AC/DC Planning New Album and 40th-Anniversary Tour

ac dc 40th anniversary tour

If it feels like you haven't been hearing a lot about AC/DC of late, that's about to change in a big way this year.

This past Friday, in an interview with a Florida radio station 98.7 "the Gater," AC/DC's Brian Johnson said the band is about to head into the studio. He also said they're in the process of planning a 40th-anniversary tour.

"Well, you’ll be the first one to know," Johnson the Gater's Andy Preston (as reported by Ultimate Classic Rock ). "Really, because we’ve been denying anything, 'cause we weren’t sure … but I think we’ll be going into the studio in May in Vancouver. Which means, we should be getting ready."

The new album will be AC/DC's first studio release since 2008's Black Ice .

"It’s been 40 years of the band’s existence," Johnson said. "I think we’re gonna try to do 40 gigs, 40 shows, to thank the fans for their undying loyalty. I mean, honestly, our fans are just the best in the world, and we appreciate every one of them.

"So, like I said, we’ll have to go out, even though we’re getting a bit long in the tooth. You know what?! It’s been four years [since we last went out on the road], and I’m really looking forward to it."

What's that? Can't picture AC/DC in 1974? Check out the clip below. It's the video for "Can I Sit Next To You Girl," their first single, from July 1974 featuring Dave Evans on vocals.

As previously reported, AC/DC will headline the 2015 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival , along with Jack White and Drake . Coachella is scheduled for April 10-12 and April 17-19, 2015, in Indio, California.

Previously announced European dates on the "Rock Or Bust" world tour begin May 5 in The Netherlands and run through late July.

AC/DC will be on the road for much of 2015, touring in support of its new album, "Rock Or Bust" , which arrived on December 2.

It has been a tough year for AC/DC , starting with guitarist and founder Malcolm Young 's retirement due to being afflicted with dementia.

Then drummer Phil Rudd was arrested in early November on charges of threatening to kill and drug possession.

Rudd allegedly threatened to kill a contractor and his daughter, according to New Zealand prosecutors.

The allegations were made public December 5. On December 2, Rudd pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Rudd did not appear in AC/DC 's two new videos nor any of the band's latest promotional photos, and his status in the group remains unclear.

One-time AC/DC drummer Chris Slade officially joined the band's lineup last week for its performance on Sunday night's (February 8) Grammy Awards telecast. Slade will also be behind the kit for the group's upcoming world tour.

Buckle up, my friends.

Legendary rock band AC/DC have posted on social media for the first time in almost 2 years.

They have strongly hinted at new activity from the band.

AC/DC posted a short 8-second video on Facebook celebrating the 40th anniversary of their highly successful album ‘Highway To Hell’.

Captioned  ‘Celebrate with us all month long! ⚡️#H2H40’ , and with the iconic opening guitars of ‘Highway To Hell’ playing, the animated clip features AC/DC’s logo before the album cover appears and the years ‘1979’ and ‘2019’ flash onto the screen.

Whether it’s 40th-anniversary tour celebrating ‘Highway To Hell’ or a new album. Only time will tell.

Headline does not match story content. This is know as “clickbait.” I will be removing “metalwani.com” from my Google News news sources.

Why did you claim it was their “40th anniversary tour” in the headline then in the article there’s nothing like that. It’s just the same info that’s been known to everyone for weeks.. They put up a live performance of highway to hell from 79 on their website. Stop tricking people you losers. Your Clickbaut bullshit just lost you a potential fan.

I think they will release AC-DC Highway to Hell 40th Aniversary DVD set with some new material on then announce a 2020 tour.

AC/DC’s Back in Black Jumps to Third Place Among Best-Selling Albums in US History

The post AC/DC’s Back in Black Jumps to Third Place Among Best-Selling Albums in US History appeared first on Consequence .

AC/DC ’s iconic Back in Black album just earned two new certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), moving it into third place on the all-time list of best-selling albums in US history.

The 1980 album was certified 26-times platinum by the RIAA on July 8th and shortly thereafter 27-times platinum just a couple days ago on August 21st. The latter certification for shifting 27 million units put it ahead of the Eagles’ Hotel California on the list of the best-selling albums in the United States.

Don’t feel too bad for the Eagles, though, as their best-of collection Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)  still remains No. 1 on the list with 38 million units moved. Michael Jackson’s Thriller is No. 2 at 34 million copies.

Worldwide, Back in Black is No. 2 with a reported 50 million copies sold, only trailing Thriller (an estimated 70 million units moved).

Back in Black is currently available to purchase on limited-edition gold vinyl in celebration of AC/DC’s 50th anniversary.

Forty-four years after the release of Back in Black , and more than 50 years into their career, AC/DC are still going strong. The band just completed a comeback tour of the UK and Europe, marking their first outing in eight years. As of now, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame act has no further dates scheduled.

Four years ago, Consequence celebrated the 40th anniversary of Back in Black with a series of special features, including our list of 40 Reasons We Still Love AC/DC’s Back in Black , as well as the exclusive video below of a superfan who unlocked Angus Young’s guitar tone.

AC/DC Announce 40th Anniversary Tour and Album -

The 40th Anniversary of Australian/English hard rockers AC/DC will be celebrated with a new album and tour.

In a radio interview with 98.7 The Gater in West Palm Beach, Florida, frontman Brian Johnson said:

“ We’ve been denying anything because we weren’t sure. One of our boys was pretty ill, so we didn’t like to say anything. We’re very private about things like this and he’s a very proud man. But I think we’ll be going in the studio in May in Vancouver – which means we should be getting ready .”

“ It’s been 40 years of the band’s existence, so I think we’re going to try to go 40 gigs to thank the fans for their undying loyalty ,” Johnson continued.

“ Honestly, our fans are just the best in the world and we appreciate every one of them. So we have to go out even though we’re getting a bit long in the tooth. It’s been four years and I’m really looking forward to it .”

In 2008 AC/DC released 'Black Ice' and the three year tour in support of the album went on to make in excess of $440m, making it the fourth-highest grossing tour of all-time.

THE STEMS – 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR – CORNER HOTEL

  • Greg Phillips
  • August 27, 2024

ac dc 40th anniversary tour

Review and photos by Craig Eriksson. Corner Hotel – 24 August 2024

Western Australian Garage Rock legends The Stems made a triumphant return tonight and played a captivating and memorable 40th Anniversary Tour show at the iconic Corner Hotel in Richmond to a sold out full house.

Upon arrival at the Corner, we entered the bandroom, grabbed a drink and made our way through the rowdy crowd to position ourselves in a good spot up near the front barrier waiting for The Stems to come out on stage. As I glanced around the room, I noticed a lot of familiar faces and paisley shirts. The vibe in the bandroom was electric and buzzing with excitement as fans waited in anticipation to see The Stems. I could hear fans chatting amongst their small groups about past times they’d seen The Stems and really talked up how amazing they are live.

The Stems formed back in 1983 in Perth, Western Australia by founding members Dom Mariani and the late Richard Lane (R.I.P.). The Stems have had a rollercoaster rock’n’roll journey over their 40-years as a band. They had great success between 1983-1987 which took them to the heights of independent fame and National and International acclaim performing with the likes of the The Saints and The Triffids. Sadly the intensity of touring, personality conflicts and industry expectations saw The Stems implode and break up in August 1987. They performed a reunion show 10 years later in Perth in 1997 and then had a 6-year hiatus. They reformed again in 2003 and toured Australia & Europe (2004) and the USA (2005). They released their album Heads Up in 2007 and did some tours with Radio Birdman and Hoodoo Gurus. They disbanded once again in October 2009. In 2013 they reformed with a new line-up that included Ash Naylor (Even/Paul Kelly) and Davey Lane (You Am I) to perform an Australian Tour and they supported The Sunnyboys. In 2017, to celebrate their 30th Anniversary of their classic debut album At First Sight Violets Are Blue they successfully toured throughout 2018. The Stems have been playing shows sporadically ever since.

ac dc 40th anniversary tour

To gain a further history and background of The Stems, Australian Musician recently posted this article – https://australianmusician.com.au/news/wa-garage-rock-legends-the-stems-announce-40th-anniversary-tour/

First up, a special mention goes out to tonights support act – The Prize who kick started the evening. They were impressive, have a fresh sound and are one of the hottest new additions to hit the Naarm/Melbourne underground scene.

Dom Mariani announced they last played 5 years ago at the Corner and were excited to be back.

The current line up for tonights show consisted of – • Dom Mariani (Lead vocals/guitar) • Julian Matthews (Bass guitar/backing vocals) • Dave ‘Huck’ Shaw (drums) • Ash Naylor (Guitar / Lead & Backing Vocals)

The Stems played a stellar and electrifying show of their greatest hits along with a few covers over a 2 hour period which included two encores and 22 songs. This eclectic and nostalgic collection of songs highlighted their diversity and versatility of rock’n’roll music consisting of psychedelic, fuzz, funk, power pop, garage rock that has a heavily influenced 60s & 70s sound and guitar driven rock. A very distinctive and unique brand of music that remains iconic, hip, and timeless.

Their repertoire encompassed songs from their studio and live albums and was tight, fast, clean and created a feel-good vibe.

They performed 6 songs from their 2007 Heads Up album – • Leave You Way Behind – which they opened the show with. This song has great energy, guitar riffs and had the crowd singing and bopping along right from the get-go. • Surround Me – which saw Ash Naylor play his 12-string guitar; • Get To Know Me – quite a funky song with great drum beat. • She Sees Everything • Undying Love – reminded me of Van Morrisons ‘Gloria) • Get So Bad – a very Beatlesque type song.

They played 6 songs from their debut 1987 At First Sight, Violets Are Blue album. • For Always • Move Me • Mr Misery • Sad Girl • Never Be Friends • Man with The Golden Heart

For those that are not so familiar with The Stems, this is an incredible album and in the early nineties, Rolling Stone included it in the Australian Top 100 releases of all time. Every song on this album is a cracker!

They also played 3 songs from their 8-track mini LP, The Great Rosebud Hoax released in 1987. • Just Ain’t Enough – Julian’s strong bass playing along with Ash and Dom on guitar made up for the absence of keyboards on this song. • Tears Me In Two – Ash Taylor sang lead vocals on this wonderful fuzz rock song. I remember this being a big hit for The Stems back in the late 80s; • Make You Mine – blended with AC/DC’s version of Baby Please Don’t Go.

Additionally they performed their new single Falling From The Sky released in 2024 and sang a few wonderful covers –The Monkees – I’m not your Stepping Stone; MC5 – Shakin Street sang by Ash Naylor; and The Beatles – Day Tripper

ac dc 40th anniversary tour

Dom Mariani completely ‘wowed’ us tonight with his wonderful voice and guitar playing. It was blatantly obvious that Dom and the band are all passionate rock’n’roll fans and have been heavily influenced by the likes of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Animals, MC5, The Monkees. It was very noticeable how much the band loved and enjoyed playing this style of music.

I have seen Ash Naylor perform countless times over the years in several bands and collaborations and he is an exceptional guitarist and live musician. The Stems style of music is custom-made for him. Ash is well known for being singer/songwriter/guitarist in the Melbourne-based band Even and he more recently joined The Church. Ash played in the Rockwiz house band; Paul Kelly’s band, Vika & Linda Bull’s band; Countdown Spectacular; Tex Perkins ‘Man In Black’ show. There is nothing this man can’t do with his musicianship talent, love and passion for music.

Ash Naylor was Australian Musician’s – Musician of The Month in October 2023 – https://australianmusician.com.au/features/ashley-naylor-musician-of-the-month-october-2023/

You could also see that Julian Matthews and Dave ‘Huck’ Shaw are great mates and were playful on stage with Dave throwing his empty water bottles at Julian during song breaks. Julian would then throw his towel or empty water bottle back at Dave and burst into laughter.

We caught up with the band after the gig and they are the nicest, most humble bunch of guys and they hung around to allow their fans to get their merch signed, grab a selfie and have a chat with them. RESPECT!

I strongly encourage any lover of music to get along and experience one of The Stems live shows –

Oz fox is hopeful that he’ll return to stryper for the 40th anniversary tour.

' src=

Stryper’s Oz Fox has shared an update on his health, three months after being released from the hospital following his recent brain surgery. The procedure kept him from joining the band’s spring 2024 ‘To Hell With The Amps’ acoustic tour.

On August 29, Oz went live on Facebook with his wife, Annie Lobert, to talk about his condition. As it appears, he is hopeful that he will be returning to the band soon.

“I am preparing, getting things together, because I’m going to rehearse,” Fox said in the live stream. “So I just thought maybe I’d let you know that I am planning to be out with the [the rest of the Stryper] boys [on the band’s 40th-anniversary tour starting in early September]. We’re still planning, so it’s just still kind of in the works, but I’m feeling a lot better. I finished my chemotherapy and radiation… Well, the chemo and radiation together, and then I have more I’m taking later. But I did finish radiation, not last Monday, but the Monday before.”

“So since that’s all done, it looks like I’m feeling pretty good. My doctors didn’t know if I would be feeling well at the end of it all. And I am feeling really good. So that’s a big plus,” he added.

Stryper announced in May that Fox wouldn’t be able to tour with the band as he needed brain surgery.

“In light of this news, we have had to make some tough decisions as we gear up for our first acoustic tour – ‘To Hell with the Amps.’ It is with a heavy heart that we share that Oz will not be able to join us on this run,” they wrote in a social media post. They also announced the new guitarist: “We know this isn’t ideal, as news came well after we booked the tour, but with Oz’s blessing, we’ve invited Will Doughty to join us – he will be playing keyboards and adding harmonies to the mix.”

The rocker had his first seizure in August 2018 while performing with Sin City Sinners at Harrah’s in Las Vegas. Over the next two and a half years, two tumors—one near his ear and the other at the back of his brain—began to grow. He then had brain surgery in March 2021 to treat the tumors.

Stryper’s 40th-anniversary tour will celebrate both classic hits and fan favorites from their recent era. It features outfit changes and a fresh new show production. In most cities, it will be a two-set ‘evening with’ style performance.
