution being a “medically necessary liquid” and therefore exempt from the 3-1-1 rule.

While you may be lucky, some contact lens solutions will test positive for certain chemicals that are not allowed through the screening checkpoint. The TSA recommends only traveling with contact lens solution bottles of 3.4 oz or less in your carry-on luggage. I’ve had to throw my small container of contact solution away when traveling in the UK .

Things like this can vary by country and even by the agent you encounter when passing airport checkpoints.

Where to Find Contact Solution When You Travel

The more common solutions, like multi-purpose solution, are easily found in most countries, but will usually be a different brand. I’ve traveled through Australia , Asia , and Europe and never had trouble finding it . At stores like Boots and 7-Eleven, you should be able to find Western brands as well.

If you use a hydrogen peroxide system, however, you may need to bring enough to last for your entire trip. It pays to do your research before you go to make sure it’s available abroad. We suggest reaching out to the manufacturer to see if they know of the product’s distribution in the countries you intend to travel to.

In addition, people with sensitive eyes and allergies to certain solutions should pack enough for their trip unless they have confirmed the solution will be available at the destination. Otherwise, it might be a better option to forego contacts and stick to glasses for the brunt of a trip to cut back on the amount of liquids you actually need to pack .

Travel-Sized Contact Solution

The largest solution size we’ve found that fits a 3-1-1 bag is 2 oz. The next size up is 4 oz, which is larger than the 3.4 oz (100 ml) maximum. Even searching for “travel size contact solution 3 oz” results in a list of products of 2 or 4 ounces.

Carry-On Considerations: If you’re traveling carry-on only for your trip, you may want to pack multiple bottles of the 2 oz size solution into your 3-1-1 bag. This may mean that you have to pick up some other liquids at your destination (like shampoo, for example). Or you can invest in solid toiletries and not have to worry.

Here are some 2 oz options:

  • Biotrue, 2 oz . You can buy singles or a pack of 4 for the same price per unit.
  • Opti-Free Puremoist, 2 oz . This option comes with a free lens case.
  • Renu MultiPlus, 2 oz, pack of 3 .

Contacts Cases

There are many contacts cases on the market, but the most important feature is a tight-fitting, leak-proof lid. Some come with a zippered container, tweezers, and a mirror for ease of taking out like this one on Amazon. I’ve personally found screw-top containers to be more secure than the hinged designs, but all cases differ. Test yours out prior to travel!

The biggest thing to remember when it comes to traveling with contacts is to change the solution and clean the case frequently to avoid infection and irritation. Also make sure to add solution so that they don’t accidentally dry out overnight.

Side note: Contact lens cases are great for people who don’t wear contacts, too! They can transport smaller amounts of cream makeup and lotions/potions to help you save space.

Additional Tips for Traveling with Contacts and Solution

  • Always wash your hands with clean water before taking out or putting in your contacts. This can be a problem in developing countries, so you might want to travel with hand sanitizer or wet wipes . If you use hand sanitizer first, make sure your hands dry before touching contacts/eyes. Many recommend pouring a bit of contact solution over their fingers for extra cleansing.
  • Change your contacts when your doctor recommends. I write the date that I should change contacts in marker on the blister pack as a reminder.
  • Bring a backup pair of contacts and glasses. In case your contacts rip or you lose them, you’ll have both another pair and your glasses as a last resort.
  • Pack your doctor’s prescription just in case. Most countries should let you refill your prescription overseas so it never hurts to have it. Also throw in your solution of choice so that you don’t have to use a random brand and so you can ask the pharmacist by showing them the bottle.
  • Put your contacts and glasses in your carry-on , not your checked bag. You’d hate for your bags to get lost with your contacts inside! It’s also good to keep your contacts and solution with you to keep your flight comfortable .
  • If your eyesight allows, a cheap pair of readers from the drugstore can be an easy alternative to your nice glasses for travel. It’s not so devastating if you break them (or lose them). Prescription sunglasses and goggles might be right for active travelers as well.

Tips for Traveling with Contacts On a Flight

  • Consider using a lens re-wetting solution during the flight. This solution is thicker than a cleaning solution and may help your contacts feel more comfortable in dry airplane air.
  • Wear glasses for long flights, especially if you’ll be sleeping. This will help prevent tears to the cornea and eye infections. You can put in your contacts once you land.
  • Drink plenty of water so that your eyes stay hydrated.
  • Wash your hands before touching your contacts, but don’t handle them in the airplane bathroom. It’s covered in germs. If you drop a contact in the airplane bathroom, it’s safer to throw it out and use a new one.

Eye infections are very serious. Never decant lens solution from one container into another. It will no longer be sterile and is a risk of infection. Also, use clean fresh solution every single day. If you are traveling somewhere where you wouldn’t drink the water, then be sure to dry your hands after washing and before inserting your lenses. Take extra pairs of lenses – they are not that expensive. Also, snap a photo of your prescription on your phone is n case you need it. Sleep in your lenses only rarely, and only if your eye doctor says it’s OK for you.

If it’s not long term travel, dailies are worth every penny. I’ve had less discomfort, infection and itching since I switched and I no longer need to lug around solution with me (or before that, in earlier years, a heating unit). A month of dailies takes up very little room and is extremely light.

I carry a small eye-drop bottle with solution in it in my purse while out for the day. If a little dirt gets in your eye or your eyes start feeling dry, you can use this to save the day. It also makes a nice backup amount of solution. If it is a long or potentially rough day outdoors I also often bring a lens case and my glasses with me, just in case! I’d love to try the daily disposables for my next trip as it seems infinitely easier. As a tip for those coming to India where I live, eye solution is much more widely available now, but still not available in every medical shop. Worthwhile to get what you need in larger cities and towns before heading out. If you are struggling to find it in the local medical shop, try the chain beauty store Health and Glow (tell them to look as many employees don’t seem to know they carry it) or look for a place that sells eyeglasses as they most likely sell contacts and solution. Eye glasses can be a great bargain in India if you are looking for a backup pair!

As others have mentioned, decanting eye solutions from one bottle to another is EXTREMELY dangerous and can lead to an eye infection that can blind you. Carry around unidose eye lubricant vials that you can open if your eye is irritated and you are on the roads.

Love this post! I wear hard contact lenses and user Clear Care (hydrogen peroxide) cleaner. I got rid of all of my toiletries to make room for 8-100ml sized bottles.

I left home with 4-100ml bottles and ran out in about 3 months. At the time, I was in Vietnam and went to about 10+ eye care stores and pharmacies – none of them carried Clear Care or AOSept (the brand in Asia). Long story short, here is the list of countries/places in Asia that carry AOSept or ClearCare that I’ve seen so far:

ClearCare: – Japan

AOSept: – Kuala Lumpur – Singapore – Hong Kong (I stocked up in HK on a 24-hour layover) – Taiwan

Hopefully this helps someone else looking for ClearCare while traveling!

I just learned that a nighttime bonfire in the desert can mean a harsh wake up call in the morning. When I took them out at night no problem but even with clean hands in the morning it was a rough instillation!! I realized that there was probably schmootz on them from ash and sand and I never gave them a good wash before I put them back in my eyes! 😫

That sounds painful!

I’ve never had an problem with solution passing as medically necessary. I use a 3 oz bottle and keep it in a separate ziplock bag. I’ve only tried in the US though.

I used to be able to travel with my hydrogen peroxide contact cleaning solution with no problems. Recently had it confiscated at my home airport (failed the strip test) but replacement sailed through return airport (passed the strip test). I called my regional TSA headquarters and spoke with senior person to ask what the official position is – “I don’t know.” Basically, cross your fingers and hope for the best.

Ugh how annoying! I think that’s it for everything- cross your fingers!

I use extended wear astigmatism contacts and I pack my pairs in their sterile containers, I put in one pair, leave them in for the ~month I’m supposed to, take them out and never put them back in my eyes again and replace them with a new pair. So my best solution is no solution 😉 😉 (sorry, pardon the pun). I recommend extended wear contacts to anyone with an eye prescription, it’s like not needing glasses/contacts.

Hydrogen peroxide is not always allowed through security, and it can sometimes cause your bag to test positive. I wear rigid gas permeables, and have found that Sereine extra strength cleaner works well enough for during a vacation. However, it is very hard to find. This site has the best options: https://dryeyeshop.com/collections/lens-cleaning-disinfection . I also look for hydrogen peroxide in a pharmacy as soon as I land.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

By Claudia Looi 2 Comments

Komsomolskaya metro station

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.
