17 Amazing Things To Do in Berkeley You’ll Love

Berkeley, California is a place that shows its many faces to those who visit. You’ll find a college-town vibe that pulsates from the University of California Berkeley campus, along with a tranquil atmosphere, thanks to the many green spaces dotting the city. You’ll also find Berkeley is a place where local culture gets exhibited by awe-inspiring art museums, districts showcasing the best of culinary arts, and events that bring this tight-knit community even closer.

Discover a city influenced by trends, such as the Flower Power era in the 60-70s, and inspired by natural landscapes that continue to evolve in the San Francisco Bay Area .

Ready to learn more? Here are 17 things to do in Berkeley that you’re going to love!

17 AMAZING THINGS TO DO IN BERKELEY YOU'LL LOVE

SATHER TOWER

“Ding!” Sixty-one bells chime throughout the day on the University of California Berkeley’s campus from the Sather Tower . You can see (and hear) Sather Tower from most of the campus. This iconic tower was built in 1914 and is open to the public to explore inside.

Nicknamed the Campanile, its slender granite body has a striking resemblance to Venice’s St. Mark’s Campanile. It stands 307 feet tall, making it the 3rd tallest bell tower in the world.

Take the tower elevator to the top for sweeping views of the Bay Area. After, descend into the basement where a fossil exhibition awaits, curated by the University’s Department of Integrated Biology.

BERKELEY ROSE GARDEN

Pinks! Reds! Purples!

You’ll find a colorful bouquet of roses decorating manicured hedges at Berkeley Rose Garden . Known as one of the most beautiful rose gardens in Northern California, spring is an especially amazing time to visit.

Sitting in the Berkeley Hills, the rose garden is a floral masterpiece. It’s a garden designed in 1933 that blossomed into a 3.6-acre park exhibiting more than 3,000 rose bushes. See the beautiful terraced design or enjoy the tranquility of the sounds of the Codornices Creek flowing through it.

Add a bonus visit to the Codornices Park , located just a pedestrian tunnel away from the Berkeley Rose Garden.

A visit here is one of the best things to do in Berkeley!

BERKELEY ART MUSEUM AND PACIFIC FILM ARCHIVE (BAMPFA)

Double up on the Berkeley fun with a two-for-one experience in the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive . Whether you’re an art-lover looking to browse the curated exhibitions of one of the country’s largest university museums, or a film junkie looking to get your fingers dusty in the archives, BAMPFA is the place.

BAMPFA is a landmark building on the UC Berkeley campus. Inside, it holds more than 19,000 artworks, exhibited via 20 annual exhibitions. Check out the public programming to attend one of the 450 film screenings every year, or browse the film archives to discover film culture, critics, film books, and other media.

TILDEN REGIONAL PARK

Inhale and exhale fresh, natural air inside the Tilden Regional Park . Located between the Berkeley Hills and the San Pablo Ridge, the park offers guests a break from the city. Plan a day for outdoor recreation during your Berkeley trip.

Established in 1936, Tilden Regional Park is one of the oldest parks in the East Bay Region. It’s preserved a beautiful natural landscape with lakes, hillsides, and wilderness.

Go swimming or sunbath on the lakeside of Lake Anza. Hike a section of the East Bay Skyline Recreation Trail, or explore new heights with the Grizzly Peak cycling route. Sightseeing on the Redwood Valley Railway takes you on a mini-train adventure at the feet of natural giants. Make sure to make time to enjoy a meal at one of the awesome picnic areas.

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA BOTANICAL GARDEN (110)

Ready for a floral tour around the world? The UC Botanical Garden takes you across continents — from North America to Europe to Africa — showcasing a beautiful collection of plants. Paved paths wind their way throughout the 34 acres of Strawberry Canyon to navigate the scenic views and floral displays of the garden.

Of the UC Botanical Garden’s more than 10,000 species, its collection of native California plants is most impressive. Rare and endangered plant species are sprinkled into the lush landscape. On the hilltop, be sure to check out views of the San Francisco Bay in the distance.

BERKELEY MARINA

Feel the sea breeze caress your face as you gaze at scenic views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Berkeley Marina is a favorite viewpoint, where you’ll be accompanied by boats floating to and from the San Francisco Bay. Visit the marina to immerse yourself in Berkeley’s maritime atmosphere.

Berkeley Marina is at the western tip of Berkeley, just before entering the SF Bay. The marina district is an inviting area for visitors to spend an entire day. Cruise the bay on a fishing charter boat from the marina, then return to enjoy seafood at the marina’s Berkeley Boathouse. End the night by returning to your room at the harbor-front Berkeley Marina DoubleTree by Hilton.

TAKARA SAKE MUSEUM

‘Kanpai!’ Cheers to savory sake served at the Takara Sake Museum . This one-of-a-kind venue combines a working sake brewery with a museum to teach Japanese culture through sake artifacts.

Although the Takara Sake Museum has only been around since 1983, its traditional sake-making techniques bring back the full flavors of the old country. With ingredients sourced from high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to deep in the Sacramento Valley, it combines them into a fresh brew worth tasting.

Check out objects exhibited from Japan showcasing antique sake-making tools, before stepping into the tasting room to taste the signature Sho Chiky Bai brand or other imported brands.

Note: The Takara Sake Museum remains closed in 2022 due to COVID-19.

LAWRENCE HALL OF SCIENCE

Have some hands-on fun at the Lawrence Hall of Science and explore the curiosities of your mind. Maneuver around the crowds of kids on school field trips for your turn at one of the many exhibitions.

Kids become scientists as the museum’s interactive exhibitions test your inner genius. Show off your wits in activities that test gravity, friction, movement, and even your brain power. Solve math challenges and puzzles as you make your way through the galleries. You’ll see large-scale objects, like the Earth, brought to a smaller scale, while smaller things, like insect models, are displayed at a human scale!

ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and you’ll have hard evidence on University Avenue. Adventure Playground started as a heap of junkyard scraps before becoming a quirky park that lets you express your creativity. Imagination never ceases as the public park is transformed daily by the people who visit it.

Pick your tools of choice when entering the park: hammer and nail, paint and paintbrush, or other tools for building the objects of your imagination. Construct new additions to the park or simply enjoy the structures already built by kid architects of the past. Climb up forts and into towers and encounter unique art designs.

BERKELEY FARMERS’ MARKETS

Saturday mornings are always buzzing in Berkeley. Wake up bright and early for the Berkeley Farmers’ Market for first dibs on the fresh produce and food available at the market. Wander between tents at this downtown Saturday Market in South Berkeley to support the local California farmers.

At the market you’ll find colorful fruit neatly displayed on the tables, verdant vegetables decorated by water beads waiting to be selected, and delicious baked goods that draw you over to the stand with their freshly baked smell. In addition, prepared meals are available for those who get hungry at the first sight of food and can’t wait to return to their hotel.

Weekday visitors to Berkeley are in luck. Tuesdays have the South Berkeley Farmer’s Market, and Thursdays have the North Berkeley All Organic Farmer’s Market.

LIVE OAK PARK

With facilities designed for the ultimate outdoor recreation experience and an art center exhibiting the best in class, Live Oak Park gives plenty of excuses to spend a few hours here. Visit with the family to customize a day of fun, or you might even run into one of the local community events.

Live Oak Park designates a green space in Downtown Berkeley for recreation and leisure. Get active with everything from tennis courts to a kids’ play area. Grassy fields dominate the park’s 5.5 acres, giving ample room to run or nap. Inside, you’ll find the Berkeley Arts Center with public exhibitions showcasing contemporary art.

TELEGRAPH AVENUE

Lace up your walking shoes and get ready for a stroll down one of Berkeley’s memory lanes. Each block of Telegraph Avenue holds many tales and a trendy vibe for shop owners looking to establish a new legacy on the block. For the daring, make the 4.5-mile walk between UC Berkeley and Downtown Oakland. However, the stretch from Dwight Way to Channing Way will give you a good preview.

Buildings alternate between modern shops and historical sights, such as protests from the Free Speech Movement. Dine at a local restaurant or browse the boutique shops set up in the Telegraph District.

MILKBOMB ICE CREAM

Today is officially your cheat day because who can deny the sugary goodness at Milkbomb Ice Cream ? No two ice cream treats are made alike, so see what unique flavors you craft inside this famous ice cream parlor.

Start your order with the signature Milkbomb Sandwich. Choose eclectic, organic ice cream flavors, like honey teddy Grahams, cereal favorites like Lucky Charms, and machacado, which will get sandwiched between two warm donut halves. Then, dazzle your exotic ice cream sandwich with chocolate syrup, sprinkles, and more! Your taste buds will be in ice cream heaven.

THE AFTEL ARCHIVE OF CURIOUS SCENTS

This one is sweet. That one is musky. This one is earthy. Put your nostrils to the test at the Aftel Archive of Curious Scents . This unique museum is solely dedicated to stimulating your sense of smell. Keep those nasal passageways clear, because you’re about to experience some of the most pleasant scents in the world.

With more than 300 different fragrances exhibited in the museum, everyone is sure to find a favorite smell. Explore the making of top scents by seeing the very flowers, fruits, and other raw ingredients that make them. Finger through archival perfume books and even compare if aging your perfume really does have a desirable effect.

HABITOT CHILDREN’S MUSEUM

Playful screams fill the rooms of Habitot Children’s Museum as kids excitedly bounce from one exhibition to another. It’s one museum where kids are encouraged to touch everything, with its hands-on exhibits designed for the little ones. Give the kids time to explore their creativity on your trip to Berkeley.

Educational fun is the best way to keep kids engaged with learning. Workshops show how to make the perfect finger painting, and you’ll also find table puzzles to keep your child’s mind occupied.

Kids can also explore different occupations. Strap on your yellow helmet and sit in the firetruck or keep a sharp eye on the screen in the space mission control center.

The possibilities are endless at this science discovery center.

GOURMET GHETTO

What Hell’s Kitchen is to New York City, Gourmet Ghetto is to Berkeley’s trendiest food hunters. From unique fusion flavors to all-time favorites, the restaurants in the Gourmet Ghetto district will give you a delightful taste of Berkeley.

Find parking along Shattuck Avenue and stroll past the lovely scents from diverse restaurants. The famous Chez Panisse is an ode to California farmers with its farm-to-table meals. Agrodolce serves Sicilian specialties with a menu imported from Palermo, and Tigerlily delivers a mouthful of flavors with fusion Indian dishes.

This North Berkeley Business District is one place you’ll be more than happy to visit!

INDIAN ROCK PARK

Although Indian Rock Park only measures slightly over one acre, its views and landscape make it a place that tourists will want to add to their Berkeley trip itinerary.

Indian Rock Park was gifted during the Northbrae Area Development and is open to the public for all to enjoy. Set on a hilltop, this city park provides a scenic overlook and space for outdoor recreation.

Rock climbing is one of my favorite pastimes when visiting Indian Rock Park. Scale the rock walls or keep your feet firmly on the ground by exploring the trails. In the evening, grab a spot for a stunning sunset over San Francisco Bay.

Berkeley is often painted in broad strokes—university town, liberal hotbed, ex-hippie bastion, stronghold of seasonal cooking, etc. But try to pin Berkeley down to a particular label and you’ll miss out on its rich, quirky diversity of identities. Visit Berkeley with an open mind and a willingness to explore, and you’ll find a welcoming Bay Area city that’s full of former visitors who liked it so much they decided to stay. Here are nine great things to do in Berkeley.

Head to Campus

berkeley travel reviews

The University of California at Berkeley has an outsized presence in the city—its population of 42,000 students is a third as large as Berkeley’s entire population. Its dorms, museums, and satellite campuses are scattered around the city, but the heart of the university is the Cal campus, designed by the same landscape architect who imagined Central Park into being—and it’s worth a visit, even if you’re not a scholar.

Explore on your own, using VisitBerkeley’s Cal Secret Spots guide as inspiration.  Take a campus tour , ride the elevator to the top of the Campanile (pronounced camp-a-neely) for great views, or catch an evening performance or noon concert .

Take a Path Walk

berkeley travel reviews

The Berkeley Hills are a magnificent tangle of arts and crafts homes and narrow winding streets that follow the natural terrain. In the hills you’ll find rock parks—parks studded with massive rock outcroppings tucked into residential neighborhoods—and hundreds of pedestrian pathways that offer off-road shortcuts through the hills. Originally designed to give early 20th-century residents easier walking access to existing rail lines down the hill, the paths remain a hidden treasure of Berkeley. Explore independently using the Berkeley Path Wanderers’ Association Path Map or join a walking tour to discover the history and stories of the paths.

Watch a Play or Show

berkeley travel reviews

What Berkeley lacks in raucous nightlife, it more than makes up for in evening cultural activities. The Downtown Arts District encompasses theater, music, and arts favorites, all within a few blocks of Downtown Berkeley BART (the Bay Area’s rapid transit rail system). Catch a play at Berkeley Rep or Aurora Theatre Company . Enjoy a night of music at Freight and Salvage , the California Jazz Conservatory , the UC Theatre , or The Back Room . Or take in a visual arts show or a film at BAMPFA , the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive.

Stay nearby: Hotel Shattuck Plaza

Explore Tilden

berkeley travel reviews

Crowning the hills of Berkeley, just a few minutes’ drive from downtown, sits the 2,000-acre wilderness of Tilden Park. Part of a string of parks that preserve the wild ridges of Berkeley, Oakland, and beyond, Tilden offers a mix of hiking paths, bike trails, and open spaces. An abundance of family-friendly delights tops off the offerings—check out the miniature steam train that winds through the forest, Lake Anza with its sand beach and swimming area, the Little Farm collection of kid-friendly farm animals, or the antique carousel. Kids and adults alike appreciate the picnic areas throughout the park and the Botanic Garden, a 10-acre wonderland of native California plants.

Stay nearby: The Claremont Club & Spa, a Fairmont Hotel

berkeley travel reviews

Berkeley is serious about food. As the birthplace of Peet’s and Chez Panisse , Berkeley prides itself on creating a rich mini-universe of food that celebrates both local bounty and global influences. As you’re considering your options, don’t dismiss Berkeley’s cheap eats—spots like Cheese Board Pizza , Picante , and Vik’s Chaat Corner , offer great food at good value.

The UC Berkeley campus has been coming into its own as a culinary destination in recent years. Try Rice and Bones (helmed by Slanted Door chef Charles Phan); Brown’s , which features foods from within 250 miles of campus; and pop-ups featuring everything from Syrian to soul food.

Shop on Fourth Street

berkeley travel reviews

Berkeley doesn’t have a mall; it has a Fourth Street. This four-block-long stretch of West Berkeley mingles independent boutiques with an increasing number of upscale chains for a sort of modern-Berkeley culture clash. Here you’ll find sustainable vegan clothes, whimsical stationery, handmade leather shoes, and artisanal homewares at locally owned shops sandwiched between standard favorites like Apple, Lululemon, and even Amazon.  In the mix are cafes and restaurants, including longtime Berkeley favorite Bette’s Oceanview Diner , home of the impressively lofty soufflé pancake.

Stay nearby : Holiday Inn Express Berkeley

Stroll Telegraph

berkeley travel reviews

Jutting off the south end of the UC Berkeley campus sits Telegraph Avenue, which rose to fame in the 1960s as a symbol of the counterculture and has remained distinctly different ever since. Walk the blocks of Telegraph between campus and Parker Street to the south, and you’ll find street vendors, shops, cafes, restaurants, and even a cannabis dispensary (this is post-legalization California, after all). Students, locals, panhandlers, and street performers mix along the sidewalks, creating the Telegraph vibe that’s characterized the destination for decades. Pro tip: Some of the cross streets hold treasures as well—including 1951 Coffee Company , a non-profit café that trains refugees to work as baristas, and a used bookstore run by the Friends of the Berkeley Public Library .

Stay nearby: Berkeley City Club or Bancroft Hotel

Play at the Marina

berkeley travel reviews

Ringed by the San Francisco Bay, the Berkeley Marina excels in whimsy. Home of a major annual kite festival , it’s a popular spot year-round for serious enthusiasts to pilot their kites, which range from small traditional kites to massive sky dragons and octopuses. The Marina is also home to the beloved and unique Adventure Playground , a build-your-own Adventureland where kids construct the playground even as they play in it.

Stay nearby: DoubleTree by Hilton Berkeley Marina

Neighborhood Hop

berkeley travel reviews

Berkeley has a downtown, but visitors in the know get beyond the Shattuck-and-University downtown core to explore Berkeley’s many smaller neighborhood commercial districts. North Berkeley’s Gourmet Ghetto is home to Chez Panisse, the original Peet’s Coffee, the Cheeseboard Collective, and other food favorites, plus a collection of shops and the weekly Thursday farmers’ market. Elmwood mingles shops, restaurants, and a small cinema along a bustling two-ish block stretch of College Avenue. The up-and-coming Lorin District has antique stores, quirky boutiques, and small bakeries and restaurants near Ashby BART, and the long Solano Avenue has the feel of a revitalized classic Main Street. And in recent years, mini-neighborhoods built on creativity and cheaper rents have revitalized the West Berkeley thoroughfare San Pablo. Check out San Pablo near University for food, or farther south near Dwight for shopping and cafes.

Berkey Water Filter Review: Is The Berkey Worth The Hype (And Cost)?

berkeley travel reviews

Our team is dedicated to finding and telling you more about the web’s best products. If you purchase through our links, we may receive a commission. Our editorial team is independent and only endorses products we believe in.

I’ve never owned a water filter – not even a Brita. While I’m not picky or particular about the taste of my water, after reading a few too many articles about the (poor) quality of California tap water, I realized that a high-quality filter would definitely be worth the investment. But where to begin? And how much of an investment should I be willing to make?

The answer was already in my mind’s eye, so to speak, via the iconic image of the Berkey . I’ve seen the stainless steel contraption on friends’ countertops and probably would have purchased it for the aesthetic appeal alone, were it not cost-prohibitive. It is expensive, but I’m also very serious about my personal health and well-being. So, if a filter really is going to transform the purity of the water I’m drinking, I can justify a high price tag.

And…after several months spent with the Berkey on my kitchen counter, I can confidently say it’s well worth the investment (and the hype).

What’s So Magical About The Berkey?

The Berkey is categorized as a gravity-fed water filter, which means that gravity is used to draw source water from the upper chamber through a fine-pored filter down to where it is collected and dispensed from a lower chamber. While the Berkey website gets into granular specifics on how the filter works and the exact contaminants it removes from your water, all I needed to know was that this filter is strong enough to purify untreated water from nature itself – so yes, you can bring a Berkey on your camping trip. That’s a powerful purifier.

berkeley travel reviews

I decided on the Travel Berkey , which costs $345 for the full system. I live alone, and the 1.5-gallon capacity is more than enough for the amount of water I consume (and can even filter up to 2.75 gallons of water per hour, if you’re hydrating for a large group). It’s important to clarify here that The Berkey is a water purifier, not just a filter – it makes sense that it would cost more than a Brita. And it lives up to that clarification: the Berkey removes over 200 contaminants, bacteria, and viruses, as well as 100% of harmful pathogens (you can check out independent lab test results on the filters for yourself). Even better, it won’t remove any beneficial minerals – like Calcium, Sodium, Magnesium, and Potassium – found in water that help your body to function properly. Considering my hyper-awareness of environmental contaminants after these last few years spent coexisting with a virus, these specs were encouraging, to say the least.

berkeley travel reviews

The self set-up process (which I’ll explain more about in a moment) is rigorous in the most reassuring sense. My Travel Berkey came with vials of red dye as a testing mechanism, designed to verify that the filters are correctly assembled to remove the dye. It’s one thing to know that your water is pure and clean from any environmental contaminants. And it’s another thing entirely to be able to taste the difference – which, comparing this nectar to Los Angeles tap water, I definitely do.

I Assembled My Berkey And All I Got Was Pure Drinking Water

Setting up my Berkey was, at first, an intimidating task (emphasis on “at first”). The filter arrives complete with two stackable stainless steel chambers, a lid, a rubber ring base, a spout, two filters, and a map of instructions to ensure your water is actually being properly purified. As someone who typically enlists the help of friends to assemble very basic furniture objects, this filter would only impress me if I could assemble it myself with relative ease.

berkeley travel reviews

Because these filters have amassed many loyal lifetime fans, there were plenty of videos across the internet that walked me through each step of assembly (and epic sequels that could account for any maintenance I might need to take care of down the road). The assembly process was definitely simple in retrospect – and didn’t take long – but the written instructions for priming the filters did not make sense to my brain. I found this YouTube video incredibly helpful, and it made the set-up ten times easier. The final confirmation I had done everything right? The red dye test, which visibly proves that your system is fit to filter and purify.

The Test Of Time: Clean Water, For Life

berkeley travel reviews

I’ve been using my Travel Berkey now for three months, and I can’t imagine life without it. Especially if you’re someone who often buys bottled water instead of drinking tap, or if you find yourself dehydrated (like me) because you’re not eager to drink whatever might be coming out of your sink, it’s worth both the hype and the investment. I also love that it doesn’t involve any power or waste, and seeing that beautiful metal chamber on my countertop encourages me to drink water, especially while working from home.

5 More Reasons To Love Berkey

1. The Berkey has over 18,000 5-star reviews , free express shipping, and a lifetime warranty. Enough said…

2. Each filter has a lifespan that can handle 3,000 gallons . Translation? You’ll only need to replace the filters every 6 years (or less often, depending on how many people are regularly using your Berkey).

3. Minimize waste and save money on the daily: with a Berkey filter, you’ll never need to reach for a plastic water bottle again .

4. A pure aesthetic: The Berkey filter is minimalist and sleek, and looks beautiful on any kitchen countertop. It’ll clean your water and elevate your home decor.

5. Because the Berkey filter doesn’t require electricity, it’s great for both emergencies and travel – so you’ll always have access to clean water you can trust.

Invest in your health: check out the Berkey for yourself.

As a recently divorced lady in her 50’s I had no idea where to look for love and companionship again? Until I found Berkeley International and from the 1st phone call I realized I had found help. Their 1 on 1 approach with their tailored made goals of my needs/wants/expectations was exceptional, I felt heard safe and confident that I would find that missing piece…. and I DID ! a lot quicker than I thought too!, so their process certainly works. I could of not of attempted to navigate the ‘single’ world alone, how lucky am I to have found such a professional and caring company as Berkeley International and I have found love/companionship and security. Thank you!

I joined Berkley International after divorce

I joined Berkley International after a divorce. I am professional and highly academic person who wished to join a dating agency that delivered a bespoke service with introductions to like minded individuals. I had been in a marraige for 20 years and obviously had not dated for that period . I paid £12000 for my annual subscription. I can only describe it as daylight robbery and fraud, and this company needs to be reported for their conduct and misleading approach. Quite simply .... they take advantage of vulnerable women. None of the men I met had paid fees, all were quite frankly plucked off other dating apps and some didnt even possess a house or car!!! When I questioned the agents they belittled you, criticised and questioned your ability to interact as a functioning being. If you wish to maintain your dignity, sanity and well being and avoid paying someone vast amounts of money to swipe for you.... STAY AWAY FROM THESE STUCK UP SHARKS!!!!

Date of experience : August 12, 2022

Matched and Happy!

I honestly can’t fault this team or service at Berkeley. From start to finish the ladies were warm, welcoming and supportive. I was quite nervous and they made me feel completely at ease. After five months, of meeting a number of lovely gentleman, I found a great match with the man I'm still currently dating. Of course it's early days but so far so good! We’re really happy and thoroughly enjoying spending time together. Overall, we're super impressed with the whole process. You can't ask for much more when you finally meet exactly the kind of person you've been looking for.

Suspicious / Fake reviews

Dear Berkley international, I wish to bring to your attention the following suspicious reviews on your Google My Business profile. • Roxanne J. Chambell, • Benjamin G. Blast • Corinne Coxhad • Flossie R. McIver • Olivia Jenkis • Genoveva Reyes • Sara W. Garret • Juan R. Guynn • Queenie B. Chapman I have noticed and taken print screens, of the following reviews. If you click on the people’s reviews you will notice all of people, have also posted reviews for Algys Autos Ltd ( Located in the UK) Slush Puppie Tri-State, Inc. located in Monaca PA (USA) There is also another company I see on some of the reviews Lush Furniture located in Singapore. So just so I understand, the above people not only used Berkley international in the UK but also must have visited or done business with a company called Slush Puppie in America, and travelled to or visited the same store called Lush Furniture in Singapore. Or I hope you would not have used a social media company / seo company to create fake reviews, and that company has created 10 profiles and created a fake review not only for you , but their other clients such as Algys Autos and Slush Puppe, and Lush Furniture in Singappre. Surely Berkley International that Charges 18’000 GBP (according to the ABIA) for membership would not scope that low and not only that reply, to these reviews confirming they are clients. Just to be on the safe side, I will ask trading standards to investigate these reviews to make sure they are indeed genuine as well as the Advertising Standards Body in the UK and The Competition and Markets Authority Feel free to reply to this message.

Berkley international, run by con artist- AVOID

I am a little late reviewing Berkley internartional, mostly because in 2014 it wasn’t popular to review companies. I met a senior associate from Berkley international, who sold me a very expensive service for discrete matchmaking. I was promised an international/professional/discrete match making service. It turned out to be hoax altogether. What I learnt from my first date, it’s mostly the women who are paid members, men are approached at random parties with profiles of successful/independent women, and coaxed into going for a date with them! So much for discrete or having a database. This given this information from the first date Keri set up for me. Second date, I was set up with was a younger man ( no issues) but he was more interested in finding out what I earned and how much my apartment was worth. When I called Keri concerned with this information and asking if any of them men actually paid for the service? Her response was neither friendly, nor respectful or honest. I was quite taken aback - and asked for a refund. As you can imagine with any agency which is based on cheating people - there was none and I was sent an email saying they are taking me off their data base. So all in I paid a crazy amount of money to meet two guys, neither of whom had paid to be on the service and then never heard back as I requested information on how many paid male members were on their database. Pretty sure the team at Berkley international will come back with one of two response- “fake review” or we don’t have a member by this name. I have read all the reviews on here and this is a standardised response on their behalf if you need proof, I still have the emails intact. Ladies please do yourself a favour and run miles away from this deceitful organisation.

Last minute stay for Parents Weekend and this was one of the few hotels left. I gotta say, it was much better than I expected. The room was clean, room/bathroom remodeled, with a microwave, fridge, iron, hairdryer and A/C that blew freezing cold air. Bed and pillows were comfy. Even though it was a "motel-type" place with doors facing the parking lot, it didn't feel unsafe and I didn't hear a lot of noise outside my room. No loiterers. I booked through Expedia and didn't have any problems checking in. I would stay here again.

Photo of Robert C.

they guys were very unprofessional and the second one barley understood English. There first room I was checked into had carpet coming off the baseboard. the second room has no circulation; so it smelled like a musty person showed and the odor was still lingering. There was water dripping from the ac unit above my room hitting the unit in my room making a nose throughout my stay. The front desk calls me at 8AM after barely getting any sleep. Then I came out of my room to put my things in my car to find out my business logos were stolen off my car. when into office to speaker with the manager he came out and greeted me with WHAT? I politely said hi how are you? Just nasty attitude and RUDE

Our first time in Berkeley. We are here for a concert at The Greek theater. The location of the hotel is ideal to the venue. We actually walked because the weather was really nice. The entire area is crap. The hotel from the outside is questionable. However the staff was super nice the actual hotel was not only very clean, it smelled clean! The room was very basic but nice. The shower was super nice and upgraded. Nothing gross or questionable about the room. Side note...BRING YOUR OWN TOWEL. The "big" towels were slightly bigger than a large hand towel. My husband and I aren't big people but the towel size was a little silly. But overall not 5 stars since the area was kind of gross and the parking was limited.

A few minutes after I arrived at my room for the first time, a man came in who had a key to t he room and who claimed to be renting it. I returned to the office to report this, and unfortunately left my day pack in the room. During the few minutes I was at the office, the man stole $200 from my day pack. Berkeley Police subsequently recovered $160. Travelodge management never acknowledged that their security was lax, and never compensated me in any way for my loss. The total cost of my stay at Travelodge was the full amount of the rent plus the $40 that had been stolen from my room and that the Berkeley Police had been unable to recover.

As of 3/17/23, this place has active construction. We arrived on 3/16/23 and noticed a large truck loaded with construction debris. On Friday morning, construction workers were removing the tile on the balcony and it was incredibly loud, it disrupted my work Zoom meeting. The debris from the tile removal was on the entire walkway as we took our bags down to our car. The second story bathroom window was missing the screen, there were scuff marks on the some of the walls and the king size bed was too big to have in that small space.

Photo of Susan V.

Clean rooms and newly renovated this place had everything we need for our one night stay at Berkeley. The manager/owner was super nice and friendly. We had two rooms. For a few dollars more we had the cornet room with additional space. Brand new bathroom was nice and very clean. Only complaint was the cleaning supplies they used have an odd but strong smell. All three of our rooms had the same clean but strong smell. It did not bother anyone but was noticeable. This place was by far less expensive than others in the area and was exactly what we needed. It is walking distance to downtown Berkeley and the University. Good location and kid friendly. Breakfast is included but it's pretty basic. Breads and coffee. We recommend it for what it is. Clean, safe and comfortable for a short stay.

I only gave a 1 star because Yelp wants to to give a star. If they had negative stars I'd hav checked of several negative stars. This place as I type this is trying to charge my credit card $186.00+ for a Presidents Day weekend reservation that I didn't make. They wont refund the charge or reverse the charge. The Wyndham called the hotel and the manager named 'Jing" (sp?) said, "No." Expedia called the hotel and the same manager said, "No.". My bank called Expedia and then called the Travel Lodge and the Travel Lodge manager 'Jig' (sp?) manager said, "No." Expedia gave me a phone number to the hotel and I called 3 times with no answer, I let the phone ring several times, no answer. I never made a reservation, so Expedia ask me to send them a screen capture of my bank statement showing the fraudulent charge, so I sent them a screen capture showing only the charge (not the entire bank statement for obvious security reasons.). This is so wrong on many levels. The hotel management doesn't care that I'm the victim of fraud, I was chaperoning students and i had to worry if I had enough money to take the shuttle to LAX. That moment is stressful just thinking about it. Travel Lodge just wants to charge for a reservation that I didn't make, mind you Expedia tells me that 3 rooms were reserved and one was subsequently cancelled (?!?!?!?), I've never heard of this hotel, next thing I know I see a charge on my card for $186.00?!?!? Where I teach was paying for a field trip to Berkeley, they paid for where we stayed in Berkeley, they paid for our airport transportation, why would I make a second reservation? I explained the whole situation to he Wyndham, Expedia, and they still say the hotel manager "Jing" (sp?) said that he won't reverse the charge nor cancel trying too charge. I had my bank card the minute I saw the fraud and Travel Lodge management is still trying to charge me. My bank immediately cancelled my card when they say the fraud, Wyndham and Expedia is trying to help me out and a place where someone used my info to make a fraudulent reservation is still trying to collect money from me. I'm the victim and the manager of Travel Lodge is treating me like a criminal. This is really sad and pathetic. I'll stick with the Hilton.

So my boyfriend and I recently stayed there on business for 16 days. Only 2 issues I had here: limited parking. Some noise: I was staying on a first floor room and one night the people above us were so loud that I could barely sleep, and for working 12 hr days for 2 weeks straight, I needed my sleep. Another night, a different group was above us and they were having sex so loud it was shaking the bed above us and they themselves were being over the top loud. I'm not old and crabby nor sensitive, I was staying with my boyfriend and of course we have our personal time but we're considerate about it. I had called the front desk both times. I know there will be noise in a hotel but both times were just unacceptably loud. After I called the front desk for the second situation, a guy named Harry was pretty rude about it. Told me to call if it continued, which I then had to call again minutes later. After that, about 20 mins passed and Harry called my room and told me that maybe we should move rooms or that he would force us to be moved into a second floor room because they can't have me calling and making noise complaints because the guests who were just involved got angry and left. He told me that I was making him lose business. This is NOT my problem, and a very unprofessional way to handle a situation. I don't mind some noise, I get the situation but when the noise is unnaturally loud, come one. Then to tell me, a guest who paid for 16 nights that I was making his 1 night guest to get laid, leave. That's the first for me at any hotel. Not to mention when I tried to explain this to Harry, he got even more aggressive and then just hung up on Other than that, the rooms are newly renovated. The owner and employees keep it safe and they manage the property to make sure the guests feel comfortable and that nobody unwanted is on the property, I liked that. The other guy, his name was Ravi I believe, he was a great person and very accommodating. He definitely made our stay worthwhile and he made the place feel safe too. Harry needs to find a new job or the owner needs to discuss his behavior with him. I would stay at this location again for sure.
