his is Shirley, our 1962 fiberglass KenCraft Camper! She has lots of original details: - original wood paneling, cupboards, hardware - original working (and remarkably clean) oven and stove - original matching ice box - original light fixtures - original (and super effective) propane, non-electric start heater - original jalousie windows (4 of them!) - original cushions (recently dry cleaned at Alameda cleaners) - original table and matching kitchen countertop She has so much character, we really hate to part with her, but we've got urban farming commitments and don't plan on going camping soon, so we hope that you are! We've made a few upgrades to make her a bit more comfortable during the time we've had her including: - removing the rear of camper to redo the back interior wall and the sealant - removing 1970s linoleum and replaced subfloor and added new vinyl flooring - re-welding a crack in the frame - painting cooking-oil stained wood paneling - replacing subfloor in cabinets - deep-cleaning the kitchen, replacing kitchen drawer liners - replacing kitchen drain and spout - adding kitchen backsplash - removing potentially dangerous and creative wiring throughout - painting heater vent cover - deep cleaning the ice box - patching the exterior fiberglass - rebuilding the side benches, reinforced wheel-well covers - added hand-sewn curtains for privacy We'd love to tell you more about Shirley! Aren't those star details in the fiberglass beautiful? She's in great shape, well-sealed, no water damage to the interior wood paneling, stays surprisingly cool in summer and warm in winter with the propane heater on. Please reach out with any questions or interest. Thanks for looking! -- Jake and Evan

1957 Ken Craft Vintage Travel Trailer ~ Tiny Home
Englewood, Florida
Make Ken Craft
1957 Ken CraftWould make for a great winter project! She's in awesome condition for a 60 year old camper and will fetch upwards of $12-15k when fully restored! *ALL ORIGINAL, no one has "glamped" anything inside or out.*All BIRCH throughout*Has water heater and water storage tank under kitchen sink*Flooring inside needs some TLC, looks to be good and solid underneath (see pics)*All windows intact except one "slat" missing on the jalousie window near the entrance door, would be simple and cheap to replace.*Table and benches are in good shape and all work properly (fold down to make a bed)*Original Princess stove and Servel refrigerator (propane)*Sink needs remounted in the kitchen and bathroom*Shower has original fixtures*Original potty (drains underneath)*Someone put an a/c unit on the floor, but the cabinet door still remains if one should choose to take it out.*Unsure of whether the original heater works*ZERO water damage on the ceiling or vents*Slight water damage near the rear window and behind the toilet* The body is STRAIGHT and free of any dents, scrapes or holes* Front entrance step needs a little work*I used a tow kit for the tail lights because the adapter that hooks to the truck was missing when I bought it......(I have since purchased one and it will be included) I towed from Austin Texas to Englewood Florida with zero issues hitched to a 2001 chevy s-10 4.3L Vortec......i would imagine she weighs about 3500lbsThe tires look great and she pulls straight. Selling because of lack of time and resources. Low reserveSerious bidders and experienced renovators only please! There isn't a whole lot of info online for these babies but i found a few tid-bits: Ken Craft trailers were built from the late 50's to the mid 70's. The construction of them was very unique for the time as they were one of the first manufacturers to start using fiberglass on the exterior, the front, back and a large one-piece roof. Not only did this provide protection from water leaks it allowed some pretty cool styling. Ken Craft was a very high-end travel trailer as they continued to use real wood interiors long after most manufacturers had gone to a fake, photo laminate wood paneling. Any further questions or specific pictures of close-ups, etc you'd like?? Just ask

Vintage 1968 Ken-Craft Travel Trailer for sale in Del Sur, California
Large 35 ft Ken-Craft vintage travel trailer for sale! Very good condition inside, birch paneling, huge cooking area, initial white appliances, large living location with tilt out & & sliding glass door for an open, spacious sensation! This trailer is terrific for full-time coping with about 240 sq ft of space. Kitchen area has been just recently renovated, with brand-new white tiles, backsplash, utensil bars. Has a huge kitchen in the corridor, plus great deals of cabinets in the kitchen area. Bedroom has rv queen bed, his & & hers closets, vanity with additonal drawers, and a night table with even more storage. All plumbing works in kitchen area & & bath, with new shower head and lavatory faucet just recently set up. Large Duo-Therm propane heating unit with floor ducts in outstanding working order; it warms the location up fast. As for the air conditioner, there is insufficient electrical energy where it is to attempt to turn it on. Everything else in the trailer has worked so there's a great possibility the air conditioning works too. This trailer was well taken care of by the original owner, and spent many of its life in the very same location, never being moved. Considering that acquiring it, the trailer has been moved a short distance two times with no troubles. The trailer is currently in a quiet park near West Lancaster, possibility to move right in & & take over space rent if you are planning to move to the area. Near: Palmdale, Lancaster, Quartz Hill, Valencia, Santa Clarita, Mojave, Edwards AFB for easy travelling while living in a relaxing area. Or move the trailer anywhere you desire. It does not have to remain here, that is only an idea. You'll require a 3/4 load truck or larger to tow this trailer. Asking $11,000 OR BEST OFFER for this huge vintage Ken-Craft travel trailer. Will certainly also consider trading for newer R/V at least 30 ft long, in excellent condition and all set to roll. Vintage RV: 1960’s Tee Pee (?) Travel Trailer by Watson Industries of Claresholm, Alberta
Here's another colourful vintage rv story about one of the many canadian companies that dabbled in the rv business over the last number of decades..
I was passing through the beautiful town of Creston recently and spied this vintage travel trailer perched on a parking lot along the highway. I swung my car around and stopped by to admire it and snapped a couple of photos.
Fortunately, a faded nameplate still existed by the entrance door. I was able to determine it was produced by a company called Watson Industries of Claresholm, Alberta. This sent me on a quest to find out more about Watson Industries. I am not sure if this model is a Tee Pee Travel Trailer or another model as there were no markings or logo decals on the unit.
Here’s a post about Watson Industries trailers: “I have a 1963-1966 Tee Pee Travel Trailer, Model - Chuckwagon. I have still not found an exact date, but I'm guessing it's a '66…This trailer was made in Claresholm, Alberta. The company that manufactured it was Watson Industries, a sister company of Safeway Shelter. The company was founded in 1961 and folded in 1966-7 due to legal issues. I have come to find out through extensive research that Tee Pee trailers are extremely rare as well as Safeway trailers.”
One commenter on a vintage RV site wrote: “There is not a whole lot of info on the company, Watson Industries of Claresholm, Alberta. They were the manufacturer of Tee Pee trailers which were affiliated with Duchess, another brand of RV manufacturer (same company). Both companies were divisions of Safeway Shelter Systems.”
Another poster stated, “I also found out that the company was registered as early as 1961. Then they applied for expungement in late 1967. The expungement was approved and registered by late 1968. Once approved, all records of the company’s existence are wiped out with no records, by law. So records show the company only existed for maybe 6 years, or less.”
While another social media chat room contained this comment from someone with the handle, Claresholm Kid, “My father worked for Watson Industries building mobile homes in Nebraska in the 50's. In 1960 we moved to Claresholm, Alberta where he was production manager at the plant on the old air force airport for Watson Industries. They built the Tee Pee trailers and under the Safeway Shelters name they built Mobile homes (which became the #1 Mobile home in Canada). I have a picture of us with a Tee Pee from 1964. We moved back to the U.S. in Colorado in 1964 where my father remained in the Recreational Vehicle Industry till 2010.”
According to the obituary of Norman Lock, “After the Second World War, Norman Lock went to work for the A.H. Lock Company in Lincoln and Watson Industries in Fremont, Nebraska. In 1952, Norm and Patricia Watson, daughter of Ray and Carol Watson were married. They moved to Claresholm, Alberta, Canada in 1962 for Watson Industries. Watson Industries then became Safeway Shelter Systems (Claresholm, Calgary and Montreal). Safeway Shelter Systems was the second largest mobile home industry and industrial Camp manufacturer in Canada. Norm was President and CEO for 20 years. After retiring from the mobile home industry, he moved to Penticton, British Columbia, home of the beautiful Okanagan Valley.”
There was a bit of speculation that Watson Industries records were “expunged” for legal reasons, relating to safety concerns and law suits over flaws in the travel trailer design and manufacturing, but there is no way to confirm this. One comment even suggested the company got into legal problems because their trailers kept coming unhitched from the tow vehicle, again no confirmation of this.
So here's another colourful vintage RV story about one of the many Canadian companies that dabbled in the RV business over the last number of decades.
